That said, the most recent update has sucked the like out of this game for me. The roulette spins and slapdash “campaign” were already issues, but so could deal with that, bc I knew the grind would eventually get me where I was going. With the most recent update and nerfed payout, the cold reality for me, a somewhat casual player in my old(er) age, is that I’ll never see the nicest cars, unless I’m willing to drop $100+ of my hard-earned money (in addition to the cost of the game!). I simply will not do this. Poly’s craven efforts at limiting in-game currency so they can push microtransactions are pitiful. They deserve anything they get. Once they fix in-game payouts to be reasonable and address some of the other irritations with campaign and roulettes, it will be a game I’ll recommend to friends. Until then, itMs going to cost Poly more in lost sales than it would for me to buy the McLaren. It’s sad, but I guess that’s the state of AAA gaming these days… Expand

Always online and excessive micro-transaction is unacceptable. I will never purchase a GT game ever. The terrible and horrid thing about always online means, Sony can just flip a switch and you no longer have a game. This is unacceptable and horrid on Sony's part. Making GT7 a live service games was one of the worst decision Sony has ever made. Do not buy this trash of a game.

PolyPHONY digital wants you to always be online, so you can't use a cheat to give yourself more credits (like you can in GT5 and GT6). Instead they want you to grind endlessly or better yet pay with real money.
The game looks and sounds amazing, but i won't be buying it, untill the online requirement is patched out.

Update - it turns out they have gimped the in-game prizes to push the user to buy credits from the Playstation store - which cost real life money. The usual term for this is micro-transactions - but there is nothing "Micro" abou them

How to fix GT7:
    1. Make it not online-only. DRM f*cking sucks. I paid $70 for a physical copy of a game that I can’t play when your servers are offline. 2. Either get rid of the micro transactions, or fix the economy in the game. 3. Add the ability to put bots into online races. Racing against a buddy with ONLY your buddy REALLY sucks.

How can Sony sell a full priced game and then expect people to pay for upgrades using MTXs. Sony wants to double dip for a game that could have stood on its own and sold millions. This is the type of short term gain that EA and Activision played which routed their long-term trust with gamers. Sony why are you going on the same path, I though you were better than this.

After uninteresting releases in the franchise, GT7 promised to return to its roots, but unfortunately Polyphony's greed didn't allow it. The game has two major STRUCTURAL problems, that is, it is unlikely (not to say impossible) that they will be fully resolved.

1 - The game can only be played online, even if you do NOT want to play online. Some people can even do basic races if they are not connected to the game server, but I (and several other players) have been blocked from accessing the game while their servers have been offline for more than 24 hours recently, that is, I paid for something but just didn't could play.

2 - Broken reward system. The grind of the game is extremely difficult as the prices of the cars are VERY high, this would normally be fine if the rewards of the races were proportional, but this is not the case, on the contrary, the reward in credits (the in-game currency) was already far less than ideal, and recently released an update REDUCING these rewards. The reason for this is clear: making it more difficult to buy cars and in-game mods by forcing "non-hardcore" players to buy in-game currency with real money (yes, a fullprice game with EXPENSIVE microtransactions). The game director's justification is a legitimate joke with the players... "To give more realism (...) I don't want players to keep repeating the same race over and over again". Well, it seems that the solution found did not resolve your points raised.

In short: do not buy now, it is possible that they will improve this situation a little in the future, and until then the price of the game should fall. It's sad to see a legendary franchise being disrespected by the creator himself. Greed is really something that increasingly haunts the gaming market.

Because they want to collect stats on my play and sell to me like a casino.

And the money must be big in microtransactions (think over a billion for NBA2k) because polyphony digital was willing to damage their reputation to purposely nerf tracks to make it harder to make money in game, to buy digital cars that for some reason get released in limited quantities in the game, attempting to get you to act on FOMO. Think about that: You are getting played on both sides here.

Then you have the roulette which is a prize you receive after doing something, and it's nearly always the minimum prize allotment. Again, this is all carefully constructed to make you as a player want to stick around and SPEND MORE MONEY. If this game was free to play I wouldn't be writing this review, I'd be playing it. Instead I paid $90 for a launch limited edition version because I believed in this game, I really thought polyphony digital wasn't going to nerf and gimp it. It seems I was wrong. This is very sad.

I hope they catch so much heat for it that they stop ripping us off but let's be honest: Money talks. They are making their decision. I promise to never invest a penny in any microtransaction on the Sony platform.

But now I changed my stance. Since 16 hours (and rising) the GT7-servers are in extended maintenance mode.

But now I changed my stance. Since 16 hours (and rising) the GT7-servers are in extended maintenance mode. And million of players can't do anything in this game because of this. No single player activities like even licenses are playable. Nothing!

To add insult to injury they simultaneously added some changes to the game: mainly scaling back the credits you can win by racing! Why you may ask? Of course to push their **** microtransactions! I paid 100€ and now they try to lure me in to buy credits to buy those higher end cars? Wow, really disappointing.

But even beside those two issues, there are many baffling issues. The short "campaign" via the ingame Café, which even locks many menues behind its progression (can't play Splitscreen without making much progress in this "campaign"). No arcade mode, lacking races at the moment and so on.

The AI as it stands is a complete shambles and drives as if you do not exist (happily turning into you spinning you out or causing a crash). The payouts from races are absolutely appalling and have just been made worse so earning credits is a woefully slow painful grindy and unpleasant experience (oh and its also CAPPED at 20million). But dont worry they have made sure to get the MICROTRANSATIONs in place and you can buy as many of those as you want without that pesky cap of 20million for earned credits. They have utterly ruined the hype I had for the game and the franchise. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!

    TL:DR
Made painful to play to push microtransactions
Game is charged at top tier premium price with a F2P MTX model
Most cars are locked behind some form of obstacle
    AI is a shambles
Very few races with very low payout
If it was £20 it might be worth it
GT Sport is currently the better game by a long shot

Previously the game economy was still relatively broken with it taking immense time to ‘grind’ or ‘farm’ credits by completing the same 3 minute race (fisherman’s ranch) for a meagre payout for hours on end to afford a car/upgrades of your choice. PD have now nerfed the payout for this meaning that it is even more unrealistic to get enough credits to purchase the most desired/coveted cars. Very disappointed to see another game developer extort their loving fans through micro transactions. This is typical of current times. Expand

UPDATE: After 32 hours back online.
I still find it unacceptable for a €70 game to require be online all the time, even in single player. On top of that, the car prices are ridiculous. There is one special car, selling for 16.300.000 CR, if bought with microtransaction-credits, that is over €160 !!! And you don't on that forever. Once they shut down servers, all your bought cars and progress will be lost. A total rip-off !!!

Almost unplayable for a day now. Even offline career needs an Internet connection to the servers constantly. You can not play your career when the servers are down. Ridiculous !!!
All the cars are expensive. You get the possibility to buy special cars for a limited time only. It is almost impossible (the more after the 1.07 update, which lowered rewards) to get the amount needed within the time-frame, especially when the servers are down. CR 2,300,000 for a special Porsche, that's almost $/€ 23 if you get it by buying credits !!!

I understand that they may need to cater for those new to the franchise but I find this so restrictive and linear compared to the original caRPG formula that I grew up and adored. Leave me to it. Let me progress myself, purchase used cars fix them up grind for more credits and beat the next race series. If I want to go into the history of the cars provide me with the museum in Brand Central like in GT Sport. 2. The micro transactions are disappointing but isn’t the end of the world. What I hate is the “car roulette”. This is insulting. It is not rewarding and leaves accessing particular tuning options to chance. I bought GT because I enjoy the grind caRPG mechanic, why oh why, did they introduce this outrageous fruit machine to the franchise?
    3. Why are there no grid starts or qualifying? I feel like every race I do I’m chasing down the pack as part of an overtake challenge rather than intense racing at each corner. 4. Used cars are the same for everyone (depending on your GT Cafe progress) and it’s frustrating that it doesn’t update every day. You can’t bring something different/unique to the multiplayer lobbies like you could in GT5. 5. The always online requirement ruins this game 100%. Whenever there is server maintenance you can’t play the SINGLE PLAYER game. You’re stuck with boring mini games such as Music Rally which I hate so much. I want to play the £70 single player game when I want not have to rely on the online servers to be available to authorise me to play my game. And now we have a worst case scenario in play with these systems where the servers have been done for an extended period of time, the game has become unplayable. Why? Single player should not be affected by any online services at all and it raises a big question: what happens when in 5 years time the GT7 servers go EOL? Will that disable all copies of GT7 around the world? I still play my copies of GT2 and GT4 today. I expect to be able to play my copy of GT7 again in 15 years time.

Wait for Polyphony to remove DRM against Single player before considering this game.

    I hated GT sport.

the online only multilayer had no appeal to me, so after I bought it, played it 3 times I realised the single player content was virtually zero so boycotted it and decided to wait for a single player GT7.

I now own a PS5 and was very excited to see GT7 was being released, so I pre ordered at a cost of around £65.

I even splashed out on a GR29 and rig... excitement levels were very high, the reviews gave it top marks, graphics looked amazing....

Got my disc version of the game and attempted an install, I was met with a crazy 98Gb download and a 38hr wait... so after 1 hour I looked on forums and found out if you try and do a disc install whilst online it decides to download it instead... so after I stopped the install, deleted the progress and disconnected internet i managed a 2 hour install from disc...

I then loaded the game and instantly realised it was online only with only limited music races being accessible offline... oh dear...

So onto playing it, being an adult with a job and children the time I have to play is limited to a couple of hours here and there, but it all started out like a normal GT game... bloody fantastic gameplay, physics and graphics... playing with a wheel takes some getting used to, but really fun... in menu music is really bad and you cannot select your playlist like GT6, probably due to monetising of the music...

I started going through the licenses.... noticed i was struggling with any dirt track ones... the demo video showing totally different handling to in game physics... turned out patch 1.06 had messed with the car setup and changed the tyres... i thought that was very odd and had me wondering about how accurate leaderboards are if they can just change settings on a whim...

So come 17th March and I knew patch 1.07 was coming and would fix the dirt tyre problem... so on I went for a night of GT... nope, online only servers down for 30 hrs because of online only rubbish!!

Then I find out they've reduced in game credits for races, then I unlock the legendary garage and every car is cr1,000,000... wtf even base cars are massively over priced... then I notice you can buy in game credits with real money...

I was gutted... it’s meant to be escapism from real life, buy a sorted game and everyone has a fair go at earning credits, progressing and getting cars... so people that grafted for hours in the 1st week get more reward than me for doing the same races… totally unfair.

I can’t afford nice cars in real life, why would I want to play a game that I can’t afford nice cars either?

We have been conned by Sony... they released a great game, waited for decent reviews then screw us all for microtransactions by changing the game... it’s a con… this isn’t candycrush, so now it appears we have paid ~£70 for a pay to play online only single player game... I feel like a mug... I want them to refund my game or reward everyone with ALOT of in game credits.

I hate microtransactions and online games…

I think I'll stop playing and use my rig with wreckfest instead...

Reasonably disappointed ... but life goes on... this is just a review to warn others and let Sony know people can ruin their profits with bad reviews when they try and screw us over...

Don't buy it unless they fix it.

The entire game seems a bit outdated. Driving mechanics could be better, career mode is linear and it’s downright frustrating to start every race positioned dead last and have to race through 10+ racers and come in first place. Rewards for winning were bad enough to begin with but have gotten worse with the new update that make progression a major grind. You’re either going to have to work you a$$ off or prepare to pay in the form of micro transactions or else most cars will be unattainable. This game had a lot of potential and I’m sure several gamers like myself had a lot of hope from this game but it’s disappointed. Clearly the design brief was "Get the player addicted, then periodically make the gameplay so annoying they will pay money to skip it." In other words, it's just a very expensive mobile-style money grab, constantly pushing the player into micro-transaction hell. Avoid at all costs.

If this review were based solely on gameplay, I would give them a 9. That is how severely they ruined everything else. This game is a shameless cash grab that is just as greedy as the worst phone game, except this cost $70. An absolute embarrassment for a company to best this manipulative towards its customers.

There are high points to the game, but the microtransaction system added to a full-price game that is seemingly EVERYWHERE means I don't want my kids even touching it. That constant dialog with the roulette table gambling aspects is unnecessary and takes the fun away for me. It's a shame since the graphics and games modes are otherwise reasonably solid. Expand

Absolutely ruined the game and lowered payouts to force buying microtransactions. Disgusting practices.

Such a great game series turned into a generic MTX f2p game with very predatory wheel spins and FOMO tactics. Sad to see it go down such a route.

Loved the franchise, but 2 days without service, and my USD80 worth nothing. This is online, no way to play it offline. Besides that the last update increases the price (or time) to get credits in-game, to buy the cars. You can even spend USD40 on a car, which is too much. I can't refund the game (physical), but somehow is a waste of money, or a money pit. Good for Kaz, got my money forLoved the franchise, but 2 days without service, and my USD80 worth nothing. "To 'rest on your laurels' means that you get lazy or complacent about what you could achieve because you're too busy basking in the memories of former glories." GT7 case in point. I didn't need to spend $70 on a game just to find out I can't afford a car I wanted, I already knew that, I have kids.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
