A cool innovation was that you could sometimes play with Atreus and these were so much fun. They had Freya, Brok or Sindri as an accompaniment and that fitted perfectly with the story. Kratos and Freya had an unbelievable character development that made me even cry sometimes. Many plot twists, which surprised me very much with an ending that could not have been better. I could talk about this game for years and how perfect it is but I think we all know how good this game is. Expand

I will compare with the past game (God of War 2018).
The gameplay hasn't changed much but it's still very good and it does have some changes, amazing soundtrack, story I don't have much to say... I don't give a 10 because there is no "perfect" but certainly the Nordic God of War series borders on perfection.
Anyway, I don't think it's worth paying 70/80$, I paid 40$ and it was more than worth it.

Definitely my game of the year! Very good exploration, which can provide up to 60-70 hours of fun. And the story never gets boring, on the contrary, more interesting with each discovery. Amazing new characters that don't even need a lot of screen time to make us like them. Ragnarok is amazing.

    I have mixed feelings
At First the game was addictive and attracting, I had the same feelings when I started playing witcher 3, but after 12-14 hours the passion dropped...
Character development + Story are great but the combat unfortunately is not... Keratosis is heavy and slow but atreus is combat is much better and quicker.
Game is fun but could've been better!

What can I even say about this game that's not been said?
God of war Ragnarok, like the pervious title, is a master-piece that no other game has touched to this day.
A master of story, character craft and growth, and the combat just wants you to keep playing it over and over again.
Just play it, for god sakes, play this master-piece.

One of the standout features of God of War Ragnarok. Building upon the successful foundation of its predecessor, the combat in Ragnarok is more fluid, diverse, and challenging. The variety of moves, combos, and abilities available to Kratos are expanded, allowingOne of the standout features of God of War Ragnarok. Building upon the successful foundation of its predecessor, the combat in Ragnarok is more fluid, diverse, and challenging. Kratos' Leviathan Axe and Atreus' bow have been further fine-tuned, making each strike and shot feel satisfyingly impactful. The variety of moves, combos, and abilities available to Kratos are expanded, allowing players to develop their own combat style.

Additionally, the introduction of new weapons and abilities, acquired throughout the journey, adds depth to the combat system. From powerful elemental gauntlets to devastating runic attacks, players have a broader arsenal at their disposal. This variety encourages experimentation and caters to different playstyles, making battles engaging and rewarding.

God of War Ragnarok also introduces thrilling boss encounters, each uniquely designed and challenging in their own right. These epic battles test the player's skills and strategic thinking, requiring more than just brute force to overcome. The satisfaction of triumphing over formidable foes is unparalleled, and these moments are among the game's highlights.

On the other hand, the narrative in God of War Ragnarok feels overcrowded and lacks the focused storytelling that made the 2018 installment so captivating. While the first game followed a simple yet powerful father-son journey, Ragnarok attempts to weave a complex tale involving various Norse gods, realms, and conflicts. As a result, the plot feels rushed, and some storylines are underdeveloped.

The emotional depth and character development, which were the heart of the 2018 game, take a backseat in Ragnarok. The relationship between Kratos and Atreus feels somewhat neglected, as the narrative jumps from one event to another, leaving little room for meaningful interactions between the two. This lack of emotional connection diminishes the impact of pivotal moments, making them feel less significant than they should.

Furthermore, the inclusion of multiple story arcs and side quests introduces an abundance of characters and lore, often overwhelming the player. While it's exciting to explore the vastness of Norse mythology, it comes at the cost of a tightly-knit narrative. The side quests, while adding to the game's longevity, can feel distracting and dilute the main story's focus.

God of War (2018) was celebrated for its character-driven narrative and emotional resonance, but Ragnarok struggles to maintain the same level of depth and intimacy. The pacing suffers as a result, leaving players with little time to process events and connect with the characters on a deeper level.

Another aspect that takes away from the narrative experience is the open-world nature of Ragnarok. While the idea of exploring the realms and discovering hidden secrets is enticing, it can feel like a departure from the linear, cinematic experience of the previous game. The world of Ragnarok is vast, and the sheer amount of content can sometimes be overwhelming, taking away from the more focused storytelling that made its predecessor memorable.

In conclusion, God of War Ragnarok successfully refines the combat mechanics that made its predecessor a triumph. The fluidity, diversity, and challenge of the combat system elevate the gameplay to new heights, making battles exhilarating and satisfying. However, the narrative of Ragnarok feels rushed and overloaded, with too much going on compared to the simplicity and emotional depth of God of War (2018).

The ambitious attempt to incorporate multiple story arcs and side quests in an open-world setting sacrifices the focused storytelling and character-driven experience that defined the 2018 game. While God of War Ragnarok remains an enjoyable and visually stunning experience, it falls short of capturing the same emotional resonance that its predecessor achieved with a more straightforward, powerful narrative. Nevertheless, fans of the franchise and those interested in Norse mythology will still find much to appreciate in this epic adventure.

Along with the preexisting characters the new ones are a treat. I love there is actually a long running joke in the God of War series that is actually in this game. You will know when you see it. The only legitimate complains that were in 2018’s God of War was the boss variety and enemy variety. Well I can tell you now that is 100% fixed and goes above and beyond. The first hour is a sight to behold and SSM outdoes themselves again. The chemistry between Kratos and Atreus gets even better here as the long journey of father and son continue as their inner turmoil and the interaction with father and son is truly interesting to see. The ending is truly special and a tear jerker. Everything falls into place and is a great send off for the series if they would like to finish it. I applaud Sony Santa Monica to be able to live up to their previous game expectations let alone pass it in every single way. Bravo! Expand

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]
