Overall, I had a blast and will definitely continue playing this one post-review. I haven’t beaten all the chapters yet and I’ve heard the Old One Cthulhu itself makes an appearance. If you were or still are a fan of boomer shooter games such as Doom, I encourage you to give this one a try! I would also recommend this game to those that enjoy the oddities of the Lovecraftian genre as the attention to details will fully immerse you within a Lovecraftian world. A big bravo to Byte Barrel and I’ll be sure to keep my eyes open for what they do next.

Fans of old-school first-person shooters will have a ridiculous amount of fun with Forgive Me Father 2 and it's a great fit for Halloween.

Look, the story sucks, the use of Unreal Engine 5 isn't really that well optimised and the progression system feels like an arguable step back from what we saw in the first game. However, taking all of that in consideration all the same, Forgive Me Father 2 still provides a frequently impressive looking and appropriately blood pumping shooter that allows players to live out their Lovecraftian carnage fantasies.

I do think Forgive Me Father 2 nails the atmospheric presentation. I don't care much for the Priest's gruff narration but the visuals are impressively stylised. The music helps reinforce it and the gunplay is solid. The campaign has a steady pace that rarely lets up and multiple endings and difficulty settings allow for plenty of return visits. I do wish movement was sharper but the arsenal shows a good variety of weapons.

These insufficiencies get even more frustrating since they’d likely address the staleness that creeps into Forgive Me Father 2’s latter stages, as well as its difficulty that occasionally borders on being unfair. Boomer shooters don’t always have to be power fantasies, but Forgive Me Father 2 illustrates how one suffers when it submits too much of its power over to the Elder Gods.
