    This game hooked me story wise just from the short time I had with the demo. Upon playing the main game it is my driving factor. Such a fantastic story so far.. I have not beaten it yet, but I doubt that will change. The combat is not super complex but once you learn it better you can pull off some very cool flashy moves. As an aging, working gaming I am also glad this doesn't have open would bloat.     One of the best Final Fantasies ever made. Charismatic characters, amazing soundtrack, wonderful graphics and visuals, and lots and lots of action, I loved it!

    A serious contender for the best game of the year, the only one likely to have a chance of dethroning the equally wonderful Tears of The Kingdom. It will certainly take as the best RPG of the year and best soundtrack, simply a    One of the best Final Fantasies ever made. Charismatic characters, amazing soundtrack, wonderful graphics and visuals, and lots and lots of action, I loved it!

    Completing the game leaves a bittersweet aftertaste and the desire for more.

    The most purists may yearn for more turn-based combat, or complain about the game being more westernized in terms of history or combat, but even so, it remains an excellent gaming and Final Fantasy experience.

    The game's weakest points are some secondary missions that break the excitement of some moments and the good rhythm in the game; and some small graphical inconsistencies that sometimes happen, but definitely, it's one of my favorite games of the year and ever.    … Expand

    Best ff game in the last 20 years. Likable characters, combat is very fun. Could do without the pointless filler side missions, but they are optional. The summon battles are really epic.

    I'm playing this game since ps1, except ff 11, I played all of them, it's not a 10 compare to final fantasy, also it has some issue with frame rate and it's noticeable, also most of sub quests are not worthy to try, but ff 16 has the best story telling of the history. Another think gameplay isn't like any final fantasy, but it's awesome.

    That’s an amazing game I love the characters and the design of everything I was new into that kind of battle system and I think than everything turned out to be really challenging.

    A masterpiece , a game full next step for games rpg . It is awesome that shows that the same people who said of other action rpg from another japonese company is not said here ! Innovaton there is a 100 ! Here is a mistake , for the other poor graphics it is ok , here why so much ? Wheres the roots ? To resume , ff16 is AWESOME and no less than a 100 !     Excellent game. I never finish single-player games, but this one made me keep wanting to play and find out what happens next. Awesome story, combat, mechanics, music, and everything else.

    The only issue I currently have with the game is the frame rate in certain areas, which hopefully they will patch eventually.

    Believe the hype, I was skeptical at first tried the demo, best demo of all time, bought the full game instantly after that experience and you’ll say the same if you tried it.. , I went blindly into Final Fantasy 16 knowing nothing about it except for the trailers of the game.     10/10 best final fantasy I have ever played since 7 and 10. Does stuff better than ffxv and ff7 remake. Combat 10/10 story 10/10 sidequest 10/10. Everything you love from ff is here. The evolution of the franchise is now in ff16. The rpg elements are present and useful. The skill tree is massive with new abilities and moves. Also the eikon battles are sick and the QTE don’t get in the way10/10 best final fantasy I have ever played since 7 and 10. Does stuff better than ffxv and ff7 remake.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This had been a beautiful experience as a final fantasy fan. I have played every single final fantasy and kingdom hearts game on their original console to even re buying the games for my mobile phone. This game has implemented all the games they have done in the past 9-10 installments. From how it traverses the game to its combat. The story has been a breath of fresh air as it starts in a darker fantasy world similar to ffxiv shadowbringer and endwalker. The travel of this game reminds me of the classic final fantasy 10 where you are in segments but it still has an open travel for the full world. This give the game a less bloated feel like most other open world games where it has something to do just to have something to do at every five pixels. I was one of the few that enjoyed 15 but I’m glad that I’m not the only one that enjoys 16 I have loved playing this game and all that it has to offer as a gaming experience. I’m also really happy that they announced it’s an actual finished game upon release. With no patch 1.01 that I got for issues that usually occur during other game releases. I hope that 16 will have installments similar to 7,10, and 13. I’m excited to see what else they can cook up with this story.… Expand

    Lo que mas me encanto de este juego fue su historia, me sorprendio mucho, sinceramente no esperaba algo tan crudo y épico, comence jugando final fantasy desde la 6 entrega y para ser honesto en cuanto historia el 16 es muy superior a cualquier final fantasy. El lore es lo mejor, te hace querer saber más y más de los personajes, te atrapa porque te atrapa, sobre todo si te gusta todo loLo que mas me encanto de este juego fue su historia, me sorprendio mucho, sinceramente no esperaba algo tan crudo y épico, comence jugando final fantasy desde la 6 entrega y para ser honesto en cuanto historia el 16 es muy superior a cualquier final fantasy.     El gameplay es ágil, aunque en modo rendimiento si note caidas de frames sobre todo cuando hay muchos enemigos en pantalla, no soy de esa gente que se vuelve loca por eso, pero si es notorio el desempeño, me gusto mucho el sistema de combos, no son dificiles, incluso sin los anillos de auto, me ubiese gustado que el modo difícil estuviera desde el inicio, porque sinceramente es el final fantasy mas sensillo de jugar ( llevo cerca de 25 horas) no se cuanto dure el juego y no he tenido un desafio en el cual me acabe mis pociones).

    Por último debo decir que Square va por buen camino, aunque extrañe los combates por turnos, (aunque sea los pudieron poner opcionales y que fueran al estilo Persona pero con la escencia de final fantasy ) este nuevo modelo de combate me parece bueno, no tan genial como DMC pero es cumplidor, y Clive es un personaje de los que vas a Amar un gran héroe, en resumen yo si recomiendo el juego es de lo mejor del año para jugar.

    Nota: No he notado calentamiento excesivo en mi ps5, no se si sea porque en mi cuarto hay minisplit, pero no he notado un sobrecalentamiento, terminare el juego y actualizare si mi consola se sobrecalienta.    … Expand

    I really was hesitant about playing this game at first. I’m glad I was wrong. I really am more about the old style of FF but honestly this game surprised me and I fell in love with it.
    It has a great main character named Clive who really is looking for his purpose in the world while reconciling with his past. Kinda like a cross of DMV/GOW/FF style which at first I didn’t like but once I played it it was so fluid and had great mechanics. Cut scenes are a chefs kiss to quality while the graphics push the PS5 to the limit. Eikon battles are amazing!!!! Characters are very memorable. Can’t wait for more like this but still would like to see the old style of FF gameplay once in a awhile. If they mix it up like that it would be great! Once again I’m glad I was wrong about this game, and I can keep saying more good of it.

    Game runs fine and fits perfectly into the franchise. Entitled gamers & old ff fossils complaining about no turn based combat need to go touch grass and learn that things change. About halfway thru the story and can say with full confidence it's right up there with the all-time great final fantasys. Thank you yoshi-p and team!

    I really love this game! I was skeptical at first because some of the negative reviews but wow this is my game of the year. The story is captivating, the music is phenomenal, the characters are amazing, the Eikon fights are jaw dropping and the gameplay is so fun. The only gripe I may have is some of the quests are kinda weird and motion blur is a bit annoying, but other than that theI really love this game!     These console wars are getting SO annoying, even on this web site. My main platform is PC, there is no such thing as console wars to me. I'm a gamer, I just enjoy games and that's how it should be regardless of the platform. If a game is good I'm playing it regardless of the platform, right? So please, don't be ridiculous and review THE GAME, Final anche XVI, not the console that you "hate". Any review with a 0 score is almost always a FAKE review, doesn't matter which platform or game.     Amazing game, the gameplay is a complete departure from older entries but it is for the better ! An amazing action rpg with stunning visuals amazing cinematics and the story is great. Really refreshing take on the Final Fantasy formula if yiu like fantasy and action games you can buy this game blindfolded

    Just completed the game after 37h playing and this is the game I was expecting after FFX.
    The story is a masterpiece, the characters are awesome, the world looks beautiful, the new combat fits perfect for this generation, the whole game is incredible.
    This XVI has become my favourite game of the series.

    This game is amazing I’m about halfway into it and it never fails to surprise, everything is good, people here who are complaining about the loot or the fact it’s not Turn-based at all are senile old grannies, FINAL FANTASY HASNT BEEN TURN BASED SINCE 2001. This game is great even if you dislike it it still has a ton of effort put in and it shows.     Man! for waiting about 2 years, everyday i think about this game, i go youtube watch the trailer many time,every trailer got me excited, after release i even take my annual leave to stay at home enjoy this amazing game!, i will replay again, i really enjoy the story and the gameplay!

    Simply put, the game is very good. If you're pining for the old ATB system you're out of luck but the combat in XVI is very complex, after playing the demo I replayed DMC 4 to get an idea of what kind of standard I should have for XVI's combat complexity to meet and I can easily say that standard was met. You have analogues for things like Stinger, Snatch, DT, and more including a skillSimply put, the game is very good. If you're pining for the old ATB system you're out of luck but the combat in XVI is very complex, after playing the demo I replayed DMC 4 to get an idea of what kind of standard I should have for XVI's combat complexity to meet and I can easily say that standard was met. You have analogues for things like Stinger, Snatch, DT, and more including a skill that is literally just an animation cancel for combo extension. The actual enemy encounters are good, and especially the boss fights, a number of which did end with Clive having almost no health and no remaining consumable items in my playthrough. The story also has a nice level of quality to it, feeling right at home alongside FF4/5/6 as a lower-tech worldwide journey with a heavy focus on the summons like Ifrit, Shiva and Ramuh with an anomalous godlike entity pulling the strings as the villain. The only things I was disappointed with were how minimally interactive most sidequests are and that there was no elemental resistance system, so no reason to use a given Eikon's projectile or abilities over the others. If you only like FF for the turn based RPG style gameplay then you might want to skip this entry but in every other way this is a mainline Final Fantasy, and a good one at that.… Expand

    Que aventura fantástica!!! Fazia tempo que não sabia o que era ficar agarrado em um game. Gameplay muito gostosa , personagens cativantes e música , SENHOOOOOR, que trilha é essa !!!!! Um jogo obrigatório para quem gosta de jogos e para quem curte RPG.
    Os pontos fracos ficam mesmo pela questão das sidequests ( mas que é bom fazer pois dão um certo complemento para a história principal ,    Que aventura fantástica!!! Some are very interesting and cover the lore bits that are not told in the main story but answer a lot of burning questions I had in the back of my mind. Combat can be either button mashing or very complex as you wish it to be. The game doesn't really force you to 'git gud' in the first playthough difficulty though which is quite unfortunate. Only certain optional challenges make you to rethink the way you play and even that they are still not punishing enough. Maybe this will improve in the new game+ difficulty which is actually why the game isn't a 10 for me yet. Locking harder difficulties behind one playthough is always a no for me. The game can still improve too on the optimization front. I have some framerate drop in small corridors which makes zero sense but it's there I suppose because the smokes from these stupid braziers. Framerate mode still needs patching and motion blur needs to go. (I am aware that they are planning to add an option to turn off motion blur but it is not here right now as I'm writing.)

    Anyway, 9.4/10. would buy any story DLC.    … Expand

    This game is such a step backward for the series: there's no exploration, there's no airship, there's close to no rpg mechanics, NO MANA, ...

    Say what you want about FF15, yes it was unfinished and rushed but it took risks and had a great vision about the future of the series, FF16 is is an average action game masquerade as a Final Fantasy.

    Overall for me, it's not the attempt to mature the franchise setting that makes or breaks the game (after all it should be expected that each FF numbered game will take place in a unique setting), but the lack of depth to the combat outside of basic enjoyment of spamming attacks and creating hac and slash combos that's the disappointment.

    Soundtrack is 10/10 and massively assists the setting and amplifies the drama, but then again shouldn't really expect anything less from a FF OST.

    I understand the onslaught of review bombs, as there are a ridiculous amount of 10s also being given, sometimes thoughtlessly caught up in hype, and giving a more reasonable score like a 6 to 9, doesn't do much to alter it, but from what I've played so far, it's a lop-sided 8, with elements of the game that are 10/10 frustrated by other elements that are more in line with a 6 or 5/10.     Performance (7/10): I’m going to leave this one short... The game runs well but during Eikon battles and combining certain abilities together can make the game stutter and hitch. Some people did have PS5 overheating issues as well.

    By the end of the game I was rushing to get it finished. I was complaining to my wife that I couldn't believe I spent 50 hours on this game and that it should have been between 20-30. When I checked my settings I was shocked to see I only spent 31 hours with this game. I've never had a game feel like it dragged on so much - even games double the size.    … Expand

    Everything about this game hits the mark of what I personally was hoping from the game. The music, set pieces and graphics are all standout and some of the best any video game has to offer.

    The performance may need some work however is very fine with me.

    Final Fantasy XVI is nothing short of perfect. As a long time fan of the FF series I am so happy to play such a beautiful game with yet again another great storyline.

    The battle experience I gained from this game is unparalleled and cannot be replicated elsewhere. Additionally, the subquests greatly supported the background of the world. The world was not only the "dialog" in the msg, it is alive now.

    Personally, I strongly recommend the arcade mode. It is quite difficult, just like the soulslike game.

    Let's face it the motion blur is WAY too much and make me feel unwell. So quality mode feels unplayable.
    Performance mode is way uglier and has a lot of drop of frame rate that you notice and feel.
    For me this is makes it's not GOTY material unless they fix it..

    1. No full button customization only 3 presets. 2. You only control one character wich is very unusual for a final fantasy game but in my opinion is done pretty well. 3. Way too easy. 4. Very little strategic elements wich is a departure from the usual way a final fantasy game plays, but in this case I actually like this. Quick tip:
    The best control scheme is type c. It puts magic on L1 instead of triangle wich makes combos and air combos easier. It also makes triangle the eikon cycle wich is more natural to me.    … Expand

    This game has only pros, highlights for story and graphics, the game play has changed a bit for action RPG than turn based RPG but I need to say that they did a great job. This game had the potential to be the game of the year! Congrats for Square Enix.

    Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     This is a solid RPG/action game. Some elements of the game are unusual and fresh for single-player parts of the Final Fantasy series, but some are too dull and rudimentary.

    New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
