Fairy Tail 2

Fairy Tail 2 is a good game. The JRPG meets expectations by being fun, charismatic, and delivering a product that fans will enjoy. On the other hand, don’t expect the title to blow your mind with excitement. It has technical issues and fails to engage an audience unfamiliar with Hiro Mashima's work.

Fairy Tail 2 may be a flawed experience in that its storytelling is marred by horrid pacing and missed opportunities. Still, the character events and gameplay are worthwhile and addictive for longtime fans; it’s a decently evolved sequel that made me more invested in this familiar cast than before, making me hope for a 100-Years Quest follow-up where more care is put into the narrative.

With only two major games in the franchise starting at the end of the Fairy Tail story, Fairy Tail 2 seems like an odd choice. While it's perfect for franchise fans, people looking to jump in for the first time will lose out on many stories and content. The game features an intense combat system, even though it's a tad on the easy side and has plenty of worlds to explore. Overall, it's just a shame that almost all of Fairy Tail 2 feels rushed and budgeted compared to developer Gusts' more recent titles.

We are convinced that fans of the license will love it despite all its flaws, but it is highly unlikely that the title will be able to win the sympathies of those who still do not have a strong attachment to Natsu and company.

Fairy Tail 2 arrives at the finale of our favorite wizards' adventure with highlights and shortcomings alike. I recommend it to dedicated fans of the manga and anime, but this simply isn’t a welcoming entry for potential new fans.

The successor to Fairy Tail mainly continues the line of the original with fun gameplay and cool boss fights. The interactions between the characters are also very entertaining, but on the other hand, it does not really excel anywhere. The game has technical sloppiness, lacks variety in environments and not all enemies are equally engaging. If you are a fan of Fairy Tail, the game is worth playing, although it could have been better in many ways.

The characters feel elaborate without shining, the graphics are appealing without adding anything new, and the music and setting lull you into classic Japanese role-playing that sticks to the framework to the letter. However, there is nothing special that grabs your interest, but most of it feels well done without reaching further emotionally. If you're a fan of the series already, I can definitely see that you'll be more entertained than someone who's never met these characters before, but if, like me, you don't feel any connection to the world that makes up this colourful anime saga, you should probably wait for a greatly reduced price before you take on Fairy Tail 2.

It's a title that players' enjoyment of will vary depending on their appreciation of the Fairy Tail manga and anime, with its snappy combat and eye-catching visuals the definitive silver lining of what's otherwise a fairly shallow experience.

A second chapter completely bland, victim of a loop that leads to tedium after a handful of hours without even the fanservice being able to fuel it.

We’ve had a lot of great JRPGs this year, but this isn’t one of them. Unless you’re a fan of Fairy Tail, there are very few reasons why you’d want to play this game. The battles are generic, the game expects you to know the plot and it often seems like the game just wants you to be done with it and move on.
