Who found this game good? I got 2K23 for 20 bucks and played 2K22 paying full price and it's miles better. An awful attempt at a golf simulator that relies far too heavily on thumbpads and punishes you if your movements aren't perfect. I refunded mine and so did everyone else I know who bought this. We were all excited about it but it's a buggy mess. Also... No Crossplay options? In 2023? Pass on this one.

+ Augusta National and St. Andrews

    Cons:
    - Career mode very buggy, visit EA's Answers (support) page and you'll see multiple complaints about career mode freezing, deleting itself, not properly completing a round, and more. These issues are happening on all platforms - Xbox, PS, and PC. I, myself, am experiencing this issue right now where it crashed at the end of the Amateur Championship and just keeps crashing any time I try to load into the next round.

    - Challenges and quests are also very buggy, frequently not registering completions.
    - 30 FPS with no performance mode.
    - Persistent online connection REQUIRED. Lose internet? EA Servers go down? No game for you.
    - Plastic player models with a VERY limited character creator.
    - Sluggish UI when trying to set up shots, choppy and sluggish swing mechanic.
    - An obscene amount of menus, all of which are very slow and cumbersome to navigate.
    - RPG elements wall off basic golf functions behind XP/Skill Point grinding.
    - In-Game customization store clearly built around selling microtransactions.
    - Putting is horrendous, especially the way the green grids and putt reads are laid out.
    - Sound bugs where the crowd or background noise just completely cut out and stay silent.

It really feels like EA spent all of their budget on their course creation team. There's no doubt all their fancy LIDAR course scanning and other technical achievements paid dividends on the course realism, but the rest of the game could have used some of that budgeting. After 8 years from the last EA golf outing, I truly expected better. Until it gets some patches to address the serious game breaking bugs and, hopefully, a patch that allows for 60fps play, save your money and stick with PGA2K. That game has its own bucket of issues but at least it's more consistent (and regularly cheaper).

While EA deserve all the hate they get hurled at them, that does not mean they can't make a good game. This is a good game that feels like an updated version of the old EA Tiger Woods games.

Great game. Don’t understand the hate. Love this game.. difficultly level progression perfect. Loads of content that to me does not appear to me trying to take my money which in fairness is a trend in most EA Games. Competitive and tournament mode very fun. More realistic than 2k. Love the the shot Types.

There are a few glitchy moments with balls hitting spectators and acting a bit strange, but in the main it plays fairly similarly to 2K23.

On presentation, EA comes out on top, it just feels a lot more televisual. 2K isn't bad, this is just better. Commentary is solid, can't choose between the two, though this is played a bit straighter. The licensed golfers look good too and overall the course visuals are a clear notch above 2K's. Game modes, lots to do here, sponsor challenges and quests, lots of courses and of course Augusta, which looks amazing and is worth the price of admission for a lot of people. Looks like there's better options here for upgrading gear, though the character creator is actually not as good as 2K which is disappointing, because 2K's wasn't amazing.

The RPG progression system seems a bit easier than I found 2K23. Just tidier menus and again presentation feels slightly better.

Ultimately you probably need to spend some serious hours with this to fully judge, but feels like a solid 8 and having a good time so far. Two good golf games, and a toss up between whether you like the upgraded licences and graphics here or the customisation and community course creations of 2K.

What I can say is as soon as I started this up, watching the Masters course come to view brought chills down my spine. IT’S GORGEOUS and the presentation rivals the old EA Tiger Woods games, and it’s a pleasure.

Everyone complaining about this game, is either 1) not really a golf fan and / or 2) doesn’t want to take time to learn how to play golf (albeit digital).

This game starts off with you playing as defending Masters Champ Scotty Scheffler in a casual round at Augusta National. It gives pop up tips as you play the round to help you learn the basics of how to play, swing, choose clubs, and how the physics work. Everyone complaining they can’t hit greens doesn’t understand golf, and how to play shots. It’s simple. Practice, like real life, and earn the respect of this game!

If you don’t want to bother with learning how to actually enjoy golf, and the beauty this game brings to New Gen which we’ve been waiting for, for YEARS, I have nothing to say.

2k Sports game is meh. I had it, and I’m selling it. It doesn’t even compare to this. This is the most inspired and excited for the season of Golf I’ve been with a game since the last Tiger Woods PGA tour game featuring Augusta on 360 back in 2013 I believe.

Enjoy, and take the time to learn how to play and this will be enjoyable for months to come. Also - everyone complaining about glitches… its 2023. They’ll fix them with updates. Relax. It just released.

The Masters is in a delay.

Pick this up, pop it in, start it up, and cruise through a round of your own enjoying every camera angle, flyover, and breathtaking shot you can muster at Augusta National before they resume real play ;).

This game looks horrible on the PS5. You can tell this game is 30 fps. It looks really laggy. The ball physics are terrible. My ball went right through a bunch of weeds uphill and didn't even stop. The swing mechanics are awful too. Total waste of money. PGA Tour 2K23 is a million times better than this garbage game. This game is unplayable. The greens feel like pavement. The green grids are misleading. Poor distance control on normal shots. Character animations are funny looking. Above everything else, the ball physics are terrible. The sound doesn't make any sense. Golf balls descending sound like a jet engine.

This game clearly needed at least another year in development.

Everytime EA does something right, they still manage to do something wrong. This game runs at 30 FPS. Are you freaking kidding me? When I pay $70, I expect a performance mode. It's pathetic how these greedy developers are too lazy to add such a basic option at launch.

While the multiplayer is fine, it is much inferior to 2K PGA Tour. It lacks content. There is no course creator. To make matters worse, these lazy developers can't add something as simple as 2v2. 2K didn't have crossplay at launch, so I assume that's coming in a patch soon for this game? Either way, I expect more improvements in the online experience through patches. You better not disappoint me EA. I recommend this game until it's $30-$40.

I've been playing 2k23 for a little while now, while I enjoy it, Road to the Masters is a huge improvement. There seem to be people upset about the greens, but fail to realize that they have made the greens as accurate as possible to the difficulty of the real courses. Other people need to actually do the tutorials and challenges (which there are a plethora of by the way) because they allow you to actually learn the greens, your swing, shaping your shot, your short game and so on. The swing stick is the only mechanic here, but it is a VAST improvement over the 2k23 swing stick. My shots feel much more accurate and consistent, which is relieving because having to resort to the 3 click in 2k23 was a disappointing experience. It is also nice to see components like power shot and ball spin are back. As far as content goes, Road to the Masters does not disappoint. There are plenty of things to do in both the offline and online modes. You can jump right into a casual match and relax, or bring out that competitive side and play ranked, get into a tournament, complete challenges, etc. Hundreds of challenges await you by the way. Completing these challenges will earn you game currency, gear, and experience points. While the gear you start off with leaves a lot to be desired, it's nice to know that there is plenty to unlock, or you can go to the in-game store of course. Throughout your time with the game you'll unlock items for your bag, apparel, skills, and equipment. As far as added customization goes, you'll see you can even customize your ball and club trail to have various effects like lightning or plasma. I do have to add that the character customization was a little disappointing as you can only choose from pre-made faces that you cannot edit yourself. You can change hair, hair color, and eye color. Now, let's get down to visuals. These courses are downright beautiful. They did a tremendous job here with the Frostbite engine, creating stunning landscapes that look great up close and afar. I can recall playing a course with a storm looming in the distance, and I couldn't help but feel how perfectly they made all the elements work together to make you feel like it was real. Overall, this is a solid golf sim with a little bit of arcade mixed in. The greens can be difficult, but the seemingly endless challenges are always there to help your game. While it's not perfect with the lack of a detailed character creator, and hardly any audio coach to help you along in challenges, this game is a must have for any pro golf fan. Expand

EA is back with a golf game and they don't hit a hole in one right away, but they do come off well. The game mainly stands out for its beautiful courses and smooth gameplay, which can provide hours of fun via the extensive career. The presentation of the sport, on the other hand, is a bit thin and visually the animations are a bit disappointing. Otherwise, the game has many small improvements to make. Nevertheless, it is a decent golf game that will entertain fans of the sport.
