There is something refreshing about a game that doesn't overstay its welcome. I played through the story, thoroughly enjoyed myself and decided I wanted more and went for the platinum trophy. This is how it should be done. The game doesn't overstay its welcome and if you are hungry for me you can go out of your way to explore and do a completionist's playthrough.

Absolutely amazing. When I saw the review scores I was hesitant to buy, but after a few minutes I loved it. The art gameplay everything is great. It was good enough to warrant time for the platinum. Dont hesitate, you will love it.

Reviews are really overselling this on the great aesthetics. But beyond that its really quite repetitive, and the challenge is not so much in difficulty as it is in staying carefull while being bored hitting sponges or dealing with waves. Rather than combining zelda and souls, its really just zelda with less healing

One of the worst games i've ever played. Combat feels awful, the puzzles are way too easy (even for kids) and the game is extremely stretched. The style looks really good tho, but honestly please dont waste your money on this and go grab good game instead.

I do not understand what the devs wanted to achieve with this game besides tyring to make some cash. The souls mechanic feels forced and is poorly implemented. Dying is a pain and just makes you lose time. I would like the devs to also explain why they chose to make a top down game. I am pretty much convinced they opted for a top down game because it felt original to them.
Devs...the reason there are no top down games with this kind of mechanics is simple: It sucks big time. Perspective is so bad, hard to tell how far you really are from the enemies.
Also, why did you put gauntlets/battle arenas every 5 minutes? It feels so cheap. It feels like you had no idea what to do. Gauntlets are a pain and they last way too long! Dying means losing another 5-10 minutes of your life. I want the few hours I have spent on this game back! Keep the money but give me back the few hours it took to complete this utter piece of crap!
Someone call the police! These devs should be in jail for creating such a game. You are wasting people's lives. do not play this game, you will only lose precious time. Where is the fun? Fun is dead...that should be the title of the game

This game is a great small zelda-like experience, with good writing and compelling combat system. Bosses are fun, some a bit harder than others, but they are well balanced to beat them up easily on 1st, 2nd, nth attempt, but it's not a Souls Like difficulty, literally more like Zelda. Great little adventure with an interesting world to explore and colorful visuals. The dodge mechanic isnt working great though, and combat although easy to learn, seems like it could be better in terms of attack variety. There are the same attacks over and over. Great game though, highly recommend it.

Bellissimo. Un souls-like con visuale alla diablo molto divertente. The first thing that came to mind when I first played it was that it was HEAVILY inspired by old school "The Legend of Zelda" games: everything from the level design, platforming, exploration, simple yet beautiful art style, decently challenging but fair difficulty, dungeons, and soundtrack that resonate with the pacing and atmosphere. The story starts off as your typical crow doing a typical 9-5 job taking people who are ready to die but then it's slowly revealed there's more going on than meets the eye and never fails to keep you hooked. The level design and platforming are top notch to challenge you with how you'll take on the platforming similar to how Zelda does it and it never gets boring how fast paced the combat feels. The game branches into plenty of different paths encouraging you to explore and take in the beautiful world thanks to the color pallet and art style being easy on the eyes and looking so beautiful as well. The game is challenging but never feels unfair with how the amount of weapons on board and there's even a weapon that sort unlocks the games "hard" difficulty with how weak it is but not to the point where it's unfair or could potentially soft-lock you with how versatile the gameplay is. The soundtrack is shockingly good, not necessarily to the point where I was listening to it where ever I go all the time, but enough to the point where I felt calm, rushed, or panicked thanks to it. Finally, the amount of post-game content here is absurd and really goes to show on how the developers wanted you to see what else the game has in store after the credits and I can't commend them enough for this. Now with all this being said, this game is in no ways perfect and if it implemented these features, then this would no doubt be a game I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. For starters, the fact this game doesn't have a map and considering how much this game asks you to explore, without anything to guide you as to where you could be is absolutely baffling. I do think the combat would be SO MUCH BETTER if you could switch weapons on the fly but you need to go to the main menu and select a weapon and that never fails to break immersion. And lastly, it's pretty irritating how the game gives you a skill tree but if you reach the ending without upgrading it fully, you don't access it anymore and that kinda annoyed me with how a completionist would have to do LOTS of farming just for the sake filling it up. Overall, I'm really glad I got this game for free but I still recommend it at it's current price and if you're looking an old school Zelda alternative, this will no doubt scratch that itch. Expand

Unfortunately, it is what it doesn't do that fails it. A failure to innovate when it comes to combat or encounter design (apart from the bosses which are great), sadly results in this game not making as much of an impression as it deserves, in turn stopping it from reaching its full potential.

However, overall Death's Door is a delight and well worth your time and money.

Combat is very basic. You start with one weapon and (optional) find others on your way. You also gain magic abilities when progressing the game. If I had to describe it I would call it oldschool zelda. Not hard for an adult. Could be a bit challenging but manageable for children.

The backtracking is a big problem if you want to complete more than the main story. Some might think the game wants you to travel and experience the surroundings but as mostly linear as it is, this feels more like unnecessarily stretching it.

It has old school Zelda mixed with Demon Soul's vibes. If you're a fan of either of those games you'll likely have fun with Death's Door. Nothing special, but a fun indie game none the less. Just wish the new weapons you acquire felt like they were an upgrade rather than a different style of combat. The dps likely scaled the same across all weapons. It is free if you have PS Plus Extra.

The somber music is a drag as well and I’ve really had my fill of meta narratives about death, its just not very fun. Linear environment design and a restrictive camera let down the wonderful looking scenes and tight controls. If art is enough for you to want to check a game out, maybe this is worth taking a look at- I will certainly keep an eye on the developer’s future work, but with this im left wondering why im not just playing zelda or dark souls.

Let’s start off with the combat of this game.
    For The Magic System
There is the bow, hookshot, bomb, fire.
the magic system is pretty simple but you have to aim it.
the problem on console there is no guide to show where its going to hit unlike on PC.
This magic system works on a hold to charge to fire system, except for the bow where you can prematurely fire it. so its not an automatic .
The magic cost all 1 tick out of the mp field except bombs require 2.
It’s a simple and effective system in terms of magic combat.
    For The Physical System
There are 5 weapon in the game, where 1 is basically a difficulty weapon (do less damage).
    1 slow, 1 slow + crowd control, 1 regular, 1 fast.
the slow have a 2-hit combo, the regular has 3, and the fast has 4-6, I think. and each weapon has a different type of holding attack (R2 on PS5).
You can set up a good amount of builds but most people will stick with the regular or dps because of how most bosses are designed.
    For The Upgrade System
This game has an regular stat based upgrade system and magic/ability upgrade system.
The regular upgrade system uses soul power to upgrade your abilities, even if you 100 percent and collect every mass of souls you won’t be able to upgrade all abilities, you will be missing three.
you can upgrade your melee damage, base speed/dodge speed/dodge cooldown/, magic damage, make your combo work faster. it starts at (400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500) x 4
in my opinion, base speed and damage is the build I went for.
You can upgrade your magic abilities by facing an optional boss fights.
these upgrades adds optional bonuses like fire can now do extra damage over time, bomb no longer damages you, you can charge your arrow more, hook now can attack while pressing attack while you are using it.
    For Collectible system
There are 24 shinies , 50 seed pods, 16 shrines to increase health/mana by 2 each. There are mass souls that give 100 souls each that are scattered around.
they require magic abilities to get which are required to get some of the hidden ones.
the 24 shinies has some flavor text associated to them.
This game uses an an interesting top-down system in which the camera moves in certain situations.
The hardest part of the game are the annoying enemy waves which were the most difficulty notion of the game. They occurred very frequently it was started to get on my nerves 2-3 hours in.
The first two bosses had a way to stun them then the third boss was super annoying, had no way to stun, super aggressive, can only do a hit and run method. and no other boss had a stun chance which I really liked because it was an interesting design mechanic.
There are annoying parts with this game in regards of gameplay but it built a solid foundation. Its very simple but with how many times you do a wave battle type of system, especially in the avarice chests. The score is deserving of a 1.5
    Story (1.5)
Spoiler alerts of course, so the score is 1.5 and here is the time stamp to skip the story section.
the game has a pretty good start as any others. the game has lore that you can access after each new ability gained via books scattered about in reaper commission hall.
boss keeps talking about the deals with the lord of souls.
you find out about a certain individual near the end of the game.
you find out the main reason of the cause of why no new death/souls are coming about.
if you get the 7 tablets to get the secret ending which tells the grey crows backstory and the history of deaths door and basically showing the crow is done with that land.
I feel this game story is really basic, it doesn’t leave anything to interpretating unless you are talking about the ending. it’s a nice start to the start of the franchise. I would rate it a good 1.5.

    Music (1.5)
The music in this game is pretty good for an indie game. This might be hard to hear, I just don’t remember any memorable tracks from the entire time I played this game. not a single one comes to mind. Nothing stood out to me. even the boss fight tracks. It fit with the idea of bgm but not game music in my personal opinion. It just didn’t inspire me to look for the sound track outside of the game. it deserves a 1.5.
    Performance (2.5)
The performance of this game ran at a solid 60 fps with no dips anywhere.
    Deservers a 2.5
    Price Point (0)
I feel the msrp of 19.99 usd of this game sits very well within this game price range. It just feels right for this game to be priced at that cost. so no points will be taking off.
    Summary
Death’s door is a great attempt of an indie game of this type. The creators of titan souls have improved their style of games and found their strength in making a good game. the gameplay/music/story are very okay/alright in nature where you learn the story in a very open-book type of format. It’s a nice first attempt and im happy what the developers are cooking up next.

It isn't long, but while it lasts it brings solid combat, fun puzzles, and a morose atmosphere that comes with heavy themes of death and letting go. It isn't a serious game, but that weighty central theme is what sets it apart from its peers. Combined with solid combat and quirky characters, the game is just flat out great and worth playing.

However, combat and controls can feel a bit sluggish - player movement isn't nimble but instead very slow, especially the dodge (thisbis comparing it to something like hollow knight). It is missing a map feature, which was a design decision, but seems silly to not have. That said, still worth a play through. My biggest gripe (which isn't really a gripe) is that you play as a raven and have no ability to fly! Expand
