Company of Heroes 3: Console Edition brings the glory of the real-time strategy genre to the consoles in a spectacular way. Featuring two different campaigns and a freshened-up design, it will give you hours of good fun sitting in front of your big screen.

Company of Heroes 3 - Console Edition is a mostly competent port of a very good tactical WWII game, but it still feels like it very much belongs on PC.

One thing is for sure, and that is that the strategy-minded gamer will find many hours of gameplay in Company of Heroes 3, and if you don't have access to a PC to play on, the console version is a fine second choice.

Company of Heroes 3 may not always hit the right notes, but as far as RTS console ports go, it doesn't get much better than this.

Though Company of Heroes 3 might lack some polish and its implementation of a console-friendly control system takes a good while to get used to, Relic Entertainment has nonetheless crafted a layered World War II RTS that combines meaningful tactical choices and consequences with compelling street-level strategy that just begs to be revisited time and again. Armchair generals should rejoice.

Company of Heroes 3 is now available for consoles and it's a good choice for those that like WWII games. It has two narrative modes, and the gameplay focuses on destroying stuff and making your strategy.

Despite notable slips, such as the technical and visual part, bad interface and unnecessary complexity, Company of Heroes 3 has merits for delivering a good RTS on consoles, being fun and for having a good adaptation to controls.

The most unfortunate aspect of Company of Heroes 3 Console Edition is the text size, an issue with no solution. The settings have an option to increase cutscene subtitle size, but the same is not available for the many, many text boxes in-game. It frequently makes for a frustrating experience when playing from a couch, and is a constant reminder that Company of Heroes 3 is first and foremost a game built for PC; it's perfectly playable and more than enjoyable on console, but is still often cumbersome and awkward.

I do think that if developers want to tackle World War 2 as a subject, they need to go one of two paths. They could take a clinical approach and create a wargames simulator that focuses purely on the strategy. Or they could create a serious commentary that deconstructs and analyses the war. What they should not be doing, however, is presenting the war as a purely entertaining experience. As a work of pure entertainment, Company of Heroes 3 would have been better served tracking a fictional war. However, its quality as a piece of entertainment is undeniable, and for most, that’s going to be all that matters. It also works far better on a console than I would have expected something from the RTS genre to ever do. For those that do find World War 2 to be entertaining, this one’s going to be hard to resist.

For anyone familiar with the series (and the RTS genre itself), Company of Heroes 3 is a solid but flawed entry. For newcomers, getting to grips with the controls and trudging through the patchy Italian campaign might not be worth the price of enlistment. However, if you do learn its intricacies, you're rewarded with fantastic, intense combat. It's a great effort to translate the RTS to console even with one or two issues.

Company of Heroes 3 on PS5 is not an ideal way to play this fantastic series. While it manages to keep the gusto of the series alive, fighting with the controls just makes the overall experience a pain.

COH3 plays out not with a bang, nor a whimper, but with an indifferent shrug. There’s very little spark for something with so many explosions. [Issue#29, p.88]

Playing Company of Heroes 3 on PS5 means accepting to play either a poorly optimized PS4 game (resolution mode) or a fat PS4 game at the end of its life (performance mode). Yes, technically, it's a real wreck. It's naughty or simply awful depending on the mode chosen. That being said, the game is still very playable and ultimately well optimized for the controller. We simply regret the lack of precision and responsiveness in the absence of a shortcut. But the work of the developers is there. The interface has been partially revised and it's pretty well done. It's up to you now if you're ready to sacrifice the visual aspect in the name of the altar of the strategy game, a genre underrepresented on home consoles. For the rest, Company of Heroes 3 remains the same game as on PC. An honest, but naughty strategy game.

In this state I don’t recommand to go for it… especially if you intend to play it on controller.

Many essential features are not present on controller right now, especially if you wanna go multiplayer :

    - no queue for orders (without tactical pause)
    - no shorcuts for units or groups
    - some buttons do not work has intended

If you play against someone with mouse and keyboard, he will have all of this…

again a developer that cannot do simple things right. It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to select a single unit and give orders. It is terriblyagain a developer that cannot do simple things right. It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to select a single unit and give orders. It is terribly annoying to then see other units move as well and undo the choices and orders you made before. Especially in the heat of battle it frustrates to see units die since they act upon orders given to other units. This has nothing to do with the controller, other devs have been making proper rts on consoles for well over a decade.
So saving often is important, were it not that saving takes so rediculously long, at least twice as long as loading. Also, the game is unstable, crashes regularly, countdowns for missions do not appear, or the UI disappears entirely. Usually this means you have to restart the ENTIRE mission (as reloading a previous savegame ends up having the same problem).
Then there is the save problem. The game often doesn't allow you to save/delete a game or crashes.
Also, why the hell does it keep pushing Playstation Plus on me every time I go into the main menu? I decide whether I take Playstation Plus on not. Screw this pushing behavior from a dev that cannot even make a decent game. For the sake of never having to deal with such crap again, I can only hope this dev will go bankrupt.
    Avoid this!
