Carmen Sandiego delivers an engaging experience by mixing investigation, strategy, and educational elements, while maintaining the spirit of the franchise. The game stands out for its deduction mechanics, cultural learning integrated into the gameplay, and the variety of minigames that add dynamism. However, the repetitiveness of the missions may demotivate some players in the long run, and the lack of more challenging trophies are minor disappointments. Still, its well-executed proposal and the balance between fun and learning make it a good option for fans of the saga and new players.

Carmen Sandiego from Gameloft contains a wonderful nod to the original series on PC. It brings the same elements of logical reasoning and reading comprehension requirements that the old series wore as a badge of honor. The new game does force these elements into some unnecessary gameplay wrappers but still manages to beautifully weave the original essence of the Carmen Sandiego series within it all.

Carmen Sandiego is a welcome addition to a franchise that continues to educate in all the right ways. For better or worse it doesn’t mix the formula up too much, but any young one should find much to like. Just be sure to stick with a portable platform to enjoy it best.

Carmen Sandiego is at once a tie-in to Netflix’s recent series as well as a throwback to Broderbund’s 1985 classic edutainment title. It doesn’t quite know who its aimed at though, whether it be current kids or their parents. Some minigames are fun, others are turgid. It’s best left to shorter play sessions anyway. We just fear it won’t do quite as well outside of America as the brand doesn’t quite hold the same cache on this side of the Atlantic.

With a modest production that adapts the 2019 series material well, Carmen Sandiego serves its young target audience well, alternating geography- and history-based investigation and simple minigames. For older audiences, however, the educational entertainment essence may have less appeal, as the simplicity in the mechanics and initial enigmas make the really good challenges show up only in the second half of the campaign.

Carmen may have changed a lot over the years, but I still generally enjoyed Carmen Sandiego.

Despite an interesting premise, the game is not all that exciting and quickly becomes very repetitive.
