No small flaw can detract from the invigorating brilliance of Bye Sweet Carole, a game that finds in its obvious inspirations the breath of creativity and identity that the horror genre so desperately needs. With mesmerizing art, sound, and animation, and a script full of subtleties and layers of insight, the point-and-click exploration and puzzle-solving mechanics serve a captivating protagonist well on her personal journey of self-discovery and growth.

Intense, captivating, and visually perfect, Bye Sweet Carole is a little gem that Italy should be proud of. Without sacrificing horror and mature themes, Chris Darril once again hits the mark with a great production that, we're sure, will be echoed by future productions. Make it yours: the price is affordable, it's hilarious, and there's no shortage of moments for reflection. You couldn't ask for more.

Even on PlayStation 5, Bye Sweet Carole performs admirably, with truly exciting artistic, narrative and musical direction.

Bye Sweet Carole delivers on the promise of a narrative-driven horror experience with the visual inspiration for classic Disney cartoons. Though it succeeds in this endeavor, it falls short of keeping you engaged with frustratingly unresponsive controls and easy stalker encounters.

Much like classic Disney, Bye Sweet Carole exudes a nostalgic charm that’s hard not to admire—its visuals, sound, and story all steeped in vintage flair and period commentary. Sadly, much like Disney today, it’s hard to love despite that beauty. With sluggish pacing, thin gameplay, and only half the heart of a point-and-click adventure, you’re better off rewatching an old Disney classic and experiencing the magic where it still lives.

Bye Sweet Carole is a promising adventure that needs some refinement. Platforming and general movement feel slow and clunky, making traversal a chore. Each area features a range of strong puzzles, though some bugs affect your ability to complete certain tasks. Narrative inconsistencies further diminish the enjoyment of what should have been a magical adventure. Despite its stunning presentation, with beautiful hand-drawn visuals, smooth animation, and a lovely orchestral score, it ultimately struggles to deliver an experience as magical as its visuals suggest.

Although it can be an exceptionally frustrating and unintuitive game, Bye Sweet Carole is still gorgeous and its puzzles can be quite satisfying.
