    I'm so disappointed in DICE. They seem to have completely forgotten what made battlefield good. And they have repeatedly not listed to the fan base. The soul has gone. The game is full of gimmicks. The frame rate makes it unplayable even on a high end pc. Even if it did play well, the UI, the level design, the woke stuff - it's an unmitigated embarrassment.

The fact that it is a demo at best is the least of the problems. The main issue is how unbalanced everything is... the hovercrafts are basically impossible to beat. They are crazy fast, more health than some armored vehicles si can climb up walls... oh,Zero value for the money the hype. Full of glitches and terribly unbalanced. A horrible experience as the game is completely unbalanced. The fact that it is a demo at best is the least of the problems. The main issue is how unbalanced everything is... the hovercrafts are basically impossible to beat. They are crazy fast, more health than some armored vehicles si can climb up walls... oh, and have a turret which kills you with minimal effort. The helicopters and planes don't seem to need resupply so they can just spam you with rockets and can trick the guided rockets. But that's ok, because you only have 3 of those rockets and you will need at least two hits to take down one heli. Now you only have 10 left. Not to mention that the PP-29 is the dream. All you need to do is hit the target and they die. The TTK for this weapon is only rivaled by a shotgun. And you get it at level 18 with almost all the attachments you will ever need on it. Munition is almost impossible to find and it is easier to just die and respawn. Anyways it doesn't matter because there is no scoreboard so nobody will see how many times you've died at the end of the game. Only issue with dying is that you'll eventually have to run a marathon to get from on objective to another. The operators don't really feel special at all and their abilities have almost no effect on how the game goes. But I won't go into details here. You cannot chose a map or server and after 3-4 days of playing I've played some maps on repeat and the ones that I actually enjoy barely a few times.… Expand

    BF3 remains the last good BF release. Since its part of the Portal mode, its also the best part of this game, together with Bad Company 2, but the bad hit detection and overall technical state even destroy this experience. And not only is this a buggy mess, also the design choices are really bad. Specialist destroy the classic BF gameplay. DON'T BUY IT.

    Very disappointing. The graphics and maps look awesome; aesthetics very well done. Other than that just not a fun game to play. The gameplay is just not fluid/smooth. The maps are way too large as well - too much running around and not enough action. This game has great potential but it just simply misses the mark, unfortunately.

They won’t be able to fix the game for another 6-12 months and it should be removed from the PlayStation store until then. I recommend everyone to wait for this game to be fixed and buy on sale. I have requested a refund and recommend anyone that has paid for this to get a refund and wait 6-12 months. EA Needs to learn to stop releasing half a game and charging full price.… Expand

    I am a Battlefield Gamer since Battlefield Vietnam. Played 1942 but was too young to really get into it. So I played Vietnam, Battlefield 2, 2142, Bad Company 1 and 2, 3, 4, V and now... This. It is not a Battlefield. It is so bad I don't know where too start. The sound is awfull. The map design atrocious. There are so many things missing that made Battlefield such a unique experience. .

    All-Out-Warfare gives us two game modes, Conquest and Breakthrough. Conquest, the maps are too big, empty, and lack any uniqueness. Whenever a battle is taking place at a capture point, there is nothing about that part of the map that makes the battle unique. Battlefield 3, had more uniqueness and variety in capture points on that map that made each battle at each part of the map more interesting. Breakthrough, vehicles dominate the experience.

    Hazard Zone wants to be a battle-royale, but plays similar to a Vigor. The problem is that there is no real direction on onboarding in the experience. Whenever I am going in, the players I am playing with have no idea what to do or where to go. It's not clear on the objective. It feels half-baked and an afterthought.

    Portal is actually not a bad concept, but it feels like older Battlefield games were shoehorned into this new engine. When I play Portal, I am playing Battlefield 2042 with a three different skins. Again, incomplete.

    As a Product Manager, I would prefer that EA would have delayed the game more to deliver on a more-finished product. I also don't feel as if they did customer research to determine what this user base wanted. Looking at other reviews, following social channels, it seems that the community really wanted the Battlefield V gunplay/engine with a newer more modern setting/guns/vehicles, etc. I mean, simple Product activities like prioritizing features and functionality over core gameplay. Why in the world do we have a Tornado, but don't have more than like six building models and layouts?

    EA, do your due diligence. This is a Product org failure, not the engineers, not designers, not the dev-ops team, not marketing... The Product org. See you guys in about a year when the game is finished.    … Expand

    Controls are shocking - ive been ganing 20years and they are the most inufrating controls I've ever had to use

    No one knows how to revive people, i cant figure it out either

    No campaign either which is such a shame following the campaigns of bfbc1+2 abd bf3+4

    DICE screwed the pooch and let out a game that may function, but is functionally horrible. None of the staples of Battlefield are present, and the game looks more like Battlefront 2 than Battlefield. Say goodbye to the franchise because this is it. The only people positive on the game are fanboys that play pretend on what the game will be. What a joke. Don't trust any positive reviews.

Additionally there is a minimum of structures that can get destroyed. Icebergs don't have a scratch after you shoot with a tank on them, a jet could fly into a skyscraper...nothing. It must've been too much effort to put destructible buildings on the maps. So what they did was put no buildings on the map, just open fields, barely any levels in which between you can fight on. Sometimes you have a single bridge you can go on. The amount of weapons you can play is ridiculous, the specialist's equipment doesn't require any teamplay anymore, players just use hovercrafts to kill any players on open field maps like a vacuum sucking up ants. Recently I wasn't able to play when using Lan. For some reason it always kicked me out before it started and gave me an unknown error. Using WiFi worked until now. I played until level 16. Now I can't play anymore because of an persistent data error message. So basically paid 100€ to play two days in a **** game that I can't keep playing. The error message could as well say: "Hey, our game sucks so much, we're doing you a favor. We still keep your money, Fu** off!"

    This is definitely on one level with Cyberpunk and should be refunded by EA. I hope other players will also raise their voices.    … Expand

    I have been playing battlefield games since bad company 1. I was hoping this game would bring that love a team play from the old one but no a big dissapointment all around. The second way is that the bullets may hit the enemy and cause a hit marker, but no damage will be given to the player. This happens very frequently, more than the former way from my experience. For instance, you may be shooting an enemy and get three hit markers, but the enemy kills you and from their health you can see that only on of the hits counted as damage. The hit registration alone is all the reason anyone needs to realize this game is not worth the money. An argument against this is that it is a bug that will eventually get fixed. However, the hit registration issues in BF4 were never completely resolved, and that is likely the case with BF2042.… Expand

    It's... fun... for a while. They took away a lot of what makes BF great (probably to attract a wider more basic audience) so I don't see this being a game I'll come back to unless MAJOR changes are made. If that's the case I'll rethink my rating. But an overall big disappointment.

    Missing key futures and a lot of missing content at release. They released it a month later and still got it not in a release-state. I can‘t believe that there is no way to switch squads, 4 person squad limitation, no kill/death overview and so on. What were they thinking?     Im Bereich zur Beta hat sich einiges getan, jedoch nicht ausreichend genug.
    Was mich am meisten stört ist TTK und dass die Treffer nicht erfasst werden. Wiederbeleben ist öfters nicht möglich. The destruction sometimes is good sometimes its bad the destruction needs a lot of improvement because the game is super buggy you can hit a building with an airplane you will bounce off instead of crashing no collision sometimes i feel like the bullets are passing true people instead of hitting them because your shooting someone 100 times in the head he is still alive and kills you the game is extremely buggy and it should have been delayed beause it needed more development time the game is a Natural disaster by itself but i feel like the game should have more Natural Disasters as well not only Tornados and sand Storms But add to this game more Natural Disasters like Hurricanes and on the Ice map Avalanches on the Sea map Gigantic Tsunamis and also Earthquakes make a Volcanic island map add Volcanic eruptions the graphics on PS5 are good but there is still more to be desired physics can be good or bad like for example water doesnt have great physics water tessellation physics could use improvement there is not enough movement in water and it still feels like there is a thin top lair on top of it without much movement simulation other graphics lod tessellation anisotropic filtering vegetation fire explosions is good but the snow could have used more work anyway it looks like a game made in 2021 the gunplay could definitley use improvement because it feels like bullets have no collision with the enemy player and even airplanes sometimes have no collision with buildings on the sand map. the performance runs well on PS5 no stutter judder no frame pacing i feel like PS5 and XSX graphics would look even better if they have another mode where Ray Tracing Ambient Occlusion is added which only the PC has and add Ray Traced Reflections on top of that which would benefit the game design and artstyle a lot also a 120fps as a seperate mode for consoles would be great this is a fast paced fps shooter and consoles will benefit from it. i am glad FOV slider was added..     What happened to Battlefield? this feels like Call of Duty full of arcade-like gimmicks, there are hardly any weapons to choose from, silly classes as opposed to just being a normal solider and to top it all off a battlepass. All they had to do was go back to what made Battlefield 4 and the previous instalments great games. Such a disappointment.

    There's ZERO atmosphere. BF5 and BF1 had some desperation in the atmosphere. This one is like playing paintball.

    2 points because I loved the crossplay (yeah I know people complain about it but I found it fair and nice) and because of how fast the game loads.

    Overall, the worst battlefield I've ever played and a below average FPS game in general.

    I'm trying to decide whether I want to go sell the disc or keep it in case they somehow fix it up in 6 months. But I seriously doubt this is salvageable. Maybe they'll improve the graphics. I bet they will fix the HUD. But it's never going to stop being cringeworthy, and it's never getting atmosphere.

    Also, where is the feedback on the triggers? Did they not take advantage of a single PS5 feature other than the SSD for quick loading?    … Expand

    Yeah. I love working as a team, taking out enemy tanks, reviving my teammates, coordinating with squads to outflank and outthink the enemy.

    This wasn't a game about being a twitch shooter. It was a game of tactics, strategies, communication, teamplay, making a plan. It was amazing. So so so so so so amazing.

    And it's over. Just like when counterstrike was new it was the best. like halflife and team fortress 2. Nothing beat battlefield.

    It was a good run DICE. You gave me the best gaming experiences I've ever had, for years and years. Battlefield 4 was the pinnacle. I actually like the cops vs robbers too. That was the best spinoff. Battlefront was pretty good too in it's own ways.

    Nopats (non patriated forces) were supposed to make this game essentially a PMC warzone, with the inclusion of "hero-shooter mechanics" a la Overwatch, but was pigeonholed into factions of US v RU which is the antithesis of the entire game. This design choice was done deliberately to sell battlepasses and cosmetics, and it did not work.

    Lastly, Battlefield 2042 should have launched in a finished state, not early access. And that is a trend that will continue if you support EA and DICE in the future. This franchise is irreparably damaged and should be avoided.    … Expand

The biggest failure is that it has taken away the core gameplay elements that made the Battlefield experience creating an decidedly unfun experience at every level possible. In the past players stuck with BF despite the technical problems that plagued the games and some balance issues because the core gameplay loop and design were always solid. That is not the case in 2042. DICE has been trying to distil what creates the ''Battlefield moments'' and in their mind it was the chaos of those moments when teams make a push for an objective. Instead they've tried to artificially create a constant chaos through injecting 128 players, twice the vehicles and open map designs. To that they tried to shoehorn in Hero shooter mechanics which can only work on small scale games (6vs6 etc) discarding the core class system which was also integral in controlling game balance. The resulting experience is just flat and unfun. On top of that, the game has unbelievably low level of core content like weapons and maps (far lower than any previous game). Even if the season plans went ahead on time, 1 map added per season would bring the main game's Map count to 11 after a whole year. This would be half or less of any previous title. It also suffers from having a lack of any immersive atmosphere and a total disconnect between artwork&backround compared to gameplay and tone deaf add-ons. On the technical aspects, the game is a big downgrade from all previous entries in the quality of visuals and animations. More importantly there is not a single mechanic/area in the game that is not suffering from bugs and the physics engine is dodgy at best. Tanks move like sand buggies almost unable to pivot on the spot and either jumping in the air every time they touch an obstacle (instead of climbing over it like a 60t tracked vehicle) or stick to small objects like super-glue and planes physics feel utterly wrong. Destruction which the franchise has as it's signature feature is heavily toned down and extremely inconsistent and un-impactful. The lack or poor quality of things like scoreboard or UI point to severe cuts in development to make the release date, even though they're being justified as 'design decisions' when they make zero sense. Even core technical things like Controller &mouse input or aim assist don't work well and feel off. Sound quality is very poor as well completely opposite to the almost benchmark quality of previous titles. Pouring salt to the wounds, we have an experienced AAA developer than needs to create a scoreboard in 3 phases with customer input. As if we're talking about a complex new industry leading innovation that they're attempting for the first time ever. This is just another confirmation of the poor state of the Development studio. To conclude, this game is a failed swansong project of a Studio on its way out that no longer has the ability to create the type of games they used to that connected with their customer base. Don't waste your money on it. Support for it will end after a year when they run out of the contractual obligation they have for the 1yr support from the pre-orders. Content and support through that year will remain the bare minimum and will be pulled as soon as its done as the customer numbers cannot sustain the 'live service model' set.… Expand

    The only decent thing about this game is Portal mode, I can’t find Hazard Zone matches, bad mechanics, the main game modes lack players, specialists personalization resets every time I start the game, even though I have been a Battlefield fan and played almost every game in the franchise, I wish I didn’t Pre-order the ultimate edition of this game.

    Maps are boring, specialists mechanic is really dumb. No pats theme is inconsistent as on the maps you are still us vs Russia. Totally incoherent as it's supposed to be a serious game where there is famine and war etc and the characters don't seem to take it seriously and their dialogue is cringe and totally out of place.     I made the mistake of buying the 100 dollar version and I am disappointed on this halfassed game that should've been delayed for at least a few months but ea don't care and just want your money

    My beloved Battlefield series is officially DEAD!

    Where do I start? No single player campaign, multiplayer maps that are way too big and way too boring. The depth and fun of previous Battlefield has been completely wiped out in favor of a quick cash grab. I could not be more disappointed in this game

I held on posting a review because I truly hoped dice would address issue the community has clearly been shouting at them since release, when you look on any of their socials they are refusing to acknowledge that anything could even be wrong with the game. Its sad because right now they are in the key moment of saying their fan base from leaving for goof and they truly do not care. They lied mutiple times, they clearly said in 2020 that the game was a ahead of schedule, the game have top tier destruction. It's such a shame but also confusing how BF5 looks and plays better than 2042.… Expand

    There is a lot of potential in this game, but, upon release, it's astounding how truly bad of a game this is, both from a performance and design perspective. They could have just done B4 mechanics with updated engine and graphics and it would be great.

    Primary issues: - cannot spawn - cannot select loadout - no scoreboard (wut??) - inability to deploy when joining a game -    There is a lot of potential in this game, but, upon release, it's astounding how truly bad of a game this is, both from a performance and design perspective. They could have just done B4 mechanics with updated engine and graphics and it would be great.

    Primary issues:
    - cannot spawn
    - cannot select loadout
    - no scoreboard (wut??)
    - inability to deploy when joining a game
    - specialists degrade the core fabric of the game mechanic
    - weapon and skin customizations don't save
    - stuck in dying/respawn animation
    - connect rate for games is about 50%

    I'm sure it will be solid in 6-12 months, but it is disappointingly poor quality at launch. Pretty weak that game developers would be okay w/ launching something this sub par    … Expand

    2042 is the biggest disappointment for me personally since i play video games. It was advertised as "ahead of schedule". It was broken at launch, 6 months after release there is NO new content. It tries to be a call of duty with hero shooter elements although the battlefield gameplay was completly fine on its own.

    The false advertising and bad managment from EA has reached an unforgivable low.

    Below you'll find a list of pluses and minuses which you should consider before buying this game:

    + the music (probably thr only aspect of the game which actually impressed me)
    + plenty of fun ("only in Battlefield" moments)
    + good looking maps and biomes
    + decent performance on the PS5
    + most maps seem to be well balanced + the new mode (Hazard Zone) can be quite intense
    + Battlefield Portal has potential + loving the "plus" menu (for switching out attachments on the go)
    + vehicles can be quite fun
    + it's futuristic, yet familiar

    - missing squad and competitive features (no scoreboard, no voice chat, no squad rewards for playing together, no demote system for inactive squad leaders)
    - operators, abilities, third-person view and cosmetics (battlefield is slowly becoming a fortnite-warzone knockoff)
    - no TDM/Free-for-all modes outside portal
    - only a few guns in the game (and they are unbalanced: currently an SMG outperforms all ARs at mid range; shotguns are useless)
    - too many abilities and gadgets focused on wall hacking
    - animations look unpolished
    - no single-player campaign
    - the acting is bad, the characters behave like teenagers, not soldiers
    - no immersion, no "large scale battle" atmosphere
    - very basic customization
    - the UI can be quite cluttered at times
    - visual bugs (too many to list here)
    - unbalanced vehicles
    - some maps feel a bit too empty

    poor performance, lack of creativity. game has no identity. battles dont feel special and lack that classic battlefield atmosphere. minimal content, just a blatant money grab by EA

    This game really isn't as good as people make it out to be. It does not please the gamer base in any way. The previous installments were better, and the was no reason for this game to be made at all. I hope that EA can learn from their mistakes in this game.

    While the repetition and lack of content cooled my enthusiasm a bit, I am excited to see where DICE can take Battlefield 2042 from here — if current industry trends hold, I’m confident this will be a strong addition to my already-full shooter rotation after a few months of additions and updates.
