    Terrible terrible game.

    2 games in my entire life did I give up on after 3 hours: this game and death stranding.

    Boring gameplay
    Super repetitive enemies and weapons
    Terrible boring dialogue

    Lame remaster of a boring, plain and simple game. I never played Alan Wake and I was expecting much more from this.

    What I experienced is a repetitive boring gameplay where you go to a house, then a small part of the story is explained, and after that you walk again and face the same enemies until reaching part B, where another small part of the story is explained again.     I'm pretty sure this game was such a success back in the days with its "original style", but now is boring. I can't even recommend it story wise: a boring old lady, "evil" tractors and barrels... For me, this game is a bad joke. Save your money.    … Expand

    One of the worst games I’ve played. The story is good and could be interesting. but the gameplay is boring and repetitive. Old graphics and stupid AI. Bad purchase on my part.

    As usual, a game that's highly rated on metacritic turns out to be trash. These must mostly be paid reviews. Nobody who actually understands what makes a game great would give this a high score.

    The graphics are terrible. It's a remaster, yes, but a 2021 one. Look at what capcom did with RE2, RE3 and RE4. In other words, REMAKE, don't remaster, if your starting game is so poor    As usual, a game that's highly rated on metacritic turns out to be trash. These must mostly be paid reviews. Nobody who actually understands what makes a game great would give this a high score.

    The graphics are terrible. It's a remaster, yes, but a 2021 one. Look at what capcom did with RE2, RE3 and RE4. In other words, REMAKE, don't remaster, if your starting game is so poor graphically. The sounds is decent, in the sense that there's about 2 nice-ish songs in the game.

    But where the game falls down is...well, everything else. There are only three enemy types and they are precisely the same enemy with different perks attached. Every single enemy is defeated by repeating the same monotonous cycle of 'shine light, shoot.' Each chapter is around two hours long and the game would have benefitted from having more obvious rest points, as the gameplay is so tedious.

    The level design is equally poor. Early on, I thought each level would be set in a unique location, but it quickly transpires that you'll spend the next 10 hours running around the same forest, and searching the same copy-and-paste cabins. Searching for collectibles isn't fun as you find yourself just wandering around in glitchy trees in the dark.

    AW's stamina is appalling. Run for two seconds and he's tired. And no, you can't upgrade this. Actually, you can't upgrade anything at all. There is no skill tree, no progression and no XP of any sort.

    Maybe this was good 'back in the day' when crap games were called good because technology was crap and we were happy for anything that wasn't 2D. But today, seen objectively, this is a disaster of a game and is only rated highly by middle-aged men who thinks it makes them feel young again to play something they played a hundred years ago. No, mate. You're old now and your life is whack. Be honest. And be honest about this game. It belongs in the bin. Along with your life.

    By the way, the frame rate drops into negative numbers in EVERY SINGLE CUTSCENE. This is an 11-year-old xbox 360 game, merely remastered (poorly at that) and it won't even run properly on a PS5. The controls and disgusting. This game should be banned. It puts the 'falls' in Bright Falls.    … Expand

    The remastered version was my first experience playing this one. Even with the remaster, I was not impressed with any supposed graphical improvements, the story was OK but the dialogue was not. Everything seemed very forced in that regard and didn't seem natural.
    I got to the second chapter and it took my at least 20 times to get through a part. I had to walk backwards for a good mile,    The remastered version was my first experience playing this one. I had to walk backwards for a good mile, while shining my flash light on an OP giant, meanwhile there are 3+ other enemies running toward me when I have only 6 bullets. Every hit I took almost completely crippled me, thus leading to constant dying. Not fun, at all. I can appreciate a challenge but this was insanely frustrating. Crap @$$ game, glad I rented it as opposed to purchasing this dated and overrated piece of crap.    … Expand

    A lot of reviews of remastering, but since this was my first Alan Wake experience so I'll review the game itself. It's boring. 90% of the time you're running through the forest killing the same 3 types of enemies with the same kind of strategy. Every once in a while the story unfolds but it's a cliche horror story that could be compared to some mediocre adaptation of a mediocre horror bookA lot of reviews of remastering, but since this was my first Alan Wake experience so I'll review the game itself. It's boring. 90% of the time you're running through the forest killing the same 3 types of enemies with the same kind of strategy. Every once in a while the story unfolds but it's a cliche horror story that could be compared to some mediocre adaptation of a mediocre horror book by some Stephen King wannabe. I got interested in this game because of many comparisons to Twin Peaks but it's a total miss - just because the setting is similar to Twin Peaks doesn't mean that it's comparable to Twin Peaks. It lacks the pacing, atmosphere, and mystery of TP by far.

    What sealed the deal for me was all the few of this game's puzzles. Why make a horror game and put puzzles with a difficulty for 5-year-olds? I felt offended, the solutions were so mind-numbingly dumb that it felt like the game treats you as an idiot.

    Absolutely cannot recommend it unless you're a lover of generic horror flicks. But then it's probably better to just watch some movie version on YouTube and not put yourself to hours of boring gameplay.

    One of the most intriguing story ruined by abysmal, slow and clunky gameplay mechanics. The sound and visuals are pretty damn bad too. I don't know if Alan Wake's got lung cancer or something but I'm pretty out of shape and I run faster and longer than him for sure.     Stay far far away from this garbage. I would rather get my teeth extracted again without any meds afterwards than play this god awful game ever again.

    Alan Wake has grown old with all the grace that a similar cult title deserves. It did not lose anything from its personal charm, and although the authors could go a step further in improving animations, it is a great game, which you can find at Sony console for the first time.

    This is the best version of Alan Wake you can play - but it’s also pretty much identical with the original game and the gameplay definitely feels a bit dated.
