    This is basically same, what Resident Evil 4 did with Ultimate HD Edition. No ghosting effect anymore, better textures, better draw distance, improved cutscenes, better foliage. Absolutely the best version of this game from now on.

    A great plot on it, you can shoot serials and films, played for more than 50 hours because I wanted to achieve all the achievements and in the end I succeeded

    This is very solid remaster, better than i expected. If you have never played it, play this version and not original, this one has been improved a lot.

    I was kind of worried, how much will they actually improve, but seems to be decent job. Textures/lighting looks way better. Draw distance is better than ever. All you need is a decent graphics card.

    It has aged SO WELL! Gameplay still feels the same, and although a lot of people might feel like is a bit stiff compared to more modern games, I feel like it suits the atmosphere of the game so well! And it has aged so well, like a fine wine that it's absolutely great the first time you drink it, but coming back to it 10 years later it is so much better! The graphics (Wich were alreadyIt has aged SO WELL!     This is by far one of the best remasters I've played ever, might have some problems with the facial animations, but what can I ask for a remaster that's using a 2010 engine. Apart from that, everything about this remaster is amazing and for the people who haven't played it yet, this is the best moment to do it.

    Very enjoyable remaster, basically everything has been improved, maybe needs few patches for even better performance, but it runs well enough for me.

    It should be called Alan Wake Ultimate Edition, because that's what it literally is. Everything looks so much better than before and it was nice looking game already. Would recommend.

    This game shows how a remaster should be made. One of the best game I have ever played, to which I come back very often. Such unique Stephen King's atmosphere captured. It is almost like reading a book. Thank you Remedy!

    I'm midway through the game on my PS5, yes I would love to have it made on 2020 instead of 2010, and that's the only reason it gets a 9 instead of a 10, like The Last Of Us.     Still a great game, decent remaster, with great characters, a cool albeit complicated story as well as some good dlc at a reasonable price.
    There are only a few minor gripes for me, mainly things like way too many collectibles and the fact that you can run for like 2 seconds and then you have to catch your breath for 5 plus being out of breath also impedes on your ability to dodge    Still a great game, decent remaster, with great characters, a cool albeit complicated story as well as some good dlc at a reasonable price.

    The original was a masterpiece! A proper blend of my favorite Stephen kings horror story atmosphere & the amazing remedy gameplay & storytelling craft. What a blast I had playing Alan Wake on PC. I think this classic deserved a proper remake! but this remaster is good enough for me.

    I'm from Argentina, I could have bought the game on steam or xbox series store for a really cheap price on holidays sale in pesos. But I paid 10 times the price to get the PS4 disc version, so I could get the PS5 digital version upgrade for free (buying it from the PS store is too expensive in Argentina). Thing is, for me, it's worth paying the difference. 4k 60FPS looks & plays astounding, could not detect frame drops on the PS5, and the adaptive triggers and the haptic feedback are the game changers for me. Firing that revolver feel more powerful than ever on the PS5 joystick, I remember one of the manuscript pages says something about wake's arm feeling the intense discharge of the revolver and I felt that too. Also, you can feel the dark presence coming by the way the joystick vibrates, It's something you just can't put into words but feels amazing. Having ALL platforms, the PS5 is the best one ever for this remastered experience. 

    Too bad the problem with the cutscenes, it's not that they are 30FPS (sometimes they feel like 10FPS) but sometimes the voices would not play, and I would have to restart the console to get it working again, there are problems all right, but none of them took me away from enjoying it. Alan Wake was a masterpiece, and this remasters help me enjoy this classic in a more modern way. PS: Read a lot of USER REVIEWS on this, seems like the only ones who can enjoy this game are the ones who already like the original, for newcomers the gameplay is dull, the updated graphics do not look so good, and the dialogue (the best part for me) is boring for some. I think that not everyone can appreciate a 2010 masterpiece in 2021.     … Expand

    We are already looking forward to the freshly announced second part of the series. Fans can directly relive the story with this title and then directly get involved in the sequel in 2023. We are very excited and look forward to the coming hours with "Alan Wake Remastered".

    I would whole heartedly recommend buying this complete edition, instead of outdated original. Original was amazing, until this version came out. Now, this is the best version of this game.

    An excellent remaster for one of the best games that came from the XBOX 360 generation. Great story and and atmosphere building will have you fully immersed from start to finish and having you asking questions and wanting to learn more about the universe. This game holds up very well to modern standards. I did not encounter any game breaking bugs during my two playthroughs.     Fantastic game from beginning to end… if it had a lvling system it would be complete… maybe like some type of item building or Makin bullets or weapons… but it’s a 10year old game Great story though!! Recommend to anyone on ps5

    Awesome and kind of underrated game, but that's for understandable reasons, because it was xbox exclusive for a long time. Even tho, it should have lots of PC fans, because it originally came out on PC in 2012 (2010 for xbox). Overall i think this remaster brought lots of new fans into Alan Wake universe and i'm hyped for the sequel. Remedy rarely disappoints.

    I’ve never been able to try this game although I always wanted to. The remastered version which I bought for under 15$ on ps5 is worth every dollar spent on it. This game has very interesting plot, a lot of mechanics introduced in every chapter so you won’t get bored with it. There is repetitiveness at no point compared to other games. It’s also not that scary compared to other survivalI’ve never been able to try this game although I always wanted to. The remastered version which I bought for under 15$ on ps5 is worth every dollar spent on it. It’s also not that scary compared to other survival horrors but I would rather consider it more of an action adventure game. Graphics are nice, sound and voice acting is good to say the least. If you are into adventure games like resident evil, evil within etc. then you will feel like home here.… Expand

    Having missed the original release, this game has been on my list for far too long. Remastered version is basically the same thing, just brought to modern smoothness and graphical fidelity. It looks good, but pales in comparison to modern titles. However the story is amazing and so are the gameplay mechanics. Controls and repeating enemy types do feel dated, but did not bother me at all.

    Just an amazing story with incredibly well built athmosphere coupled with great sounds and music. Never got to play the original. Can't wait for AW2.

    I've always loved Alan Wake and the remaster just makes it better. There are issues, some of the lip synching and facial animations are distracting bad and some of the faces just look off. But this is a 10 year old game just getting upscaled to 4k and a few other graphical enhancements. While some people criticize the gameplay for being too much of the same but I always enjoyed it. The flashlight mechanic is a nice way to enhance the combat making you dodge and weave and use bullets to slow them down before they get too close to you.

    And the story is still amazing, for all of you new to remedy with Control I think you'll love this story.
    Also anyone into Twin Peaks or more supernatural/psychological horror should check it out as well!

    For $40 with the two dlc packs and new commentary for us longtime fans this is easily worth picking up whether you're a returning fan or have been curious to see what it's all about.    … Expand

    This is no doubt about it a underrated games at points sitting with a score to people with a score of 8 to 8.5 but this game is truly a masterpiece and people should give it a try. the remastered version looks beautiful but although people say the graphics didn't change as much in this game, the game in general is just good and one heck of a nightmare.

To be honest i never really cared for the cutscenes in this game, i have played it since 2012 and i always skipped cutscenes after 1st time i played it. I just find it weird when people play it and act like cutscenes aren't top tier, like people don't understand that this isNot perfect, yet okay remaster. All cutscenes look way better than original ones, still not amazing, but way better. To be honest i never really cared for the cutscenes in this game, i have played it since 2012 and i always skipped cutscenes after 1st time i played it. I just find it weird when people play it and act like cutscenes aren't top tier, like people don't understand that this is updated 2010/2012 video game. For 2010/2012, this game looks phenomenally good. So yeah main improvement is cutscenes, but also everything else, like grass, ground textures, textures in general, lighting. Ghosting effect is gone (thank god). Maxed out, this is now best version of this game and nobody can argue that. It simply looks way cleaner and better and don't get me wrong, fog is still there, difference is that you can actually now see where you are going. I have played this game over 30 times and i always got lost somewhere in the woods, because it was so difficult to even understand where you are. This problem is gone now. Looks good, not perfect, but still best version of this game as of right now. graphically it can almost compete with some modern games. New York level looks better than ever. Performance is okay, but i'm sure they will update it even more.

    I wanted to play this for a long time and finally did it. And it justified my expectations. One of the best horror experiences i had. The town,characters, the atmosphere is a one of a kind. Definitely a game for fans of Twin Peaks, Stranger Things, and Stephen King books.

I missed the first release in 2010 so this was a good chance to see what I missed. While I'm glad to have had this opportunity, Alan Wake has aged quite poorly in some areas but remains a worthwhile adventure.

    The graphics of AW are good, with character models    Alan Wake is the type of game that stirs fond memories for the cult following that embraced the game back in the day. I missed the first release in 2010 so this was a good chance to see what I missed. While I'm glad to have had this opportunity, Alan Wake has aged quite poorly in some areas but remains a worthwhile adventure.

    The graphics of AW are good, with character models benefitting from the remaster treatment. One thing I noticed was framerate drops on occasion and even during cut-scenes, which is odd for a remaster. AW also doesn't get many opportunities to display graphical power when much of the game takes place in the dark, but the brief moments spent in daylight allowed for some interesting views and the graphics overall have not aged as badly as the gameplay.

    The gameplay of AW falls into a one-dimensional approach that is a bit protracted and aged now. There is quite a bit of walking to be done, as well as standing waiting for AW to catch his breath as he is realistically depicted as unfit to a fault. The concept of weakening enemies with the torch and then killing them with guns is fine, but by the end of the game this is quite a tedious mechanic and there really isn't much else to the gameplay.

    AW involves puzzles and traversal, but these are probably the worst aspects of the gameplay. I found it rather arduous to enter an area, have the camera pan to my target, and show me the distance I needed to travel and the switches/doors I needed to resolve en-route. These areas were then predictably hindered by spots of enemies exactly where you would expect them to appear, making them a nuisance rather than a horror.

    I give kudos to AW for largely generous checkpoints, as it is curiously easy to die in this game. There were a few areas that took a few attempts and what I learned was not to be conservative with ammo as you lose it all so bloody frequently anyway.

    The story of AW is what brings the game to a quite positive rating for me. A tale of trying to rescue your wife soon becomes immersed in all sorts of mystery and supernatural elements that you should explore for yourself rather than have it spoiled here. There was a lot of faff with reading manuscripts that I barely bothered with and it didn't hinder my experience. The small cast of characters you meet do a good job of making themselves likeable or unlikeable as intended by the writers.

    Overall, Alan Wake is a good and innovative game considering it was released around 2010. In 2021 it feels dated in some ways but the concept and premise it brought to the table still work really well. I realised that these are the same developers who made Control (which is awful) and Max Payne (which is awesome), and the influences of this is visible in AW also. If you have never experienced AW before, this is a good way to do it although it could probably lose a chapter of the game for a more concise experience. If you played the original, this is hard to recommend.    … Expand

    The game didn't age well. I loved to play original Alan Wake 10 years ago. Still love the story and atmosphere, but the gameplay feels outdated, controls are clumsy and fights are long and boring. Also bugs: visible stutter in cutscenes, also got stuck several times, had to restart checkpoint.

    the game still pretty much the same so its literarily remastered means if someone already finished the first one there's no need to replay it but still a very unique game anyway with a very unique story and gameplay.

    2 games in my entire life did I give up on after 3 hours: this game and death stranding.

    One of my favorite games of all time and all remastered for only $40? AMAZING. The gameplay is still not perfect but overall always a great experience playing this game!

    What I experienced is a repetitive boring gameplay where you go to a house, then a small part of the story is explained, and after that you walk again and face the same enemies until reaching part B, where another small part of the story is explained again.     I'm pretty sure this game was such a success back in the days with its "original style", but now is boring. I can't even recommend it story wise: a boring old lady, "evil" tractors and barrels... For me, this game is a bad joke. Save your money.    … Expand

    But where the game falls down is...well, everything else. There are only three enemy types and they are precisely the same enemy with different perks attached. Every single enemy is defeated by repeating the same monotonous cycle of 'shine light, shoot.' Each chapter is around two hours long and the game would have benefitted from having more obvious rest points, as the gameplay is so tedious.

    The level design is equally poor. Early on, I thought each level would be set in a unique location, but it quickly transpires that you'll spend the next 10 hours running around the same forest, and searching the same copy-and-paste cabins. Searching for collectibles isn't fun as you find yourself just wandering around in glitchy trees in the dark.

    AW's stamina is appalling. Run for two seconds and he's tired. And no, you can't upgrade this. Actually, you can't upgrade anything at all. There is no skill tree, no progression and no XP of any sort.

    Maybe this was good 'back in the day' when crap games were called good because technology was crap and we were happy for anything that wasn't 2D. But today, seen objectively, this is a disaster of a game and is only rated highly by middle-aged men who thinks it makes them feel young again to play something they played a hundred years ago. No, mate. You're old now and your life is whack. Be honest. And be honest about this game. It belongs in the bin. Along with your life.

    By the way, the frame rate drops into negative numbers in EVERY SINGLE CUTSCENE. This is an 11-year-old xbox 360 game, merely remastered (poorly at that) and it won't even run properly on a PS5. The controls and disgusting. This game should be banned. It puts the 'falls' in Bright Falls.    … Expand

One thing I would recommend is to shut the HUD off it becomes way more atmospheric if you do that. I would recommended it is not the best but it is interesting and worth a try… Expand

    The remastered version was my first experience playing this one. Even with the remaster, I was not impressed with any supposed graphical improvements, the story was OK but the dialogue was not. Everything seemed very forced in that regard and didn't seem natural.

It lacks the pacing, atmosphere, and mystery of TP by far.

    What sealed the deal for me was all the few of this game's puzzles. Why make a horror game and put puzzles with a difficulty for 5-year-olds? I felt offended, the solutions were so mind-numbingly dumb that it felt like the game treats you as an idiot.

    Absolutely cannot recommend it unless you're a lover of generic horror flicks. But then it's probably better to just watch some movie version on YouTube and not put yourself to hours of boring gameplay.

The sound is absolutely HORRIBLE (I have a REALLY expensive top of the range Samsung and Harmon Kardon soundbar with sub and rear speakers) Background noises are loud af. Apparently it’s a graphical upgrade from the 360 version, I mean I don’t know cos I never played it, but it’s pretty damn lame if it is as it still looks like a 360 game. And btw I love these types of games too. The basically story based with only moderate combat and interaction with the world, detective style games which is why I even bought this game as I’m not a remaster fan but since I never played the original it’s “new” for me. Shouldn’t have bothered though as it’s basically hot garbage. Luckily I’m able to get a no questions asked refund by the retailer I purchased it from. If you’re going to do a remaster make it great and up to scratch quality-wise with todays games or don’t bother because when you release a game now it’s judged (and rightly so) by todays standards. You don’t get to release it and get a pass because it was originally released years ago, it has to stack up current day too. It’s a 360 game with a Ps5 logo tacked onto the game case for appearance sake. 5/10, Horrible… Expand

    The story was awesome.. the downside however.. will be the gameplay.
    The combat is awful and is extremely repetitive.

    For those who have not played Alan Wake before I will recap the story for you all in this case. Alan Wake is a writer with writer's block which seems to be because of burnout during his last book tour which we do not really find this out till the last chapter of the game. Alan and his wife take a vacation in a very small town called Bright Falls which seems cute, tiny, and quaint at first, but in a very short time takes a dark turn while you are at your cabin. Your wife goes missing and you wake up what seems to be a nightmare straight out of a Stephen King movie. This evil old lady really wants you to write the ending of your next book and until you do the evil and darkness will keep a hold of your wife until you do.

    So the gameplay in this game you can definitely tell this game was made in 2010 especially when it comes to the character models but as long as you keep this in mind it is forgivable. The gameplay is a 3rd person action-adventure/survival horror, you will need to stay out of the darkness and remain in the light so that you do not get killed. The enemy types you encounter in this game are called the taken which are just the bright falls town people but all of them are coming at you with chainsaws, shovels and scythes (wait now that I think of it reminds me of resident evil 4 but none the less I digress). How you defeat the taken is by shining a flashlight on the taken and then shooting them; you can also use a flare gun, road flares, or flashbang to defeat them as well. Along the way you will also collect numerous coffee thermos, manuscript pages now keep in mind you can only collect some of these on nightmare difficulty. I felt like I spent 80% of my time collecting stuff rather than continuing with the adventure.

    The game is quite a short game it's only 6 chapters long and that is enough of this game for me when it comes to this. It's a nice throwback to 2010’s games but wears off quickly with the dated gameplay but still an intriguing story. But I would wait for the game to drop to 20.00$ I know I will probably only play this game once.

    Speaking as somebody who never played the original and hence whose view isn't completely colored by nostalgia (unlike some other reviewers here), this game could've REALLY benefitted from a more extensive remastering effort or even a full-on remake that updated the graphics in a more serious way beyond just upscaling and also tackled some of the 360-era jank concerning the clunky movementSpeaking as somebody who never played the original and hence whose view isn't completely colored by nostalgia (unlike some other reviewers here), this game could've REALLY benefitted from a more extensive remastering effort or even a full-on remake that updated the graphics in a more serious way beyond just upscaling and also tackled some of the 360-era jank concerning the clunky movement and sluggish, unresponsive controls; maybe even made the gameplay a little more interesting. As it stands, AW's biggest draw is its surreal horror-mystery-thriller narrrative, but the gameplay supporting that narrative is often tedious and frustrating. The torch/shooting mechanics never really evolve beyond what you experience in the first few minutes of the game and after the 500th detour that Wake has to take for some contrived reason and the 300th game-lengthening shootout that plays exactly like the 299 that came before it, I was pretty much just over it and ready for the game to be over. This would've been a much better experience if it was like a third shorter because the simplistic mechanics really cannot carry a game of this length, it just becomes a chore to play towards the end when the game keeps ramming the same old combat down your throat again and again and again...

    The game also has a bad habit of giving you more and more weapons during the course of each chapter only to take them away EVERY TIME a new episode starts, which also gets very old very quickly. I guess they couldn't think of any way to evolve the gameplay in any meaningful way, so this was their best idea to mix things up? Similarly, they also couldn't think of any real boss fights, especially no final boss which is super disappointing (this seems to be a common problem for Remedy games, Control had the exact same issue and also suffered from a severe lack of variety), so all they throw at you are enemies or objects with bigger-than-normal health. As for puzzles, they are few and far between and they rarely go beyond "press this switch here so that you can then press that switch over there", which barely even qualifies as a puzzle.

    Concerning the graphics, as I already said, not much was done here beyond upscaling, so the game looks REALLY ugly by today's standards. The audio also isn't anything to write home about, everything just sounds really flat, definitely not a headphone game.

    As a bonus, the two DLCs have been included, the first of which might be the worst DLC I have ever played, just more mindless shootouts in locations you already visited in the main campaign, just really lazy and boring. The second one plays up the surreal element more and focuses less on combat, which is very welcome and honestly should have probably been happening all along. It is really, really short, though.

    So, yeah: Great story, repetitive and simplistic gameplay, pretty bad presentation. If you can stomach the latter two and like surreal stories, give it a go via Playstation Plus or get it on sale. I do no think it is worth the normal price of 30 bucks, though, as it is a very low-effort "remaster" (more like an HD port).    … Expand

I do not appreciate that yoo loose all your times between chapters but after some time you will learn to just use it for good.

    I would recommend Alan Wake Remastered as a whole but it has some flaws which is why I dont feel it is more than an eight for me.    … Expand

    Thought this game was fun, The remaster is adequate better graphics but still looks and feels like an older game. Played this in anticipation for Alan Wake 2 looking forward to a modern take on this cool setting. Plus the music is awesome loved it

I don’t see how it would have ruined the game to make some improvements here and there. Maybe these game remastered should introduce different game modes, giving you a choice between original and improved gameplay. That way, hardcore fans won’t have a meltdown while new ones can enjoy some sanity. I quit the game and am now regretting the $30, but I might give it another chance if I get bored enough.… Expand

    Combat, gameplay and locations all get repetitive halfway through. There's very little enemy variety and the "puzzles" are too easy. The game also forces you to fight the enemies in a certain way and to me it honestly feels like there's almost no wiggle room. Alan Wake is a very linear experience.

    Sprint and dodge are both assigned to L1 which is terrible, since you can't sprint when the enemies are close to Wake. There are collectibles, like the coffee thermoses, that do nothing; they could've added some concept art or other rewards for the remaster. Checkpoints are occasionally frustrating as well.

    I played Alan Wake Remastered on normal difficulty. The renamed difficulty options are a bit confusing as normal was definitely quite challenging. What used to be called 'normal' and 'hard' are now 'easy' and 'normal'. To add to the confusion, the completion trophies haven't been renamed.

    I'm glad I can finally play Alan Wake on a PlayStation, but it's one of those games that was definitely better in 2010 than in 2022.    … Expand

Igniting a Flare sends the camera into a disorientating 360 degree when surrounded by enemies, which is cool initially but gets tedious quite quickly. There was also a lot of stuttering at the beginning of cutscenes that weren't present in the PS4 version. Nitpicks aside, this game is definitely worth a go for it's unique story and gameplay.… Expand

    Alan Wake has grown old with all the grace that a similar cult title deserves. It did not lose anything from its personal charm, and although the authors could go a step further in improving animations, it is a great game, which you can find at Sony console for the first time.

    This is the best version of Alan Wake you can play - but it’s also pretty much identical with the original game and the gameplay definitely feels a bit dated.
