I am having so much fun playing wolf. One of the best single player FPS games! The story is interesting, the characters are lovable, the gameplay is incredible. The guns feel so so good to shoot!! A great and a fresh game that a FPS fan should definitely check out.

Its a good game, gameplay is fun, two hand shooting feels really badass, well, story is good but not so great in my opinion. but no regenerate is really hard to adjust in this days, but its okay i can take it, the real annoy is you have to press square to pick up ammo and health package, this is really outdated, it makes me dizzy sometimes because you have to face your enemy meanwhile.itsIts a good game, gameplay is fun, two hand shooting feels really badass, well, story is good but not so great in my opinion. but no regenerate is really hard to adjust in this days, but its okay i can take it, the real annoy is you have to press square to pick up ammo and health package, this is really outdated, it makes me dizzy sometimes because you have to face your enemy meanwhile.its a great recall to old FPS game, but we have to say that this series need new things, otherwise it will be more and more out of place in modern FPS genre Expand

I was really surprised by this one. And enjoyed it thoroughly despite awful violence and sometimes too-hard-gameplay. That was the first shooter since Half-Life 2 and Portal that mesmerized me with its world. Pros:
+ Killing Nazis is a guilty pleasure that will never grow old. + I was impressed by the dedication of the developers. The characters in the game speak real German and Polish languages. And that creates surreal atmosphere better than anything else. + The main story twist that the game happens in alternative 1960 is amazing. I wasn’t expecting this. And it’s smart writing. + German vinyls with covers of popular American songs. OMG, they were so amazing. + The Resistance consists of colorful characters. So I started to care about them straight away. + The pace of the story is quick. Locations and characters change the moment they get boring. And all the locations are drawn beautifully in the scenes where you enter them and see an overview.
    - Nazi generals are genuinely scary. Cons:
    - The game is too hard at times. Because some enemies are overpowered. At the same time the AI is stupid. So at some point I was killing Nazis from the ventilation because they couldn’t duck to shoot me. - Many things about the main cast of the characters didn’t pay off that much. Like with Max Hass. He’s a nice character. But doesn’t have much to do in the story. - The mission on the Moon was destroyed for me due to the constant necessity to hide and charge my weapons. That was not interesting to play despite the cool setting. - The final boss fight was meh. (As the one with London Monitor too.)
    - In general, it’s a very violent and old school shooter. Also, it has exaggerated simplistic fantasy-like characters. And **** sex sometimes. So it’s much harder to emotionally connect to this game. It’s not Last of Us by any means. More like a wonderfully done violent fan service.

I'm not even a fan of modern FPS titles such as Call of Duty anymore but they're definitely a more immersive adventure than this. I'd recommend skipping it unless your a classic FPS fan or a diehard Wolfenstein player. Expand

Maybe I shouldnt play both games side by side cos it just spoils Wolfenstein for me. Will prob try Wolfie again a few months down the road, this time without Destiny, maybe an RPG or something.

On the upside, Wolfie had interesting characters, and a cool alternate history story, Shame the gunplay put me off continuing with the story. I played up till Chapter 6 on difficulty above normal. Stealth part completed, then got swamped with a bunch of enemies, and had to restart over and over again, repeating the stealth parts again.

The weapon wheel is so frustrating as when i ran out of ammo during a gunfight or have to switch to a shotgun for close up fights and i press the alternate weapon button(triangle), it gives me a useless pistol or whatever weapon that was automapped. so i still had to use the clumsy weapon wheel mid-battle to switch and OMG is that frustrating.

So in short, potentially good FPS for me but gunplay broke the game for me, all due to Destiny's superior mechanics.

Edit: Just finished the game. For some reason, the game grew on me with its fantastic characters, themes, dialogue, story and narrative. It was powerful enough for me to ignore the poor aspects of the game's mechanics and power on through. I stopped comparing it to Destiny so that helped. Despite having a cliche Nazi story, this game really is a beautiful journey about love and sacrifice. I felt oddly sad when it ended cos half the time i was screaming at the horrible controls and frustrating gameplay but, kudos to the writers, they got me! Will be playing The Old Blood now, and MachineGames have turned me into a fan, well done! Advice to those not so good with FPS like me, play on easy or normal, that should make the game less frustrating.

With all the new FPS being futuristic or Modern warfare, I forgot how fun it was to kill a bunch of racist Nazis. The gameplay is solid and gives you a challenge throughout the game especially on Uber, and its the best part of the game. Although the gameplay is great I had the game crash on me a lot on certain stages on my PS4. The ID Tech 5 engine isn't shown off as much as it does look like a last gen game. (But what I heard, the PC Version looks so much better) And the story is... well... dull.

    The story goes like this:
In an alternative universe Dr.Deathhead created these futuristic like technology that gave Nazis the advantage to win the war, Therefore the Nazis win the war. This idea is very fresh and interesting to keep me going but here comes the stupidity. You play as J.G Blakovich, An Ex War Veteran who during in a battle, skull was hit by shrapnel. Blakovich could not move anymore as he was taken to Portugal to stay at an Asylum for now on. 13 years went by and Blakovich could move again due to a Nazi attack at the Asylum. What happens there? Its for you to find out. Now, It sounds cool and all but you will figure out that the story is bland and cliché at times and some characters can make no sense on why they exist. And the ending... Its so bad. I don't want to give out any spoilers but when you see the ending you will understand what I mean. Overall, if you are looking for an FPS That's fun throughout, buy this game.

I actually wasn’t entirely sure what to expect out of this going into it. The “Wolfenstein” series is one that I’ve heard good things about, but otherwise never really paid all that much attention to (a quote I can probably use when describing most of Bethesda’s other games as well). And admittedly, even in the largely lackluster year for gaming that was 2014, “Wolfenstein: The New Order”I actually wasn’t entirely sure what to expect out of this going into it. The “Wolfenstein” series is one that I’ve heard good things about, but otherwise never really paid all that much attention to (a quote I can probably use when describing most of Bethesda’s other games as well). And admittedly, even in the largely lackluster year for gaming that was 2014, “Wolfenstein: The New Order” was a game that kinda slipped by the cracks for me: I think I’d remembered hearing that the game was just “fine” when it first came out then, and though I’ve heard a few people say that it’s aged nicely, I can say after finally playing the game 5 years later that “fine” is pretty much the best descriptor for the game.
There are a lot of things to love about “Wolfenstein: The New Order” right off the bat: graphically, while some of the models in the game do kind of show their age, the visuals are nevertheless detailed and pretty great. I love how well the game captures the look and feel of a 1960s, WWII shooter, and many of the levels are designed in a way that begs for exploration. The game also really shines in its writing, what with the interesting alternate history concept and the Axis winning the war, along with the many memorable characters. Naturally, Blazkowicz is the real highlight here, and what I can really commend this game on is that Blazkowicz feels like a really deep and layered character. I’ve heard a lot about how Blazkowicz was previously just a character merely bent on winning for America, but now, he actually has more emotional depth and he feels like a more sympathetic character. I also really enjoy much of the gameplay: beyond the strong gunplay and interesting dual-wielding, I really love how the game utilizes its stealth elements, to the point where it’s not afraid to slow things down from other shooters and emphasize strategy more than mindless killing.
So, honestly, for much of the game I was really loving my experience, and I thought this game had the potential to be one of the better shooters that I’ve played. But, unfortunately, at about the last third, this game almost completely drags its way to the finish and flames out. The level design becomes less interesting and more frustrating to deal with at time, the difficulty spike can often be way too large, even if you’re like me and you played the game on a lower difficulty setting, and the boss battles in the game are mostly pretty bad. I don’t know if it’s because they didn’t know how to make compelling boss fights, but fighting them just feels really dull, clunky and just not all that captivating.
All in all, though, while “Wolfenstein: The New Order” may not be the top-of-the-line FPS I was hoping it would be in the early stages of it, and is certainly rough around the edges, this is a nicely-made, all-around fine shooter while it lasts. It won’t stand the test of time or forever be remembered as an all-time classic in the realm of gaming, but given the tumultuous period it seemed the series was going through prior to this game’s release, this was probably better than it had the right to be.

It had a very old school feel, which I do like, but the controls were just not well thought out. The cover system felt very awkward and the weapon wheel really takes you out of the action. Even after several hours of play I couldn't stand the controls and ditched using the peek mechanic altogether. Also, having to press a button every time you want to pick up ammo, health, armor or any collectible is incredibly frustrating. You're looking at the ground for most of the game trying to pick things up. During a firefight when you need that crucial medkit or extra ammo you will find this insanely tedious. Come on Bethesda, did you even play this game before release?

The story is meh. Pretty inconsequential. It's just an excuse to kill nazis, which is cool, I guess. But don't we want games that do more than just give you an excuse to kill everything in incredibly violent ways? (Looking at bioshock)

My vote: save your $60 for something better. This is a rental at best.

Let's start out on a good note and explain why this game is at least an 8 out of 10. The game is gorgeous. The design and use of colors is brilliant. You'd think fighting black clad Nazis in across a grey concrete city would be visually unappealing. Maybe it would except the developers make excellent use of color form the red lights of enemy robots, to the orange glow of firearms, and the innate color of the many, many objects that fill in the world with unbelievable detail. NPCs in the game are also quite colorful, not only in hue but also in personality. Set pieces rival and perhaps surpass anything from Call of Duty. (Moving vertically through a wrecked train was my personal favorite.) The cutscenes and interactive (non-shooting) portions of the game are also well done. Don't let the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions fool you; the PS4 version looks like a true current gen title.

The story is also well done. What could have been a bleak and hopeless alternative timeline of worldwide Nazi domination is instead a story of hope against impossible odds. The story is not perfect, and we see several tropes including the player character often falling unconscious and suffering capture and torture by the enemy. Seriously, I have no greater pet peeve than seeing the player character defeated by a scripted event and then humiliated in an unplayable cut scene. Fortunately, the story brings in some very bizarre and curious sci-fi elements such as secret Jewish science and moon bases. The game is worth playing for the story alone.

Now let's get negative and discuss those 2 points that should have made Wolfenstein a perfect 10. The health and armor mechanics in Wolfenstein are a purposefully archaic throwback to the original 1992 release of Wolfenstein 3D. As a concession to modern gaming, your health will regenerate up to 20%. Otherwise, the only way to prevent death is to constantly pick up armor and health packs in the environment. The problem with this old fashioned scheme is that the player never feels emboldened to progress forward until they have scoured every nook and cranny of the environment for every health and armor pick-up. To keep the player moving, the game world has to present copious amounts of health and armor pickups at predetermined checkpoints. You know a boss battle is coming if a hallway is filled with armor. Considering a second playthrough, I audibly grown at the prospect of having to search every level again for health and armor. As someone who played the original Wolfenstein in 1992, and then played through the evolution of first person shooters, including the groundbreaking Halo series, I would rather ditch the nostalgia and move the genre forward.

The gun play in the game is solid if not limited by the lack of scopes on most of the weapons. The game really wants you to play it as a corridor shooter, where shotguns and hip fire reign supreme. However, most of the beautiful set pieces are best played using guns to their full advantage, i.e. shooting enemies at a distance. The tendency of enemies to come from all directions also favors cover and shoot style gameplay, and I was a little disappointed by how effective I could be crouching behind one doorway and obliterating dozens of Nazis. I do give the game credit for not spamming grenades at the player. Games that encourage use of cover are disingenuous when they have every enemies lob grenades every time you crouch behind a crate.

The gunplay in destiny is further denigrated by the accuracy of enemies. You will take damage if you are out in the open. You will take damage if you pop your head out of cover. You will take damage in a full sprint jumping off ledges and dodging behind cover. One of my big complaints of Half-Life 2 was the spamming of automatic fire by enemies. While you were supposed to cleverly manipulate objects with your gravity gun, a half dozen drones were shooting you dead with hundreds of bullets. Half-Life 2 was released over 10 years ago and since then, modern games have done better. Smarter a.i. that will lose track of the player and even better, miss the player every now and then. The spray and play happy a.i. exacerbates the archaic health and armor pickups and lack of scoped weapons.

If Wolfenstein: The New Order ever receives a sequel, they should move the gameplay into the modern times and make the 1992 health and armor system an optional way to play.

And yes you can notice how much detail was put into this game. With all those newspaper pages scattered everywhere, collectibles, deciphering enigma codes, and finding clues in game how to decipher them. These small things adds up to the game like a good spicing to great steak, or a good wash to a car, or a nicely mawed lawn or (you got the idea).

The story! Finally the fps that is mainly story oriented. It was like they made the story first, then designed all of the levels, enemies etc, according to it. Just the way games were done some time ago, and not focusing entirely on specs of the hardware, trying to squeeze those last drops, just so they would try to shove some sort of pseudo-important visual features (like people weren't able to enjoy games that looked like **** 10 years ago). So basically whole game rotates around the story, and while it's quite predictable, it is still making you fell like you;re not just shooting waves of enemies just so the game would deliver that minimal amount of time for you to spend to reach the apogee. The caracters are great, there is a lot of dialogue, everything seems quite well paced, but not exactly perfect for my taste. But I guess that had to be done for the story.

So yeah You're shooting nazis, I a nicely looking game, that feel like great shooter (up with the likes of BF4), and has a story, and full of collectibles, even stealth, and bosses! I mean what else could you ask for?

I give it 9, because there were few small things that needed to be done differently for me(not for everyone) to get 10. I Do recommend, if you are the kind of player who used to play cod and medal of honor, and then stopped (just like I did) after cod mw2. I think I have missed cus, I have been distracted will al that publicity of other sh**y games advertisement. Mind you I haven't played any of the hyped games of 2014, and feel proud of myself :D

The shooting mechanics as a whole (the feel of the guns, the leaning/cover system, the weapons) are pretty tight. There is only a limited number of actual weapons, but the ammo varieties and dual-wield spice it up enough to keep the gunplay fresh.

The story is probably the most surprising part of the game. In an era where most games are pushing multiplayer, Wolfenstein double-downed on the single-player delivering an engaging story with a host of characters. Granted, not all characters are memorable, but the story is delivered in a way that is compelling enough to warrant a replay.

Graphically, the game is good. It is not going to blow you away, but the visuals do a fine job. From a difficulty standpoint, Wolfenstein is not very difficult for experienced shooter players. On uber difficulty there are a couple challenging battles towards the end of the game, but overall nothing that is frustrating.

Overall, Wolfenstein: The New Order is going to provide a fun experience with a good story. One major drawback for some is probably going to be the lack of additional game modes for a full price game. If you are worried about that, wait for a price drop or sale. Otherwise, I believe it is worth a play.

I'm so glad I didn't skip this one. A truly amazing classic FPS experience, it really made me feel nostalgic, and not in a forced way. The story and the world is very interesting, I just wish that somehow we could explore more of it

Certainly one of the best shooters to be released in some time. Most definitely one of the top-5 PS4 games released regardless of genre (as of July '14). Incredible game, and a definite recommendation.

Overall, good game and is worth the purchase.
Pro: Story, graphics and action are satisfying. I liked how the game shows the character during cut scenes and not just a 1 or 2 times during the whole game.

overall i would highly recommend this game to anyone, whether it be on current gen or next gen, wolfenstein 3d is one of the ps4s strongest titles, probably not as iconic as wolfenstein 3d, but who cares?? when you can mow down a line of 8 bionic suit wearing nazis, with dual wield model 1960s or take down a crazed nazi officer in front of his lover, nothing really matters

Speaking of which, the special edition is quite good, it doesn't lock off content from the game for those who can't afford to go all in however does at the same time give you some good stuff, it comes with a wallet, several postcards and a "guide to occupied Britain" and a nice larger box to keep it all in and all the products within are of a very good quality, the postcards especially so and the guide to occupied Britain is quite amusing. However I do have one major grievance with it, as despite being advertised on the front of the box, the doom beta code did not work for me, this may be because I didn't pre-order however on the terms and conditions, pre-ordering is not mentioned, so anyone buying solely for that will be upset. Onto the game, the game is surprisingly good, doing the resistance three thing of both combining the good aspects of old FPS, with new FPS very effectively, there's some regenerating health but this only goes so far and you'll have to rely on med-packs and armour otherwise, also the game has a very nice map design, with exploration rewarded with hidden goodies. Also there is some decent re-playability too, both with going over the levels with a fine-tooth comb looking for the enigma codes and gold trinkets you missed, not to mention the extra game modes said enigma codes unlock and the choice you make in-game to keep one character alive or not, though admittedly it's re-playability is hardly ground-breaking.
As for the action, you should be pleased to know that the action is as meaty and explosive as a sausage roll made by the Taliban, with your character BJ (yes I know, haha) being able to dual wield shotguns each firing different bullet types into crowds of Nazi mecha-soldiers, alternatively you can go sneaky sneaky with a silenced pistol and lethal take-downs including drowning Nazis in their own piss and when that eventually fails going back to shooting like a madman, all of which is very very fun. The game also has a surprisingly deep (for a shooter) alternate history back story which you can find out about through letters, recordings and newspapers and gladly isn't forced down our throat MGS style. Speaking of story, well it's pretty standard really, Nazis are bad, kill them in various different cool environments, though that's not to say the story is bland or boring, it certainly can be charming at times, though the best part of it is the characters, your character may be a muscled all-American patriot meat-head but at the same time he is still a flawed character (in the good way I mean) in the sense that he is tired of it all and has next to nothing left, also he gets called out on his senseless patriotism by another character later, so though there are some tropes prevalent that doesn't stop both the characters from shining. Of course the bad guys are also fantastically evil, even for Nazis these guys manage to be **** sinister. All in all a solid game, even if the game feels a tad stumpy, the scenes contrived and the beta code a bit buggy, that doesn't stop the fact that killing Nazis has never been more fun, I would very much like more shooters like this to come out.

The action is superb and all the weapons feel great in terms of handling, fun to fire and visualization of the impact of them. The nazi enemies are not the brightest when it comes to AI but still they are not simply cannonfudder and give you a hard time proceeding to the next level from time to time. Especially some of the more advanced units like the "Supersoldaten" in advanced chapters are a pain in the neck.

The story is a bit trashy (but come on it's the Wolfenstein franchise) but well told in great cinematics. The acting and voices are great, especially the Nazis who speak an accent free german (and some even with regional german accents - that's just excellent). The fact that the germans mostly speak german as native germans speak throughout the game and every member of the resistance speaks with a foreign english accent depending on where they come from makes it very authentic and adds a lot to the great atmosphere the game creates!

Overall I really enjoyed the game and there is hardly anything negative I can think about!
Compared to Killzone which is the only other real Shooter I have played on the PS4 so far Wolfenstein the new Order is the better game. Maybe not for the graphics but for the overall atmosphere and fun you get with the game!

However, the stealth approach does expose some inconsistency within the AI. They were not very aware of their surroundings, such as not reacting to a dead body. The guns were big, load and satisfying to shoot with. Nearly all of the weapons can be dual wielded and all of them come with upgrades. There is an exciting upgrade system that is achieved by accomplishing various mini missions that lure you to try out new things that you might not have thought off.

Wolfenstein: The New Order has a solid plot that remains interesting through out its 15-20 hour game play. The characters are well developed with good writing and voice acting. There is no multiplayer in this game; however, the pleasing story elements and joyous game play highly compensates for this.Wolfenstein is a game that will entertain you from start to finish and i highly recommend it.

The graphics are only slightly better than last gen, I'll admit that. The gameplay itself is pretty good when played on a higher difficulty (more ammo management and strategy involved)..haven't played it on easy but I could see how the game could go by fast on anything short of medium difficulty. So far, this game is the best single-player experience on next gen, and I haven't seen anything that can dethrone this at the moment.

The game gets boring towards the end, running into the same enemies in the same environments with nothing changed except more smoke and higher health-pools, making the difficult to kill armored enemies even more annoying. WTNO is a decent FPS. It does a fair job at creating a unique atmosphere thanks to the concept of what life would be in case of a German-won WW2. Some sequences of the game are really good. My favorite is the mission where you have to infiltrate and live in a 1960s nazi concentration camp. The combination of the horror we already know with the effects of an alternate future is really bizarre, intriguing and interesting.

That previous example perfectly defines what I like about this game. Those parts where the point of the game doesn’t actually only consist of killing stronger and stronger enemies. And unfortunately, for the biggest part, that’s what Wolfenstein The New Order is about. Especially for the last 3-4 chapters, all you do is fighting always more and stronger enemies, but the level design is stale and uninteresting.

Technically, the game is correct for its age. Not many bugs, everything works as intended. Visually though, it got very old already and I think that even for its time, it was not a reference in terms of textures and visual effects. Same applies for the sound quality, you are miles away from what a AAA FPS has to offer. Directional/surround sounds are often poorly executed and misleading.

In terms of gameplay and content, the game is not that rich either, there are not that many weapons and their handling feels cheap. The game is not very long but considered the limited variety it contains, that is a good thing.

Wolfenstein The New Order attracted me for its setting, its context, and for that I wasn’t disappointed, and sometimes even positively surprised. But for the rest, the game is too fade and doesn’t compete with other better FPSs (even if a good FPS is not that easy to find anymore).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is one of those game that you play and never forget. It's definitely worth your time to play it. Obviously it's better than call of duty and battlefield. It is. It is the funnest first person shooter I have ever played. The only first person shooter that may beat this is Far Cry, and I've never played far cry. The story in this game is surprisingly good for a first person shooter. Many parts in this game are unrealistic as you survive insane encounters. This game is also very well known for it's gore, so if you don't like gore, I suggest you skip some of the cut scenes. Don't avoid the game because you don't like gore. I don't like gore either, but I played it because it is that good. Now as far as graphics go, they are great during cut scenes but complete **** during the game. They're not unbearable, but unacceptable for a recent title. The game is also surprisingly long. I've never played a first person shooter that was this long. I believe it took me 12 to 17 hours to beat the game. It's not as easy as your standard first person shooter either. None of that Call of Duty **** It's not that bad though, thanks to the five different difficulties that are included that have hilarious titles to them. All of the characters are original and feel somewhat real. Gameplay is as smooth as anything and the terror that you feel when you are in a Nazi prison is incredible. It definitely brings out the fear and depression that you would really feel if you were being infiltrated by Nazis. Another warning for parents and children, there are two sex scenes that don't show a lot, but can be skipped like any other cut scene. There is also a very gory torture scene where a man is dissected. This can also be skipped. Other than that, it's fine. This is a great game, and I feel for anyone who hasn't got the opportunity to play it yet. Expand

The story is not inherently bad, it shows you a lot of interesting experiments and huge Nazi aeronautical Museums which really set up a theme for the game. It also nails the feel of 'Undercover Resistance''. Unfortunately the story is not anything amazing as the plot is not very personal and ends at 'stop the nazis' whilst this is a staple for a wolfenstein game , it just feels weak. It's worth noting however that they do a great job of making B.J Blazkowitz seem more like a human with a personality.

The gameplay is the meat of the sandwich and feels great, weapons are comically big and there is a wide variety of them. The combat is gorey and feels fantastic, other first person shooters have a lot to learn from this game. There is also another playstyle if you don't want to go in gunsblazing , there is a commander system which incentivizes you to stealth in and kill them first before attacking the rest.

It's a great game and has great graphics great sound, However with a weak plot and somewhat repetitive gameplay, I feel it's an 8/10.

    - Pacing problems with the story

I played on the highest difficulty setting Uber and there were some frustrating bottlenecks that threw seemingly endless waves of enemies at me with scant resources to deal with them. I wish every game had the same collectible system as Wolfenstein. Pickup the collectible and it's yours, no need to hit the next check-point! Other reviews complaining about length must have played the game on a lower difficulty setting as I found the game to be just the right length for the challenge provided. Wolfenstein: The New Order is a gem of a game, though one baked in nostalgia. Wolfenstein: The New Order is a gem of a game, though one baked in nostalgia. Its run-and-gun, cover-is-for-the-weak, blow-everything-to-hell Nazi party is a welcome reprise from the hum-drum shooter affair plaguing the genre since the rise of the blue-grey, Whitcoulls-gift-voucher-for-X-mas FPS.

The Nazis have won, the future belongs to enormous Swastikas, mass culling of all nationalities (no discrimination here) and overall despair. Lovingly crafted by Machine Games, Wolfy New Order sees BJ Blaskowitz – full-time Nazi fun extinguisher – back in action. Though bloody and bombastic, this newest iteration on the series paints a far more detailed picture than expected, eliciting some oddly tender moments from our meaty hero and comrades.

The true charm of Wolfy lies in its older, more tactile mechanics. Similar to elder games of a the same ilk, retrieving items (health, armour, ammo and weapons) doesn’t require a simple stroll over or near supplies, but the single tap of a button. This does make for some high-intensity spamming but you can’t help but be transported back to a time before collision detection was perfected and the retrieving of med kits was deemed a wholly manual affair. Lovely.

However, with an older formula does come outdated ideas and things that have since evolved for good reason. Particularly evident in this regard is Wolfenstein’s choice of manually-triggered cutscenes. Well-polished, sure, but the sudden and self-inflicted snaps from gameplay to movie can impede on pacing, especially when a heated run-in with a Panzerhund – the SS’ very own nightmarish take on Astro from the Jetsons – morphs into an emotionally-charged chat with a colleague amongst bloody wreckage. Not a complete showstopper but its choices like these that really does have the once labyrinthine, granddaddy of shooters showing its age.

Old Blood expansion aside, there’s no doubt that Wolfenstein: The New Order deserves a sequel. Its reckless disregard for the methodical, plodding shooters of late brings with it a celebration of extravagant stabbing and the simple joys of moving through a level, blowing some **** up. This attitude coupled with an oddly thoughtful narrative makes new Wolfenstein an excellent package and a welcome return to the past.

I truly do, not just because it's near perfect in narrative and gameplay design, but also based on the mere fact that they managed it all within the confines of a Wolfenstein reboot, of all things. The gunplay is extremely satisfying, with visual feedback and sound design created by the gods themselves, while also supplying a slight pang of guilt with every downed Nazi, since the exploration sections are littered with letters, newspaper clippings and visual storytelling, depicting these usually straightforwardly evil antagonists as simply fellow humans, caught up in a conflict they did not ask to be involved in. This not only elicits a pretty strong emotion from the player, but it also works as a beautifully organic method of worldbuilding. It's a brave approach to this potentially taboo setting, but it's delivered with such unbelievable confidence that it never comes off as preachy or apologetic to the atrocities orchestrated by your enemies. There may well be innocent casualties in this fight, but there are still some unapologetically evil villains. Deathshead, Frau Engel, and some select unnamed soldiers commit such horrific acts of cruelty and violence, reminding the player that through the somewhat pulpy, B-movie tone, the Nazis are still a very real threat and need to be brought to justice by your hand. This makes killing the higher-up Nazi officers feel all the more satisfying. Your character is weak if caught out in the open, so the game encourages playing cautiously, moving between covers only when you actually can, finding new routes around each arena for the most efficient run possible. Gunplay requires thought, which makes overcoming each encounter feel absolutely brilliant. You really get the sense that you've overcome exceptional odds and it's great every time. Unfortunately, some level-end miniboss fights are often quite easy since the challenge of The New Order tends to originate from dealing with large groups of weak enemies, but I'd take engaging minute-to-minute combat with forgettable boss encounters any day over the reverse alternative. Stealth is incredibly satisfying too, throwing in clever music cues and wonderful gun sound. While the silenced pistol probably has entirely overpowered range and firing from the hip often bizarrely means greater accuracy, the pros definitely outweigh the cons here.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a game that shouldn't exist. It's a reboot of an old FPS franchise that only really had to be an extremely well-made but mindless arena shoot-em-up like its 2016 brother Doom. However, MachineGames did what nobody asked for and went the extra mile, setting the bar for exceptional world building and gunplay design, and I absolutely thank them for that. They took this comically goofy premise of a WW2 shooter where you fight MechaHitler, and transformed it into a profound, introspective study of the traditionally heroic video game tough guy protagonist. BJ Blazkovics remains my favourite FPS protag in gaming history, and I'm excited to see how they continue developing him in the next instalment of this wonderful franchise.

As for the shooting, Wolfenstein plays towards it's more classic roots, but keeping movement simple and exploration compartmentalized. Which may seem like a bad thing, it's not. In fact it works really well and keeps firefights tight and tense, when sh*t gets bad. Movement runs at 60 frames and is smooth as butter. With the only drawback being the stealth gameplay, which can make things too easy if you are really good at sneaking.

The ONLY other drawback is that THERE IS NO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN. BUT that is Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is for, which makes Castle Wolfenstein its centerpiece!!

Wolfenstein: The New Order es un juego excelente. Un reboot que merece la pena visitar si eres un aficionado al genero de los disparos en primera persona. Una historia decente, un apartado gráfico muy resultón para el tiempo que tiene y un rendimiento mucho más que aceptable. Pruébalo. No decepciona. Hay segunda parte, voy por ella.

I have spent a long time just trying to replay, write, re write, all just so I can make a review no one will read. I was very close to just giving up on this, but instead I sucked it up and did it anyways. So, Wolfenstein the New Order the game so many people call a return to old school fps games. I will admit this game is pretty badass for a modern shooter, but I would never call this game a old school fps.

Don't get me wrong I love most of Wolfenstein the New Order, I put it up there with Metro and Titanfall on my favorite modern fps games. There is a very key word I used there, most I like most of New Order. In terms of individual level quality some are the best in modern gaming, while others can go burn in a fire. I love the mission where you sneak into a maximum security prison to break people out. Then only for it to cock up and you shoot your way out blasting akimbo machine guns at Nazi’s. Meanwhile, you have a mission where you're slowly moving across a bridge getting sniped from enemies with automatic hitscan weapons.

The difficulty curve in general seems wonky, some segments in a level will just kick my ass while other segments I just dominate through. New Order also has a bad habit of taking your guns away. For example, There’s a mission where you have to find torpedos and hide yourself in them. So why would the game take my assault rifles, one shotgun, grenades, and one pistol. It wasn't to try and balance the rest of the level, because it gives you another assault rifle five seconds later. I think it was to try and immerse me in the game, if so it kinda had the opposite effect. Even then New Orders gun play is good enough to get me immersed, especially with how satisfying they are to use.

Almost every gun in the game can be akimbo, making some sections fast paced kill everyone on sight fun. To bad those sections are few and far between. A Lot of the time you’ll just be picking of Nazi’s from far away behind cover. They had so much potential with the akimbo mechanic’s it's kinda sad to see them be replaced with boring cover and stealth mechanics half the time. I don't understand why Machine Games had all of these other mechanics just piled on, It just makes the gameplay an unfocused mess. Especially when the stealth mechanics are the bare minimum required to be called stealth.

For example, good stealth mechanics give you a clear understanding of when you're visible or not. Wolfenstein's mechanics make it so that no matter what lighting you're in enemies can spot you from any distance. This makes stealth sections really boring and frustrating because the only way to succeed is by silenced pistol, or by following your enemies slowly so you can stab them from behind.

At least the cover mechanics are actually pretty good. You can hide behind walls chest high or taller, go prone if you like but it's kinda **** Most forms of cover won't last long because of how much automatic fire you’ll be under. So at least there’s that to keep the flow going. The three types of combat don’t flow right together, all three of them could have carried a game on their own with some tweaking.

I mean the story itself was enough to carry me through the entire game. I honestly recommend this game for the story alone. No it’s not the best story in gaming, but it's told super well. Now, I did cry while playing this but don’t take this as an extremely sad game, I am just a little **** The story begins with this really nice intro level that does everything a intro level should. It introduces the villains and gets us to hate them in seconds. While simultaneously making the heroes likeable underdogs.

The story just progresses to so much more it really is truly amazing. I would usually go on for hours about this kind of then, but honestly just go play it yourself. It's cheap on disk, while it can be somewhat pricey on downloaded if you see it on sale get it. Now I am Ziah Phillips and stay safe yall.

Old school game, superb "reboot" in my option, the only problem maybie is the longevity (but you have different game modes and collectibles) and maybie too much stealth but you can choose to kill everyone Loud with guns.

I have never play Wolfenstein before even though the game is already 6 year-olds. By the standard of 2020 there are both things that can stand over time and things that are indeed old about the game. The game performs pretty solid on PS4 (slim) with no issues about slow texture loading or frame rate drop like that were addressed in the previous version. The graphic is good, with obviously Doom-vibe but not exactly the same since the game is a little older. The level design is another thing that make this game pretty entertaining. Each environment poses unique situation which require specific strategies. Also the game will encourage you to explore thus that you could have more ammo and certain weapon upgrade. However, I have mixed opinion about the mechanic of the game. While I really like things like sliding or peaking, things like auto-aimming, weapon switching or how the stealth work out can be really frustrated. It is not incorrect for many to claim that this game is Dark Soul of the FPS since you can die repeatedly in some levels or die from silly things like being blocked by NPC. Auto-aiming is another bad things. It will probably impede you from having a good shot right after the enemies are moving (and unfortunately you cannot disable them from the setting, the only way is to switch the difficultly up so that you are on your own). When all these things mix up together, the gameplay is still acceptable. The story of the game is pretty standard. It's like mixing the ridiculous things with some serious stuffs, which they could never blend together but that's what Wolfenstein is and that's great. Overall it's a good game that you should play once if you are really an FPS type. Expand

Honestly the most fun I've ever had in a videogame, only game I have replayed five times and didn't get tired of, the gameplay is fun, the althist scenario also makes me love the game even more as someone who enjoys alternate history. I recommend everyone play this game for themselves.

MachineGames haven’t exactly reinvented the FPS or even Wolfenstein here, but they have put together a consistently enjoyable, well-crafted action game and given you the motivation to blast your way through its stringier bits. If this is the New Order for Wolfenstein, then this is a promising start.

Thanks to the quality in both concept and function, this is one of the finest first-person-shooters I've ever played, and the best iteration of one of gaming's most storied franchises.

We would have preferred a greater freedom of action for the levels, rather than the linear and driven that we've found, but they are trifles for a title that deserves to be played at least once.
