    Never played a Wolfenstein before, but this game was fun. Played it on the hardest difficulty right off the bat, loved every second of it. The action is non stop, story is great, graphics are beautiful as well. Blowing the limbs off of Nazis is one of the most fun things to do in the game. Dual Shotguns!!!! Besides that, probally one the most polished and well put together games that iNever played a Wolfenstein before, but this game was fun. Played it on the hardest difficulty right off the bat, loved every second of it. The action is non stop, story is great, graphics are beautiful as well. Blowing the limbs off of Nazis is one of the most fun things to do in the game. Dual Shotguns!!!! Besides that, probally one the most polished and well put together games that i played on next gen(other than Infamous Second son).     A great experience! The action is brutal, the guns are loud and beefy and the AI doesn't let up. There are some memorable levels and there are a large number of enemy types which require different approaches. The plot is surprisingly engrossing albeit simple. Controls are tight and responsive and pulling the trigger is always satisfying. The stealth elements work well enough but are onlyA great experience! The stealth elements work well enough but are only ever useful for taking out commanders to stop them calling reinforcements. Nine times out of ten the situation will dissolve into a gunfight anyway. You will spend a lot of time scouring the environment and looting the dead for munitions and supplies which can get tedious, although you will go through rounds faster than you can blink so this becomes an essential ritual.

    Regrettably, the sound mixing is absolutely shocking. Imagine you have set your dialogue/music/sound effects levels to the value that you desire... Ok, now when a cutscene is triggered the volume increases by couple of decibels and if there is music in that cutscene then get ready to lose some of your hearing. Whenever music starts playing during a cutscene it is always incredibly loud, so loud in fact that it drowns out the dialogue. It is inadvertently quite comedic when you end up with BJ Blazkowicz muttering dialogue about the horrors of war only to be drowned out by the soundtrack, as if he is some lunatic talking in your ear whilst your are trying to listen to your music on the bus.

    This is not just a great FPS, it's a great game overall.    … Expand

    Outstanding game. Awesome graphics, awesome music and the soundtrack for event is really well done. I've finished the game in 16 hours and I didn't collect all the things to collect. I will for sure play all again with the different storyline and I will collect everything. The story is amazing. Who would have tough about the Nazi in the 60's... It's super fun with the dual handling gunsOutstanding game. Awesome graphics, awesome music and the soundtrack for event is really well done.     I love it ! Story is great, characters are charismatic, music is perfect, attention to details is phenomenal... It's been a long time since I enjoyed a single player game like this. This is definitely not JUST a shooter, and it's worth more than a 78 score !

    The game was built from the ground up to work across next gen AND the previous generation. So be thankful that those who refuse to buy next gen, or simply can't, can actually enjoy the game as well as those of us who own a XOne or PS4.

    This is a solid game. It's fun and has a great story only thing I didn't really care for was the sound effect. Seems like it could have used a little tweaking, but that wasn't a deal breaker.

    First, the story is great. Extremely adult, sensitive topics were dealt with great, and they really make you wanna kill these Nazi sons of Bit@#$ %! I did not expect the story to be so well done and for me to be so engrossed. The music is great, the graphics are amazing for the year this came out on, and I cant wait for more.

    During the beginning of the game you have to make a big choice, and that choice stayed with me the whole game (did i make the right decision) which begs for an extra play through. The game reminded me a bit of bioshock in how it's narrative was played out in first person.

    AlsoI've never played a game that makes each shot feel as impactful as it was in this game. Not since Killzone 2 have I seen enemies react so realistic.

    Things I would improve on:

    Sometimes the game can be too hard. I played on Normal, and sometimes there were parts where I COULD NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME GET PAST so I had to temporarily change the difficulty.. but besides this the game is amazing, I actually played the DLC (I rarely do this) and Im happy I did.

    Don't buy the DLC unless you reallllly want more or are a huge fan or if you find it on sale as it's only about 6-7 hours in length. It's still a really good prequel to set up events for the main game (and it has some easter eggs if you played the new order first) but if you wanna skip it you won't miss much.

    BUY THIS GAME AND SUPPORT LINEAR SINGLE PLAYER GAMES!! :D

    This was a wonderful single player experience. Top notch, great quality. Brought back memories, and made new ones. Music was pretty great as well. Still worth it to pick up if you can find it.

    Gameplay is very solid and it also has a great story. I was REALLY looking forward to advancing just to get to the next story cinematic. The music is insanely good and really enhances the experience. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did -- I'm glad I picked it up :).

    This game has a lot of positives and a lot of negatives so i just thought i would list them all down.

    Graphics: Not going to lie these Graphics do not look next gen this is a game that was quite obviously designed primarily with Last gen in mind the game look really gritty in places.

    Frame Rate: Pretty steady however with the level of Graphics on next gen hardware i would expect a good frame rate.

    Story: Great loved the story it was really interesting at times even if sometimes you may just be a bit confused about what your actions are leading to but overall it's great.

    Characters: Characters are acted amazingly and as a result you find it much more easier to grow an attachment with them and are written amazingly as well.

    AI: Retarded for the most part they are in some parts fine but in others they are just so dumb and below basic expectations.

    Download size: 53GB Download, WTF! i cannot see why this is so big BF4 after about 12 patches and 3 DLC is 51GB and that has Multiplayer i cannot see why this game is so big that means that it takes up more than 10% of my hard drive which means when i need to delete a game this is gonna be one of the top candidates.    … Expand

    A really fun game. There is a bit nostalgia when plying the game. The story, world and the shooting is good and different from the other FPS out threre. Its like playing a good B-splatter movie. I am 5 hours in now and where is my hyper tuned Kar98??????

    I have much more appreciation for this game then the first time I played through it. Clearly the influence the gameplay had on the newest Doom is very visible in the way things develop. It's not as fluid as that game turned out to be, especially since just hip firing seems to be at trait these games have more then any other shooter on the market today. With the sequel literally hours away, and the type of hype it has to make me choose playing that over the newest Mario game and the newest Assassin's Creed game, really speaks to the quality of single-player, story driven shooters that Bethesda can provide. Yes they do provide the occasional miss from time to time but I'm supremely confident that Machine Games came deliver yet another hit for a series for them that we never knew could be this good in the modern age. B.J. certainly has aged well and, from the looks of things, he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Definitely buy and play through this game first before the sequel however. You will know within seconds whether you'll like the sequel or not by playing this one.… Expand

    I played lots of FPS,and this is a very good one !

    Pros: 1.Over 10 hours of the story-driven single player mode is satisfying,and plot choice adds some replay values. 2.Good atmosphere,intriguing characters,nice voice acting,Germans actually speak German. 2.The game-play mechanism is quite fluent. 3.Blood and gore as always. Cons: 1.The graphic is not too great for a 50 GB    I played lots of FPS,and this is a very good one !

    I was excited about this game the moment saw it on steam and was relieved that it was for PC. Wolfenstein runs extremely smooth at full graphics except for the screen tearing at cut scenes. Wish there were more weapon upgrades and you got them throughout the game instead of near the end. The only problem that I have with this amazing game is that it's only 10 - 15 hours long but the gameI was excited about this game the moment saw it on steam and was relieved that it was for PC.     This game is not a 78. This game is more like 92/94. I will now address a few issues (mostly that other people who do not have any understanding or appreciation for the fps genre or who are "professional critics" have). 1.) This game is heavily sci-fi and partway through develops an almost Uncharted-like plot but not nearly as ridiculous as Uncharted 1 or 2 and at least as well written,This game is not a 78. This game is more like 92/94. I will now address a few issues (mostly that other people who do not have any understanding or appreciation for the fps genre or who are "professional critics" have). 1.) This game is heavily sci-fi and partway through develops an almost Uncharted-like plot but not nearly as ridiculous as Uncharted 1 or 2 and at least as well written, if not better. 2.) The fps element is very nice with different sliding mechanics and a good array of weapons (hooray for weapon wheel) along with upgrades found through miniquests and exploration but almost always on the path towards your goal. The only annoying thing is the occasional "idk where i have to be" and when you are set up against heavy enemies without a realization if it is a "run and use environment" or "miniboss" moment. 3.) The AI is a little off on stealth sometimes but they just as often come running on in from places you forgot about compared to looking over a dead body. Mostly, this just puts them on alert because they can't see you. The downside (and upside) is that only commanders can raise the alarm for additional troops so making a normal trooper suspicious has little consequence. However, stealth is useful but hardly necessary or guaranteed - most of the time, stealth is for removing a few nuisances and commanders before graduating to some classic fps horde/defend/boss fights. And as for the loot system, it quickly becomes manageable (by button spamming) and dual wielding is unwieldy but occasionally necessary. 4.) The graphics behaved fine and only once did I have to restart because in the loading to end a level (and save) my ps4 froze and got caught in an endless loading loop but otherwise I was fine. 5.) The environments are very nice, the perfect mixture of corruption, degredation, futurism, and nazism. Particularly, the first mission did a very nice job of making an interactive tutorial. 6.) (OVERALL) My overall impression, granted I have only played just over half the game i believe (chapter 8 or 9), is that this game is fantastic. It is exactly what it attempts to be: a story-driven, action-packed, player-defined thrillride with moderate replay value and severe doses of Nazi and sci-fi elements. This is a step up from the most recent Wolfenstein games and definitely above the recent fps games that have come out. Basically, this game is just a half-notch under Metro: Last Light in terms of the best fps singleplayer since the Bungie Halo games and may even be as good as the first Bioshock by the time I finish it. (Here is my end rant, mostly just venting about the review which I see in my sidebar now) This game is tried and true fps mixed with a little dishonored and doused in Nazis and sci-fi. It's plain awesome. As for Gamer.nl which says, "why not something new", this is new. This is a reboot of a dying but legendary franchise. What is created here is a perfected game. Not one that is overdone and boring, pulling on ridiculous attempted realism/ conspiracies (recent CoDs and BFs) or that attempts to redefine its core values and makes a repetitive, boring, lack of weapon wheel and complete perversion of perfected game mechanics (Bioshock Infinite). This is a pure, fun, story driven fps that I will replay over the summer. It is a game designed to entertain, to enthrall, to bring back the joy of killing Nazis over and over in style, something sorely missed in an age of games attempting to create a plausible future. So buy this game, sit down, and prepare for a game that combines the two greatest possible features in the most perfect way ever achieved. Nazis + Mechs + Weapon wheel + silencers + takedowns + energy weapons + prison breaks + alternate history + THE GERMANS ARE SPEAKING GERMAN (WHAT?!?) == pure awsome… Expand

As far as shooters go this is flawless and I can honestly say I haven't had this much pure fun from a video game in a long, long time. The last time I enjoyed a FPS this much it would've been the first time I played Duke Nukem 3D when it first came out and I've played CODs, BioShocks, MoH and BFPerfect! FPS the way its supposed to be. No fluff and no nonsense, no multiplayer padding. As far as shooters go this is flawless and I can honestly say I haven't had this much pure fun from a video game in a long, long time.     Wolfenstein is a great game, its a breath of fresh air from the battlefield and COD, im not saying its a better than game them but its a refreshing change, Wolfenstein is by no means a bad game, it has a decent enough story, its challenging enough and has alot of trophies to unlock (for trophy hunters like me) - however there is no online mode at all and sometimes it feels a bit flat. 8/10

    I am on the fence with this game. Is it a own it or rent it kind of game? But there is no question, you need to play this game.

    The graphics for this game are above average. The character designs are awesome. The levels are all beautiful and interesting.     I have read a lot of reviews that this is a classic shooter on a next gen system but it works. They are not wrong. You find yourself just settling in quite nicely with the sex, guns and Nazi killing, as the controls are fairly standard which in my opinion is a good thing.

    Those alone make this game an easy 7, but what pushes this game to solid 8 is the fantastic story and characters. While playing this game I wanted Blazkowicz stab all those Nazi !@#$ers, I wanted him to take Anya to pound town and I wanted him to finish his noble quest. It is a testament to any game that has a story that compels you forward. So a solid 8.

Wolfenstein: TNO makes me want to go back and play other titles by the folks currently known as MachineGames (I’m about to start their 360 Riddick game). It’s not perfect but I haven’t had this much fun with a FPS since Halo 1 on Xbox.

    Pros: Fun, challenging    One of the signs of a great game is when you want to play something else by the same developer right after you finish it.     Ok, just finished Wolfenstein: New Order. And by that, I mean I have just finished one of the best story-driven, single-player experiences I HAVE EVER HAD.

    Seriously, the story, characterization and voice acting were second to none... it was like watching an awesome movie and getting to play the best bits. I have rarely ever seen so much attention to detail go into a game where the    Ok, just finished Wolfenstein: New Order. And by that, I mean I have just finished one of the best story-driven, single-player experiences I HAVE EVER HAD.

    Seriously, the story, characterization and voice acting were second to none... it was like watching an awesome movie and getting to play the best bits. I have rarely ever seen so much attention to detail go into a game where the setting and feel are concerned, I believed every single moment of every single chapter, my suspension of disbelief complete. The environments were perfectly rendered, everything just looked and felt right. Whoever wrote and realized this story and script, and created the amazing characters, did so far beyond what I would consider the call of duty (no pun intended) in this kind of game. It was clearly a labour of love.

    Gameplay-wise, it got the balance just right. Sure, the AI had varying degrees of intelligence, and there were a couple of annoying sections, but those were few and far between. The stealth sections actually worked for the most part (although using L3 to take-down and throw knives gave me rage on occasion), and the weapons were ALL genuinely useful and imo perfectly balanced. Best laser ever imo, especially with the later targeting upgrade, it really added another unique dynamic to the gameplay. I didn't egt all the extras or perks, but I was playing just for the story progression, wanting to see what happened next, like a good book.

    Playing on a PS4 is different to what I am used to, but I think I got the hang of it, and I accept that fine aiming and the occasional frustrations will be experienced with an FPS game on a gamepad. Thankfully, that didn't happen too much, the notable exception being the London Monitor boss, the final part of killing him which was tricky due to the sticks.

    Looks-wise, to me as a semi-retired PC gamer the graphics looked great. Of course you lose resolution and anti aliasing, but then you don't need those to enjoy and appreciate a game, they are a luxury that is easy to forget when you get immersed in a game of this quality. The frame rate was buttery smooth throughout, helped I noted by some blurring techniques fading out the detail in a mostly unobtrusive way during certain sections.

    All in all this was an absolutely superlative game, a true AAA title, and a throwback to the glory days when FPS's were big and badass, expect WNO takes the old formulas and adds so many awesome set pieces and visual effects and useful gameplay mechanisms that it's like an evolution of the traditional FPS. Like that the developers of the originals would have done had they access to modern PC and console technology.

    You’re not some forgettable throwaway soldier like you get in most every other first person shooter campaign
    And because of this this campaign immerses you deep inside of its world…
    This isn’t your typical run and gun campaign..
    There’s tons of variety here, missions will have you scaling buildings for targets... going in with stealth, infiltration, and undercover missions…
    You never know what the game is going to throw at you keeping the campaign feeling fresh…
    There are a variety of weapons and enemies to deal with, and the game mixes things up with a laser gun you get to cut through chain and metal in the game, giving you alternate routes inside of rooms and again stopping this game from just feeling constantly run and gun… you’re not forced to shoot here most of the time, as you can just go in missions with stealth taking out everyone from behind…
    but if you do choose to shoot there are plenty of weapon choices and the ability to dual wield guns..
    Enemies drop plenty of ammo... but eventually your laser gun is upgraded and able to shoot with unlimited ammo, though it has to be recharged so you’re not waiting for it to recharge on its own at a painfully slow rate after every couple of shots…
    Combat can feel challenging if you’re not the stealthy type... especially thanks to the scouts that will call for back up if you don’t take them out before you start shooting...
    You do have health that will regenerate slightly... but there are health packs and armor around which seem in abundance at the beginning... but towards the end you’ll be begging for them...
    Mission structure all for the most part feels the same.. You’re given a map which rarely helps... I found myself just stumbling around the map until I found the item I was supposed to interact with...
    Not the greatest natural progression... but I only felt lost a few times throughout my journey to the end..
    I was having a lot of fun with this game thanks to its story and level design... however for me the 2nd half of this game really starts to feel a bit generic and I was ready for this game to be over hours before the final showdown…
    While I do feel the final stretch of the new order is a drag, load times are painfully slow, and the occasional lock picking in this game is the worst and most annoying lock picking in video game history
    The New Order offers a really unique experience worth picking up and seeing out through to its end

    Fantastic! Thats how a FPS should be! Not just simple running around and killing but also a lot of great storytelling. Loved it from start to the end. Plus an extra point for the amazingly good music!

    While not a completely perfect game, the story is the big drawcard here - being both well written    Wolfenstein: The New Order is a game I simply had to return to when I heard about it's sequel, The New Colossus. Giving it a second chance proved to be a good decision as I rediscovered what drew me to it in the first place: It's lack of conventional design in terms of story and gameplay.

    While not a completely perfect game, the story is the big drawcard here - being both well written and compelling, containing elements that explore mature themes which ultimately give the characters depth and nuance that is rarely seen in the genre.

    Because of what The New Order has achieved with it's story and gameplay, I have chosen to continue my journey with this reboot-sequel series of the game that helped pioneer the FPS genre.    … Expand

    This is a great shooter, much better than COD that's for sure. The game-play design does not babysitter like COD does so you have to find your way around and come up with solutions. The idea of Nazi Germany winning war and occupying entire world is awesome, however the plot falls flat. Nevertheless, I have had loads of fun playing it. Recommended :-)

There's loads of things to collect in this game and no useless microtransactions, you unlock bonus modes from enigma codes. The main story is around 12 hours long for me.     This game deserves a better rating than what is being given on some "professional" review sites. This is how a modern FPS should be done. The story is brilliant, so are the characters, and the level design is well thought out with full on freedom to go about how you like.

    Short but sweet! Killing nazis anywhere and everywhere is what this games all about. its a non stop action movie and I enjoyed every minute of it. I really like the characters, I would say that they were all very rememberable. The story was entertaining enough. The game play was top notch and smooth. I had played the Old Blood before New Order, although I enjoyed both I believe NO wasShort but sweet!     Hell of a game! Buyed it now in ps4 sale - and loving the gun- and gameplay. Even aiming is superb with the controller. Story is wolfenstein-alike a bit crazy, but really cool inscinated. Rushed it in 2 days and about ~11 hours playtime, full packed with action and emotions.

    Game Play: the array of futuristic twists on era-appropriate weaponry are impressive. the controls are simple to pick up and will not cause you to accidentally press something you didn't mean to. the shooting is accurate and clean, and enjoyment to play it was similar to a nice -controlling shooter game. Wolfenstein TNO has a many hours of play ( about 8+ hours of play) with it still remaining fresh and not burning out half way through the story and has many collectible and challenges that help extend the play time. Wolfenstein TNO also has awesome replay value.

    Sound: the music keeps the intensity and ambiance going with a nice selection of heavy rock songs and slow mellowed tones during various parts of the mission. the weapon sound and auxiliary sound effects are clear, alerting, detailed and beneficial.

    Graphics: although they aren't incredibility stunning, they are superb and the strength of the ps4 , the accent the shading and variety cf colors are a nice change form the the original palette of the 90's era games.

    Overall: Wolfenstien TNO is a fantastic continuation of the reboot and a excellent addition to the FPS genre and a revitalizing take on a often abused genre. It is a classic in the making and still holds strong to this day. If you are a fan of the series or just looking a FPS to play and pass the time, you will not regret it. 9/10    … Expand

The story is outstanding and has a surprising amount of emotional depth. As it should be, the gunplay is visceral and satisfying, and has a flawed but overall decent stealth system. The alternate-history Nazi Europe is incredibly interesting, and while the game does have its silly moments(mission on the Moon), it still feels relatively grounded and accurate to the 1960s setting. The music, composed by the very talented Mick Gordon, is raw, brutal and energetic, combining synths, guitars and loud percussion. My only complaint would be the length of the story. While by no means a short game(15-20 hrs), I wouldn't recommend this game at full price, but for $40 or under, this is a fantastic experience that never lets up.… Expand

While not as epic as 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein', this game offers a highly playable and interesting campaign. Blazkowicz is severely injured and wakes up in the 1960s, in which the Nazis have won the war and dominate the world! Along with a group of resistance fighters, heAfter a bitterly disappointing episode on the 360/PS3, the Wolfenstein series made a great comeback on the PS4. While not as epic as 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein', this game offers a highly playable and interesting campaign. Nice fluid responsive shooter. The ID engine that built Rage.. thought I recognized it and so proved to be the case. Not a frame dropped!     Level designs and set pieces are great fun, but what makes TNO stand out is a storyline that is appeals to human nature, it is a frightening look at a Nazi run world with racism and extreme nationalistic ideals perverting a world of genocide and the destruction of culture through brute force. It doesn't shy away from showing the trauma or the base urge of characters to let loose with sex and passion - and you probably would if you were living in a realm where being found would result in instant death or scientific experimentation for the rest of your short life.

    TNO succeeds where others fail because it knows exactly what it wants to do, deliver a FPS experience over several tight levels interwoven with a personal, emotionally charged tale. It refuses to allow itself to be distracted by money, dlc and map packs and weapon skins. It knows, when you're done with it, you're done and it does its best to make sure than when you do finish, you remember it forever, for all the right reasons.    … Expand

    The gameplay was great, and I really liked BJ as a protagonist. The story was also well written in my opinion, despite being short.     I've been playing it non-stop the last few days. It is a blast, I wish I bought it when it first came out instead of Watch Dogs or BF4. I think this is pretty easily at worst, the 2nd best retail game released on PS4 thus far. Infamous Second Son is the only other game with rivaled quality at all phases.

    This IS is a finished game. This is how games should be made. No holding back parts of the game until release. Good job developers! I want a sequel.    … Expand

    I haven't been so impressed with an FPS since I played Spec Ops:The Line. Both games have great designs and gamepaly, and brilliant plots. I connected with all of the characters, none felt throw-away, and bought all of the arcs each character went through. I felt alone, outnumbered, and outgunned in every scenario, yet I felt empowered and determined to strategize and take out the army one-by-one. Typically with games, especially FPS, I just want to hurry up to the action, and kill everyone quickly without feeling forced into having to 'plan' (where panning consists of just standing and waiting for people to attack or exploiting set design flaws and ai flaws). With The New Order, I was being flanked from every doorway, ambushed, aggressively stalked by some enemies, while others stayed in cover and took their time. I had to adapt to every level. Conserving ammo, staying near any power source I could find to charge electric weapons, and avoiding staying still for too long for fear of being flanked. It felt like I was actually there, and not just controlling a limited player in a limited level with dumb enemies. I had to outsmart and use the right gun for the right position/enemy. I liked everything about the controls and gameplay, and my only regret is not realising how useful the maps really were, there are clues on every map of where gun upgrades, maps and other useful things are hidden. I found myself exploring levels more and more as the game went on, just to find armour/health and extra ammo. Grenades are a very useful took in this game, and are best saved for armoured enemies.

    This is a full in-depth game. Just the prologue alone took a large amount of time to get through (I initially thought it was the end credits). Levels are quite big and every chapter feels unique, something most fps games fail to achieve, as set designs and repetitious missions tend to blend together.

    I've owned this game for a while, but with the surge of 'must play' games out in recent years it took a low priority, but I now wish I played it sooner, absolutely supersedes any recent fps.    … Expand

    Good game, although it's pretty hard and the PS4 is missing the ability to turn off bob/sway when you walk which is making a lot of people sick due to motion sickness. I would give this game a higher score but they've neglected to add in enough options for people on PS4. PC players should have no trouble turning it off.

    I am having so much fun playing wolf. One of the best single player FPS games! The story is interesting, the characters are lovable, the gameplay is incredible. The guns feel so so good to shoot!! A great and a fresh game that a FPS fan should definitely check out.

So I started to care about them straight away. + The pace of the story is quick. Locations and characters change the moment they get boring. And all the locations are drawn beautifully in the scenes where you enter them and see an overview.
    - Nazi generals are genuinely scary. Cons:
    - The game is too hard at times. Because some enemies are overpowered. At the same time the AI is stupid. So at some point I was killing Nazis from the ventilation because they couldn’t duck to shoot me. - Many things about the main cast of the characters didn’t pay off that much. Like with Max Hass. He’s a nice character. But doesn’t have much to do in the story. - The mission on the Moon was destroyed for me due to the constant necessity to hide and charge my weapons. That was not interesting to play despite the cool setting. - The final boss fight was meh. (As the one with London Monitor too.)
    - In general, it’s a very violent and old school shooter. Also, it has exaggerated simplistic fantasy-like characters. And **** sex sometimes. So it’s much harder to emotionally connect to this game. It’s not Last of Us by any means. More like a wonderfully done violent fan service.    … Expand

    On the upside, Wolfie had interesting characters, and a cool alternate history story, Shame the gunplay put me off continuing with the story. I played up till Chapter 6 on difficulty above normal. Stealth part completed, then got swamped with a bunch of enemies, and had to restart over and over again, repeating the stealth parts again.

    The weapon wheel is so frustrating as when i ran out of ammo during a gunfight or have to switch to a shotgun for close up fights and i press the alternate weapon button(triangle), it gives me a useless pistol or whatever weapon that was automapped. so i still had to use the clumsy weapon wheel mid-battle to switch and OMG is that frustrating.

    So in short, potentially good FPS for me but gunplay broke the game for me, all due to Destiny's superior mechanics.

    Edit: Just finished the game. For some reason, the game grew on me with its fantastic characters, themes, dialogue, story and narrative. It was powerful enough for me to ignore the poor aspects of the game's mechanics and power on through. I stopped comparing it to Destiny so that helped. Despite having a cliche Nazi story, this game really is a beautiful journey about love and sacrifice. I felt oddly sad when it ended cos half the time i was screaming at the horrible controls and frustrating gameplay but, kudos to the writers, they got me! Will be playing The Old Blood now, and MachineGames have turned me into a fan, well done! Advice to those not so good with FPS like me, play on easy or normal, that should make the game less frustrating.    … Expand

    This game is one of the best first person shooters i have played ever. the game has many modern mechanics that added a lot of depth. The game also has an old school layout, level design and feel. It is a great combination of many classic shooters and some of the best modern shooters.

With all the new FPS being futuristic or Modern warfare, I forgot how fun it was to kill a bunch of racist Nazis. (But what I heard, the PC Version looks so much better) And the story is... well... dull.

    The story goes like this:
    In an alternative universe Dr.Deathhead created these futuristic like technology that gave Nazis the advantage to win the war, Therefore the Nazis win the war. This idea is very fresh and interesting to keep me going but here comes the stupidity. You play as J.G Blakovich, An Ex War Veteran who during in a battle, skull was hit by shrapnel. Blakovich could not move anymore as he was taken to Portugal to stay at an Asylum for now on. 13 years went by and Blakovich could move again due to a Nazi attack at the Asylum. What happens there? Its for you to find out. Now, It sounds cool and all but you will figure out that the story is bland and cliché at times and some characters can make no sense on why they exist. And the ending... Its so bad. I don't want to give out any spoilers but when you see the ending you will understand what I mean. Overall, if you are looking for an FPS That's fun throughout, buy this game.    … Expand

    Let's start out on a good note and explain why this game is at least an 8 out of 10. The game is gorgeous. The design and use of colors is brilliant. You'd think fighting black clad Nazis in across a grey concrete city would be visually unappealing. Maybe it would except the developers make excellent use of color form the red lights of enemy robots, to the orange glow of firearms, and the innate color of the many, many objects that fill in the world with unbelievable detail. NPCs in the game are also quite colorful, not only in hue but also in personality. Set pieces rival and perhaps surpass anything from Call of Duty. (Moving vertically through a wrecked train was my personal favorite.) The cutscenes and interactive (non-shooting) portions of the game are also well done. Don't let the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions fool you; the PS4 version looks like a true current gen title.

    The story is also well done. What could have been a bleak and hopeless alternative timeline of worldwide Nazi domination is instead a story of hope against impossible odds. The story is not perfect, and we see several tropes including the player character often falling unconscious and suffering capture and torture by the enemy. Seriously, I have no greater pet peeve than seeing the player character defeated by a scripted event and then humiliated in an unplayable cut scene. Fortunately, the story brings in some very bizarre and curious sci-fi elements such as secret Jewish science and moon bases. The game is worth playing for the story alone.

    Now let's get negative and discuss those 2 points that should have made Wolfenstein a perfect 10. The health and armor mechanics in Wolfenstein are a purposefully archaic throwback to the original 1992 release of Wolfenstein 3D. As a concession to modern gaming, your health will regenerate up to 20%. Otherwise, the only way to prevent death is to constantly pick up armor and health packs in the environment. The problem with this old fashioned scheme is that the player never feels emboldened to progress forward until they have scoured every nook and cranny of the environment for every health and armor pick-up. To keep the player moving, the game world has to present copious amounts of health and armor pickups at predetermined checkpoints. You know a boss battle is coming if a hallway is filled with armor. Considering a second playthrough, I audibly grown at the prospect of having to search every level again for health and armor. As someone who played the original Wolfenstein in 1992, and then played through the evolution of first person shooters, including the groundbreaking Halo series, I would rather ditch the nostalgia and move the genre forward.

    The gun play in the game is solid if not limited by the lack of scopes on most of the weapons. The game really wants you to play it as a corridor shooter, where shotguns and hip fire reign supreme. However, most of the beautiful set pieces are best played using guns to their full advantage, i.e. shooting enemies at a distance. The tendency of enemies to come from all directions also favors cover and shoot style gameplay, and I was a little disappointed by how effective I could be crouching behind one doorway and obliterating dozens of Nazis. I do give the game credit for not spamming grenades at the player. Games that encourage use of cover are disingenuous when they have every enemies lob grenades every time you crouch behind a crate.

    The gunplay in destiny is further denigrated by the accuracy of enemies. You will take damage if you are out in the open. You will take damage if you pop your head out of cover. You will take damage in a full sprint jumping off ledges and dodging behind cover. One of my big complaints of Half-Life 2 was the spamming of automatic fire by enemies. While you were supposed to cleverly manipulate objects with your gravity gun, a half dozen drones were shooting you dead with hundreds of bullets. Half-Life 2 was released over 10 years ago and since then, modern games have done better. Smarter a.i. that will lose track of the player and even better, miss the player every now and then. The spray and play happy a.i. exacerbates the archaic health and armor pickups and lack of scoped weapons.

    If Wolfenstein: The New Order ever receives a sequel, they should move the gameplay into the modern times and make the 1992 health and armor system an optional way to play.    … Expand

    I had a blast playing this game! I traded in an over hyped new release for this and I have no regrets. The story line was the main reason for me. But then all the action and fighting really kept me playing. All the bad ass knife kills. I mean who doesn't want to kill a bunch of nazi's. Some scenes were quite confronting but it all went with the story line. Nothing felt like it was putI had a blast playing this game! And yes you can notice how much detail was put into this game. With all those newspaper pages scattered everywhere, collectibles, deciphering enigma codes, and finding clues in game how to decipher them. These small things adds up to the game like a good spicing to great steak, or a good wash to a car, or a nicely mawed lawn or (you got the idea).

    The story! Finally the fps that is mainly story oriented. It was like they made the story first, then designed all of the levels, enemies etc, according to it. Just the way games were done some time ago, and not focusing entirely on specs of the hardware, trying to squeeze those last drops, just so they would try to shove some sort of pseudo-important visual features (like people weren't able to enjoy games that looked like **** 10 years ago). So basically whole game rotates around the story, and while it's quite predictable, it is still making you fell like you;re not just shooting waves of enemies just so the game would deliver that minimal amount of time for you to spend to reach the apogee. The caracters are great, there is a lot of dialogue, everything seems quite well paced, but not exactly perfect for my taste. But I guess that had to be done for the story.

    So yeah You're shooting nazis, I a nicely looking game, that feel like great shooter (up with the likes of BF4), and has a story, and full of collectibles, even stealth, and bosses! I mean what else could you ask for?

    I give it 9, because there were few small things that needed to be done differently for me(not for everyone) to get 10. I Do recommend, if you are the kind of player who used to play cod and medal of honor, and then stopped (just like I did) after cod mw2. I think I have missed cus, I have been distracted will al that publicity of other sh**y games advertisement. Mind you I haven't played any of the hyped games of 2014, and feel proud of myself :D    … Expand

    Really fun game with a great story. Gun game play is solid and varied. The stealth game play is also a present surprise. My only gripe against it is that it's kind of short and leaves you wanting more. The hardest difficulty can provide a decent challenge but nothing impossible. Worth a rent at least for the quality of the game.

Also, despite what others have said, I thought the ending was spot on in fulfilling the themes and narrative arc while leaving open a sequel possibility. Very to the point. (But I'll describe no spoilers here.) They did a good job with the game. It's a way more interesting campaign than most others of the same genre. It doesn't really look next gen. In an era where most games are pushing multiplayer, Wolfenstein double-downed on the single-player delivering an engaging story with a host of characters. Granted, not all characters are memorable, but the story is delivered in a way that is compelling enough to warrant a replay.

    Graphically, the game is good. It is not going to blow you away, but the visuals do a fine job. From a difficulty standpoint, Wolfenstein is not very difficult for experienced shooter players. On uber difficulty there are a couple challenging battles towards the end of the game, but overall nothing that is frustrating.

    Overall, Wolfenstein: The New Order is going to provide a fun experience with a good story. One major drawback for some is probably going to be the lack of additional game modes for a full price game. If you are worried about that, wait for a price drop or sale.     I'm so glad I didn't skip this one. A truly amazing classic FPS experience, it really made me feel nostalgic, and not in a forced way. The story and the world is very interesting, I just wish that somehow we could explore more of it

    Certainly one of the best shooters to be released in some time. Most definitely one of the top-5 PS4 games released regardless of genre (as of July '14). Incredible game, and a definite recommendation.

    Pro: Story, graphics and action are satisfying. I liked how the game shows the character during cut scenes and not just a 1 or 2 times during the whole game.

    the wolfenstein franchise has come a long way, some of us will probable remember the first time we played wolfenstein 3d, whether it was on windows, mac, dos, or on the consoles, most of us will remember playing it at some point in the 90s, or hearing of the controversy, even the people whos parents forbid them from buying the game, the still bought it in secret behind their parents backthe wolfenstein franchise has come a long way, some of us will probable remember the first time we played wolfenstein 3d, whether it was on windows, mac, dos, or on the consoles, most of us will remember playing it at some point in the 90s, or hearing of the controversy, even the people whos parents forbid them from buying the game, the still bought it in secret behind their parents back and played it at night secretly while their parents were asleep, point is we all know wolfenstein, the latest game, the new order, is currently a bestseller here in the uk at the moment, and i think i know why, i have the game for ps4, and i was really looking forward to playing it, and it was certainly worth the wait! the graphics of the game are absolutely gorgeous (at least on ps4) the combat mechanics are rock solid, the control is smooth and the layout of the controls are good as well, i have only one complaint about this game, there is no mini map, meaning it can be difficult to see where you need to go, but hey, wolfenstein 3d didnt have a mini map, did it? speaking of which, the game is full of references to the original game, for example, eating dog food to regain health, and the difficulty select screen is just so nostalgic, i recommend that you check it out, the level design is fantastic, and there are lots of other things in the game to keep you occupied, the game is challenging though, if you play on uber difficulty, get ready to lock and load!

    overall i would highly recommend this game to anyone, whether it be on current gen or next gen, wolfenstein 3d is one of the ps4s strongest titles, probably not as iconic as wolfenstein 3d, but who cares?? when you can mow down a line of 8 bionic suit wearing nazis, with dual wield model 1960s or take down a crazed nazi officer in front of his lover, nothing really matters    … Expand

    This game is a fun FPS, with great gameplay and great story telling I highly recommend this to any and all FPS fans. Only real problem with the game would be it's a short game with no additional features such as online play or DLC.

    I am stuck between an 8 and 9 but since i upped alot of reviews that been 8.5 and so on in the past i feel this game is rock solid 8 at elast if not a 9. To be fair i dont like the scoring system. But a good game , that is long , perhaps a bit to long, good enemy variety, decent amoung of weapons, the stealth works.     Before I start this review, I'd like to point out that I bought the "occupied edition" of the game and will be reviewing that. However I do have one major grievance with it, as despite being advertised on the front of the box, the doom beta code did not work for me, this may be because I didn't pre-order however on the terms and conditions, pre-ordering is not mentioned, so anyone buying solely for that will be upset. Onto the game, the game is surprisingly good, doing the resistance three thing of both combining the good aspects of old FPS, with new FPS very effectively, there's some regenerating health but this only goes so far and you'll have to rely on med-packs and armour otherwise, also the game has a very nice map design, with exploration rewarded with hidden goodies. Also there is some decent re-playability too, both with going over the levels with a fine-tooth comb looking for the enigma codes and gold trinkets you missed, not to mention the extra game modes said enigma codes unlock and the choice you make in-game to keep one character alive or not, though admittedly it's re-playability is hardly ground-breaking.
    As for the action, you should be pleased to know that the action is as meaty and explosive as a sausage roll made by the Taliban, with your character BJ (yes I know, haha) being able to dual wield shotguns each firing different bullet types into crowds of Nazi mecha-soldiers, alternatively you can go sneaky sneaky with a silenced pistol and lethal take-downs including drowning Nazis in their own piss and when that eventually fails going back to shooting like a madman, all of which is very very fun. The game also has a surprisingly deep (for a shooter) alternate history back story which you can find out about through letters, recordings and newspapers and gladly isn't forced down our throat MGS style. Speaking of story, well it's pretty standard really, Nazis are bad, kill them in various different cool environments, though that's not to say the story is bland or boring, it certainly can be charming at times, though the best part of it is the characters, your character may be a muscled all-American patriot meat-head but at the same time he is still a flawed character (in the good way I mean) in the sense that he is tired of it all and has next to nothing left, also he gets called out on his senseless patriotism by another character later, so though there are some tropes prevalent that doesn't stop both the characters from shining. Of course the bad guys are also fantastically evil, even for Nazis these guys manage to be **** sinister. All in all a solid game, even if the game feels a tad stumpy, the scenes contrived and the beta code a bit buggy,that doesn't stop the fact that killing Nazis has never been more fun, I would very much like more shooters like this to come out.    … Expand

    The story is a bit trashy (but come on it's the Wolfenstein franchise) but well told in great cinematics. The acting and voices are great, especially the Nazis who speak an accent free german (and some even with regional german accents - that's just excellent). The fact that the germans mostly speak german as native germans speak throughout the game and every member of the resistance speaks with a foreign english accent depending on where they come from makes it very authentic and adds a lot to the great atmosphere the game creates!

    Overall I really enjoyed the game and there is hardly anything negative I can think about!
    Compared to Killzone which is the only other real Shooter I have played on the PS4 so far Wolfenstein the new Order is the better game. Maybe not for the graphics but for the overall atmosphere and fun you get with the game!    … Expand

    Good fun game, really nicely told story. Some of the game mechanics are a bit frustrating, like not really feeling when you are getting shot, so you seem to die all of a sudden, and being able to just sort of run around avoiding enemies with no problem. Still, a fun game.

There is an exciting upgrade system that is achieved by accomplishing various mini missions that lure you to try out new things that you might not have thought off.

    Wolfenstein: The New Order has a solid plot that remains interesting through out its 15-20 hour game play. The characters are well developed with good writing and voice acting. There is no multiplayer in this game; however, the pleasing story elements and joyous game play highly compensates for this.Wolfenstein is a game that will entertain you from start to finish and i highly recommend it.    … Expand

    A great single player experience, this game is awesome my only problems are some missions lost me on the story and the knife system in game can be broken. I do like the setting though a futuristic WW2 is something new and old. Its theme is a little more mature in nature and it has some very dark political undertones in the story, but that actually pushed me to continue playing this game to the story's conclusion.     Very well thought out and executed. The people who are rating this low must be extremely jaded gamers. For the vast majority I expect this will rank up in their top 10 FPS's. It's probably in my top 10 of any genre in fact.

    Wolfenstein has great gun play, separating itself from the average shooter with not only amazing mechanics with its core game being perfect. The atmosphere of being in a post world war where the opposing side has one. Really makes you think and contemplate the pure evil of the Nazi Party.

Obviously it's better than call of duty and battlefield. It is. It is the funnest first person shooter I have ever played. The only first person shooter that may beat this is Far Cry, and I've never played far cry. The story in this game is surprisingly good for a first person shooter. Many parts in this game are unrealistic as you survive insane encounters. This game is also very well known for it's gore, so if you don't like gore, I suggest you skip some of the cut scenes. Don't avoid the game because you don't like gore. I don't like gore either, but I played it because it is that good. Now as far as graphics go, they are great during cut scenes but complete **** during the game. They're not unbearable, but unacceptable for a recent title. The game is also surprisingly long. I've never played a first person shooter that was this long. I believe it took me 12 to 17 hours to beat the game. It's not as easy as your standard first person shooter either. None of that Call of Duty **** It's not that bad though, thanks to the five different difficulties that are included that have hilarious titles to them. All of the characters are original and feel somewhat real. Gameplay is as smooth as anything and the terror that you feel when you are in a Nazi prison is incredible. It definitely brings out the fear and depression that you would really feel if you were being infiltrated by Nazis. Another warning for parents and children, there are two sex scenes that don't show a lot, but can be skipped like any other cut scene. There is also a very gory torture scene where a man is dissected. This can also be skipped. Other than that, it's fine. This is a great game, and I feel for anyone who hasn't got the opportunity to play it yet.… Expand

    Really good game. Would recommend this to everyone something new in the crowded genre of fps. The collectables are really fun to collect in this game and cracking the enigma codes are fun to crack aswell. Easy trophies also on the ps4

    One of the most exciting and thrilling FPS games I've in a while. BJ is back to kill some Nazis. Story was nothing special, but I like the what if scenario with the Nazis. Fun gameplay makes this one thrive.

    MachineGames haven’t exactly reinvented the FPS or even Wolfenstein here, but they have put together a consistently enjoyable, well-crafted action game and given you the motivation to blast your way through its stringier bits. If this is the New Order for Wolfenstein, then this is a promising start.
