    Fantastic graphics and music with a few gameplay mechanics and great characters. I had lots of fun in the first part of the story, while at some point I was just hoping to see the end.
    The menu is terrible, the RPGs elements aren't deep and the combat is ripetitive, so when the story went on I got bored.     Incredible game. The graphics, although they were 8-bit, expressed a lot, and the unique battle system was just genius!
    I love the tutorial character a lot, he really explained a lot and wasn’t nightmare fuel at all! ;)
    I don’t like the naming (only 6 characters!) the non mutable music can get annoying at times too. Otherwise, this was really good for an 11 dollar game! Favorite    Incredible game. The graphics, although they were 8-bit, expressed a lot, and the unique battle system was just genius!

    This game is absolutley AWESOME! The Story, The Soundtrack, The Gameplay Heck, even the Boss fights are absolutley amazing. 10/10 you HAVE to play it!

The gameplay is fun and the combat system allows you to spare or fight your enemies, modifing the outcome of your ending. The story is amazing and the characters never feel boring or unlikely. The soundtrack is catchy and moving. What more can I say? A 10/10 game indeed.… Expand

    This game is fantastic. Perfect music,a bit of humuor, incredible characters, etc. Maybe the story isnt very elaborated but it is an extremely enjoyable game and very fun. Would love a second version of the game or a extended one,

    I played this because it featured as a top 10 or top 20 on the PS4 Metacritic.com all-time. If I'm ever asked what I think the most over-rated PS4 game ever is, this probably takes it. The trophy achievements were intentionally stupid and the game itself, although seemingly deep with lots of paths is just a slog. I've played other RPG games of this aesthetic, and this one was just notI played this because it featured as a top 10 or top 20 on the PS4 Metacritic.com all-time.     And some will find the visuals charming in a throwback way that relives the golden age of the Japanese developed RPG in the 90's or something. To others they're just kind of ... eh. My advice is to avoid this one.    … Expand

    A charming and adorable story. Gameplay is surprisingly addictive and I love how the game subtly adjusts to your decisions. Soundtrack is killed and old-school graphics carry a lot of charm anyways.

    Undertale is a pile of balls. Especially if you attempt to do a pacifist route. Literally no way to move fast enough or keep up with the barrage of bullets. Music is jumping though.

    Sinceramente y pese a que le duela a más de uno... me ha aburrido bastante. Lo he acabado por completar y quitármelo de la cabeza. Valoro la originalidad, los distintos caminos, tal y que cual... pero no lo podían traducir, al menos? Tela.

    Amo esse jogo. Marcou a minha infância.
    Nunca consegui passar da undyne no modo genocida. É um jogo muito desafiador e marcante.
    Até hoje escuto as soundtracks desse jogo, ele deve ter as melhores músicas do que qualquer outro jogo que eu já tenha jogado.

It also is way more intelligent than it has any right to be and many of the subversions work exceptionally well. It's a variety show that keeps you hooked with the presentation and personality.     No complaints here. Love this game. It's funny, the music goes hard af, the characters are lovable, the gameplay is simple but it works. It's a very meta game. It knows what you did and when you did it. And if you decide to be an **** and kill someone it guilt trips you very hard. Also the final boss fight in the genocide route, sheeeeeeeeesh.

    i play video games for 30+ years now but i never played such an overhyped game. easily bottom 20.

    the game is half hearted designed, the art is horrible, the characters are depthless, the story is completely predictable and it is just a pain to play.
    the only pros are the music and the fresh combat design. but that doesn't save the game from being bad.

    don't get the hype...

    Is Undertale for everyone? No, no it's not. Undertale has some of the most memorable, most well written characters and a killer soundtrack. It's an interesting commentary on how games are played, specifically RPGs, where monsters are no more than experience fodder. The gameplay is pretty good, with turn-based commands being warped and twisted in numerous ways. It is definitely worth takingIs Undertale for everyone? No, no it's not.     no puede ser que mas de 10 años despues la version de ps4 no tenga traduccion al español, si lo descargo en LATAM viene en un ingles , en verdad es un juego buenisimo, pero una lastima por que al final me tuve que bajar una version en PC pirata, gratis y en español. FAIL para esta version de ps4 ( facilmente puedo haber tenido un 10 pero lo dejo ne 2 , por que el español es una lenguano puede ser que mas de 10 años despues la version de ps4 no tenga traduccion al español, si lo descargo en LATAM viene en un ingles , en verdad es un juego buenisimo, pero una lastima por que al final me tuve que bajar una version en PC pirata, gratis y en español. Best rpg ever introduces unique mechanics with many endings based on who you killed who you spared and how many you killed with the all-time greatest boss and ending I cry every time Frisk hugs Asriel and says goodbye. If you know how to you can start a pacifist or genocide run with neutral being the easiest. (Please start with that) The Asriel Dreemur fight alone is worth 20 $… Expand

    A timeless masterpiece. So many amazing characters and moments. 3 distinct and different play throughs with unique encounters in all of them. Combat is funny and different to a normal JRPG. Amazing soundtrack as well.

I'm always impressed by the complexity the story can have depending on how you decide to play. Also, given that this was made by one dude, it's insanely impressive.     Playing this game was a solid experience. I adore the music and the retro style. Every character is written with care and love. The unpredictable nature of Undertale in conjuction with its humour, greatly enhcanced the experience. My only complaint is that enemy encounters felt a bit lackluster.

    It was great fun for about 2-3 hours, where I really enjoyed exploring the world, characters and everything. However it slowly turned into annoying battles, money grinding and looking into online guides how to defeat tougher enemies way too often (I was playing "true pacifist" way as I didn't want to kill anyone). I kept playing until I got the platinum trophy (~7 hours) and then justIt was great fun for about 2-3 hours, where I really enjoyed exploring the world, characters and everything. However it slowly turned into annoying battles, money grinding and looking into online guides how to defeat tougher enemies way too often (I was playing "true pacifist" way as I didn't want to kill anyone). I kept playing until I got the platinum trophy (~7 hours) and then just deleted the game without seeing any of the endings as the gameplay and dialogs started to be irritating.… Expand

    The gameplay can be slow at times, but this game has the best story I have ever seen in a game. I've literally never seen a game with a better story than this one. Also the music is great since Toby Fox is an amazing composer. Playing this game is definitely worth your time, especially for only $15.

    Undertale boasts an amazing collection of OSTS and a very memorable set of characters. It's a short game that captured me every step of the way. It's definitely one of the most unique games that I've played in a while, with its high moments being one of the best moments in my gaming experience.

    Plot is the best a game can reach. The characters are easy to get attached to. The jokes are on queue and the endings have a great touch. Perfect game by far. People are stupid to give it lousy reviews and the people who do better go back to playing fortnite for all I care.

    One of the best RPGs of the decade! It had a Fun dialogue, amazing character development. The only negative part of the game is how short it is but other than that It deserves a 10/10.

    Me gusta el planteamiento del juego, ser cabroncete, trollear por la mínima, está muy bien planteado, sobre todo en temas de narración, pero a veces me daba la sensación de que se hacía algo pedante de más, como de snob, porque hacerse el gracioso está bien, pero no sé si tanto.
    Hay combates bastante jodidos, que son necesarios, pero hay algunos que se hacen hiper pesados de más, y para    Me gusta el planteamiento del juego, ser cabroncete, trollear por la mínima, está muy bien planteado, sobre todo en temas de narración, pero a veces me daba la sensación de que se hacía algo pedante de más, como de snob, porque hacerse el gracioso está bien, pero no sé si tanto.
    Hay combates bastante jodidos, que son necesarios, pero hay algunos que se hacen hiper pesados de más, y para mí, interrumpen demasiado el ritmo del juego.
    El factor RPG, Pokémon, de tocarte las narices todo el rato, muy bien hecho, el juego es un tremendo hijo de puta vaya.
    El final se puede hacer algo confuso, no me pega demasiado, es algo absurdo, me parece que no está a la altura del resto del juego.

I'll say that you can't really go in blind since most people doing that will probably not know that you absolutely MUST do the pacifist route to get by FAR the best ending.
    As for the PS4 version: it's by far the easiest platinum I've ever gotten.    Beautiful story, nothing quite like it. About to do my second play through. Fantastic soundtrack too.     This is not 1992, we have games like persona 5 now. If you are going to make a stripped down 2d game that's fine, but let's review them for what they are today compared to what else is out today. Why review something like you are living 25 years ago?
    This game plays and looks like something out of 1992, in any other genre a game that looked this bad would get a 2 as well, so here you go.

    I didn't realise how controversial Undertale was until I looked up reviews after playing it. Undertale frequently appears on top 10 lists of games you must play, so 5 years late to the game I decided to take the plunge.

    If I was to sum up UT, it would be that it is quite innovative and quite irritating. I like that it thinks outside the box but it lacks consistent execution.     UT's graphics are part of a niche in modern games that like to use retro graphics. For the purposes of the game, these graphics serve pretty well. I like the retro feel and the graphics lend themselves well to the gameplay style and humour. The downside of retro graphics is that repetition can set in quickly. UT tries to navigate this with a variety of environments with mixed success. It's saving grace is probably that it's a relatively short game although I still felt it outstayed its welcome.

    The story of UT is where things become very interesting. The premise is essentially escaping an elaborate dungeon, but there are tons of eccentric and quirky characters along the way. The problem with this is that when everyone is a bit bonkers the humour and wit wear thin fairly quickly. There are parts of the game where you are constantly pestered with irrelevant monologues that started to irritate me rather interest me. The prevalence of quirky characters comes across as trying too hard, like stepping into a hipster cafe where everyone tries so hard to look different but ends up looking the same because they're all so obscure.

    The gameplay of UT is where I found myself most interested. Rather than a typical turn-based approach, I liked the interactivity of moving the heart to avoid attacks. Again however, this became very irritating towards the end to the point that I didn't even finish the final two bosses as their attacks were just too cheap.

    In addition to the above, UT prides itself on the alternate methods of engaging enemies, some of which can avoid battle altogether. The problem with this is you likely need a walkthrough in order to achieve non-combative play-throughs, or at least that's what I needed. In hindsight, i found the game much more enjoyable when I gave up on pacifism and just fought through everything like a normal RPG. I think that speaks volumes in itself, or just shows my own preference for violence and simplicity. Either way, this innovative approach to battle was just a bit too esoteric for my liking.

    Overall, I find Undertale falls somewhere between innovative and pretentious. What shocked me more than anything was discovering the animosity between people discussing the game, What this means is that you really need to play the game for yourself and I am glad to finally know that it's just not for me. I got it on sale for lie £7 and I don't think it was really worth that much, so look out for a price drop if you want to try it, and avoid reading what anyone else says about it until you've tried it.    … Expand

    Mediocre and over-rated game, but I would recommend it if you can get it cheap (under $5).
    Pros:
    -fun quirky story
    -doesn't take itself too seriously
    -awesome music
    Cons:
    -very short, its over before you know it
    -"combat" system, or lack there-of
    Pick it up for cheap if you want to finish it in a day, but I can think of a lot of games I'd rather play over this

    The music on the surface has a 90's SNES flair, but with a more built feel. Like remastered SNES music. After you finish the game, you could hear the tracks again and immediately feel the emotions again. The music can be fun and silly, epic and powerful, and even sad or somber.
    The graphics and UI are very reminiscent of Earthbound. The pixel art is deliberately dated looking, but passionately conceptualized.
    This game is not your mainstream RPG and it's not your dad's RPG. However it can appeal to all kinds of gamers. The hardcore crowd looking for over the top action won't find that here. This game can get intense, but it is by no means an "action" game.
    It's hard to put into words how unique and lovable this game is, but I recommend it to anyone. Try it for sure, but just know that the further you play, the more you realize what is REALLY going on here. I I guarantee you would love it as much as I have!
    Don't listen to these negative reviewers. They only followed the hype and it sounds like they did not understand what this was at all. It sounds like they just went in for combat and not using any of the nuances to progress. They were looking for something that they expected and didn't get. They are hating it for the game's intended features. Like going to an Italian restaurant when you hate tomato sauce.

    On the positive side, there are some very funny elements to the story and characters. I enjoy the way the battles work - very new and creative. I like the way you can do more than just constantly fight - you can talk to your opponents and even do a fully passive run if desired. The soundtrack is also really good.     Negatives for me were that it was very linear. I'm not someone who loves massive open worlds, but this all felt a bit too constricted compared to a classic like Earthbound. There was rarely any point revisiting previous areas so it just felt like you're just on one long slog to the end. I also found a lot of the puzzles quite easy which is a shame, as the concepts were good. The levelling and weapon/armour/money systems are very restrictive. Again - I wouldn't want them to be too overboard in a game like this, but they were so simplistic it hardly felt like they matter.

    Overall I'm happy I bought it and spent ~6 hours playing through, but it's certainly not one that will go down as anything more than average.    … Expand

    This might be one of the most overrated games of this decade. The retro graphics are neat I guess and the trick with the different ending is cool, but the characters are annoying and gameplay is meh.

    The way the Genocide Route is handled is stupid and undermines its own point. Sure, in theory, you have a choice with regard to which route you want to take, but if you don't do it the way you're supposed to do it, have fun playing a game so mind-numbingly dull and tedious that by the time you get to any of the story chunks, you're so worn out that it barely makes an impact on you. Have fun with a shorter, less rewarding, less fulfilling campaign. And to top it off, you're permanently stuck in a game mode in which you're no longer able to achieve the Pacifist Route.

    Gee, you think we got the point, Toby?

    Look, I get it, the game is trying to punish you for doing the wrong thing. But that's stupid. Why punish the player for trying to get the most out of your game, in the game that usually rewards you for exploring every nook and cranny of its world? Imagine if in Pokémon, you fill out the Pokédex, and you're arrested for animal cruelty and have to spend the rest of the game in jail. That's kind of what this is like. It's incredibly pretentious. Does Toby Fox have that little confidence in himself as a writer that he doesn't think the weight of your actions is punishment enough?

    So yeah, two great games modes + one that sucks = 2/3 = 66.6%, round up to 7, and we get my score for the game.    … Expand

    Beautiful and inspiring. Suitable for oldgamers. Mixed gameplay between jrpg and bullet hell. Of incredible creativity. Charismatic, cute characters. One of the few cases of games that when you turn off you miss everyone you met there. Mindblowing as it progresses. Great experience!

Full of unique and interesting characters who are complimented by hilarious dialogue; the story draws you in, allowing you to move beyond the 16 bitAs someone who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s I absolutely adored Undertale. Styled and influenced mainly by 1989’s JRPG Mother, Undertale takes you on a fun, funny, bizarre and at times challenging adventure through a monster filled underworld. Full of unique and interesting characters who are complimented by hilarious dialogue; the story draws you in, allowing you to move beyond the 16 bit style graphics and lose yourself in your imagination.
    The art style is basic but very deliberately basic as a love letter to the golden era of gaming and classic role playing games.
    The world is nostalgic and fun to explore. The combat system is unique and fun. You can either fight enemies or choose to spare them by engaging in witty dialog. When you are attacked you must control a heart (representing your soul) through a series of bullet hell, platforming, dodging senarios which get more and more insane as the game progresses.
    Boss fights stand out as the most interesting and challenging parts of the game. These include battling against Doggos, Giant spiders, skeletons, Ghosts, killer robots and heroic warriors. Boss fights are made even more awesome by the fantastic individual boss theme that plays during battle. The music is simply amazing in the game and will stay with you long after you’ve completed the game.
    The soundtrack adds to the depth of the game and conveys sadness, joy, fun and adventure, enhancing each scenario it is used for.
    The game is around 8 hours long which leaves you wanting more, this encourages further play-trough’s to get alternative endings.

    Ammetto che la prima ora circa di gameplay non mi coinvolse: trovavo le musiche delle Rovine ripetitive e fastidiose, con delle meccaniche di combattimento interessanti ma poco sfruttate.

    Poi iniziai a progredire durante il gioco.

    Mano a mano che proseguivo, iniziavo ad imbattermi in personaggi sempre più interessanti e ben caratterizzati, ambientazioni meraviglianti dalla meraviglia accresciuta proprio dalla risoluzione grafica che Fox ha attribuito al gioco. Iniziai ad apprezzare una comicità arguta, una colonna sonora a dir poco armoniosa, Compreso tutto, credo che nell'istante immediatamente precedente al "finale", ovvero subito dopo la bossfight alla fine delle Hotland, avrei dato a questo gioco un 7.5, forse un 8, in quanto era stata un esperienza di gioco piacevole, con combattimenti ardui ed ingegnosi. Ma solo dopo, dopo avere terminato la trama, dopo il mio primo playtrough, toccai con mano l'effettivo potenziale di questo gioco, portante una massima di vita estremamente positiva e quantomai veritiera: le nostre azioni, anche se videogiochi estremamente violenti dove avvengono stragi e carneficine per mano di noi giocatori senza che nessuno batta un ciglio, hanno delle conseguenze.
    Il fatto che sia possibile ottenere molteplici finali in base al nostro comportamento nei confronti degli NPC, ai quali dopo numerose partite ci si affezionerà in un modo assolutamente unico, è stupefacentemente coinvolgente.
    Non scendo minimamente nei dettagli per fare in modo da non rovinare a nessuno questo Must-Play, dico solamente che vale tutti i soldi spesi per acquistarlo non solo per il gioco in sé, ma per l'infinito potenziale speculativo che sta dietro alla trama principale su alcuni temi: teorie, personaggi enigmatici, eventi non ben specificati...
    Non fatevi ingannare dalla morbosità del fandom di questo gioco, compratelo, e vi migliorerà la vita.    … Expand

    Despite the fact that Undertale didn't tick all my boxes, it was still an enjoyable game. Its visuals and music brought to mind some of my most cherished memories from my formative years, and are top-notch even for games that try to evoke that retro vibe. Its narrative is tongue-in-cheek and consistantly sends surprises the player's way. The game excels at asking players to enjoy it in ways that are incongruous with the traditional way RPGs are designed. Unfortunately, those looking for a more traditional experience may feel short-changed here. The lion's share of the game's character, lore, and emotional impact is experienced by challenging yourself to play the entire game in a completely different fashion.
