    This game is the manifestation of INDIE OVER-HYPE. It's a nice throw back to older JRPG's with some weird old Atari style gameplay. I'd give it a higher score, but it's given so much extra credit for things that really aren't that innovative really blasted my expectations high only to play a good but AVERAGE RPG.     What a joke...so it actually surpassed Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Nier, Nioh etc.??

    Boy! What an underwhelming and boring amateur load of crap; game looks like like a great game for the atari 2600 and plays like a glorified mini game. And the writing seems taken straight out of a Teletubbys episode or something. Not even that sad about wasting the money. But very upset because the hype was through the roof!

    OTOH Maybe it's aimed and understood exclusively by millennials.

    Maybe it was everyone pressuring me to play the game, maybe it was the fact the game doesn't want you to kill enemies, or maybe it's the art and or story, but for some reason I didn't like this game, I just didn't have fun for the 4 hours I invested into the game, maybe I'm just not the audience this game is catering towards, but it definitely felt that way.

    Best ps4 game for 2017? Are you freaking kidding me? Totally lost my faith in game reviews. Games like these should be hyped by users, not critics. I still can't believe my eyes ((

    I was very disappointed by the PS4 port. I know it's made in RPG Maker and runs in 20fps. That's fine. But why did they have to compress the audio so it sounds like ****. The music is perhaps the best element in this game and it's ruined by horrible lossy compression (It sounds great on PC). PS4 Port sucks, if you really want it, get it on PC instead.

    Okay...I'm just surprised to see this game on ps4 because, in all honesty, this game is just overhyped to extreme levels and really, the only appeal of this game is the fan service for the creator and that's it: the characters have personalities of a cardboard and killing someone by mistake is just a long streak of guilt trip, which is the cheapest and most heartless way to make someoneOkay...I'm just surprised to see this game on ps4 because, in all honesty, this game is just overhyped to extreme levels and really, the only appeal of this game is the fan service for the creator and that's it: the characters have personalities of a cardboard and killing someone by mistake is just a long streak of guilt trip, which is the cheapest and most heartless way to make someone feel bad.     With that said, I expected this version to give more in terms of content: the original game is very short, clocking only around 6-7 hours unless you go for the other routes, but for what I've seen, it's the same exact game that you had on pc...so why would you buy it again if not for wasting money? Even a laptop could run this thing so the only reason I could recommend this game on ps4, it's because you don't own a computer!

    On top of that you could potentially get it cheaper on steam during sales, and while it's not expensive, the steam version is 5 bucks cheaper than the psn version. Again why bother?

    I really can't say much because this version is quite literally the same as the pc version, and the same **** there is applied here.. so yeah, just read pc reviews. I might be lazy but hey, so is this port!

    And one more thing: if anyone really praises this game "because you killing is unnecessary" **** that everyone praise this game about...go play Deus Ex or the Thief games (or Dishonored too).
    Nuff said.

    I was expecting this release because i didn't play it on pc. I can say that for me this game was a big disappointment, yes the music is good, and the combat is sometimes fun, but the game was extremely boring and annoying, also, i was expecting an incredible story, but no. At least, the are some good characters, but only that.

    Random Encounters. If you don't like random encounters you will hate this game. I don't like random encounters....I hate random encounters. I hate repetitive, never ending random encounters. So I find this game unplayable, because I'm always doing random encounters.
    Oh and I think you'd have to hate comedy in order to think this game is funny. it isn't.

    Undertale is one of those over-rated Indie games like Five Nights At Freddy’s. The game is very bland and was made with RPG Maker! Undertale has only story going for it and offers no gameplay whatsoever.

I'll just say that making "satirical" 2D games in 2010s must have become the most profitable business right now.     Personally, I didn't enjoy Undertale. I found its humor not intelligent, not even honest and chill, but only try-hardish as hell. But I understand how some people might enjoy it. It's not a bad game/comedy artwork. My only critique is against the head-giving.    … Expand

    I do not know how awful game like this is so popular. The whole time I played this thing, the only point I found positive was the soundtrack, but the rest is so bland. The combat system is crap and weird. The characters are annoying and their jokes make me facepalm because they are so stupid!

    But I ignored it at first, because from the comments I saw in the community the rest of the game seemed to be incredible, but it's all the same crap.

    If you like innovative RPGs , this game isn't for you
    The story is okay , the gameplay is something fresh but too repetitive and boring with time.
    The retro theme was a great idea , the music is really well made ; but thats pretty much it. nothing more or less that makes from it a mediocre game if you like rpgs.

    This is not 1992, we have games like persona 5 now. If you are going to make a stripped down 2d game that's fine, but let's review them for what they are today compared to what else is out today. Why review something like you are living 25 years ago?
    This game plays and looks like something out of 1992, in any other genre a game that looked this bad would get a 2 as well, so here you go.

    It was great fun for about 2-3 hours, where I really enjoyed exploring the world, characters and everything. However it slowly turned into annoying battles, money grinding and looking into online guides how to defeat tougher enemies way too often (I was playing "true pacifist" way as I didn't want to kill anyone). I kept playing until I got the platinum trophy (~7 hours) and then justIt was great fun for about 2-3 hours, where I really enjoyed exploring the world, characters and everything. However it slowly turned into annoying battles, money grinding and looking into online guides how to defeat tougher enemies way too often (I was playing "true pacifist" way as I didn't want to kill anyone). I kept playing until I got the platinum trophy (~7 hours) and then just deleted the game without seeing any of the endings as the gameplay and dialogs started to be irritating.… Expand

    I played this because it featured as a top 10 or top 20 on the PS4 Metacritic.com all-time. If I'm ever asked what I think the most over-rated PS4 game ever is, this probably takes it. The trophy achievements were intentionally stupid and the game itself, although seemingly deep with lots of paths is just a slog. I've played other RPG games of this aesthetic, and this one was just notI played this because it featured as a top 10 or top 20 on the PS4 Metacritic.com all-time. If I'm ever asked what I think the most over-rated PS4 game ever is, this probably takes it. I've played other RPG games of this aesthetic, and this one was just not for me. It might appeal to an 8 yr old in some way as kids don't have the same standards, but, seriously, how is this so well regarded it blows my mind.

    And some will find the visuals charming in a throwback way that relives the golden age of the Japanese developed RPG in the 90's or something. To others they're just kind of ... eh. My advice is to avoid this one.    … Expand

    no puede ser que mas de 10 años despues la version de ps4 no tenga traduccion al español, si lo descargo en LATAM viene en un ingles , en verdad es un juego buenisimo, pero una lastima por que al final me tuve que bajar una version en PC pirata, gratis y en español. FAIL para esta version de ps4 ( facilmente puedo haber tenido un 10 pero lo dejo ne 2 , por que el español es una lenguano puede ser que mas de 10 años despues la version de ps4 no tenga traduccion al español, si lo descargo en LATAM viene en un ingles , en verdad es un juego buenisimo, pero una lastima por que al final me tuve que bajar una version en PC pirata, gratis y en español.     Undertale is a pile of balls. Especially if you attempt to do a pacifist route. Literally no way to move fast enough or keep up with the barrage of bullets. Music is jumping though.

    i play video games for 30+ years now but i never played such an overhyped game. easily bottom 20.

    the game is half hearted designed, the art is horrible, the characters are depthless, the story is completely predictable and it is just a pain to play.
    the only pros are the music and the fresh combat design. but that doesn't save the game from being bad.

    don't get the hype...

    Despite the fact that Undertale didn't tick all my boxes, it was still an enjoyable game. Its visuals and music brought to mind some of my most cherished memories from my formative years, and are top-notch even for games that try to evoke that retro vibe. Its narrative is tongue-in-cheek and consistantly sends surprises the player's way. The game excels at asking players to enjoy it in ways that are incongruous with the traditional way RPGs are designed. Unfortunately, those looking for a more traditional experience may feel short-changed here. The lion's share of the game's character, lore, and emotional impact is experienced by challenging yourself to play the entire game in a completely different fashion.
