Oct 12, 2015Platinum never ceases to amaze me, and thankfully Transformers: Devastation continues to prove why Platinum Games is the best action genre developer in the business today.
-
Oct 20, 2015Otherwise, Transformers: Devastation is a pure form of fun and entertainment, and there are simply not enough games like this out there.
-
Oct 28, 2015Transformers Devastation is a loving homage to its '80s cartoon source material that features the slick and satisfying combat we've come to expect from PlatinumGames. Shame it's so bloody short, though.
-
Oct 13, 2015Platinum Games doesn't disappoint and delivers a wild action game that Transformers fans will love, even with the limitations.
-
Oct 12, 2015A peerless piece of fanservice wrapped around a pretty enjoyable brawler, and the developers' love of the subject matter shines through as brightly as the sun.
-
Oct 12, 2015Transformers: Devastation is the game most Transformers fans have been waiting their entire lives for.
-
Oct 9, 2015Transformers Devastation is a fantastic love letter to G1 Transformers fans, and a great game in its own right.
-
Power UnlimitedDec 10, 2015Not the best game Platinum ever made but definitely the most true to the series a Transformers game has ever gotten. A relief after the Michael Bay crap of yesteryear. [dec. 2015 / page 063]
-
Games Master UKDec 1, 2015A delirious Saturday-morning romp through the Decepticon forces. [Dec 2015, p.83]
-
Mar 14, 2016Transformers Devastation is the definition of a fan-service game. An excellent combat system layered over sights and sounds that take children of the '80s back to their youth creates a memorable experience for Transformers fans. The only sad thing is that it never really goes deeper than that.
-
Dec 17, 2015Fantastic looking brawler made by a team that understands the source material and the fans.
-
Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaDec 15, 2015Don't let your natural wariness of licensed games steer you clear, because there's more than meets the eye here. [Christmas 2015, p75]
-
Dec 8, 2015This is unquestionably the best Transformers game ever, a game to satisfy a yearning fanbase, a game instantly accessible for any non-affiliate who simply wants a good hack ‘n’ slash, and a sufficient platform on which to build a series.
-
Play UKNov 15, 2015An excellent game that manages to make up for its lack of content with great mechanics and superb presentation, Devastation is Platinum doing what Platinum does best. [Issue#263, p.62]
-
Edge MagazineNov 7, 2015Enemies hit like trucks - and not just the ones that ARE trucks. [Dec 2015, p.114]
-
Oct 20, 2015Transformers Devastation is a surprising third person/action game from Platinum Games, with a fun gameplay mechanics and great graphics. The main story is only 5 or 6 hours long, but there’s plenty to discover and collect through the game and the 50 challenges.
-
Oct 19, 2015Transformers: Devastation is by far and away the best video game interpretation of this most beloved of franchises and a timely reminder (if one was needed), of just how good Platinum Games are when it comes to fast-paced action games.
-
Oct 16, 2015Transformers Devastation is a great action game marred by a few design hiccups.
-
Oct 15, 2015Ever since the days of the PlayStation 2, when a bunch of Transformers were placed in a washed-out open world, we've been waiting for a good Transformer title...Now, fans finally have one.
-
Oct 15, 2015A real treat for fans of the first generation of Transformers, but also a pretty exciting hack and slash for every fan of this genre. Transformers: Devastation is the best thing that could happen to this iconic brand.
-
Oct 13, 2015It won't last long, but it's still a full Platinum Games experience, filled with fast paced and strategic combat sessions that you will deeply enjoy.
-
Oct 13, 2015Fast-paced and fun, Transformers Devastation captures the spirit of the TV series with its impressive, fluid combat and range of devastating Autobot moves. Shame the campaign is a bit on the short side.
-
Oct 12, 2015How much you get from Transformers: Devastation will depend entirely on how fondly you remember the original cartoon. Non-fans will find an competent, if short, beat ’em up which is perhaps a little over priced, but die hard fans will be yelping, punching the air and reliving their childhoods by transforming in to a semi truck and chasing Ravage as he pounces across Cybertron.
-
Oct 10, 2015Transformers Devastation is exactly what can we expect from one Transformers game in the hands of Platinum Games. Frantic, fun and nostalgic.
-
Oct 10, 2015Transformers Devastation is a blast to play while it lasts, and expertly blends elements of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising, but packages it in a way that makes it come off as completely unique.
-
Oct 9, 2015Transformers Devastation is a great example of how to take a licensed property and turn it into a quality title. While the game is a little on the short side, it's strong from start to finish.
-
Oct 7, 2015No game yet has quite captured the look and feel of the only real Transformers experience quite like Devastation. The fact they added a brilliantly entertaining combat system and an engaging bit of looting on top is a very welcome surprise.
-
Oct 7, 2015Devastation takes some of the best pieces of Bayonetta and throws them in a package you can feel unadulteratedly good about while also producing the best Transformers game yet.
-
Oct 6, 2015The best Transformers game so far but, more importantly, a hugely entertaining and original action game that is one of the most uniquely entertaining releases of the year.
-
Oct 20, 2015Transformers: Devastation is a fun, frantic and deep action game which hits all the right notes but never stand out with anything other than its excellent combat system.
-
Oct 14, 2015Short and sweet, Transformers: Devastation wears its nostalgia proudly and has plenty of charm packed into those few hours of high-energy action. But it might be worth a wait to scope it out when it goes on sale, instead of paying full price.
-
Oct 14, 2015Transformers: Devastation is the best that the genre has given recently and it's a game clearly by Platinum Games. However, the game is perceived a bit short and it's never an expensive production. The cel shading aesthetic works and you remember the TV series of 80s. It features the quick fights and the vehicles you want.
-
Nov 29, 2015Transformers Devastation’s nostalgia-fueled fisticuffs are a fun way to revisit the classic TV show.
-
Oct 27, 2015It is action-packed however, and combined with the amount of 80’s Transformers fanfare added in, it’s a decent experience for anyone who still remembers Soundwave as a retro cassette tape deck.
-
Oct 19, 2015Transformers Devastation is lots of fun for every Autobots lover that wants to lead good old Optimus Prime and friends against the evil Decepticons, through many and well designed combats with a deep fighting system. Unfortunately, the game features poorly designed levels and a weak story that is not going to make you want to play it again once you'll get to the ending credits.
-
Oct 13, 2015Devastation is a lot of fun, even if it's a short experience. Fans of the Transformers Brand will be happy with this game.
-
Oct 8, 2015If you’re a big Transformers fan, then that $50 price tag should be a no-brainer; just don’t expect a good story out of it.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKNov 16, 2015Finally, a Transformers game where the characters look like plastic toys. While limited, this is no mere cash-in. [Dec 2015, p.85]
-
Oct 22, 2015Transformers Devastation is a good game that shows respect and love for the original Transformers. Developer Platinum Games has found the right look and feel, but it does forget to add variety to this game. The gameplay mechanics could have been more thought through as well.
-
Oct 16, 2015With a stunning graphic style and an impressive combat system, Platinum Games take on the Transformers license is a must for Transformers fans. In some ways it is apparent that the development time has been limited, but that does not prevent Transformers Devastation from being the best Transformers game yet.
-
Oct 15, 2015PlatinumGames combines its successful action-based gameplay with the old cartoon. It will make you nostalgic, but there is no time to stay in the moment as there are a lot of quick and dynamic fights coming your way. The game has some repetition issues and some technical faults, but other than that it is a nice little tribute to Transformers.
-
Oct 14, 2015Transformers: Devastation fails to fire on all cylinders, as the game is too short, and boasts a small choice of characters to play as.
-
Oct 14, 2015A fine, if somewhat short and repetitive Transformers game that feels authentic in every possible way.
-
Oct 13, 2015It’s not devastating, just disappointing for what it appeared to be and what it could have been.
-
Oct 12, 2015This is Bayonetta dressed up in robot clothes, which is a Very Good Thing. Brilliantly playable, and full of Transformers fan-service, only its brevity and simplistic level design let it down.
-
Oct 8, 2015So, I'm happy Transformers Devastation exists and thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with it, but it's not quite the game I imagined as an idealistic child. For one, it's not based on the original animated movie complete with soundtrack. And secondly, it's four hours long.
-
Oct 7, 2015Transformers Devastation is short, lacks depth, and can be a bit repetitive, but Platinum’s tight combat paired with the old-school aesthetics keeps it fun. It may not be the dream Transformers game that some imagined, but it’s worth a play, perhaps after it goes on sale.
-
Oct 27, 2015Revives the visual style of a cartoon aimed at ten-year-olds.
-
Oct 8, 2015Transformers Devastation succeeds as fan service by shoving the things it does poorly far enough into the periphery they’re hard to see while pretending to be a robot punching other robots.
-
Oct 19, 2015This isn't a passive action game, because if the player pays attention, the opportunities to prove him or herself are abundant.

-
Dec 8, 2015All this simplicity and repetition fits perfectly with PlatinumGames’ aesthetic. While the overt Transformers nostalgia factor is right there in your face, there is a more subtle homage going on beneath the surface.
