Platinum never ceases to amaze me, and thankfully Transformers: Devastation continues to prove why Platinum Games is the best action genre developer in the business today.

Transformers Devastation is a fantastic love letter to G1 Transformers fans, and a great game in its own right.

Transformers Devastation is a great example of how to take a licensed property and turn it into a quality title. While the game is a little on the short side, it's strong from start to finish.

This is unquestionably the best Transformers game ever, a game to satisfy a yearning fanbase, a game instantly accessible for any non-affiliate who simply wants a good hack ‘n’ slash, and a sufficient platform on which to build a series.

Transformers: Devastation is the best that the genre has given recently and it's a game clearly by Platinum Games. However, the game is perceived a bit short and it's never an expensive production. The cel shading aesthetic works and you remember the TV series of 80s. It features the quick fights and the vehicles you want.

Finally, a Transformers game where the characters look like plastic toys. While limited, this is no mere cash-in. [Dec 2015, p.85]

This isn't a passive action game, because if the player pays attention, the opportunities to prove him or herself are abundant.

If there's one thing I didn't like about the game, it's that it all takes place in the same area, for the most part, and doesn't add much variety to level designs. Of course, that never deterred me from enjoying myself with the game. ...And maybe playing a bit of KISS songs during the epic parts. If you're a fan of G1 Transformers, there's no doubt you'll enjoy this game. Also... did I mention the original cast reprise their roles in the game? Expand

I have never played a TransformersI absolutely adored the G1 Transformers animated series, 80's movie, and most importantly the toy line. I have never played a Transformers game that really not only did the concept justice but also brought back the nostalgia of my childhood. That is until now. This game is an absolute blast! Not only are the cell-shaded graphics absolutely stunning, but the gameplay is so much fun. A bit on the short side but theres so much to unlock that the replay value is much higher than most AAA games out there. It's also a great treasure that they were able to get the voice actors so well known for Optimus Prime and Megatron. The sound, music, voicing, and graphics are all a 10/10. Buy this game! Expand

Switches up the fighting with some other crappy things like platforming and vertical shooting but doesn't matter be caused the fighting is so freaking awesome. Still not a AAA game and has lots of B game jank including a bad camera. Soundtrack is killer. Things are significantly different with different weapons and characters. All the classic G1 characters and lore makes me want to explode with happiness. Too many brawlers are ridiculously difficult these days and this one hits the curve perfect. Definitely top 10 game of the year. Expand

However, it still remains a must buy for fans of brawlers and Transformers.

The sense of scale is done right, even down to buildings and cars being the right size next to the car mode, to looking small and insignificant in bot mode.

The combat is extremely satisfying, especially when you start 'mastering' the short list of combos and knowing exactly when to add the finishing car mode hit. Fighting against the main bosses is pure delight.

The visuals in the game are the cherry on top, and will really speak to fans of the G1 series.

In short, if Activision was already committed to making a sequel if the game sells well with a 7 hour playthrough, and improved environments, I would recommend an immediate buy to anyone who likes videogames. Platinum games could reuse the same engine, and all the current animations, they're that good.

The sad truth is, even if the game sells extremely well, don't expect anything but a cookie cutter sequel. It is for that reason alone that non-transformers fans should wait for the game to go on sale for 30$ before buying, or if you were on the fence and were waiting for reviews. People who made up their minds that it was a day one purchase won't be disappointed at least, and will have a lot of fun with the game.

It brings the style of the og cartoon with platinum's great combat and combos who knew finishers with turning to the vehicle forms could be so cool. Its a solid typical transformers story with some great boss fights and great ost. A few of the playable characters like gridlock can be a bit weird and once you get it down it can be a bit easy on final sections but its still surprisingly good. There's a really great final boss sequence with the back and forth quotes optimus vs megatron its just classic. Expand

    * Even on lowest difficulty this game has many enemies that still cause huge damage to you quite easily which is a unacceptable
*Very short, only 11 chapters and only the difficulties prolong the game.
*The game has a lot of build up for the Nova Prime character, but you never get to encounter him in the game.
