Tom Clancy's The Division was a game with a lot of expectations, but achieved little. The story had a lot of potential, however, it is very badly told, and became disappointing. Overall, The Division is a normal game, is not innovative, is not a remarkable game and neither is a game of the year, the multiplayer is what saves this game, The Division is a disappointment, to which may be the disappointment of the year, Ubisoft did not yield what it promised. 6/10 Expand

Everyone is comparing this game to Destiny but should really be comparing it to Diablo 3. It's basically Diablo 3 with guns and minus any semblance of creativity or imagination. Maybe that's your thing? If not, too bad because you won't find any here. If you are new to duck and cover shooters, you are going to have a bad time since the tutorial is severely lacking. This game is very stat oriented, to the point that if you don't have blue+ gear, you are going to have a bad time. In fact, you are probably going to be forced to group to finished every mission and every mission is the same.

The game gives the illusion of choice with stacking stats and three different ability trees but there is only one stat that matters, firearms (dps) and one ability (healing) that matters. Everything else is pure garbage compared to these.

Right now there is no end game, except doing daily missions of the same again and again. The Dark Zone is a joke too. It's the same as everywhere else in the game except the enemies are even tankier, and other players can shoot at you. At low levels pvp like this is fun but at high levels the penalties for going 'rogue' take the fun out of it for very long. There are not pure pvp arenas either.

I gave this game a 1 because it managed to run on my PS4 without crashing, which is me being generous. Don't waste your money on this game.

It got a way better looting system, farm, wider range of weapon of choice. They alimented the PvP element, but did a good fine job with cooperate

The only good thing is it is very popularized game at the moment

    Pro:
Very populated game for at least 2-3 months

Good Coop system (but not the actual play, Army of Two by EA is a way better 3rd Person shooter.)

a must for Any mmorpg players (Destiny, Diablo)

    Cons:
Only few missions, you could finish all of it on 1st night.

fooling graphic (we know the E3 demo)

    Too repetitive.

Little Variety of Enemies So Far

Worst PvP system I've ever seen (You will never get a fair fight in DZ)

The dark zone is ridiculously fun, it's pvp or pve, the choice is yours. But I would not recommend going rogue, because the reward for the risk you're taking is abysmall. - AI usually not very smart, to the point where it is silly.
    - Rogue system doesn't seem very thought-out.

    - Apparently, quite a lot of stuff was cut or reduced. They said the character creating would be VERY expansive and deep. It isn't, it was rather disappointing and feels phoned in. There are tons of cosmetic items to loot, but I'd have prefered a better creator

Just the sheer size of the map is incredible and even though the action is pretty straight forward, exploration is encouraged and rewarded. graphics are good to excellent and the voice acting is good, even makes you laugh every now and then. stop with the dumb comments about bullet sponges too - of course, the developers did that intentionally to make the class have some actual relevance... the different roles (tech, med, security) all come in to play during big battles. How can gamers can possibly give this game a low ratings when it has all the elements we've been asking for? Is there room for improvement, of course. The missions can get redundant and there is definitely a "grinding" feel to it after awhile (I'm only a 22 so I haven't seen the end game but I get it when people use that criticism). To be fair the game is probably a solid 8.5 or 9 but these low reviews are just dumb and so I'm going 10 here. Expand

It also didn't sit well with me that there is clearly additional content that they didn't release with the game that is coming about a month after the original release, but the more I play, the more I understand why they're timing the free release of some DLC.

I am at least a solid 100 hours into the game and see no reason why I will be stopping any time soon. At its core, the actual gameplay is fun, and the heaviness/feel of the character is good. Both the PVE and PVP systems are engaging. I've even hit a point where a little material grinding is necessary to continue my progression but I don't mind it because it is in an ever-changing dark zone where I have to continually be alert. The developers seem to be very tuned in to the community and the first major patch about two weeks after release fixed some serious issues with the dark zone which was a godsend and the right thing to do -- which also gives me hope that these devs are willing to admit where they made mistakes and continue molding the game to be the most fun experience. You can't upgrade your character -too- quickly, and stat min/max'ing will keep the hardcore players busy for hundreds of hours.

Is the game perfect? No. Is the game a 10/10? Yes.

It can get better ofc but it feels interesting and i find my self coming back for it. The extracted space in the base stash could be bigger though but i think it will be patched sooner or later.

Leveling in The Division is very enjoyable. Apocalyptic New York City has been lovingly crafted in fine detail and really sets the stage for the story. The story itself is simply OK - it's not the greatest but it's not bad either. The gunplay is well doneand the six weapon types all feel distinct and meaningful. There is a lot of fun to be had running around in a small group, switching roles based on talents. Even the Dark Zone (more on this in a moment) is a blast while leveling, as it's separated into level brackets to keep things even and (more or less) fair.

There are problems that hold back the basic leveling side of the game. The side-missions and resource encounter missions are extremely repetitive and you will be doing the exact same things in each zone. Elite and veteran NPC mobs and bosses are bullet sponges. The game is riddled with texture bugs including falling through the world, guns that sometimes randomly float above or beside teammates, grenades that don't display an animation or make a sound, occasional invisible items that can lock you in place, and enemies that don't fully appear on screen until you're directly on top of them. Friendly AI is dumb as a box of rocks and never shuts up. Of course, the game ALSO suffers the Ubisoft Syndrome, which is to say the map is littered with hundreds of collectibles.

    On end-game: Score - 2
Once you reach 30 and have gotten full superior-level gear (an easy feat to achieve), the wheels fall off the bus.

If you want to progress in any meaningful fashion after max level, you need Phoenix Credits, Dark Zone credits and High-End crafting materials, including high-end Division Tech materials. The means to obtain these items are extremely limited and, as such, "end-game" is extremely barebones.

The Dark Zone (DZ) is a set of PvEvP hybrid zones where players can kill enemy AI or engage in rogue PVP and kill other players. The first six zones are separated by DZ rank (from ranks 1 to 30) and the final two zones are for "high end" DZ rank (ranks 31-50+). It's an interesting concept in theory but in practice it's horrible.

The loot the NPC mobs drop in the DZ simply is not all that rewarding until you get to the final two tiers. This means grinding 30 DZ levels just to get into the higher two tiers where you might have a better-than-zero chance of finding high-end gear. Likewise, the best crafted items from the DZ are gated behind DZ rank 50 blueprints. The DZ is just a zone to grind in, meandering around killing for DZ rank until you reach 50 when you can finally buy decent 'rewards'. The problem with this is that your progress can be completely stopped by rogue PVP agents because, when you are killed for ANY reason in the DZ, you *lose* experience, credits, and chest keys. You also lose any loot you've picked up but not yet extracted out of the DZ. I would be fine with this risk/reward scenario if the devs hadn't made recent changes to the game that reduces the penalty for going rogue, essentially promoting griefers and gankers. If you weren't DZ rank 50 before the most recent patch, good luck getting there.

This isn't the only change they've made that makes DZ a pointless slog. They've nerfed the frequency of NPC bosses in the DZ and severely nerfed the amount of Phoenix Credits you can obtain from bosses. After this latest patch, although not listed in the notes, it has become rare to find high-end level division tech crafting materials, which are needed for ALL of the DZ blueprints.

Put simply, the DZ is another a grindfest with extremely nerfed drop rates, except this grind also includes players who are given the green light to be jerks, making ranking up more annoying if not outright impossible.

That leaves the end-game PVE dailies. With only four total challenge modes and two daily hard modes earning enough to buy weapons and blueprints from the vendors at the Base of Operations is atrocious. Bear in mind that challenge modes require a competent team with decent gear and can take anywhere from 30 mins. to 3+ hours depending on the mission. Unless you have the time and friends required to spend all day grinding challenge modes, progress will be painfully slow.

After obtaining a few high-end items, I've already become tired of the grind. It is, IMO, arguably worse than vanilla Destiny at launch (and I'm certainly no Destiny fanboy, check out my scathing reviews for Destiny here). At least vanilla Destiny offered many more scaled up end game strikes, a split between PVE and PVP gear paths, dedicated PVP, an initial raid with raid gear, and public events. Back in 2014, I compared that to other pseudo-MMOs and called Destiny's offerings barebones. Sadly, The Division has set a new bar for barebones end-game. Given how enjoyable the 1-30 leveling path was, I'm deeply disappointed in the state of The Division's end game.

    All things considered: 6.0

How weather conditions have a REAL impact on the gameplay. How an enemy getting hit in the nose with the butt of your gun reacts. These are the things that are simply missing from other titles like Destiny.

There is a certain element of grinding after hitting level 30. Dark Zone is the most innovative PVP arena to date, but in order to excel, you really, truly, have to grind. RNG and frankly, non-intuitive weapon perks make this process frustrating at times, where a high end weapon can be either "just ok" or "absolute beast" depending on the roll of dice.

On the other hand, that's what makes you go back to killing bosses time and time again.

If these reviews would include the community, I would have to deduct a point. There are some real **** playing this game: particularly, kicking people from the party in Challenging missions right after killing the boss. If these COD-kids would leave the grieving to the Dark Zone, this game would be top-notch enjoyment.

In the first hours I just loved it, but after 30 hours, I have to say that it is really repetitive. The secondary missions are always the same. Even the main missions are just about shooting enemies (and those are always the same ones), nothing else.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that they're beautiful, the guns all feel the same.
The gunfights are still very satisfying though.

Let's talk about the multiplayer section, The Darkzone. Again, it's a good concept but after a few fun hours you understand there's nothing to do in it.
But, do no forget that you can play the whole game in coop.

So to resume, the game has potential, but needs more content to become a real must-have.

At last a fun and immersive multiplayer and/or solo game i was looking for. I really enjoy the balance between the rpg content, the huge map, the easy access (i'm not a cod or battleground specialist where you get killed or you kill every 15 seconds without any real strategy), graphics are cool and i enjoy playing and switching from solo to multiplayer. I was skeptical after the disapointing assassin's creed but here Ubi Soft clearly are back with the right gaming recipe. Expand

Far, far, FAR stronger than Destiny at launch. However, The Division suffers from a lot of the same problems that Destiny both originally suffered, and continued to suffer after the (much improved) Taken King DLC.

Starting with positives, gun customization and mods give looting a huge dimension to expand upon. The third person shooting is completely solid, and the cover system will feel very familiar to any Gears of War veterans. Perks and talents can be adapted to suit any style of play, rather than a black or white, pick this or pick this, kind of class system which is excellent. Not to mention, the world is absolutely gorgeous and, whether you love the game or not, you will spend hours invested in this broken New York City.

Now for the negatives. Though the world is brilliant, the "story" involved in the game is fairly laughable. It might seem interesting at first, but if you can tell me one characters name by the end then I will be impressed. PvP is unbelievably punishing, and it makes me wonder why it wasn't just included in the regular game, as it would justify the 'always online' requirements as well as leave the Dark Zone open for ACTUAL PvP. Bosses are bullet sponges with absolutely no variety, and a thoroughly underwhelming final boss. Lastly, character customization is hilariously shallow, considering the effort put into the gun customization.

I was going to give this game an 8/10, but the end game content as well as the disappointing Dark Zone pulled the score down to a low 7, lucky not to be a 6.

This game is very cool It fixed many of the problems destiny had my only small complaint is that becoming rouge in the dark zone is not really worth it so it kinda takes away the the whole pvp part but the game is still very fun and I look forward to becoming lvl 30 would rate a 9.5 but I am leaning towards a ten!

I waited out a lot to write something about this game and i can say that my enthusiasm hasn't really payed off. The endgame is really lacking and the only reliable way to get gear right now is crafting, which makes replaying missions useless. At the moment i can't say that i am looking forward to anything the game has to offer. I will probably be back for incursions, but i will do them once or twice and i will be done. Unless they have some interesting mechanics, which are otherwise lacking in the campaign and dark zone.
The dark zone is where the division is at its most worst in my opinion. Unless you want to craft things, there is 0 need for you to extract. I heard that the new patch increased the rogue percentage but it's just not enough for me since most of the time the items i get are too boring to extract, and that's what i usually get with 185 scavenging. I had only one yellow drop that wasn't even an upgrade to the vendor stuff. Not even in terms of armor or any other stat that isn't a talent.
The gameplay is solid but it is severly lacking. There's no variety to anything, since the actives are just that, only actives, and don't require much skill to deploy. The guns are somewhat different and they feel different, which is the only nice thing i can say about the gameplay.
If you are expecting interesting missions, well, all i can say is that the game is just horde mode. The last boss has some kind of a mechanic (if you pay attention to the dialogues) but can easily be ignored and shot through without any problem.
What is the most unfortunate thing for me is that i bought the season pass, but i already feel like this is the last game i'm going to play because it is nothing more then a deception and it is so boring it got me bored of gaming in general, and i'm not even salty when i'm saying this.
Although i cannot say that they failed anything, not even the dark zone is really that bad, it is just boring, which is different from complete failure, this game just doesn't seem to be engaging enough for me to keep playing it. The lack of dropped loot and the lack of boss mechanics really kill it for me.

My experience in the division so far has been fun and addicting. Im 23 hours into the game and not even close to finishing. The graphics are beautiful, the loot glorious, and the player to player interaction engaging. The only problem i have is slight mission repetition on side mission but other than this its worth every penny.

It won't win converts to the genre and the plot is problematic, but The Division is a handsome open-world offering, spiked with treachery. [May 2016, p.81]

That's the essential nature, and essential problem, of The Division's underlying structure. It's asking you to hunt gear with no tangible reward in terms of what you can do, how you do it, or what you look like doing it. [May 2016, p.108]

It builds a strong foundation on the gameplay front, offering up rewarding combat and simple skills, but doesn’t follow that with anything substantial, being content to let the standard end game grind and excellent-yet-stressful PVP try to cover all the questions its writing leaves you with.
