I'm normally a big fan of this kind of games but I just didn't get used to Witcher 3. I tried it a couple times! I really want to like this game, but I can't! I get bored all the time and that's why I can't give it a good score.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Boring as **** It starts off really slow and when the world does open up you are stuck in an endless loop of fetch quests and some of the worst combat ever. The side quests which this game gets praised so much for are nothing special. They are all the same, requiring you to gather an item or kill some thing. I wonder why a game like Assassin's Creed 3 did not get praised as much as this even though it had meaningful, story-driven, well written side quests in 2012? Why didn't that game get similar critical acclaim? Its combat system and characters are also a million times better.

Another big problem I have with this game is the Witcher Senses mechanic (another way to say "Detective Mode"). This is basically same as the detective mode you find in Arkham games. But unlike those games where that mode is meaningful and helps locate enemies when you are surrounded by dozens of them and do not want to get spotted, the Witcher 3's Witcher senses serve no purpose. They are mainly used in those 'murder mystery' solving like scenarios where you walk around with the mode and everything is highlighted. You go up to the highlighted item or location and click a button and you do the same until the trail ends. I get no satisfaction out of this type of gameplay. I'm not solving any mystery. I'm just pushing buttons at the place where the game wants me to. Basically, I'm letting the game play itself.

Even its most highly praised quests are the same. You need to find Ciri, a girl who is like a daughter figure for Geralt so he just goes around asking for her and for a little piece of information they ask him to do a favour for him and this is where the bulk of the game's story is. You doing stuff for other people who tell you to go meet next person who may know where Ciri is and then you doing a favour for them, rinse and repeat. Yet this is being hailed as "great writing". If this is great writing and storytelling then I'm sorry but that only means that video games have an incredibly low standard when it comes to storytelling.

This game does nothing that hasn't been done before. Its main quests are nothing more than the countless fetch quests you find in a game like Skyrim.

Good games these days are rare to find and TW3 lives up to its hype! I am personally not a story-type-of-gamer. My background is MOBA (no longer), FPS (no longer) and RPGs. I am a passionate soul player and recently finished Bloodborne (which I rated 10/10). I love complexity and challenges. I've played all games from MMOs (WoW to AION (and FF11)), to FPS (CS, COD and BF). Owned many consoles and loved Skyrim.

Here is why you should buy TW3:
    - The world is HUGE - to a point that curiosity invades your soul (Skyrim fans will love it)
    - Graphics on PS4 are good!
    - The story.

Now as I mentioned previously, I don't really dwell into the story when it comes to video games. I believe a better gameplay will always overshadow a good story line. Skyrim and Fallout are the only 2 games I really take time to read notes and story. That being said, the story line in TW3 is THAT good that it is REALLY hard not to LOVE IT. I am completely ADDICTED to side quests (not as much for the main story). The dialogue is great and really funny if you like black humor. I never hit the skip button (unless I have to talk a second time to merchants).

The reason why I am rating this game a 7/10 is:
    -1 combat system
-1 bugs (please fix it ASAP)
    -1 frame drop rate

    1) I personally dislike the combat system in TW3. The camera is really awful and 5 hours into the game, it really started to piss me off until I found that you can easily switch between multiple targets. Eventually I got used to it and 40 hours later, I am still loving this game.

    2) Bugs need to be fixed. I am not talking about glitches which are fine. I guess. I mean REAL bugs. Some quests don't work and I still have one pending quest in my journal (whom I already received the reward for it but still listed under treasure hunt). I crashed 3 times playing GWENT. And got stuck on several occasions. I also find sometimes crates or whatever to be hard to loot. You need a specific camera angle for it which is annoying.

    3) I am currently playing in Velen and the swamp is really laggy. Frame drop rate and bugs everywhere. Feels like the game isn't really polished. One of the quest (Baron going back to find his wife) - good luck lag and bugs feast.

Still on v1.01 hoping to get a v1.02 soon. Need a solid 1.1.

Should you buy this game? Yes. Will you like it? Yes if you are willing to ignore bugs (until fixed) and poor combat system (you'll get used to it and once you gain more levels then it's much more playable NOTE: I'm playing TW3 on Death to March mode - so camera and combat system really matter imo). Will you go for the plat trophy? Quite likely. I am!

    It's a good game!

It's the type of game where people are completely mesmerized by the presentation. But the MEAT and BONES are mediocre.

All that was missing is to feed me with epic story unfolding AS IM LOOKING for Ciri. But it never arrived. After 20 hours, I'm sick and bored of it. It goes nowhere. Just another fetch quest game to "2 min cutscene" to the next 1000 fetch quests until next cutscene that is useless.

no matter how I try, I could not sync with the character, I don't know maybe its me had a high expectation after playing Bloodborne. i am really confused, too many 9s and 10s. how you guys managed to have fun during fights???

Being a fan (from fanatical) of RPG I was really excited by what we were hearing from Project Red about the Witcher three, a massive open world gaming experience to rival if not outdo Skyrim, and obviously to a complete nerd who spent over 300 hours on Skyrim this was music to my hears.
Instead of actually writing in detail why I didn't rate it I will just list them,
    1. Not open

Instead of actually writing in detail why I didn't rate it I will just list them,
    1. Not open world, obviously that's why they worded it an open World experience.
2.A semi autonomous character that you sort of have control over apart from when it decides to draw its sword and go into a combat ready mode when you near an enemy even if you don't want to (not good In a RPG),maybe I should explain that in an RPG your are supposed to have control over your character not the console.
    3. A clanky old fashion combat system that wouldn't be out of place on a game ten years old ,there is a delay between you hitting the button and the character moving , most notable whilst in combat
    4. The movement dynamics of the character are atrocious, most notably when you try to position him next to a box or chest to gain access to it ,the only way I can describe it is it's like the character is made of jelly .
    5. Once you have visited a number of notice boards you will see on the map masses of ? meaning something of interest is here, the problem is 90% of those ? are a couple of monsters or Villains standing next to a chest which they call GUARDED TREASURE ,this happens at sea as well where instead of guarded treasure they call it smugglers caches, I call it monotonous filler , honestly after visiting the 40th one you lose the will to live.
6.A character that whines like a big Girls blouse if he takes a fall more than 2 feet in height (He is supposed to be a superhuman being that as been genetically enhanced by mutagens).
7.Even something as simple as the map they somehow managed cock up,once there are good number of characters on it the cursor travels across it in a serious jagged movements because each character pulls at the cursor as it passes by ,every game you come across as a map which doesn,t do this and works perfectly well so WHY?
8.I cannot do the bare knuckle fighting justice in words, you really have to experience for yourself how bad and annoying it is.
9.Ended up enjoying the card game known as Gwent more than actually playing the storyline.
    10. The Swearing is fine but after a while you feel like you are watching a talentless Comedian who tries to hide the fact of how bad he is by swearing a lot.
11.Geralt can climb (sometimes) but cannot descend, you literally have to fall of of things to descend, and as already stated this is followed by a loud whinge and if the fall is more than six feet death.
    12. You can make a cup of tea whilst it is loading.Handy but annoying.
    13. Whilst on the horse every movement you make is followed by Geralt bellowing at it SLOW DOWN ,SPEED UP ,ETC, not needed.
    14.etc etc etc
    15. Projekt Red compared it to Skrim, here is why it is not as good
No stealth, No bow, No magic to speak of, No Guilds, No companions, Truly open world, When there is a point of interest on the map there is actually something interesting there ,No pick pocketing, Skyrim had a fully fledged legal system you could end up in jail, No Dragons. You could do damage to your foes at a distance which I love as I always seem to play Bowmen, Play as different characters,Build your own House, much prefer the bar instead of the map, In the Right hand bottom corner there is a continous display giving basic action Info again WHY?, Mine Minerals and make your own Weapons, Armour.etc etc
    16.Here is whats better
More memorable characters,Obviously better graphics its next gen.Not afraid of adult themes or content I mean can you imagine an Inn in the Elder Scrolls being called The Cunny of the Goose,The boat was cool, Rock Trolls or as I will always think of them trolliloes ,Sense of humour.

A good Game but scratch the surface and there was not a lot underneath.

I don't know if it's because I'm probably a bit older than the average gamer, or because I don't really feel too strong an affinity with RPG systems, but I have never been so disappointed by a game.

I'll focus on the positive first; the reason it got five stars. The graphics are tremendous, don't get me wrong, you know you're still in a computer game but the landscape is very well balanced. The lighting is warm and the sunsets are long. Animations are smooth and responsive. It is a beautiful game. Also, the scope for developing the character is very wide - I imagine one could spend a good deal of time and thought developing the character's skill set. Unfortunately, I can't stretch my positive comments any further. Here are a few critiques.

Open world games are the epitome of gaming as far as I'm concerned. I never quite get a feeling of immersion in a restricted world. GTA and Skyrim of course come to mind, and I'm aware that there are plenty of comparisons out there so I'm just covering the same ground. Now, Witcher 3 had a world much larger than Skyrim's, and I admit I never explored too much of it, but I did get to the edge of the world a number of times, something which it took me weeks to do in Skyrim. This just pulled me out of the fantasy and reminded me that I was in a constructed world. Perhaps I'm asking too much, but why not just make the terrain impassable or an ocean / plain?

Which brings me onto my second critique; the nature of the world. Initially I was amazed by how familiar the world looked, the forests looked like forests I'd visited, the gentle rise and fall, the shallow canyons and the density of the trees was all great. Unfortunately, I found it all too regular. I could ride for five minutes and encounter nothing new. I'd still be in a forest. The villages and towns were all strikingly similar. Yes, all the characters had interesting little animations, but ultimately it was all quite mundane. Compare this with Skyrim, where you have huge stone ruins and each city has its own character. I fear the designers weren't quite on their game when it came to creativity; I want sublimity not technical accomplishment. Even compared to GTA which is simply a city in the real world, you have such a wealth of different environments that the world feels vastly different within a few minutes walk.

My final main critique is the acting. It was simply atrocious. Skyrim was bad, GTA was pretty good, excellent in fact. But the acting in Witcher 3 was like some terrible made-for-tv movie. Maybe it's good for a game, but I really did laugh all the way through. The story that the acting was meant to carry too, was very basic. I understand that story-telling in a game is still a developing field compared to film or literature, but it doesn't detract from the fact that this was very linear and tedious. Even the was the story unravels was fairly plain; talk to this guy, then talk to this guy. One interesting development was using the scent trails, at least it was interesting the first time. After that it was pointless, why not just highlight them on a map?

Anyway, I'll call it a day. I found the game tedious, the story mundane and the landscape simply plain.

First of all, the UI design is the worst I've ever seen, it is so awkward I could barely keep playing. Take the shop interface for an example, there is no way to quickly switch from your items to vendor's items, when you sell something, it left a hole there which makes navigating really weird, it's hard to explain, they really didn't optimize the UI, and the rendering time of map, items are ridiculously slow, 2 secs I think. The task tracking is a disaster, you can track only one task, if you pick up a new task when tracking something else, you have no idea where the new task is, and, why the menu always fold every time I open it?

Then the combat system, god, it is horrible, it seems you don't have i-frames when rolling, and whether you can stun-lock enemy is unpredictable, I can't figure it out. The awkward camera, bad movesets, man, if they don't know how to make action game, then don't. I used to dislike QTE but maybe it is a better and simpler solution than this crap.

The land has no variety, that is the problem with open world games, it is hard to add different layouts on a big map, yet Zelda manages that. You know, for a magic world, the environment doesn't look magic at all, Morrowind did a better job, Dark Souls is far more amazing, it's not the resolution or color, it is the design.

The task, god. In order to get my help, kill me a griffin. In order to find Ciri, help me find my family. In order to locate something, help me find my lamb. This is getting out of control! The pattern is so predictable I am really getting bored.

I think a 75% discount of GOTY version would worth the money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rated this game 6 previously. I was told to play the game on 3rd difficulty. Now please ignore that, the best way to play it is on Story only, ie the lowest difficulty. This game is not about the battles, they are extremely lame and repetitive. I now appreciate the game more with all the interesting missions and quests. I was really driven.......until i found Ciri. I thought that to be the end but.......it seems halfway as i am still going. The missions/quests are not interesting anymore though but lame and drawn out. While the Hunt is after us, i got plenty of time to wonder about and tie up lose ends, finish unfinished business. It makes no sense. When urgency is required, urgency should be in the gameplay. I feel it was a good attempt at a game, story great, most of the missions in first half quite cool. Graphics and the world great. Battles boring and not worth it. I am trying to push myself to finishing the main story so i can get into the side quests, as i was to low level to do them before, now i am at the right level but it feels like not making any sense to move away from the story line, once you are going, to stop move away a province to slay a beast. Perhaps when exploring the lands i will appreciate it more, unfortunate i was not able to explore before due to the strange level mechanics. Expand

One of the best games I've ever played, with my only 2 complaints being the following:

    1. There are so many pointless things to read. Like 90% of the books you read don't do anything or have anything really important to say. 2. There are way too many different types of each type of item; like herbs, food, crafting supplies and some of them you either never use, or use only 1 of ever

Just gave witcher 3 on another chance.

finished heart of stone but forced myself. It's wasn't awesome. Out of the 10 hours, I maybe enjoyed 90 minutes in total. The begining was really exciting and I liked how you unexpectedly get captured after killing the frog prince in the sewers and are sent to be executed by a cult who think that you killed their messiah. That was the coolest plot.

That was the coolest plot. Unfortunately, that's all there was that was.

The main game: Wild Hunt had nothing interesting except the plot with the King and his wife which I am not going into detail but that too only lasted 2 hours. I played aprox 18 hours after that and it was incredibly boring repetitive: just chase after a girl named ciri from town to town and do mindless fetch quests after fetch quests with some really boring cutscenes which I considered FILLER material. The main story was dragging with nothing really substantial to keep me interested.
Now that was the "best" part of my review...

The open world design is incredibly well done and spectacular to look at. But exploring it was ruined due to retarded character control design. I really cannot fathom how retarded the people at CD project red must've been to think that it's okay for character movements to be buggy like this. To this effect, the camera movement and character controls ruined the experience for me. The quests were not fun as others made them out.... it was the same repetitive stuff as any other mmo just with cutscenes in between. I think what makes the game feel incredible is just the beautiful graphics and design of the open world. Unfortunately, exploring it sucked due to the fact that the viewing angle on the character didn't feel immersive for my taste and the moving geralt was annoying. The character makes unecessary movements, awful horse collision detection etc. Most buildings are not explorable and when you do go inside one, it's a PAIN IN THE ASS to explore them because the camera + character movements are horribly done(incredibly frustrating and tiring to move around). Also, there were far too many uncessary loot items everywhere it got confusing but what made it worse was...the inventory management and menu which was really tiring to oversee. Each time I had to look at the map or find an item, it was a lengthy process of reloading the menu, flipping through tabs(input lag on each one).

It's far from the game everyone made it out to be.

After playing games for decades I usually have this "hunch" whether I would like this game or not by seeing the cover of the game.

I was mind blown the first few hours! The feeling was unique! I played many open world RPG and this is the first time I have seen the Story so well-developed! Not only that, the side quest itself is NOT a "copy paste of go here, fetch that, return here" type of lazy settings, it was well written and every interactions you had with this side quest, somehow affected the main story.
Geralt the main character is also very unique and I could see this character serialized for a movie (it did).
The world, the atmosphere was supportive enough to get you immersed in it. I was sure I would play this game for long time.

So i thought. The "Magic" starts disappearing after the first 3 hours, then I was completely snapped out of Witcher's Charm after putting 5 hours. In total I have played about 12 hours and reached Novigrad halfway.
    What happened?

I was overhyped. The story was well written, settings was well set. But that's it.
Combat was just okay to get you going from one story to another story, it is clunky and boring tbh.
Customization is quite limited. Outside of the main story, the environment feels very dead, you do not get many surprise element; although side quest is very engaging I'd still insist.

Having skipped 1 and 2, i began to feel less and less connected as i progess further to the main character as more new terms and jargons been throwed in the main story.
Combat became really boring after you figure out how to dodge enemies.
Magic and Alchemy feels less impactful, its like just using an item from a paused-enabled menu.

I can't explain very well, but overall I feel like this game may be rushed for some reasons.
The pre-planning concept was well done; however execution of the development was all over the place.

In conclusion, don't get me wrong, I think this game DESERVES a well-praised!
The developer has put enough effort , time and expertise in creating such an amazing series!
But the media has been over-hyping this in a sense it is like a bubble.
I think this game is great but definitely not 9 / 10.
A Fair judgment would be between 7 to 8 out of 10.

To normalize this overhyped / overbubbled high ratings, please forgive me of giving this rating a zero because while I acknowledge the game's greatness, I want to be fair to all other gamers out there whom may have a spoiled experience because of the expectations of "9/10", "GOTY!", "Masterpiece" type of reviews being distributed all over the internet.

You would be able to enjoy this game more with lower expectations. Do not fall into the same trap like me.

Way too much praise and not enough criticism for the flaws.

The game is VERY choppy, and everything feels herky jerky. Its so jerky its hard to stop and loot things because the loot box is so small and you can't stop right on the X marking to pick something up Also the lack of live motion capture is very evident. The animations are pretty awful. That being said, i love the witcher

Very bad user interface, very small font size, and a game that doesn't make you feel that you are achieving something special as you progress.
Also, very weird (in a bad way) character control.
Very nice graphics and world details.
    I'll take Bloodborne any time.

What I found was a sluggish combat system. An experience system that only rewards repetitively questing and hunting monsters was a colossal waste of time. Along with a game company that gets angry when people "play their game wrong" seeing fit to change anything and everything a player finds that isn't hack and slash mechanics. Leveling up magic is this game does not ultimately help you. Any time a viable magic build has been found by players CD Projekt removes it nearly immediately stating that you need to be a warrior.

Why is the combat system bad? Let's compare it to Dark Souls, Dark Souls is a game where you telegraph your moves and if you do the wrong move you are punished. In the Witcher 3 you also telegraph your moves, but your character at random changes targets, and flys around like a ballerina. The need for spinning attacks to be your "fast attack" is ridicules. This game focuses entirely on attempting to look appealing and not throws common sense and good game play out the window. The hit boxes feel miles long (for your character only) and while there is a dodge button it is completely useless because all enemies have a jump at you an attack move. Negating your entire dodge due to the extremely poor hit boxes. If you hit an enemy whilst they are in mid attack fear not they will still hit you, there is no such thing as knockback for enemies, that is only something the player character suffers from. If you do manage to down a few hundred monsters, don't not fret you will not level. You can grind monsters to your hearts content and your character will never improve as experience is largely only granted by quests. The unending struggle to overcome bad controls make this game nothing more than an irritation.

The quest mechanic, the only thing in the game that seems to reward experience. The level recommendations on it are by no means accurate. A level 5 quest my decide it has level 12 monsters. Meaning if you attempt it at say level 6 you will be destroyed. The quests are always fetch this or go kill that. There is little diversity and leaves the game feeling like a second job. Personally, I would rather be earning money then grinding repetitively though a very unrewarding experience. A large problem with this game is effort to reward ratio is far of base. Nothing makes you feel like you have done a good job or achieved anything. Monster killing is pointless, but you'll talk to the right villager and instantly granted 400 experience, every level only takes 1000 experience to gain, so 400 experience is substantial. The questing experience isn't granted based on how difficult the quest is or how long it took to do, simply at random. If you are looking for a rewarding RPG in this sense, maybe try Horizon or any of the From Soft games (Dark Souls, Bloodbourne, Demon Souls).

The open world is unbelievable. There's so many things to do in the game that you may feel overwhelmed. The game looks fantastic even with the frame rate issues that occur from time to time. The biggest problem I have with the game is the combat. It does feel a bit dated and at times unresponsive. Definitely a game worth checking out. You will no doubt get your money's worth.

The graphics are good. A noticable improvement on the previous game (even that looks good today). The facial animations and expressions are great and the eyes look human. Overall a beautiful game.

The story is interesting and there are quite a few interesting characters.

Character development is great. A completely new system. You assign points to talent trees, but to activate them you have to place your chosen talents into slots which you unlock as you level up.

Voice acting is great as always. With one exception (see below)

    Cons:
    -----
The interface have not improved much since TW2. Inventory is mostly ok, but there is no way of sorting stuff to, say, weight, value, stack size, durability or damage. The inventory screen could have been much larger and show more items at once. It has sooo much unused background space on it.

Combat was better in TW2 in my opinion. Seems like it has been simplified further and is more button mashing than before. Still, could be worse.

Looting can be a royal pain in the ass. Both Geralt and the camera must be aimed in the general direction of the lootable object. Doesn't sound too bad, but character movement is so incredibly imprecise that it becomes infuriating. Adding to this problem is the number of braziers and torches around that will get in the way of looting and you will accidentaly light/extinguish these instead. Gah! (This was just fixed in a recent patch apparently)

The in-game mini game, Gwent, is really bad and arbitrary in my opinion. But that's optional, so no biggie.

The game is, as i said before, a beautiful one. but the trees and grass look really bad in the wind. They're way too springy and reacts way too strongly to the wind.

The camera is, like TW2, too close to Geralt. I kept wanting to zoom out while I was playing all the time.

Voice acting of Geralt is as dull and wooden as always. Some people think he's great, but I find him a bore to listen to. Always have.

Stuff I dislike, but others might like:
    ---------------------------------------
The game is huge. it took a lot of effort to create this world and everything in it. But to me, that's its downfall. There are so many distractions from the main story. The amount of side quests and questionmarks on the map the game wants you to explore and complete is insane. You feel compelled to do it (and you also have to do it in order to be high enough lvl to do the main quests) and therefore spend very little time doing the main story quests. This gets me bored and I don't really feel engaged in the main plot. It also feels unnatural, story wise, to waste time doing errands for random strangers when you're on a search for a missing person close to you. I wish game developers made the effort to have sidequests expand the main plot too instead of just expanding the lore of the world. This is all very common in games like this and fans probably both expect and want it.

The side quests are also a bit repetative. Go to the scene of the crime, use your witcher sense (which is now more like the detective mode in the Batman games) to search for clues, follow clues to the main event and kill whatever monster is bothering the NPC in question.

    Little annoyances:
    ------------------
The game minimizes at random times. Usually after clicking the mouse so one would think it had to do with the cursor hitting outside the main monitor. But for me, once the game has minimized, the cursor is NOT outside my main monitor. Still, doesn't happen a lot and I think I could avoid it by disabling the 2nd monitor while playing.

The in game map is always zoomed all the way in and isn't detailed enough to justify that. You almost always want to zoom all the way out to quickly find the place you want to go to. Once zoomed out, it should stay zoomed out, but no, not here.

I guess I recommend it, because it IS of high quality and a lot of effort have been put into it. No doubt.

There are a few bugs which have been more funny than ruined my gameplay experience. It is very similar to Dragon Age in the way you move from area to area but feel with this concept it helps the game run smoother whilst exploring. Yes its not the full open world of skyrim but (for the console players) don't have to wait 30/60 secs every time you enter a building. Try not to get stuck on a bit for too long though (talking of loading times) because the reload back into your game when you die is a painful and have made refreshments, in another room and come back to find it still loading.
I would advise not to listen to people who wont enjoy the game due to the graphics not being as good as they though or there being a few bugs. Not only does the game lack any decent combat, but its treatment of the story is also flat out stupid. Your character is given options when interacting with others as to what he should say or do. The problem with this is about half the time, after you make your dialogue selection, you then have to *also select* the other options not chosen afterwards -- so you can engage in an incredibly pointless dialogue sure to take hours. If this is the best that PS4 RPG games get, count me out. Bloodborne may have been frustrating, but it was worth the endless repeated deaths; at least there was action. Witcher makes you envious of all the many things you could be doing instead of playing it -- like cleaning out your broom closet, getting that shamrock tattoo, or just waiting for flies to come in through the open window. Unlike Witcher, there seems to be purpose there . . . .

I've played lots of JRPGs and some pretty complex ones, but the Witcher 3 has to be the most overwhelming experience I've ever had getting started. There were just too many tutorials one after another that seemed to never stop. This was amplified by the fact that the font is incredibly small!!! I have a big tv and its still small! This is very annoying. The user interface is also not very organized and confusing to manage for new players. After awhile, I started getting used to it, but it never felt intuitive. Another huge issue for me is the controls. The controls feel really awkward and I was constantly pushing the wrong button. Also, picking up materials was extremely annoying as it was hard to read what you are picking up and you have to angle the camera at just the right point. The character's movement also felt sluggish and awkward, like controlling a big semi. I also wish the minimap could be enlarged as opening the main map everytime to see the bigger picture was frustrating. All these things were annoying but could be forgiven if the game was actually fun and interesting, but I didn't enjoy the combat because of the clunky controls. Also, the story wasn't that interesting. Just lots and lots of talking. And the dialogue wasn't captivating, just boring and put me to sleep. Lots more issues, but you get the picture. One thing I liked about the game was the music. You really felt like you were in a faraway land. Also, the game has an incredible amount of detail. The problem was at times it felt too overwhelming. I think they put too much into the game. It would've helped to focus on certain elements and cut some things out. I think people who enjoy western rpgs will really like this game, but gamers who don't like going out of there way to learn how to work the game on their own and want intuitive controls and clear and easy to understand tutorials will not enjoy this game. This game is for the most hardcore RPG players.

All armor doesn't interact right. The shirts are constantly clipping through the pants. Its some serious Ps2 stuff going on. Oh also all these positive comments about the wind looking amazing. What????? The physics are sooo off how can anyone say that. Every single blade of grass up to giant tree looks like its being blown in different direction then the one right next to it. Also ive noticed alot of hanging plants when I walk into them just disappear until you adjust camera angle rather then moving. Now about the controls. How on earth did they manage to get the horrid laggy type controls from odd world abes odyssey. Seriously its that bad. I had to spend many minutes adjusting my sensitivity and it still feels off. The game on hardest difficulty has been a breeze through what I have seen so far. There are just so many things wrong with this it isn't really possible to list them all. There are many youtube video already showing up that verify everything I am speaking about and more. They did not give us the game they showed us that is for sure. Expand

Action sequences are poorly designed. No an once of proper collision between objects, characters and the surroundings. Terrible graphics. Boring storyline. To avoid.

This is a nicely done game. Don't listen to the people that complain about the graphics as they are done well. When I first started to move my character and have combat in the game I realized it would take a while to get used to this movement, which seemed choppy and stilted, as if I was always overstepping what I wanted to do, so I will give the whiners that much, the controls are not fluid. I could possibly score higher but I feel a positive 7.5 from where I am at in the game is acceptable. I think I am a bit jaded via playing so many of these types of games, the first thing I did was go walk around the land looking for secrets and trying to discover things, well that as it turns out is not really what this adventure is about, it is more about the story they are trying to convey and where that will take you. I have played about 12 hours of the game and with still so much left to do in the game I feel this review is premature, but there it is. Expand

Combat during the training exercises felt decent. Traveling around by horse was also interesting as you can hold down X while on a road to automatically travel it, all without moving the control stick. Graphics are also quite nice, everything looks great!

This doesn't really feel like a game though, it feels more like an interactive movie with little bits of combat sprinkled in. You will find yourself talking to NPCs for hours upon hours, repeating tedious and boring tasks such as, well...talking to more NPCs. Just when you think you've finished the quest and have spoken to everyone needed, another quest line will start that involves even more talking. sometimes between all the chatter, you will do a very brief battle where you fight 5 enemies or so, and then resume talking again. You get the idea.

Combat during the tutorial felt decent but that's because they don't attack at the normal pace most enemies will. Doing a light attack is slower than most of the enemies' basic attacks, causing you to flinch before your attacks land. Timing the attacks is difficult due to clunky controls and sluggish movement. Dodging feels useless as there are no invulnerability frames during it.

Text size is another issue why I couldn't enjoy this game. The text is way too small for any normal human being to read. That is unless you play with a huge flat screen TV 1 foot away from your face. So not being able to read how to do anything in the game is definitely something that ruined it. Finding items that do something, but can't tell what. Having to do quests (more than likely that involve talking) but can't read who to go to or why.

Story is the one amazing thing about this game. It does very well with telling a story. I myself don't entirely understand it as I've never played the previous Witcher games, but it's not hard to tell that it does extremely well at story telling. Playing the previous games is recommended to fully enjoy this game.

Overall I found the game to be very bland and repeatetive. If you enjoy running errands and conversing with local townsfolk, then you will enjoy this game. Combat and movement are both clunky and feel unresponsive at times. If you enjoy a good story, then pick this up.

Role-playing traditionally makes the player contemplate and relies on intelligence more than the speed of your thumb on a gamepad. Therefore, don’t expect Baldur’s Gate 1 or 2 here. Hell, Witcher 3 is not even Dragon Age: Origins in the intellectual sense. Yet even so, Witcher 3 is not all bad. The game has its pluses (though not nearly so many as the thirty-five million dollar marketing budget and purchased awards would have you believe). The expansion pack Blood and Wine is meh whereas Hearts of Stone rises above the rest. It is a gripping story with hard choices and harder battles and a relationship that is deftly, maturely handled. I am tempted to say Hearts of Stone is worth the purchase price of the entire game, but even its excellence doesn’t validate suffering through the mindlessness of TW 3, which is 80% fluff and takes control away from the gamer at crucial stages to display yet another stupid cut-scene.

Clunky controls coupled with terrible camera angles make both combat and travelling fairly tedious, constantly stumbling into obstacles and npcs like a confused animal (even worse when trying to ride on your horse).

I can't say much about the story as after about 10 hours of play, 4 hours of that was just staring at a loading screen. Some taking up to 45 minutes to load the next area. I downloaded a game on my phone to play while it was loading and spent so much time playing it that I forgot I even had the Playstation on at one point. An hour was also spent trying to find a blacksmith to repair my silver sword (I couldn't do any damage to monsters or complete any quests without it) because the blacksmith icon doesn't appear on your map until you are physically standing in a town that has one.

All text seems to be so small that despite playing the game on a fairly large tv, I can't read anything from the sofa. This can be a bit of a chore as there are a lot of missions that require you to read diaries or look up weaknesses on monsters in your bestiary.

Some people may have had a better experience playing this game (may be better on pc) but I can't even bring myself to play for completionist sake. After so much hype I expected better, instead I spent £50 on one of the worst experiences I've ever had playing a video game. Will be up on ebay by the end of the week.

    * The witcher sense mode combined with the so-so control scheme AND the unresponsive "press x to examine" is just a chore. I hate every part of the game that tells me to search an area using my witcher senses and there are a lot of them.
    * The durability system where you have to find a blacksmith to constantly repair is tedious, as blacksmith vs game area ratio is stupid.
    * I once spent two hours in fallout new vegas, clearing out an area of monsters that were far above my level. I got something for it in the end. There was excitement and a sense of reward. In witcher, even if you breath in the main quest, you get experience. If you complete a side quest (they ARE repetetive) you get less rewarded. I would've prefered less quests and more reward.
    * The game does everything for you. Having the minimap tell you where to go everytime makes the game more dumb than it should. Where bloodborne didn't tell you anything, witcher tells you everything. To the point you stop reading uninteresting dialouge and just follow the yellow dot.

The game is beautiful, well crafted but is lacking something that a guy like me, who has a family and limited amount of time to play, appreciates most in a game. It's not that fun. I keep playing but I'm not sure why anymore. Most of the frustration I guess comes from long loading times and the general awkwardness of the game. You constantly start-stop, getting stuck, go from A to B only to go to C and back to A and then to D. Oh my god. I love RPGs. This is something else.

Writing probably great (only played 40 minutes - so can't really judge), graphics certainly seem good for the 20 minutes I play. Not really a fan of reaction based combat, but this seems ok as well. Other mechanics seem fine.
I just can't stand the main protagonist - so that's "Game Over" for me.
Yes it's a good game probably. If they mod it so you can change the look of the main guy I'll jump on board, but otherwise I'm just picturing him beckoning Vinny Jones and Maria Whittaker into his cheesy neon night club for a cocktail with too many bits of fluorescent crap floating in it.
He's the worst main character I've ever seen IMO.

The conclusion of Geralt’s game saga couldn’t be better. The large open world, great storytelling and dozens of hours of pure fun – this game is an absolute must for every RPG fan. [Issue#253]

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
