I bought this game based on the good reviews. However, I found it to be very slow. To get anywhere you have to ride through huge landscapes. Too many cut scenes. Overall found it a bit boring.

Mechanics for fights were not great either.

This incredibly beautiful open world is fantastically presented and I found myself frequently making use of the ps4's share button to upload screenshots of the incredible scenery. The main storyline is one to be remembered for years as it keeps you interested at all times and is very easy to follow, even allowing you to make your own decisions in order to change the outcome of the game as well as causing changes to specific characters and even communities. If you weren't told otherwise, you'd think side quests were a part of the main story, with some side quests significantly affecting what happens to some characters, such as who will be the king/queen of Skellige or what will happen to King Radovid. Scavenger hunts and witcher contracts provide a nice alternative to the main story for a bit of money or to help level up your character. CD Projekt RED clearly didn't become lazy when creating side quests as they are excellent. One of the amazing things that CD Projekt RED did was allow new players (such as myself) to fully understand the lore of the game and the background of the characters despite the fact that this is the third game in its series. As is almost a requirement for any RPG game is a good combat system, and The Witcher 3 does not disappoint, simple fast attacks and heavy attacks make up the general swordplay but the use of rolls, dodges and parries allow for a more complex defensive part of combat and the addition of magic elements such as bombs, oils, potions and signs fulfills the RPG aspect of the game. General enemies are simple to take down, yet not at all repetitive and the boss battles are something else, huge elves known as the Wild Hunt make up the main bosses, wearing badass armour and having a huge amount of health combined with unique abilities such as teleporting or summoning elementals keep you on your toes and alert at all times make for some of the best boss fights I've ever seen. Sticking with the subject, the end battle is magnificent with not one but two bosses and the combination of fighting as both Ciri and Geralt adds an original twist to the already spectacular game. The only things that could be altered with this game are the occasionally glitchy movement system, often you'll find yourself unable to open a chest or loot a body and the walking and running can sometimes feel unnatural. As well as this, as somewhat of a newcomer to RPGs, at the beginning of the game I found it slightly difficult to fully understand some elements of the game such as magic items and the ability trees and so would recommend taking your time at the beginning to make sure you read the tutorials and completely understand them. In conclusion, this game completely amazed me, the incredible amount of content that is in this game is phenomenal and every aspect can't be faulted. It is definitely one of the best, if not the best game I have ever played and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The lack of multiplayer may deter some gamers however anyone will enjoy The Witcher 3, regardless of whether they usually prefer multiplayer or singleplayer. I have given The Witcher 3 a score of 10 because of the following reasons:

    Strengths:
    - Fantastic storyline
    - Impressive graphics
    - Interesting, exciting side quests
    - Highly entertaining boss battles
    - Good combat system

    Weaknesses:
    - Occasional glitches
    - Unnatural movement

There is a level of depth and sophistication happening here that surpasses anything I've experienced in a video game. I'm totally invested in every moving part of this epic rpg; the main story, the side missions and contracts, character development, gear and crafting...the list is endless. If you spend $60 on one new video game this year, make it this one.

It surprised me with hugely developed side quests that were as much developed as main quests.

But when you look beneath the surface, you find a game that plays.. well hardly plays at all, both mechanically and experientially. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, heard the positive reviews, and waited until after multiple patches, before I judged. Witcher 3 has ultimately bad controls and poor combat besides the in-game card game Gwent, the gameplay is not good. Simply moving your static character (Geralt or Ciri) is a chore. He constantly feels like he is stepping over his feet or lost in the mood, never natural (and this doesn't change after hours of playing). His c button to loot constant random stuff around him is often unintuitive. And these poor controls bleed deeply into the combat- hit boxes are irrelevant, dodging is pointless, there are two button making swings and that's it, victory is determined based on your level, difficulty setting, or inventory management (the last of which I could respect if any other principals of gameplay combat were also accounted for). And I will say that all of these mechanics are much more poorly executed in Witcher 3 than in last year's Dragom Age Inquisition. To top it all off there are still glitches galore, main missions are rendered incompletable because the character can't examine the red stuff that he is supposed to be able to examine. So you're just like what's the point. This is hardly a game. If you want a medieval soap opera fantasy, just watch game of thrones on HBO. Expand

You getting easily bored to see always the same faces. The graphics could have been better, still a shame with lots games for PS4. I missed a better prologue within the quests, special after you have already spoken to the person instead you hear always " what do you want" a bit lame for my taste. The quests are good as well for the story some of it special with some characters from the past, because you find it out after you meet the person. So it's sometimes hart do understand what happened in his past if you have not played the first and second game.
Next would be that it takes quite long to build up your abilities, takes ages to gain points at the start.
To follow up the story you have to sort out the secondary quest as well, because if you don't something is not more available later because you are above the level you reached, so you get easy lost to do that.
Weapons and Amor nice that you can get those, somehow. You need to search all over the map to find those diagrams to get them as well you need to find the blacksmith to make them, so you are again back in line to find those, in the meantime you are able to build up your level and when you found the blacksmith, your level is above the amor that you will need to find the enhanced diagrams. So this can be a pain, as well you have to wait to get to a certain level to do that quest to get those diagrams. Or you cannot kill the creatures because your level is to low???? Most of Velen are to high on your level to fight as well in Skyling? Sorry if it is wrong!! But if you looking for Ciri there, is a lot that you actually cannot help to solve quests to earn money because again" your level is to low! So not much you can do just run away. And go back later.
So i missed a bit more in that game, i still playing it so i hope i don't lose the fun before quitting it because it gets boring. Well there is a lot to do and to explore that is nicely done, no comments about that. But i still miss something somehow. I know everyone is different and has other expectations to like a good game, but this is not the best sorry! Not close to skyrim or oblivion, those are great games. I like that it is a story of witchers and sorcerer as well have some nude scene with lovestory in it.
It would have been great if there have put more details in this game, more character more options more prologue.

Every decision you make in the story has repercussions. Which leads to my biggest gripe about the game...you can't play multiple profiles at the same time. This has to be one of the best western RPGs I've played in a long, long time. I am very tempted to give it a perfect score, however thanks to a few minor irritations, it just falls short.

    Such as:
    1) Glitches, minor ones. Kind of funny seeing characters phase through objects, magically appear and disappear. Puddles of doom (if this happened to you, you'll know what I mean.) None of these are game breaking, just minor annoyances that disrupt the immersion.
    2) Way, way, way, way to many pointless mini quests (hidden treasure, bandit, camps, etc.) While they are fun at first they do become mostly pointless once you start crafting your own gear. I would have rather had more witcher contracts, than dozens of meaningless smuggler caches.
    3) Gwent becomes far too easy once you have most of the cards. Why not introduce handicaps (like what they did in Final Fantasy 8.)
    4) Copy and paste sex scenes. Seriously, the Witcher 2 may have had less, but at least there was effort made so they all didn't look the same.
    5) Why isn't Ves a romance option? Or at the very least a quick dalliance.
    6) Unbalanced set monster levels scattered through each area. While it does add a challenge, it also forces too much back and forth. Also, it's kinda funny and annoying that at level 35 you still get mobbed by level 1 wolves. It would have been so much better if enemies were scaled to your level (with obvious exception to contracts and story related creatures.)

But these are all just very minor gripes which hopefully will be addressed in future patches and DLC.

The world of the Witcher 3 is massive and each area is almost game into itself. The level of detail and the scenic beauty of the graphics truly show what the PS4 is capable of.

The story is gripping from beginning to end. Many of the secondary quests are gripping from beginning to end. Excellent writing and character development. Although I did wish that there would have been more of Ciri.

    Overall:
The Witcher 3 is a marvelous game that is a clear milestone for the genre. Hopefully other developers will look to this game learn from its success. Thank you CD Project Red.

Actually my score was a 9.75, and I will tell you why. First of all, the game is great, and there is no argument that can be made against that that would make sense. The only con to this game is the fact that sometimes it glitches ever so slightly. It doesn't effect gameplay, it's just annoying. I love this game. The glitches still aren't near as bad as most game glitches. It is very long and has an endless amount of side quests. The game's difficulty ranges from pretty easy to ridiculously hard, depending on what you want. I believe anyone can beat this game. The music is excellent and the graphics are phenominal for an open world RPG that is probably one of the biggest games ever made. I don't hate on the glitches, what few there are, because for the size that this game is, and the small amount of time that the developers had to work on it, I believe that they did whatever they could with what today's technology was able to do. Hats off to the CD PROJECT RED. The story is so detailed and intricate that in my opinion it wins the award for best story in a game ever. The gameplay is challenging in the right areas and always feels real while still giving you the feeling that your are a gifted bad ass. Although I did wish there should've been more variety when it came to the free roaming (the ?'s around the map), but the reward of finding quality gear outweighed the repetitiveness of it. The witcher contracts were also a blast to play, as the side stories revolving around the monsters sucks you in, and you just want to see the sucker for yourself and kill it. Speaking of enemies, there is a lot of them in this game, with different ways to kill all of them, just would've liked to see more variety of move sets of each monsters, (it's a small detail, but it's something that irked me seeing a different monster within a set species having basically the same move set). Now the story itself was great with a amazing cast of characters I cared for, especially the well being of the girl we are after in the game. Some of the main missions dragged on unnecessarily, but for the most part I enjoyed playing the main story and watching the story unfold (kind of underwhelmed by all of the endings but that's my opinion). The gameplay and rpg aspects of this game can be summed up in one word: "simple". Basically a hack and slash game, with complimentary potions/ few magic spells and rpg elements to boost your character. Honestly, no complaints from me regarding the gameplay, would've liked to see geralt learn new moves and signs as the game went on, but again its a small detail that doesn't take away from the overall gameplay. After beating the game, i can honestly say that this is an amazing game but it's not for everyone, it's far from perfect, but the amount of stuff can keep you occupied for hundreds of hours especially if you like grinding. To end, if you plan on straight doing main quests and nothing else, it's an 8/10.. but if you like this game a lot, you'll probably end up spending hundred of hours on it and it's an 9/10. Expand

I can understand, that many people got used to broken and bugged games so much, that they are willing to push out a 10 for a game, which has several problems in both technical and design.
I'm not going into what the Witcher 3 is about, or how you progress in the game. You can read 99% of the reviewers describing of what this game is.
Instead, I point out obvious and not so obvious issues.
Let's start with the menu system. While it's not the worst, neither great. For example, if you enter the inventory (key: i), it takes 2 steps to get out. The Witcher's inventory is also quite disorganized. Your weapons and armor plus potions are lumped into one screen, while other items you collect are under other tabs. Looking at the items you pick up, is confusing and that little yellow star indicating the newest item is barely visible or completely invisible if the item is yellow. Most of the time it's hard to make out what exactly I picked up, especially looking at the herbs and miscellaneous items, because the icon is small and after a few hours, your inventory fills up to a point, where you loose track of what you have or what you should do with.
Trying to pursue to make one specific sword, armor or potion could be frustrating and tedious, so best advice is to pick up everything. I mean everything, even a rotten piece of meat or a broken fishing rod. You are going to spend a good amount of time of picking up everything that is pickable. If you thought Dragon Age: I was bad with herb picking, you ain't seen nothing yet, until you play this game.
Actually the title should have been Witcher 3 : Public Waste Management.
Another issue has to be the money system. You are not going to have a lot of money throughout the game. You are going to spend it on repairing your sword and armor after every 10 enemy you fight. At boss fights, your equipment will brake and your potions will run out. Sound challenging - yes, but plan to visit a black smith in about every 20 minutes and spend enormous amount of money on repairs. You found a unique sword and armor? You may consider finding another one, instead of repairing it. Kinda makes the rune stones almost useless and equipment with sockets for them.
    Potions.Equipment
I have 2 different potions i can use during traveling or combat, but I can switch them out, if I access my inventory, which as I said, involves hopping through 3 different screens.
Why not just let me equip at least 10 of them? I got 10 numbered keys on my keyboard. Why the redundancy and the immersion braking by navigating through menus while in combat?
    Combat:
Maybe it's only me, but blocking is almost useless. Most people will not block, because it can cause plenty of damage anyway, or stagger. I mean my level 12 witcher staggers from a level 1 bandit. So why should I even bother blocking, if I can just roll around? So they made the blocking another useless function, and with it, the whole parrying and counter attack options as well. Now, my old and experienced witcher relies on rolling around the ground left and right and its sword skills consist just a little more than whirlwind cuts and then roll. Spin around again with the sword, roll away quick.
I'm not sure what happened, because blocking/parrying/countering worked quite well in Witcher 2. They just dumped the whole thing, or is it bugged?
I also noticed, that even if the enemy doesn't hit towards me, the hit still counts? For example, a wolf was biting towards me, so I side stepped. It bit into the air, but apparently I lost health, like it bit me directly.
So now, I don't side step. I only roll and stab. Stab, stab roll. Roll roll stab. Rinse and repeat, if I want to live and win.
    Bugged or a design feature?
    Bugs and glitches.
This may be temporary, but they still exist.
    1. On shores, if I get off the horse, sometimes Geralt starts swimming in an ankle deep water. Kinda funny, but if you got enemies around, you are dead.
    2. Re-loading a quick save can have various effects. For example, you can can't open the same chest or various items missing from the ground. You use your witcher senses, but the items that were highlighted before are gone. Or the chest won't highlight anymore.
Or you can't complete a mission, because the mission specific item is gone. I couldn't free a jailed person, because the key disappeared upon re-loading the game.
    3.
    Bugged, stucked animations, clipping issues.
There are certain lootable boxes, that can't be looted, because it's under other items and the "loot" text doesn't appear, no matter how you turn towards it.
Geralt puts away the sword if it fights an enemy, which can disappear and re-appear. Like a wraith or a ghost. This can be a pain in the butt, because that one second could cost your life.

Witcher 3 is the continuation of the story for the Witcher series. You do not necessarily have to have played the first and second game to understand the story in Witcher 3; however it is recommended you have. Options are provided to allow dedicated fans to import their saved game data and new gamers to the series can use the defaulted world saves.

Witcher 3 is overall an excellent game

Witcher 3 is overall an excellent game and deserves many praises. High graphical fidelity (although lesser than what was displayed at E3), deep and meaningful storyline, great combat system, memorable characters and more. CD Projekt RED should pat themselves on the back for providing DLC's for free. Yes, you hear right; the DLC's we get are free and I am not talking about one or two DLC's. Thus far, they have released 14 free DLC's. CD Projekt RED sets an examine of how the gaming industry should be behaving when it comes to downloadable content.

Bad story line, Terrible RBG. Controls do not respond in real time, especially in combat. The people who made this need to go back to the drawing board.

I've never written a review of a computer game before but felt compelled to by seeing all the positive reviews. I don't know if it's because I'm probably a bit older than the average gamer, or because I don't really feel too strong an affinity with RPG systems, but I have never been so disappointed by a game.

I've never written a review of a computer game before but felt compelled to by seeing all the positive reviews. I don't know if it's because I'm probably a bit older than the average gamer, or because I don't really feel too strong an affinity with RPG systems, but I have never been so disappointed by a game.

I'll focus on the positive first; the reason it got five stars. The graphics are tremendous, don't get me wrong, you know you're still in a computer game but the landscape is very well balanced. The lighting is warm and the sunsets are long. Animations are smooth and responsive. It is a beautiful game. Also, the scope for developing the character is very wide - I imagine one could spend a good deal of time and thought developing the character's skill set. Unfortunately, I can't stretch my positive comments any further. Here are a few critiques.

Open world games are the epitome of gaming as far as I'm concerned. I never quite get a feeling of immersion in a restricted world. GTA and Skyrim of course come to mind, and I'm aware that there are plenty of comparisons out there so I'm just covering the same ground. Now, Witcher 3 had a world much larger than Skyrim's, and I admit I never explored too much of it, but I did get to the edge of the world a number of times, something which it took me weeks to do in Skyrim. This just pulled me out of the fantasy and reminded me that I was in a constructed world. Perhaps I'm asking too much, but why not just make the terrain impassable or an ocean / plain?

Which brings me onto my second critique; the nature of the world. Initially I was amazed by how familiar the world looked, the forests looked like forests I'd visited, the gentle rise and fall, the shallow canyons and the density of the trees was all great. Unfortunately, I found it all too regular. I could ride for five minutes and encounter nothing new. I'd still be in a forest. The villages and towns were all strikingly similar. Yes, all the characters had interesting little animations, but ultimately it was all quite mundane. Compare this with Skyrim, where you have huge stone ruins and each city has its own character. I fear the designers weren't quite on their game when it came to creativity; I want sublimity not technical accomplishment. Even compared to GTA which is simply a city in the real world, you have such a wealth of different environments that the world feels vastly different within a few minutes walk.

My final main critique is the acting. It was simply atrocious. Skyrim was bad, GTA was pretty good, excellent in fact. But the acting in Witcher 3 was like some terrible made-for-tv movie. Maybe it's good for a game, but I really did laugh all the way through. The story that the acting was meant to carry too, was very basic. I understand that story-telling in a game is still a developing field compared to film or literature, but it doesn't detract from the fact that this was very linear and tedious. Even the was the story unravels was fairly plain; talk to this guy, then talk to this guy. One interesting development was using the scent trails, at least it was interesting the first time. After that it was pointless, why not just highlight them on a map?

Anyway, I'll call it a day. I found the game tedious, the story mundane and the landscape simply plain.

My favorite game on PS4 and possibly the best open world game ever made. I absolutely loved the Witcher 3. I've never played a game that was so consistently good for so long. The characters, voice acting and dialogue are all top notch. The main missions are outstanding and the side missions are just as good. This a must play game if you like open world RPGs.

This is coming from a guy who spent sleepless hours enjoying every single detail in the game, evrything is perfect and in place .. story, environment, design, graphics, a vast open world, interesting challenges and bosses, numerous and different possiblilities and decisions that influence the story progression completely depending on your actions and choices ...
I mean what else is needed to be found in an rpg game other than those?

Yes there're few bugs that are totally secondary to the overall perfection of this game, and i read some negative reviews complaining about the camera and the control of the horse, which is also true, but despite that still you'll never want it to end ..

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
