What may seem like an overwhelming amount of content to most is really the greatest strength of the game, and shows what other developers lack. CDProjectRed has created a world that is so interesting, well-written, and graphically stunning that one would blame them for NOT creating hours and hours of content for it. It's this content that gives the game life, of the likes which gaming has never seen before. NPC's aren't just there to take up space, each one has a purpose and many have something unique and interesting to say. And this isn't just walls of text as you run from one NPC to the next, this is living, breathing dialogue that is delivered convincingly, as if it were a film. One thing is for certain about Witcher 3, and that is that one never questions the authenticity of the world.

The story continues to show CDProjectRed's growth as storytellers, improving on Witcher 2's already impressive writing. While the ending was a bit underwhelming, the journey to get there was emotional and riveting from even the smallest of side-quests.

Witcher 3 is one of the grandest achievements in gaming, and is one of the few titles in existence that really makes me proud to be a gamer.

When you get older and older, you start to see thing beyond just the game itself, you start paying attention to more things, just out of experience or maturity. You just start to see and appreciate things differently from when you were younger. Well, it applies for everything in life. But, as a gamer, I can say with all my heart, that the people behind CD Projekt RED, made something special, revolutionary, unique, and beyond everything most developers nowadays, "do".

The game is amazing in ALL aspect that go much further the game itself. It is a example to be followed. The people that made it happen deserves all our respect and ADMIRATION.

They didn't create just a "game". They gave us a experience, and, a memory to be carried for the rest of our lives.

Skyrim is going to be the game I'm comparing it too... Yes it's old now however that game has in my eyes beaten all recent games in the genre... Witcher 3 has Raised the bar and taken the crown from Bethesda's Skyrim. 3. Perfect, flawless cinematography and directing, in every single quest you can get, including side quests, making every encounter and event unique, thus further amplifies the sense of feedback and reward to the players. (of course, apart from the smuggler's treasures loot hunt map fillers)
    4. challenging but fair combat, even on Death March difficulty. Sometimes I even felt like playing darksouls, which centers on learning every moves of different enemies and designing your counter-measures base on the items you have and the skills and signs you gained.
    5. Engaging music, not your mundane heroic symphony which you can hear in almost every other big RPG titles these days. Witcher 3's score is more pagan and wild, also very blood-boiling, just the extra buff you need when facing an ancient leshen or fiend in a foggy, murky slavic forest.
    6. Humorously written. Let's face it, we've had enough of the blank face standard hero templates in RPGs. Witcher 3's dialogue is not only masterfully written but also can be extremely hilarious when it needs to be.

with Fallout 4 already out now, and having played both games, it's safe to say that Witcher 3: Wild Hunt doesn't fall behind at all, and even surpasses Fallout 4 in certain ways.

The main quests are pretty good and interesting enough to make you want to keep going. The side quests are great there's just a lot of variety in them despite most of them being focused on hunting monsters. The monsters you hunt will rarely be the same kind that you hunt from a different contract. The stories are way more interesting in these side quests than other open world RPGs as I actually did care what was happening. The pros far outweigh the cons and is easily a GOTY contender Expand

I have been a gamer since the days of Pong and can assure you that if you give this game the chance to court you with its dazzling charm, incredible world, fun missions and engrossing characters then you will be treated to one of the greatest video games ever made. I almost feel sorry for anyone who misses out on this. CD Projeckt Red have shown how to make a next gen open world RPG along with the commitment to regular patches and quality DLC.

The combat is great once you get the hang of it and I found the upgrading system to work just fine driving you to want to get to that next ability point to spend. The game allows you to play it as you want. You can move seamlessly from main mission to mission progressing the story at a good pace where the excellent mapping system makes it easy for you to know where to go without getting lost and frustrated. At the same time the secondary quests are some of the best leading to interesting character development and handsome rewards. I found myself playing a few missions then following the urge to get on my horse and just explore the incredibly beautiful open world where you always run into interesting discoveries.
Overall I would rate this game as 9.8 out of 10 and say that it is the best game out on PS4 and yes that includes fallout 4 and MGSV go get some Witcher!!!

All I can say is I am so glad I did, as it is one of the richest and rewarding games I haveInitially, I read many reviews on Witcher 3: Wild Hunt before making a decision to purchase it. Metacritic is one of the first place I read up on games as I find user reviews a more honest assessment. After reading both negative and positive reviews, I took the plunge and bought this game. All I can say is I am so glad I did, as it is one of the richest and rewarding games I have experienced since I started playing video games back in the 80's.

I will start by writing off many of the negative opinions I read on this site. One common gripe was the control mechanics. I won't lie, the Witcher 3 feels slightly different to other games, some would say clunky and irritating. I couldn't quite put my finger on why this was so, until I played a remake of Resident Evil1 and then went back to the Witcher. It feels clunky to some people because of one thing - physics. In real life, if you run or sprint, realistically you cannot just stop dead in your tracks, like in most games. There is something called momentum which will take you a bit further in the direction you were running. The Witcher 3 is realistic in this way as if you are running and then stop running, Geralt will take another step or two to stop. Also, the left analog stick independently controls the pace of your movement. So if you want to walk, you slant the analog stick slightly in the preferred direction. To run, you tilt it the full way. Many games have a button to toggle walk and run, (which in my opinion is outdated) and I think this where the frustration comes in. The only other mechanic/button used to toggle movement speed is to sprint, which is x (Cannot be used indefinitely as sprint is determined by the amount of stamina you have). Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with the controls, you just have to adjust to it. The mistake people make is that in a very populated environment, like in a thick forest or even in a building with lots of walls, people tend to start running immediately which will end them up face first into a wall or tree, then they still moan and say the control mechanics are to blame.

The second biggest gripe I read about was the 'flat' landscape and environment. I don't think these people have ever been outside because most of our planet is generally flat. If you have ever played Red Dead Redemption, the landscape is very similar, especially the first huge area you get to explore. Later in the game where you reach the Skellige Isles, the landscape becomes noticeably a lot more mountainous and dangerous, which high peaks, canyons and generally a more hostile environment. Ultimately, the world they have created in Witcher 3 is extremely realistic. We also need to realize that to travel faster to unknown areas, you go on horseback. It would not make sense to have this extremely jagged landscape as it would be impossible to even use horseback as a means of transport. If anything, the landscape is one of the pros in this game.

The only problem I have had with this game so far, (and they have probably fixed it with a patch by now as I have noticed a few other minor things being fixed) is the very beginning of the game after you leave White Orchard, there is an area in Novigrad, where the music seems intermittent, almost like a skipping disc. I remember reading someone complaining about this. For me, it only lasted a few minutes, but never again since then and I am at the end of the game. I think people got the idea that the whole game had this issue, where it does not. Annoying at the time, but like I say an issue they have probably fixed.

On to the positives. I could literally write an essay on how incredible this game is in every aspect, but I will touch on each briefly. The graphics are mind blowing. You can see it was a labor of love, every single thing in this game looks handcrafted, the detail is simply amazing. The environments are full of life, and from an cosmetic point of view, the characters and objects in the world are believable which creates an immersion I have not experienced in a long time. It is a rich world, teeming with life, just wanting to be explored.

The story and dialogue is probably the best I have experienced in an RPG, and I have played and finished many RPGs including games like Baldurs Gate, Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls series and many more. This simply is top of the bunch in that respect, I'd say Skyrim is a close second.

The quest system is diverse and the actual quests themselves are interesting and backed with the aforementioned well driven dialogue and stories, none of them have been a tedious task to complete. In some games, all the 'impressive stuff' is at the beginning , but as the game progresses the lack of content and diversification seems to show through. Not with this game, in fact it is the opposite. The more you play this game, the more interesting the quests become and the more you get sucked in.

This game is an absolute gem, if you haven't got it, I suggest getting it ASAP.

CD Projekt Red are my favorite developer right now, for good reason. Not just for the quality work they've done with the Witcher series but also because of their business practices. They continued to support the game by releasing free DLC which included new armor sets, hair/facial hair options, outfits for other NPCs, weaponry, AND new quests. All that for free, in this day and age? It's wonderful. In addition, they are releasing 2 expansion packs. Actual expansion packs with new locations, characters, storylines, and so many more hours of content. They really lift my spirits when seemingly almost every other developer/publisher wants to just defecate out a game, and support it for a limited time with paid DLC.

    Cons:

The only downside to this game that I see most people complain about is the combat. I can understand why, it is sort of basic. You're essentially limited to swords (although there are axes, their stats are almost always outclassed by Witcher swords) and the crossbows are more of a tool to stumble enemies/bring down flying enemies. But there are some other ways to make combat more interesting. Witcher signs (spells) that you can cast, and potions to collect and craft. All in all it was good enough for me.

I have received a platinum trophy on this game and beaten the expansion and played for over 300 hours and am still looking forward to the next expansion. It deals with adult themes that are not dealt with in many other RPGs and the characters have much better voice acting, expressions... long story short, I just cared instead of rapidly skipping through the nonsense dialogue with a feeling that it was childish. I could go on and on about the combat, exploration, etc, but it's all good. Expand

I wasn't the biggest fan of the combat at the time and felt that the multiple aspects had a hard time transitioning to the console. However after having a drought in games to play I decided to jump into Witcher 3 a few months after launch, and it was the biggest mistake I could have made because I should have got it on Day 1. Even before inserting the disc into the game I was greeted with an insert from the developer thanking me for giving there a game a chance by purchasing it. Never before have I as a consumer, in any form of entertainment or product, felt that the people who worked on something truly valued the support I was giving them. But back to the game itself. For whatever reason I decided to play the game on the hardest difficulty, which I completely recommend of anyone whose played any open world game or rpg like Skyrim or Red Dead, and was pretty much stopped in my tracks by any horde of enemies. However the most pleasure from this game is in the preparation required to defeat enemies using such as signs, potions and oils to defeat enemies. Overcoming a hard boss that you've prepared for or finishing a long string of quests to unfold more of the story in Witcher 3 brings more excitement then I've ever felt for a game before, and that's because of the incredibly detailed open world rivaling the likes of The Elder Scrolls and Grand Theft Auto. Even the mini game of Gwent has become a phenomenon in itself and I feel heavily compelled to play every npc in this card game just so i can get access to new rare cards, an online component would have been amazing, but a separate game such as on the app store, the PlayStation store or Xbox marketplace would be an instant purchase for me. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is a 10 out of 10 for me, its a beautifully detailed open world rpg that deserves a look. Expand

Frankly, the best next gen title, if not one of the best games of all time. The people who rate poorly? They are the ones who don't want to admit that Fallout 4 is not going to win GOTY and will lose even to Tomb Raider, Bloodborne and even SWB. Witches 3 is going to hands down win GOTY.

    Why?

For one: the detail. Every single NPC in the world, right down to their tiny animations, is believable, realistic, with thousands of tiny conversations going on that make the game feel like a real, living, breathing world. "Oh but don't let yourself be distracted by the polish (polish, not Polish)."

Two, the music is top notch. I am amazed by the beauty and passion put into the music.
"Oh, but good music doesn't make a good game."

Third, the graphics. Every single piece of the world is crafted with such care I spent hours upon hours just looking at the detail. The light catching on blowing trees, tiny little details in the herbs that you can pick, the amazing detail in the armor, the blowing fur in their cloaks, Geralt's hair.
("Oh, but graphics don't make a good game... hurrdurrrrr Fallout 4").

Fourth, voice acting and script. Top notch and emotional. The baby scene was literally the most traumatizing thing I've ever experience in gaming. ("Oh, but having hundreds of voice actors and tens of thousands of written lines acted out perfectly with PERFECT animations and timing and even emotion conveyed through animated eyes, doesn't make a good game.")

Fifth, the sound design. Absolutely perfect. ("Oh, but having sound design that is Hollywood blockbuster tier doesn't make a good game.")

Sixth, character development. Top tier. ("Oh, but Geralt's voice is boring. Why is an American in medieval Europe?")

Seventh, world design. Massive, massive, massive, detailed, incredible.

Eighth, gameplay. For the intelligent player who can literally decide how he wants to play. Want to just hypnotize your enemies and let them kill everyone for you? Or want to just knock them all to the ground and stab them while they're laying there? Maybe you'd prefer to learn the difficult but perfectly developed combat system to become a master swordsman?

This is a 10/10 game, if I've ever played one. Play this, not Failout 4.

Any criticism leveled at this game is really off the mark... there's no way anyone who has played this game with an objective mindset could say that there's something wrong with it. I spent 300 hours in the game looking for problems, and I couldn't find any other than the flying body glitch (fixed), a small sound glitch when you first attacked with your sword, and some other tiny minor things.

I've been playing Witcher since 2007, so it's great to see the series opened up to more mainstream and still be successful. For an open world rpg game, the level up system is not as good as Fallout 4, however the mutagens offer some interesting power increases. Card game is fun, but nothing epic. I do appreciate the effort that went into creating such a mini-game in-world.

Game difficulty is a breeze once the game mechanics are competently understood, but that can take a few levels so Death March was hard and challenging at first, but then became quite average, if not easy. I think you will have to weigh dying and waiting for reloading times versus challenge factor and see what is most fun for you.

Overall, I had a blast playing this game and am yet to find something better for the 2015 year.

    The good:
Graphics are amazing, especially considering the size of this game and its world.
Vast number of characters offering something new and entertaining to the story.
    Soundtrack is amazing.
Story is one of the best of 2015 and in my opinion the best in any RPG to date.
Great RPG elements that affect the overall story.
Hugh world that has a place and environment for everyone.
Tons of side quest and missions to keep you entertained for hours.

    The bad:
With all the content, some might feel overwhelmed. However, I think most RPG fans will love the amount of content offered.

This is a most own game for any RPG fan and one that shouldn't be looked over. If your still having doubts about buying this game, then due your research and you will realize what everyone else is trying to tell you. "It's a must buy!"

Every side-quest defies your expectations. There are no mindless fetch quests in this game. from my experience. I enjoyed every single side quest and monster contract I took on. Every single one. Which is really rare...because i have come to expect LESS from game companies these days after a series of "AAA" disappointments from North American studios.

Just when you think you know where the sub-plot in a quest is going, it takes a twist. And another twist. And you are faced with REAL, CONSEQUENTIAL decisions. Not the meaningless **** decisions that have zero effect on the game world you will find in Bethesda's Fallout 4.

Consider this, I have not played any previous Witcher games, and I have no idea what a Witcher even was before playing this game. However it completely drew me in. I couldn't stop playing. I think I've put in more than 50-60 hours playing at a leisurely pace, and finished the main story and all the main side quests. Yet I have explore only 25-30% of the OPEN world portion of the game. There are VAST forests and caverns with interesting, useful loot, and monsters roaming the wilds that I have yet to kill.

I cannot say enough good things about this game. Maybe because I've been so disappointed by the shallow, soulless "products" made by North American studios: Fallout 4, Diablo 3, Farcry 4, WatchDogs,

First of all: The game is massive! I don't think any open world, as rich as the northern realms, is that large. And not only is it massive, but it's alive, and active! There is always something going on around the corner of the woods where the leshens creep, there will always be creatures in Novigrad, where the children weep.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is a majestically magnificent master piece, it is my 580th game that i Tried / Finished but it ended up in one of my top 3. The game is colossal & amazingly excellent in every perspective.

    World Design :
Game world is colossal & gorgeous, excellently designed with exclusive & extensive details such as fallen trees are regrown just like in real life, burned or cut down portions of forests, Dead whale on a shore & various type of fish under water are just very few such examples.
It is a Living breathing world monsters will also attack other animals, wolves will hunt rabbits & dears. During cloudy weather you will be able to see clouds moving in the sky & shooting stars at night.
Game have excellently implemented dynamic weather cycle, day and night cycle as you will see a dramatic difference between day and night life.

    Visuals :
Graphically game is stunning and even more gorgeous after the latest patch. Animations are top class and facial animations are impressive.

    Narrative :
Story is impressive and easy to understand, no matter how many or all the side quests you play; you still wont get lost. Game offers the opportunity to enjoy company of beautiful characters & decent humor.
Choosing dialogues is one of the best part of the game & Dialogue options are one of the best with various types of choices with provides an enjoyable experience.

    Unique Features :
Witcher 3 have some unique features that you wont find any where else such as Geralt beard physics. Other examples are :- On Skellige : Gedyneith (Name Of Place) there is A House Under A tree when you visit that place for the 1st time you will see a dude plowing in soil but when you go there later you will see plants. You will see many changes in dandelions inn & main hall in Kaer Trolde castle throughout the game.

    Combat :
Combat is enjoyable, addictive, tactical and superb both ways offensive & defensive. AI is intelligent & will use various defensive measures. Despite high level enemies you still can defeat them with tactics & patience.
Other than basic close combat and ranged weapon, there are bombs & sign abilities (Basically Magic). You can use your ability points on skills but will choose wisely b/z you cant acquire them all as it is an RPG With choices & consequences, But you can reset them with potion.

    Other activities :
Beside side quests there are witcher contracts and treasure hunting, you can also participate in horse racing, boxing & playing cards. The card game is also very fun & extremely addictive.

    Replayability :
I doubt that some one will play this game once as of the colossal dialogue choices. The game felt vastly different while selecting different dialogues through second game play. I finished it twice and i am gone buy Complete addition & play it all over again.

A near masterpiece which facilitates any type of player that's hoping to invest a *ton* of hours into a phenomenal story which takes you on a beautiful journey and really tugs at your heart strings. CDPR have done Andrzej Sapkowski's (Creator of Witcher series) work complete justice. The sheer detail present in the world's diverse landscape, complexity of characters and nuanced decision-making with *significant* consequences are all cutting edge progressions in gaming. After what CDPR has brought to the table, I think people will no longer accept lazy writing and meaningless black and white role-playing from developers, which is a win for everyone.

You don't have to have played 1 and 2 or read the novels to enjoy this game as I know many who played it this way and loved it. The game delivers easy access to lore and backstory into the earlier games and Sapkowski's universe throughout. That said, the novels (which all take place right before the first Witcher game) are amazing in their own right and I would recommend playing Witcher 1 and certainly Witcher 2 (also brilliant), just for the maximum experience. Furthermore, if you are the type of gamer who complains that the Last of Us is 'too much like a movie', then you might not enjoy this game, as it is very story driven. 100% completion of this game probably requires 150 hours gameplay and 50 hours of cinematic cut scenes and dialogue, give or take. Anyway, to rate w3 pros and cons:

Main Story: 10/10 - Everything has already been said praising this aspect of the game. Draws more familiarity and lore from the novels than 1 and 2. All in all, brilliant writing,

Characters: 10/10 - Introduces notable characters from the novels, many completely new and some brilliant reappearances from the 2 earlier instalments. Nearly all major characters have dynamic personalities and will become very memorable, even long after you finish the game.

Combat: 8/10 - Better than your average hack n slash button mashing, especially on the harder difficulties which I recommend playing on. Can get repetitive after a while though.

    Graphics: 10/10
    Side Quests: 10/10
    Exploration: 9/10
    Player choice: 10/10
    Dialogue/voice acting: 10/10
    Soundtrack: 10/10
    Crafting/Alchemy: 9/10

    As for the cons:
-There is a few minor bugs and glitches that pop up through the game which can be irritating
-The hundreds of supply caches in Skellige is rather lazy imo, reminds me of ubisoft
-Looting system is rather hit and miss. Lots of diverse and useful items for crafting and alchemy but the level scaling means rare weapons/armour you find are often below your level and therefore pointless.

Generally speaking, the negative things i discovered were really minor and hardly detracted anything from the overall magnificence of the game. In reality, I would give this game a 9.5, but I would say it's closer to a 10 than a 9. Now, I await Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

First, the game is LOADED with boring sub-plots and cut scenes. It’s okay though because you can skim the subtitles and skip through the cut scenes fairly easily without much risk of missing critical information. So I guess that gives players the flexibility to pay as much or as little attention to the plots as they want.

Second, the world seems to be divided into several areas for purposes of loading into RAM. But often you have to jump back and forth between these areas, and it gets annoying repeatedly having to view the same comic-book-like cut screen and monologue while an area loads.

Finally, most of the skills are worthless relative to other skills. If you experiment with all the skills, it becomes pretty obvious what the “best” skills are to improve. So, if you re-allocate your points (which is possible using a potion) to the best skills, you become virtually invincible. At that point, you’re just playing through the story without any realistic challenge.

    Overall 10/10. Just get it.

You must also know that this game feels more like a story than an RPG. I had no problem with that, but if you have a small attention span then you might not like this game. Otherwise, it's a must-have game for die hard role-playing fans.

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
