Great game! It took me about 12 hours to slowly reach level 5 (I wasn’t in a rush). Considering I just found a weapon schema requiring being level 30, that’s a good sign that I will be playing this game for 100-200 hours. That is an amazing value for money. And, that’s even before any of the upcoming free DLCs. The future is looking great!

The open world is beautiful. I saw people complaining about this world not worthy of being “an open world”. They don’t know what they are talking about. This isn’t a corridor game. This isn’t a “Destiny open world” either. It’s a massive world and you can pretty much go wherever you like. Only in a while, they block access to an area mainly to prevent the gameplay from unravelling too quickly.

The gameplay and storytelling is of very high quality. Goof variety of choices (spare them, kill them, insult them, be nice, etc). The fighting system is responsive and fluid.

My four small annoyances with the game are: the fiddly inventory system (Witcher 2 system was better). The game text is too small (read the studio is working on it – I activated PS4 “Accessibility” feature in the meanwhile). The movement first step is often awkward and off (obvious when in building trying to loot (steal) items). The video sequences, even if high quality images often lack the smoothness in their movement (surprisingly with the techs of these days).

One of the first things I would like to mention is how barely anyone is mentioning extremely long loading screens, up to 1 min, and don't forget that it is much longer than bloodborne, and no one bats an eye, so its quite crazy to almost no notes about that. Second the movements are quite unresponsive, especially in the water, but thankfully you don't have to stay in water if you choose not to. The horse movement is even worse, random and sudden stops, which is extremely annoying., similar to geralts stopping for a fight if you are constantly trying to run away from enemies. I'm not mentioning frame drops, and technical stuff, because it's been mentioned many times. So with all the criticisms over, I wont get too much why it is very good game, but I will let you know that even though its fictional, the reason why its good is because it;s believable, people are believable as wells as their stories, the world is believable as well. It's very maturely executed overall and that what has been missing for quite some time in gaming world. It is certainly a game that will be remembered for a long time, and I would definitely recommend even if you're not an RPG fan (like myself). Expand

Overrated, hyperhypyed, very bad game. Poor voice acting, witcher whispers to himself, and somehow others hear him), incoherant character movements. Everybody in the game looks like robots. Action sequences are poorly designed. No an once of proper collision between objects, characters and the surroundings. Terrible graphics. Boring storyline. To avoid.

It is arguably the single greatest RPG I think I have played in 15+ years. And I have played most of them.

It has 4 minute fetch quests with more compelling story and interesting characters than the main story line of Skyrim.

There is a constant sense of exploration of wonder that actually manages to surprise you over and over again. Not since the days of Baldur's Gate II have I felt so consistently amazed at the places and things I encounter in an RPG.

And best of all, in the most positive sense of the expression: This is not a game for babies. There's racism, sex, cruelty, drugs, moral ambiguity, and more disturbing monsters than you've seen in any other game. You will not be coddled, your actions will have far reaching consequences -- many of them not immediately apparent, and if you walk into the wrong area and attack a the level 20 golem guarding a chest when you're at level 6, you're swiftly reduced to a blob of red paste in the forest floor.

The world design is incredible. It feels like a real world rather than a bunch of sewn-together set pieces. Not to mention the beautiful foliage. Makes Dragon Age III look like a golf course by comparison. The sound design also merits special mention. There's so much carefully crafted ambiance everywhere. Last but not least, the dynamic weather effects are beyond anything I have seen in a game to this date.

The whole game just oozes of the love CDPR put into it.

There are some minor warts, such as the controls which take a moment to get accustomed to, and the inventory interface isn't the most brilliant in the world, but they're barely worth mentioning.

12/10 - Game of the decade.

Good games these days are rare to find and TW3 lives up to its hype! I am personally not a story-type-of-gamer. My background is MOBA (no longer), FPS (no longer) and RPGs. I am a passionate soul player and recently finished Bloodborne (which I rated 10/10). I love complexity and challenges. I've played all games from MMOs (WoW to AION (and FF11)), to FPS (CS, COD and BF). Owned many consoles and loved Skyrim.

Here is why you should buy TW3:
    - The world is HUGE - to a point that curiosity invades your soul (Skyrim fans will love it)
    - Graphics on PS4 are good!
    - The story.

Now as I mentioned previously, I don't really dwell into the story when it comes to video games. I believe a better gameplay will always overshadow a good story line. Skyrim and Fallout are the only 2 games I really take time to read notes and story. That being said, the story line in TW3 is THAT good that it is REALLY hard not to LOVE IT. I am completely ADDICTED to side quests (not as much for the main story). The dialogue is great and really funny if you like black humor. I never hit the skip button (unless I have to talk a second time to merchants).

The reason why I am rating this game a 7/10 is:
    -1 combat system
-1 bugs (please fix it ASAP)
    -1 frame drop rate

    1) I personally dislike the combat system in TW3. The camera is really awful and 5 hours into the game, it really started to piss me off until I found that you can easily switch between multiple targets. Eventually I got used to it and 40 hours later, I am still loving this game.

    2) Bugs need to be fixed. I am not talking about glitches which are fine. I guess. I mean REAL bugs. Some quests don't work and I still have one pending quest in my journal (whom I already received the reward for it but still listed under treasure hunt). I crashed 3 times playing GWENT. And got stuck on several occasions. I also find sometimes crates or whatever to be hard to loot. You need a specific camera angle for it which is annoying.

    3) I am currently playing in Velen and the swamp is really laggy. Frame drop rate and bugs everywhere. Feels like the game isn't really polished. One of the quest (Baron going back to find his wife) - good luck lag and bugs feast.

Still on v1.01 hoping to get a v1.02 soon. Need a solid 1.1.

Should you buy this game? Yes. Will you like it? Yes if you are willing to ignore bugs (until fixed) and poor combat system (you'll get used to it and once you gain more levels then it's much more playable NOTE: I'm playing TW3 on Death to March mode - so camera and combat system really matter imo). Will you go for the plat trophy? Quite likely. I am!

    It's a good game!

I think this game will become legendary. Witcher 3 is just too awesome and vast. I could not cover all great details here. This is the first game I gave perfect score although actually I would like to give it 9.7 due to the long loading time and the game depends a little too much on gears. However, I would like to say the game improve much from Witcher 2.

    The World - Perfect open-world

The World - Perfect open-world with a huge amount of details. Graphic is great. Character designs are god-like, they feel so real. Game length is so immense. I spent like 20 hours and I think I haven't reached 10% of the game yet.

Story - Very good, no complain. (but I think witcher 2 is better in the beginning part, well, I think I have to play more, I havn't finished the game yet)

Combat System - works very well. Although, if you compare with Bloodborne, you may feel that it is a little clunky. Well you need to know that Bloodborne is expert in that area so it will be hard for any game to surpass that. However, Witcher 3 combat system also has its own merits. You need to stay with it for a while. Be more patient, this game does not want you to be as aggressive as blood borne but to be mindful and strategic.

Music - Don't see any flaw in this area. Voice acting is great

Additional point - You can play card game in Witcher 3 + you get a real map from your box and good manual hard copy.

That is all, In sum, If you like Skyrim, this game is a must play for you. If you have never played RPG open world before, this game is a good epitome for you to see what a perfect open-world rpg game is, you should give it a try. If you don't like Skyrim, there is a high chance you will not like this game also.

The environment and landscape sets a new standard for open world games. Cities are big. The villages feel authentic in looks and layout, and their inhabitants actually work peasant activities along their farm animals, its a living world far better than modded skyrim can do .

The bad side is a only a handful of small small bad design choices on matters of character controls, maps and level-ing.

Also the RPG dont usually have something amazing that it will blow u away or some kind of inovation of some sort, they just give u a huge map and everything else is pretty much the same with less effort-since the DEvs have to create the whole map...
However,Witcher 3 grows above every single RPG game i have ever played and if ppl really thought that Dragon Age Inq was a big hit or something then kiss my ass, because this game is at least 2 times better than Dragon Age Inq which seems like a child's game in fron of the Witcher

    Pros :
    Extrordinary graphics,
    Outstanding voiceacting,
    Amazing Facial expressions,
Interesting story with decent conversations and characters,
    Amazing depth with monsters,
    Huge Map,
    Nice combat fights(for an RPG)

    Coins :
If there is something that would be the kinda-often Frame drops which seems inevitable with those graphics,
Also, the combat seems kinda frestrating with the signs,te dodging, the running out of combat...

Overall,a gorgeous game-ofc i have to mention that i havent play the previous 2-however i had a lot of expectations on this game and there were pretty much right!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. May contain spoilers. Summery - Story: 8/10. Missions: 7/10. Aesthetics: 10/10. Audio: 8/10. Game-play: 7/10. Content: 9/10. Controls: 6/10

In-depth review - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a brilliant game. Having sunk many hours into it, I have seen and done much but not nearly everything. It has taken me around 30 hours (not including exploration of which I have done around 10) to get to the near the end - I am just a few missions away. So, I have decided to share my thoughts on this staggering game.

Story and Missions - As I said, around 30 hours and I haven't quite yet completed it and personally, I find the story a little boring and long-winded with the missions being a bit too repetitive. However, I have scored them an 8 and a 7 respectively because, my personal opinion aside, they are well written and occasionally very interesting with some well put together characters.
But personally, I found the missions all too much the same - go here, mop up a room of hostiles or take on a monster, return for pay/information on Ciri. The almost endless stream of speaking to someone who wants you to find someone else so they will tell you where the person you're looking for isn't just wore the experience down for me. Throw in an often dry and lengthy story while talking to someone and getting nothing from them beyond more "find area, search for clues, find nothing and move on" missions and it really took the wind right out of my sails which too often made me put the game down. You may like it which is why I am not judging based on personal preference.

Aesthetics and Audio - The sounds of slicing someone's head clean off or severing their arm and head from their torso is rather horrendous... which is why it is fantastic. The detail they have taken to the bulk of the audio is brilliant. However, there are many sounds that just seem clunky and almost don't match. Galloping a horse across sand makes a muffled, scratchy sound - like hitting a wall wearing a Hook and Loop glove - yet in the game, it sounds like 2 halves of a muffled coconut smacking together. Also, the music tends to either not really fit or just fade into the background making it a bit of a waste. Aesthetically, the game is beautiful - very well-crafted and each section looks almost like nature itself had created it. The detail on the creatures and people of the land are actually very good and feels as though someone had actually been there and recreated the man and beasts as CGI. Bugs and glitches are relatively common, but none I would consider particularly game-breaking and I won't mark the game down for them as they can be fixed in patches and so fourth.

Game-Play, Controls and Content - Here the game stumbles a bit. The controls tend to be quite counter-intuitive, clumsy and very sluggish at times - often too much of the time. Times I have wanted to go from jogging to sprinting and Geralt has stopped and extinguished a fire or I have been stood in front of a flame and he has opened a container of loot or I have wanted to draw a sword quickly and he has taken his time, seemingly pondering the complexities of the universe while a gang of thugs roll on me, are simply too often. However, once you get a rough handle of the controls (after many hours) they still feel a bit awkward, but, aside from the occasional muck up, can pull themselves together. I have explored a great deal of the world but there is still much much more left almost begging me to explore it. I wouldn't say it is as seductive as say Skyrim's world - and by that I mean I haven't as often seen a cave or castle and been drawn in - but this is mainly due to it being mostly out in the open, whereas Skyrim and Oblivion, there was more mystery in not being able to see into a cave before entering. However, it is very interesting and so airy, I actually enjoyed just walking through a plain or a Forest or something; even without seeing anything off interest as it was just so lovely and pleasing a place to be.

Overall verdict - Staggering and beautiful land with plenty of interesting and well-crafted inhabitants - man and beast - but let down by clumsy controls and somewhat repetitive missions giving a score of 8/10. A great game, definitely worth getting - especially if you enjoyed Dragon Age: Inquisition and want to explore almost something like an open-world version. If you just want something to fill The Elder Scrolls gap while waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI, then I would advise you dabble with the story, not going too deeply just to see if you like it, and just enjoy the world. Enjoy responsibly - a friend of mine adores this game and he used to have a social life before he purchased this.

-Combat and movement in general are horribly clunky. It feels like swimming in molasses. I'm coming off playing Bloodborne, so I guess it's hard to have an experience as good as that game's dynamic fighting. Tracking enemies is stupidly hard as the lock on skips around.

-Along with movement, the mount and looting are are far more complicated than they should be. Overstepping things should be a game achievement.

-This is not an open world. It's like Dragon Age: Inquisition where they story pushes you from large zone to large zone.

    -The story? ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

-Items? Jesus. How much crap do I need? Why do RPGs feel like loading me up like a pack horse equals awesomeness?

-Weapon durability. I have to repair my swords after every 5-6 encounters.

One underestimated part of this game is Gwent. I have spend a good 6-7 hours just finding cards and building a deck/decks and I still have a lot of work to do to get even my first deck how I want it/completed. There are 4 different types of decks and so far I only have one full deck, and as I said I still have room for improvement on that first deck. As a geek card player I find this rather amusing, and I also like how it's almost like a complete game in itself.

As with all RPG's you can't expect to run before you can walk. Myself, having just given around 300hrs to Bloodborne + DS2 at first found the combat system in Witcher 3 a little clunky. Having said that, practice makes perfect and the more I play the more natural it's feeling to dodge and parry. As an RPG veteran the Soul's games are the best in category.

A couple of dodgy mid air floating boxes doesn't distract from the overall technical marvel of this game and the world is gorgeous. There is an abundance of things to do and should be done in a lazily fashion. Take your time, lust over its grandeur and you will be awarded with one of the best RPG experiences around.

So i wanted next gen Skyrim.
    At first all i could do was focus on things that were not like Skyrim and i actually considered taking it for a refund. I looked at it differences and saw them as flaws. That being said the game does have issues;

Roach doesn't follow the paths he's supposed to and rides in the wrong direction.
I have been getting stuck on things walking and riding.
During the tutorial i fell from the castle walls because the movement mechanics are not easy and jerky.
The camera angle when using Witcher senses is squashed and awkward and you use it a lot.
Looting and examining abjects isn't always easy because of the camera angles.
Geralt's voice is annoying and at first you notice all the time.
The text and pictures in the inventry menu is very small and could be easier to use
    Climbing could be better.
    Swimming mechanics are difficult.
    It isn't Skyrim.

Other people have also mentioned other issues like popping and stuff which i've seen and when you are already disappointed with something you start to pick holes everywhere..

Now the reason i marked this as a 10/10..

Despite all those issues and the disappointment i felt i decided to give it more time, maybe it would get better and the story would draw me in.
I have now been playing the game for 3 days and i am so glad i stuck with it because it's really grown on me. All the bad points about the game that i focused on mostly don't bother me now or i don't even notice them anymore because the game is actually so good.

The story is great and the soundtrack is excellent. The open world is massive and full of detail. I was only playing in one area for ages and when i finally progressed with the story more i got to see some of the larger cities/towns and they look amazing! then you start to see just how big the game is and how much detail there is. You can go into nearly every building and look around and they are all full of details it's not empty rooms. You get used to the way Roach rides around and the same with Geralt's movements, swimming is still difficult but i have improved and it's not really a big issue for me. The details to this game are what make it so good. The colours are so rich and you do find yourself taking in moments when there's a sunset or sunrise and everything is a golden orange colour. another great thing is that you don't have to wait everytime you enter a building or room, not like Skyrim.

There are some things that i would have liked to be different in the game like be able to switch to first person sometimes i want to see things closer up especially when there's so much detail, combat would also be better in FP. Being able to climb like in Assissn's Creed would have giving it another dimension too.

This really is a great game and it gets addictive, i think like me a lot of people will be put off by the first hour or so of the game where you getting used to how it works but after that it's all fun, hrs and hrs of fun!

I hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

This is coming from a guy who enjoys Dark Souls, Monster Hunter series, God Eater, etc.

And we all know how much dodging and rolling there is in games like Monster Hunter.
But Witcher 3's rolling is just.. Unsatisfying, overly obsessive rolling and spinning.
Monster Hunter's rolling = precise timing to dodge a hit that would otherwise kill you. Rolling eats up your stamina bar so every roll has it's purpose.
Witcher 3's rolling = You might as well be the Tasmanian Devil. Because spinning and rolling is the new style. I think Geralt is dancing and spinning like a fool when he attacks and its always the same.
He does switch the swords automaticly in this game.

CAMERA while fighting is the worst CAMERA i have ever seen in a videogame, really and this game has such a high rating?
Story is good, but for the most part people are talking nonsense when you speak with them.
graphics have a downgrade but are still looking good.

I could possibly score higher but I feel a positive 7.5 from where I am at in the game is acceptable. I think I am a bit jaded via playing so many of these types of games, the first thing I did was go walk around the land looking for secrets and trying to discover things, well that as it turns out is not really what this adventure is about, it is more about the story they are trying to convey and where that will take you. Everyone do this test; Watch how in his first two steps after you first push on the controller, they are really slow steps, and then he moves into stride - It's terrible. What precision and control is possible with that ?
Then this test: run straight and then immediately push directly left or right on your gamepad - after that turn, Geralt stops slowly, turns like a slow moving robot, and then moves again. It's insane.
The basis of the main characters movement has gigantic flaws that makes this game unplayable.
Not only that but all his movement is sugglish and non-resonsive, and when the combat is difficulty already, it makes the gameplay in the Witcher 3 an exercise in endless frustration. And it was built this way. AMAZING.

The players animation when on rocks, against trees, sliding down a hill etc, is all terrible. The physical connection of Geralt to this nice looking world when exploring, is awful.

If they fixed the controls, the combat would still be really boring. None of the early enemies showed much intelligence or proved an interesting or visceral fight. Hit by weapon animation when you hit the enemies leaves no strong impact, and the AI behaviour in combat very soon into the game feels very repetitive. Sure you have some strategy with the Signs, but it's still in a dull combat system against plain enemies.

The positive: is that some of the writing is vastly improved from the Witcher 2, and even most games.
But you have to spend such a long time traversing what is a pretty nice designed world, but that setting quality is still not high enough on it's own and for all that imposed length extending traversal imperative, or as compensation for the really poor controls and gameplay.

I've played lots of JRPGs and some pretty complex ones, but the Witcher 3 has to be the most overwhelming experience I've ever had getting started. There were just too many tutorials one after another that seemed to never stop. This was amplified by the fact that the font is incredibly small!!! I have a big tv and its still small! This is very annoying. The user interface is also not very organized and confusing to manage for new players. After awhile, I started getting used to it, but it never felt intuitive. Another huge issue for me is the controls. The controls feel really awkward and I was constantly pushing the wrong button. Also, picking up materials was extremely annoying as it was hard to read what you are picking up and you have to angle the camera at just the right point. The character's movement also felt sluggish and awkward, like controlling a big semi. I also wish the minimap could be enlarged as opening the main map everytime to see the bigger picture was frustrating. All these things were annoying but could be forgiven if the game was actually fun and interesting, but I didn't enjoy the combat because of the clunky controls. Also, the story wasn't that interesting. Just lots and lots of talking. And the dialogue wasn't captivating, just boring and put me to sleep. Lots more issues, but you get the picture. One thing I liked about the game was the music. You really felt like you were in a faraway land. Also, the game has an incredible amount of detail. The problem was at times it felt too overwhelming. I think they put too much into the game. It would've helped to focus on certain elements and cut some things out. I think people who enjoy western rpgs will really like this game, but gamers who don't like going out of there way to learn how to work the game on their own and want intuitive controls and clear and easy to understand tutorials will not enjoy this game. This game is for the most hardcore RPG players.

The level, the customization is everything in this game, you cant simply add ability points, you need to link that with your combat style, with your way to play, with your way of live in this world. Books, stories. Imagine a Skyrim with more dense and fluid combat system, add an alive world that changes all times by your actions and decisions, now, you're only 10% of what TW3 is capable.

Quests: They dont exist only to you level up, gear up, or end the story... They exist to make this world alive, i hate sidequests, but here you cant ignore them, they're as rich as the main ones. This game defines next-gen RPG.

Actors/NPC: Facial expressions, finest voice action, fluid smooth, you imagine the NPC is really there, is not just something to tell you the story, they're alive in this world.

Mine final opinion: This a must for an action gamer, a must for an rpg gamer, a must for FPS gamer, a must for everyone. This game change it all, to me it enter the same revolution as: Chrono trigger, First Doom, Final Fantasy 7, Half-life... This is the new level of future rpg, cant imagine if is even possible to match with it. Giving this game 10/10 is unfair, you cant score this game, like you cant score the industrial revolution, the french revolution, WW's.

The graphics are not tip top and don't expect to be blown away by them, but saying that they are good enough to get fully involved in the game. Graphic whores will be disappointed. There are a few bugs which have been more funny than ruined my gameplay experience. It is very similar to Dragon Age in the way you move from area to area but feel with this concept it helps the game run smoother whilst exploring. Yes its not the full open world of skyrim but (for the console players) don't have to wait 30/60 secs every time you enter a building. Try not to get stuck on a bit for too long though (talking of loading times) because the reload back into your game when you die is a painful and have made refreshments, in another room and come back to find it still loading.
I would advise not to listen to people who wont enjoy the game due to the graphics not being as good as they though or there being a few bugs. I played around 35 in the first 48hrs of release (Don't say it I know) But my point being I'm at work now and still can't wait to get back home and continue my quest.

This game is golden. I don't want to give it 10 out of 10 simply because I barely started playing it with 5 hours in the basket, but so far, it showed me something great...

It showed me what Dragon Age series could be if it wasn't governed by the biggest scumbags in the industry, that is EA. Don't get me wrong... I really enjoyed Dragon Age Inquisition and would gladly give it a solid 7

It showed me what Dragon Age series could be if it wasn't governed by the biggest scumbags in the industry, that is EA. Don't get me wrong... I really enjoyed Dragon Age Inquisition and would gladly give it a solid 7 out of 10, it had some good points, it had some bad points, but it was a pleasant experience... But since I /just/ about finished DAI and jumped straight on the Witcher I can see how these games should actually be!

Everything Witcher 3 does, it does better. World is "semi-open", just like in DAI, but it much, much better in scope! It feels more alive, have more NPCs and a ton of things to do on your very own. Side Quests are /brilliantly fun/ and engaging instead of the classics of yore, like "go kill 10 things" or "deliver this **** to the other side of the map, plox". The amount of things you can find, collect, craft and explore is outstanding for a game that isn't fully open world, like for example good ol' Skyrim... Not to mention, the game looks just brilliant; textures, light, even drawing distance... It is truly enchanting.

Fighting is another thing that make it fun. Okay, so, yes, a lot of reviews will tell you that fighting is nothing unique, innovative or brilliant, but it is also not bad at all - just a good, entertaining system without a flare. I can agree with it, but I'd like to add something to it... Fighting system in Witcher 3 can be as fun as you, player, want it to be. You can just plough through most fights with basic attack & roll, patience and one sign you like to use, sure. But if you truly want to be a master Witcher that literally tear apart any beast that comes into sight, you need to explore every bit of the mechanic and invest your time into it... Brew tinctures, potions and oils. Prepare bombs. Master the 'signs juggling'. Understand the attack patterns and skills of your target. And most importantly, REALLY read the bestiary file since the amount of info you can get from this thing is outstanding. If you do all of this, trust me, you will feel like a true expert in slaying monsters, and you will realize that all this tough fights suddenly became easy as cake when you take your time to prepare for them...

So far though my biggest joy of Witcher 3 is, well... The Script. Writing. It was always a major standpoint and feature of this series, to never make any character, even the lowliest NPC a one dimensional dork. There are no "shining pure Knights" or "Dark evil people" here. Everyone meddle in the grey zone. Everyone do bad things for different reasons, or their good deeds never go unpunished. Every choice you make (and there is a massive amount of them!) can turn back on you in the most twisted, curious and unexpected of ways. It is thrilling!

Another great point is a simple fact, that the writing is /GOOD/. Characters talk and seems real, they are cynical, sarcastic, snappy, impatient, but also jovial, energetic, enthusiastic, disgruntled... Whole spectrum of emotions, both in spectacular voiceovers as well as, gosh golly, face mimics and movements. Maybe it strike me so well because I just finished Dragon Age Inquisition - which had great voices and good acting, but the models of characters during dialogues were stiff, unmoving, sad mannequins. Here they really seem so alive! Eye shifting all the time, eyebrows working, jaws clenching, lips curling, hands moving around, stance changing. You can SEE their emotion on their bodies and faces. It is truly great...

If you are looking for a challenging RPG with amazingly good and overfilled world, fun quests, mature script and awesome scope, Witcher 3 is going to suck you in and you will sink too much time into it, trust me :D

The running control is strange. Close to perfection if you'd overlook that. But you won't. It's big. You can feel it all the time.

Homosexual themes in DA: Inquisition? Forget it. In the Witcher 3 you're tasked to kill a stillborn turned into a monster (also a product of home violence) few hours in.

So, what's wrong? Basic gameplay mechanics are literally broken. The controls on PS4 are jerky, sluggish and imprecise to say the least. The menus are also hard to navigate, especially if you want to do something quick. Combat would be fine, but weak animations and omnipresent framerate drops make it more of a struggle than fun. To sum up, gamplay and the overall feeling of the game is very poor and, for me, gamebreaking.

For the record, I'm from Poland, so I have every reason to praise this game as a national product. But I can't. Sunked **** of time in Mass Effect, DA: I, Bloodborne, so I may be spoiled by "western RPGs". But at least they all got the mechanics right. I get the feeling that the Reds were too ambitious here and I have a bad feeling about Cyberpunk making the same mistake.

Un-installed the game for now. I recommend waiting 2-3 months, so that the game is patched properly, to a playable state.

The combat is MILES better than the prequels, kinda reminded me of Arkham Asylum, it seems that combat style is trending,

I would've liked a combat more on the Darksouls/Bloodborne side, you know how on those games you feel the weight of every attack you perform and it seems this game would benefit more on that kind of hack/slash, but that is just my personal view, the combat is really good.

The one thing that people is really complaining about is the camera. It is kinda clunky, but that's why you can go into settings and decrease the sensitivity on the camera. It still isn't perfect but at least it was enough to help me on combat, where i tend to move the camera a lot and the original settings would make me kinda dizzy.

    Pros:

    Monster battles awesome
    Lore is engaging
The Card mini game is by far the most fun mini game in a video game. I don't know if it is a good thing or bad thing but I'd rather play the card mini game than the actual game.

    Cons
Control Scheme takes some getting used to. It feels clunky but after you realize that you actually have to walk instead of run in certain spots and time your attacks more it will feel more natural.
Frame rate issues. Not as bad as Assassin's Creed Unity but still there
The story gets boring the only thing keeping it interesting are the character themselves NOT the overall story.
The combat doesn't really feel that fun sometimes. After a while you will realize that the enemies do the exact same moves over and over again. (I just came from playing Bloodborne which has near flawless combat so that could be influencing my opinion of the combat in the Witcher)
Open world Curse: This game keeps the same mechanics of other open world games. You go to a point on your map then you go to another point kills enemies then talk to someone and repeat all over again. I would have preferred you stumble across a very interesting building you go inside and see someone dead on the floor then you have to figure out who did it, find them and then take it from there. There are to many dead bodies and NPC's that after a while you don't care about any of them at all. Instead of going point to point let the player do something fun at every place instead of just talking to characters.

Overall this is an OK game. If you love open world RPG's then you will probably love this game. I dislike open world rpg's I found skyrim, dragaon age, fallout, etc. very very boring but yet I can still play this game so I'm guessing it is one of the better RPG's made.

First I must say I had really high expectations for this one, maybe because the hype was huge, but well.. that's what CDPR wanted us to feel so I let myself go with it. Day 1 buy.
Graphics are very good, but not something we've never seen before.
Story and role-playing is amazing, the true value is here!! Soundtrack is not fascinating, sometimes it is even annoying, but don't mind this

Now what really prevents it from being a 9 or a 10 is..
The controls and mechanics... It feels like the we're back to gta 3 or something.
The movement is poorly calibrated for sensitivity (you can only change camera sensitivity, not movement). You find yourself constantly struggling not to hit random people. Taking stairs and ladders is one hell of a nightmare. Mounting the horse is hard as well, you have to aim at the horse, figure out how not to run into it, make a full stop and press X (X won't work if your'e moving. same applies when looting).
    Combat mechanics are less bad.
Fix this and you have GOTY.

Witcher 3 is great game, one of the best next gen RPG out there. After 10+ hours in game I have following output:
    - great story , dialogs, voice play 10/10
    - great graphics on PS4 , however clunky at some scenes 9/10 - steering might be improved, especially swimming 8/10 - great crafting system 9/10 - exceptional side quests with serious moral dilemmas - you will not see such things

I'm giving this game strong 9/10 - it's better with story than Dragon Age Inq , and Skyrim, however a bit worse in fights and battle system than Shadow of Mordor (but still - in many ways it's similar).
This is must have, and this is great candidate for GOTY.

The world is vast, utterly gorgeous and littered with content. Comparisons to Skyrim are inevitable and understandable but this is a different animal. For all of Bethesda's prowess in building open worlds, their narrative structure and character development are somewhat impersonal and "old-fashioned" (not to mention the terrible anti-climactic endings!). CD Projekt is more in line with Bioware in these regards and here is where the most obvious comparison lies- how does it compare with Dragon Age Inquisition?

DAI was a great game and a step in the right direction for Bioware. However it had some short-comings particularly in the quality of its content. Too much of it was superficial and had no bearing on the greater world either in consequence or in fleshing out the narrative. In spite of my limited time with The Witcher 3, it's already very apparent that it does not suffer the same problem. Without giving anything away, the few side quests that I have completed felt purposeful and nuanced; adding just that little bit more meat on the bone.

Graphically, The Witcher 3 is easily the best looking game of its kind. The attention to detail is immense and the day/night cycle with its dynamic weather lead to some very impressive vistas. The character animations and facial expressions are impressive considering the lack of performance capture (unfortunately simply impossible to do from a cost perspective on a game this size).

The combat is fast, fluid and very satisfying. Watching Geralt decapitate or cleave his foe in two never gets old! The skill tree is deep allowing allocations in all of your major skills- sword play, archery, alchemy and signs. There is also the opportunity to apply mutagens to your active skills giving them additional bonuses.

I've scarcely scratched the surface of this behemoth but the quality on display here is indisputable. I can't wait to see what the next 100 hours plus have in store!

Take a bow CD Projekt Red, you've done something special here!

Honest it takes the best of some past top RPGS and puts it into one great package along with its only great work. You will surely not be wronged if you buy this game and will find plenty to like truly one of the top RPGS of this generation and will be a candidate for RPG of the year and Game of the Year for sure if not winner in one or both of the awards. If you like RPGS this is a must buy and has taken over my game time from playing other great RPGS like bloodborne, dark souls 2 SOTFS, and Dragon Age inquistion. The RPG genre truly has had some great titles as of late and hope to see that continue as I love the RPG genre and and all its newer subsets as of late xD.

Quick advice for anyone having issues starting game, make sure before you start the game to let it fully update the game or you might have an issue starting the game as I found that if you let the game fully update you will not have this problem starting the game but if you try and start the game before or during the updating then game will get stuck at loading screen otherwise no issues to speak of on PS4 unlike issues I have had with getting Witcher 3 to finally run properly on my high end PC but that's whole other platform and not for you to worry about if your playing on console.

A Fantastic story with interesting characters you care about is mixed together with poor gameplay controls and a significant frame rate issue that is ever present.

Let this be a warning to those of you who are on the fence about purchasing this game. While there is an intriguing game in the Witcher 3, it is a constant struggle with both character movement controls and frame rate issues.

Let this be a warning to those of you who are on the fence about purchasing this game. While there is an intriguing game in the Witcher 3, it is a constant struggle with both character movement controls and frame rate issues.

I'm annoyed to see so many 9 and 10 ratings from both user and critic's alike as the issues in this game are unlikely to be "fixed" and ones that certainly affect enjoyment. You will find the poor movement controls rarely mentioned by critics, and the frame rate issue glossed over as if it doesn't affect the game or is a rarity.

** Movement controls ** are a fundamental design choice that the devs have obviously committed to; if it were thought to be poor, or could be improved upon, I'm sure it would have been done long ago. Some reviewers may say you will get used to the movement, but poor gameplay will always be poor whether you invest 10, 20, or 100 hours. From the start of the game until the end, it will be a struggle to control Geralt leaving you frustrated in a game that demands exploration.

** Frame rate ** issues are very evident and leave me wondering just how often the game even hits 30FPS. Fights with two or more enemies bog down and absolutely affects how you move and react. Exploration of towns and cities are similarly affected by poor frame rates, leaving animations jerky and lagged. Cut scenes can require loading screens, and often have frame rate and texture loading/pop-in issues. With frame rate issues affecting nearly every aspect of the game, it is unlikely that CD Projekt will be able to improve upon it substantially. It is more likely that we will be told a fix is in the works, aimed largely at getting potential buyers off the fence, but have to wait months for something that will only provide very modest improvements.

It is concerning that games such as the Witcher 3 can be released in this state. If the game can be optimized, the delays to launch should have allowed it. If the game cannot be optimized further, it is a wonder why the devs decided such poor performance was acceptable. While I enjoy very much the story, I feel burned by CD Projekt and all the review sites that failed to mention just how significant some of the gameplay and performance issues are.

Have a search for these issues (CD Projekt forum) before buying.

    Be careful of the hype.

The greatest game of the new generation. Astounding graphics, amazing and touching story, massive and living open world that reacts to your choices in a way or another and a very well crafted combat system.
The performance on the PS4 is quite good with the patch 1.01, and it will get a lot better if the next ones!

Awe inspiring effort who's only flaw is the camera and controls. I have just as much fun wandering around and taking in the aesthetics as I do completing quests. 9 out of 10....and the one point deduction is for the choppy controls. Can't help but wonder what this game would be like with smoother combat. Screw it, I'll get used to it.

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
