Witcher 3 is the continuation of the story for the Witcher series. You do not necessarily have to have played the first and second game to understand the story in Witcher 3; however it is recommended you have. Options are provided to allow dedicated fans to import their saved game data and new gamers to the series can use the defaulted world saves.

Witcher 3 is overall an excellent game and deserves many praises. High graphical fidelity (although lesser than what was displayed at E3), deep and meaningful storyline, great combat system, memorable characters and more. CD Projekt RED should pat themselves on the back for providing DLC's for free. Yes, you hear right; the DLC's we get are free and I am not talking about one or two DLC's. Thus far, they have released 14 free DLC's. CD Projekt RED sets an examine of how the gaming industry should be behaving when it comes to downloadable content.

Just a word of warning, dont play this game on Death March difficulty if you found the last game hard because it will kick your ass. I'm loving it so far but holy **** is it difficult to master. Oh yeah and the game is good too.

A truly amazing game! Hours I have spent roaming the vast world, completing the various side quests and leveling up my character, Geralt. Game play is solid, yet fluid. Finishers add even more satisfaction to your kills. I've gotten so lost in a side mission story line that I forgot that I wasn't do the main campaign. Perfect game! Easily recommended to anyone that loves a good story driven RPG.

Absolutely incredible open-world RPG with memorable characters and incredible writing. The mythological and fantasy elements of this game stand beyond the likes of Skyrim and Dark Souls (which is saying something), definitely going to stand as the most memorable game of this decade.

    On the plus side.
    The witcher:
    - goergeous nature, folliage, especially on sunset
    - many, so many beautifull anims
    - very good dialogues for the main quests
    - have to say that the main characters are beautifull and mouvements natural and fluids.
    - to my opinion, the Islands territory is the most visually pleasing
    - superb monsters !
    Skyrim
    - huge world with a ton of things to discover, a lot more than The witcher
    - more landscape diversity
    - battle stays chalenging at all level since the opponents level increases with the main character level.
    - presence of a chest to store valuable ( no such thing in the Witcher )
    - alchimy a lot more developed. In the witcher you can grab a lot of different things by killing monsters or picking flowers... but only a very small portion of them are usable. The rest you pick is for selling... they have the foundation for a great option to the game and missed it, for what I am concerned.

    On the minus sign
    The Witcher
    - see my comments above on Skyrim
    - repetitive faces... seen on the secondary characters (merchants for example)
    - repetitive and limited secondary quests

So, will The Witcher pass the Time test ? Will you come over and over replay this game due to it's absolute qualities and quests ? I don't think so. After a couple of time the game will take dust on the shelf.
Beware not to expect to much when buying the game. It is over rated.

The content is enough for weeks of fun. The graphics are good (altough not as stunning as I expected before the release). The characters and the story are impressively worked out as if the game is a quality novel itself. The same quality story telling as Witcher 2. The open world is large and you can enter plenty of buildings. This is why this open world is more impressive than GTA5, because in GTA 5 you can not enter buildings. The weather and day/night cycle are also dynamic and impressive. The wind really let the trees shake. Does it has flaws? Some minor. The controls are not always perfect during battles and sometimes you will experience framedrops in cities. But that are minor points against a game that is the new milestone in gaming. Any linear game looks completely outdated against this game. CD Project Red set the bar very high for this game and somehow managed to deliver. I would give it a 95 score. Altough not completely flawless, still one of the best games ever made. Expand

For all pessimists: this is not Dragon Age or glitched, easy Skyrim. This is a mature game with a great story, based on a rich, wonderful prose of Andrzej Sapkowski (highly recommended). Huge world, artwork, dialogues is a masterpiece. The game is not easy but people forget such productions as Fallout 1, 2, Baldur's Gate, in Europe Gothic 1, 2. Great game. Good job CDP Red. Poor optimization for console almost ruined this game for me, it looks great and all, but there's too many frame-rate stutters and lag while playing, I think this game could've been GOTY as a whole if it wasn't for these problems, still a masterpiece imo, and 1000000x better than Skyrim.

This game is the perfect example I'd use to describe why open world RPG's are my favorite games. As a fan of the Witcher graphic novel comics I was eager to see an amazing story be told in an open world RPG. As a fan of the Witcher graphic novel comics I was eager to see an amazing story be told in an open world RPG. At the same time I was a little worried, the Witcher short stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski are truly a work of literary art. The lore is rich enough to envision the entire world of the Witcher. Andrzei was able to paint an entire world so detailed you wouldn't have any transition going into the games after reading the stories. I doubted whether or not the game would truly capture what makes the stories so amazing, yet I was not only proven wrong but completely amazed.

The Witcher is unlike any RPG, where your choices do not have a clear "Good guy choice" or "Bad guy choice" instead you will be faced with choices that warrant deep thought be put into it before deciding. Just like real life, you'll make decisions that you thought were the right choice but only for them to end up having severe consequences. Just like real life you'll have to learn those mistakes as you progress through. Usually RPGs will have choices but their outcomes rarely change the story, they'll have cosmetic changes and maybe certain characters will react differently to you but there are no branching paths.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt improves so much upon previous titles. Witcher 2 had open sections of a story that you'd progress and move on to the next area. It gave the illusion of an open world but without the freedom. Witcher 3 has a vast world with many small minute details that most of which will go unnoticed. But for those few dedicated fans who love to scour the land to find all the nooks and crannies will be rewarded by doing so.

Crafting, character builds, abilities, the in-depth inventory and easy access to potions & spells makes the game feel comfortable to play. It takes only a few minutes to get used to the game and understand combat, however being skilled in combat will take some time and strategic planning. The game is difficult, as it should be. Reading the books and immersing yourself into the game will actually help you with combat. Books and knowledge provide insight on the lore as well as learning enemy weaknesses.

The story is still by far the best part of this game. To get the most amazing RPG experience playing this game, I highly recommend you make choices as you would if you were in Geralt's shoes. This adds immersion and really makes you think about your choices. Do not look up walkthroughs, exploration is one of the best aspects of this game. And I also recommend reading up on Witcher lore, it's incredible. From the Witcher's, the drunken hilarious Dwarfs that you'd be crazy to challenge to an arm wrestling match, the lore behind The Black Ones, the circle of Mages and the war of the crowns are all amazing tales to be heard.

I don't just recommend this game, I'm telling you this game deserves your purchase. This game will give you an experience that's more than worth the $60 price. Open world RPG's are not always given the spotlight in the mainstream gaming media but Witcher is definitely worth that spotlight. Open world RPGs and Action Adventure games are meant to give you a grand sense of adventure, exploration, immersion and an experience you won't find in other genres. Witcher 3 is an experience you won't forget.

    The good:
Story, world, atmospere... Developers really build big, beatifull, believable, living world. The Novigrad is biggest RPG city I have even seen. NPC have lots of different scripts (behaviours and dialogues). Wnen you are riding through the countriside, it feels really real and not static as other games. The story telling is great. The quests are long, interesting, full of twists. Quests are full of cutscenes and scripts, so playing them feels little like the Mass Effect and you are drag into the story. So if you are like me and you like to play the games for story, you will love this game. It will hook you and will have problems to shut it down.

    The bad:
Basically gamedesign. For some reason, the developers choose some really weird decisions about controls, menus and gamedesign. The game is contra-intuitive and many basic tasks has to be done in unnecessary complicated ways. It is not making the game harder, but slower. Some common tasks becames chores and you will hate them. Some examples: when you ancounter pile of bags and boxes you have to loot them individually (15 of them). Each containing one alchemy ingredient. Why it can not be grouped? When you encounter book, you can not read it immediatelly. You need to take it and then go look for it in your full inventory. Why? When you purchase new equipment, you can not choose buy&equip to be able immediatelly sell the old stuff. You have to end the dialogue, go into inventory, change your stuff, and start new dialogue and choose you want to sell again. Why? The crafting is actually multilevel process. You need to craft even your crafting components. So it is not obvious if you have enough raw materials. And building new armor becomes long process of searchign and bulding four another components. Why? When new character description is added to you glossary, it is marked by yellow star. But this dissapears immediatelly once you select it. So if it is the item you need to scroll too, these markers dissapers as soon as it appears on your screen. Making them useless and you can easily miss updated descriptions this way.

Basically none of these compains are real problem individually. But there is some many of these small unpolished details, that I fell like Im spending half of my gametime in menus managing the game instead of playing it. And we know from other games, it can be done in much easier and intuitive ways. So if you are looking for smooth gameplay and interesting action and you dont care about the story, you may and up really dissapointed.
Personnaly Im somewhere in the middle. Im really hooked to the story. But most of the Im crunching my teeth and cursing the game for these unnecessary mistakes.

Though this game has not as many dungeons as for example Skyrim, the world of The Witcher 3 does one thing particularly better; being authentic. This game's authenticity starts with architecture, goes on with the hardship of NPCs and ends with the clothing. The buildings are not like what one would expect to see in a fantasy game, their appearance is pretty close to the one I experienced from houses in very old towns of Europe (Germany, Poland, Czech). It is about the same with clothing; you will not find any badass-looking armour like the Daedric ones in Elder Scrolls games. No, they look much more simplistic and by that realistic. The Witcher 3 is a bit like experiencing a medieval world as it could have actually been only with monsters and magic. The combat is superb, excellent, the best I have ever experienced in a game. It is fast and you have to rely on your actual gaming skills, because Geralt is not going to learn any super powerful spells etc., though the leveling system is actually skill-based. Before fighting powerful monsters you might have to look up their weaknesses in order to facilitate victory. Nevertheless the combat system basically consists of well-timed dodging, parrying/ countering, striking and of course using witcher signs. After I had experienced massive lags and one game crash, The Witcher 3, with patch 1.04 installed, runs almost without any lags on PS4 now as well. It looks amazing despite the graphical downgrade, though you might encounter some blurry textures on rocks. As for me I have not encountered any major bugs, only minor ones like levitating people or weirdly flinging blood strains after killing drowners and I have been playing this game for more than 120 hours now. The Witcher 3 also contains a crafting system for amours, swords, potions, oils and other stuff. For most of them you need to find patterns in order to be able to craft them, which makes a new sword or armour a very rewarding item. Oh, what the heck am I babbling about? Just get the game if you have not already! If there is one fantasy game that deserves your money, it is The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt! My verdict for this masterpiece is a 96/100. Expand

A good story makes a game worth playing, along with good gameplay too of course which the Witcher 3 has in bucketloads. Loads of things to do and great graphics. For most part of the game, Witcher 3 is amazing. Graphics and art direction are superb. Alongside Last of Us, Witcher 3 is probably the best game out there in terms of characters animation. In many games the characters rely heavily on the voice acting. In Witcher 3 most characters have unique gestures and body languages. For example Witcher 3, Triss and Yeneffer are completely different in every way, they are not just different in voice and appearance. You just get the feeling those people are really characters of a fantasy story, they are not just flat npcs of a RPG game.

Another hit are the light effects and dynamic weather. Stormy nights, amazing sunsets or just the regular midnight moon. Every day and night in this world is unique. This and the open world freedom (you can even sail a boat here) will guarantee some unforgettable moments. I decided to first travel to Novigrad (largest city on the game) by boat. The sight of the city at distance was really striking. When I finally got into the city docks and looked to the west, the sky was burning with the dying sun. Easily one of the most beautiful moments I experienced in games.

The world is very well designe, for the most part. Vellen is a very unique land. South is literally no man’s land, full of swamps, monster and hopeless people. As you move north, you will find cities and populated areas. Remote areas are lair of powerful monsters. Side quests are well made, and most of them are worth a try. Far from the pointless stuff we had in most of Dragon Age Inquisition side quests.

The worlds story as a whole is very well told, and the amount of important characters is huge. You will only will realize it after you check the “characters” entry in the main menu.

Gwent card game is pretty amazing and addictive.

    The soundtrack is epic.

Well, even amazing games have their problems, and Witcher 3 has some that affected my experience with the game.

The game is far from supper polished. For example, in PS4 version of GTA V the open world is flawless. Even a remote area of the game is well made. The limitations of distant objects in GTA V are discreet. In Witcher 3,in many occasions huge objects are invisible even at close distances. Distant views are also bad. While GTA V could give you superb panoramic views of the city landspace, in Witcher 3 distant views suffer from the ultra low level detail. Everything in the distance is covered by a very ugly fog. Some textures in the game are just no acceptable in a PS4 game (red bricks in baron’s castle, for example).

The talk about the game’s size is everywhere. Its true the game is huge, but its due to Skellige, a complex of islands where most part of the map is water where there is nothing to do. I have to admit I got the feeling this area was a little rushed. Side quests are not as great as others (you won’t get more than 10 quests worth your time here). Local people are a cheap mixture of vikings and celtics. Every island in the area looks identical. There is not enough content in there to justify the size. There are basically 3 kinds of monsters in the whole area (those sirens…).

Story pace is pretty erratic. The game sets Geralt’s main goal from the beginning (find and save Ciri). The problem is, after the first hours, the game just forget it, and the game’s rhythm gets better only the final act. The amount of side content is a problem, because some of them are really important for the main story, and are note exactly "side" quests, for example, one mission is about the assassination of a king. Of course its mission is not a simple side quest. Its no only important to the lore, but later you will find out that this side quest, and some others, are essential in order to get the best ending. The choices are also problematic. The difference between a very bad ending and the best one might be a couple of simple dialogue choices. Another question is about this king trying to catch a witch, who will be present in the main quest later in the game. So at the end of the day the game pace is a bit problematic.

Menu is a bit of a mess. Combat system is far from superb. Crafting is not exactly intuitive (I had more fun in this aspect with DA: I).

Despite those problems, Witcher 3 is a very good game. Unpolished graphics, poor paced story and not so good combat system prevented it from being perfect. CD Projekt Red deserves credits for making a superb RPG game without the financial muscles of bigger developers and for respecting the gamers. In a time where day one paid DLC's are the rule, Witcher 3 gives you a decent amount of free DLC's week after week. The content in physical copies of the game is also a hit. You get a very beautiful map, cd with the game soundtrack, manuals, stickers and compendium. A relief in the 2 pointless flyers era.

Witcher 3 is an instant classic of action RPG games

The running control is strange. Close to perfection if you'd overlook that. But you won't. It's big. You can feel it all the time.
The glitch in moving makes it just too difficult to loot or gather ingredients, which is a vital part of the game.

Since I devoured all the books as a teenager, coming back to this world was like meeting old friends long not seen (a feeling strangely absent from my experience with The Witcher 1 and 2, neither of which I completed, by the way) and the game translates the world of the Witcher impeccably. This world also derives a whole lot from the ancient slavic and Polish traditions and legends, so you really need to be Polish to get 100% of the atmosphere. Yet again, if you don't speak Polish, you will have a great opportunity to experience something a bit different to your typical heroic fantasy reality. Don't be fooled by the "standard" medieval setting of the game - when you encounter mages concerned with "ecology", expansive empires championing gender equality, or a representative of a common folk discussing "democracy", you'll know what I mean. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a concoction of all the great RPG of the last decade. You will feel and see the accolades of games such as Dragon Age and Skyrim. I personally see glimmers of Dark Souls.

The narrative deserves an Academy-Award, and so does the Original Score: the Composers Mikolai Stroinski, Marcin Przybyłowicz and Percival have created a cacophony of sounds that only some games are fortunate to have.

Truly you are able to see the care and detail CD Projekt Red has put into the final installment in their critically-acclaimed series.

Now, one may ask. Is this game the best thing since slice bread? And my honest answer would be no, this game does have some flaws, even now two months after release i am still experiencing glitches and annoying bugs. Stupid things as my horse blocking the way out of a building, or the age old cliche of falling out of the world. But, apart from that, the game is... well... perfect.

It you love combat style of both Dragon Age and Skyrim, imagine them two combined together, that is what you get when you buy The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The developer mixes the combat up, you will need to think before you strike. Some enemies you'll need to have a tactical approach against and some other you'll be able to kill with not a second thought.

If you love RPG's like me then this game is an unquestionable- must buy. 10/10

The main quest involves exchanging information with various individuals for information on Ciri's location, your adopted daughter. It may feel slightly padded out, but is gripping nonetheless. Where this game shines is in the side quests, which also involve Witcher contracts, where you gotta kill monsters for your paycheck. It almost brings a detective-like gameplay element, I quite like it. Every single side quest has obsessive attention to detail, and, in my opinion, are better than the main quest itself.
The combat could use improvements. It may get repetitive at times, and the controls may sometimes get wonky, but it is still fun, with cool swordplay and magic. With each level tou gain, you can invest in certain skills to eventually unlock new and powerful moves.
The open world is absolutely gorgeous and dense with stuff to do. There will be many moments where you'll turn off your HUD and take a screenshot. With the latest updates, the framerate is a very stable 30 fps.
All in all, what makes Witcher 3 one of the best games of this generation, and my personal favourite RPG, is the story.

The cut-scenes are interactive and you choose what to say, but it´s not like for instance Fallout 3 where you´d stay static when talking to someone, the camera is constantly moving and gives the game a more cinematic look. The menus are simple and organized, there is a great emphasis on lore and information about the world of The Witcher 3, like for instance the creature´s glossary and character´s.
As for sound and audio the game features an amazing and in-context soundtrack, this soundtrack makes combat situations feel more tense and climatic.
The storyline isn´t boring at all as some other reviewers portrayed it, the levels and missions are well designed and I never felt bored while playing it.It follows the story of Geralt of Rivia as he tracks down his daughter-like ex-apprentice, the emperor´s daughter Cirilla, while she´s in danger and being pursued by the Wild Hunt, during the campaign you can also play as Ciri in some missions. The game offers tons of side-quests, contracts to kill monsters and a very fun a clever collectible card mini-game, the map is full of question marks which indicated events like hidden treasures, abandoned places that you can clear out, places of power that give you ability points and boost you and the list goes on and on.
The gameplay may take a little while, but for seasoned console players it´s going to be easy. The combat is fluid and diversed, you have two types of sword, silver and steel, one for monsters and the other for humans, in addition Geralt can also use the crossbow and he has the ability to cast signs which are kind of a lesser magical power, you also have the ability to craft weapons and armor to customize Geralt, and also potions, which give you boosts and are very useful when facing thougher creatures. There are finishing moves and they are brutal and amazing to be honest.
This game is a must-buy, it´s silly not to, it offers tons of re-playability and it´s so interesting and addicting that if you don´t buy it you´ll be missing on a mark of gaming. It´s hands down one of the most brilliant RPG´s I have ever played.

This game is what I've been waiting for so long. Truly immersive story line, where you really care about what happens next. Don't know how it goes for English version, but Polish voice acting is just great with lot of sense of humour. I already stopped counting hours spent playing Witcher 3, cause it's pointless. I know I cannot stop until it's finished.

"Why the story?", You may ask, to which I reply, because I got the bad ending and still feel gratified with my result. It's invoked powerful emotional responses in me which I have only found in other mediums like film and literature. I think the best part about the story is that there is never the illusion of choice. Everything you do has consequences, and some that you might not think would happen. You could do something that you believe to be the right thing which in the end leads to something horrible. Many decisions are very morally grey too. Do you kill 12 bandits to save one woman? The obvious answer is yes but when you see the woman horrified that you've just killed 12 men without hesitation, you question your code of morality as a whole. When a game has you make a decision that's great, but when you make a decision in a game and it makes you question how you makes decisions in real life, that is when a game is just as much art as Stairway to heaven, Lord of the Rings, 1984, and The Mona Lisa. If those who seek to undermine games as an art form where to play this game I am certain that 99% of their opinions would change.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This will probably go down as of the best games to come out in the last 2-3 years. The game does everything right from the combat to the character to graphics and story. Everything is brilliantly done. Sure there are a few glitches and the positioning of the candles are very frustrating the game itself is fantastic and is the best in its series which in itself is a big achievement considering how good witcher 2 was. The characters in the game are very interesting to interact with and the side mission are just as interesting. You get a variety of monsters that you can discover and kill by taking on witcher contracts, you can do side quests for different character to get a better idea about them. Even if you aren't doing the main missions there are still a lot of interesting quests to do. You can do treasure hunts, witcher contracts and even game gwent. The story is simply brilliant and there are moments when you can even see Geralt on the verge of shedding a tear.
All things considered this arguably is the best game out on the next gen consoles as of today.

When playing on lower difficulties, the combat is average at best and alchemy system becomes pointless. However, it's not a problem if you play on higher difficulties, especially "Death March". It becomes much more interesting and challenging, potions actually starts to matter. Game controls are comfortable, except when riding a horse. It can be very annoying in small villages, you often get stuck or bump into something.
You can't avoid bugs, just like in most RPG's. I personally encountered 2 game breaking bugs, which forced me to load the game, but it's not a big deal considering how much attention to detail was paid during the development of the game.
I also have to give a lot of credit to CD Project for making this game playable on PS4. On early patches the frame-rate was terrible, I felt like I played on average ~24 fps, but now I hardly notice a dip below 30. Truly a remarkable job, something that can't be said about some other AAA developers.

Combat is fun and exciting and lets you go in a lot of different directions. Questing is extensive and the map is littered with points of interest. Story line is interesting and keeps you on your toes by not holding to cliche's as much as it could (i love a quest that turns out to have unexpected consequences). Only problem I had with the game

Only problem I had with the game is if you are a obsessive side quest completer like myself, you will become godlike and the game breaks a bit and you have to go out of your way to find monsters that are a challenge. You'll also exhaust yourself and eventually just want to plow through to the finish to "get it over with". You don't have to complete every little thing and I think had I taken that approach earlier on I wouldn't have grown somewhat bored with the game before i finished it. Quests become a bit more of a checklist. Kill the griffin, check, kill the bog monster, check, kill the Basalisk, check.

That is my only real complaint, had the quests kept up with my level a bit more and not become a chore it would have gotten a 9 or 10. As is, amazing game, but you feel like you leave something behind when a quest says level 8 and you are already 23 and just walking through the daisies.

CDProjectRed has created a world that is so interesting, well-written, and graphically stunning that one would blame them for NOT creating hours and hours of content for it. It's this content that gives the game life, of the likes which gaming has never seen before. NPC's aren't just there to take up space, each one has a purpose and many have something unique and interesting to say. And this isn't just walls of text as you run from one NPC to the next, this is living, breathing dialogue that is delivered convincingly, as if it were a film. One thing is for certain about Witcher 3, and that is that one never questions the authenticity of the world.

The story continues to show CDProjectRed's growth as storytellers, improving on Witcher 2's already impressive writing. While the ending was a bit underwhelming, the journey to get there was emotional and riveting from even the smallest of side-quests.

    4. challenging but fair combat, even on Death March difficulty. Sometimes I even felt like playing darksouls, which centers on learning every moves of different enemies and designing your counter-measures base on the items you have and the skills and signs you gained.
    5. Engaging music, not your mundane heroic symphony which you can hear in almost every other big RPG titles these days. Witcher 3's score is more pagan and wild, also very blood-boiling, just the extra buff you need when facing an ancient leshen or fiend in a foggy, murky slavic forest.
    6. Humorously written. Let's face it, we've had enough of the blank face standard hero templates in RPGs. Witcher 3's dialogue is not only masterfully written but also can be extremely hilarious when it needs to be.

Metacritic is one of the first place I read up on games as I find user reviews a more honest assessment. After reading both negative and positive reviews, I took the plunge and bought this game. All I can say is I am so glad I did, as it is one of the richest and rewarding games I have experienced since I started playing video games back in the 80's.

I will start by writing off many of the negative opinions I read on this site. One common gripe was the control mechanics. I won't lie, the Witcher 3 feels slightly different to other games, some would say clunky and irritating. I couldn't quite put my finger on why this was so, until I played a remake of Resident Evil1 and then went back to the Witcher. It feels clunky to some people because of one thing - physics. In real life, if you run or sprint, realistically you cannot just stop dead in your tracks, like in most games. There is something called momentum which will take you a bit further in the direction you were running. The Witcher 3 is realistic in this way as if you are running and then stop running, Geralt will take another step or two to stop. Also, the left analog stick independently controls the pace of your movement. So if you want to walk, you slant the analog stick slightly in the preferred direction. To run, you tilt it the full way. Many games have a button to toggle walk and run, (which in my opinion is outdated) and I think this where the frustration comes in. The only other mechanic/button used to toggle movement speed is to sprint, which is x (Cannot be used indefinitely as sprint is determined by the amount of stamina you have). Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with the controls, you just have to adjust to it. The mistake people make is that in a very populated environment, like in a thick forest or even in a building with lots of walls, people tend to start running immediately which will end them up face first into a wall or tree, then they still moan and say the control mechanics are to blame.

The second biggest gripe I read about was the 'flat' landscape and environment. I don't think these people have ever been outside because most of our planet is generally flat. If you have ever played Red Dead Redemption, the landscape is very similar, especially the first huge area you get to explore. Later in the game where you reach the Skellige Isles, the landscape becomes noticeably a lot more mountainous and dangerous, which high peaks, canyons and generally a more hostile environment. Ultimately, the world they have created in Witcher 3 is extremely realistic. We also need to realize that to travel faster to unknown areas, you go on horseback. It would not make sense to have this extremely jagged landscape as it would be impossible to even use horseback as a means of transport. If anything, the landscape is one of the pros in this game.

The only problem I have had with this game so far, (and they have probably fixed it with a patch by now as I have noticed a few other minor things being fixed) is the very beginning of the game after you leave White Orchard, there is an area in Novigrad, where the music seems intermittent, almost like a skipping disc. I remember reading someone complaining about this. For me, it only lasted a few minutes, but never again since then and I am at the end of the game. I think people got the idea that the whole game had this issue, where it does not. Annoying at the time, but like I say an issue they have probably fixed.

On to the positives. I could literally write an essay on how incredible this game is in every aspect, but I will touch on each briefly. The graphics are mind blowing. You can see it was a labor of love, every single thing in this game looks handcrafted, the detail is simply amazing. The environments are full of life, and from an cosmetic point of view, the characters and objects in the world are believable which creates an immersion I have not experienced in a long time. It is a rich world, teeming with life, just wanting to be explored.

The story and dialogue is probably the best I have experienced in an RPG, and I have played and finished many RPGs including games like Baldurs Gate, Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls series and many more. This simply is top of the bunch in that respect, I'd say Skyrim is a close second.

The quest system is diverse and the actual quests themselves are interesting and backed with the aforementioned well driven dialogue and stories, none of them have been a tedious task to complete. In some games, all the 'impressive stuff' is at the beginning , but as the game progresses the lack of content and diversification seems to show through. Not with this game, in fact it is the opposite. The more you play this game, the more interesting the quests become and the more you get sucked in.

This game is an absolute gem, if you haven't got it, I suggest getting it ASAP.

CD Projekt Red are my favorite developer right now, for good reason. Not just for the quality work they've done with the Witcher series but also because of their business practices. They continued to support the game by releasing free DLC which included new armor sets, hair/facial hair options, outfits for other NPCs, weaponry, AND new quests. All that for free, in this day and age? It's wonderful. In addition, they are releasing 2 expansion packs. Actual expansion packs with new locations, characters, storylines, and so many more hours of content. They really lift my spirits when seemingly almost every other developer/publisher wants to just defecate out a game, and support it for a limited time with paid DLC.

    Cons:

The only downside to this game that I see most people complain about is the combat. I can understand why, it is sort of basic. You're essentially limited to swords (although there are axes, their stats are almost always outclassed by Witcher swords) and the crossbows are more of a tool to stumble enemies/bring down flying enemies. But there are some other ways to make combat more interesting. Witcher signs (spells) that you can cast, and potions to collect and craft. All in all it was good enough for me.

The gameplay is weird but action packed, it's better to play in the hardest modes otherwise it becomes too easy in mid game. Each enemy fights differently and forces you to use different tactics which is great.

The crafting game could have been better, they have tons of stuff to craft but I found that making the standard equipment was enough, and consumables are crafted once and they refill when sleeping which was a let down.

Great features compared with other games:

    - Forced male character without face customization and great voice acting (great, it's more immersive).
    - The character is not an emo, nor a chosen one, is not superman either.
    - The character may be a cheater depending on player choices.
    - The other characters all have different and clear personalities.
    - Best characters animations and modeling so far.
    - Best book adaptation I've ever seen.
    - Best horseback riding experience so far compared to Skyrim, DA-I, TERA.
    - Very large and open world and you can go anywhere at almost any level (some monsters cannot be killed at low level).
    - Very long and entertaining story.
    - Optional quests are not the typical "kill 8 boars" type. Instead they are of the detective type with clues you have to find.
    - Nice card subgame Gwent which is optional.

Things that could have been better:

    - The talent system is somewhat limited, there are several talents that are not very useful.
    - Crafting could be improved.
    - The filler NPC characters faces tend to get repeated often.
    - Limited replay incentive.

This game is an absolute masterpiece that puts to shame every other game in the genre released before it.
We could talk for hours about the almost infinite amount of content it has, but the most important thin is how well crafted that content is. Other games might rival it in size, but no other has such high quality in so much quantity.

The entertaining and challenging battle system, the great story for both main and even more so, secondary missions, the appealing and beautiful graphics, the leveling up and customization skill tree, and so on. Everything in this game has been designed which such care and love, you won´t be able not to love it yourself. Hundreds of hours of joy, and more if you add the expansions which maintain the same excellent level.

This one is for PS4, PC and Xbox One, so there is no excuse, if you like videogames, play it.

EPIC! I can tell you with a certain assurance, that most negative 'user' reviews are from gamers who didn't actually complete witcher 3 for various reasons, but mainly because the controls and gameplay are difficult. With that said, I had a bad time at the start, and I did not understand a lot of quests, or mechanics. But when I got into the game a second time, I had a total blast...EPIC! First of all: The game is massive! I don't think any open world, as rich as the northern realms, is that large. And not only is it massive, but it's alive, and active! There is always something going on around the corner of the woods where the leshens creep, there will always be creatures in Novigrad, where the children weep.

Those of you that have been to Las Vegas can understand my analogy. When you spend time in a Vegas casino, it absolutely ruins casinos for the rest of your life. No other casino will ever live up to it. Other casinos will keep your interest, it was be fun, however, in the back of your mind you will always compare the casino you are in with a Vegas casino. Welcome to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It has ruined every game for me so far after playing it. Fallout 4....boring. I wished I played Fallout 4 before I played The Witcher 3! The greatest game I have ever played! Let us put the graphics aside, because nothing compares in that area. The story is amazing, the fighting is great (except on horseback). I am about to play the main story-line for the third time. Expand

The Witcher 3 is by far the greatest modern RPG to date. All aspects from character development to the enriched story that has been weaved together in a beautiful way are simply marvelous. One of the best gaming experiences ever. If you have enough time, I mean a lot of time, because you will take months playing this game, this a mandatory game for everyone. Only other 2 RPGs made me feel so involved: Zelda, a link to the past (SNES) and Final Fantasy 12 (PS2). Yes, I'm an old player.
    What is awesome:
Gameplay Battle system History Music Graphics What is bad: frame

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
