I'm not usually a fan of "Mini game" type things in RPG's but even the card game Gwent has me hooked trying to acquire the unique cards and beating the best players.

The choices you make throughout the game can have dramatic consequences either immediately or further down the line which often makes you think about your choices and responses to people.

Anyone who is a fan of huge open world games should buy this, you won't be disappointed. 10/10.

This game so far has blown me away with excellent storytelling and characters. The only game that I have played where the sidequests have really meaning and weave in and out of the main story. The whole world feels alive as well, my only gripes are some of the technical foibles, including framerate drops and occasional glitches. Either 9.75 or 10 from me.

The Witcher 3's open world as well as the Main, Secondary and Witcher Missions are fantastic. Simply put, it is refreshing to have an open world game that didnt miss the mark like Dragonage: Inquisition.

Can i talk about how addictive the in-game game GWENT is?!?!? terribly addicting. I felt often times i should just collect gwent card across the kingdoms instead of fight monsters for hidden treasure or continuing the unbelievable story for fear it will end. 10/10, i really don't see how this doesn't win game of the year.

Main thing about this game is that it respects your money. It took me more then 40 hours to complete the story mission and almost 72 hours to complete main story+ Hearts of Stone+ Blood & Wine. And if you complete the side quest then in total it will take you more then 200 hours.

Generally I find myself bored with side quests in games because they feel like mundane fetch quests or have weak stories. In the Witcher 3 each side quest will make you feel invested in the story and give you something fun to do on the way. My fiance wants me to play this game all day so she can watch the amazing story unfold. The writing is good and only sometimes you'll find yourself off put by the dialogue. The choices you can make in the game feel like they have weight to them. The soundtrack is beautiful, scary, and just downright chilling. The music is seriously too good. The physical copy came with the soundtrack on disc and I love it. There is just too much to say about this game. It is a game that takes you to a new world. It makes you want to be there. You feel like Geralt, a monster hunting, mutated, sexy, cunning, bad ass mother ******.

There are a few bugs with in the game, but nothing that kills the experience and CD Projekt Red works hard to fix them.

This game is a must buy. I am really picky about giving perfect scores, but this is a near perfect game. A+

I like that you start off with some decent abilities as well as a mount needed to traverse the world. So far, the only thing I don't like about it is that its much easier to find the quest area than it is to find the people responsible for it . Example: I got a quest from a bulletin board (how original, right?) and went to the quest area. Once I was there, I forgot something that I needed and had to go back to the village and find the person who I spoke to about said quest. It was really difficult to find this person as there is no marker that labels who it was. The marker only shows you the objective on the world map. But this is such a minute complaint. The Witcher 3 surpassed my expectations and is a definite must play for anyone who enjoys a challenging rpg that is rich in story as well as game play. 9/10 Expand

The combat is MILES better than the prequels, kinda reminded me of Arkham Asylum, it seems that combat style is trending,

I would've liked a combat more on the Darksouls/Bloodborne side, you know how on those games you feel the weight of every attack you perform and it seems this game would benefit more on that kind of hack/slash, but that is just my personal view, the combat is really good.

The one thing that people is really complaining about is the camera. It is kinda clunky, but that's why you can go into settings and decrease the sensitivity on the camera. It still isn't perfect but at least it was enough to help me on combat, where i tend to move the camera a lot and the original settings would make me kinda dizzy.

Averall it exceeded all my expectations and would gladly recommend it to any fan of the series, if you are new to the witcher, I'd recommend playing the prequels first, since it will enrich your experience, if you don't have time to, find the lore online which is incredibly interesting.

This game is golden. I don't want to give it 10 out of 10 simply because I barely started playing it with 5 hours in the basket, but so far, it showed me something great...

It showed me what Dragon Age series could be if it wasn't governed by the biggest scumbags in the industry, that is EA. Don't get me wrong... I really enjoyed Dragon Age Inquisition and would gladly give it a solid 7 out of 10, it had some good points, it had some bad points, but it was a pleasant experience... But since I /just/ about finished DAI and jumped straight on the Witcher I can see how these games should actually be!

Everything Witcher 3 does, it does better. World is "semi-open", just like in DAI, but it much, much better in scope! It feels more alive, have more NPCs and a ton of things to do on your very own. Side Quests are /brilliantly fun/ and engaging instead of the classics of yore, like "go kill 10 things" or "deliver this **** to the other side of the map, plox". The amount of things you can find, collect, craft and explore is outstanding for a game that isn't fully open world, like for example good ol' Skyrim... Not to mention, the game looks just brilliant; textures, light, even drawing distance... It is truly enchanting.

Fighting is another thing that make it fun. Okay, so, yes, a lot of reviews will tell you that fighting is nothing unique, innovative or brilliant, but it is also not bad at all - just a good, entertaining system without a flare. I can agree with it, but I'd like to add something to it... Fighting system in Witcher 3 can be as fun as you, player, want it to be. You can just plough through most fights with basic attack & roll, patience and one sign you like to use, sure. But if you truly want to be a master Witcher that literally tear apart any beast that comes into sight, you need to explore every bit of the mechanic and invest your time into it... Brew tinctures, potions and oils. Prepare bombs. Master the 'signs juggling'. Understand the attack patterns and skills of your target. And most importantly, REALLY read the bestiary file since the amount of info you can get from this thing is outstanding. If you do all of this, trust me, you will feel like a true expert in slaying monsters, and you will realize that all this tough fights suddenly became easy as cake when you take your time to prepare for them...

So far though my biggest joy of Witcher 3 is, well... The Script. Writing. It was always a major standpoint and feature of this series, to never make any character, even the lowliest NPC a one dimensional dork. There are no "shining pure Knights" or "Dark evil people" here. Everyone meddle in the grey zone. Everyone do bad things for different reasons, or their good deeds never go unpunished. Every choice you make (and there is a massive amount of them!) can turn back on you in the most twisted, curious and unexpected of ways. It is thrilling!

Another great point is a simple fact, that the writing is /GOOD/. Characters talk and seems real, they are cynical, sarcastic, snappy, impatient, but also jovial, energetic, enthusiastic, disgruntled... Whole spectrum of emotions, both in spectacular voiceovers as well as, gosh golly, face mimics and movements. Maybe it strike me so well because I just finished Dragon Age Inquisition - which had great voices and good acting, but the models of characters during dialogues were stiff, unmoving, sad mannequins. I sunk 3 hrs into this game upon release and I must say its 3 of the best hours ive gotten in gaming in a long time! Pretty good graphics mainly the backdrops and scale. They improved the fighting system dramatically from the Witcher 2. I have a feeling ill be dropping many many more hours in this beautifully made game!

I have not played any of the other Witcher games so I went in having no real expectations. So far the game is amazing. I am having a blast. What makes this game so great in my opinion is the attention to detail, combat, easy to control, and the skill tree system. I wont go into the skill tree because I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but it really is pretty cool how CDPR incorporated the different skill sets and signs. (signs are basically different kinds of magic spells). The world is visually stunning, and massive. Not to mention its jam packed with things to do and places to explore. The reason I gave The Witcher 3 an 8 rather than a 10 is due to the somewhat choppy frame rate. It isn't bad enough that it makes the game un-playable, but it can however make for some frustrating combat scenes. Knowing CDPR this will be fixed with an update soon enough. I also can not stand the swimming mechanics. You will know what I mean when you try to loot a treasure chest that is under water. Other than that and Geralt's super annoying voice the game is great. If you look at the negative reviews you will see very quickly that those users have no idea what they are talking about. One guy gave the game a 5 because he didn't like how Geralt looks or sounds like. HAHAHA are you kidding me? Says a lot about someone who doesn't like a game because of how a main male character looks. Anyway the game is worth a try if you are a fan of RPGs. The graphics are incredible for how massive and detailed the world is. The combat system is easy to get used to. Kind of reminds me a little of Shadow of Mordor, but not quite as good. The sound is fantastic, and the level up system is fun and easy to use. My advice for those who never played a witcher game is to make sure you are at the same, or above the experience level any main story mission might have. Expand

IF your looking for a huge open world with alot to do and see this is the game for you! i am confident that CDPR will put out a few patches here and there for the camera lags and the few minor bugs the game has at this time. but even with these this game is amazing. All i can say is become a witcher youll love it!!!

One last thing. i suggest that you play through the first part of the map called white orchard. this will allow you time to level up and have a slight advantage when moving to velen/novigrad. so search through white orchard go to all of the undiscovered locations and explore! HAVE FUN!

the witcher 3 is the best rpg games i played. the game is addictive... the main quest, the side quest, the contract, all with good character acting, good writing and pacing. the dialogue and how the choice affects the game is done better than bioware's titles imo. the graphic is amazing, i paused my game several times and ask my wife to look at, she said it was just beautiful!! I played 4-5 hours every day for three weeks and just finished all the quests... what an experience... i told my wife what is going on with Yen and Triss and asked her who should I choose, because,,, i just wanna have them both.... she told me to choose Tirss which I liked more and I got a happy ending with Triss!!! but it is sad to tell Yen that i have no feeling for her... anyway, i just want to say the romance here has done better than the bioware's titles again, imo..... the game has a few emotional moments, i almost teared when Ciri screamed...
i can always have fun at mediocre games or grinding games, but rarely i found a game with so much love the developer put into. i respect them and love them.... thanks, CD red, you are so talent and awesome!!! a 10/10 game without question...

I'm writing this review a full month after launch. I want to qualify my 10 by saying this is NOT a perfect game. Here's feedback I think you'll find helpful:

    The Good:

*Story - I can't say enough (now that I'm really 75% done with the game - something no one who reviewed it the first week could say) how the story here is the bread and butter. NPCs have never been more memorable or believable. Side quests are more like "side stories" where Geralt stars as super-fantasy detective rather than fetch quests. Counterpoint: There are so many stories that even this new inventive quest style feels a bit stale by the end of it unless you take breaks.

*The World - The first 10 - 30 hours of Witcher 3 are dominated by the swamp lands and plains of No Man's Land and White Orchard. I believe Developers would totally change White Orchard now if they could and give it the grand depth of Skellege and some of the more remote parts of the world. It's huge, it's got everything you want to see from a western fantasy RPG. Counterpoint: There is nothing here that hasn't been done in western RPGS before - nothing like the hard-to-imagine landscapes Final Fantasy creates.

*Crafting & Loot: Collecting and upgrading Witcher Gear is a blast. There are 5 sets (Serpent, Bear, Wolf, Griffin, Cat) and each has at least 4 tiers of upgrades. The plans for these upgrades are hidden throughout the world in usually inventive out-of-the-way places that are fun to experience and explore. The gear looks very cool - and by the time you get it to high level, the complete look for Geralt is something you'll enjoy seeing in cut scenes, and you even have a passive ability you can level up to enhance the gear you wear based on type. Counterpoint: You don't have enough storage to keep all the gear you'd like to build and mats so the game forces too much inventory management to enjoy the crafting system fully

    The Bad:

*The Controls - Everyone agrees this is the worst part of the game. It's worst when you are trying to talk to someone or open a chest and you are right next to them yet you cannot click on them. You tap your controller and you somehow bump into them, causing a scene and not helping. Totally breaks immersion. In battle the controls are bad as well - but not as annoying as interacting with npcs and objects. Particularly, the roll often over shoots and objects from the environment that shouldn't cause enemies to be out of reach. (I didn't talk about the horse, but I could have). Counterpoint: The devs have released several patches to improve the worst aspects of the game. I do believe this will improve moving forward.

*The Difficulty - The game is cake - literally. I started on normal, was at hard by hour 20 and was at hardest difficulty by hour 40. I suggest all serious gamers start on the hardest setting. Why? Because it's most fun to play when you engage with the systems and role play Geralt. You're a monster hunting detective and you need to use everything at your power to overcome these awesome beasts. Epic battles where you worry about your potions and sign use are far more satisfying than hack-n-slash that happens at normal difficulty. I do hope an extra hard setting is released along with NG+ at some point. Counterpoint: This seems like the type of balancing that can still take place, so maybe this complaint goes away.

*The Size - no matter how you slice it, the game is so big it's overwhelming. There is simply no way to do everything in it with any reasonable expectation of finishing soon. It must be handled like Skyrim and Fallout - given over to those games that you just accept you may never do everything in. The problem with this is that the way its presented really wants to make you see everything in it more than Skyrim. This produces fatigue at a certain point. Counterpoint: Anything lengthy produces fatigue - like a Marathon, or getting a law degree. So you just need to weigh if Witcher 3 is still delivering on what you want out of video games or if there is something else out there. I don't really see this as a serious complaint, but it is true and I do feel fatigue and need to seek other games to play every so often.

For me - the 10 represents that I've spent more time and obsessed more over this world than I have any other game in years. I highly recommend it.

What's remarkable is the time the developers even spent on side missions. Many are varied and there's self contained stories throughout the game waiting to be uncovered. Mixed in is a side game called Gwent which is a pretty fun card game and had me putting about 20 hours or more. It's fun going all over the world searching for new players and earning new cards.

The open world is massive and the best I've ever experienced, along with the day/night time change it adds a level of depth to it all. I urge anyone that is on the fence to give it a try, the story, voice acting and character models are all excellent. The combat is fun and varied, similar to games like the Batman Arkham, Shadows of Mordor combat. It requires a great deal more skill on harder difficulties.

It makes me truly wish they made this into a TV series, in the hands of a good company like HBO or Netflix it could rival Game of Thrones.

Also the RPG dont usually have something amazing that it will blow u away or some kind of inovation of some sort, they just give u a huge map and everything else is pretty much the same with less effort-since the DEvs have to create the whole map...
However,Witcher 3 grows above every single RPG game i have ever played and if ppl really thought that Dragon Age Inq was a big hit or something then kiss my ass, because this game is at least 2 times better than Dragon Age Inq which seems like a child's game in fron of the Witcher

    Amazing Facial expressions,
Interesting story with decent conversations and characters,
    Amazing depth with monsters,
    Huge Map,
    Nice combat fights(for an RPG)

    Coins :
If there is something that would be the kinda-often Frame drops which seems inevitable with those graphics,
Also, the combat seems kinda frestrating with the signs,te dodging, the running out of combat...

Overall,a gorgeous game-ofc i have to mention that i havent play the previous 2-however i had a lot of expectations on this game and there were pretty much right!

Outstanding open world RPG that blends stunning artistic style with a refreshing level of challenge that doesn't go out of date very quickly and having spent a reasonable amount of time with this game after wanting to try it out for a while, I have arrived at the conclusion that it is a very well made and thought out game, with a very keen eye for detail.

The game itself is beautifully realized; visually I can safely say it is one of the best examples of a true next/current generation game. With amazing lighting and fairly spot on textures, although a little rough around the edges at times, it has maintained a solid and consistent frame rate for me. Character modelling is very good, animations are nice and facial modelling is also very good. Enemy detailing is also very nice and some bosses have their own unique 'skins' if you will, allowing them to stand apart from their lesser compatriots. Monster design on a whole is unique and feels fresh; the creators not afraid to make up their own creatures as opposed to using set models the likes of which are usually featured in this type of game.

Gameplay on a whole is very good from my point of view, even playing on normal difficulty there is a good level of challenge to be expected, as described by one CD Projekt Red employee: "it's on a scale between Skyrim and dark souls" with some of the harder difficulty levels edging closer to the dark souls side of the spectrum. Supplemented by a vast amount of lore and tying in very nicely with the in game bestiary; the crafting system plays a vital role in the game. If you are to beat the harder enemies in the game you are going to want to take advantage of the knowledge you acquire in order to craft potions and oils; to aid in your fight and these can often mean the difference between living to tell another day, or ending up as lunch for an angry werewolf.

The writing side of the dice slightly lets the game down; with the main story feeling slightly typical and in no way too unique (this is mostly personal opinion) however it does not detract from the fact that it is above average in the story department. Side quests have equal depth however and some are very memorable and some unique moments arise from wondering off the beaten path, just try not to go too far down it at lower levels, or you'll get smacked back to the starting area so hard you'll probably turn the PlayStation off and cry in the corner, wondering how you can be so bad at this game (it's not you, it's not an easy game and this definitely DID NOT happen to be when playing on Death March mode)

Overall, I would say a solid effort from a seemingly small company, they have outdone many larger companies with this game, not to shy of being a masterpiece, this game is definitely a must for any RPG fan.

Very good game, however not without flaws. Various bugs throughout the game keep this from truly being a masterpiece. I wish I would have waited a few months to play this game so they would have all the bugs patched and make it a more enjoyable experience. Very long game if you explore and do the side quests, expect to invest at least 200+ hours to fully clear the maps.

I'd considered myself a mild fan of The Witcher series and games but not crazy about it like some people - that all changed with this instalment. Somehow, this game manages to combine two facets in gaming that are often opposite ends of a spectrum: quality and quantity.

The quality of narrative, voice acting and writing typical of The Witcher series or - to those unfamiliar with The Witcher - BioWare games, is present here in spades. I've rarely gone through such an array of emotions playing a video game. Many times did I laugh out loud, get teary or even angry at the events that unfold.

Every The Witcher title has a layered plot but with this instalment it's more multi-faceted than ever. Politics, prejudice, fear, history and the more fantastical fantasy: it's all covered here. Characters each have their own backstories and plot that unveils as the game progresses. There's complexity here but not too much to confuse the attentive or become convoluted. Ultimately, it keeps the main plot simple and creates branches from it that add depth, and it all ties together to make a memorable experience. It is elevated further and given greater urgency and impact by featuring the most menacing villains we've been pitted against yet in the series.

Voice acting is fantastic - it's as simple as that. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that off the top of my head I cannot recall a game with voice acting to match. And this praise goes far and wide, not just to the main characters. A particularly memorable moment to me is when a character from the previous instalment disobeys her commander, almost resulting in her death, and receives an ear-bending from her superior officer - it feels genuine: anger, concern and exasperation all tied up in one line of dialogue.

Facial animations in conversations are another highlight. There are many occasions where the writers use body language alone to convey a character's feelings or thoughts, and some of the most powerful scenes involve little to no dialogue at all. This is something we'd consider excellent acting and screenplay in a movie and it's no different here, except every aspect of it is meticulously crafted by puppetmaster developers. They even manage to give Geralt - the primary protagonist with cat-like eyes - puppy-dog eyes in times of grief.

Yet, the game is also huge in scope and scale. Make no mistake, this game is enormous, both in terms of world space and content. And to top it all off the game is absolutely beautiful, with environments looking authentically gorgeous and organic. The weather effects in particular are a marvel at times and it is surprising how much of boost to atmosphere a small thing as gusts of wind can have.

As for content, we're not talking about bloat or hundreds of fetch quests to fluff things out. We're talking real plights that poor villagers, snotty soldiers or rich earls are facing that requires the services of a witcher. As a rough estimate, I'd wager about 80% of the sidequests feel individual and tailored. Each one involves something different and even when the experience isn't wholly unique it is still engaging. There are also random events, particularly in the largest city area in the game, that reminded me of the cRPGs of old like Baldur's Gate. Cases where you'd be walking through the street and attacked randomly or begged for help. It all adds life and immersion to the world.

It is jaw-dropping how they managed to include so much and simultaneously make it all so organic and varied, especially with a dev team half the size of Rockstar's GTA5 team.

Gameplay is a mixed bag, although more in favour of positive than negative. The combat is vastly improved over The Witcher 2, both in terms of functionality and variety. For starters, combat is tighter than the previous game, far more responsive and a greater degree of control is given to the player, allowing for skill to make more of a difference.

Blocking is now actually very effective, and the game includes a riposte feature akin to the Souls series parry. A timed block just before an enemy attacks results in a parry that leaves them wide open. Monsters also have particular weaknesses, either listed in their bestiary entries or some less obvious learned through experimenting. Additionally, there are two different types of dodge: a side-step and a full-on roll, like in the previous game. Many will be happy to hear both types of dodge have a small window of invincibility so timed dodges are now an effective means of evasion.

That said, this leads us onto the negative with regards combat: hitboxes. When facing normal humanoid enemies the hitboxes are generally absolutely fine and combat flows nicely. Against certain larger enemies though, such as many of the monster hunting quests, you'll find the hitboxes a bit wonky at times. That said, it still doesn't take away from the overall experience.

This is masterful game development. And a truly incredible piece of art.

It's more deep than you think. Geralt was taken as a kid to be mutated in painful trials to become a mutant monster slayer without any feelings. In his particular case, the mutation didn't go perfectly. He didn't lose his feelings. He is actually a very empathetic person but you would have to read the books to understand the psychological side. To stay sane in this world he had to kill his feelings himself. Years of killing monsters and watching atrocities he couldn't prevent or do anything about made him like this. He just has "eyes that had seen too much".

However, I would like to say the game improve much from Witcher 2.

The World - Perfect open-world with a huge amount of details. Graphic is great. Character designs are god-like, they feel so real. Game length is so immense. I spent like 20 hours and I think I haven't reached 10% of the game yet.

Story - Very good, no complain. (but I think witcher 2 is better in the beginning part, well, I think I have to play more, I havn't finished the game yet)

Combat System - works very well. Although, if you compare with Bloodborne, you may feel that it is a little clunky. Well you need to know that Bloodborne is expert in that area so it will be hard for any game to surpass that. However, Witcher 3 combat system also has its own merits. You need to stay with it for a while. Be more patient, this game does not want you to be as aggressive as blood borne but to be mindful and strategic.

Music - Don't see any flaw in this area. Voice acting is great

Additional point - You can play card game in Witcher 3 + you get a real map from your box and good manual hard copy.

That is all, In sum, If you like Skyrim, this game is a must play for you. If you have never played RPG open world before, this game is a good epitome for you to see what a perfect open-world rpg game is, you should give it a try. If you don't like Skyrim, there is a high chance you will not like this game also.

Considering how much the predecessors have improved with their enhanced editions, we can expect this game to become a milestone in RPG history, similar in significance to Baldur's Gate!

    Graphics, gameworld, design:
Sure, the demo footage looked even more awesome. But this is still one of the best-looking games I've ever seen. Not only because of polygons and shaders, but even more so due to an extraordinarily detailed and realistic world. All armors, buildings, NPC's and landscapes look like they had a bunch of historians on their payroll. Light and weather effects are much better than everything I've seen before, Dragon Age 3 and moddded Skyrim included. Furthermore, while magic exists in this world, it is more of a rare curiosity, not disturbing the realistic, dirty and immersive medieval setting. If a person gets crippled, it stays crippled - no quick spell of a mage will change that. Dead people stay dead, even if necromancy might force them to utter some last words in a fascinatingly disgusting fashion. This changes a lot, because you really care if someone tortures or injures your friends. Also, human cruelty has never been portrayed so believably except maybe for the first Dragon Age. In a direct comparison to Skyrim, the motivations of villains are far more believable - no mad cults without understandable reason, no simple villagers resorting to cannibalism just for the exquisite taste. The evil is never pure black, and you can always understand why people join evil groups like the witch hunters.

    Story:
While I only finished somewhere between 50-70% of the main story so far (or so I guess), I can already tell that the quality of writing is outstanding. This game contains a few of the most memorable moments in my two decade gaming career. And they haven't even used any "ultimate fight of good vs evil" moments so far. This is the story of Geralt and his friends. You aren't the center of the world, which is a good and refreshing change to Bioware. Bioware should also take an example regarding the quality of side quests, which are in large parts just as well-written as the main story.

    Gameplay:
Geralt is a predefined hero with a huge background history. This is a good thing for story reasons (especially if you played TW1 or TW2 or read the books), but limits gameplay a little. He rarely wields maces or axes, the crossbow has only a very small role in combat, and there are only 5 spells with a variant for each. Still, you feel like a professional monster hunter in each second, and each spell, potion or bomb is interesting. There are a few minor issues like the cluttered inventory, the rather pointless abundance of useless loot and some controls worth optimizing, but all this never makes the game significantly less fun to play. Overall, the gameplay is (very?) good, but not as extraordinary as story, gameworld and immersion. Luckily, you never care much. I find myself opening the character screen only every third level-up or so - seiing events unfold is just more interesting. And quite a few times I was so drawn in that I ended up in bed three hours later than planned ;-)

Having said that, practice makes perfect and the more I play the more natural it's feeling to dodge and parry. As an RPG veteran the Soul's games are the best in category.

The story is amazing, even the sidequests are intriguing on their own. The gameplay is endlessly fun and rewarding, the combat deeply satisfying and responsive.

Just like a captivating novel that becomes harder and harder to put down, that is how I would describe the experience of this titan amongst giants...and for that it warrants a perfect score.

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
