I'm a big fan of GoT so my expectation for this game is very high. Still, it managed to exceed everything I could have hope for. Very mature story telling, excellent cast, immersive world, asmosphere, enviroment,...
If you're a fan of RPG and/or dark fantasy type of games, this gem right here is exactly what you need.

Yes there is some lag and yes it takes time to get use to the camera but it is a amazing experience and definitely worth the hype, i have put already 30 hours in and dont regret it. I also pre-ordered the collectors edition so i got a few bonuses but its worth your money and believe it deserves a game of the year. ( My opinion)

Awe inspiring effort who's only flaw is the camera and controls. I have just as much fun wandering around and taking in the aesthetics as I do completing quests. 9 out of 10....and the one point deduction is for the choppy controls. Can't help but wonder what this game would be like with smoother combat. Screw it, I'll get used to it.

all about the game has been told so far in countless reviews, so ill just point these subtle things that make it much better than dragon-age-inquisition-like games :
-customizable hud - you want to fully sink into the world, why not disabling a map and instead start asking for directions around, same goes with inventory, hints etc - huge plus for that
-no more dull 'get 10 shards' side

-customizable hud - you want to fully sink into the world, why not disabling a map and instead start asking for directions around, same goes with inventory, hints etc - huge plus for that
-no more dull 'get 10 shards' side quest - right now a side quest is a non-forced little story that makes this game even more 'real' and you will quickly find out that nothing is black or white :)
-no more saving the world hurr durr - Geralt is a monster-hunter, not a prophet, world saver or some other nonsense - the main quest is personal, remember The last of us ?
-reality - you cant jump off the cliff with a horse ;))), you jump off from ~7meters as Geralt = youre dead, doesnt matter how much health you have
-fighting ! its somehow similiar to shadow of mordor, yet a little bit less responsive, but requires a skill and tactical approach (as every enemy fights in other manner)
-medieval lenguage (at least in my lenguage version) - its A M A I Z I N G while it comes to building an atmosphere
-truly dark fantasy vibe - if you find a thief, he'll get hanged on a tree - no merciful 2nd chance **** like in other rpgs
-the world is huge and full of things to explore

the only con i have found is that you cannot attack civilians/nonhostiles - and sometimes they are pretty disrespectful during the conversation - a punch in the face would be a great use here, and would fit the storytelling perfectly but you cannot do it :(

You have the main quest, which is told with superbly production values thanks to excellent voice acting, nicely detailed faces, and good animations for the most part. Then you also have the side quests, which unlike many other RPGs where the side quests merely feel like filler, there's a lot more to them here - many of the side quests feel like self-contained stories with satisfying payoffs. In terms of the gameplay, you'll be exploring this massive world, collecting loot, leveling up, unlocking new abilities, and doing everything one would expect from a modern day RPG. Then there's the combat, which may seem different than you're used to at first, and may seem more challenging than some other RPGs since the combat seems to be a lot more animated than most RPGs, but once you master it - and you will - you will love it. I especially love how you can either roll away from enemy attack, block them, parry them, or my favorite, sidestep them stylishly. All in all, The Witcher 3 is a game that every PS4 owner should own. The game's beauty carries over on all platforms, with PC having an expected, though miniscule advantage over other systems, and a visual style that really pulls you into the world. I can't even count the number of times I had to just stop and enjoy the view, especially during the sunset and sunrise over the horizon.

Witcher 3 isn't just eye candy, though it is undoubtedly beautiful, but it is a genuinly impressive story driven RPG that isn't afraid to play with your emotions during the 30-40 hour campaign. Along the way there are instances where you are put in the shoes of Geralt's ward Ciri, and while the sudden jump in playstyle can be jarring, I found her sections to be equally as enjoyable as Geralt's romp through the main quest.

Gameplay, namely combat, is much improved from The Witcher 2's clunky controls and feels more fluid and satisfying, especially when you take down a paticularily nasty hoard of monsters.

In short, The Witcher 3 is an amazing RPG, Open world adventure, and video game in general that should not be missed.

The best story I've ever seen in a game and it rivals even Lord of the Rings for books and movies. It has amazing graphics, and continues to impress as you crank it to 1600p and ultra everything.

The most innovative and intriguing thing about the game is that decisions you make matter (without a simple good/evil bar), and often you will not know the extent of your decisions for hours or even tens of hours (none of this "so and so will remember that" from Telltale games and none of the simple and obvious good/bad choices of almost every other game ever.

It also has fantastic setting and lore, which pays lots of fan service to Witcher 2 fans (like me) but is absolutely accessible to people who never played either other game (like my wife). Finally, it is just plain ridiculously fun and never got old even after 135 hours.

Yes, it is a bit clunky to control (but only out of combat), the swimming is atrociously bad, the inventory cannot be sorted, and some other minor issues as well. But when you absolutely nail every other part of your game, it just doesn't matter.

Despite all the excellent on offer a couple of things could stand to improve, the inventory system can be a little messy and quest items can sometime be lost in a sea of useless rubbish especially when it comes to the treasure and armour scavenger hunts.

Witcher 3 is a step forward in RPG's, It shows just how big and immersive you can make a modern day RPG. Every little thing you do in The Witcher 3 could come back full circle to you, even the smallest things. The story of The Witcher games have all been good mostly thanks to the Witcher Books the series is based off.But Witcher 3 follows suit for the most part, at times you feel like your just running from A to B to help someone so they will in turn help you by giving you info for the 2 people you are looking for.But that IS what a "Witcher" is he is a hired monster killer and you do lots of that. Harpies,Griffins,Spirits and Cannibals are just a few of the foes you have to decapitate and cut in half. The combat in the game is very smooth and feels great, All enemies have there own weaknesses and strengths you need to learn and use against them. Some being Oils or Potions you can craft to make you stronger against that type of foe or a time of day that is better to fight it. The developer CD Project Red worked extremely hard on bringing the best possible experience they could to the PS4 and Xbox One, The game still suffers from some frame rate issues and stuttering but it doesn't stop you from enjoying the game very much. The PC version of the game is much better in that subject (If you have a good PC). The story line is superb, the graphics are cinema quality, and the combat system and immersion are top notch. This game really sets a new standard. It has 4 minute fetch quests with more compelling story and interesting characters than the main story line of Skyrim.

There is a constant sense of exploration of wonder that actually manages to surprise you over and over again. Not since the days of Baldur's Gate II have I felt so consistently amazed at the places and things I encounter in an RPG.

And best of all, in the most positive sense of the expression: This is not a game for babies. There's racism, sex, cruelty, drugs, moral ambiguity, and more disturbing monsters than you've seen in any other game. You will not be coddled, your actions will have far reaching consequences -- many of them not immediately apparent, and if you walk into the wrong area and attack a the level 20 golem guarding a chest when you're at level 6, you're swiftly reduced to a blob of red paste in the forest floor.

The world design is incredible. It feels like a real world rather than a bunch of sewn-together set pieces. Not to mention the beautiful foliage. Makes Dragon Age III look like a golf course by comparison. The sound design also merits special mention. There's so much carefully crafted ambiance everywhere. Last but not least, the dynamic weather effects are beyond anything I have seen in a game to this date.

The whole game just oozes of the love CDPR put into it.

There are some minor warts, such as the controls which take a moment to get accustomed to, and the inventory interface isn't the most brilliant in the world, but they're barely worth mentioning.

12/10 - Game of the decade.

Whoever called this game "Red Dead Redemption meets Skyrim" was onto something. If you haven't played the other two Witchers, read the books, or the comics, your start in this game is going to be awkward and frustrating. This is a sequel with a complex story, a complex world, and labyrinthine mechanics, and will not make any effort to hold you by the hand and put you up to date. This is a sequel with a complex story, a complex world, and labyrinthine mechanics, and will not make any effort to hold you by the hand and put you up to date. However, once you pick up, and finish the first few quests, you'll need to say goodbye to your social life for a while.

While the gameplay is going to be important, the narrative is going to take the top spot. Everything in this game exists to push a story. The people hung in trees and the devastation of a warn-torn countryside oozes atmospheric storytelling. The conversation trees are as important as the gameplay, since something you miss, or a wrong answer, can truly change your experience of the game further ahead. Do not take lightly any conversation, as trivial as it may look. The side quests are so well done, they are meant to enhance the narrative rather than drag the play time of the game. I have a few ones to count as my favorites, but a memorable one involves a singing troll.

Everything in this game is meant to feel like a living, breathing world that you can help shape for better or worse. I think the main victory of the Witcher is telling a compelling story, in an open world game.

It's not without its problems, you can't expect a game this massive to be perfect at everything. Some will complain about the fighting system, to which I believe can be fixed by adjusting the difficulty. The menu interface can be tough to navigate. The alchemy and crafting systems are too complicated for the average Joe, and I wouldn't be surprised if most people won't bother with it. Some glitches are to be expected.

Whatever the problem would be, it can't outweigh the masterpiece. This game has raised the bar in what we can expect in narrative and open-world games. I may even dare and call it, a Zelda game for adults,

Although I did wish there should've been more variety when it came to the free roaming (the ?'s around the map), but the reward of finding quality gear outweighed the repetitiveness of it. The witcher contracts were also a blast to play, as the side stories revolving around the monsters sucks you in, and you just want to see the sucker for yourself and kill it. Speaking of enemies, there is a lot of them in this game, with different ways to kill all of them, just would've liked to see more variety of move sets of each monsters, (it's a small detail, but it's something that irked me seeing a different monster within a set species having basically the same move set). Now the story itself was great with a amazing cast of characters I cared for, especially the well being of the girl we are after in the game. Some of the main missions dragged on unnecessarily, but for the most part I enjoyed playing the main story and watching the story unfold (kind of underwhelmed by all of the endings but that's my opinion). The gameplay and rpg aspects of this game can be summed up in one word: "simple". Basically a hack and slash game, with complimentary potions/ few magic spells and rpg elements to boost your character. Honestly, no complaints from me regarding the gameplay, would've liked to see geralt learn new moves and signs as the game went on, but again its a small detail that doesn't take away from the overall gameplay. After beating the game, i can honestly say that this is an amazing game but it's not for everyone, it's far from perfect, but the amount of stuff can keep you occupied for hundreds of hours especially if you like grinding. To end, if you plan on straight doing main quests and nothing else, it's an 8/10.. but if you like this game a lot, you'll probably end up spending hundred of hours on it and it's an 9/10. Expand

It took me awhile to get used to the multiple menu trees and seeing the slow, progressive results in combat effectiveness after slowly building skills abilities within these trees. On the graphical fidelity/performance front, frames-per-second on PS4 is a little sludgy, but I've gotten used to this in the context of the AC series and overall, if the sense of immersion/detailed "world" is there, I am willing to overlook limited performance (but that's to a point, I'll say. For instance, right now I'm having trouble overlooking the awful graphics/performance of games such as Fallout 4, though the depth of detail of stuff to explore, find, craft, do is pretty amazing). I'd say the art designers did a superb job overall, though. So many little things shine to help with immersion, such as the changing weather, time of day and getting all the little sounds of the outdoors mixed in to enhance the experience. The sound and sight of wind moving through the trees is noticed and appreciated!

As mentioned, in terms of gameplay itself, there was a learning curve that I had to trudge through, in the beginning very low levels, to get to the good stuff...to the sense of fun. In that respect, there was a degree of trust to access that all the glowing critic/user reviews were attesting to something there that I just needed to have the patience in order to dig to discover. Again, all secondary to my lack of experience with the overall slower pace associated with RPG's. Just now (and only about 12 hours into the game! so much more fun ahead :) ) the full appreciation of what the devs have done in creating W3 is emerging. A big part of that is the superb writing. The story and side stories themselves. They are strange, magical, and unique (at least to me) in a way that I find exciting. I'm not a hardcore gamer by any stretch of the imagination, but much of the "story telling" in gaming seems a little contrived/repetitive to me. W3 is an exception, in my perspective. The fantasy story is well written and helps to drive the experience forward from mission to mission. I literally have no idea what's coming next, but am beginning to expect to be pleasantly surprised and intrigued.

So, all in all, a long-winded way of saying that W3 is capturing the heart of a primarily first person shooter fan. It is a great game and deserving of being in the upper tier of anyone's top 10 list.

    Such as:
    1) Glitches, minor ones. Kind of funny seeing characters phase through objects, magically appear and disappear. Puddles of doom (if this happened to you, you'll know what I mean.) None of these are game breaking, just minor annoyances that disrupt the immersion.
    2) Way, way, way, way to many pointless mini quests (hidden treasure, bandit, camps, etc.) While they are fun at first they do become mostly pointless once you start crafting your own gear. I would have rather had more witcher contracts, than dozens of meaningless smuggler caches.
    3) Gwent becomes far too easy once you have most of the cards. Why not introduce handicaps (like what they did in Final Fantasy 8.)
    4) Copy and paste sex scenes. Seriously, the Witcher 2 may have had less, but at least there was effort made so they all didn't look the same.
    5) Why isn't Ves a romance option? Or at the very least a quick dalliance.
    6) Unbalanced set monster levels scattered through each area. While it does add a challenge, it also forces too much back and forth. Also, it's kinda funny and annoying that at level 35 you still get mobbed by level 1 wolves. It would have been so much better if enemies were scaled to your level (with obvious exception to contracts and story related creatures.)

But these are all just very minor gripes which hopefully will be addressed in future patches and DLC.

The world of the Witcher 3 is massive and each area is almost game into itself. The level of detail and the scenic beauty of the graphics truly show what the PS4 is capable of.

The story is gripping from beginning to end. Many of the secondary quests are gripping from beginning to end. Excellent writing and character development. Although I did wish that there would have been more of Ciri.

    Overall:
The Witcher 3 is a marvelous game that is a clear milestone for the genre. Hopefully other developers will look to this game learn from its success. Thank you CD Project Red.

-The combat is clunky and your horse has some of the worst controls I have seen in a top notch video game.

Verdict: If this games side quests were as interesting as skyrim, mass effect, or fallout then this would probably be one of my favorite games of all time. In my opinion the lack of interesting npc characters makes the huge world a little dull to explore. That's just my own preference when it comes to exploration. But really that is a small criticism. What I will say is that I have been gaming seriously for close to 25 years now and have played pretty much everything in that time (bar a few exceptions). I never played The Witcher and I really couldn't get into The Witcher 2, as I found the world very restricted and the combat appalling.

Witcher 3 is possibly the best game I have ever played. I'm not sure whether anything here is revolutionary but Project Red have basically taken every good idea from games such as Skyrim, Fable, Red Dead Redemption, World of Warcraft etc and created something that surpasses them all. It's the attention to detail here that really boggles the mind. This game has been designed with the player in mind and what would make their lives easier whilst allowing and encouraging the freedom to roam and explore a magical world.

I have never experienced such a desolate, war-strewn and desperate land in all gaming and it really lives and breathes due to stunning weather and day/night cycles. I've sunk over 20 hours into it so far and have barely scratched the surface and the single complaint i have is that it's too easy to steal items whilst their owners simply stare at you. But anyway, here are a few of my scores about aspects of this title:

    Story and lore 10
    Voice acting 10
    Graphics 10
    Music and sound 9
    Combat Mechanics 9
    Features 10

There is a level of depth and sophistication happening here that surpasses anything I've experienced in a video game. I'm totally invested in every moving part of this epic rpg; the main story, the side missions and contracts, character development, gear and crafting...the list is endless. If you spend $60 on one new video game this year, make it this one.

I am over 30 with kids and a career and i finished the game which says it all.

The plot is exciting, the graphics are nice, not many bugs, average combat but i guess this game is more about the story.

    Loved it.

Every side quest is fun and interesting, never once was a I bored with a quest or felt like it was just another fetch and return.

Graphics are great on the PS4, faces especially are amazing and the textures on clothing and armour have never looked so real imo. Some things lack that detail like grass but that really is just nit picking on some peoples part.

    Bad:

I found the skill tree seriously lacking and I never looked forward to leveling up and often found I had not even noticed and there was several skill points waiting to be allocated. There is some good stuff in there.

Yrden(trap) is useful once you invest heavily it has a dot effect and is good for crowd control.
Iign has a very cool firestream ability later in the line.
Bomb making can expand the slots to hold 8 bombs and turn them into cluster blombs. There is also a skill to make Geralt deflect and parry arrows.

Other than that most of the skill tree is 1% here and 2% there which you expect in some RPGs but that kind of thing makes up the majority of Geralts leveling. Mutagens used to be very rare and extremely powerful things that would give Geralt unique perks or talents now just about every monster drops them and they do little more than increase a stat. Some can make potions that are on a whole not especially useful imo.

    MILD ENDING SPOILER.

For the game plus the game reverts to your save world before you start the last chapter which I found really disappointing since I was looking forward to exploring the world after the finale and hoping more high level quests and contracts would be opened up.

    Summary:
Despite feeling the leveling up was kind of dull everything else kept me fully immersed in the game and as I said I mostly forgot about the leveling up, which is made up for by the amount of great and unique gear you can loot and craft.

First of all the story telling in this game is one of the best I have ever experienced. The main story is very good paced. The Baron quest line is one of the best in RPG games ever. The story is so full of emotions, tough decisions and twists. Every quest has a story and a background and always two or sometimes even more ways to end it.
The World of the Witcher is vast and rich with encounters, NPC and more. You got big cities, small villages, forts and ruins to explore. Caves and mountain tops to discover. Yes it has zones it's not one big open world game but one thing in it what is amazing. No loading screens. Enter a cave? A house? A City? A castle? No loading screen! This is how you should do it.
Combat is very fluid and you can do it how you want it. Sword fighting, signs (aka magic), potions, traps and bombs. Fast and sneaky or slow and tanky? You can play it how you want it.
There is a lot more equipment and upgrades then in previous games. Swords, axes, crossbows and a lot of different armor parts to chose from. You have different armor sets that are tied in to quests and give you some back story to different Witcher schools.
Graphic wise Witcher 3 is the best looking game in 2015 period. Yes on PC it requires a powerful machine but on console you still get a medium to high experience. The game just looks beautiful. The character models, the landscape and weather effects. Lightning effects and shadows are amazing. And every zone has its own look and feel to it.
All and all a great game and one of the best RPG in gaming history. The best game of this year by a mile.

Dozens and dozens of main quests and side quests its never ending. Not to mention just exploring the beautiful but dangerous world looking for all the cool armor schematics and all the other cool collectibles.

Graphics are excellent, characters, foreground and background. Awesome voice actors as well. Mostly old English accents. The story line is incredible. So adult and mature and ever exciting. As other people have said the attention to detail on this game is ridiculous. Unlike some RPG's, you are well rewarded for completing all the side quests and Witcher contracts.

Levelling up is top class. You have the choice on which area to use your reward points, combat, magic, character etc etc. I could go on forever. When modern game developers are seemingly always in a hurry to rush out a poor game for a quick buck, you can just feel how much effort has been put into making this game it almost feels a privilege to play it.

Well done to the guys in Poland at CD Projekt Red, you have set the bar for all future RPG's. A well deserved 10/10 from me!

This game wasn't on my radar at first but it intrigued me so I picked it up and I'm glad I did. I'm so tempted to give this game a 10 but there are a couple of problems that can't be excused like the controls under water being unbearable and the camera being unreliable at times. It's a great game with lots to do and everything has a stroy that is well thought out and interesting.

    3. CDPR says it will have multiple ending, well just forget that. Don't expect it too much.
    4. Side quests is well designed, and it sometimes effect the main story line.
    5. 200+ hours of gameplay is true, but most of time you just roaming around. The main story costs about 20+ hours depends on you.

    Gameplay
    1. Each skills have 2~3 variety, but you spend most of skill point on increase the strength.
    2. Oil, potion and bomb are important on higher difficulties. And the systems are well designed.
    3. You need to collect ingredients for crafting and alchemy system, and that's a main element in RPG.
    4. Combats are swift. If you except precise and focus style like Monster Hunter, you may think the combat are lousy.
    5. The maps are really really big, it takes time to explore it. And some of secret places are much bigger than you think.
    6. Because the maps are so big, if you die or using fast travel to different area(big). You may need to wait for a really long time.
    7. Free DLCs are nice and I expect the season pass will bring more fun.

    Music:
The soundtracks is pretty good, and I enjoy the CD come along with day 1 purchased.

    Graphics:
    1. Sudden frame-drop quite frequently, especially in swamp areas and confronting guards.
    2. The wind make those plants move unnaturally.
    3. Even patches the HUD is still too small for me. You need to sit very close to TV.

You should really buy it if you enjoy open world and ARPG. Might compete with Fallout4 or MGSV:TPP for GOTY

The story telling and immersion in this title is nothing short of incredible. Ignore any low score of this game - here is my take on why some people 'wrongly' scored it low:

    1) Combat and Camera are clunky?
Not really. The camera is no worse than that of GTA IV which you quickly get used to and the combat is fluid and exciting.

    2) Movement is tricky
It was, but the developers added a setting that gives you the option to change this.

    3) Quests are repetitive
Seriously? I've fought with kings in foreign lands, swayed wars, toiled with the love of two mages, chased my (surrogate) daughter across the world, got into bar brawls, became a brawling champion, played cards, negotiated with Elves and Dwarves, raced horses, been in a play, searched the world for master crafted armour, fought in castles, got drunk with old friends and tracked/slain countless beasts from powerful vampires to packs of wild dogs... repetitive? Please.

    4) It's bugged and broken
Within a very short space of time the developers rolled out eight patch updates. Okay so not everything was fixed but it just improves all the time and improves quickly at that. Not good enough? Well, on top of that they also released sixteen (yes 16) free DLC updates - ranging from simple cosmetic options to entire new quest lines.

    OVERALL
The Witcher 3 is an epic AAA title that could be a justified winner of Game of the Year (dependant on Fallout 4, Metal Gear and Halo V of course).

If you're undecided on this title then you're seriously missing out on a magnificent game. If you like the RPG or Fantasy genre then it should be a no-brainier. If that's not something you typically like then I challenge you to play this right through and see if you feel the same when you're done.

CD Projekt and The Witcher have been rising stars in the industry since the first game , this third episode is suppose to be the last of this franchise so will Geralt go out in a bang ?

Of course he will (like you probably read it a thousand times before) everything in the game is at least very good, beginning by its technical attributes, the games looks pretty for a RPG this big with nice light effects, large amounts of details and good textures in general, some visual glitches that are almost mandatory for games with that much content are the only bad side of the game, but they will not bother your gameplay experience, the framerate is steady and I didn't encounter any major issue during my 140 hours spend on this game.

Gameplay wise the game offers a lot of thing, good investigations//hunts, exploration, grasping fights that are challenging when they need to be with, like the previous games of the franchise there is a great alchemy system that adds a tactical side to the fighting (probably the best fighting I've seen in any A-RPG), the best mini game of the world aka Gwent that is becoming a stand alone on its own now, etc. They implemented a lot of ideas in the game and all of them work great for the global experience of the game, it just feels natural without being assisted. Kudos to CD Projekt they clearly are talented.

Finally concerning the story, once again it's a masterpiece they succeed to make an epic main quest, a lot of detailed side quests, some are equally epic, some are funny, some are heartbreaking, etc. All together they make for 100 hours of gameplay for the basic game, but I would truly recommend every one to take both extensions as well they have the same qualities with new awesome characters, monsters, locations, and of course plots and once again you'll get plenty of content, around 40 hours (which could be a full game, even two from other studios), for less than 30€/$. But the biggest accomplishment in the writing of this game is that the story works great whether or not you've played the two previous game, whether or not you've read the books (of course you'll catch up tons of reference if you already know the whole story of The Witcher) you'll be hooked to it and be willing to advance in the game and learn more.

In conclusion The Witcher 3 is a must have for every gamer, sure it's not the best looking game ever, but it doesn't matter, it looks good enough and the gameplay works perfectly, it's incredibly full of content and the story is quite possibly the best I've experienced in a video game, at least in recent years, and will leave you some forever lasting memories. Buy this game, buy the expansions, The Witcher is without a doubt one of the greatest franchise in the history of our favorite medium : video games.

The Witcher 3 starts out perfect
You’re introduced to a massive would where massive creatures roam and make their claims on territories.
There’s a sense of fear and challenge in this aspect alone.
As you travel the land of white orchard you hear people call out for help and you stop to speak with them and help them with their problems for some coin.
Even the tiniest thing such as helping an old woman get her frying pan back feels immersive and draws you into the world.
This is where you’re introduced to the idea of oils and potions, finding enemies weaknesses, using your witcher senses to find clue about what youre about to face, and preparing for fights, something that comes in handy for harder difficulties.
I feel like this was the vision.
White Orchard would be what the witcher 3 was all about, and then the game kinda just falls apart and its vision fades.
The witcher tells a beautiful story of urgency, and for that reason alone, the side quests and question marks that clutter the map in velen and other locations make no sense to exist in the context of the games story.
Geralt needs to get to the bottom of what happened, why would he waste his time with the problems of randoms and destroying monster nests.
There are some great side quests that actually tie in to the story, and they are beautiful and fun quests but the ones there just to attempt and make the world feel alive ultimately feel like pointless grinding.
Many times I found myself just skipping through the cut scenes of these quests.
This could have been fixed with incentive more than coin, such as weapons and armors like treasure hunts offer.
The witcher contracts should have been mandatory obstacles in your way of story progression.
These type of things make sense in a Skyrim type game where you write your own story, but in the witcher 3, the story is already established... you aren’t an adventurer.
    You’re a rescuer.
But as a rescuer there is tons to do to level up so you can take on the challenges that await you.
Again contracts and sidequests could have used this idea for benefit, making them feel like training instead of just a job.
You can set out in the world to clear up abandoned sites to repopulate them, you can go out to take down beasts terrorizing territories or just go out and fight random creatures blocking your way to a new undiscovered location.
And the combat is satisfying, so fighting enemies never feels like a drag.
You can block, parry, roll, dodge, heavy attack, fast attack, shoot at them with arrows, use any of the magic signs to shoot fire from your fingers, use a protective spell, magic traps, knock enemies back, control their minds, so much opportunity and combos that can be played with.
And while defeating creatures doesn’t grant much xp, they are still worth the fight as enemies drop items for upgrades, crafting, and alchemy.
The crafting in this game really is some of the best I’ve seen.
You can dismantle objects for items you need to craft base items for main items, it may feel overwhelming at first, but once you really dive in, it’s clever and worthwhile to figure out.
You can purchase items from shops and alchemists or you can explore the beautiful world that The Witcher 3 offers.
When you do level up, you can use the skill points in a vast skill tree and choose the perks you want to use, with up to 12 free slots for these perks. This skill tree can be wrapped around your personal play style or the style you need to take down a specific enemy as there are potions to reset your perks so you can respend them.
I’m a very aggressive player so I for the most part focused on combat skills rather than alchemy or magic.
There are also races you can do, but your horse annoyingly gets caught up on nothing and will randomly just stop which can lead to frustration.
And now my favorite part of the game. Gwent.
Gwent is a mini game within the game and im not ashamed to say that I liked gwent more than witcher 3 itself.
Gwent is a very addictive game with massive marketing potential, so get to making the app CD Projekt red.
    Now for the bad,
for starters leveling up in the witcher 3 is a complete drag, not only does it feel unsatisfying to slay hordes of creatures, the games design actually discourages it.
If you dare level grind like you’re supposed to in an rpg rather than stick to the main story, you’re punished for it by earning 0xp if you’re 6 levels or more above the suggested level for that mission.
Not only does it discourage you from going on your own wild hunt, but it makes you look at side quests and blow them off, why waste your time and effort?
The game also has many stability issues
I lost count of the game crashes at 10, this was only in my first few days of playing the game, with and without game patches.
The Witcher 3 makes the mistake of not constantly saving when you stumble on new locations or accomplish something tiny like a gwent win, causing you to have to re-do 10-30 minutes if the game crashes, gwent cards being random for wins adds salt to the wounds, as if the game crashes after a win, you’ll more than likely not get that card again that you were so excited to win.
I also ran into head floating glitches that really just destroyed the world and its immersion, and there was absolutely no polish or attention to detail put into cut scenes where it should be most.
Sure I expect items to ghost through objects in game, but in cut scene, it’s unacceptable.
Not only are there game crashing bugs in this massive open world, but there are missables which is complete bs.
Making a 200 hour long game and putting content in there such as side quests and collectibles and making them missable if you don’t drop the world to do them now is massively disrespectful to players and their time.
At the very least put asterisk around missable quests so we know to prioritize them, so we don’t get lost in your story, heaven forbid…and have to replay a 200 hour game again to see content we feel robbed of, or better yet don’t make them missable at all, which leads me to achievements and more bs.
The witcher 3 is all about choices, that being said it’s shady as heck to put in achievements that force you to make certain decisions, really lessoning the games experience having to try to spin a web around a mid-game ding.
I know you don’t have to trophy hunt, , but that isn’t an excuse to disrespect a players experience by forcing those that do trophy hunt to play by your rules… that contradicts the entire premise of the witcher 3 as a game.
While I was massively impressed by my first 10 hours of the witcher 3, there are too many flaws in game design for me to overlook.
But that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a gorgeous and intensely immerse game with thought provoking story telling, over 30 different endings you can get and hundreds of hours of content.
    For what it is.

**Some audio issues like crackly music or not playing at all (at least for me, and no, it's not my headphones)
**Somewhat laggy and unresponsive inventory menu once things start filling up
    **Not enough NPC character models

But its pros FAR outweigh its cons IMHO:

**Memorable, unique, emotional, and fun main quests AND side quests
**Combat is responsive and rewarding to master, especially on harder difficulties
**Gear, skills, and leveling (RPG mechanics) are top-notch
**Monster hunting requires preparation; it's no hack-and-slash on higher difficulties
**Exploration reveals a dense, complex, and interesting world; it doesn't take long to find something to do
    **Voice acting
    **Music
**Environment (day/night cycle and dynamic weather)
**Interesting characters, most of whom are complex and imperfect
**Gwent, an in-game card game, is fun and surprising
**Developers are engaged with fans, and treat them with respect

This is truly a great game.

The Witcher 3 is quite possibly the biggest game I have ever played. Yes it is even bigger than Skyrim and Gta! First of all the story is fantastic and very unpredictable with multiple endings. One of the few games that truly makes you forget about your life, everything is amazing, the soundtracks are top notch, and the voice acting is just perfect! There's also lots of content and of course free DLC's (always good to have some free stuff). The world of The Witcher 3 is just perfect and I just want more... 10/10

This game is the best thing happened in the gaming history of a gamer specially rpg gamer. You have choices, consequences and open world. Yes, the might have little bugs here and there, but given the size of the games with the same price as destiny or evolve, you would not get any better deal than Witcher 3.

This is what a next generation game should be and has dramatically raised the bar for all other titles this genre and for AAA game development in general. For me, this is by far the most interesting and engaging (and fun!) game I've ever played and I cant wait to see what the amazing team at CD Project Red comes up with next. BRAVO!

The story is really well written with different outcomes from each decision you make which adds variety to the game. When you finally put it down and then decide you'll just have one more hour which turns into four :) continue your game and a narrator will explain what has happened on your quest while the game is loading which I love this is a must buy! Best game on the ps4 by a mile! Expand

Even if we get crap games for the rest of the year, this, Bloodborne and Mortal Kombat makes this year completely dominate last year in terms of good quality games. Expand

Amazing. The world and exploration is a cross between Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption. The horse in this game is actually useful unlike other RPG's. The combat is a mixture between Bloodborne (defensively) and Batman (offensively - some button smashing). The witcher contracts are a blast. The combat is much more enjoyable than Bethesda games.

The only thing I feel is missing is

The only thing I feel is missing is joining factions, groups, fighter's guildetc. However, The Witcher makes up for this and any other shortcomings (occasional frame rate issues, bugs) with its amazing story and smooth and fluid gameplay. Also, the Gwent card game is addicting.

I absolutely love running through Novigrad. My main criticism, as partially described above, is that I do not feel as close to or a part of the NPC's. Don't get me wrong, the character design is astonishing and you grow to like the characters. I guess the fact that The Witcher is more of an independent protagonist trying to find lost loved ones rather than trying to save the world separates Geralt from the world surrounding him.

Something else I love about this game are the boss fights and the enemy design. It goes right up there with Dragon's Dogma.

This is one of the best RPG I've ever played. Definitely rivals Skyrim, FFVII, and Phantasy Star IV.

This game is near perfection. To keep things short the only problems I've found with this game are the underwater controls and some bugs and glitches that mostly don't interfere with the gameplay. Also, the frame rate in the PS4 version is unstable, but that didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. The rest is magnificent. A must-own for RPG lovers.

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
