And don't say that Ellie broke the cycle of revenge by letting Abby go since she killed countless characters in order to get to Abby, characters who most likely have family members that want to avenge their deaths. Plus somehow Ellie getting her fingers bitten off and having a Joel flashback influenced her to save Abby instead of wanting to drown her even more??? Like wtf, really Druckmann??? Whose mans is this??? and why did Naughty Dog let go of Amy Hennig instead of this fool???? The gameplay is aight tho, but canon story ended with the first game. TLOU Part 2's awful storyline completely ruined the game for me. Why did Joel and Tommy trust a stranger and tell Abby their names when they knew Joel is probably getting hunted by the fireflies? Why did he then go to a stranger's outpost instead of hiding from the Infected elsewhere? I understand if Joel had to die but not like this, he's basically an oblivious buffoon in this game and written completely out of character. And death by golf club??? Are you serious??? This is supposed to be TLOU, not a Mortal Kombat/Mario Golf spinoff =-(. I could go on forever and write a college thesis on why this game is trash but I get angrier the more I write. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! If you must play this trainwreck for yourself, make sure Naughty Dog doesn't see a cent and rent it! The game is worse than the leaks!!!… Expand

The game spends time teaching the player that there are no villains, there are just people. And all of them have light and dark inside of them. So people can't get mad because of who we played as. The game is about hatred and revenge. But the ending proves what we already know, which is that everyone is human and everyone loves.

    I didn't like playing as Abby at first, but in the end I wanted her to live as much as Ellie. The same awful thing happened to both of them and both of them spent years looking for revenge. They are both likeable, loving people. Proven by Owen and Dina and Lev and JJ.

    You cannot say a game is bad because it taught you something. It taught you that everyone has a side and you cannot hate someone just because of what they did to someone you love. Ellie and Abby are two sides of the same coin. This is one of the best games of all time because it amplifies that. You cannot hate one and love the other just because you knew one first.

    Great game, great characters. Don't listen to the people that hate it before they even play it. Play the game, love the game.    … Expand

Ridiculous plot, the whole theme of the story seems like something an 8 year old would find deep. Character's decisions make absolutely zero goddamn sense. Beloved characters get treated like crap. The game's trailer is an absolute disgrace, misleading is anAbysmal storytelling... why does this game exists? We fans waited 7 years for this crap, and they chose to spit on our faces. The game's trailer is an absolute disgrace, misleading is an understatement, is false advertising, google the differences. Half of the game is just time-killer, no plot progression, no character-development.

    The best part of the game, by far, is the flashback sequences (and maybe the guitar playing, that was pretty cool as well.). And when the best part of your game is the flashbacks you know you messed up somewhere.

    The game gets a 1/10, the reason it didn't get 0 is the visuals, nothing to complain about there. Gameplay is almost exactly the same as the one 7 years ago, nothing changed. Glitches are everywhere, I lost count how many times my character was climbing an invisible ladder, and the death screen stuck on the screen after I respawn. Laughable.

    What an absolute trainwreck, Naughty Dog you get what you deserve after censoring and copyrighting people for their opinions. Neil Druckmann you deserve the hate you are getting now.    … Expand

    The gameplay is good, but not as awesome as it was promised. The environment and surroundings are marvelous, though it becomes repetitive quite often. You vague too much through the map, it takes long time to have a bit of action. Although there are some intense moments, most of the game is boring.

The message and reason of the game is totally lost and messed up. How can you deliver a message od forgiveness when all characters kill without hesitation other people? Scars do not hesitate, Fireflies kill without even asking. As soon as anyone see you, you are shot or stabed. Then it becomes stupid to try to show you the point of view od someone else in order to emphatize. It is an apocaliptic world, you will do whatever you have to in order to survive and save your beloved ones.

    Another thing that concerns me is to see the quantity of people and how easy they move to another place to visit someone or go to a base. It makes you believe that there is almost no danger regarding to infected ones. Human beings are the ones to be afraid of.

    I can say without doubt that this game is awfully written, not tested to verify errors, and showed things that did not accomplish.    … Expand

It's the worst revenge-plot out of any game I've ever seen.

    To preface this review, I would like to say I am sad to see that the review bombing has gotten out of control on both sides. 10/10s and 0/10s are not warranted for this game. It is a terrific game with a very subpar story. It would benefit us all to be more honest and not be tribalistic for a game that was (and is to some) fun to play.

    VOICE ACTING: 6/10 Bland at times but that may be just because of the writing, but amazing execution otherwise.
    OTHER AUDIO: 7/10 Amazing but not groundbreaking in 2020.
    GAMEPLAY: 2/10 Outdated w/ many ~2013 style QTE sequences and simplistic inventory system that did not innovate much from the previous installment. Only 2 or so new enemies throughout the whole game w/ 1 being very similar to the bloaters from the first game that are coincidentally also easier to kill but harder to dodge. In short, combat and exploration have barely changed.

    STORY: 1/10 Subpar at best. Rather than feeling like you are playing as the characters this time around, it feels more like you are just along for the ride and there is high disconnect with the characters that you play as this time around. The choices seem wild, illogical, uncanny and otherwise difficult to grasp. You will be walking towards objectives in the game at times but you may question yourself the entire time and wonder "but why?". Unlike the first game, the goals and motivations for each character is confusing and somewhat disconnected with reality.

    Docking 2 points from the average as I expect much better value from a story based game.    … Expand

    I've worked in games for almost 20 years and these guys should be ashamed. If you have a political or social message. The proper mechanic is to let the player make moral choices and preset ramifications if you want to make a point..     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a rare game where the story ruins the gameplay. The gameplay is smoother than the first game. It doesn't seem like 7 years better, but most fans actually weren't expecting it to be. As far as not playing as Joel. Most fans were prepared for it. But never playing as Joel and then having him killed in such a humiliating way makes the story telling of the first game pointless. Some fans could point to the Game of Thrones doing similar things. Problem with that comparison is that GOT has dozens of characters. This title had two main characters. Another comparison is Metal Gear Solid 2, where the opening has you play as Solid Snake before switching to Raiden for the rest of the game. There was backlash, but not like LOU2. Why? Because Snake's face wasn't smashed in by Raiden and then you have to empathize with the new character. Why Druckmann thought he was being brilliant is beyond me.

    When LOU2 was announced 5 years ago, I was surprised because the first game was a complete story. I was worried about a cash grab. It ended up being worse.

    If Druckmann had a new story to tell, new characters would have had minut backlash. There was nothing in the LOU universe that prevented a prequel, sequel, or a story occuring at the same time of the first one. The reason the original characters were brought back was for money. And then to backtrack from that fact is appalling. This is not the first sequel that received negative backlash. To be so childish to believe that it's because of the sexuality of a couple characters is absurd and without merit. For myself, I think the story can bring out the gameplay's greatness. And a poor story can ruin the gameplay. It's games like this that pushes developers to play it safe and have no substantive story. That's a shame for one of the few more interactive mediums. This game will also set back LGBTQ+ friendly games as well. It'll be viewed as unsafe by investors and developers. Druckmann has failed on every front. He thought he was creating a masterpiece when he was piggybacking on the greatness of others greatness and mistaken it for his own. *Everyone should remember that Druckmann fired the top female game writer/artist in the industry to create this game. She was responsible for Uncharted at its best and much of the LOU. "Game critics" hiding that fact for their paycheck is shameful.

    In a vacuum, this game is fine. Without context, it would be visually good and decent gameplay for 2020. But that is not the case. If you accepted the money and the accolades from the first game, Druckmann has to take the backlash for the second. You don't get to have it both ways. If Druckmann wants to refund every dissatisfied fan, maybe there would be some positive feedback. Druckmann is not going to give up his money. And his labeling every critic as a bigot is a sign of his character.    … Expand

Why would you choose a pacifists lifestyle at the END after everything she did. I was in actual tears. They should've given you an option to allow her to live or kill her. This is just BS I've waited 7 years, I talk about how much I love the last of us. It will forever be my favorite game but this didn't do it justice whatsoever, it was tedious and made no sense its just like you started killing just to kill there was no real story line.     Avoided leaks. Loved the first game. Went in unbiased. Quit two hours in. Came back and had to quit again, too many plot holes, bad writing. Who is the target audience for this game? It certainly wasn't the majority of people like me who enjoyed the first go 7 years ago. I won't be trading this to gamestop, this is going in the trash.

Ao menos deveria ter nos dado mais tempo com ele, dado outras motivações à Ellie. Foi um desrespeito com os fãs do personagem e personagem nenhum preencheu o vazio deixado por ele.

    La historia y los personajes, tanto el rumbo y el mensaje final son una completa mierda, lo intentaron hacer super complejo cuando ya el primer juego era super simple y era perfecto por eso, bueno "perfecto" no es realmente, su historia no es nada del otro mundo y los personajes también, pero le da mil vueltas a este bodrio de secuela que solo destruyo el anterior

A história gira em torno de vingança; porém, tentaram lacrar tanto que ficou ridículo. O ex-namorado da "Lesbian of Us", vulgo asiático, é um capacho sem amor próprio. Além disso, a situação constrangedora do café envolvendo o Joel foi o fim. O primeiro jogo foi muito bom, pena que tentaram perverter toda a história ao colocar como antagonista alguém ligado a um personagem que não tinha importância nenhuma na trama original (filha do cientista NPC).… Expand

    Gameplay: It liked it, if you played the first game you instantely feel "at home" playing the 2. Part. And they even improved it. Dodging is a major improvement and makes close combat a lot more agil and rewarding.
    Sound/Music: No need to say anything its just as perfect as in the 1. part.
    Visuals/Graphics: This game really is the most beautiful game on PS4 right now. All the indirect lighting, all the little details everywhere in this world, they really let you feel how much work and love was put into making this game.
    Story: It is controversial but its different and thats what i like about it. Its not the normal boring revenge story its hard, its heartbreaking and thats excactly what it should be and wants to show. Revenge, hate and violence is useless and only creates more revenge,hate and violence. It destroys you, your life and a lot of people around you that you love. I liked that you play the game from both perspective even though a lot of people hate that about the game. But just think about nature documentaries... if you watch a documentary about lions you want the lion to catch and kill the zebra, but if you watch a documentary about zebras you really want that zebra to escape the lions attack and continue living. Its all a matter of perspective and there is not just black or white with that...there are a lot of grey layers inbetween and somehow people kinda forget and ignore that. If you are open minded about what the story want to tell you and really engage with the story you wont be disappointed. I probably felt every emotion playing that game (anger, love, hate, sadness, emptyness, wholesome moments etc.). It really is a rollercoaster, but i loved it.    … Expand

There are some sequences in this game that rival box office films and enormously entertaining

    Bottom line, this game is a masterpiece. I would give this a 10, but I feel the combat mechanics could have been improved and enhanced in this installment. I would have liked to have seen a new melee combat style for Ellie, considering her/size strength clearly did not match many of her foes in a 1:1 fight, which broke the suspension of disbelief. There are also a few overly drawn-out exposition and backstory sequences that could have been a bit tighter and slow the game's pace.

    If you are looking for a story-driven game with complex characters and scenarios, and don't mind a lot of covert, strategic combat, this is the game for you. If you want a standard shoot em up, 1-dimensional, mindless shooter, stick to COD or the thousands of other games that fit that genre. Most importantly, if you are homophobic, anti-semitic, or generally hate anything that challenges your hegemonic masculinity, particularly on who should be a protagonist and who shouldn't, you should probably sit this one out, bruh. This wasn't in first game, i know the agenda now it's all about LGBT and stuff but come on, this is a game, it's a history about a poor girl that its immune to a virus that is killing population, you just went to far, so awkward playing with my son watching 2 girls having such intimacy, i mean it's not wrong, but that's not the story i want to play, simply pointless, absurd, awful and disrespectful to people.… Expand

    Bland outdated gameplay, terrible writing, terrible characters. All in all, a big package of vomit this game turned out to be. Naughty Dog should be ashamed to release this "go woke go broke" garbage and Sony Interactive Entertainment is and horrible, anti-consumer platform for games. Avoid this title at all costs.

The First last of us game had that perfect balance between gameplay and cutscenes. The character development was poor for some of the characters. Watching Joel get killed by Abby, I had no problem with joel dying, my gripe was with how joel died. I felt if the characters were developed more gamers would be able to sympathize with them and then when joel's death would've been shown, atleast gamers would've understood Abby's anger and pain. I have no ill will against any character regardless of their sexual orientation, gender or sexuality, my problem was how it was represented in the game without showing any relevance. What was the relevance of the huge amount of screen time shown with ellie and dina, same goes for the sex scene with abby and owen. Alot of wasted potential and time that could've went into more gameplay that would've made the game more fun. I think naughty dog focused too much on the story and forgot that gamers value actual gameplay time, rather than a drawn out plot.… Expand

    The naughty dogs deceived the players by combining two separate scenes and dialogue of joel in trailer. The story was mess. Sony did not allow reviewers to talk about the last 12 hours game play . The graphics were good but could not beat the level of uncharted 4 . For me there was too much hype for this game.

    This game is a masterpiece, I had a blast playing it.
    The game-play is smooth, the graphics are amazing, the mechanics are great, and like a lot of games the story is not perfect but it is good.
    I'm not going to give it 10/10 because there are some minor flaws, but the game is amazing nonetheless.    … Expand

    The gameplay felt very clunky, like it was in the first game. Half way through the game, I lost track of how many times I died by the fact that I got shot, and Ellie got into a state where she would just stand there and try to reflect the shotgun shells with her head.....     After playing it completely through, I get why people are mad. But even then, this is an interesting case for story's that try something different.     Enjoyed the mediocre gameplay as much as you can, but the story is just terrible and irrevelant. The new characters just are not interesting, nor they work on them and instead try to get sympathy by cheap methods (pregnancy, being cute), but they are still just generic npcs with almost not known backstory. Then you also have all the incoherences and nonsense.

Indeed, the brutality the game has, incredible. The graphics are the best ever made and nothing comes close, be it in the environment, in combat, in the damage received, every detail is stupendous, making this happen in this generation is almost a miracle, even in more than 25h of gameplay there are no loadings. Immersion too, never seen before. The atmosphere of the game is unbelievable, very heavy and realistic. The silence is disturbing in many moments, as well as the sound of the infected and the conversations of enemy groups. This immersion advances to the point that each enemy has personality, affection for the dogs (ah, the dogs ...), personal conversations, a unique detail. Gameplay is perfect, extremely effective and presents no problem. The story will surprise those who play and its ending is extremely impressive. A pity for those who cannot have this experience, undoubtedly the best ever produced to date, 2020 and most likely, the game of the year. Epic, legendary.

    The Last Of Us Part 2 muda o conceito do que é um jogo nota 100. Um absurdo, único, inigualável. É difícil escrever sobre um jogo o qual todos os seus aspectos são positivos, mas vamos lá. A história e o modo como a mesma é desenvolvida é um absurdo, desde seu início impactante, instigante e toma rumos que o player jamais imaginaria. A questão tão abordada de que vilão e herói é uma questão de perspectiva é muito presente no game. Redenção, vingança, loucura, perda de noção, brutalidade, tudo está presente! Inclusive, que brutalidade o jogo tem, incrível. Os gráficos são os melhores já feitos e nada chega perto, seja na ambientação, no combate, no dano recebido, cada detalhe é estupendo, fazer isso acontecer nessa geração é quase um milagre, inclusive em mais de 25h de gameplay não há loadings. A imersão também, jamais vista. A atmosfera do jogo é inacreditável, muito pesada e realista. O silêncio é perturbador em muitos momentos, bem como o som dos infectados e as conversas de grupos inimigos. Essa imersão avança a ponto de que cada inimigo tem personalidade, carinho pelos cachorros (ah, os cachorros...), conversas pessoais, um detalhamento único. Jogabilidade é perfeita, extremamente eficaz e não apresenta qualquer problema. A história irá surpreender quem jogar e o seu final é extremamente impactante.     The way Joel was killed was just lame, trash and fast made. I can understand the way you guys wanted to tell the story about Abby, Her dad and Joel with the Fireflys but it could have been done very differently. The way we merge into Abby her story on how her 3 days went in Seattle shouldnt have happend mid way of the game and that when we meet Ellie as Abbie in the theater we should have had the control back of Ellie and not Abbie. Also making it seem like Tommy also was dead after he was shot shouldnt also have happend. You guys really wanted ''if you could do it'' kill of every character in the game from Joel and Ellie their side to make Abbie seem like the new main hero of the game. After finding out where Abbie and Lev are told by Tommy and later finding and fighting Abbie Ellie shouldve killed her instead of letting her go. She deserved to be killed and be dead after all the things she had done. And then the lamest of all. After returning without killing Abbie Dina also left without saying a word. The house was empty and everything was gone except Ellie her room. Where was a note from Dina telling where she went with the baby?! We were just left with Ellie playing the guitar missing her two fingers not being able to play the notes. Dina and the baby missing and their house being empty. The ending was just absolute trash. I get the message of having revenge is not always the answer but to leave Ellie with nothing behind is just pure pepega. You guys already slaughtered her and her side the whole **** game but to give her an ending with literally nothing and also not even the things and people she loves is just pure trash. We waited 7 years for this?! Remake the game like we wanted. Not like this absolute garbage.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
