For those that hate the game, I am positive it is because of the LGBTQ+ elements that angers them. This game is a masterpiece. A true work of art.

The one sentence from Fallout that comes to mind after the credits roll for Last of us 2. It is a marvelous story with great gameplay. It tells the story in many viewpoints and you can accept it and enjoy the game(or not and give awful reviews in metacritic). In this post-apocalyptic world nothing is in black and white. All are bad based on the viewpoint. Everyone you kill is a person, and you might find them in both stories.

One of the best stories in ages. Deal with it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m very disappointed in how the decided to off Joel with him being as smart & deadly as he was in TLOU. Weak. I feel like the story had many directions it could’ve went but it just wasn’t the main concern as you can tell with the lazy writing. It took 7 years just for naughty dog to mess up an extraordinary new IP. There was no point to Joel death because in the end there was no revenge...so after I finished the game I felt very empty. I didn’t understand the moral of the story if there was one. The amazing graphics and gameplay quality can’t save such a dry story concept. Oh & it was very gay. Expand

The story feels really clunky, kind of like you are playing multiple games that got shoved together. They try to introduce a new main character but failed at making her as interesting or likeable as the characters from the original. This ruins the pacing as you spend the entire time with this character, just wishing you were playing as the other characters.

    There are redeeming qualities

There are redeeming qualities about the game, but it's hard to give it a high rating when I just enjoyed less than half of the game. If you enjoyed the first game, there is little change to the gameplay. The graphics are good. But it fails to capture the magic of the original.

The gameplay has not changed since 2013 however it’s still fun and the graphics are great but there’s pros don’t make up for having to play 15 hours as Abby who doesn’t have any character development towards realizing that she was wrong. Also not to mention the false advertising of ND portraying Joel to be in the main story only to have them switch it to Jesse at full release. The story is just a true dumpster fire and completely and entirely spits on the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it breaks my heart to see so many negative reviews for this game.

This is not an easy story to endure. It’s truly heartbreaking to see these characters that you’ve grown to know so well go through such pain. That being said, I would encourage anyone who thinks this story is only about revenge to give it another try with a different lens. The way I see it, when Ellie decides to not kill Abby, she’s not forgiving Abby so much as she’s forgiving Joel. The fire and pain that fuels her rampage to kill Abby is not exactly fueled by Joel’s death, but rather the pain and conflict that comes from Joel’s decision to pull her out of the hospital. Joel is a very flawed character, and he’s certainly not a hero. If Ellie had killed Abby, she would have been just as bad as Joel was. She loves Joel, but she knows his death was a consequence of his actions. She doesn’t think he deserved it, per se, but she’s just like Abby, trying to get revenge for her father’s death. If you can’t empathize with Abby, I can understand why you don’t like the game, but I would encourage you to try. I found all of the characters to be very well written and very much like real people.

That’s my essay. The gameplay is also very fun and the graphics are stunning.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game last week and I'm really disappointed with the story.

Everyone on team Ellie is great.

The problem is Abby. ND forces the player into Abby's perspective and tries to get the player to empathize with her. The problem is Abby is never confronted with her own atrocities. She starts off by brutally torture killing Joel. Given how popular Joel is with fans that's a lot of heat to introduce a new character with. To explain her actions ND reveals that Joel killed her father and Abby is consumed with revenge. Okay great, now why do I have to play this character for 10-12 hours as ND tries to humanize it and fails

As a member of the Fireflies she would have taken part in bombing Fedra checkpoints. Then she joins the WLF and stays long enough to gain Isaac's trust committing untold violent acts. She clearly has no problem killing other people's fathers. Game completely sanitizes her WLF history. Instead she plays with dogs and jokes around with her friends. The storytelling is absolutely contrived.

At one point she chooses to help some kids that become her allies to gain player sympathy. Contrived. For her big face turn she wastes her time by going on a mission to get a med kit for one of the kids. Then she chooses to leave the WLF by siding with these kids she has known for less than two days. Contrived. The choice between a "bad guy" group and kids is extremely cliche. She even kills WLF members she knows by name and presumably has known for years for these allies she has known for less than 2 days. Contrived. This all conveniently happens in the same 4 day period that Ellie is looking for Abby. Again Abby plays with dogs, helps random kids, goes on lifesaving med kit mission, and sides against her evil WLF group. But not once does the story mention the messed up stuff she would have been apart of just one week earlier as a high ranking WLF member. The whole thing is pointless contrived nonsense.

To top it off the last mission is ridiculous. Ellie travels hundreds of miles on a rumor of an Abby sighting because Ellie is still haunted by visions of Joel. Ellie fights hordes of goons for her chance to finish Abby only to let Abby go at the last moment. Ellie kills hundreds of goons in this game, why would she suddenly care about one more? The story's themes do not match the game play at all.

I do not recommend this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's been a few days since I finished this heart-wrenching, emotional assault of a game. I've noticed that the largest complaints of my fellow players focus on the story, which is, without doubt, one of the driving elements of the game. I would like to focus on that, so I'll get the other parts out of the way as quickly as possible.

The gameplay is a tremendous improvement over the original. More open-ended segments avoid the pitfalls of the traditional Naughty Dog 'hallway shooter,' the gunplay feels more responsive, the melee hits a great balance of easy to learn/hard to master, and the combat all-around feels as tense as it should in a survival game. The graphics are stunning, and post-infection Seattle feels like one of the most fully-realized post-apocalyptic worlds ever created. The in-game artifacts contribute to awesome worldbuilding a create a truly spooky atmosphere. The acting is impeccable. The sound design and editing are flawless. Someone still plays Hotline Miami on the PS Vita. The list goes on. These elements alone make the game worth playing.

    And then there's the story.

The best tl;dr I can give is that everyone will feel differently about it, and everyone should play it for themselves to determine where they fall. Love it or hate it, it's unquestionably provocative, and I applaud the writers for their willingness to take risks in such a widely-anticipated AAA game.

Many of these risks pay off. Some of them don't. I think, like Red Dead Redemption 2, this game's reputation will change with a year of retrospect.

There's a problem with, as a reviewer, calling anything a "poor story." This is a subjective qualification, but so is everything related to a review. I personally enjoyed the story, and I can see where people didn't enjoy it. I don't think, however, that calling a story "bad" because it evoked feelings of rage, anger, and sadness makes a story "bad" at all, especially if it intended to stir those emotions in the first place. Thus, in line with what I understand about criticism, the far more productive question is: "does this game succeed at what it's trying to do?" The Last of Us 2, for the most part, does succeed, but not quite as well as its predecessor.

The Last of Us, as a game, basically caught lightning in a bottle. It brought life and humanity to a dead and dehumanized world by exploring the father-daughter relationship between Ellie and Joel. From the game's opening moments, we empathize with Joel and his loss, which contributes to and grounds the remarkable ambiguity of the game's all-time-classic ending. By balancing love and hate, it had a perfect balance of ups and downs.

The Last of Us 2 is a relentless downer. The first game thematically focused on unconditional love and how that's both wonderful and sometimes downright horrifying. The second game is a revenge tale through and through. In the end, it tries to teach us that empathy is the most human characteristic we have. There are some truly powerful moments that capture what we're capable of when we forget that the people we hurt are human, just like us. It hurts to be confronted by it so brutally.

The biggest criticisms I've seen relate to "plot holes," "poor writing," and "poor characterization," all of which are terms that (no offense) people most often throw around to try to validate their feelings without doing consistent logical work. These also happen to be non-issues that, when overly explicated, completely undermine the artistic merit and intrinsic value of something being criticized. None of the characters in TLOU2 remain static. The dialogue is fluid and at times mind-blowingly good (I've tried to write dialogue--it's not easy!). And plot holes? I'll just encourage you to google "film crit hulk plot holes" and point out that they're not as huge a deal as you think. I digress. There are many moments throughout where the game succeeds incredibly at making the player feel what it wants the player to feel. If the general response is any indication, though, it just barely misses the mark. I don't think we spend enough time with Abby to care about her in the ways that the writers wanted us to. What makes this statement interesting, though, is the fact that Abby's segment is nearly as long as the entire first game.

The first game had an unforgettable cold open, and that's a big part of where the first game succeeded in its opening minutes with Joel. I think this game would have benefitted from placing us in control of Abby's first two flashback sequences from the start. Instead, we get placed in the shoes of a mystery character, and it doesn't do much for the tension during Ellie's segment. Abby also never reveals her core motivation to Ellie, which undermines what should have been her character's catharsis during the story's climax. Purposefully withheld information doesn't drive a story forward, and I'd say that's TLOU2's biggest flaw.

And yet I still loved it, and that's that.

Game play is vastly improved over the original game. There is the occasional bit of jank, especially around the game's stealth. Luckily this can be circumvented because of the vast and flexible ways in which the difficulty can be tuned to your personal tastes. Also, there's plenty of generous check points if you die or want to try it again.

The story, at a surface level, is a good revenge story. However, scratch any further below that and you'll find a number of fumbles and plot holes you'll need to fill in yourself. The game is also wears out it's welcome at least 5 hours or so from the conclusion of its roughly 30 hour campaign. I feel this is partly from how the story was told, with a definitive half way point definitely exacerbates how long this game feels to play.

    Can definitely recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game play -
    - I personally really enjoyed the game play. It was a sequel so I do not really understand people wanting different game play aspects although I may be misinterpreting what they are actually complaining about.
    - They added enough features for me for it to be refreshing, but similar in most aspects.
    - I love the stealth in this game and how I can basically sneak past enemies in most situations, but having the consequence of not having looted them.
    - The fluidity of grabbing objects and quick throwing was something I have not personally experienced in any other game and I love that. (Know that I play little single player games)
    - I generally aim for platinum in story games and I will replay the game to get all of the collectibles, but I do not like collecting these things. I could really care less for cards, letters and coins, and it ruins the immersion for me. That being said, none of the collectibles had to be collected during boss fights, during chasing scenes, or places where you have to time it right. I appreciate this as I do not have to be reading Johnny's final letter of wanting a sock for Christmas. I understand that it allows for a reminder of civilization and people's old lives or whatever but I do not want to take time off exploring and fighting to be reading.
    - Each kill is so satisfying and can be so grotesque and I love it. The extended period of choking someone only to finally snap their necks is disgusting and actually makes me reflect on how desensitized I am to violence in games. That didn't stop me from completing the mission, but it did make me think (which I think was their intention).
    - Having the enemies cry out their friend's names as I kill them was a nice added touch but I did not notice it too much.

    Story - Random Order Sorry

    - I did not find the relationship between Ellie and Dina forced.
    - I loved the fact that Joel died early, as I felt just as Ellie was feeling at that moment.
    - I have never felt as the protagonist was feeling throughout the story in any other game.
    - I did not understand the whole need for there to be Dina and Ellie smoking weed.
    - I do not think that the Abby and Owen sex scene was at all necessary for the plot.
    - I felt the anger with Ellie and wanted each participant of Joel's death to die and I was satisfied enough for killing them but also felt the need for more vengeance.
    - I am a bit conflicted with the whole Abby half of the story. By the end of it, I still wanted Ellie to win the fight, but at the very least I understand Abby's anger despite me still not liking her. (Which I'm fairly certain met Naughty Dog's vision and criteria).
    - I would have preferred for there to not be a Day 1 for Abby because I found none of that day memorable. I honestly can't remember what happened then. I would have liked for Abby's story to start at the hanging scene. The main reason I feel like I forgot about Day 1 Abby is because I was still processing and waiting for the game to return to the theater as I was desperate to know what happened.
    - The whole Seth thing at the start was okay and I was fine not knowing how it happened. When we actually get to the dance scene, I found it a bit forced and odd.
    - I was initially sad that I thought Ellie had forgotten about Joel and moved on with Dina and J.J. on a farm. I was happy to know that Ellie hadn't forgotten and actually has P.T.S.D. When her previous journey was out of rage, her journey from the farm and back to Ellie was more out of desperation. The fact that she can't sleep or eat and has had episodes which can be a risk for the family, she is desperate for some sort of closure. (So my point is I like this storytelling).
    - I found it odd that after Jesse's death, and all of Abby's friend's death, they are never mentioned again. The only thing I can think of is that it is just another day in the post-apocalyptic world and that this is a normal reaction to death being so desensitized to it. Even so, I don't think it was well shown as the reason for this.
    - I am glad that some of the deaths like Jesse was quick because I do not want every character to have a dramatic death. Some of those quick deaths added to the shock value.
    - I really like the overall themes and ideas of this story. I was satisfied with beating her up at the beach, but also appreciated that she let her live because of the memory of Joel and theme of forgiveness.
    - Tommy left Jackson without Ellie to protect her. When he arrived back with Ellie and Jesse to the theater, he was content with letting Abby live, until she came back and killed Jesse, got shot in the face, and lost his relationship with Maria. By the time of the farm, he is in the same state Ellie was previously.
    Other -
    - The accessibility options in the game are of something like never before. So many options to assist visually impaired, individuals difficulty of hearing, mobility impaired, and quality of life options are a step in the right direction.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before writing, I want to make it clear, there are spoilers. Also, my opinion is my opinion. I would love to have a discussion with you as long as it stays civil. Also, my opinion really doesn’t matter, it’s the internet for gods sake! I will be splitting this into 4 parts. I’m gonna refer to choice as a big theme by the way. I liked the idea from Left Behind in part 1. 1. Joel’s Death. Ah yes, the main talking point of this game besides the ending. Joel’s death was harsh and brutal, yet deserving. Not everyone deserves a heroes death, and Joel wasn’t exactly a good person. He robbed, he smuggled, he killed, and took away humanity’s last chance for prosperity. That being said, it sucked, enough to make me cry, but it felt right, no matter how horrible it was. Nothing can be a perfect death, or a happy ending. Joel’s death and the way it happened was warranted. It tells me that this is truly the apocalypse. You can’t expect a girl like Abby who saw her father dead on the floor in the hospital to be soft and empathetic. She’s ruthless, and I love it. Now though I miss Joel, his death scene truly was heartbreaking but he surely didn’t deserve what most would call a heroic ending.

    2. Seattle

Seattle to me was beautiful, and the mini stories told there gave it life. But, to keep it short, it was fairly repetitive. Leave theater, explore, find a way through here, kill a couple of infected or bad guys, explore more, kill more, have a small encounter, such as the one with Jesse, escape dramatically, rinse and repeat. To me, I enjoyed Seattle with Abby more than Ellie. Abby’s was a lot more clever to me, and had some different encounters. 2.5
I lied, here’s a small extra part. The flashbacks, with both Abby and Ellie were outstanding. It really filled gaps I didn’t even know I had. 3. The fight scene with Ellie and Abby.

Bridging the stories together after doing two individual sections, when Abby finds the theater and takes Tommy hostage and kills Jesse, the fight scene that ensues was fun, but a little lack luster. I wish it could’ve had some choice to it. Such as, choose to be Abby or Ellie. If you choose Abby, do you kill Dina and die from QTEs or kill her and live or do neither and die? (etc.) Or can you choose Ellie and kill Abby, making the farm scene the last scene of the game. I think a little more though could’ve been put in.

3.5. I lied again. I’m gonna talk about the farm scene here instead of 4. I wish you could have some more choice here. Choose to stay with Dina or leave? I think it would’ve been interesting.

    4. Santa Barbara. The ending. Probably my favorite portion of the game. The environment is amazing. But why? As said in 3.5, why come here? Why choose to lose it all? But still, the idea is interesting. I’m gonna skip to the end of it to save time. The final fight scene was, interesting. Again, some choice here would’ve made sense. Kill Abby? Either way, the ending plays out. Ellie returns to an empty home, tries to play guitar, but can’t. The ending is heart wrenching and made me cry quite a bit. Saying how that was basically the most important, in my eyes, thing Joel ever gave Ellie. It leaves me with questions; where did Dina go? Where did Ellie go? What happened with Abby and Lev? What happened with JJ? All of these are something I want to see in a DLC or even a third game if possible.

My final rating. I give this game a 9.4/10. The game was phenomenal, and the story was amazing. To those who don’t understand the story, please think deeper than the surface. It makes so much more sense. The overwhelming urge to kill Abby and everyone there in Jackson during Joel’s death, completely extinguished as flashbacks of Joel tell Ellie to stop. This is the most powerful game I have played in years. I really do hope this game recovers from the review bombs and I hope we see a wrap up to Abby and Lev and Dina Ellie and JJ. Thank you if you read this through. I appreciate it a lot. l

The entire thing just seemed like it was one hit after the other and the antagonist turned heroine did not deserve the redemption story arc she got. Plus, there was a very inappropriate scene that did not need to go in the game. All in all, what made me realize the story wasn't all that good was the fact that the ending left me and many others unsatisfied. It just didn't fit the main character's story well after the events of the game. If you want an awesome game with mechanics and graphics that will blow you away, buy it. The game shattered my expectations. It took a big risk in the story that it tells and for me it was an absolute win. The game play was also a perfect mix of the original Last of Us and Uncharted 4. If you loved the 1st one the least you can do is ignore the haters and give Part II the chance it deserves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay wise was both a huge step forward and a huge step backwards. Even though there were more options, it also made the game infinitely easier, defeating the purpose and the sense of desperation you'd expect to come along with a game set in a zombie apocalypse.

From a story standpoint (and all social movements aside) I think there is a mountain of evidence that proves this is a poorly written and overall bad experience. For example, flashbacks are useful and effective when only doing it once or twice, but this game for some reason slows down to an intolerable crawl with many, many flashbacks to display a character they kill in the beginning of the game. If you want to kill him, then just do it. Don't spend the rest of the game relishing in that character when you make a previous terrible decision.

In addition, the game forces you to play a character that you don't want to play (that's as far as I'll go spoiler wise) and tries to play with your emotions throughout when the entire time you don't want to be participating in anything that is happening. This game should have been a homerun story wise, but instead they try to challenge your beliefs again and again, when really most people (including me) play videogames to ESCAPE the real world, not be PUSHED FURTHER into it, when it's controversial to begin with. About half way through, I was completely checked out. They could've redeemed themselves in the end, but they didn't. It was all for nothing, and the motivations behind the "revenge isn't the end all be all" narrative will leave you feeling empty of satisfaction in a complete waste of time.

They managed to make the story of the first one all wrong by doing that, then they throw it at you saying that the person doing it in the second is the right one, and you still have to let it go without any choice in the end, at least something alternative could have been given to the consumer.

The game and its history make no sense at all. And that has nothing to do with the character being LGBT or not. What can we say about a game that transforms the first and main character, into a silly person who easily believes in anyone? And also, what about a game that turns the main story of the infected, into a war of revenge that makes you kill 30 million people and in the end not to kill the only character you wanted to kill. You kill everyone, including all of her allies, except your own. You end up more **** up than the character that is your opponent, and that is extremely frustrating.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is really sad to read reviews written during the day one with only 0. If you pay attention reading most of them, you will find many elements that show you that the reviewer hasn't played the game.

About the game, this is the opinion of a guy who played everything since he discovered videogames, and a guy who has never been a huge fan of the first chapter. In this case I can't but admit that TLOU Part 2 is one of the greatest masterpiece in the history of the medium. The screenplay is a magestic work of characterization, developing this double pursue, a double tale of revenge. But if you really understand the game, you won't find a revenge story. You'll find the best sequel ever made to a game, and Naughty Dog made some of the most extreme choices towards the public and the mythology of the game. The result is an enormous tale-of-doubles which developes the great lie which closed the first chapter in an incredibile whirlpool of violence and brutality.

The gameplay is a continuous and total integration with the awesome scenarios that have been realized in the best graphic level ever seen on ps4. The gameplay of tlou has been renewed in its rhythm, often ripetiteve and sometimes a bit woody. Tlou offers a range of genres and situations, and some of them are already game history. The level with the sniper or the sequence on Serafites' Island are nothing but works of videloudic art.

Surely it was inspired by the operas of the genre, especially MGS 4, but it founds its own identity in those hard choices ND took. When you discover that after 15 hours of progression with Allie your adventure is gone and you restart with her nemesis who killed the beloved Joel, you'll need time to accept this. But it's not a punishment against player, it's a new pact with the player, who will live actually an experience, not a game. And when the true finale comes, the picture is complete, Joel is not the one who inspires revenge, but the man who condemned Allie saving her. So she is not looking for vengeance, but she's trying to overcome hatreness against that friend-father.

Yes, TLOU totally overwrites the first chapter, but this is nothing but an incredibile pivot point in ND philosophy. It's a matter of faith, and everyone should overcome his preconceptions to embrace this masterpiece, which completed the path that Death Stranding seemed to have completed. The videogame has finally reach, completely and irreversible, the state of art.

The divisive story was a deliberate attempt to tell an emotionally draining tale in a world decimated by a fungal zombie outbreak. If you want mindless adventure, go play the Uncharted series. It’s a great series that is emotionally flat and fun to play. If you want to play a game that makes you love or hate characters and actually care what happens to them one way or another, this is the game for you. What story do you think would need to be told to justify the game’s existence? It wasn’t going to be about finding a cure or repairing society. Look at the Walking Dead. It’s about survival and building an existence with whatever morals and values remain in a society devoid of rule of law. The way the story forces you to empathize with all the characters or make you outright hate them is something I’ve never really seen in a video game before. Critics of this game keep forgetting that this is a video game. The graphics are spectacular. I’ve never seen a game with such complex animations with almost no glitches or clipping. It’s extremely polished and the environments are stunning. The way they created the football stadium caught me in awe as I took my time looking for little details. Same with the museum and aquarium that were made to tell a story and not much else. The sense of scale was extraordinary. The only other studio developing games with this level of detail is Rockstar. Also, don’t forget the rope physics that literally took 3 months to add to the final game. There’s a scene where a character takes off her shirt over her head and there is no clipping. Then you have the gameplay. The only gripe I have is that you are rewarded for combing environments constantly for ammo and items. It gets tedious after 27 hours. Plus you never know on your first play though if you should be saving your stronger weapons or holding on to the ammo for later. Besides that, the action is so intense and the violence is unprecedented in a game. The detail of the gore in this game may turn off all but the most hardened fans. Naughty Dog has mastered survival horror gameplay. I found myself playing sections late at night excited and scared to make it though a room of infested zombies. I wouldn’t say I enjoyed fighting the zombies but I sure loved fighting human enemies. While the AI is still not the best, outsmarting a group of humans or stealthy taking them out one by one is so much fun. You feel like such a badass at times. That said, I’m not a fan of fighting dogs or dealing with them tracking my scent. Finally, I don’t understand the issues with the gender identity of characters or the story at all. Naughty Dog made creative decisions. The story is meant to be bleak and they took real risks with the story. I applaud them for that. If you consider the narrative arc from the first game, the characters fate makes perfect sense from a storytelling perspective. The characters all react realistically given their past and motivations. Disagree with the story. Hate it. But don’t give this game a 1. It’s not a 1 and you all know it. If this game had zero story at all and just had you killing humans and zombies, devoid of context, it’s still a 7/10. The fact that people are all so riled up over the plot is exactly what Naughty Dog wanted. It sells games and polarized fans, and has us coming back for more. We want to know what happens next. Sure, the story has been more or less told before, but not this way in a video game. Not where you are forced to play as the divisive character where you don’t get to choose what happens. You play as a character and you must do what the narrative commands to finish. It makes you, at times, feel disgusting. That’s the point. It’s genius and it’s a masterpiece we will be talking about for years to come. Expand

Expand

The graphics are amazing, one of the best looking games on PS4. They're really pushing the PS4 Pro hardware to it's limits and it shows.

Very bold and ambitious storytelling that aims to challenge people personal biases by subverting expectations and I believe it's done very well.

Some of the best characterization in a video game. Hyper realistic characters with lots of emotional depth. Really fantastic writing.

The way most people are criticizing this game is very shallow and reactionary. I think there are valid criticisms about the game. Not necessarily all ones that I will agree completely with but more valid ones nonetheless.

I understand if the game if the game is too grim for some people's liking. That’s going to be a preference thing and people have different thresholds for that. It's a sad, feel bad kind of game but it's also beautiful too.

I know this is not a story many wanted.

I had no story that I wanted. I like my expectations subverted when done well and for the most part I think they did do it well.

I think it's one of the best, most ambitious games ever made.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a worthy sequel to the first game. The world is gritty, the characters are broken and flawed (not in a bad way, but in a realistic way).

One of my favorite scenes in a movie was in Austin Powers when you see a sidecut of a family guy getting ready for work in the morning kissing his wife laughing with his kid, going to work at the station as a security guard, only to be steam rolled by Austin Powers on the slowest steam roller in the world from 200 feet away. That was like.. hey even NPC's have a hopes and dreams and lives.

Well, in this one Abby is introduced early as this brute of a bad guy. But we see more of her story throughout. Her motivations, her dreams or broken dreams. And you realize.. Theres no axis of evil. just anger, and guilt driving many of these characters. In the end i realized that with their cycle of violence and revenge... there really can't be "happy" endings.

I dropped 1 from my score because to me, it felt the game kind of dragged out some parts. To the point of feeling like padding. And there was one stretch of the game that felt like i was playing with just the light from the flashlight for way too long. i seriously considered lowering the game to easy on some parts to just run through them. Im glad i didnt though. Because the set pieces that followed were awe inspiring.

The gameplay had a weighty brutalness to it. i gritted my teeth through a lot of some of the violence.... but it just lended to the atmosphere of that new world in the game.

A lot of these super negative user reviews, seem to try to say a lot, but boil down to the story didn't go the way they wanted so the game is garbage. Don't let that sway you. this game is worth playing.

The gameplay is still fun. Stealthily killing enemies and zombies will never grow old. And the flashback scenes with Joel and Ellie are honestly the best parts of the game for me.
My biggest problem with the game is being forced to play as Abby for half of it. It's not fun. I want to know what happened to Ellie back at the theater. All your inventory is reset. And I hated the character. She's specifically introduced as an unlikable character due to her killing Joel. Only after you're forced to play as her for several hours do they try to establish her likability.
Why is likability so important, you may ask. Well, imagine in the last game, you played as David, the cannibal rapist for half the game. Sure, we may have slowly learned to empathize with him and his backstory or whatever, but is that really enjoyable? Especially when you're forced to almost kill your favorite characters.
To be forced to play as Abby for half the game when we could've spent more time with Ellie or Joel is a terrible decision. ND, you had one job: continue Ellie and Joel's story. And you **** failed spectacularly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally I really enjoyed it, and gameplay and storytelling wise, it was a definite improvement since the first game. Only real issue I found was that the final area felt rushed, unpaced or that something larger was cut due to content or time restraints. Other than that, this game was amazing. This review will very quickly summarize the first game, address this current game, and address the constant incredibly false rumors circling many gaming communities.

    This will contain [!!!!SPOILERS!!!!]

The game is a direct continuation, and the story is the complete result of Joel's decision at the end of the first "The Last of Us".

    Last Game Summary
In The Last of us 1, the story is about a man named Joel who is hired to take Ellie, who is immune to the zombie infection, to a specific set of people who would use her to make a cure for the infection, thus saving the planet. The game is mostly about Ellie and Joel bonding, and upon the end where Joel gives her up, he learns that Ellie will have to die in order to save all of humanity. Joel refuses to let her die, so he commits a brutal genocide of the innocent doctors, who are trying to save the planet, and lies to Ellie about what happened. Roll credits, to make the player really think critically about whether or not Joel was the bad guy or not.

    This Game Summary
In the Last of Us 2, It very clearly restates all that happened back to the many many people who didn't quite understand the end of the first game, who genuinely thought it was a happy ending. The story is perceived by 2 people. One is Ellie, the immune girl who Joel lied to her whole life, and who he let her live so everyone can suffer in the zombie hell hole. And Abby, the child of the cure-making, world-saving doctor who was brutally murdered by Joel. Abby on a quest for vengeance on the man who not only murdered her whole family, but also doomed all of humanity, and then to find the rest of her people, and Ellie on a quest to find her uncle and kill Abby, once Abby brutally takes revenge on Joel.

    The story and its symbolism
Both stories are reverse parrels and told in a very artist and symbolic way, causing many who didn't pay attention, have never taken a simple language class or are inept are reading between the lines, be confused or not understand it fully. Allow me to quickly summarize the basic themes.

Abby's story is one of redemption, and filled with many guilt and regret symbolism, especially as it becomes more and more apparent of her horrendous guilt he feels for Joel's murder and the fact that she really only wishes for the cycle of violence to end while trying hard to keep her composure. Her guilt toward Ellie and the realization that she caused Ellie to become similar to her in regards to revenge is a very apparent reason to why she lets her live in every single encounter. Her dreams, that appear in each day, are symbols of regret and that one day she may face her dad. Lev, Her f-m trans companion, is Abby's symbol of innocence and positivity whom she grows closer to as her redemption progresses

Ellie's is the story of anger and hate, started as an innocent girl, and ignited from Joel's death, it builds only in anger and depression. Constantly affected by her Joel/Abby related PSTD, she has constant flashbacks to Joel's death/ has intense handshakes and she pushes everyone away and seeks only violence. Dina is her symbol of innocent and positivity, who Ellie grows more cold and distant to Dina as character regresses.

    False Rumors/Statements

"There were papers in the first game that did say there were other immune children, or that the procedure would not 100% guaranteed"
The first game has no such papers. This is a simple false rumor that is incredibly easy to prove.

"Abby is trans. Male to Female, It's so obvious because she is so jacked"
This is unbelievably wrong. She is just strong.

    Conclusion
The game is great. However, if you were incredibly attached to Ellie and Joel, and honestly believed that the first last of us had a happy ending and that Joel's horrific actions were justified you may not like this game. That or if you're some moronic incel who can't play a decent game just because the MC is female

It is a 10/10 game ... unforgettable at the visual level, literally I thought I was watching and playing a movie, dynamic environments, at the story level I know that it was not easy to integrate so many nuances but they did it in an excellent way, since they did not They only left the comfort zone of a game to sell many copies but concentrated on exposing many traits of the people that we can feel identified, hatred, rancor, love, the relationship father and daughter, doing everything for the person that you love, but also show that although everything is wrong and you think that you are on the side of "good", it is not always like that, it is all about redemption and learning ....... very well accomplished, besides that I appreciate a game that does not only tells typical stories but dares to innovate ... LGBTTTIQ +, various types of love and affection, redemption and learning

I´m sure I´ll die of alcohol poisoning.

But it´s enjoyable. The point of where the story wants to go it´s not nearly as clear as the first game, but still is pretty good. And the gore is so graphic, hard to play and that´s a thumbs up. Accessibility options are magnific, never saw something like that. Soundtrack and graphics also great. Gameplay bores a little because there are no major changes in how to play, that didn´t happen in the first one because it was shorter and more well-paced. The main problem it´s that the game is way much longer than it should be. New characters are good and everything got the The Last Of Us vibe. I think it´s not as bad as people say but 94?! Come on! Is good, just like that. Plain good. Maybe it feels a little more-greater-than-life because Naughty Dog now knows the potential of this IP, but just enjoy it, or not, i don´t know, it totally works for me but I see people getting away and I fully understand it.

PS. It´s not as SJW as many people thinks, and if you´re gonna make that scares you away of a videogame you´re putting the phobia into the homo.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
