This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game challenges us as players to cope with the death of a beloved character, it knows you hate Abby, killing Joel is not a slap in the face of the player, but it's there to put you in the shoes of Ellie, we want Abby dead even if we know that she did exactly what we wanted to do to her, the game shows to us that we are no better than the person we most hate, the protagonist is the antagonist and vise versa. Abby has the moral high ground but we care more about Joel . This game is the train moral test and we all lost. Expand

A complex and emotional story about how far you will go for revenge and the consequences that it brings upon you. 2 different perspectives illustrates the idea that there are no heroes or villains in the cold and hardened world of the Last of Us. The only downside to the game is that some levels and chapters are very drawn out and I feel some of the second half could have been a bit shorter. I tend to feel this way with most when I find myself ready for the ending.

I can not stress enough this game is amazing and should be enjoyed from end to end and it requires empathy and reflection.. the final scenes will be with me forever and the ultimate message... this will be a hallmark of what we have to look forward to in future of gaming.

It's an incredible piece of art and in my opinion the standard which story based games should aspire to. People really need to tap into their empathy and reflect on the game before trashing it.

It's not a perfect game, but it's as close to a perfect game as I've seen in years.

But however i loved the game even though its probably not really the best game ever made but i reviewed it 10/10 to even out the score. I loved the story even though Joel died, and the ending to me was not really disappointing. I felt like it was better that Ellie finely after all these hours understood.

The gameplay to me was like the first game but that really didn't mattered to me because i bought the game for the story. So to me this was a really good game and I will probably play it over again to aim for the platinum trophy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to tell you about my impressions of the last of us part II. Many did not like the death of Joel like me. I believe that Joel deserved to live at least until the middle of the game. Flashbacks Ellie is the best in the game, very touching and cute scenes. The end of the game is very I would like to kill Abby, and I didn’t seem to want to kill her because I did not empathize with Abby, but Leo because he would have lost the only loved one in his life. Neil Drakman left the ending open and I would like to see the dlc or the final part in this game.

P.S I would like more Jackson or joyful memories from Ally's life. The game left mixed feelings, but because of my sympathy for Ally and my love for the previous part, I will give a positive assessment. I still fell in love with this part, for the positive and negative emotions I had.

However, it becomes a true hymn only for the second part, a match that gives you goosebumps. The new game “hurts us”, it “lets us down”, and even makes some of us “go away in the end”. And even if we could give it a chance to “start again”, the story “would keep itself” in spite of everything. The latter, I believe, is what makes The Last of Us Part II iconic.

Playing this game is a challenge, a fight we are destined to lose. As if standing on a ring with Naughty Dog, we are knocked down by the very first blow. Those of us, who strive to continue, will get hurt again and not once. Of course, this isn’t something we are used to as players. After all, what we love most about video games is the feeling of pleasure they give us. In response, the gaming industry has always focused on players and their needs, by producing games of different genres and styles, in order to bestow us this feeling. The Last of Us Part II is the first game, in my experience, which is not created for the player. It is created for the characters.

Seven years have passed, since we learnt the story of Joel and Ellie. And as in any great story, once it ends, the characters have it all to move on without their writers’ intervention. The idea of Neil Druckmann and the Co. was to give them an opportunity to live their lives by themselves. A respectful decision, yet a cruel one – not for the characters, but the players. The new game destroys all our expectations with respect to the story right in the beginning, and it does so ruthlessly. Moreover, it makes us do things we find brute, pointless and even mocking. It is tempting, in a fit of rage and despair, to blame the developers’ team in making a failure of a story, but… is it really their story?

No matter how terrifying it may sound, I truly believe that the narrative of The Last of Us Part II is the only possible continuation of a story that took off in the first part. Despite all the love we have for Joel and Ellie, they are still ordinary humans, whose decisions must have consequences. We can criticise Neil Druckmann for the chosen order of events, but, sooner or later, they would have happened anyway. It is much more important that he doesn’t make up a story, but puts the characters in a genuine environment crafted by their deeds, which allows them to be authentic. The question then is why do we need to have a game, which is created for the characters rather than us? Well, whatever we think of it, the new story is a brilliantly presented work of art, which can teach us many things.

It is not merely a revenge recital, as some of us complain – it is also a story of how important it is to stop at the right time. It is a story of forgiveness and being unable to forgive; a story of how frightening the PTSD effects are, especially in a world where love and peace are so precious and rare; a story of growing up being already an adult… Such attention to the narrative is not caused by the lack of technical virtues, but their utmost excellence. It wouldn’t be a Naughty Dog game, if the directing, music and acting weren’t so magnificent, while the gameplay really amazes with its meticulous attention to details, and live action fights.

In the end, the new game allows to dive into unimaginable depths of The Last of Us world as it is: dark, scary, and immensely sad. The only way to accept this story is, perhaps, to let the pain in. If in the first part we are united with Joel and Ellie by hope, in the second part we share a common trauma – a bond of far greater power.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Abby sucks. As a die hard Naughty Dog fan I am truly disappointed. I have been with them since the first Crash release and have bought every single game along with countless amounts of related merchandise because I’ve always loved their gameplay and their stories. From my childhood games of Crash Bandicoot (the whimsical animations, fun level designs, and addictive EVERYTHING), to the incredible Jak series (which Jak 2 was the first game I ever preordered), to the FAN-freaking-TASTIC Uncharted series, I honestly didn’t think it could get any better. Then The Last of Us came out. At first I was skeptical but it truly blew me away and set the standards for the quality of experience I expect from games I buy. Because of this die hard fandom, and love of Last of Us especially, I was PSYCHED for Last of Us part II.... but wow. How let down I’ve been. To see the legacy of such a beautifully crafted story tarnished by its sequel in attempts to cater/pander to the world of 2020 as well as all the trash characters to focus on/develop like Abby. Truly. I am disappointed. I only want to empathize and humanize the enemy in my games/story to a certain extent. That’s why as the bad guy is dying you humanize them in many stories so there’s both a “awww moment” as well as a “get the bad guy!!!” Moment. But to play half the game OVER humanizing the antagonist now makes me question the hero. Which then makes it hard to identify with Ellie because I’m confused and frustrated with Abby. Also, why does Abby have cannonballs for shoulders and moose thighs for arms? Truly, for a game I was so excited and backing, and avoiding all the spoilers that got leaked, I’m so disappointed. I signed the petition asking Naughty Dog To rewrite the story of the game... we shall see I suppose. This is what happens when too many “free spirits” get hired at Naughty Dog and you try to create a piece of art to sell rather than just be inherently good. Yes this is super subjective, but with a 4.6/10 versus it’s predecessor at a 9.1/10, I’d like to objectively point out I’m not the only who thinks it’s garbage. Expand

You can tell from reading most of the negative reviews that they are driven by a certain agenda (most obviously didn't play the game and just read up facts from the Wikipedia entry). They try to make this not too obvious by constructing fake arguments for their negative downvotes ("This game has plot holes... the character design is terrible...") Quite telling by the comments that claim Abby to be the Transgender character of the game... Yeah. Surprise. She isn't.
By all means TLOU2 is not a perfect game (it has some slog in the middle and could have been streamlined). But what it is, is still an amazing achievement. Character design, the level of detail, the intelligence of the AI - that's all top notch and unprecedented until now (RDR2 comes close second). As for the story: What other way could there have been? What did people expect? The further adventures of Joel and Ellie? A retreat of the same story - just with better graphics? The first game was based around "the things you do for love". The second takes this sentiment and turns it around. It is "the things you do out of hate". And - at least for me - it worked. It turned Abby from Ellie's Nemesis and a brute killer into a person that you can actually root for (at least understand her motives).
Of course, if you want your stories not challenging and clean cut, this is probably not for you. TLOU2 follows more in the vain of "Game of Thrones". And people complaining were probably also wishing that the latter was Ned Stark vs. Ice Zombies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Shame. Just shame. I had high hopes for this game, and they ruined it.
The game is hollow, does not have any message or even a conclusion. It is not The Last of Us, it is just misery porn with nothing ever good happening, no chance of Ellie to shine throughout the story that was supposed to be about her but became about a ruthless psycho woman who killed one of the main characters right off the bat. They played with the personalities of both Joel and Ellie for the sake of the plot and it was incredibly forced.
Joel would not trust a stranger. Neither would Tommy. Ellie would not forget that map at her enemy's base.

The game tries to manipulate the player into liking Abby, but it fails miserably. Ellie kills dogs, Abby pets them. The people Ellie kills scream and beg, Abby saves two children. However, Ellie feels bad ever time she kills someone whereas Abby gets happy about killing a pregnant girl. She has sex with her friend's boyfriend. She never shows any remorse for her actions, and does not learn anything by the end of the game. So, no character development at all. She is just there for the idea of a "strong woman character" but get this straight; having big muscles does not make you strong. Showing compassion does.
So, who thought having players play as Abby for 10+ hours is a good idea? The thing I hated the most was when I had to fight against Ellie as Abby. It is not even plausible that she could win that fight with no weapons whatsoever.
Overall, the game has completely shattered the old characters' personalities, lives, and hopes. We got the worst ending possible with Ellie having lost everything. They also lied to the players in trailers and by not giving any info about playing as Abby. They knew we were here for Joel and Ellie so they kept it. The whole plot is filled with major plot holes and cheap emotional manipulation. On top of that, you have to play 10+ hours with a character you hate just to see this messed up ending.
No, thanks. Naughty dog has just lost a fan, and Neil Druckmann will be remembered as one of the worst writers for years to come.
The only reason I'm not rating it 0/10 is because of the hard work the design team has put into their work.

As a player, I've never been so excited to finish a game to see how it ends, but at the same time, as the final approaches, I get more and more sentimental and sad. Emotional chaos is wanted from a plot point of view. Overall, a very good job of Naughty Dog as they manage to convey feelings in this game.

The plot idea in this game, paired with the breathtaking setting, the ingeniously used zombies, and the perfectly realistic dialogues and facial expressions, really inspired me from the first moment in the game. There is no comparable story I played with similar plot twists so far.

It begins with a scene with Tommy, the brother of Joel, and Joel himself. The dialog is a minimalist hint where the journey could lead to plot-wise.

The creators shed light from other perspectives on Joels decision to rescue Ellie from the Firefly researchers. It was already clear in the first TLOU that due to his previous history, Joel might have acted selfishly. All shades of gray will be needed to explore the good and the bad within TLOU2.

It is developing a masterful drama, which grabbed me immediately. The ultra-realistic dialogues mentioned above are an important point. Every, and I mean every spoken sentence makes sense and is on point. It's bizarre how good the story is advanced by the cutscenes. A grand manifesto is revealed to the player the further he follows this story, which also has the best facial animations in the whole PS4 game history.
In one sentence: The most human game ever for the PS4.

In a game that is also told by flashbacks, I always had the feeling that I was already or very close to the finale and was still more fascinated that the story continued elegantly. And if you think you are finished, you are not finished. And when you think you're at the end, it goes on;). Loved all the twists.

The design that is the all-around depressing mood, especially in buildings contaminated with spores, is just top-notch. My request, take your time to explore the area and let the scenery affect you here and there. Worth it. Rarely has a game brought the mood and the environment or landscape so well into harmony.

Unlike Uncharted, TLOU2 takes itself completely seriously. It's a cinematic drama through and through. So it is actually clear that the characters are not equipped with adventurous moves or weapons. Everything is perfectly reduced, the skills of the characters fit very well into the setting.

The choice of skills and combat items are well thought out. Sneaking and shooting must be skillfully used to withstand larger waves of opponents. Every now and then you get a mostly nice introduction in a very well built-in tutorial. Over time, the fighting techniques should be mastered so that the more difficult opponents can be stopped at battlefields. To put it simply, there are only three game mechanics: Stealth - Fight - Explore.

Most sections are perfectly balanced. It always remains breathtakingly exciting. The gameplay is ideal for perfectionists because, with a little practice, the character can be moved damn realistic creeping, crawling, running, throwing, hitting and shooting across the field, so that everything looks like an action-packed stealth film. The movements especially during the fight, the change between weapons and the many possibilities to use hiding places and cover give the combat system a big variation. I really enjoyed facing all kinds of opponents in combat.

    My rating: (category; grade; weighting)
    Gameplay; 9 out of 10; 2/6

You need full attention, I mean FULL attention to really understand the story and it's message and it's much more than just revenge, it's forgiveness but also having a peace with yourself and how you deal with grief and anger. 25 hours of mostly killing people is not enough to tell a big story like this, and they're using these little subtle hints to tell what is actually happening and most people won't notice these hints, which hurts the game for those people. The game needs more time (not gameplay time) so they don't need use these subtle hints to tell the story. Plus it's not a straightforward storytelling, which is not ideal for the people that play the game intermittently, those people would forget what has happened in the game. For me it's a great solid game, with amazing acting and animation (the best I've ever seen), marvelous soundtrack, fun stealth, satisfying combat (some of it dragged out more than I would like), a little confusing story at first but not anymore. And that is 8.8/10. But I will post it 10 because so many fake players giving it 0 which is not fair at all, so a 10 for balance things out. Expand

    In short;
    Visually Amazing
    Cool New UI
Decent action gameplay (not frequent enough)
    Old game mechanics
The story is poorly written and executed abysmally
Very poor character development (of old and new characters)

It is clear the Director of this game is trying to be a Hideo Kojima, James Wan or even a Robert Kirkman but fails big time and has a long way to go to get to their level of writing and story telling.

I firmly believe that it deserves a dedicated page in the game history textbooks of the future.
Modern games are more or less used to introduce consequences of difficult decisions without any "best choice", but this game raises the bar sky-high.
Hatred, shock, pain, remorse, guilt, forgiveness - not pleasant at all, but among the strongest feelings - and this game will force you to feel it all and will leave you an exhausted emotional wreck, transformed by the experienced you lived.
The only downside I can make is that this game sort of rapes the player, forcing them into the sequence of actions, that is pretty logical and understandable for the traumatised character, but very unlikely normal to the player as a person. Probably a warning of some kind could be useful.
But anyway - this is a new gold standard.
    Amazing job, ND.

Best game this year so far. Absolutelly loved it. Great visual and gameplay, found no bugs during two playthrough (first was 30 hours), which is rare now. About story.. It was different from first one, darker, sad, but still good and interesting. One thing can be seen different from other perspective. Great job Naughty Dog.

While the pacing and structure can be nauseating on a first playthrough, the subtext, elements, character depth and unconventional methods to support a poignant theme resonate from the square button to the end credits. Not as bad as people think it is. Everything was 10/10 quality apart from certain structural issues and lmao “bigot sandwiches“. Loved breathing every minute into this world.

This game will be hit or miss for a lot of people, the story was all over the place and felt forced in many instances, the whole "cycle of revenge" trope feels very tired at this point, and Elly taking the decision to not take Abby's life in the end to supposedly end the cycle makes no sense, since she proceeded to kill hundreds of people during the course of the game, and every kill could potentially create another "Cycle", this is a case where the story and gameplay just don't mesh well together at all. I'm also not saying that killing joel at the start of the game was that bad of a decision, it just could've been handled a lot better. As always the gameplay and graphics are top notch for a naughty dog game, I just never really felt invested in the story, and it felt like they could also skim 5 hours off the game which felt unnecessarilly long, especially in the abby section of the game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game was honestly so boring and disappointing that I had to stop playing halfway in, then looked up the ending online. Can't say I missed anything. Going through repetitive gameplay mechanics, just for an obvious and underwhelming ending you can see coming from a mile away, just wasn't worth it. The graphics will make you awe for an hour or so, then it loses its magic.

The first game had a DLC that was ten times more satisfying when it comes to a cute relationship, this one just felt like teen soap opera with an annoying amount of GOT style deaths. Almost everyone felt empty and out-of-character except Tommy, and I couldn't feel even a single grain of sympathy for Abby throughout the whole game, in fact I just wanted her to die. I don't care what kinda sob story she has, she was irredeemable after what she had done in the first hour of the game.

I am disappointed, and sad. So much potential has been wasted simply due to bad writing and deceitful marketing.

Strangely enough, in all the reviews that praise the game to the skies, there is no criticism of obvious weaknesses like the extremely repetitive game-play. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Calling the story poor is lazy.
Calling the story perfect is lazy
The story is brave and the morale that is tried to be established is alluring.
I think for most people, where the story "fails" is that you have expected to see another story about your heroes. You expected to get a character development and an arc that makes sense for a fan, and that is something that Neil will have to deal with the team in the future. By the end of the day one could even say that you have created trailers that pointed in a wrong direction....you misguided our hopes.

My recommendation would be to re-think the structural time-line that had been chosen and try to understand it's challenges for the future. By the end of the day there are so many themes and motives that need to be understood in order to really capture the meaning of the game that it would be taking a lot of Empathy, Forgiveness, Love to understand. How much love did you show the people by misguiding their hopes and emotions? How much Love did you show people by butchering Joel like that and how much Forgiveness did you offer to People by giving them this end?

Also, my recommendation would be to review what is expected of the player (empathy) vs. what is shown by the characters (Abby, where is the empathy?)

Did Elli lost herself? Lost her fingers, lost her ability to play the guitar? Her ability to connect with Joel ? Who is Elli now and how will she get back on track? ...7 years for this is really harsh.

Did Abby forgive Elli? Will she be able to understand her sins? Will she be able to grow a conscious? Does she still feel it was right?....

Why did Joels brother go to Elli and requested revenge? Isn't he the real adult? Doesn't he KNOW his brother? Joel never would have wanted this...

The game creates a lot of questions and you leave people alone. I like being alone, but others might feel differently. It is an absolute hate-it-or-love-it product and you have to deal with that Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start with the positive points: The graphic quality and animations are very well achieved, the effort of the developers is evident. NPCs have artificial intelligence far above what we are used to, EVEN PLANNING WHERE TO ATTACK. The gameplay is very good and improved compared to the first part, a great success without a doubt. The brutality and violence of the fighting enchanted me, the violence of the world is very explicit. The environments are very detailed and make you feel in a real apocalypse, very well worked. The negative points: The story is meaningless, it's full of Flashbacks that cut the gaming experience, make our beloved Joel look like the bad boy in the story, and even Ellie gets mad because "I won't let her decide her fate" When she was already on the stretcher in the first game. They make you play MORE THAN 10 HOURS WITH ABBY, that in addition to killing Joel in the worst and most treacherous way possible, and who by the way would NEVER have trusted a stranger, and also give him their names .. What head does that fit? It goes against the principles of the same character. They make you play with Abby fighting and trying to kill Ellie .. And then she feels sorry when 2 Asians save her life, and does she feel indebted? Why didn't you feel that way when Joel saved your life too? ... doesn't make sense, a poorly planned script. And the music is not bad, I love Gustavo Santaolalla, but it does not stand out much, it could be much better. They had the whole community on their side, too bad they didn't listen. If it were not for the points mentioned above, more than anything El diablo (Abby) and the story so poorly told, my opinion would be different, but unfortunately it is not. If you are someone who is looking for an escapist shooter game or someone who prefers their games not to be emotionally challenging / to engage with "deep" and difficult life questions then this game is simply not made for you. It´s just not the game the creators wanted to make.
To me the mixture of incredible graphics and details with complex and mature storytelling has resulted not only in the best game I have ever played, but in an emotional experience that still has me reeling days after finishing it.

There is not much to say about the gameplay since I don´t think that anybody can disagree that it is beyond anything that is out there. The details in the characters and environment are just as mind-blowing as some of the game-mechanics. I cannot count the times that I stopped "playing" just to look around and marvel, or the times I was gob smacked at simple, tiny details the creators thought of adding. Tiny things such as movement of trees and snow, faces and materials.

As for the narrative structure - Naughty Dog manages to combine and intersect four parallel timelines and provide us with an in-depth study of the effects of grief and revenge and to challenge our own ability for forgiveness in a way that would be difficult for most other media to pull off.

The main "twist" in the middle of the game made me incredibly angry at first, made me want to put down my controller and walk away. But as the game progressed I realized that it was necessary to really make you feel the "lesson" that Naughty Dog is trying to "teach", to challenge your own emotions and biases. The way that the two main characters' stories are so different yet still mirror each other so closely takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that is difficult to explain.

As gut wrenching as the ending was and as much as I want to erase the last few chapters, it certainly drove home the point for me and fit in with the rest of the story.

Lastly, I must mention the elephant in the room. While many people are decrying the "politics" and "woke-ness" of the game, I am INCREDIBLY appreciative that Naughty Dog did not shy away from it and instead made a story in which those aspects are front and centre, but at the same time - aren´t. They are simply part of the main characters, they are normalized and never "exploited".

So overall I must thank Naughty Dog for this epic game, and epic story. I will certainly play it again when I feel emotionally ready to do so.

Крайне важно, что в the last of us 2 интересно не только наблюдать за сюжетом, но и играть.

It's not as good as the first game, but in and of itself, the game is great. It has its flaws when it comes to pacing and structure though. Red Dead Redemption comes close to the detail part, but is still a mile away from what Naughty Dog achieved with The Last Of Us Part II.

The story lacks a bit unfortunately. The story had potential to be much better, had it undergone diffrent editing in form of what happens when, and in what order things happen in. With that said, the story Naughty Dog went for was great in and of itself and i experienced emotions i've never experienced during a game. I applaud ND for the direction they went. I personally enjoyed it very much and i know i will have more playthroughs!

I personally really enjoyed some parts of the game like beating up Abby, combat, graphics, characters. But the story line was somewhat mediocre. Especially 10 hours of Abby gameplay was really stressful and painful for me. On the other hand I missed Joel so much the entire game. It was painful to see how he was tortured and killed. But I would definitely recommend this game to everyone just to let them see what this game has to offer. Expand

I just can't believe how they spoiled this game ... This game could be a great success, they didn't have to do anything really special and it would easily be the game of the year. And so we received the game with the worst story of all time, written by a mentally unstable naughtydog ... I want my money back. And you can be sure that I will never buy a game from this studio again.

It was fun. It was very brutal. AI incredibly tricky sometimes. Combat satisfying and disturbing due to the shrills of pain. Too much pro gay agenda honestly but still an ok game. I played it. Felt bad for Joel. Felt confused about the ending it was unrealistic to me. I enjoyed it and I'm glad I played it. Probably not going to play it again though.

Really enjoyed this game, it came with a big shock very early on but as the game wears on and characters develop it all starts to make sense. I feel that the villains are still slow and easy to kill, using the same basic moves every time to kill them or the clickers does get a bit boring but the story line is still great and there is enough to keep things flowing nicely.

This review is for anyone who's actually considering whether to buy the game or not. I'll try to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible, and try to keep it as unbiased as I can, considering the **** show which is the discussion around this game.

I'll start with the obvious: this game has AMAZING graphics and art design, with some of the best environments in video games. It also has some incredible set pieces and gameplay sections. The gameplay itself isn't anything ground breaking but it's polished to a degree that makes it stand out of the crowd by just how tense and authentic it feels. Combat is intense and desperate, feel is incredible, exploration is actually rewarding and at least for me the mixing of all these elements was done incredibly and the pacing felt correct.
However, there were parts that overstayed their welcome. I would have maybe cut a few encounters and let the story progress a bit faster. On the other hand there are things I think there's not enough of: there is one surprisingly open area near the start that was very fun to explore and I thought it's a shame this didn't repeat again. This is something Naughty Dog had started doing in their games since Uncharted 4 and I really like this direction.
The character animations, the acting and the writing of dialog is top-notch and in my opinion still not matched by any other game (although RDR2 and God of War come close).

I don't think there's a lot of controversy around these points. Some people don't like the gameplay as much but it's obvious the reason this game got so many dislikes is the story, so this is what I'll address now.

This game does some things with its narrative that take a lot of balls considering its budget. It continues an overwhelmingly praised game and does it in a way probably no one would ever think it would. This was a risky move and it shows. It was never meant to appeal to everyone. But the leaks that happened before the game came out gave people a lot of time to get angry about decisions made, without letting them experience it in the proper context. This doesn't mean people would have loved it if it wasn't for the leaks, but I think the discussion around it wasn't as toxic.
Without any spoilers, the narrative tries to take the player through an emotional journey. This means that it can ONLY work if the player feels the emotions that the writers wanted them to feel, at the right moments. If the player is not in sync with the emotions the story wants them to feel, then the story just feels off. This means the story will probably not work very well for people who didn't play
or didn't like the first game. This is also why the story is built in a certain way and why there are a lot of emotional manipulations done here - the story tries its hardest to make you feel the proper emotions at the right time. Some people will see these manipulations and won't like it. I don't mind them because story is always about the manipulation of emotions. That's how Pixar movies always make us cry. It's not a cheap trick, it's a tool writers use.
I encourage anyone (who thinks they are mature enough to play this - again, this is NOT for everyone, and can be very disturbing) to give this game a try, because if you are in sync with it like I was it pays off, and you come out of it with extreme appreciation for the experience. If it doesn't, well, I did warn you... If what I said makes you worried you're not going to like it then maybe wait a bit for the price to drop.
And at the end of all, I think this is a really polished and long single player experience, with some incredible moments, and even if the story doesn't work for you like it tried to, you can still enjoy it if you like this sort of games.
I was thinking about giving it a 10 but I thought it might be an overreaction on my part, due to the amount of 0's it got. It did have some issues (like I said, mostly over stretching a few parts), so I went with a 9. All in all this doesn't matter, the score itself doesn't mean **** Read the review, try to see if what I said clicked with you or made you intrigued, and decide for yourself.

Arguably it is actually on the gameplay mechanics front that I am a bit disappointed -- it is still functionally identical to TLoU1, whereas the trailers and previews suggested there was a lot more tension and smart enemy AI. In reality I am still able to very slowly and deliberately stealth my way through some levels, picking enemies off one-by-one. This suits my play style, but I was hoping for more changes on this front. I will be trying it on Survivor+ to see if that changes things.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
