This game hurt my soul in so many ways, I was mad and sad and did not enjoy the experience at all. Even though the gameplay was polished from the first game the story was just appalling and disgusting. How can this game get a 10/10? Are people bought to leave such positive reviews? I tried to play this game with a open mind but it did not work! The first game was a masterpiece! They really should have created other characters completely for this game and last of us 3 maybe could have returned to the wonderful story of Ellie and Joel. How could they even think this would be a great idea? Screw you Naughty dog and Neil! Thx for destroying this game for nothing..

It's the year 2020, and you can't believe a word the critics say anymore, if you ever truly could.

This is a game in which the creator and director of the series Neil Druckmann introduces a brand new, preposterously muscular female main character, who destroys the original game's story while Neil's self-insert spits on its corpse. And even though Sony censors the slightest half-nudity in every other game imaginable, we get to see a graphic sex scene involving this new TLOU2 protagonist - but it's not the kind of sex scene anyone would ever want to watch. Which is why it gets a pass, I'm sure.

It all feels similar to what Neil did with the Uncharted series after he forced that series's creator, veteran female game developer Amy Hennig, out of the company, because he's such a self-proclaimed feminist don't you see. Nothing can get in the way of Neil and his faux-progressive agenda, even if he has to break the backs of all the famously overworked employees at his stolen company, Naughty Dog. He even inserted himself as a "trading card" you can find in TLOU2, in which his comic book character "Dr. Uckmann" is described as a super genius (10/10 intellect score) and leader of the "New Dogs." Which really just says it all right there.

The "game" itself is just a typical modern walking simulator shoved in between ELEVEN HOURS of cutscenes. In which the player is forced to kill people and animals and then made to feel bad for doing so, even though you had no choice, because there's no real player agency in this "game." Remember when video games used to be fun? Oh, I forgot, Neil literally said he and the "New Dogs" never use that word. Yes, seriously. Look it up.

Unbelievable. Please don't buy this game.

high quality textures, nice details (notes being wet after swimming), easter eggs (Gustavo Santaolalla (music producer) at the beginning of the game) and motion capture for characters make TLOU2 one of the most astounding games ever made even prettier than most AAA games for pc.

    Audio 10/10:
no matter what you get on the screen the audio is always appropriate and high quality.
Sounds like gunshots and voices can change depending on the enviroment.

    Gameplay 8/10:
Good visuals and audio make the game very immersive. Also mentionable are the good physics like blood behaviour. Guns feel allright but not topnotch. Melee fights feel good with many types of finishing moves, the dodge ability and the variety of weapons. The levels are linear and you often can see an upcoming fight only based on the amount of cover. Enemies are a big positive point: natural movement, behaviour (looking after a fallen companion), changing fight tactics and variety make enemies challenging and enjoyable. Crafting and skilling is well made motivading you to search every corner for loot.

    Story 4/10:
The only reason why this game gets a bad rating from me. As a storygame the story is the most important part and has way more impact on the end score than gameplay etc..
Its a story about revenge and forgiveness. After Joel gets tortured, killed by Abby in front of Ellie Ellie goes to Seattle for revenge with Dina, Tommy and Jesse. After slaughtering our way through hundrets of fungi, WLFs, dogs(!) and Abbyfriends as Ellie we are confronted with Abby instakilling Jesse. Now we get a 10 hours long flashback of Abby and her perspective having nothing to do with Ellie. ND tries to make Abby more likeable and understandable by showing her "nice" side. This attempt to show the other side of the coin fails badly. Abbys action of avenging her dead father (doctor we killed as Joel) by travelling thousand miles only to torture Joel who has saved her life from zombies minutes ago infront of a familiy member who beggs for merci is unsympathetic and tells the audience that Abby is an evil psychopath not able to forgive an act that happened 4 years ago. In the flashback we can see that Abby knows of the actions of the Fireflys to kill Ellie without her and Joels consent. By that she also knows that Joel only defended his daughter making her vengeance even more absurd and cruel. As Abby we also get to know Abbys collegues who confirm my opinion about the WLF being a bunch of scumbags. The WLF is at war Scars aka. an aggressive religious scumtribe. After Abbys story showing how she changes from a cruel killer to a nice person within 2 or 3 days we get back to the final fight playing as Abby. Now we can see that Tommy got shot in the eye by Abby after saving Ellie from a bullet. Now we fight against Ellie and win. As we are about to kill Ellie Dina attacks us with a knife. Luckily Lev is here to save the day by shooting Dina in her arm. As we are about to kill Dina Ellie tells Abby that Dina is pregnant. She responded with "good". The only thing that stopped her is Lev. The game tries to make us understand and forgive Abby for 10 hours straight but the only thing it achieves is confirming our prejudices about Abby being a cruel psychopath. After the fight we get a big time jump to Ellie being together with Dina and her child in a nice farmhouse. As it turns out Tommy is alive. He comes along showing Ellie where Abby currently is. After she refuses to avenge Joel Tommy gets mad and calls her a coward. Thats straight up **** Tommy was the guy who has gone out for revenge without Ellie because he worried about her. He even told his wife to lock Ellie in Jackson and now he suddenly doesnt care about her even though she has more to loose than ever before. Now Ellies ptsd comes back and she cant let go of Abby. She goes after her knowing she lost Dina and her child with that descision. After she meets Abby in a horrible condition prisoned by Rattlers she fights her. As she was about to kill her she thinks about Joel how she forgave him and realises that revenge wont make her happier so she lets go of Abby which is quite unrealistic considering she murdered hundrets of people only to get to Abby. Now she turns back home where nobody is left. She then tries to play her guitar but with only 3 fingers left she isnt able to (Abby bit them off). So she leaves her last memory of Joel behind.

A dark story where everybody looses because of revenge. Especially Ellie even though she spared Abbys life. Main problem is a lack of character developement, plot holes and the game trying so hard to make Abby likeable but achiving the opposite. Because of that the game feels very unsatisfying.
The idea of a revenge story where both sides of the coin are shown is good but executed poorly.
I could live with a sad story (even though its not my taste) as long it is greatly written.
Its a shame they didnt spend more time making a good TLOU2 story.

Sucks that he died but I guess it happened and it turned out to be not as bad as i thought. The ending was a bit disappointing though, especially how the game just ends and you are left on The Farm with nothing. The game was overall really good actually a lot better than I expected after I saw the leaks. I hope there's another part because this was really good and I want a continuation. Expand

The funny part about it is that the game talks about hate and how it acts in society, such as how toxic and harmful it can be to the people who receive it and to the people who spread it out.

You can be 10, 20, 30 or 50 years old, but if you're a prejudiced, immature or/and an ignorant person, you will totally hate the game. I get it, man. If this is the case, I tell you: grow up and try to see things beyond your limited view. The majority (not all, but the majority) prejudice comments just make the genius of the team behind the game more evident.

Just to finish it: The Last of Us Part || is not a perfect game, but only because there's nothing perfect in this world. Anyway, this game gets really close to something I'd call "absolutely perfect". All my compliments to the Naughty Dog's team. You guys are the best.

The Game is absolute trash the story makes no sense this game makes you play more than 10 hrs as **** Abby really they make you play and understand why she did what she did and its hopeless. She only got revenge on Joel because he killed his father. Joel killed many people before him and those could be parents who have children to but no Hulk needed revenge on Joel. We didn't even played more than 3 hrs and Joel died because of Abby. This game in my opinion it disrespects the man I mean the sex because as you can see they kill Joel and Jessie, and leave Tommy absolutely harmed without chance of defending himself but the woman who is Dina, Abby, Lev, and Ellie got to survive to be right on tha choices they make, and they are bad examples for the player I mean Dina and Ellie smoked weed and then they had fun, Abby killed Joel to show us that she was no better than him because he got revenge and harmed Ellie physically and emotionally as kind of how Joel did so what is the game telling us? That revange is the best way to solve problems?, no **** way! These needs to know, you need to know Neil Druckman that your not a mater mind as you think. If you want gamers to be happy with the game admit that you were wrong doing it and try on doing the game all over again with better story than that. Im really disappointed. Expand

Lots of fans (just like me) were not interested in playing Abby. The way the game tries have you to empathize with her is just pathetic. Abby's point of view, wasnt even that immersive. And they forced u to beat Ellie up, "kill" Joel... for me, it was not a story to enjoy, since E&J were the main reason why I bought the game.

The game fails miserabily also in the ending. All the suffering and sacrifices from Ellie, made no sense in the end.
I get it NG, REVENGE IS BAD, but also bad writing, imposing agendas and changing chars behaviour just to have the "story" go the way u want it to go.
The story could have so much potential: Joel's death could have been developed much much better. it's so bitter to see your MC from the first game being killed (just for a story trope), by a random antagonist just introduced.
I think most of the players wanted to see the development in Ellie and Joel relationship, and how the whole choice about saving Ellie's life could have changed and progressed between the two. We get just a little chat about that, but nothing more.

And, about the side characters. just crap, Unlike the original ones. The old characters, are so diverse from the 1st game, its so sad to see how they changed them just to fit their agenda.

Finally, save ur money. See some streamer play it, it doesnt deserve time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains spoilers. The Last of Us 2 is a true testament to how not to make a sequel for a game. While gameplay received better animations and such, it mostly remained the exact same and becomes monotonous and predictable over the 25+ hour story. While it’s not bad, you'd hope for a much bigger upgrade or overhaul of crafting and other gameplay mechanics, but many remained completely untouched. But the gameplay isn’t what causes this game to be a failure in my opinion, because that’s not what people really play TLOU for anyways. People play for the characters and story, which is nothing short of disappointing and misguided in this game. The utter lack of respect toward previous or even new characters prevents the player from getting invested in them, and the game fails to utilize the one relationship the player was already invested in going into the game. Instead they demolish that relationship, and never really show it getting back to anything of what it used to be. Most other characters in this game are stagnant and replaceable, and while they have good performances, fail to make me care about them in a meaningful way. That is, until they get brutally murdered on a quest for revenge. By the end of the game I was so numb to violence nothing shocked me anymore, and I’m not sure what the game was even trying to say through all this violence and misery. What I do know is that I feel devastated for Ellie and deep hatred for another character. I truly hope Naughty Dog lets this franchise die in the pit they dug for it. I absolutely loved the first game, but this train wreck wants me to feel depressed for nothing. Some of the lessons it tries to teach seem so stupidly simple I asked myself if I was even hearing it right. All I can hear now is the ringing in my ears after listening to one of my favorite games get pillaged and massacred in the name of “Subverted Expectations”. Do not recommend Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the greatest story I've ever played. As the youtube channel "Girlfriend Reviews" mentions, it starts off as a cliché, revenge story, but transforms completely into something never before done in storytelling, and something that can be achieved really only through an immersive video game experience.

What other way for us to become fueled with rage, to BECOME Ellie, than for us to experience something as horrible as losing one of our favorite video game heroes of the 2010's? Which, is clearly not as bad as losing a real father figure like Ellie did. I felt so much anger, frustration, and conflict, being forced to play as Abby, hunting down.... myself.

This game forces you to think critically outside of your subjective point of view about who's right and who's wrong. No game could challenge us morally like this game has. Another insightful thing that "Girlfriend Reviews" mentioned was that in the same way that we are forced to walk in the shoes of our hated enemy, and grow to see their struggle and empathize with them, Abby herself is walking in the shoes of Lev and Yara, her hated enemies, and learning to do care for them... I've never felt such a real guilt in a game from killing all of Abby's friends as I did when I began to learn and care about them... remembering how justified I felt in offing theses "bad guys."

Not to even mention the gorgeous graphics, creative gameplay situations, varied environments, and lack of performance issues.

HOWever..... WHY did they make me kill dogs :'(
That level of conflict was almost on par with mashing the square button, trying to push a knife into Ellie's face or Abby's heart.

Naughty Dog has proved again to be a master at making you feel SO conflicted. Beyond just sad or happy or angry, but complex emotions like guilt and conflict. What other game can do that! All in all, amazing.

It was brave what Druckmann & co. tried to do, but it didn't work. I don't mind the death of a certain character, but my problem was how and when it happened. It was out of character and felt rushed. And the Abby story? My gosh, I really couldn't care less about Abby and her friends and just wanted to run through her story as fast as possible. At one point they showed a friend of hers in a body bag, and we were supposed to feel sad or shocked he was dead. But honestly, I had no clue who the dude was. That's how little character development these guys got.

Dina and Ellie were definitely cute together, I just wished the built up Dina's character and her relationship to Ellie more because until the farm with JJ, they had very little chemistry.

Oh and the Abby and Owen scene (you know which one I'm talking about) was pure cringe.

All in all, this game is a 5. Bec the story is way more important to me than graphics and gameplay in a game like this, it will also weigh in heavier.

I think I would have been happier with Ellie and Joel's story if LoU2 never happened.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When i heard the news that the game is going to be suck... i was hesitate to finish the game or even start the game. Took me a month to finish the game. Here is what i thought about the game.

    Pros
    ------
    - The graphic and gameplay is great! gameplay is a little repetitive, but I'm still enjoying it
    - The world is more real than previous entry, they added more details and story in the game that makes me believable
    - Two characters gameplay, makes me understand each character's story more.
    - Because i get to understand Abby side of story, I started to care of her. I'm glad Ellie didn't kill Abby... But I can't forgive what she did to Joel. (It should have be Dina die instead of Joel)
    - Character Control has improved from the last game
    - Weapon and Ability upgrade are big improvement and i like it.

    Cons
    -------
    - Enemy AI are not as intelligent as what the first demo shown(so Naughty Dog, please don't lie to us again)
    - I find the action and gunplay are not as good as the first one but is acceptable
    - Character Dialogues is kinda weird to me, is not Last of Us style, too slow and too much pausing in between dialogues....
    - Sex Scene is unnecessary in Last of Us story... Seriously, not necessary, kinda ruined the story.
    - Too much Flashback and some scene transition can edit better.
    - Abby's Gameplay are more exciting than Ellie's Gameplay and Abby have more interesting infected enemy.
    - Story is not the best Last of Us story.
    - Too many Characters sudden death.....

In conclusion, you either love Last of Us Part II or hate it, so i can't give this game 10/10 but 8/10.

If you want to keep the good memory of this game, just treat the Part II doesn't exist. Because of Part 1 ending is perfect cliffhanger and it will always be a masterpiece.

If Naughty Dog decide to release Director's Edition that make the whole story interesting and didn't let Joel Die, I would love to play again.

I really wanted to like this game, gave it every chance, but it's simply just not good enough.

*This game is a hate letter to fans of Joel and Ellie*

The Last of Us Part 2 is a betrayal. It undermines the beautifully ambiguous storytelling of the first game and dishonors what Joel and Ellie had to survive and endure. It takes these beloved characters and ruins them to hammer in that Abby was no worse than Joel, Ellie was no better than Joel, and Joel was a villain. In contrast, themes like revenge, violence, and forgiveness all ring hollow in this sadistic game.

Neil Druckmann has said he loves Joel and Ellie, but actions speak louder than words. Make no mistake, the Joel and Ellie fans loved from the first game are gone - one literally and the other all but in name. And while most of the fan hate focuses on what was done to Joel, it’s really Ellie who gets the worse treatment. The story Druckmann chose to write takes a tough as nails yet charmingly sarcastic and plucky girl and methodically breaks her, both psychologically and physically. It also makes the player complicit in this narrative with no choices, aside from simply not playing the game.

So, Naughty Dog tricked fans into participating in a beautifully produced snuff film and now wants praise for their audacity. Certainly, plenty of professional gaming journalists have done just that, along with allies of social diversity who may or may not have even played the game. To be fair, I can’t fault people too much since any critics run the risk of being labeled bigots and getting blacklisted. In fact, defending the game may even be a way of rationalizing what was done in hopes it wasn’t all for nothing, similar to how other fans might wish it was all just a fever dream.

If the choice is between a kind of Stockholm Syndrome or becoming depressed, all the false praise for TLOU2 makes a lot of sense. Seeing the sheer amount of mental gymnastics the defenders of this game are willing to perform is impressive. There’s no doubt what Naughty Dog did to their fans was both by design and rather clever. If there’s one defining zeitgeist of our times, it’s divisiveness. Also, they couldn’t have been given a better time to release than 2020. Truly, a masterpiece of malicious manipulation.

There’s just one small problem with Naughty Dog’s strategy - it seems to have alienated a significant portion of their fan base. What that means for the survival of the franchise and the developer only time will tell. But for Joel and Ellie’s sake, an old proverb comes to mind...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Crazy thing is....I truly believe Ellie did have a happy ending, we just missed the clues... another YouTuber commented on the letter you find at the farm when you are with Dina and the baby. It's from the baby's father's mom saying they will always have a place in Jackson if they choose to come back home. And, if you notice.....when Ellie leaves to fight Abby at the end....she's not wearing the bracelet Dina gave her....but when she returns...the camera zooms in on her hand ...we were focused on the fingers missing but looked completey passed the fact that now she is wearing the bracelet, possibly meaning she has already been to Jackson...and is living with Dina......she just went back to the farm for the guitar....but decided to leave it. That represents her finally being able to accept Joel's death and end the cycle of revenge.

Here's some more things to back this claim......

    1. When she comes back to the farm...she's not hurt or not wearing any of her weapons.

    2. She doesn't seem surprised that everyone is gone when she enters the house. She doesn't call out Dina's name or anything.

I think people were so caught up in "Revenge" that they missed all of these details.

I wish I could remember the YouTubers name who pointed the letter and the bracelet out but sadly I don't remember... he/she is the real hero.....I just added more context and details to back their theory.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There was a quote in the original that Ellie asked "do you think they had friends or family?" And Joel said "it's best not to think about that." This game makes you think about it whether you like it or not - I liked that part. The feeling of you feel like crap, I liked that.

I hated Dina and Ellie's relationship, which makes up a majority of the game, to where when Ellie leaves her at the theater I was relieved because it felt forced to promote SJW stuff when it could have been handled like Drake and Elena's relationship where it was funny and smart and sweet and great despite their circumstances, but they didn't want that and wanted to go straight for the "if you don't like this relationship than you're a homophobe" type of writing (which is called lazy writing). I actually liked Abby more than Ellie, oh my word. I haven't finished it ven after hearing the leaks and listening to the backlash and all of that. Alot of the hate is out of context because of the leaks and rumors (Abby is trans, homophobic Christian cult), but some of the hate is legitimate (character motivation, and the lost of the character).

The ending completely through me off from what could have been a good game, my final score is 5/10 because of the atrocious ending that ruined it. Ultimately, the graphics were great, music and sound 2was fantastic, but the story had pacing issues and an absolutely terrible ending.

The second half is unbearable to play, you feel annoyed and unmotivated to finish the game. Felt like a forced recycled game so they could just present you some new characters that could potentially be in a sequel. I recommend to wait until there is a price drop or just rent the game out. Would be better if it had an option to skip the half of the game and just give you the ending. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler ALERT don't read in case you want to experience the game yourself! The last of us 2 can be reviewed in 2 sentences. Game mechanics are great, it was a lot of thinking taken and the details including how the rope will go around various materials require standing applause. The story is very simplistic, with core only human feelings, without getting to details until the very end. Making it boring, lack of motivation for completing goals and fully concentrating on "villain" that become sympathize character till the scene with slitting a throat of a pregnant woman. The story was so poorly written than it's hard to understand reasoning behind the producer decision. Last scene with Joel shows that Ellie want to forgive him for lying and want to rebuild the bond between them. This scene should be on the beginning of the game, so we could cry when he is tortured and then killed by Abby. Instead, we saw him killed with a background noise of Ellie treating she will kill them all.

We don't know what's going on, and we only can wait to get to snap her neck. Instead, we got a 2 days holiday travel around the Seattle. Most of the game is about Abby only, and revelation the reasoning for torturing her saviour Joel and then killing him. For those who played the part 1 know he did kill or fireflies to save Ellie from operation. Including Abby's dad "the doctor" that want to kill Ellie for better good. This was already a bad (not enough) reason to kill not mention torturing, spitting and cursing Joel. The only reason the game did sell well was a made-up propaganda about SJW influence in the game. When realistically this part of the story was really well written without forcing or changing player way of thinking. Our Liv or Lily was great character that didn't want to be a wife of old prick. He wants to be a hero a warrior. Easy and great example of many people that going thought that process. But for the story it was a valid and great twist.
Unfortunately, this wasn't a big thing as we were forced to like Abby who constantly was admitting that WLF is right, even when they killed kids or torture people. We should like her because she lost her dad. Entire game couldn't explain why she has friends and why they support her so much. On the end she was happy to kill Ellie and her girlfriend, even she realizes how stupid that is. Only Liv stopped by looking at her as looking on the monster. Rest of the game is not worth a mention as is boring, unrealistic and repetitive. The baby ending will be much better than fight in the water against half size Abby. The last of us 2 should be named differently and shouldn't be a part of the game. 6/10 when comes to outstanding graphics and mechanics. The rest is boring, repetitive enemies are easy and blunt. Cut scenes are too long and contain just normal conversations. You could tell that the team spent most of its time-wasting on videos and motion capture instead gameplay. Big applause for programmers and designers, I would personally pay off the producer who stood behind story like this, and create hostile advertising to create a big talk about how much propaganda will be in this game. When on the end was nothing critical or wrong doing apart the wholes in the story and boring narrative.

I always expected a dark turn since there needed to be bigger consequences for Joel's actions in part one.

i loved this game from start to finish. First of all, the game-play is extraordinary. The stealth mechanics blew my mind. I am glad they fixed the bow aiming system. The visuals are breathtaking and I couldn't stop using the photo mode to capture all my favorite moments.

The story took us deeper into this post apocalyptic world. i really wanted more exploration of this world that naughty dog had created in part 1. I am glad I got to see that. The story-line is definitely darker, more brutal and unpredictable. I am that this game took me on a different path. It made me question my decisions. Whatever steps I took I felt i was synced with the character I was playing because I understood where they were coming from.

In the end I will say, I was satisfied and in the need for more. It's an original story. It's not based on a book or anything. It was made from scratch. That eliminates the element of predictability. I can't wait for Part III. The story can be summed by one of the best dialogues in gaming history, "Revenge is a fools game" - Arthur Morgan.

The Gameplay Mechanics were great, Visuals were amazing and the Soundtrack was nice. That's pretty much the only positives I have.

The Pacing is slow, Story is quite poor, some of the characters deaths were poorly done and some characters are poorly written.

This game could've been a lot better even with the same story by doing a couple of things differently.

Did not enjoy playing as Abby, As soon as the characters switched from Ellie to Abby after the Cinema scene, The game got extremely boring. I really didn't care about her story or her friends. I also didn't find her or her friends story sad either, Especially Mel. That's actually one of the reasons I made the score a 5/10. It would've been a 6/10 if we played less as Abby.

I would've loved to have traveled with Tommy more or maybe travelled with him instead of Dina. I think that would've made the game much better.

The ending I would say wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I still would've preferred to kill Abby. That's what we spent the whole game doing.

That's about it, 5/10 for me. Wasn't a bad game, Wasn't good. I was actually enjoyiing playing as Ellie right until we had to play as Abby. After that, I had to force myself through it until the end. By the end, I couldn't really care much about the game anymore which is one of the reasons I said The ending I would say wasn't bad but it wasn't good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part II is a sad and heartbreaking masterpiece.

It is the melody of violence and rage, and a demonstration of how a traumatic event can change us forever and bring us down to the depths of revenge. Revenge is a disease.

Abby's storyline shows us how our actions have consequences and that our perspective can be greater. While playing Abby, you learn why she killed Joel, and then you mean that Ellie and Abby aren't so different, they both lost a beloved one.

    The side qualities :
    - The sound design is good as hell !
    - Graphics (of course)
    - A basic gameplay in the service of history that didn't need to be fleshed out.
    - the themes addressed without forcing and propaganda (lgbt, religions...) its all about tolerance !

    BUT :( :
    - Some plot hole.
    - Not enought Gustavo music moment.

For me, there are two words to define this game: perspective and maturity.

The end of this game reminds me of great jobs, such as: Breaking Bad and Mr Robot ... what do they have in common?
It is precisely because it is philosophical and reflective. It ends in a different way than most games, as the script is very different and mature from start to finish. It is not exactly new, but in this specific art (games) it is not common and, therefore, players are not used to this approach. At least for a while.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is simply a dumpster fire surrounded by toxicity and hypocrisy built by everyone involved. It is not only getting zero because of the game itself but the sheer desperate behaviour that these writers are going to defend this game and continuously contradict themselves with disgusting hypocritical arguments. On a side note I avoided the spoilers leaks like the plague so I went into this with a open mind. I also would like to say that The Last Of Us was my favorite game of all time before playing this game and it still remains an absolute masterpiece.

In the first chapter, the main talking point is Joel's death. Joel and Tommy are so out of character. They give these random strangers information on everything about them while they scarily outnumber them. This is very lazy writing and terrible excuse to allow Abby to kill Joel. Joel's death was not at all emotional either and this is because they killed him so quickly in the game. I didn't feel anything for one of my favorite characters of all time. It felt only shocking with no emotional reaction because there was no story pacing. It just felt soulless watching it.
We then haul through 3 full days as Ellie in Seattle. This chapter has you play a needlessly open-world section and at least 12 hours of Ellie murdering a bunch of people that helped Abby find Joel. Almost nothing happens for hours (as opposed to how engaging it was in the first game). You start to feel fed up playing the game because the story-pacing is so poor. The story is just not engaging enough. The museum mini-chapter has to be the best thing in the game by a mile. You get a beautiful interaction with Joel which really brings back the first game's feels. This is the only part of the game where you actually have a Joel/Ellie moment and it lasts just 20minutes...
We then have go through the same 3 days as Abby - a character we know nothing about, don't care about or feel the want to care about her. Abby's personality is so unlikable and emotionless. She's unbearably uninteresting and boring.. Not to mention how ridiculous she looks. We are just meant to assume she's in some sort of peak condition while everyone else looks in proportion. Throughout you will meet all the characters you killed as Ellie as they try to manipulate you into thinking these are good people. You learn that Joel killed her Dad which apparently justifies what she did. We now see how they love dogs and look after them (while Ellie viciously kills them). Abby is made out to be such a good person because she helps free a Zebra with her Dad. She also looks after two random kids in the last 2 days which feels way out of place. This entire chapter is so forced and is so incredibly transparent and despite the writer's desperate attempts, It does not make you like Abby unless you are easily emotionally manipulated. Then we are meant to assume Ellie is stupid enough to leave her map behind basically saying "I killed all your friends, come and get me" which leads to being forced to fight Ellie and beat the **** out of her. This entire chapter is some of the laziest written content I have ever experienced.
In the final chapter, Tommy is out of character again and contradicts himself to become an **** Ellie goes to the lengths of abandoning Dina which is also out of character. She goes all the way to Santa Barbara to save Abby only to spare her despite all the lives she's taken getting here. Not only that but Abby bit off her fingers taking away the only thing she had left of Joel - playing the guitar. It's really such poor writing filled with plot holes
The graphics, music, game play are all some of the best I've played but it all feels heavily let down when playing a story-based game with such a lazily written manipulative mess of a story. Overall I'd give the game a 4/10 because of this.

However, since release Druckmann and his team has been insinuating those who didn't like the game are too stupid to understand a below average story-telling or claimed the reviews are from bots. The fact that those who do like the game are calling those that don't 'misogynists, sexists and phobics' sums up the toxicity of this game. What Abby looks like is not normal in the slightest, never mind in the apocalypse when there's very limited resources. They made the excuse that they wanted to make a strong female lead. You don't need to give a women steroids to make them a strong lead. Meanwhile a story-line about Lev's trans-phobic mother is ludicrous in an apocalyptic world. It is NOT homophobic, trans-phobic or sexist to dislike this game. It's clear there is a political agenda and it's fine they want to do that but they are first-world problems, it just doesn't belong in this game. I want to talk more about this but the character limit prevents me. They ruined what the first game meant to people and what it was about. They butchered every character. They butchered the story and they butchered our love for the franchise.

The story of the game is very forced and bad. They simply endeavored to displease the players who waited seven years to follow the sequence. Unfortunately, innovations cannot save the bad story created for the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is phenomenal. This game had a tough act to follow, the first game was my favourite single player game ever. I was nervous if they could repeat the process but Naughty Dog did it again. The story is divisive, I loved it. I think a lot of people are struggling to let go of Joel and they are actually grieving for him. I loved his character but I also realised his flaws and also recognised he isn't the "hero" some make him out to be, I think this is pretty key to "getting" this game. If you decide to buy the game then my one piece of advice is keep an open mind and actually think about what's going on, read the notes, activate the optional conversations etc.

So the graphics themselves are what we come to expect from Naughty Dog, industry leading and this is on a 7 year old machine, truly incredible.

The acting for the characters is second to none, just watch the mannerisms of the characters especially in telling scenes. The dialogue is fantastic and fits with the what I think the characters would say and talk about.

Sound design was incredible from the visceral noises of attacks and the blood gurgling death throws of the enemies. The music was again epic as like the first game really setting mood and tone for the scenes.

Gameplay is an evolution of the first game, is far more fluid and fun switching from stealth to full action mode and back again easily. Variety in enemies was great and all feel like a true threat especially in numbers. Some of the new infected are pretty fun and scary in equal measure to fight.

The story itself is pretty simple, but it's told very effectively. There's a portion of the game initially can be quite flustering and your wanting to go back to what you were doing before but the story development during this section is needed to get the full effect by the end and for me after a couple of hours this realisation was starting to hit home. It's a very thought provoking game and ND took risks which in today's boring AAA titles I welcome wholeheartedly.

Seriously I was thinking about this game even after finishing it for weeks, currently on my second playthrough and love it. I certainly can't separate this from the first game and it's more of a continuation than a sequel so I guess both games are my favourite single player video game ever. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Don't buy into the bad reviews that just say the game was bad without giving context to why it was for them. Some people may not like the story. I know for a fact I did for the most part even though I was upset with some of the decisions they made. It had me emotional in some moments especially the ending had me on tears and I don't cry at a lot of things. The game really grasped me in it's story. The acting is the best I have ever seen in a video game, and maybe even in all media, I just can't get over how good it was, every moment felt real. The animations were top notch and the enemy AI was a lot more intelligent than in the first game and most games I've played. However there was a moment in the game where it didn't really feel like it took place in a The Last of us world type setting which I did not really like. And even if the story doesn't appeal to you the gameplay wise this game is phenomenal and still worth picking up in my opinion. I would also like to mention that I was upset with the false advertising. Nevertheless I still very much enjoyed the game and I am looking forward to Naughty Dog's next game.

What an amazing game. TLoU has to me always been about characters you love doing things you hate, and there's so much of that in this game. Just an amazingly compelling narrative.

Gameplay is the same as the first one but with many improvements and more freedom, it also feels less clunky to play. An almost perfect game all in all (just a bit smoother controls would have helped)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a game that comes once in a generation. Everything about it is top notch! whether you are talking about gameplay, level design, story, sound design, graphics, acting or music. Game is technical marvel. Easily best sound design, graphics and animations we have ever seen in any video game. Combat is **** brutal and satisfying. Game offers some of the best action sequences but it doesn't feel over the top, it's grounded and intense. Like every other Naughty Dog game, TLOU2 is filled with mind-blowing details. Everything is thoughtfully realized and done intentionally. There is no single moment in story which isn't necessary. Game is huge, environments are enormous and it takes 25-30 hours to complete, mainly it depends on how you approach the game. Story is so good! yeah, it takes huge narrative risks but it isn't for shock value like many people claim. Everything that happens is service to the story. Killing of Joel is such an amazing way to ignite a revenge story. Also, game is much more than "revenge is bad." It's about trauma, anguish, grief redemption and love! Finally, I want to talk about actors and one and only Gustavo Santaolalla. Acting is hands down the best we've seen in any video game. Not only main actors (Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey) but every other actor is on another level. It is indeed Oscar worthy performance. If Ashley Johnson doesn't win every award for her performance as Ellie than I don't know who should win... As I said Troy, Jeffrey Pierce, Laura and every other actor killed it and they deserve recognition too! Gustavo is a **** genius. All I can say about him is that if it's not Gustavo it's not The Last of Us.
Overall, TLOU2 is nothing short of masterpiece, it's so far ahead of any other video game.. Every aspect of it is unbelievably good. This game will be talked about for years to come.

Expand

It is not an easy journey, but this is what makes it so important, and so compelling. The controversy around this game should do nothing but highlight just how deeply this work of fiction has succeeded in confronting us, and provoking feelings very real. Both games should forever serve as *the* textbook examples on the potential that interactive medium has for narrative depth - though I doubt we will see anything quite like it for a long long time. But after finish it, spending almost 35 hours of my life, analyzing details and discussing with my friends about it and not thinking in everything else for a few days, my conclusion is that this game is a masterpiece.
Story is complex, not easy to follow, breaks and really unfair most of the time. I totally understand users that really don't like. It is painful from the beginning ( but remember the first hour of game of TLOU) and it broke my heart at the end. Important thing about this game is that this is not a story about Joel, or Ellie, I think that go really deep in human nature, instinct, irrational behaviour, sellfish purpuses and all of this taking into account the background of a distopic world.
For that reason they present a batch of stories of totally broken and traumatized people with their lights and their shadows but always depending on the point of view.
I never felt like this playing a game (and just a few movies), anger, disappointment, sadness, empathy for characters that I hated so bad at the beginning of the game.
Only for that, the game totally worth it for me. It was a risky choice by Naughty Dog and I think that they knew what they we're doing and what could happen.
This story and how it is told is not what we use to play and second part of the game was infuriating for me at the beginning but then you start to understand and feel different and regret of your thoughts and opinion.
They play with your mind and with the things you think you know, the real master of puppets.
Again, I totally understand people that don't like the game or waited a different story, for me it was a great experience.
So, thanks for being brave, for trying to make a different story, thanks for caring about every single detail, my conclusion thanks for what you make me feel, all the good and all the bad.
