I just finished the game and Im giving this review the amount of care Naughty Dog gave The Last Of Us franchise. Part 2 is not worth your time or money. They destroy everything great about the first game and that's is all you need to know. What a waste of 30 hours for me. This is like Game of Thrones 2.0. #joelandelliedidnothingwrong #ellieisnotthevillian

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was the story that carried the first game. The behaviour of Joel and Tommy from the start is just crazy and made no sense from their character traits in the first game. Even mixing a storyline of gender identity and transgenderism into the game was just sad, it only affects less than 1% of people in the world and yet they had to include a storyline about it! After all the sadness, death of friends Ellie finally has a peaceful life only to turn around and hunt Abbie down…. then lets her live? The game has no direction. The story should have been Joel finding Ellie after running away, then saving her by holding back the rat king in an epic battle. God i hope they don’t make the second season of the last of us anything like the second game because i simply will not watch. Expand

Part 1 was my favorite game of all time. I absolutely loved the characters and everything about it. Part 2 destroyed everything I loved about the first game. I hated playing this game, played it all the way through thinking it would get better but it never did. The story is almost as bad as the characters themselves. Gameplay gets boring, basically nothing changed from the first game… maybe a few new guns and that’s it. I think Naughty Dog wanted to go for shock value or something, but the plot points are obnoxiously forced. Worst of all you are forced to do terrible things as a well liked character and then they force you play as a terrible villain character with no character arc or any likeable qualities. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Such a fall from grace for Naughty Dog. Expand

It is also useful to look at it from this perspective.

Also, as proof of what I said, women who grew up under the pressure of men in a way that they could not display natural behavior behave masculine, popular culture and adolescents think that all women dress and act like women. There is really no difference in the game made for people, they understand that this game is really no different from what they see in life, human relations, etc. situations because the psychology of upbringing changes people, the environmental factor makes women this way, this environmental factor is the last point in the game, I have observed in my own life, grown up under pressure. women act like men, if anyone experiences and observes this, they will make a positive criticism anyway. In his opinion, an intelligent person who has created a game completely reflecting his thoughts will immediately notice this situation. Congratulations, the game is heavy, not for people who do not know the truth. There is a mindset that wants the game to be Apex.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a standalone game it is not bad but as a sequel to one of the best games of all time this is simply awful.

    There's a lot of plotholes:

So Joel murders almost everyone at the hospital yet they keep their identities?
There's even a note in game of someone who changes their identity to escape from a cult.

Ellie and Tommy living when Joel dies, I get the group discuss it but why was the possibility of people trying to save Joel not discussed before hand.
Also why did Abby's group decide to spare them, as if Joel's own brother wouldn't hunt you down until his dying days?

When they send people out to find Tommy, three teenagers can go even though Abby came down with about 10 people.

To play as Abby when it initially felt like the end was a good turn but dragging out all that time with a player you didn't care for and in fact hated was flawed (clearly designed to generate sympathy which given the reviews it didn't work, we should have played as Abby to start the game in order for us to build a rapport.)

The absolute off chance that Abby would bump into the 1 trans seraphite and then immediately form a bond with him that extends her story by umpteen hours.
I am a fan of the lgbt representation and the visible nature of the lesbian storyline for Ellie and Dina is a brilliantly shown relationship, that isn't grotesquely over sexualised like other women in games but that Abby bumps into the 1 Trans seraphite?

The feasibility of a 13 year old who spent their entire life on a remote island, raised by a murderous cult, cut off from whatever is left on the mainland knows and identifies as trans? There are many ways to have added logic to how Lev came to this decision, like perhaps an older seraphite who lived in the old world has come out as trans or Yara finds a book on LGBT, yet none were taken.

I just find it very hard that a 13 year old would run away from the safety of a cult, (even if it's a death cult), and try and live in a 'zombie' infested city, literal life and death.

You are supposed to care for Abby and Owen's relationship but it's never explained how it ended or how he ended up with Mel.

So Joel has survived over 2 decades in this world yet makes the mistake of admitting his real identity, and then Ellie also forgets the map? Why do they all forget basic survival techniques?

What is the point of the rattlers keeping Abby prisoner?
It's not explained if the firefly house was a ruse or if it was legit and what they even do with the prisoners (surely it's not hard to have a bit of slave labour or someone thrown to a chained clicker).
Then the ending is nonsensical, after 20-30 hours why on earth would we be happy with not killing Abby and finishing the main reason we are doing all of this?

Generally how can I headshot a brute and they don't die instantly? I get they're supposed to be these massive people with a sledgehammer but no human will take 2 point blank shotgun shells to the chest before they die, at least given them some armour.
Shamblers were a very nice enemy imo, especially where there were 2 at once.

Why can we carry only 2 clips of ammo per gun, no one will have 'FULL' pockets in an apocalypse.

Gameplay is what you would expect, sounds are great, tense atmosphere.
The media doesn't always have to have a happy ending, (look at avengers and everyone we lost over those 2 movies), but make it a logical one.

Even a simple ending of Lev begging Ellie to stop attacking Abby, and Ellie looks at him only to see herself in Lev and realise what she has become makes more sense than this.
I personally would have had Abby dodge a knife attack from Ellie which results in Ellie falling and stabbing Lev in the shoulder and Abby goes straight to tending the wound rather than retaliate against Ellie, at which point it dawns on Ellie everything she and Abby have lost on this journey and how Lev represents a breaking of that cycle.

Like I said at the start, as a standalone video game it is good but as part of a series it flat out is illogical and poorly written, and the revenge is bad story is overdone and sucks if there aren't enough stories which balance it out by showing that revenge doesn't fill that hole after it is taken. Too often the 'humanity' kicks in before the climax, as if we haven't murdered 100s to get to this point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the most incredible stories ever told in the medium. This game will break your heart, make you sick to your stomach, enrage you, but its all in service of a story that is unforgettably emphatic.

Here's my breakdown of the three groups of people that hate this game: idiots, bigots, and rational people.

Idiots: there are some people who can't comprehend the concept that the death of a beloved character can often serve the narrative more than their prolonged existence. Joel's death is meant to make you furious and depressed, and these idiots took that as an excuse to get mad at the developers, instead of the characters who did it. I like many people, felt the latter, which made for the perfect fuel for a revenge narrative. There are people who think Joel should have gone out in some blaze of glory, sacrificing himself for Ellie, probably quipping like some **** Marvel movie. These people missed the entire point of the series. There are no happy endings. No heroes send-off. Joel DID get a terrible death, which traumatizes Ellie even more, and the same is true for the player. The death they gave Joel was sickening, and that's the point. I cannot understand how so many people are so mad about this in such a dumb way. Yes be mad that someone died. Sometimes that happens, sometimes it seems unfair, sometimes it leaves you in anguish. That's what you're supposed to feel.

Bigots: Let's not pretend. A large portion of all the negative reviews, and most negative opinions of the game, are because of some supposed "woke agenda". Ellie calls a homophobe a bigot, and apparently that's "woke". So is two female characters. So is a lesbian couple raising a child. So is a child questioning their gender. These inclusions were done so naturally and inoffensively that you would have to be a bigot to be upset by them. People are mad that Abby is jacked, as if you wouldn't train to be a killer if you sought out revenge for your father. People are mad that there's a twist at the end of Abby's story that Lev is trans, as if there wouldn't be any nonbinary people in the apocalypse. I can understand if they really ham-fisted it in, and said some garbage about being trans and strong, or making some comments about girl power or how women are stronger than men or something. But they didn't. This very much was a game with very complex characters that just happened to be diverse. The diversity was hardly a focal point. Even Lev's journey is more about family, spirituality, and defiance, than about being trans.

Rational people: Now art is subjective, so obviously there are many reasons why people might like or dislike something. And there are plenty of people who didn't like this game that are justified. There are a few issues that even I have to acknowledge. Firstly, this is a very, very long game. Its pretty much 2 games in one. And a lot of people have commented on the pacing being an issue. While I found the story intensely captivating, and could hardly put down the controller when I first played it, there were still plenty of people who commented on the slow nature of some sections, especially Seattle Day 1 on Ellie's side. If a game with a long runtime that takes a while to conclude is not your cup of tea, you may not enjoy this game all the way through, but I loved it. I think the pacing of combat, exploration, and story was brilliant, and well organized. But yeah some sections are slow, and there's a lot of opening empty drawers for the sake of realism.
There are also people who dislike the constant jumping around, to different locations without much build up. While I liked the long journey of the first game, I think it would be kinda boring to do it again. Also some people don't like the combat, but i think its the best Naughty Dog has made yet. Its so satisfying and precise, and getting headshots is especially satisfying when there's so few bullets. As a more grounded shooter (not one with crazy sci-fi or fantasy elements) I think its the best of its kind. I'm sure there are plenty of other small details too, but I can't imagine them being such dealbreakers that they would ruin the game at all. Every game has flaws, but I think these are some of the major ones.

Lastly, I just wanna say, If you really did play to the end of the game, and still want Abby to die, then there's something wrong with you. By every objective metric, Abby is no more guilty or deserving of death than Ellie or Joel. Ellies revenge story is literally the same as Abby's. Joel killed her dad, and Abby killed Ellie's surrogate father. They are both justified, or neither of them are. And if you're problem is that Abby is a bad person, then so is Joel. He was a cold blooded murderer who stole and tortured and likely doomed the entire human race. Either they're both evil, or neither of them are. Abby is a bad person, but everyone in this world is.

This game is a masterpiece, stop whining.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the original last of us, honestly one of the best games. I’m just pretending Part 2 didn’t happen though.

If Joel had to die I just wish it was done in a different way. When I finished part 2 I felt that his death was cheap and I was forced to try to sympathise with Abby, when I hated every moment I had to play as her. So half the game was terrible.

Joel saved her life then she just killed him without warning, that’s psychopathic. Yes Joel killed her father, but he was trying to save Elly because he didn’t want to lose another daughter. And her father did pull a knife on him, so I felt that more justified than what Abby did.

Joel killed out of an act of love, and Abby killed out of an act of revenge. That’s why I will never sympathise with her.

Joel killed out of love because he didn’t want Elly to die, and there was clear warning beforehand. Abby killed out of hatred for Joel without warning. Joel didn’t even know who she was. Like Joel, her motivation was selfish as well, and worse she dragged her friends into it.

I hated every moment I had to play as Abby and was left disappointed by the games narrative choices, and it ultimately ruined the game for me.

"The Last of Us Part 2" is a visually stunning game that offers a variety of thrilling elements such as stealth gameplay and action sequences. However, the game's story is not always logical and there are several plotholes that can be frustrating for players. The game features several characters whose choices and actions are often illogical, and this contributes to the overall sense of the story being implausible.

One of the most criticized aspects of the game is the portrayal of the main villain Abby. At the beginning of the game, her actions are borderline psychopathic as she murders "a man" in front of "a young woman", who is practically his daughter, while she is literally begging for his life. The motivations and reasons behind her actions are no excuse for the murder as the wronging indirectly done by "the man" to her were in some ways a legal and ethical duty of "said man". Later in the game, the developers try to make players like her and agree with her by portraying her as a nice person. Additionally, players are forced to play as Abby for half the game, which can be difficult for players who find her character unsympathetic.

The game is heavily criticized for attempting to force the developer's ethical views and beliefs, concerning life and death situations in a post-apocalyptic world, onto the player through the character of Abby. The game tries to make players like and sympathize with Abby despite her unjustifiable actions, leading to a feeling of manipulation and lack of agency for the players.

The game's portrayal of sensitive themes and its treatment of certain characters has also been criticized for being insensitive and tone-deaf.

Overall, "The Last of Us Part 2" is a game that boasts impressive graphics and solid gameplay mechanics, but is let down by its illogical story, plotholes, and its portrayal of sensitive themes. The game's attempt to force the developer's ethical views onto the player through the character of Abby and the manipulation of players' emotions makes it hard for players to fully engage with the story and characters. While it offers some thrilling elements, it ultimately fails to live up to the high standards set by the first game in the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt this game had great potential to be a masterpiece. Coming off the last game, I was expecting a whole new story that will carry me through a story of great loss and remembrance. but instead we got something completely different. We got a story about how revenge can negatively impact the revenge taker. Which is where my problems with the game take shape. The people in my family that have played this game before and after me have also expressed how they felt that they didn't want to play as Abby in the game. They felt she was given too many good weapons, too many good scenes that could have been given to Ellie. But most importantly, they felt they should not be playing as the person who killed Joel, the player you play as in the majority of the previous game. They expressed how they should have been playing as Ellie the entire time and taking revenge against Abby. Not playing as Abby trying to hunt down Ellie. (There is even a scene in the theater in which you have to sneak around and try to attack Ellie, which felt weird as you would think it should have been the other way around. ) I have to agree with my family's input as it did feel weird to be playing as essentially the antagonist of the game for half the game. That's how the best scenes in the game are usually the ones with Ellie. (Such as the museum scene.) Story aside however, graphics in the game are stunning, with the usual Naughty Dog flare. Game-play was OK as they didn't really innovate from the previous game (with the exception of the dodge and prune mechanic). But I have to say that the enemy AI is really good in the game as they will try and flank you any chance they got. But altogether, if they want to improve next time, they shouldn't put in a new character that nobody knows, who kills the main protagonist of the last game, and expect people to play as that character for half the game.
