This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing game with the WORST CONCLUSION EVER MADE IN FICTION. Everyone crying about Joel dying in the first 2 hours should honestly stop crying and start looking at the big picture lol. Joel had it coming since he killed a literal whole army just for 1 little girl. No matter how much we all like him, he was in the wrong and his actions had consequences. It also gave Ellie a pretty good revenge story for us to follow (which just gets thrown away in the end like nothing). I also didn't mind the fact that we had around 8 hours of Abby gameplay. I was absolutely determined to scatter that woman in pieces, but playing her and seeing her and Lev's side of the story was actually still really enjoyable and intresting, untill she absolutely annihilated Ellie and her friends which made absolutely no sense to me since she had every single advantage over Abby except raw strenght. Also why did we had to still specifically had to play that part?? That neither made any sense whatsovever. The last 10 minutes of the game were probably the worst 10 minutes out of any game i've ever played. Ellie was 3 seconds away from finally achieving the goal she's been thriving for for a whole year, and because of some dumb 1 millisecond flashback, she just lets her go???? How does that make any sense?? why did she even leave the farm in the first place then?? Why did she even leave JACKSON in the first place??? Its like the flashback told her that Joel wouldn't want her to do this or sum, when that would be the literal opposite. I enjoyed watching everyone die like the **** they were ( especially that stupid mexican who spit on Joel) but how are you going to kill and torture hundreds of people and let the ONLY person you were after go after she killed almost everyone you cared about and annihilated you TWICE? Nothing, and absolutely nothing made sense in the last 2 chapters. I could probably point out a lot more about it, but im not going to.

The positives of this game are the absolutely stunning graphics (def the best graphics ive ever seen for a game), the story itself, the main protagonist and main antagonist and the fun and improved gameplay. This game was better than TLOU in every single aspect except ending. I've never raged so much in a game while still enjoying it the best way i could. I also liked how the game just liked to toy with your feelings with killing Joel in the beginning and throwing those flashbacks at us. It just made you feel so much in the moment and makes you feel like you're an actual character experiencing whatever feelings Ellie is experiencing, no other game has ever done that in my opinion. It also just strengthed our motive to kill Abby and her friends .Overall i would still say that this game is an absolute masterpiece and still one of the best games ive ever played regarding the ending

The reason why TLOU2 was a shot on the foot from a studio that is masterclass on storytelling:

    - The Last of Us Part 1: We don't even know Joel, but we know that he is a worker on a normal world. World that goes kaboom and the first random persons appearing on the game (a couple with a kid) Joel said "don't stop" to Tommy. From here you started to build a character that don't trust no
The reason why TLOU2 was a shot on the foot from a studio that is masterclass on storytelling:

    - The Last of Us Part 1: We don't even know Joel, but we know that he is a worker on a normal world. World that goes kaboom and the first random persons appearing on the game (a couple with a kid) Joel said "don't stop" to Tommy. From here you started to build a character that don't trust no one and this isn't even in the apocalyptic world we will see.
In another scene Joel sees a man asking for help and he immediately knew it was an ambush.
Joel kills numerous people in Part 1, so he knows that is ass is asking for revenge of someone.
    Joel uses fake names.

    - So Part 2: In middle of the game Abby said she got a lead, suggesting that they don't know where they are, and in any part of the game is showed they know how Joel or Tommy looked like.
But Abby and the group found the town, Joel saves Abby. In the middle of a runaway Tommy had time to make introductions and said their real names. This don't make any sense, Tommy learned from the years in this world to don't do that, he was a firefly, and killed people too, and knew that Joel killed many people.
They go to Abby's hideout and things start to be very bad in terms of contradict character build:
1 - Everyone or many of the Abby's group are with guns in hand, Joel and Tommy leaved theirs on horses.
2 - Joel stands in the middle of all group, a guy that don't trusted a couple with a kid, killed hundreds of people and know how ambushes work.
3 - Tommy again slipped is name, but don't says Joel's name.
4 - If this, for you, is not a shot in the foot of ND, or is a spit on one of the best characters in industry of gaming this is:
5 - Joel standing without a gun, surround by a group he don't know, helpless if something happened said his real name "Joel".

ND, or should I say, Neil Druckman don't give a **** about Joel's character, if this don't prove to you that, this should:

He makes you play half of the game, or even more with the person who killed Joel. But if this is even not enough for you, put it in this perspective: Imagining play half of the game with any daughter, mother, wife, of some random npc or character Joel killed.

Believe when I say that TLOU Part 3, if it comes out, will be a failure. Because now ND and Neil Druckman can't put Abby's character on the trash can, so or you will have to play with her again or they don't bring her in the third game and that will be another shot on the foot because you literally made a game around her and now you toss her out so people will question "why do you did that in Part 2 and know Abby isn't even here?"

I'm not saying that Joel didn't deserved to die or that I wouldn't accept that he dies. But you do it without breaking is character core and definitely don't force fans to have to play half of the game with his killer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We were told that the first TLOU is a "simple story, complex characters". Well the second one is a "simplest story, simplest characters". Sorry that we appear to be not THAT simple.
Straightforward plot. Straightforward message that is aggressively repeated from one cut-scene to another. I was missing a person jumping out in the corner of the screen with the sign “Revenge is bad!” if someone had still not realized it. C'mon we are not stupid i even felt offended since the game communicated with me as if i really am: D

the characters ... main and minor. so flat, shallow, sketchy. It's so difficult to sympathize with them (at the same time in the first part they were so natural and lively that it was difficult NOT to sympathize). The decisions they make, motivation in various situations, dialogs - everything looks forced, overact and false.

Perhaps it is a good plot move to kill Joel since it could have opened so many confrontations within the heroes but the game just flushes him down like a trash and this looks like disrespect to studio’s previous work. So many ideas could have been discussed with Joel got killed - regret, priorities, overcoming the desire for revenge, the path to forgiveness, understanding and acceptance. Yes, it's trivially but it meant to be a simple story and complex characters. Speaking about Abby, has she got the relief after killing Joel? Does she feel any regret or fault killing comrades? How does she feel growing in a military society and at the same time being a sweet daughter of a rather gentle farther? Maybe she has become obsessed with revenge because her love (i don't even remember his name), that could have become her support and life meaning, makes another girl pregnant? Even disliked by almost everyone Abby could have been a complex and interesting to watch character. I don't even speak about Ellie! But despite of showing these dramatic and emotional drivers we are shown rather a long intimate scene between girls that means absolutely nothing for a story-line. Yeah, priorities in 2020. Even this touchy topic could have been woven elegantly in terms of a conflict between Ellie and homophobic people where Joel was the dearest person who understood and protected her in this situation and now he is dead and she faces it all alone and feels how important Joel's support was for her and how she really in need of being protected and encouraged even being so strong and independent BECOUSE it is a child-parent relationship that was so thoroughly built in TLOU 1! Gosh, so many ways to develop the characters!!!!!!11 And yes, Joel tries hard to drag out the story in the beginning and in each and every flashback…the only alive and natural but dead character ahaha.

I feel so sorry for people who put their soul in making the technical part of the game since it's brilliant. But thanks to scenario a lot of people have come to hate this game :(

P.S. critics are useless. Such a pity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with the fact that I did not consider it necessary to announce The Last of Us Part 2, because the first game was a finished product. And when they announced the sequel, I was more indignant than happy, why? For what? unclear. But I flattered myself with hopes that there would be a conflict in the sequel, thanks to which Joel and Ellie would finally get closer and strengthen their relationship with each other, but "My expectations are My problems."
1 - Plot: If I start to paint the entire plot of this "Game", then according to my review it will be possible to write a thesis, so I will simply say that it is secondary and mediocre, does not chicken out and does not make you think about it, because I have already seen it all, in one form or another, "Revenge is bad", "On the path of revenge you dig two graves" "We must forgive" BLA - BLA-BLA. This is one of the most mediocre plots I've ever seen, REVENGE PLOT?! **** SERIOUSLY?! One gets the impression that Neil Druckman was inspired by the Killer's Creed series, and moreover, he cut off not one, but TWO FINGERS of Ellie! Brilliant! I can only highlight flashbacks with Joel, where you understand what a cool man this ****ing world has lost, I wanted to take revenge, even after the "brilliant" scenario moves, but the Genius didn't give me that.

2 - Characters: well, there's really nothing to say here, a crowd of absolutely flat, not anti-charismatic crutches who do not want to worry (Because they are not disclosed in any way), they are needed for one purpose, namely: "Ellie needs to kill someone." And to call pity on especially impressionable players. A few words about the star of this circus - Abby, this character caused dissonance with her appearance, fell like "Five crowns in **** well .. What can I say, Joel was exchanged too cheaply, her motivation as a character begins and ends at the beginning, when it's a script genius's mistake that smashed the head with a golf club to one of the most charismatic and recognizable characters in the gaming industry. Her personality still remains a mystery to me, I don’t understand what she is, she is absolutely not disclosed, the scenes “have pity on me” caused nothing but laughter and despondency (I was especially amused when this fool let Ellie go a second time ).

3 - Gameplay: A standard third-person shooter, only with dismemberment and stealth elements, I can’t say anything special about it, except for a moment of "calm" in large, but absolutely unnecessary locations, where, apart from collecting all sorts of **** for crafting, you need to decide "brilliant" riddles with ****ing boxes - Stuffy... Very stuffy. And all this is diluted with the most boring dialogues. The only thing I can praise the game for is the visuals, the developers squeezed everything out of the old PS 4 woman, the game looks gorgeous, and the staging. All. It’s a pity for the time and money spent, I completed the walkthrough simply because of the money that I paid for the game, maybe for people who play one game a year, this product will become a kind of revelation, but not for me. An average product, if the plot developed in the universe of this game, without touching the characters of the first part, then it would be less. But no, it's still **** because even as an independent product the game is average. I'm sorry that my expectations were not met (...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've waited 2,5 years to write this review. I still cannot forgive the writers for what they did.
They've absolutely destroyed the story of the game. I know TLOU1 had some story alterations before it was finally released, but at least that story made sense as a whole.

TLOU2's story doesn't make any sense. None whatsoever. Everything feels forced and has an agenda.

    Just a quick overview (spoilers):
    - Start the game where the previous one left off. Remember everything you've gone through to get here.
    - Immediately erase all of it. Joel walks into the most obvious trap ever and gets brutally murdered. Ellie has to watch him die.
    - Play a bit as Ellie and Dina, which all feels pointless, but at least we get to see the technical side of the game...
    - Play as Abby for HOURS, while we just want to walk her off a cliff. The writers know very well we don't care about her, but they think that forcefully playing as her for hours will change that. It won't.
    - Then there's not one but two confrontations between Ellie and Abby, and I remember shutting down my PS4 multiple times, trying to gather the courage to finish this section of the game.

Naughty Dog have created the smoothest and best looking game of the PS4 generation, and yet I feel completely disconnected while playing it. Maybe the writers will say: not every story is meant to have a good ending, you don't have to like it to enjoy the game. I agree. But I wasn't looking for a likable story. I was looking for an involving one that made sense, and that didn't force me to do things that make absolutely no sense every five minutes.

It just makes me think that Naughty Dog had no clou how good the story of TLOU1 was, maybe it just ended up like that by chance. Or maybe they were actually good story writers but got completely carried away in TLOU2. Either way, I wished I've never played TLOU2. I haven't touched the game in 2,5 years and I probably never will again. For anyone who ever played TLOU1 but not yet TLOU2: keep it that way.

I was initially the same, "the story is ruined", "no not joel!" but you HAVE to play through it all to "get it" my only gripe is the clunky narrative, bad pacing and finally...the ending.

There was really no need for the last fight. You actually end up saving Abby. Should have left it there. Looking back, it would have made much more sense to have Ellie actually save Abby, even on a kind of "If anyone is going to kill you it's me!" and expand the beautiful California maps and have a whole section where Ellie truly saves her (you can kill Lev, don't care about him he can have died on the beach for more "Abby" player sentiment) but to have taken her back to her boat to recover, then protect her would have been far better a compelling story, and have them even work together to survive. And maybe...just maybe have Abby find remorse (not for killing Joel) for the way she killed him. Then have them go their separate ways.

Also no need for the damage to the hand ;) it came over as a really nasty cheap gimmick. Again Drukmann drops the ball, as she already lost everything. Or at the least make the fight (there really didn't need to be one, Abby let Ellie go on 2 separate occasions) an option you can choose, and if you choose to fight Abby you CAN kill her. But I think we might be seeing more of Abby and Lev.

Hope there's a Part III and I hope they bring back Abby. I actually loved her character (would have liked ND to have fleshed her out a bit more) so Neils magic certainly worked on me...somewhat, great job all round, story needed to be better, more fleshed out characters because I really didn't care about any of them tbh. But even with it's jumbled narrative and cheap gimmick shock (come on Neil you can be better than that) the absence of Bruce Straley is really felt.

I gave the game a fair 5: Only because the story was lacking and the ugly ending I thought was unnecessary. Having Ellie playing that song, with her hand intact and THEN leaving the guitar and walking away would have been for a much better ending.

Like I said, Neil Druckmann is a beautiful genius...almost.

edited: raised the score to 8
2 points off for 2 fingers unnecessarily bitten off seems fair.

I am quite skeptical of players who give this game a high score because they may have a severe people-pleasing personality. They cannot feel the malice behind the writing, readily accepting the negative emotions it brings and therefore believing that the game is a "masterpiece that inspires deep human emotions." They should really consider seeing a therapist.

P.S. the poor quality of the game has nothing to do with political correctness. It fails to move people because the storyline is not well crafted. A tragic and dark story of love, hate and forgiveness, The Last of Us Part II is a very brave and ambitious game, and the perfect example of what videogames should strive to be.

I'm not a fan of heavy-handed social messages in games, and feared the worst when I started. I can remember only one scene toward the beginning that had me rolling my eyes; the rest of the time it felt like honest struggles of real, flawed, nuanced characters. This is not stuffed with "woke garbage" as some would have you believe.

Let's get the bad out of the way first: the story drags on an hour or two longer than it needed to, and sometimes it felt like my deaths were a result of sluggish controls. I could feel the game making an effort to make each scenario different and interesting, but there are a few instances where it feels repetitive. The steady addition of weapons and tools feels a little too slow at times; some of the encounters could probably have been cut and that would speed up both the plot and the power progression nicely. I'd say the pacing is mostly good, but not perfect.

But now we get to the good, and it's a bit overwhelming. This game's storytelling chops are in an entirely different league than most games; and yeah, the direction it goes is very different than I was hoping and expecting. I agree that the plot could have been better, but we need to judge games by what they are, not by how we would have written them. What's here is executed masterfully, and truly challenges the motivations of YOU, the player. It makes you ask what drives you personally, and what you think about hate, love, revenge, violence, and forgiveness.

The story is what we are here for, but the gameplay is no slouch. While not on the same level as many 3rd-person action games, it's competent on the surface and surprisingly deep when you start to get creative. The weapon sandbox interacts very nicely with your tools and the environment, allowing for creative plays if you've got the guts and the resources. Gameplay is nothing special to note overall, but it also generally does not detract from the overall experience.

We all imagined a Part 2 that followed a similar format to the first game, but Naughty Dog wanted to do something different. I still wish we could get that game we imagined, but I'm also happy that this game exists as it is. Well done and bravo to the developers for branching out and trying something infinitely harder. I dare not guess where Part 3 will take us, but I'm excited for the ride.

хе-хе! даже не надейтесь, что я куплю вашу вшивую игру, после такого отношения! Ни на PC, ни на PS5! Naughty Dog, вы бездари!

Well I suppose it would be tough to beat the best game ever but if the 1st one didn’t exist then this could have potentially been a 5/5… but the first one does exist … and the part 2 was just missing that lil sumn sumn

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought for what this game offered; you get a good experience. The gameplay was great (much as it was in the TLOU Remastered), and there were some fairly new additions to the game such as guard dogs and archers that made both fighting and stealth a bit more difficult. Similarly, while mostly an unnoticeable change to most of the community, I really enjoyed the HUD changes to the game and the new animations when picking up collectibles and interacting with the workbenches.

Next up in my review is the important aspect... the story. For my experience, I must say that the story definitely had its ups and downs. There were some aspects of the story that I did greatly enjoy such as untangling Abby and Owen's relationship, and walking through Ellie's journey through avenging Joel and her internal conflict on seeking vengeance as a whole; however, I definitely found a decent amount of cons with the story as I personally found it frustrating to see Abby get saved out of so many near-death experiences that would pretty obviously have killed pretty much any other person (aside from Ellie). Her encounter with the Rat King, defying Isaac/WLF, and escaping being captured and hung by the Seraphites are all examples of scenarios where realistically anyone else would meet their end, yet Abby somehow prevails each time. Additionally, while on the subject of Abby, I must also say that I couldn't really enjoy the experience of playing as her. I know her encounters with Lev and Yara are meant to give her a more empathetic side, yet I simply found it impossible to have any care or feeling whatsoever to the character, making it even more difficult to have to play as her in the theatre fight against Ellie.

Overall, I can say that I had a fun time playing this game and recommend those who have played the first part that may be hesitant to try this installment to give it a go.

Personally the most addictive game series I have ever played. Above all, the part 2 story touched me on several emotional levels that no other game has succeeded with... Definitely 10/10!

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
