How can you destroy a beautiful story? Simply adding a little bit of political correct everywhere!
This game is only a basket full of homosexual and trans themes and for THIS it won the goty.
The story is embarrassing, the gameplay is the same only the graphic is good but a game can't win a goty only for it! If you want to play a 10/10 game just buy the 1st the last of us and forget

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics are amazing, music (when it's there) is terrific, gameplay is great; but the story is soooo generic and uninteresting. And it has nothing to do with what most vocal people say about the SJW themes or characters, is just that the "boldness" they were trying to bring was straight up bad. Gameplay and story aren't connected, you spend the entire game killing, and only in the "key moments" do Ellie or Abby feel "regret" or pain. The game does not give the player a "choice" to kill or spare (knock out) an enemy; like in Death Stranding, where you CAN kill enemies but it has a penalty, so you try to avoid it. In THLOU2 you just kill and nothing bad happens. And at a point Abby even kills her own comrades, they say her name when she holds them, meaning they know her and she has a relationship with them, but she doesn't feel bad about killing any of them? Only at that key moment she feels "bad". Both Ellie feels bad for killing a pregnant woman, and Abby draws the "same line", but then what about all the other women they've killed? Any of them could've been with child, and neither would have known, but both killed them without remorse. And I kinda can get behind the decision to kill Joel. But to do so liked that, was weak and rushed. Also Ellie was a character that didn't wanted to have to face loss again and again, and she treasured good things in that horrible world, and she can get mad at Joel for his confession, but still she wouldn't have done what she did, lose everything just to win, I don't buy that. There's no character development for the characters that we love, there "some" character development for the new ones but it is so lazy and bare boned. Some side characters die so suddenly, that as a player you don't care, showing that nothing would've changed if they weren't in the game. The sex scene had no point to being there, it had no consequence, or cause. It's a shame what they decided to do woth the story, and the characters we loved from THLOU. The game has good things, but they are dragged down due to that poor story and lousy writting. Expand

I know some people are butt hurt because they don't enjoy watching some of their favorite characters die, but I have to admit I enjoyed this story very much. If you're just starting this game and disliked some of the events that took place earlier on, I encourage you to keep playing and see the whole game to completion before you knock on it. What shines the most to me is that they did a fantastic job telling a great story from two main characters perspectives, making you love and hate both characters respectively. Expand

The game itself is an absolutely fine linear Action Adventure. The writing feels forced at times, but the atmosphere, acting and polished game-play makes this a worthwhile experience - at least if you're not a homophobic person who bursts out with rage if fictional characters are handled differently than you want them to.

Very apparent he had nothing to do with TLOU1 as that game is a master piece. The game doesn’t innovate at all you’re better off just playing TLOU remastered and do yourself a favor, if you liked the game DO NOT play part 2. It’s a boring story with identical gameplay. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros:
    - Presentation and music were stellar
    - I liked Abby more than I thought, I will go so far and say she is a good character. I can’t blame her for being pissed at Joel. She also was kind and funny.
    - Gameplay is the best naughty dog has made. Not a big evolution, but I think they’ve reached the pinnacle of this type of gameplay
    - the Ellie segments when she was alone were well done in terms of mystery, tone, pacing, and story
    - Rat king fight was great
    - The segment when Ellie first gets to Seattle and it’s open exploration. That was **** cool.
    - the final resort area with Ellie I had had a lot of fun with actually

    Cons:
    - The supporting cast was awful. The scar siblings were so boring and I honestly hated their entire storyline. Dina and Jesse just couldn’t match the banter Ellie and Joel had in the first game. They were not that developed, thus I didn’t really care for them. Abby’s friends suffered a similar fate of just being underdeveloped. I didn’t really care for them at all.
    - Abby’s storyline just felt like a lot of padding. Abby was a good character imo and I understood her motivations, but it just felt we were dancing around the bush in her storyline just waiting for Ellie to show up. The scar siblings storyline took up the majority of her story and it was just an average rescue story involving characters I thought were bad
    - Revenge being the theme of the story. It was fine, but I didn’t find it mind blowing or anything like that. It really lets you know revenge is bad at every corner for better or worse. After I got over the initial shock of playing Abby, I didn’t think the change up in the story was that impactful. It felt like two games in one. IT SHOULD BE STATED I was spoiled so bad so maybe that initial impact was ruined for me. Honestly it might have been a good thing because I might have dropped it if I played it blind. I was able to accept that I was going to play Abby for so long before playing that I accepted her quicker than I probably would have. So the story and it’s themes were decent, but not groundbreaking like the first game where it developed the bond between Joel and Ellie so well and it showed what people will do for love. That’s hard to top man.
    - Final con is what I alluded to before: the chemistry between the characters is just ok. The dialog and banter between Joel and Ellie was so strong, so coming into this game I actually preferred it when the lead characters were alone because I just thought the dynamic between the other characters were weak.

In terms of the structure of the game, it’s hard to say how it would be improved. I think I would have preferred if we had a journey with Abby from the start to kill Joel. We find him and kill him and then we switch to Ellie before and then go on a journey to kill Abby. That way I would have cared maybe a bit more about Abby's friends and all that. But I understand they wanted to make it dramatic when the switch happened so idk.

Overall, I’d say it was a good game, but not a great game. I’d give it a solid 7/10. I enjoyed my time with it and don’t regret playing, but there was a lot a lot of things that were disappointing and flawed.

The Last of Us Part II takes the gameplay foundation laid by the first game and expands on it, but not always in positive ways. The cycling of human and infected enemies still keeps the experience pleasantly variegated, and to each group new classes have been added. These additions aren't unique enough to meaningfully shake up the experience, but the new ways in which we can approach them definitely do: dodging and counterattacking are rewarding new mechanics that make melee offense a much more worthwhile option, layering combat significantly, just like hiding in the tall grass, underneath vehicles and underwater amplifies the strategic options for stealth. Alas, these improvements, and combat as a whole, is severely undermined by the overwhelming size of areas. Levels are much bigger than they were in the first game, and although this might seem like a clear improvement, it becomes apparent after a while that their bigger size often makes the experience significantly worse than before. Areas are now so big that it often becomes extremely, embarassingly easy to alert the enemy only to then run away far enough to make their AI lose your tracks. By repeating this, the player can easily trivialize a significant chunk of the game, only because areas are so big that they allow you to. Nonetheless, many areas are contained enough to prevent this, and the human AI is notably improved since the first game. Plus, exploration is always rewarding thanks to the hunt for materials, greatly immersive, and environmental puzzles are now decently creative, if still repetitive. The characters of The Last of Us Part II retain the same level of believability and psychological depth that made the first game special, but the story itself lacks the same spark, being thematically repetitive as it is entirely devoted to a moral lesson that is extremely overused in media.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us Part II isn't really concerned with the idea of combat, though its admittedly great-lasered-down gameplay would make you believe otherwise. It mostly decides to wrestle against a multitude of heavy, capital-I Important topics instead, drowning its already submerged dead weight of self-seriousness with one of the bleakest, most uncompromising plot structures I've seen for a blockbuster PS4 game. Mostly, I found it hard to watch, with the inherent revenge thread being one-upped by frequent pulpy lashings of blood among the many encounters along the way in an ill-fated attempt at discouraging revenge, but I also was slapped senseless by the silliness of it all, and whether this even works as effective allegory.

it's a shame to watch as all of the ambition and technical beauty on display here goes wildly underserved by its moral simplicity. Why is this as thorny as your typical Oscar drama? Remember at the end of the previous game when Joel set a dangerous precedent by lying to his surrogate daughter Ellie to her face? Where's that? Well, mostly sideline in favor of the least interesting plotline. There are only so many slow, agonizing Important, dramatic moments about family, revenge, and death you can take before they all start to blur, and unfortunately, this has very little to offer beyond them. So unbelievably gorgeous tho.

Brilliant animations, AI, voice acting, graphics, and gameplay. Unfortunately overshadowed and laid to waste by an awful story. They demonize the beloved characters from the first game and attempt to make you feel empathy for the new character who makes unarguably worse moral decisions. Such a waste of potential for the franchise.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
