Then imagine finding out years later that there will be a sequel to a game that you already love. You go out to buy the new sequel, The Last of Us Part 2, getting home and start playing the game. Then imagine being faced with nothing but disappointment. You find out that the developer has been lying about the content of the sequel and has been false advertising about the story about Joel. Now imagine one of the main characters that you love , Joel gets killed in a way to show killing the patriarchy. Yes, they kill Joel with a golf club to symbolize him being killed by a male reproductive external organ. What's worse, in the game you are forced to do horrid unethical things but you don't get a choice. You have to do it in order to progress in the game then the game nags you about what a horrid person you are after wards. The cherry on the top, you have to play as Joel's killer. It was bad enough that he was killed, but then you have to play as his murderer. The game has great graphics and the game mechanics I find sub par, but the story and lack character development has led me to have nothing but disdain for this game. I would only buy this game as a gift to people that I dislike. If you love the first The Last of Us, then don't buy/play this game. Expand

A 4th grader could write a better revenge story. You have to play 10 hours as Abby :))) If I am Joel in a brutal world I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to F*** kill whoever gets in my way and wants to hurt my loved ones. Putting all SJW stuff off to the side the game itself is bad and is a disgrace to the first game. I had early access and I finished the game and oh boy was it bad. 3/10 just because of graphics, music and voice acting.

I absolutely loved the first game, easily one of my favourite games ever, alongside God of War and Witcher 3. I wish Last of Us 2 never existed and the franchise was never complete, because I will never want to recommend the first game to anyone because I know they will want to play the second and also have it ruined. story trash. Conbat and gameplay overall is good. Not enough ways to do a mission like other games give you. Just two thing kill or wait forever to let people go by. No set up for traps or other ways to kill enemy or anything

This game is a downgrade from it is prequel:
The story really went down and it is really disappointing and derived from it's core.

As much as I want to enjoy the game, it's only redeeming qualities are the graphics and some music. The rest of the game is straight trash, especially the story being the worst I have ever seen in any medium. Do not buy it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, first of all:
The first game is a masterpiece, phenomenal graphics for its time coupled with a meaningful and emotional plot. The gameplay was good, not great, though. Anyway, it was expected for anyone to go into the second game with high expectations.
Well, then the leaks came, and those who saw it realized that everything the first game built was basically thrown into the thrash.

Here's a summary if you decided to avoid the leaks and warnings:
The main character, Joel, is killed two hours into the game in the most imbecile way possible. After that, you are FORCED to play as the character who killed him and the game even makes you try and sympathize with him/her. I honestly don't know what "gender to assume" for this character here, and an awkward and unnecessary sex scene only worsen things. If this character was conceived as a trans person, then it was one of the most disrespectful representations I've seen. By the way, TLoU II is full of misrepresented people. Not going into details here, but you can check the videos, it is outright disgusting and made for pure shock value. That’s just not how you do it, not how you do it at all.
Now, the game is told like a revenge story of sorts, but never works. Joel and his brother are killed in front of Ellie, who forgets about it for a time (CORRECTION: Only Joel was killed, Tommy comes back later. The guy took a shotgun shot to the head and still managed to survive, go figure). Then, a long time later, Ellie is visited by Tommy and decides to abandon everything she had (even girlfriend and her kid) to finally get revenge for Joel's death. Also, according to flashbacks in the game, it is hard to believe how Ellie still cares about Joel, who is mistreated by her several times, so that was maybe remorse instead of revenge? Idk.
Anyway, back to this joke of story, Ellie finds Joel’s killer, Abby, and after a brutal fight decides not to kill her/him. Yeah, that's it, she just tells Abby to go home.
The game ends with Ellie alone, struggling to play a guitar because she got her fingers bitten and removed during the last fight.

    What a mess.

Finally, let’s set the record straight, the graphics are awesome and the voice acting is top notch, gameplay stays basically the same, so still somewhat good, if sometimes a bit clunky.
But don’t be fooled, we can’t just paint a turd gold and expect people to love it. If anything all this eye-candy only makes everything even more sad, like a big missed opportunity to build a game that respects Joel/Ellie journey and relationship.
Shame for Sony, shame for Naughty Dog and shame for everyone actively involved in making the game like it turned out.

I gave this game 2/10 because two are the fingers Ellie lost. So, if I was not just trying to be funny, my rate would be a very round zero.
In short, I don't know who you are or where you are from, if you liked the first game or not, but I can tell you this: Stay away from The Last of Us Part II!

Boring, repitive, linear. The characterisation is foreced and story is not engaging. Gameplay is the same as part 1 with some nuances. Everyone just seems angry. You can hear the conversation at the first production meeting. "Same again only more woke so we win the awards" It gets a 1 because its pretty and another 1 beacuse the mechanics are fun for a while at the start.

I mostly play video games to escape the nonsense of daily life. Free from politics & drama & social agendas that are constantly being thrown @ us by virtue signalling hypocrites.
Sadly this has now migrated into video games. Graphics are great, gameplay very similar to the 1dt one.. But ffs, keep the agendas & propoganda out of games. For this reason I shut the game off and gave it away

First off, I’d like to clear the air:

    1. It is - at the end of the day - just a game. A fictional story with fictional people, who are fighting dam zombies for God’s sake. No one should seriously consider this as a substitute for legitimate social commentary and/or academic work. I am confident most human beings who play this game will not finish it - merely chuckle, call it too
First off, I’d like to clear the air:

    1. It is - at the end of the day - just a game. A fictional story with fictional people, who are fighting dam zombies for God’s sake. No one should seriously consider this as a substitute for legitimate social commentary and/or academic work. I am confident most human beings who play this game will not finish it - merely chuckle, call it too depressing/sad/unrealistic/insert adjective - and move on with their life. The game will NOT move the the field forward, and will be forgotten QUICKLY. Inspiration does not equal reality. Thus no one - devs or fans - should get anymore riled up. Keep the peace. The devs are mostly decent people, as are most fans. The following review is of course negative, but I have taken care to ensure my criticism is as impersonal as possible.

    2. Its “divisiveness” seems to be mostly a lie, or at least exaggerated. The creators clearly did damage control by saying the game was created this way - when in reality, its problems just came to surface.

    3. The game itself is not too bad - perhaps a middling shootfest at best - but the major problems are the thematic components. The often quoted cycle of revenge leading to hard won forgiveness isn’t explored accurate to reality, but doesn’t want to be melodramatic either - leading one to question whether two different perspectives made this game. Either way, it’s overwhelmingly inaccurate, yet ineffectively melodramatic storyline fails on both execution strategies.

However, the real reason I am penalizing it harshly is because it reinforces a cycle of nihilistic pessimism found in today’s media. To even state this game is trying to “discuss” or “bring up” issues is a clear misrepresentation of the truth - it has a certain perspective on life that it poorly defends. As anyone who works in social work knows (I have, for multiple years) - this is about the worst thing to put out to the public. Thus, in the interest of protecting the mentally fragile - I strongly advise this game to be censored, significant sequences to be cut, or scrapped altogether. I repeat - MEDIA THAT MIGHT CAUSE MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS IN PEOPLE DUE TO ITS POOR UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIAL ISSUES is not worthy of being sold. Those at-risk people will not see the game for what it is - an Americanized, ego-centric, woefully inaccurate glamorizing of grief - they might actually associate some parts to their worldview. This is categorically unethical.

I apologize if the review seems harsh, but you can’t just make games carelessly - some thought has to be put into your audience. Artistry requires attention, and attention of people is lost when trust between creator and consumer is breached.

Regardless, remember none of this is that deep. I hope whoever reads this - fan, hater, or neutral - hope you have a great rest of day and a great life ahead.

I'm giving it a two just to praise the horribly overworked employees that poured their hearts into those portions of the game. The rest of the game is absolute dog **** The characters from the first game act so mind boggling stupid and in a way that is completely inconsistent with their behaviors from the first game. I know people mature and things change but just the series of events that leads up to a main characters demise is absolutely ridiculous. It's clear the writers did this to get from point A to point golf club to push the story of Abby on all of us. The game from that point just spins further into massive plot holes, terrible writing, and honestly probably just one of the worst and unsatisfying overall stories I've ever experienced in my life. I just don't understand how they could go from the quality story and character development in TLoU 1 to this absolute dumpster fire. Save your money and skip this or just replay the first one with the DLC and pretend it ended there. Expand

Heartbroken, that's how I feel. Character assassination to the highest of levels. Killing Joel would have been fine, killing him this way? Making one of the most badass characters in gaming history look like a **** moron? **** hell. Ellie going on this quest for revenge, killing all those people and she spares the most despicable one because of a vision of Joel. The man who would have not only killed them, but also tortured them if she was the one that died. And what is the moral of the story? This franchise is dead. I just hope they won't make more games. It hurts seeing one of my favourite games being burned to the ground.

A bleak trudge through a largely disappointing series of combat encounters that relies on shock value to carry its clumsily-paced story. The gameplay has seen some improvements from the previous entry and the environments and character models are impressive, but the whole experience feels needlessly maudlin, dwelling on traumatic events with an insistence that borders on pornographic.

There’s something off with the tone of this one, in comparison with the original, beloved game, and the difference is jarring enough to keep me from enjoying either the story or the generally repetitive, uninspired gameplay.

If this were an original IP, it would be much easier to rate it higher. To evaluate it as a story in a different genre, and praise its gorgeous environments. But as it stands, as a sequel, it fails to successfully deliver its simple message, ending on a note that feels pompous and ridiculously proud of itself even as it lands its last, resounding note (and dialog scene) with a hilarious lack of self-awareness.

    Yep.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
