The game's visuals are absolutely stunning and truely represent how far we have come in technology to create such beautiful graphics. Another piece I liked about this game was that there are multiple difficulty levels the player can choose from. The fighting is pretty much just like the previous game. You can upgrade your weapons and can craft first aids, molotavs, etc. Hm. Yeah that's it.

    Now for the bad.

I will try my best not to spoil this but if you are reading this, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU LOVE THE FEELING OF EMPTYNESS AND UNFULLFILLMENT. The characters you loved in the last game are not the same, as if they were written completely differently or as if the characters had amnesia and forgot about how much they care about each other. Many decisions the characters made in this game made no sense and leaves the player frustrated beyond belief because the PLAYER cannot PLAY the game in crucial moments. The player is forced to perform actions that no true person with any sense of morality would. The game tricks the player into thinking we will get a happy ending or at least a satisfying ending, yet when the ending rolls in, we are left hurt, confused, and angry. I am sorry, but when you make a game that is mostly loved and known for the story, you better make the sequel to it just as good. Unfortunately, this game does not have a well written story and there are many plot holes. I can't say much more without spoiling, but just know that I will always believe the Last of Us ended 7 years ago when it was first released. I will not accept this sequel as part of one of the best stories in video game history.

So before I begin, I'm about as left as one can get without sporting a hammer and sickle. Saying that even I grasp subtlety and nuance. This game has none of that. I tried really hard to avoid the leaks because I sooo wanted it to be good.
-If I were just rating it on graphics, ambiance, and music it would be perfect.
-Gameplay is pretty much the same as the first which is fine, kinda

-If I were just rating it on graphics, ambiance, and music it would be perfect.
-Gameplay is pretty much the same as the first which is fine, kinda frustrating at some points but
overall a still good play through.
-Were it face plants is in the narrative, characters, and plot.
-I expected this game to be about Ellie, it would have been disappointing if it wasn't. I'm not "triggered " because she's gay. I've been rockin' gay female Shepard since Mass Effect 1. Certain character deaths were kinda expected to move the story along (the hero arc formula).
-It feels heavily padded out to introduce new characters that don't really seem to serve a purpose other than to kill time. I never came to identify or even like any of them. Forgettable comes to mind. Most of the character plots and arcs go nowhere leaving me just wondering "why were they even there?".
-The game makes a point to make you feel bad. It ham-fists the "dichotomy of man" constantly. I felt like it was nagging me almost to the point were I almost quit playing.
-Its dark and depressing. There's no sense of hope or optimism. The first game gave you a dark, surly, cynical main character that life took everything from, and over the story rebuilt him with a likable, sassy, lost child. This game says "Don't even bother trying to live. Life's just going to come and kick you in the d#$k anyway" style.
-Some reviewers seem to want to give it a high score for what it tried to do, but other games have already done it and done it better.
-If I were to some it up, its just a cheap, lazy, petty, revenge story with nice cut-scenes. Its been done better by those with less.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with a good one. Great sound, musical accompaniment, one of the best atmospheres of the overgrown green zombie post-Apocalypse. Great graphics, gorgeous locations, with wildly beautiful and good detail. Everything is alive and beautiful, the weather is great. Models of weapons, animations, characters, infected and textures are photorealistic. Perfect color scheme. It is very interesting to explore the map. And everything except the plot, double morals and other things related to the narrative of the plot, the plot itself, and cheap techniques of playing on the imposed feelings is good. I don't even want to talk about the plot, it's just awful. Joel was made a villain, even though he saved his daughter from death in the first part, though not his own. Because the chance was less than 20 % and the cicadas still wanted to get the vaccine. And given the atrocities they committed, they would have used it for their own purposes. Joel is not a fool, decided to save Ellie. And now the writers are trying to make him look like a monster, making an angel out of (spoiler), even though she's a pure rat. There is also a bunch of moronic plot twists that just killed the plot in the game. So for me, it's just a single-player game with no plot, running for 30 hours. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU was never about the zombies. It was never about the gameplay. I was never about the graphics. TLOU was about the relationship between Joel and Ellie. Throughout part 1 you could see how their relationship develops and it touched a lot heart of everyone who loved the game.

TLOU had some of the strongest dialogue between characters. The scene where Ellie runs away on a horse and Joel finding her after is an example of what made the story and characters into one of the most praised game to date.

Then you get to part 2. Completely stray away from what defined TLOU. Yeah Joel isn't a good guy and his death was justified, but by doing so, it ruins the whole game. TLOU is literally about Joel and Ellie's relationship. It isn't TLOU without one or the other. I'm not sad because they killed off a main character. I'm sad because their relationship was what defined the franchise. If they wanted to kill off Joel, at least do it at the end of the game then end the franchise there. When either of them dies, its the end of the franchise so might as well do it at the end of the game then end the franchise there.

TLOU 2 completely ruined the franchise for me and it's a shame because part 1 was one, if not, my favourite game of all time.

    I rate this game a:
    fingers lost / 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm so disappointed with this overpriced horror show. A complete deconstruction of the first game and the characters you developed a connection to therein. Just a complete brutality to basically every character new and old, and the whole franchise's reputation.

Joel announcing his name to a group of strangers he already seemed suspicious of despite knowing that people could be looking for him after what he did was so forced and out of character. Ellie walking in on Joel getting beaten to death, GUN IN HAND, and not immediately shooting Abby was also incredibly ooc. Poor writing, not just in the overall story but also in terms of the characters is literally used as a gratuitous stepping stone, AKA a shameless excuse to get to all of the brutal, gorey violence.

Noy to mention it ends in a bleak way with no silver lining at all. Compare that to the way the first one, while bleak in nature still had its nice moments. Its moments of "ya know what maybe this hellscape is worth sticking around for." But this game? I'd get more enjoyment shoving fingernail clippings up my a** hole.

Don't get me wrong, I expected it to be bleak. The tone of the game is post-apocalypse. It revolves around death and the ugliness of man and yes yes it's all very grim. That kind of prepares you for how this isn't going to be a totally happy story. But everything they built up and established in the first game is just burned to the ground.

All the gameplay is basically the same as the first with some exploration buffs and NPC tweeks, companion AI feels clunkier now but a lot of the interactions between your people and between enemies outside of cutscenes feels very fluid and natural. That said, a lot of the stuff that's good about the game is done in flashbacks to when Ellie was younger. The actual current story they're telling had potential but the executuion is poor.

The game is trying so hard to get a specific reaction while blowing holes in why and how you should feel that way. We are supposed to empathise with Abby just because we are exposed to her when we're forced to play as her? We are supposed to think bad of Ellie when she killed Mel after Mel attacked her first instead of just pleading "I'm pregnant!"?

Abby killed the man that saved her life brutally and mercilessly. She wasn't able to empathise at all with why Joel might have done what he did, but you are expected to empathise with her? She even goes on to have a similar, protective sort of relationship with Lev as Joel did with Ellie. Maybe not in a parental way, but the parallels are still there. It really could have been a good story had they spent more time on the gap years rather than jumping straight a timeskip and Joel's very premature death.

All of this and the fact that the ending is not at aaaaall worth it makes this feel so incredibly soulless. They wanted to go down the route of "is there really a good guy in this kind of world?", and that idea could be incredible. But then they butcher the execution. Force you to play as the character who beat Joel to death for a massive portion of the game, and leave off with a terrible ending.

Ellie stated in the first game that she's most afraid of ending up alone, and they did that to her. She suddenly realises that killing is wrong after slaughtering countless men and women to get to this moment with Abby. She is in the middle if drowning her and suddenly lets her live. This woman killed Joel, almost killed Dina. In fact, upon hearing that Dina was pregnant from a battered and bleeding Ellie, she says "Good.", and proceeds to almost slit her throat only that Lev stops her. But Ellie suddenly forgets all of that and lets her leave.

Ellie goes back to Dina only to find she has left already, goes into a room and sees her guitar in its case. She pulls it out and learns she can no longer play the way Joel showed her all those years ago because she had her fingers bitten off during the struggle with Abby. She props the guitar up by the window, almost as if in memory of the man who taught her to paly, and leaves it behind. She has no use for it now. Ellie walks through the field outside, alone. Joel dead. Tommy partially paralysed but his characterisation definitely got massacred. Dina gone. Cut to credits. Game over.

There isn't even a slither of happiness in this game. Was the lesson "revenge is bad"? Because if so, they should have rolled the credits as soon as Abby killed Joel and told players "if that made you uncomfortable, do not seek revenge." In big writing before rolling the credits.
Either way the ending would leave you shifting uncomfortably with a bad taste in your mouth.

Neil Druckman should be ashamed of the false advertising via trailers and "10/10" reviews that sprouted up after all of the leaks. Just wait for how quickly the price drops on the PS Store to see how poorly it did. And even when it's cheap, don't subject yourself to this trashfire.

There could not be a bigger slap in the face to all the fans who bought this game on good faith than the first and last hours of the story, the mind boggles at the idea of this getting greenlit. Whatever Niel Druckmann, Naughty Dog and Sony were hoping to achieve with this title, I hope it was worth it.
