This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, I don't even know where to start with this game. I guess I understand why teh critics praised this game in the first place, and now you have people behaving furiously and leaving a negative review for a good reason.
People are mad because what they've done with the story in this sequel. If this was a new IP, if this had nothing to do with The last of us in general, I think people might love this game for its interesting approach and never-seen-before content, I'd say now.
But since this is a direct sequel to one of the, if not the best video-game of all time, or shall I just say "masterpiece" of a game, then you need to understand why thousand and thousand of people are extremely disappointed. Upset. Sad, even depressive.
The graphics, the deep details, the environments, the cutscenes, everything looks top notch. Top quality. It seriously doesn't get any better than this.
I think Naughty Dog has done a marvelous job regarding this job, my hat goes off to them, but it doesn't mean anything if the story is really, really bad which it is. Sadly it is. It's so bad it actually makes Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 looks like it's Ocarina of Time. It's just how bad the plot, the packing is. And this constantly switching to characters and the flashback scenes between Ellie and Joel.
There's this one scene when Joel surprises Ellie for her birthday, where he took her to a Dinosaur museum. Just imagine how absolutely astonishing this sequel would've been if the focus was on Ellie and Joel with a whole different story.
I don't mind Abby being there, what I do mind is ND pushing their political agenda in this game.
If you loved The Last Jedi, Game of Thrones season 8, there's a big chance that you're going to appreciate this game.
However, if you loved everything about the first The last of us, then there is no chance you are going to love, let even alone to "like" this game at all. Unless you buy everything ND related, then that's your own choice.
However, I'm giving this game a 2 out of 10 just because of the beautiful graphics.
The rest is just a sad, depressing, dark world of a video-game where it's forcing the player to do sadistic things. It's a nihilistic game.
Save your 60$ and get Ghost of Tsushima instead.

Originally I was going to post some trans-phobic joke for **** and to see if twitter lefties would screen-shot it an effort to make an argument, but I'm not doing that, I'm going serious.
I own a PS2, 3 and 4, I got to play a bit of the original TLOU in PS3, then lost it, years later, the remastered version was free for PS+ users, so I bought it, and I loved it, the game got me truly enthusiastic for the sequel.
Then I saw the leaks back in April, and my absolute hype for the game, turned into absolute hate.
I didn't and I still don't care if Abby is a mutilated 41%-ass individual, or if Ellie likes to scissor with women whose actresses got their boobs nerfed, what enraged me is how dirty they did Joel, a character that everyone fell in love with in the previous game.
Some time later, I kinda got over it, but I still wasn't going to play it, and when people got the game early VIA pre-order, I got even more goddamn enraged.
They torture the main characters like the absolute worst villains in history, Tommy gets divorced, one-eyed and limping, mad about the fact that Ellie promised him to kill that woman and now is hesitating about it, Ellie herself hallucinates about Joel's dead body and with how she couldn't save him, which inspires her to finish the job and fight Abby on an even fight where both of them are emaciated as hell and she DOESN'T KILL HER BECAUSE OF A FLASHBACK OF JOEL PLAYING THE GUITAR (Which absolutely contradicts what she said about Joel killing Abby if Ellie was the one killed and not him), then the game ends with Dina making a meme out of herself and taking the kids, and Ellie making a failed attempt to play the guitar with three fingers on her left hand, she's alone, she did Tommy dirty by having the chance of finishing the job, and HESITATING about it, and she made a complete fool out of herself by killing a bunch of people trying to find Abby and NOT finishing off the person you killed so much to find, ending the game with an unsatisfying climax, tbh it would have been slightly less bad if Abby just finished Ellie in the theater.
Good job, Neil, you got what you wanted, a game that literally no mentally stable person likes, and you are getting what you deserve because of it, I hope mocaping that scene with your self insert banging Abby was worth it.
I'm giving it a 2 only because of the REALLY slightly improved gameplay, and I'm being really forgiving with it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, so much controls for the reviews huh. I've been wanting to post my review for days but it didn't get submitted through as i've been giving it 2 stars. Apparently metacritics only receives positive reviews, the negative ones will be deleted. Review bombing they said, but only fake positive reviews get to stay and negative reviews are getting deleted. It's really unfair for those ppl like me who wanted/had to voice out our opinions about how bad the game was as our opinions were getting rejected or deleted or treated as review bombing. Guess we can never trust metacritic reviews anymore, its all fake and well-controlled. So disappointed.

Well, apparently all the companies weren't being honest with their reviews (or maybe they're paid to do it). But what matters is the reviews from the customers or users themselves, we are the ones who bought the game and played it. As u can see, there's a big rating gaps between the company and the users. Some ppl who are defending the game will say the reviews were getting bombed, but from what I see, there are a tons of fake positive reviews that are written by the "users" as well. Just because the rating is so low doesn't mean the ratings are fake. We are just giving an honest review about what we think the game is worth for.

We hated this sequel not because of we are some kind of narrow minded or homophobic. It doesn't have anything to do with that. We don't care about the sexuality of the characters or whether the characters are trans or whatsoever. We just simply do not like the story lines itself, its utterly trash as compared to the part 1. Well, one of the things that I DISLIKED the most on the game is the Joel's quick death. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying im opposed to the Joel's death, it was just so badly plotted that the main protagonist had to die in the first 2 hours of gameplays (we didn't even get to play much of him). It was an UNDESERVING death IMO. This makes everyone hated Abby so much and started making fun of her appearance by saying she's trans who has unnatural enormous big arms (the only way to unleash the rage upon her). Whats even worse is we were getting forced to play as her in the later of the game after what she'd done to Joel and Jesse for another 1/2 of the gameplay which is equivalent of 10 or more hours like WTH nobody is interested to know her pathetic back stories anyway. This sequel felt like a filler to me, everything is so dragged out. Especially the Abby's part where she wanted to find Owen who apparently turned against WLF, then trying to do some good deeds by saving Lev and Yara who we didnt even care about, beating Ellie up and back to finding Firefly. Every new characters in this sequel is just like random people on the street who you'd nvr remember them, none of the new characters have bonded with us like Joel and Ellie did in the first part. Maybe the new only character i sorta cared about was Jesse, the rest is just meh. At first i didn't even know who Danny, Mel, Leah, Nora, Manny was. Every time had to go back to the scene where Joel getting beating up scene to see their face clearly. None of them were memorable, they just faded away like that. This has already proven the game had failed to tell the story and its poorly executed. The ending was the worst, where Ellie ended up losing everything she had, Joel, Dina, JJ, Jesse, and she cant even play her guitar which was the only thing that made her felt connected to Joel because she lost 2 fingers fighting Abby face to face meanwhile Abby gets away with Lev and live happily. It just drives me crazy to think about it after everything Ellie had been through everything, killed everyone who got in the way, losing her friend on her revenge trip and ended up deciding to save Abby and let go of her. What's the logic behind this. I dont get it. The game is called as "The Last of Us" for a reason, its all about Joel and Ellie and this sequel decided to break everything into pieces. Speechless.

I remember the first part was a masterpiece and now it's ruined by the part 2 thanks to NaughtyDog and Neil. How i wish the game ended in part 1 and part 2 was never happened. The only thing that impressed me was the graphic designs, the stunning sceneries. Gotta give it to those employees who had put their heart & soul into it. It was such a shame seeing one of my favourite game of all time getting ruined like that.

P.S I've never created an account before to write a review for a game, but i did it for this game cause i was so entirely pissed off by this crap.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m sorry, what?! Am I even playing the same game?! How has this gotten such glowing reviews from so many gaming outlets? I’m going to go into why this makes no sense:

First, this is coming from a place of someone who has the original game in my top three best of all time. I came into this from a place very forgiving of mistakes because I wanted so bad to see more of this world. What I got instead is such a dumpster fire of plot holes and bad writing that I cannot get past that.

They basically took the best parts of the first and these characters we loved and mashed them into the ground (yes intentional wording). For the sake of being edgy and trying to subvert expectations. The other thing is maddening is how hard they try virtue signaling. I am all about more representation in video games, but this is so hamfisted it goes to only serves to make the lgbtq community look worse in my opinion.

What this plays out to be is a long winded, poorly written, angsty revenge plot with semi-servicable gameplay. Also are we seriously going to end the game with a QuickTime event? Don’t even get me started on how horrid the ending is and how hypocritical and against the character’s ingrained themes and motives it was on a writing level, but seriously?

The only reason I gave this at least a 2 is because the gameplay is serviceable ( it doesn’t really do much different from the original game) and because the world crafting and art design is extremely masterfully done. This is easily one of the most gorgeous games to look at I have ever played.

In conclusion, I feel extremely sorry for those who worked on this game to have people come in and completely tarnish what they poured their hearts and souls into the art assets and set pieces with horrible writing. Sony, you would be wise to do some cleaning out of naughty dog in its current iteration or I do not see things going well in the future. I have lost all trust in the current decision making at the studio level.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is visually and graphically stunning. The gameplay is serviceable at best. However with a game like this, the story is the most important part to me. In The Last of Us 2 the story is a disaster and is completely disrespectful to its predecessor. The plot is riddled with plot holes and contrivance. The ending is extremely unsatisfying as it attempts to preach a message about revenge instead of giving the player what they want. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The ultimate scene that kicks off the events of the entire game relies on completely retconning Joel and Tommy's characters. Throughout the first game, you see these two always being wary of any stranger. Joel even went as far as to attempt to run over a dude with a car because he knew that guy was faking his injury.

Neil Druckmann comes along and goes, "Nope, let's just throw the entire canon away". He had Joel and Tommy suddenly do a complete 180 on their established characters. They tell a complete group of strangers where their hideout was and Joel told them his real name AFTER THE STRANGERS LOCKED THE DOOR IN THE CABIN.

What's worse, is the game pathetically tries to get you to sympathize with the character who killed Joel. That attempt fell completely flat when we find out what motivated her to hunt him down: Joel killed the doctor, Abby's dad, who was about to do life-ending surgery on Ellie, who was shown to be an incompetent piece of garbage in the first game. That's right, the game wants you to feel sorry for Abby because her piece of s**t dad was killed for attempting to end Ellie's life without her consent.

Gameplay is only marginally better than the story. It works, but it's nothing special. The sequel doesn't do much to evolve the mechanics from the 1st game. But if you want to do that, then you need to engage the player in other ways. Well, the game already failed with the story. How about enemy variety and behavior? Sad to say, the enemy AI is very questionable. You could be in their near direct vision and they would still not notice you. You could kill someone with an arrow and his/her companion would not have heard the sound.

The problem is the pacing and spacing out of the gameplay loop. The first game did a good job spacing out the 'sneak around, gather supplies, kill enemies' phases with puzzles. The sequel throws out the puzzles entirely. As a result, you're left to wash, rinse, and repeat again and again and again for hours.

Overall, the story is a 0/10 for completely failing barely 2 hours in. I'm sorry, but if you have to rely on retcons to jumpstart the plot, then that disqualifies the entire story. It's like how I don't need to read an entire essay if the thesis is completely garbage. The gameplay, at least, is serviceable, so that's why I'm giving the game a 2/10.

The AI is so legendarily garbage you can pretty much just walk up to it at times. The story pacing is a mess. We are introduced to characters one after another with no time to develop any kind of feelings for them and they are killed off just as quickly. With such a rapid fire of companion deaths it really challenges the disbelief that OUR character just happens to be the chosen survivor of each encounter. Every attempt to make you 'feel' something or shock you/subvert your expectations is the dictionary definition of hamfisted. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sad and disappointed. I loved the first game so much and it feels like the sequel just screwed everything over. After all the leaks I had at least hoped that the relationships between the characters would keep me going - but it didn't.

Beloved characters acted completely out of character, best example Joel's death early into the game that was caused by him walking into a group of strangers and giving them his name - which seems so weird when you think about the Joel we met in the first game.

The game was filled with unnecessary, very graphic violence and torture p*rn at some points. I remember someone saying that this game is "rarely any fun" and that's right - the game isn't fun at all, it's depressing. And not in a good way because most of the characters in the game are so uninteresting to the story that you don't particularly mourn them. It's just boring.

The graphics are of course outstanding and the acting is very good, even though some dialogue seems very forced and unnatural. I liked the flashback scenes with Joel - this is what I would've wanted more. More Joel, more hope. But all I was left with was Ellie, left alone by her friends and her love, missing 2 fingers, letting the one who killed Joel live and going off into the wild.

I really hope they don't make Part 3, I don't think they can fix this.

Joel's mastery of survival is reduced to novice mistakes for plot contrivance. There's plot holes galore. Yes, their art team beautifully realizes a post-apocalyptic vision for America as we'd expect from Naughty Dog. I'd say the namely minimalist soundtrack mostly gets the job down, although it isn't quite as memorable as LoA1.

In the end, it's ridiculous because they say that if you dislike this game, you must be an evil bigot! The Last of Us 2 falla de forma ESPECTACULAR a la hora de continuar la historia y de que esta tenga una pizca de coherencia con la original, con personajes tomando decisiones increíblemente fuera de su personalidad, y con los directores prefiriendo la senda del "shock value" en vez de una buena historia.
