With all the background of part I there is any reason to justify the co-protagonism that occurs.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some reasons why i hated the game:
    1. False advertising.
    I avoided the leaks and pre-ordered the game. So, the only information I had about the game were from the trailers which clearly but deceptively showed that Joel would be a part of certain parts of the game. Except they killed him off within the first two hours, replaced him with another character and put his scenes as flashbacks even though the trailer showed him and Ellie as being older. At the moment they killed him off in the story I would have returned the game but trusting Naughty Dog and the professional reviews I had pre-ordered the digital copy so I was stuck with it and continued playing becoming more disappointed as the hours passed.

    2. The incoherence of Joel and Tommie’s characters which leads to Joel’s death.
    Both characters have survived decades in the postapocalyptic world, yet they stupidly follow an armed group down to the basement and then tell them who they are and where exactly they live. It doesn’t make sense. Why don’t they question why this armed group is so close to their settlement? Why don’t they assume they are some sort of raiders? Why were they not prepared in case these were bad people? Is this the same cautious and intelligent Joel that ran over a man pretending to beg for help for an ambush?
    A common response I’ve heard is that they became soft after the years of peace they’ve lived in. But being soft doesn’t mean being stupid. Also, the game itself contradicts this characteristic of Joel because in the game Ellie wears a gas mask, why? Because of Joel’s cautiousness! It is literally explained in a flashback that Joel does not allow her to tell anyone she is infected not even her friends and Joel tells her to wear a gas mask to which she replies no one is going to see her but Joel argues that they might run into someone.

    3. Abby.
    Our introduction to Abby is when Joel rescues her from being killed by the infected and then her immediately brutally torturing and killing him. This alone is reason enough for me to hate this character.
    The reason they give for her doing this does not justify it. Basically, Joel killed her dad and she was out for revenge. Except we know that Joel killed her dad in self-defence and her dad was trying to kill Ellie for a cure without her consent. Even the game shows that Abbie used the golden rule of “do unto others what you would want done unto you” to support her dad in killing Ellie arguing something like “if it was me, I would want you to do it.” Neither she nor her dad even wanted to give Ellie the choice. So, both Abbie and her dad are introduced as sadistic psychopaths.
    Someone might argue that Joel was also a sadistic psychopath, except as far as i remember, in the entire first game Joel only kills those who attack or threaten him and Ellie first. So, no he can’t be compared to Abby and her dad.
    And we are forced to play as her for 10+ hours.

    4. Gameplay.
    It’s the same gameplay as the first game. Except, in most cases, you can literally run past all the enemies then just jump over a ledge, climb something, go over a windowsill or most commonly hold triangle to open a blocked door. During the final sections playing as Ellie, I didn’t fire a single shot or kill a single enemy, I just rushed through. If I enjoyed the story and liked the characters then I would have played through properly but all I wanted was for it to end. Little did I know the ending was worse than I could imagine…

    5. The ending.
    The moral of the game is that revenge is bad. But at no point does Abbie show any remorse for killing Joel, she doesn’t suffer instead dozens of other people are killed by Ellie and co. Then at the end Ellie doesn’t kill Abby rather she actually saves her! Ellie ruins her own life and risks it in order to save Abby. She didn’t even have to take revenge, she just had to not get involved or walk away and Abby would have died.

    Conclusion
    I could write a lot more criticisms of this game such as it being an SJW’s wet dream and how they ruined Ellie’s character but at this point I just want to forget it existed. I hated it so much that it even ruined my like for the first game because I know it leads up to this garbage.    … Expand

    The designer only cares about his personal ideal. He doesn’t care whether the game meets the expectations of the players.

There were so many other routes this game could have and should have gone. 7 years of waiting to watch Joel die to a girl he happened to conveniently run into and save in the wild, even though Joel had a ton of trust issues in the first game and still did. Ellie learned nothing from finding Abby and fighting her. She ditches Dina and the baby to go fight Abby, to not end up killing her, lose two of her fingers, and everyone that cared about her. The pacing was a mess, the fights were mashing the square button or triangle button and the clickers felt easier to fight! No more shiv making for Ellie! She just has a knife that never breaks so now you can beat clickers easier than the walking infected lol. Also, thank you for tricking us in the trailers showing older Joel as if he was actually a big part of the game, but instead it was cut scenes of the past Joel. What a mess. Please, I beg you not to make a third game as that will continue to destroy the brilliance of what the first game was as this game has.… Expand

    No tiene nada similar a lo que se nos presnto en los trailers, y las prereseñas anunciadas para el lanzamiento, jugaron con toda la historia que habia detars y el legado de mucho tiempo de insertidumbre ante la infeccion, solo lo hicieron de lado y pusieron problemas personales en medio de una pandemia y el sentido de supervivencia del ser humano, es una historia muy deficiente.

    Don't bother. Really save yourself and check out other games. I'd rather shave my grandfather's legs than this.

    Negative two stars for the story and characters. But the graphics are very good. So my final review is zero.

    It could be a normal game if only it was standalone and we didnt knew main characters. It doesnt have any connection to the lore, the story about hate could live separate from TLOU world. Damn, they sleep in world of mushroom zombie with open windows. But most disappointing thing is drawn dramaturgy with stupid characters intensions. You playing in this game and just dont believe it.     All that being said: the game play is exciting and the contraptions are fun. You get two full sets playing as Ellie and then as Leia. The graphics are amazing and the settings very interesting. Trashed Seattle is too cool.    … Expand

It is even hard to sell this thing online. Sold the cd online after 7 days. Watched the entire story from a streamer. It is a propaganda movie. A branching ending could have been good by giving the players the option to kill or not to kill Abby the hulk. The story is bad.… Expand

I did not care for Abby and her child murdering dad at all. That whole arc with her was annoying, a waste of time, and practically unplayable. Hard to play when you’re consistently rooting for the character you’re playing with to die slow. I was rooting for all Abby’s crew to die slow too. Mel was right, Abby is a POS. Even near the end of Seattle I was elated when Tommy got Manny but then Abby shoots Tommy and you still have to play as her to fight Ellie?! BS! The ending is of course horrible and unsatisfying. Complete waste waste of everyone’s time. Only remotely satisfying thing was letting Abby die slow and get killed multiple times. If there was a shorter version where you skip all of the 2nd Act, then skip to Santa Barbara and Ellie either leaves Abby to be tortured or drowns her, or at least blow up her leg like she did Joel, so she wouldn’t last much longer, at least that would be a ok game, even if it was like 1/2 as long.… Expand

    I was lured in by the commercials. I never played part 1. The game play was fine, but the story left me traumatized! Seriously, this was why I abandoned TWD. I love a good zombie romp, but I don’t want to watch as the hero gets tortured to death. What a waste of what should have been a post apocalyptic adventure and was instead torture porn.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’d like to state I didn’t see any leaks or watch any reviews before playing and finishing the game. It’s not that it’s a horrible a game. The gameplay is smooth and great. Visuals are realistic, horrifying and beautiful. But it didn’t feel like a balanced sequel to The Last of Us.

    Given the controversial decision Joel made at the end of the first game, I was expecting to lose people and **** to go down, but the manner in which the story was delivered and executed felt rushed, overwhelming, manipulative and confusing. Every moment I thought I was adjusting with the character I was playing, something horrible would happen that would give me emotional whiplash and often without a lot context. Maybe that’s what the developers intent was, but I still think there needs to be balance so the player doesn't become entirely emotionally disengaged.

    In the beginning, there was little time to reestablish the characters and their personalities since the ending of the last game. The plot hits the ground running yet you're left in the dark with even what's going on with some of the main characters. I don’t think playing as Abby worked well halfway. Would've preferred playing her before she killed Joel or not at all. It's not that I wasn't willing to step in her shoes, but that it didn't matter how many hours I played her because of how she was introduced. Her first impression was "Joel's killer." It's BIG ask of your audience to try to overcome that. It seems Ellie doesn't even overcome that necessarily herself, but that she decides to forgive Joel and not take the resentment out on Abby by killing her too. I don't hate this game, but I feel very mixed, unresolved feelings on its execution.

    Overall, I would've liked for this plot to be more spread out and had its time taken or even separated into two different games or maybe not even told at all. There was just build up truly missing in some areas for it to feel well-paced and balanced with how much bad you're expecting your players to consume and expect it to not demotivate or discourage them.

    Edit: I've brought down my rating because this game triggered me a lot regarding the lack of censorship with sensitive (trauma, murder, abuse) content. I am shocked that sony approved of this game. There is something truly disturbing and sinister to think women want to be represented like this - unhinged, emotionally unaware, unable to navigate trauma in a more rational way, etc. Post-apocalypse shouldn't turn women into psychopaths.    … Expand

This is ridiculous, why players. have to play some brand new characters (abby) that are completely out of the first part gameplay and suddenly joel died for a very silly reason, and then tommy then jess. the last ending just **** suck's. Control Abby to kill Ellie? excuse me? I don't even want to play section of abby. There is really no feeling for abby . ending just a **** mess btw.

    This is what happens when a company leaves history aside, to focus on moral lessons of a sexual orientation nature unrelated to the plot. Incoherent and disjointed. Get you to go from one place to another without believing the motives of the characters to finally give you a supposed vital moral that ruins and does not fit with all of the above

I found it insulting to my (player's) intelligence when the game assumes you are easily impressionable and haven't made any ethical thinking on your own in your life. I don't need a elementary school grade lecture from any medium. If I were, I wouldn't play Last of Us and instead would go and read Aesop's fables which have more subtlety in writing. As it is, Last of Us Part 2 feels like it is written by an art-school student who thinks they are being profound with their edgy shortfilm.… Expand

    The second Opus start strongly, bu the ending is just garbage and does not make any sense. indeed it make me sad when Ellie lost everything and that's fine, it's a strong emotion that I've felt and few games make you feel strong emotions. But the whole scenario and the decisions being made by the characters are completely empty of sense and the game failed to create the empathy towards Abby. she is even a bad human being who kills without any mercy, she had revenge for her father, but she ain't different from other smugglers who lives in this post apocalyptic world.

Лев трансгендер и игра такой большой акцент на это делает, что просто Капец. Создаётся такое ощущение к финалу игры, что Джоэл мудак, это я считаю просто плевок игроку в лицо, вот вы ему сопереживали, а он тот ещё мудень. Ну не хватает Эбби мотивации убивать Джоэла, причём клюшкой и через целых ПЯТЬ лет. Просто сценариста надо было убить его и всё. Не верится совсём происходящее на экране. Игра ну уж совсем не реалистично ощущается, герои поступают не логично. Элии например надо было Оуену в ногу стрельнуть и всё в этом духе.… Expand

Shows how the writer hated these characters from the first game. The story is so forced and the politics is so obvious. The game play is similar to the first game with some improvements but I think giving so much options in the settings is confusing. It made me ask continuously throughout the entire game what the best settings are. I did not play the game for the graphics. I wanted to know what happened to Joel's and Ellie's story after the first game. Players ARE NOT GIVEN OPTIONS to get at least some branching story arcs. It felt like a very very bad movie to me.… Expand
