Myself and many others feel completely lied to. The trailers built the game up to be something it was not. Ellie’s “quest for revenge,” for Joel takes a backseat to dumb drama with other characters I could care less about. Where the first game was one of the most well written stories in triple A gaming, the second one seems to be written by toddlers trying to push agendas. My only question for naughty dog would be “Who is this game for,” because it’s obviously not for fans of the original. I don’t know if I should even sell the game. It would just feel wrong putting this game in the hands of someone else, knowing what awaits them in this 25-40 hour train wreck.… Expand

The Last of us 2 has been absolutely destroyed by the bad story writing and these writers don't care about the fans or respect the game at all. Looks like Sony got their devoted fans to spam this game with 10s cause it's not allowed to have a bad user score. and since you are here thinking about to defend this game's generic third person game-play that feels like a straight up copy of the tomb-raider reboot, or the story that quite frankly takes cues from saturday morning cartoons for it's attempt to make you sympathise with a killer by making her pet dogs and help people while the main character that tries to avenge her father figure is made to look as bad as the writer was able to by making her kill hundreds of people, some dogs and a pregnant woman. the theme of "revenge bad" is also completely lost since Abby got her revenge on Joel and gets to go home completely scot-free while Ellie stops her revenge at the last second due to a short vision of Joel's dead corpse. how does seeing a vision of your father figure's lifeless and beaten up body make you stop killing the person who made him this way? i honestly don't know, it makes no sense. so yeah Dr. "100 brains" Uckmann is a hack who only got the last of us to work cause Bruce Straley was probably keeping him in check. if you are some schmuck from twitter you would be askin if i would bring up that i liked the first one and that i am disappointed with this gmae. sorry to disappoint you cause i thought the first one was just an alright 7.… Expand

I stayed optimistic after what happened in the beginning Ellie’s first half saved the game it made you forget what happened and made you remember what was great about the first, but why make me play with some one you absolutely hate from the beginning for almost 10hours lose any type of love you had for the game that you gained back from Ellie and then fight the main character you love. I understand they’re trying to make you see her perspective but even that wasn’t enough. It was just running around fighting with an old fling. I’m just going think this never happened maybe give my self a concussion so it’s gone from my memory and play the original.… Expand

    The story is one of the worst things I've seen basically being a revenge story where the maincharacter doesnt even take her revenge even after killing numerous people, the AI feels like it came out of the first starcraft as a dragoon and put into a shooter game, and the workbench animation feels incredibly unnatural. These are just a few of the issues.

    There are so many things wrong with this, the only decent things are the combat system and crafting system.

    This should not be considered canon, this should not have even been made. Whoever made this obviously had a bad boss directing them to make this excuse of a story, also feels extremely rushed in many aspects of the game, no way this was decided on by the actual people who made the game on their own accord. Honestly never played a story that was so hyped up and sold upon 1 character and you had him dead in the first couple of hours, i was thinking okay no problem lets see where this goes until you made me play Abby the most ununlikeablecharacter in gaming history just to go and beat the **** out of Ellie!     Not much is needed to be said that hasn’t been already. Great gameplay and looks terrific. Writing is just awful, I didn’t realize it was a love story. As well as the terrible assumption that the fans wanted this. I see it was never about the fans. Guess the lying worked in your favor Naughty Dog.

I feel disappointed by how the story was told... and how they got rid of such lovable characters like what in the world were the directors of the game thinking? this was so sad they basically ruined a well known game.

Check this out guys, we went from a sad story that was all about finding hope and meaning in life in a post-apocalyptic world to literal MISERY p0rn where nobody can be happy, except the main antagonist. The story is a basic af 'revenge' plot, where they turn Ellie into a straight up psychopath who only feels remorse in cutscenes for some weird reason while murdering over a HUNDRED of human beings over the course of the game. And when the time for the actual revenge on the only person who ACTUALLY WRONGED YOU and was not somewhat innocent, Abby, they DONT LET YOU KILL HER. They take away the control from the player and don't let you get the satisfaction of murdering the SheHulk. Wow.
    Somewhere on the way there, you witness your father figure be brutally murdered. Later into the game, you are forced to beat the s--- out of Ellie because they force you to control the SheHulk monster called Abby. You have to press buttons and have to win the hand-to-hand combat duel with Ellie. This game breaks my heart. F--- you, Neil who directed this garbage and f--- you, Naughty Dog.    … Expand

Just terrible. And why do they make you play as Abby fighting Ellie and other protagonists. It’s ok that Jesse died I’m fine with that but no one wants to see Ellie get her **** beat like wtf. Ellie does kinda get revenge but at the end it feels Like your defeated or at least for me it did. Last of us 2 gave me a terrible feeling. Naughty Dog needs to fix this. Somehow.… Expand

    People say that those who dislike this game are hard-right conservatives that hate the idea of homosexuality, feminism, and the idea of strong female characters. I assure you that the reason why the user reviews are extremely low has nothing to do with this.
    THE problem with this game is the story. In the first game (The Last of Us) Joel is extremely cautious, cold, calm and collected, never let his guard down, and never gave any information to people he did not trust. However within the first hour of the game Joel tells strangers where they live, their real names and to top it all off, he trusts them right off that bat.
    This is not the Joel we learned to know of in the first game of the series. It is sad to say, and it seems like to me that the developers decided to throw out the development of the story for a single message... ("Revenge is bad, it will do no good for you and will consume you").
    Don't get me wrong, the visuals of the game are insanely well done, and I love the new intricacies regarding the overall gameplay, however, this game is a story-driven game and the story doesn't really have anything to show. You don't really feel like you go anywhere.
    I found no enjoyment in playing or watching the story... why would the developers make you play as a character while you beat the crap out of the main character that you've known to love with another "main" character that you've learned to hate. I just can't see what they were going for here, and neither can the other 40,000 negative reviews.

Story is awful, the whole game is based around Ellie getting revenge for Joel's death and after killing a ton of survivors and then decides to let the villain go after they killed Joel, killed her girlfriend and cut her fingers off.     Graphically it is a Beautiful game. Sadly the story is drawn out and overall just not as good as TLOU 1. The gameplay sadly becomes repetitive after 25+ hours

    First of I don't really think this game deserve 0 score, though it's the only way of showing protest against "paid" reviews of so called critics.

    Now let's get to why it's bad. Long and point by point.
    First of gameplay. It's dull, it's repetitive and it's absolutely boring.
    For a first quarter of the game you playing stealth game without any means to make stealth interesting you don't have skills(which by the way you should find in the means of magazines scattered around the so called world which is more of a tunnel with enough side turns or dead ends that will eventually lead you to a same point and still those magazines can be missed) and if you do, you don't have skill points to open them up soon enough to avoid this getting boring you don't have silent weapons and the only way to make it as it's intended to is by crawling in a grass and bushes with 1 button gameplay which is boring. Then we move to the second quarter of the game when you finally have tools but if you play on a highest difficulty the resources are so scares that you don't really have means of using them which again forces you to the point of either changing difficulty or continue boring bush crawling with 1 button playstyle. Then we move to the third and forth quarters of the game where you again striped out of means of doing the gameplay interesting and even of the mechanics as you play as Abby who is a part of wolves which were using dogs that made it at least a bit interesting and didn't allowed you to just sit on spot smashing stealth kill button. And instead of giving you a synergy with a dog and moving onto a new mechanics they just remove them from the game as a factor so the second half of the game is even a downgrade from already boring stealth gameplay. Again dull, poor and just plain uninteresting.

    Secondly story.
    I was never a fun of TLOU1 so I don't have any years long love for Joel or Elle. Though they were developing during the game, characters were evolving and that lead to controversial ending. Here we have a flat characters that don't do this. They just don't develop still at the end they take a drastic turns against everything they stood and fought for it's just a poor written drama of a broken characters that don't do anything in terms of what ending brings us to.
    Prologue and Joel's death make no sense at all. He stumbles upon Abby and her group just as they shows up in the region, saves them, tells his name, lead them to a safe house and can't understand where is this going to. No matter in the first game he saw through such characters by a single glance of an eye and then again Elle magically shows up just in time to see what is happening.
    Epilogue is even more stupid as Tommy instead of helping Elle as his brother would've probably wanted wanted sets her up on a vengeance path AGAIN. Then Elle finds Abby saves her and Lev, fight with Abby and let them go. Abby knows where cicadas are, have Lev by her side and get everything. Elle looses everything even her new family with Dina though she is the one braking vengeance circle she didn't even started in the end.
    Even with this BS story they could have done it better by parallel playing for Abby and Elle, or even by totally swapping the two halves of the game instead they try to make you understand Abby when you already don't want to, when you already hate her and just don't give any Fs about why she did what she did.

    And thirdly is a narrative.
    You don't make strong female characters by just showing how weak and bad male characters are, you don't make good gay characters by showing how pathetic and cruel straight are, you don't make a strong trans character by showing that for some weird reason(sarcasm) tribal, postapocalyptic, religious group don't agree and don't accept this chatacter being trans. The only thing this achieve is creating hatred towards this characters and,or there counterparts for the matter and towards the writers that just can't represent them by any means other then hatred. They must stand out by what they do and not by others that do wrong.

    And lastly you don't buy or otherwise force critics to say that game isn't what it is. A dull, boring, weak, old and underdeveloped in terms of gameplay and story pile of garbage. You don't make metacritic to start showing some weird server errors that occurs only for this game. You don't lie in promotional materials. You don't censor some games and leave others with a full out sex scenes.
    Again this game doesn't deserve a 0 score, it's 4-5 at least for it's graphics and detail obsession. But when I see 95 critics score for this I go for 0 to balance it out.    … Expand

WTF was this mess... if this got that many 10/10 from those so-called game journalists/reviewers, either they are bribed or they are simply retarded. There’re many things wrong in this game — the more hours you spend in this story, the worse it gets. The dev and the publisher are crazy enough to let the player to go through this story to not just waste their time but also destroy their experience and memory from the first game.

    The story writing and arrangement were some of the worst I’ve seen in years. None of the new characters was interesting or charming, and yet the dev decided to force the player to control one of the most hated characters for hours and to tell a story that no one cares. I recognized that many players probably can only feel connected to those characters from the first game, but the writing was done so poorly that these characters got so much different than the ones in our memory. The new characters are also changing quite a lot that it feels they don’t have fixed personalities which guided their actions. It almost felt like the characters (i.e. the writer) betrayed us by changing that much every, like, 3 minutes.

    Every flashbacks were awkward and out of place, and sometimes felt like the dev found a loophole in the story and then just added the information through a flashback. In my opinion the game was already pretty bad at nearly the end, but after the dev forced us to beat up Ellie, it got to the last “episode” and that’s when the game truly fell apart into a 0/10 crap to me.

    Gameplay-wise, it’s ok but also feels unexceptional. It was supposed to be a story-driven game after all. I’d have probably given it like a 2/10 simply for the mo-cap, map design and gameplay, but now it’s 0/10 considering how the dev replied on this mess and how this game left no feeling or even took all the connections to every characters from me.    … Expand

    The characters are unlikable, the story is terrible and sometimes when I hit an enemy, the attack went write through them. Also Abby. THE WORST CHARACTER IN THIS SERIES. The game forces us to have sympathy for her when she killed off Joel. WHO WAS ONE OF THE BEST CHARACTERS IN THE FIRST GAME. I will say this though. The graphics are pretty good. But I will never play another last of us game with she man the barbarian. This game hasn’t ruined the first last of us game, but if this is what Naughty Dog is doing with their series from now on.
