    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game does extremely well with it's visuals, audio, and setting. But falters on the characters and gameplay, not innovating on either. But absolutely drops the ball on a boring and dead narrative that's barely intriguing at the best of times. The whole intro sets the entire tone for the rest of the game... disappointing. The intro skips four years, and does nothing to tell us what happened during that time, nor why there's a group of fireflies who have somehow managed to track Joel down in the middle of nowhere? Not to mention as a man who full well knows that he is being hunted, drops the ball on keeping up an alias. I have no major issues with Abby, but the plot for Joel to die lacking major impact because it just dropped it on you out of nowhere with no real lead up.… Expand

    Phenomenal musical score, gameplay, graphics and scenery, but none of that matters due to the horrendous story. This review is mostly based on the story. This game honestly doesn’t even know who the protagonist and antagonist are. New characters are very unlikable, there is terrible flashback placement and a ton of plot holes. Main characters from the last game don’t seem the same and actPhenomenal musical score, gameplay, graphics and scenery, but none of that matters due to the horrendous story.     I just finished playing The Last of Us: Part II and I could not be more disappointed. Matching or even topping your original The Last of Us was a far stretch, and I don’t think that a lot of people were actually expecting you to do so. However, the critics are raving about TLOU2 ‘It’s a masterpiece’. The players have spoken too, and they think it’s a slap in the face. I agree with the other players.

    I really wanted to play with Ellie (and also Joel), but you have brutalized those beloved characters like they meant nothing. Joel gets killed by a nobody within the first hour of the game, and then Ellie is kind of going on a revenge mission but the game is not at all about that revenge. The game is about Naughty Dog’s double LGTBSETGGSWRGF (whatever letters are in it these days) community being shoved down players throats.

    No, I don’t care that I (Joel) killed Abby’s father in The Last of Us
    No, I don’t want to run around the woods for hours and hours with a few Asian people who have nothing to do with the main story.
    No, I don’t care about Abby
    No, I don’t want to play with Abby for 60% of the game
    No, I don’t want Abby to run around that hospital hallway for the 5th time in a nightmare playthrough
    No, I don’t want to run all over America to get some first aid kit for an Asian NPC I don’t care for. Amputate the arm and be done with it. It’s the apocalypse. I’ve killed hundreds of people in this game. I don’t give 2 cents about the people who helped me from getting hanged in the woods.
    No, walking simulator for hours and hours with Abby through camps, stadiums, hospitals and skyscrapers does not work for me to get any sympathy for Abby. She killed Joel, I don’t like her.
    Why does Abby need to show off her ‘superior' Hulk strength every 15 minutes?
    Why does Joel say his name within seconds of meeting complete strangers (and get’s killed for it)
    What did your team at Naughty Dog think when they laid out the plan for this game? Let’s start off with Ellie, let the player roam around with her for a few hours, and then in the end give Ellie back to the player for one lousy mission?
    Why do you, as a game company, lied in your TLOU2 trailers about Joel? ‘You didn’t think i’d let you do this on your own?’ This is false advertising.
    Why would I care about Owen, his dog or the Aquarium after pointless hours of roaming around there? I already KILLED them as Ellie. I love dogs, but telling a story this way does not give me any remorse whatsoever.
    Did you think players were going to enjoy hitting Ellie in the theatre and chasing her down? She’s Ellie for crying out loud.
    Tommy. He’s a character. Just for your information. He might be useful for the story?

    As you can see, there are some minor questions and issues I have with this game. The political and social agenda that has been shoved down my throat for hours was not entertaining or fun at all. I never thought there would be moments I would have liked to uninstall the game and just watch the ending cinematic online. I pushed through however, hoping that my pointless flashback with Abby would be short lived. Instead, I had to play for hours, and hours, and hours with a character who ruined the game for me. At one point during the sky elevator chapter, I just forgot who she was (on purpose) and said to myself that this was just another generic Tomb Raider or Uncharted video game. This is not The Last of Us. I will never play this game ever again, and I feel that Naughty Dog has lied to the gaming community. Maybe you should have just made a revenge game and let us kill all those monsters who killed Joel. Your writing is bad, and I don’t give 2 cents about your double agenda. You make entertainment products that are not entertaining. I was so glad the game was over. TLOU has some wonderful environments that are spoiled because I just ran past them at some point. Just to be done with it. I didn’t care anymore. Abby just ran into hordes of monsters and I enjoyed being killed by them. The credits should have rolled there and then. But hey, in the end we got to put some sheep in a barn with Ellie, that’s gotta count for something. I’m just sorry that we as a gaming community are the sheep and Naughty Dog is laughing in our faces. Maybe, in 2027 when The Last of Us Part III comes out, we can have a backstory about the armed soldier who killed Joel’s daughter in The Last of Us Part 1. Maybe we can get some sympathy for him as well. Good job Naughty Dog, by ruining a fantastic franchise. I hate The Last of Us Part 2.    … Expand

Making you play as the killer in the second half of the game made me not sympathize with it, quite the contrary, made me hate it. This game was an utter insult to everyone who played the first one. The leaker(s) saved me a lot of money, because I was about to buy the collector's edition, and I'll be forever grateful for that kind act.… Expand

    TLOU 2 serves as one of the biggest failures in the history of gaming. Sony and Naughty Dog crafted a disappointing story with outdated gameplay. In all honesty, the leaks, which happened months before the game was even released, ignited the downfall of one of gamings most beloved characters. From the abusive DMCA's affecting anyone barely discussing the leaks to the realization of false advertizing, where in early trailers of the game, Joel was shown to be a crucial character in the story's development. Only to be brutally, and very disrespectfully disposed of in the the first section of the game showed to us, gamers, what Naughty Dog set out do. Edit: At the moment of writing this edit, Metacritic has disabled negative reviews for this game. They are trying to silence all the disappointmented fans expressing their frustration with this pile of dog ****
    TLOU was a game distinguished among the others based on its entertaining, and sweet storytelling. However, Part 2 sets out to destroy everything the first game made. Joel is killed and singled out as the villain by a new uninteresting character called Abby, the best Scar Killer, someone who sees nothing more than violence and revenge after the impactful choice Joel makes at the end of Part 1. The game is a beautiful deatil work of art, crafted by over worked and underpay employees. The semi open world are a breath of fesh air from the linear nature of its predecessor, unfortunately that's all you are paying for here.
    Gameplay is outdated. A hard copy pasted effort to seemingly forget the mistakes of the last installment. Stealth is summarize as "Walk behing enemies and stab them with your knife, over its devastating long game. The shooting is as the original. Clunky, nonresponsive, hard to aim, and inaccurate. A headshot is affected by chance and the lucky moments when your reticle and the mary go round shaky hands of your character meet in perfect symphony. Jump, useless and prone, is used as a poor excuse to expand game time and hide the loading screens.
    The game is a constant duality. Uniting gameplay and storytelling. But when the most important part of your game is full of inconsistent behavior in part of your characters, Joel, Tommy, and Elli. The game opts to introduce us to a new set of avenger type mass murderers as the solution. We know Joel isn't a saint. But the attempt to destroy him as much as this game is trying to is laughable. The writing is geared to push Elli to her limits, and we see her slowly falling to the pit, but her counterpart, Abby somehow gets the sweet tratment and is in a journey of self reflection and change. But guess what, It doesn't work because this game is based on perfectly, and improbable acts of pure coincidence. Its just a Simulacrum, in which every possible circumstance that could lead to this story happens and its materialize in the fly and from thin air. The game makes you feel terrible, because its in fact terrible. Gore, gore and more gore is what makes part two trully obnoxious and honestly adept to psychiatric counseling. Quick time events are a combination of thumb and square smashing action. Sometimes I could hear my controller begging me to stop. These moment are quite well done, bit too many too much. Aside from set pieces encountering this acts might lead you to your death by a clicker. Since reaction time in a 30 FPS game like this, where turning aroung gets you dizzy is a hassle.
    This game is built on coincidence and poor storytelling, your favorite characters are turned into fools seeking a Fool's endeavour, such as the cycle of revenge, ND so proudly think they mastered, where there are clear winners and losers. Spoiler Alert Abby the piece of **** Wins.
    My honest Review is a 4 out of10.
    The poor artists carry this game like Jesus carried his croos. And just like him they carried it straight to the grave.    … Expand

It's an offense to the work that had the first title, the characters are horrible, the plot full of inconsistencies and things that have to happen because if to advance the plot, the characters are a shadow of what they were before (And no, to justify it by saying "is that time passed" is crap) the gameplay is minimal compared to the movies (Try to face the problems and not just in stealth mode and see what is really gameplay, nothing compared to what they promised)

    Now, the memes they managed to create are a 10/10

The game has a nice development, it's precious, but you don't read a book just because it's maked of gold, you read a book for what it contents. The writers re-wrote all the male characters to be mindless jabronies, Wtf. Joel is john wick, he has a code of survival in the first game, and in this one he trusts random strangers with his real name acting like a noob??! The whole story is crap! crap writing and mediocre changes to gameplay(wow a jump button); kinda makes this not worth 60 dollars. Bring down the price. Its starting to make sense why more than half of naughty dog left, Neil **** butchered a fan favorite. The fall from grace is felt. Save you money andyour time..THINGS are looking up though, Ghost of tsushima is coming out, assassin's creed Valhalla is on its way; These will wash away the taste of DeadDreams and staggeringaRegret that The Last of Us part 2 has left behind....p.s. the people leaving horrible comments on Laura bailey 's twitter should shut the **** up.     Steaming hot garbage. A trans gender girl (really???) kills Joel, our hero, at the 2 hour mark. Ellie comes out as gay (smh) and the ending is a snorefest/copoit after 35 hours of play. Do NOT buy!!!

    this type of game is heavily influenced by the story, this story is so terrible!!! how can you give this 10/10? are you out of your damn mind???? this is so wrong...!!! the characters and story are so bad you just don't even care what happens next because you don't give a damn about them after what happens to Joel..... you just can't defend this game no matter how much you loved the first one.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love narrative driven games. Love them.... I’m frequently telling everyone I know that Hollywood is done, and the real talent and stories are in gaming.
    After all, just look at RDR, RDR2 and TLOU.

    I never wanted a sequel. I know from the get go, that to make it as emotional, they’d kill Joel. Which IMO was just bad, lazy writing, but I was sure that was what they’d do.

    I was expecting a John Marston/Arthur Morgan quality story of redemption... after all, this is Naughty Dog. They thrive in story telling, don’t they?

    Nope. No they do not.
    TLOU2 takes one of them most cliched and overused plots of any bad B movie ever, and makes it into the main plot.
    Then gives up any desire for character development or even trying to stay true to what we know about these characters And destroys them immediately.
    The nice thing about TLOU was the subtle nod to Ellie being gay. Subtle being the main point... we didn’t need it rubbed in our faces, because Ellie was a great character, and so it didn’t matter what she was. It was barely a blip on the radar.
    TLOU2 takes that subtlety and beats you round the head with it so badly, that any negative comments on this game automatically get you labelled as homophobic or transphobic.

    Neil. It’s great you want to support these communities, but leave your politics out of the damn game!

    As for Joel. I can deal with character death. I do t gave to like it, but given that the RDR games are 2 of the greatest ever made IMO, I can accept it if it serves the story.

    Joel’s death does NOTHING for the story. Nothing. The man who ran over someone in the last game just because he had a “feeling” something wasn’t right, willingly goes with a group of strangers and tells them everything. He then proceeds to be beaten to death in glorious HD by a woman. The daughter of the surgeon he killed in the first game (I did mention the plot was utter dog **** didn’t I?)

    Not only are you then forced to play as the person who killed one of the most beloved characters in gaming for 10 hours, whilst we “learn” about her. Not only did I not want to know anything about her, what we did learn was boring and mundane cliched bull****.

    Then at the climax of a game all about revenge...and this game is pretty brutal. I’ve seen it described as torture porn - and that’s pretty accurate... you have your one chance of revenge taken away from you.

Obviously built to fit an agenda and to be inclusive which ruins everything if you are throwing it in peoples faces like this game has. garbage. The first games story was touching, moving and made you care about its characters. This one makes you hate everyone excpet for a few. What was naughty dog thinking? But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
