Got worse later into the game. Too much PC in one single game. Damn! Certainly the end of the road for this series for me. Feel really sad. Sold my copy straight after my first bitter playthrough. I’ll watch out for this game directors next creation. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i have had a lot of fun with the last of us 2. the game play is fun and always has my attention. while abby has a lot more action segments i compare to chris redfield, ellie still has the majority of gameplay, and is more like leon kennedy with great stealth mechanics. everything i had in my mind while playing, ellie did everything i wanted her to. and the game starts off really strong and kept me engaged. sadly thats where my praises end. while the gameplay and graphics are a step up from the original, the last of us part 2 sucks as the second game in a series. while ellies story starts off strong. the game tries so hard to shock you, while a simple shock doesnt mean its a good plot point. joels character was over hyped in trailers and his character when it came to how he died was ruined. joel spent the whole first game trying to teach ellie basic "dont tell anyone too much" kinda things, like street smarts basically cause he knew how naive she was. now while i believe tommy would be too trusting, joel walking into a group of people he doesnt know and telling them his name is ridiculous. all in all. the last of us 2s developers did a good job at making a Game, but they fell flat when it came to making a good part 2. the last of us 2 will go down as a "the last jedi" of followups. it still has that "last of us" tell and such. but as a part two, its sadly a very mid tier game Expand

I realy hate the last of us 2 story, i think that Mr. Druckman could write the same story concept but if the events or the details are diffirent i will love and adore the game.

The actions of the charcters seemed stupid and absurd in this game keeping in mind if we compared those main charcters in the ending of last of us 1 and 2 there is a big shift in the charcter personality, mentality, approachs, belifs and etc,. They looked like they are a totaly diffirent people!

Ion the other hand, i loved the gameplay and ill give it 10/10 even though it was simmiliar to the first game, I loved the visuales of the game, it was astonishing.

And in game like this where the story is the biggest part of the game. I don't care they killed Joel i don't care half of the game was about Abby, but her and hers group story was just not entertaining and the cheap tricks from writers to make us like Abby were just pathetic. Like she can cure cancer, but i will still hate her because she's the one who killed the character i fell in love in the first game. Sadly gotta give this 4/10 even tho it's a really good game but not at all what i expected... Expand

At first, I was not very interested in playing The Last of Us 2 because I knew that I would not overcome the first part, after listening to so many rumors I decided to embark on the trip, to be very unsatisfied at the end. I had a feeling similar to that of the end of GOT, from my point of view the story is not the strength of the game, I was shocked that after playing with the protagonist, the game forces you to play with the antagonist, the development of the game is Forced to the point that the game becomes too long and boring, I expected a more satisfying ending after 40 hours invested but that is not the case with TLOU2. Joel's death seemed poorly executed, mainly because you only play a few minutes with him, that the whole game is an endless quest for revenge I consider it very poor and mediocre from a creative point of view. The positive is that I have to praise the technical part of the game, the level designs are fantastic, the setting, the music, you definitely feel immersed in that universe. The graphics are from another generation, exploration was my favorite part of the game and I have enjoyed the game, especially the fighting. In conclusion, TLOU2 does not go beyond the first part and leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the story and the characters, but it is not a bad game either. Final verdict: Average.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished this. It did not live up to the first game but for me its not as far off as a lot of people are saying.
The story tries hard to get you to sympathies with both protagonists but ends up just making you not really feeling anything for either of them. By the end you're just pushing the button because the game wont let you progress until you do, specifically the final showdown.
Story aside the gameplay is pretty good. I quite enjoyed the many different ways to approach the fights. You can sneak through and stealth kill everyone or you can run through guns blazing (at least until you run out of ammo).
One issue I did have was with searching for crafting items. Becomes very repetitive to open draws and cupboards to find enough supplies to make the items you need. At the same time this makes the game feel more realistic in the post-apocalyptic world so I can't complain too much.

I did not find the game very engaging, I do enjoy the game play, scrounging for bullets and weapons and barely making it through encounters but there are basically no innovations from the last game. This would be okay if the story was on par but since it was not I found myself losing interest way before I reached the ending.

Last of US 1 was a great, great game.

Last of Us 2 not only added nothing to the development of the lore or game-play, it took away all the positive connection I had with the characters from the first game. I would rather the game did not get made. Forget the money or the time I spent, Neil destroyed what was once timeless and memorable.

    Was there any positive? Yes.

All the scenes where Joel and Ellie conversed, even when they were arguing.

And of course, the museum scene, that almost made the game worth it.

    But not quite.

1 for the great Joel and Ellie scenes.
    1 for the amazing graphics.
1 for the occasional great level design.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is just as much Abby’s story as it is Ellie’s and that would be perfectly fine if I liked the character. So the game is for the most part a revenge story, during the very first chapter of the game Joel is literally beaten to death by Abby a former firefly while Ellie is forced to watch, thus all the interactions between Joel and Ellie are done through flashbacks. As a fan of the original game this is incredibly disappointing. Okay so I already knew from the first game that the people Joel and Ellie were killing were just like them in the sense that they were just trying to survive and they too had loved ones they were trying to protect this isn’t new information to me, so I really dislike that now they’re deciding to show the Firefly’s side and portray Ellie and Joel as the villains after they got me to care so much about them in the original. As for all the new characters that are introduced I just don’t care about any of them especially Abby so being forced to play as her for half of the game just isn’t fun. I don’t even like Abby’s back story I mean I know it would have been really predictable if it was somebody close to Marlene that sought revenge on Joel but the daughter of a random NPC from the first game is the one that vows revenge on Joel, I mean I didn’t even so much as know the lead surgeons name and yet his daughter is the one that kills Joel and is now the main playable character in the game. If they wanted me to care about Abby at all then maybe they should have told her story in chronological order maybe then I would have developed sympathy for her up until the point that she kills Joel but to have her just outright kill Joel from the onset with no explanation what so ever made it very difficult to sympathize with her. It all finally comes to an end with a fist fight between Abby and Ellie where Ellie decides at the very last minute to not kill Abby and lets her go even though she was relentless in killing every other person responsible for Joel’s death Abby is the only one she decides not to kill, if you believe Ellie would find forgiveness for Abby in the very moments that she’s trying to drown her then fine but I’m on the fence. Honestly I don’t think any of the ideas in this game are bad I just think they were executed poorly and if I had to rate this game from 1 to 10 I’d give it a 7. Almost everything about this game is amazing the gameplay, the graphics, the music the only real shortcoming is the story which is kind of ironic considering the story is what elevated the first game to be a masterpiece, out of all the things I imagined could go wrong with this sequel the story was the last place I thought Naughty Dog would drop the ball but there it is. I feel like, you can make a game without killing a lot of "main" characters. They did in the first game, yet in this game writers goes basaltic. imagine growing up with your teddy bear and suddenly your mom throws it away, you `wouldn't be happy, right?

Finale was also anticlimax, feature no "real" morel message to the players/viewers. Some stuff was just unnecessarily for the story. This story is also heavily dependent on political views, specially about women and trans. In the first game, didn't have any kill able female characters (which is interesting).

Overall this game is "NOT GAME OF THE YEAR", weird decision. It's like they were making a perfect pancake and a customer asked Nutella inside a pancake. Obviously you get confused, but you don’t want to upset customer. In the end your pancake is horrible, but you made your best effort to satisfy the customer.

It's a good game, but very bad writing, hope the writers realize how to write a story without being dependent on society moral and listen to their own hearts and how they feel like story should go.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have no words for how much the story sucked. They managed screwing up a beloved character, killing another in an over simplistic manner and to top it off they force you to engage and control a new character (who by the way had way more charisma and attention than the main chars) and expect you to care about her.

All bad decisions leading up to a repetitive game with a uninteresting story centering itself in a character you don't care about. Way to go people.

I've been making myself endure the game simply because I could not believe how much they f'd it up. Don't buy it, it's an exercise in frustration and patience. A wonderful game followed by complete trash that has probably disrupted what could be an awesome franchise. Will not but the next one.

You must play this game with an open mind for being a story about lost and finding one self. It isn’t about the revenge story, as it’s more about different perspectives and that understanding them will sympathize you with the story. It’s about how Elle never found her reason to move on and live after the results of the first game. Certain character’s actions causes these terrible consequences and If you choose to not understand then because you don’t like certain elements then you are on a blind path just like Elle was. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been a fan of TLOU for five years, and have been anticipating this sequel for just as long. I knew of the contents of the leaks, but never saw them and tried my best to not let it distort my view for the game. I trusted Naughty Dog would do better and deliver. Boy, was I wrong and disappointed.

First, I applaud ND for taking such huge risks with their storytelling this time around - that took guts - however, I cannot say that it paid off or was worth it, for me personally. Doing something risky does not make it brave or compelling, let alone a masterpiece. It's how you execute it that matters.

Visually, this game is a masterpiece. The graphics and audio, music, environment, cinematics, and acting was all Oscar worthy. I was fully immersed just by those pure aspects. Even the gameplay was fun, despite it being just a revamped updated version of TLOU1. My jaw was dropped from the visuals at the opening scene alone. Beautiful work by the developers and art team at ND.

However, I play TLOU for the story, and that is where this game fails. They take what you love about the first game, and rip that from you before your very eyes. For shock value, maybe, but mostly for impact - an impact that never comes with a pay off. I had other expectations for where this game would take us, and they definitely did not go that route. My views of the game constantly shifted while playing through it, until now where they have solidified. Joel and Ellie's relationship is revoked to just flashbacks. They very well could be told in present tense and work in the narrative just as well. The flashbacks were my only favorite parts of the game, since Joel and Ellie's conflicted relationship is treated as a subplot to make room for Abby's story.

Their plan to use Abby to build empathy with the player did not work for me one bit, as it didn't for most of the fans as well. She did not show any redeemable qualities or even have any likable aspects to her that made me cling to her as I did with Joel and Ellie. I found myself so bored while playing her and learning her story. Even her friends fell flat as characters and I did not care for them. Alice was an exception though :)

The pacing of the storyline was also messy compared to the first game. It's non linear, which muddles it along the way. Once you feel it's ending, it just keeps going on to a draining end with no pay off or real conclusion. This mostly was their intent to show how revenge works, but once again it falls flat. It feels as though the game is beating the player over the head constantly with the message of revenge, desperately trying to tie forgiveness in with it which frankly doesn't work for me. The constant use of plot devices to manipulate the player was so obvious I was laughing. Abby plays with dogs vs Ellie kills them, etc. After a while it all feels so inorganic and shallow, compared to the organic feeling the first game gives you in its narrative.

There are also plenty of plot holes, contrivances, and character inconsistencies that made the overall story feel weak. Does Abby not know or realize that Ellie is the immune girl from the hospital? Joel and Tommy conveniently plopping themselves into Abby's clutches, without even fighting back. What exactly makes Abby want to save Yara and Lev, besides her dreams?

The ending of the story just left me hollow and depressed, feeling like I wasted 20hrs playing for nothing. Feeling like my five years of investment in Joel and Ellie was for nothing. Everything felt so meaningless, and I was hurt and felt manipulated from the start. Maybe that's what they were going for, but not all players enjoy this type of treatment - to them OR the characters they deeply love and feel connected to. I love Joel and Ellie to death, and seeing where the both of them ended up by the story's conclusion wrecked me like hell, especially since it felt forced and for no reason despite for the sake of being bleak and nihilistic. I guess what the players are left feeling is what was intended, but how we got there was cheap.

I missed Joel throughout this journey, and wanted to see his and Ellie's relationship (which has always been the heart of TLOU) fleshed out even more as they dealt with their issue of "the lie" but it was taken from me, and you. The scene where he tells her the truth felt anti-climactic and rushed. The dialogue was blunt and weak despite their strong deliveries from Troy and Ashley.

Overall, I had fun with the gameplay and the visuals, but story wise I was hurt and let down. Five years of waiting only to be emotionally manipulated in a cheap fashion by ND. You should play it for yourself to form an opinion and enjoy the graphics, but only that. Don't play this game to escape from the darkness of our world, because it only adds to that. The light in the darkness from the first game has been switched and taken from you, only to leave you and the characters you love lost in the darkness.

If you're looking for a realistic looking game, you've picked the right one. The facial expressions are so well represented that even when the game is muted, you can know what the characters feel.

Gameplay : 9/10, the gameplay feels smooth. Very little glitches, the animations for the stealth kills and the crouch walk / prone are perfect. However, the shooting in these games don't feel right. I feel like these characters have never used a gun before. I do love using the bow and the crossbow.

Story : 7/10. I gave the story a 7/10 not because it is bad, but more because there are a few things that didn't satisfy me. Here are the few things I disliked:

    1. Not having a choice at the end of the game. Not being able to choose to continue the cycle of revenge (Lev going after Ellie after killing Abby) or stop it ( The current story ending ).

    2. The part of the story when we play Abby. Just before we play Abby, we are left with a cliffhanger. I felt the need to rush the part of Abby just to see what happens next instead of trying to understand this new character. Maybe if we had her parts at the same time like: Day 1, Ellie's story, then Day 1, Abby's story, then Ellie day 2, Abby day 2, and so on.

    3. Not enough Joel and Ellie. The first game was so magical with the adventure we had with Joel and Ellie. I would of loved more flashbacks as I find myself smiling ever time I see these two together.

The reason the final score is 7 while there are 2 scores that are 10 / 10 is because in these types of games, the story is what's the most important.

I love love love Ellie's part of the game but Abby's meh, not so much. Trying so hard to make us sympathy with her, was just forced and off. I understood why she did all this but again it was horrible. I feel like they made this game not to complete the legacy of Ellie and Joel but to milk the franchise for part 3 and more money no matter who they sacrifice. So in a nutshell, part 2 is just a base to start part 3 Expand

The game forces you to like a character that you play for 3 hours and kills the protagonist of the first game that you spend 10 hours of your time playing and enjoying him. And the way they killed him was also horrible, it wasn't even halfway through the game that Joel goes and surrenders to people he doesn't even know. The message that this game tried to send too... "Revenge is a stupid game" Ellie kills all of Abby's friends just to in the end gives up on killing her.
I couldn't sympathize with Abby at all, every time I played with her I just wanted her to die.
And some unnecessary scene by the way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be fair, the game is not that bad, only in terms of gameplay. The problem here lies in the storyline.

Lots of fans (just like me) were not interested in playing Abby. The way the game tries have you to empathize with her is just pathetic. Abby's point of view, wasnt even that immersive. And they forced u to beat Ellie up, "kill" Joel... for me, it was not a story to enjoy, since E&J were the main reason why I bought the game.

The game fails miserabily also in the ending. All the suffering and sacrifices from Ellie, made no sense in the end.
I get it NG, REVENGE IS BAD, but also bad writing, imposing agendas and changing chars behaviour just to have the "story" go the way u want it to go.
The story could have so much potential: Joel's death could have been developed much much better. it's so bitter to see your MC from the first game being killed (just for a story trope), by a random antagonist just introduced.
I think most of the players wanted to see the development in Ellie and Joel relationship, and how the whole choice about saving Ellie's life could have changed and progressed between the two. We get just a little chat about that, but nothing more.

And, about the side characters. just crap, Unlike the original ones. The old characters, are so diverse from the 1st game, its so sad to see how they changed them just to fit their agenda.

Finally, save ur money. See some streamer play it, it doesnt deserve time.

It believes itself to be telling a deep story of “revenge is bad” but it fails to recognize that justice and revenge are two sides to the same coin. In a world where there is no external justice, communities have to protect themselves and take their own justice. This game ignores that nuance, instead delving into a weird, “killing people who came to your town, hunted, tortured, and murdered one of your own should be forgiven.” That’s not how society works. That’s never been how society works. That’s literally why our society has jury nullification, because sometimes we all agree that revenge killing is justice(I.e., in recent years, the father in Texas who killed his daughter’s rapist with a shotgun). We see two paths laid out in the game: Ellie, who’s father figure is brutally tortured and His corpse desecrated in front of her, by invaders who came to her community and tried to kill her and her uncle. She hunts them down and executed them quickly, and only in self defense(with the exception of Nora, an enemy combatant that she tortures for information on the rest of the invaders). And then there is Abby’s path. Abby is out for torture and blood and pain. We see her mercilessly torture others with no emotional reckoning after the fact, we see her betray and turn on her own companions, and yet the game repeatedly tries to instill that Abby’s path was justice, not revenge, whereas Ellie’s path is revenge, not justice. They utterly failed at their own theme or any sense of nuance and it makes the entire game ring hollow. Ironically, a play series written in 400 BC dealt with the theme of the boundary between societal justice and personal revenge ENORMOUSLY better than this. It’s called the Orestia cycle, and I highly recommend that the writers of this game look into it. The playwright concludes in the end that revenge only becomes unjustified when there is an external force to administer justice. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us is my favourite game of all time so I was excited for the sequel, even though I got spoiled about one of the major events. This event sounded questionable but I decided to wait for contexts like many of the critic reviews said to before I judged it. My thoughts on the game overall by the end was graphics 10/10, gameplay 9/10, story 3/10. The story just killed my enjoyment of The Last of Us Part 2 completely. It is so terribly written. There are some good moments, which is why the story gets a 3 and not a 0 but they in no way make up for the awful story choices that are made. Joel's relationship with Ellie is spat upon, characters make ridiculous choices, and the mystery woman, played by Laura Bailey, is, in my opinion, the worst video game character of all time. This character and the way she is portrayed is one of the big reasons why the story is so bad. Not only that but the ending is just awful. It completely undoes the message they were trying to tell and makes everything feel pointless. Again, the graphics and gameplay are amazing, but I just did not want to replay the game and witness such a terrible story. I returned the game yesterday. 4/10. The graphics, gameplay and some story elements are good but since the overall story is so important to The Last of Us Part 2 , and most of that story is horrible, I had to give it a 4. Now, whenever I replay the original The Last of Us, I am going to have to pretend that this disaster never happened. fgdg Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
So wäre Joels Tod glaubwürdiger.

Its seemed to fall into the horror film trope of people constantly making bad decisions. There were parts where I was questioning why my character was doing what they were doing, why I am here endlessly killing. I loved the first half however, the the second half had me much less interested. Then again the final couple of levels just had me wondering why the hell I was there. The story failed to convince and fully engage me, and the ending just left me feeling empty.

It always looks amazing but even then the very clear 'gaming' rules and an environment where your interaction is controlled and mostly linear it also felt quite old-fashioned at times. There is a ten foot wall in front of me but I can't climb it because it has leaves on it, instead I have to go do several things to enable me to traverse it.

And it was very much an extension of the first game, if you haven't played the first I couldn't see how you would understand or relate to this game unlike say Uncharted 2 or any of the sequels from that franchise.

Not disappointed though, there are some incredible moments there just that they aren't joined together by convincing storytelling. I may go for an NG+ on the hardest level, I may content myself by replaying some of the better encounters. The combat is satisfyingly brutal although towards the end of the game did start to feel samey. Also the pacing was a little slow at times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe this game deserves a 6/10. It was highly disappointing. Although the graphics were phenomenal and the gameplay was great, the story fell flat for me in a number of ways. For one thing, Joel’s death while not surprising felt rushed and executed merely for shock value. His death felt numbing in a way that it partially contributed to me not caring or being emotionally attached to any of the characters in the game. The lack of care for the characters is due to the fact that I felt a handful of the characters relationships with one another were insincere and could have been developed more (Jesse, Ellie and Joel, Dina, Lev and Yara, Tommy and Maria, etc.) During the game and up until the end, I found it difficult to fully connect or care about any of the characters in the game whereas in the first game, I developed a deep attachment and understanding of Joel and Ellie, flawed or not. Furthermore, the switch to Abby, not only threw me off in terms of the plot progression (bc with Ellie we had reach a cliffhanger by Seattle Day 3 and then we switch to Abby) but also because Abby’s story felt like an entirely different saga vaguely related to the most prevalent events of the game. I understood the theme of vengence, violence, forgiveness, and tribality, however I don’t think I needed such a long and dragged out game such as this to understand these themes. In fact, I’ve seen shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender (a childrens show) reflect these themes much more powerfully and executed in ways that made me deeply reflect on the human condition not only as a kid watching it, but still as an adult rewatching it. I can respect the risks Naughty Dog has taken in an attempt to elevate gaming to new storytelling levels, however, the story just did not work for me. Expand

By the second half I wanted to get through it as quickly as possible. (I actually sprinted through multiple encounters just to get moving, especially during the last area of the game).

Regarding where most of my disappointment comes from. I think.

Imaging driving your car, getting blindsided by another car killing your parent (a hit and run), chasing them down in a blind rage, and then taking an air bag to the face with a note taped to it from the speeder saying "sorry, not sorry, I'm sure you understand".

I'm still finding it difficult to articulate how I feel a few days after I've beaten the game, I apologize if this review does not explain it well.

Grief has several stages, but not here. There are two, anger and acceptance.

Joel is brutally murdered by Abby, you go out on a man hunt to take revenge (the whole time truly furious and convinced that Abby needs to die and everyone that helped her as well) and then.

    Boom

The sides switch and you are forced to play as the person who killed your father-figure in bloody fashion, in an effort to make you understand her side and empathize with her. Keep in mind, Abby shows zero remorse for her actions, and we are just expected to be "huh, I get it now. I killed all your friends, but you (the person I set out to kill in the first place) can live".

By the end I left the game thinking, is that it? I left confused not knowing what I'm supposed to feel, but feeling disappointed and almost numb and not sure why.

The last of us part II, a long wait for an underwhelming experience; the first games ending seemed to eliminate the course of the game in which the second Is based around. Joel literally stands over marlene and she says. “Wait let me go!”... Joel follows up with. “You’ll just come after her.” Proceeds to shoot her shortly after; For me this seemed to suggest the second game was not going to based on such a trivial idea such as revenge. The first Game ends with a 1000 different possibilities to take the story in any direction in a world of infinite possibilities. The gameplay is a PS4 masterclass, from its easy accessible UI, the the dazzling graphics and stunning world in which you get to explore at your own pace. The Last of Us Part 2 delivers a solid stealth/action experience. It’s got characters I like and care about. And it looks really, really nice. But lots of games have a solid gameplay experience and good characters and pretty graphics.

The Last of Us Part 2 is supposed to be more than that. And it isn’t.

TLOU1 was a love letter to the South and Americana in many ways. It lingers on the foliage of the vistas, you fight zombies through abandoned suburban towns, the final fight in a snowy mountain town was unforgettable. TLOU2 suffers in many ways through a reliance on sewers and abandoned buildings and basements. In the first game Tess sacrifices herself to help ellie and joel after she's bitten. When she begs them to run you can see the fear and anger in her. In this game there is no one compelling in that manner. Abby becomes your favorite character because they make Ellie's campaign so tedious you can't help but like her.

As many others have said, Ellie is reduced to a workshopped set of keywords: angry, fatigued, sardonic, unempathetic, insecure. I think less of an issue than uses not liking this game is why do the critics love it so much? It believes in its own greatness with a burning passion, and critics lap this up. It believes "bad guys can be good too" is a mindblowing message. If you look at games such as God of War, the Witcher, or Persona 5, you see games where the story is incredibly complex and rich. If you play a game such as Dark Souls or Bloodborne you see games where the story isn't even clearly explained and yet its utterly haunting. TLOU2 doesn't come close to this complexity of storytelling, yet critics have slavered over themselves for it and to defend it to all. This game is just ok - not bad, and not great, but a perfectly fine game with some issues.

The Game is absolute trash the story makes no sense this game makes you play more than 10 hrs as **** Abby really they make you play and understand why she did what she did and its hopeless. She only got revenge on Joel because he killed his father. Joel killed many people before him and those could be parents who have children to but no Hulk needed revenge on Joel. We didn't even played more than 3 hrs and Joel died because of Abby. This game in my opinion it disrespects the man I mean the sex because as you can see they kill Joel and Jessie, and leave Tommy absolutely harmed without chance of defending himself but the woman who is Dina, Abby, Lev, and Ellie got to survive to be right on tha choices they make, and they are bad examples for the player I mean Dina and Ellie smoked weed and then they had fun, Abby killed Joel to show us that she was no better than him because he got revenge and harmed Ellie physically and emotionally as kind of how Joel did so what is the game telling us? That revange is the best way to solve problems?, no **** way! These needs to know, you need to know Neil Druckman that your not a mater mind as you think. If you want gamers to be happy with the game admit that you were wrong doing it and try on doing the game all over again with better story than that. Im really disappointed. Expand

The Last of Us 2 is to me, the PS4's answer to Game of Thrones.

The Last of Us remains the best game I have ever played, I adore it beyond words. The same can be said for the DLC of Left Behind, both stories are spectacularly told, and I have yet to find a franchise that is able to create such an attachment and love for their characters as much as this one.
There is no denying that the sequel would undoubtedly leave people unhappy, the pressure on this game meant that nothing short of perfection would be accepted, as should be the case because the unfortunate truth of this game is that it has for me, and for many others, tarnished the beauty of its predecessor.
It should not need to be said that graphically the Last of Us 2 is indeed a masterpiece. Other elements such as the gameplay and the acting are improved but stay true to the original., it is perhaps what makes the story of this game all the harder to accept. I played this game with a mixture of heartbreak, anger, and disinterest. Heartbreak for all the artists, actors, programmers, everyone who worked so hard especially amidst the rumours of crunch time behind the scenes; anger that the writers had failed to match the high standards of the artists and the original. Disinterest because I felt no enjoyment throughout the second half, and indeed part of the first.

It took me 3 attempts to finish this game. Admittedly only because i felt I owed it to those who worked so hard, and to my adoration of the original, I prayed the payoff would be worth it.
Neil Druckmann said that they would not create a sequel without a real reason, indeed the motivation here demands the story be told, the story begins as a mission for revenge - pure and simple. The game plays out with a similar linearity to the first one with regards to gameplay, but with a strong reliance on flashbacks and alternative POVs to create a depth that quite frankly, it could have done without. It has taken me many hours to accept the story and direction taken by Druckmann, I have however still not forgiven it. The insistence on forcing this outdated and frankly unwanted trope that 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind' is what makes this game so unlikeable. The message is too forced, so much so that it detracts from the likeability of even those characters from the original. It also does not help that they altered the trailer, substituting characters to avoid leaks.
At the end of the day I cannot score this game poorly because it is so beautiful in every aspect but story. It has though ruined the beauty of the Last of Us for me. I wish it hadn't, I really wanted to fall in love with this game, but no matter how many excuses I make, I cannot forgive the laziness of the writing. I see hints of the bittersweet nuances of the original, especially in the flashbacks, which makes this review all the harder. But I felt lied to when I finished this game, angry that the very same people who created the first game with all its depth and heartbreak, could turn around and accept this as a worthy sequel.
This review is not an angry rage against a direction I did not agree with, it is a solemn warning of the disappointment to come for any who choose to play this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is unavoidable that the theme is how NaughtyDog deals with the stubborn relationship in 1.
However, it is difficult to tolerate the present work, whose humanity and affection before the pandemic disappeared from the root.
Negative emotions are too great to make Joel a foremost player by putting Joel on the forefront.
It seems like a consistent theme from the previous work, and I will never be convinced by the sequel that lost sight of how to convey the theme.

Elie wants to forgive Joel's sin
Elie wants to forgive Abby's sin
A player wants to forgive Joel's sin
Feeling that the player wants to forgive Abby's sin (high difficulty).

    Everything is off.
Personally, I think that players cannot be immersed in the last Erie's disappointment unless everything is tied with equality.
Even if Ellie's disappointment is shown from a bird's-eye view, I can't feel the weight of Joel's death, and above all I can't feel the weight of the gameplay.

Do you want to draw opposite ego?
Do you want to draw Ellie's forgiveness and liberation?
After all, it's just an unpleasant game experience

TLOU1 Suspension bridge through action game The player's emotions that increase effectively cause a chemical reaction with a scenario that draws two distorted love

TLOU2 wanted the player to build a complicity relationship with the character through an action game, and to create an immersive feeling in a scenario that makes you feel guilty and disappointed, but the script is too bad and it is not functioning.
I think what Neil tried to do was an experimental and interesting idea. If all went well, I think it was a great gaming experience. However, the result was the worst game.

He completely betrayed his fans by immersing himself in the best gaming experience of the previous game.
It's just unpleasant and bad taste, and what remains after clearing is the feeling of emptiness and fatigue.

I used the previous work as a tool to evoke this **** feeling. And I don't feel the need at all. Nothing is convincing.

You don't have to create what your fans want.
However, it is unforgivable to insult the fans who supported you and the story of Joel and Erie from the bottom of your life.

The volume and making of the gameplay part is wonderful, and it can be said that it is an orthodox evolution of the previous work.
    That's not enough.
It's painful just to imagine playing the second lap because you're forced to play a game that violently tells a story or violates player feelings. This is an incredibly horrifying flaw in the game.

Not only fans, Naughty Dog betrayed many people who made this game together.

The plot twist are very forzed, there's poor character development, a lot of violence just because, and some parts of the game where you wish to finish them faster.... I can't recommend this game because veery poorly developed

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
