If a game can be a 10 out of 10 and not perfect, then by the same logic it can be a 0. Characters from the second half of the game were very unlikeable and I could not bring myself to empathise with them no matter how hard I tried. This was due to poor pacing and execution of story elements (Joel's death) early on in the game. Naughty dog decided to take a massive dump on beloved characters, trying really hard to make them unlikeable. This is especially true of Ellie. Pandering and pushing an agenda in a post apocalyptic world was another draw back which I will not get into because it has become a very exhausting issue in recent years. The fans wanted one thing and the Studio another. Expand

So the last of us was a masterpiece on the PlayStation 3, so just like Terminator two, any sequel will fall short in comparison, but this game exceeded my worst expectations, the gameplay and graphics were incredible, however the story was atrocious, this was obviously a politically motivated video game and it was distracting from within the first hour of gameplay all the way until the end, it honestly turned me off of the game to the point were I didn’t even care about the story, and just rushed all the way through sothat I can finish the game, they couldn’t have done a better job at making it this uninteresting, I feel that this game was a direct job at any true fan of the franchise only to appease the SJW community Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly I want to love this game and I'm forcing the playthrough but I just don't. The content is there but the sequencing is so messy. I appreciate what the aim was with the chronology and I'm deffinetely behind increasing positive lgbt representation, but the messy order of things doesn't invest me in the characters enough. It's like having the punchline prior to a joke, it just doesn't land and its just such a crying shame. I feel a lot of the game I'm just rushing through with all these new characters forced upon me to get back to the point I can progress the story again. As time went on I did get slightly behind Abby but I never really connected or sympathised with her and can't get over the fact I may have been a lot more open to her if her plot came first and it was advertised as her being the lead with Joel and Ellie being a surprise twist for the end rather than a tease. Imagine having that devastating moment once you had already bonded with Abby through her and Levs plot rather than trying so obviously to get you to change your mind after making you despise her. I feel that would've been a much more tense inner conflict if we'd gone through her journey only to realise we'd brought her to that moment, not realising her back story or goals and be torn between 2 characters we knew and loved as we suddenly realise who she is. Its almost like part 2 and 3 were both made simultaneously and mashed together. By no means is it garbage there's a lot of class voice acting and visuals here, but given the wait I feel its evident from the fan base a lot more vetting was required. The gameplay really hasn't had any major upgrades from number 1 and I'm surprised so many critics are ignoring this. The combat gets stale very quickly especially if you played through no 1 prior to recap and I honestly don't see how people say its been upgraded or improved dramatically given the time spent developing it. I will still buy and support naughty dog games and it is their vision and creative drive which 9/10 times blows me away, but this is a bit of a failed experiment and what could've been amazing is made quite frankly boring and mediocre by rehashed mechanics and a creative yet misguided narrative Expand

The gameplay itself has marginally improved from its predecessor and is overall more enjoyable than the first, especially the stealth. Despite this, I ultimately see it as being a step down from the first since the story was lackluster and the gameplay didn't improve too much to warrant it being superior. Expand

The good things first: The Last of Us Part II is arguably one of the most gorgeous looking games ever made for a console. The level of detail is insane and pushes the seven year old hardware to its limits.

But unfortunately, good graphics don't make for a good game. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese, the pacing is horrible, the newly introduced characters are thoroughly unlikable, even though the developers try to manipulate the players via pathetic and predictable story beats. Returning characters are being basically abused to push far left propaganda. None of it makes any sense. The entire premise of the first game has been thrown down the drain in favor of nonsense. The ending is arguably one of the worst and most unsatisfying in video game history.

In terms of gameplay, The Last of Us Part II is mediocre at best. The entire loop of stealth, knife kills and looting becomes dull and repetitive very quickly. Not to mention the annoying quick times events. The first game wasn't a revelation in the gameplay department, but the captivating story was the major driving force to push forward. This is not the case anymore.

Overall, The Last of Us Part II is a prime example for the definition of "style over substance". A huge disappointment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Going to be fair about this... have a great fun on this game, but i am extreme dessapointed. My critic its not about the base of the story. Vengance; Ellie against the tortures of joel. Its simple and strong for a videogame. My critic is about the plot. Im excluding technical, graphic and inventory aspects. Love those. And of course the IA (the only criticable about the 1st last of us it is same here).. 1st: play with abby..what a horrible character to play with, not charming not funny not grace. They make you hate her, then force you to empathice and worst of all, gave her the best gameplay parts. Never engage with the character or even like it. What a waste..
    2. The characters are kind of stupid: joel and tommy gave the names to the everyone they met (hi im joel.. maybe you heard abbout me. kill thousands. Someone you knew maybe) . then tommy says to ellie in the theater: "its over" and insist to come back to jackson. But then (in jackson) he aforce ellie to hunt abby once again. All because he cant? So tommy (one of my most love character) is a coward.

    3. When abby is about to begin torture joel, they gave you the impression they know each other (but never do). It will be much better that naughty dog work on a dark past of joel (that he torture abby or someone close to her), that way they give logic to the decissions of abby. But no. She tortures joel without regret and joel only shot his dad because his dad threaten him. So much anger in abby doesnt fit. Could fit if she still a bad **** but no, they insist in humanice abby, the antagonist. So redundand. Why cannot her and her group be just evil people.. on the end all of the people ellie kills has his motives and families.. so better do a game of friendship.
    4. Hate that ellie talks abbout abby as "abby" and abby (about joel) as "joel".. by their names.. are they so close? So incoherent. Once again forcing the bond with player (us) and abby (the ****)
    5. Last but not least.. you pardon abby? After you kill half the planet seeking her, you forgive her? Why?

I think they should work something simplier. Learn abbout game of thrones mistakes. And not try to get impresive, remember that first is a video game that you should like to play. And not a movie you should like to watch.

    Sorry my ingles

Was hoping to get another brilliant story with Ellie as main character but instead had to play as this Abby/trap villain without being able to skip her/its chapters or get back to Ellie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is just lazy, this whole revenge plot is a decent idea, but the way they did it only pisses the players off. Why have a revenge plot to teach the player that revenge is not good after killing dozens of people to finally achieve your one goal, to kill the main villain! Yes, Abby is the villain, she's a psychopath that willingly smashed a person's skull after a person lying on the ground helplessly begs her to stop. The game tries to show the players her perspective but fails to have the connection that Joel and Ellie have. They spent a whole game on Ellie and Joel's relationship and expecting the player to have the same feeling towards the person that literally ends that is such poor and bad writing. This game can NOT be enjoyed when the story makes you cringe so hard, it's hard to focus and survive when you are playing Abby. Thoughts that come up are just letting the game kill her. This revenge plot could've been an interesting one, if Joel maybe died in a better way, and actually focusing on Abby as the villain. We kill her and realize that revenge isn't the best way to cope with someone's loss. Instead, we just got a blue balling ending which made the whole player base pissed. 0/10, can't even focus on combat without thinking of killing my self. Expand

Story - TLOU2 is a dumb revenge plot which anyone can find a dime a dozen in any B list movie .The studio tries to shove a political agenda down the gamers throat and doesn't even bother to make the cancerous pc agenda bearable. The story would have been average if not for TLOU , in the context of the first game it is terrible with characters doing things which would have gotten them killed 30 years ago and how they have managed to survive all these years is the true miracle. The game even fails to execute the simple revenge plot properly by "making us sympathize" with the antagonist and not even finishing that up properly.
Characters - The characters are generic and one of them looks like they have been taking steroids for 10 years. Hate the character progression.
    Graphics - Great
Gameplay _ TLOU was never a game you would play for the gameplay and the story was the main draw this game falls flat in that regard still credit where credit is due it's" better" I guess.

The Last of Us Part II managed to address the gameplay issue. On a surface level, the gameplay might seem like small iterative changes. For the most part, I think I would agree that the changes themselves aren't all that big. However, the way these small changes affect that game is huge. The new prone mechanic adds so much to stealth. Crawling through the grass to get a better angle on an enemy was very satisfying. In the original last of us, AI would only stun enemies, and in infrequent scripted sequences, they would kill enemies. Now, AI can kill enemies for you. It may seem like a small thing, but the feeling of getting helped by an AI made you genuinely glad they were there. The enemy AI was also very much improved. Runners are incredibly debilitating, and getting caught by one won't necessarily kill you, but getting caught with a clicker nearby most definitely will. The clickers themselves work slightly differently. Before, they would patrol an area and react to you if you made too much sound. They still patrol, but they have a scanning method now where if you are in front of clicker even without moving. If the "Click" to see you, they will notice the human shape and attack. This made for stressful engaging moments when an approaching clicker makes you relocate.

Human enemies are also much improved. They call out their dead comrade's names if they spot you killing one of them. It adds to the immersion in the middle of a fight and makes you reflect on what Ellie is doing. The new human enemy type is also fantastic. Scars will communicate with each other using whistles. You never really know what they're saying to each other, but hearing any whistle will instantly put you on edge. They also made a significant haul to the stalkers in this game. In the previous game, stalkers were just stronger runners. Now stalkers live up to their names. Once they are spotted, they run away and track you. You can't hear them even with your listen ability, and the only way to find them is to search unless they find you first.

I will say the new shambler addition was lacking for me. I think the reason for this is because they are blind. The ability to throw projectiles are not scary unless you get spotted. And even then, it's so simple to hide away again. Shamblers were a very disappointing addition. Not as strong as bloaters and not that scary due to their blindness.

The game also looks gorgeous. That can't be understated. The amount of work that the developers put into this game shows. The controversy surrounding the overworking of developers seems to be true when you see how much small detail and nuances put into every aspect of this game on a technical level. Some have mentioned glitches, but I have not run into anything notable.

The leveling system was also improved. I liked the concept behind this change, and overall I would say it was positive but nothing really to get too excited about. Finding books now unlock entire trees and pills are your upgrade points, just like in the first game.

Up until this point, I've only said good things, and I want to make this very clear. The game is one of the best games on a technical level. The gameplay works, however, a horribly written story surrounds it.

Decisions made at the beginning of the game serve to shock. After the initial hit of shock, you're just left with confusion. I didn't feel sad or mad. I was just confused. The amount of respect they give to characters is shockingly low. The disservice they did to even knew characters was so high. At one point, they leave you on a cliffhanger and don't give a release until hours later. There's a time jump, and you're waiting to get back to the cliffhanger, but it drags on for so long. You end up not caring for the new characters that they introduce during this time jump. The characters make decisions that have no bearing at all to who they are. It seems like they make decisions, so there can be a story. The amount of lampshading that happened in the second half of the game was so incredibly high, and the fact that the writers thought that merely stating the issue would fix the problem is incredible. Character motivations are weak. The story feels extremely contrived at points. But the worst part is that there are genuinely great moments in this game. But instead of enjoying them, it feels like a spit in the face. This is what the game could've been, but you don't get to see it.

The same way its fantastic story carried the first game's lackluster gameplay. This sequel's amazing gameplay is weighed down so heavily by it's disappointing, non-sensical, contrived, **** story.

The gameplay and graphics were phenomenal and stunning to look at, but the story is the main factor that makes this rating drop for me as it had unnecessary political agendas in a zombie apocalypse and certain character treatment were horrible, especially the ones we loved from the first game and yet making us play as a character who downright killed off the main protagonist from the first game for 10 hrs for the sake of sympathizing with her was disrespectful and maybe could've been executed in a better way. Hell, even the ending was terrible as there were alot of ways that it could've ended better than what we've got. Overall, this game was a total disappointment especially after waiting 7 years of being hyped from a beautiful well crafted story of the first game. Expand

People playing games, play games for fun - a game should not be used as a tool to brainwash someone. Its actually quite pathetic, because it isn't even subtle. Games, movies and entertainment allow suspension of disbelief, because the audience just wants to have a good time. It doesn't matter what the story is about - aliens, mutants, whatever. But audiences are not stupid - they can see a blatant attempt by someone to push an agenda. It is unfortunate, that the "powers that be", choose to sacrifice a franchise for their political motivations.

it makes you wonder if there is any point playing games anymore ? Where is the fun ? If gamers just wanted to be brainwashed, we could turn on our favorite news channel and watch it all day for free, instead of shelling out top dollar to get disappointed.

The question is, why is there such a discrepancy between critic scores and users scores ? Critics care only about where their bread and butter is coming from. Users care about other users having a good time, and avoiding wasting money. Now media outlets are saying it doesn't matter what the fans think. If the fans think the game is terrible, then who is the game being made for ?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay improvements to this game were amazing. Additions to stealth, differences in enemies, and optional areas made this game shine over the first game. The visuals are amazing and you find yourself always looking into the distance.
The downside is that this is a narrative driven game, we aren't here for the gameplay or the graphics, we are here for the story.
Joel dying was understandable, I honestly expected the cult to play more into Ellie's story judging by the pre-release material. Via that I expected Joel to give his life for Ellie. His death was grossly done, the revenge plot poorly handled. You spend far too much time playing as Abby. Looking into her past and a little of the life as a Wolf would have been fine, however, half the game was a bit much.
Characterwise, Jessie and Dina were wasted slots. Jessie existed literally only as a means to get pregnant just so that Dina could have a child. Dina's relationship with Ellie was sad as well. Their first two amorous moments are under the influence of alcohol and weed. Not the best way to start a relationship. I feel like Dina would have had more impact if she was a steady girlfriend to Ellie instead of a fling.
Her anger at Ellie leaving was honestly inconsiderate, Ellie is having PTSD, and struggling. Instead of allowing her closure, she tries to emotionally manipulate Ellie to stay, further hurting her. I was glad to see Dina gone, and not surprised by Jessie's death.
Abby, **** Abby. If we were supposed to sympathize with her, they failed. Her section dragged, it only proved further that all she enjoyed was killing.
Ellie's vengeance took a toll on her, she hurt each time she killed them. She looked sick. She wanted it to be over.
Abby just killed and barring the two people she spared from the seraphites, just kept killing without remorse. Cultists, Her own people, and Ellie's group. She had no care in how many lives she took, no remorse. She **** her Ex despite him having a pregnant girlfriend. They were all awful. I wanted them all dead.
Not killing Abby in the end, just was the icing on top. I feel like you should have had a choice. Kill Abby or don't. If you spare her, you get a better ending. A vengeance ending may leave the player personally satisfied, but perhaps give Ellie a worse ending, such as Dina leaving.

Joel's death could have been more impactful. If it had happened mid game, we would have had more feelings for it, instead of just anger. Example, if we had the characterization that Joel and Tommy had to be cautious like they were in the first game, perhaps Abby and her group could have tried to earn their trust by helping them clear out the swarm of infected where Abby was found
Speaking of, why was that not tied up. It was such a loose end and it bothers me personally.

TLDR Game pretty and works good. Characters and story not so good.

The graphics of the game are amazing, the audio and visuals are the best part of it. In my opinion it falls on the story aspect. The first game did that alot better. Characters act stupid just so that the plot could continue and the ending.. I don't like it at all.. It would have been alot better in my opinion if the player had been given an option, Kill Abby or don't. Plus, if there were choices that affected the story... There aren't. The story is the same pretty much on every gameplay. Joel dies, Ellie goes for revenge. Abby is crucified or something and they duke it out until it ends. So to end my review.. visuals and audio, very good. Story and replaybility, not much Expand

Virtually every time you encounter infected it is in a closed dark space, where you see the world through the circle of light that is your torch. It’s forces a particular style of play on you (if you can see what you’re doing.) It’s also predictable: every time you find ammunition you can be sure you’ll soon be coming up against infected, normally in a cellar. They also seem to miraculously appear out of nowhere. Your movements are slow. Switching weapons is an unnecessary ordeal and getting stuck in (yet another) dark basement detracts from the story. The problem is there are too many sequences like this. They’re just unimaginative. You feel cheated and it interrupts the narrative. The story is an heroic and sincere attempt at driving the narrative forward from the first game. However there are a few too many flashbacks. The use of ‘notes’ lying around telling you the zombie apocalypse is a bad thing gets tedious. Some of the flashbacks are genuinely well crafted. The game treads a fine line between sentimentality and an exploration of relationships between the different characters and factions. Yes I know it’s a game. So was the first one and that was brilliant. That is to say unpretentious. I’m glad I’m playing it and I would recommend it. You can make up your own mind.

I was so looking forward to this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So...this is hard for me. I had to pull back and look at this game objectively. Do I hate this game? No I do not. Do I hate things about it? Yes. Do I enjoy this game? I'm not hating on certain plot or characters specifically. However
...what I DO NOT like about this is how much time we spend with Abby. STOP!!! I dont dislike her character and I even loved playing with her at times. I do think we needed to spend more time with Ellie. The Ellie to Abbie ratio is off. Motivations were clear and understandable. I didnt care to play as Abby after she killed our beloved Joel. After that it felt like Abby was shoved in my face. But I justdidnt care. Joel should have died after we spent time with Abby and began liking her. Joel's death may have made sense on paper this way and I can even accept it. It was out of place here and was far too early. The game itself was almost copy and paste from the first one minus some small tweaks here and there. I dont understand the death threats and the super negative things posted. I love Naughty Dog. However I dont think I'm going to replay this one. Just due to the fact I know I wont spend time with Ellie and Joel. Maybe I could have grown to like Abby more if she didn't kill Jpel so early. I wanted to attach myself to Abby more but in the end I couldn't talk myself into it. I hate that I didnt love this one. Thanks for the effort Naughty Fog but this wasn't what any of us were expecting. And I mean that in the bad way. I know it's not the job to give us everything we want. I also think it is part of the job to take care of the characters. That unfortunately was not done. ....but I wholeheartedly think it's because of the reasons I listed. I do think alot of love and care went into this game. I had no issues with sexual orientation or appearance.

Soo, I love the Graphics, mechanıcs and all of that, but not the story line. This game was had some much potentıal. They really risked the game, even we get a equal story to the The Last Of Us 1, we love it either. But no. Make the Joel dumb for his Dead. 25 years of pure apocalyptic survive experiance at the first game he was like, '' I trust nobody, being extra leery'' In the Part II like, '' Hello my name is Joel Miller and this is Tommy Miller, we come here from Jackson''. And then Like '' Oh you have friends in a place, nevermind I don't have experiance let's go'' And instantly dies. We don't care about Joel died. I already waited lıke few years thinking '' Probably they are going to kill Joel'' but we care about how he died. Like dumb, 15 years old boy won't do that and Joel like Nevermind let's go! He would be killed next to Ellie because of saving her.Another thing Neil showed us Joel in State Of Play first, I was like Let's go! Joel is here. And he died in first hour, Jessie says Joel's exactly same lines like Bruh. Waited 7 years to play this game and they created a Netflix story line. Like showed a muscular woman, girlfriends you showed Okay! I do not want more but no in 2013 Netflix was not that popular so we get a masterpiece story, now 2020 Netflix storyline. What about Abby huh? They did not show her. I was playing, 20 minutes later some woman showed up like Hello. We played she like more than Ellie. When the half of the game showed up like you are going to play 10 hours of Abby Really. And then play 30 minutes of Ellie and Abby again REALLY. They showed a npc dog, we forced to kill the dog 5 hours later We see the past of the dog, I really do not care! Joel should see some Sarah flashbacks. They forced to hate Joel and Ellie. But no, not Joel. This game had soo much potential... They ruined everything. And they like we did not expect that much hate Really. At the First game killed that doctor with flamethrower, I did not think a second. They forced to kill him and then, Joel be like. '' Oh, I killed a man, hope they don't have daughters or something.'' They forced something, we all did. Ellie killed the pregnant woman they don't give us a change ıt was cinametic and then they expected Hate Ellie look what she done. Oh look Joel he killed his father what would you do? Hate Joel bruh. They tried this in Uncharted 4 to Sam like he showed up like nothing and let's go he is my brother where he been for 4 games, but they ruined in The Last Of Us Part II . Second game that I was hyped after God Of War. God Of War was a masterpiece but not this one. Joel said Literally in The game '' See, There was a sequal, Wasn't as good.'' Good old tricky Joel. The second director said we open the gap for The Last Of Us Part III, please don't do that just don't ruin anymore. Naught Dog was a hero all his games was unique, absolutely amazing but not this one. One more, The Walking Dead Season 1. Joel was Lee, Ellie was clementine. Lee died, Joel died. Telltale make a incredible storyline even the Season 4, they don't created a Netflix story they created a masterpiece. No more things to say.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tried multiple times to play this. It's painful and completely unbearable. Considering how great the original is and the time taken for the sequel, its comfortably the biggest disappointment in my history as a gamer. What happened to Joel was an absolute abomination and a disservice to the fans. I can't relate to the jackedup golf playing lunatic. Great mechanics and graphics are the only 2 redeeming qualities. Naughty dog really screwed the pooch with this, I simply won't buy anything they've had a hand in developing from now on. Expand

I really enjoyed the part as only playing as Ellie and the way joel went out is absolutely pathetic .your telling me he went 30 years surviving the apocalypse to die like this by some shemale built like hulk and having him trust them no way would he be dumb enough to trust random ppl he met even though he knew ppl would come to kill him . Playing 10 hours as the shemale Abby is more of a waist of time then learning calculus 10 hours all predictable . Never less how the hell is tommy dumb enough to leave a map on the ground near 2 bodies of where they are staying straight bull . The ending is even worse letting the shemale go leaving me feeling unaccomplished like I sat their for 30 hours trying to get justice for joel who made the first game great Then letting her go pathetic whoever wrote this game I could be 5 years old and make a better game the graphics were good but on give a care in the world about good graphics when u make awful game .this game was so false advatised it’s pathetic Anita the person who wrote this game must be the biggest feminist trying to force a gay character in the zombie apocalypse no tome for that at all and killing of all the men to make this game abt female empowerment straight bull . If we played the game a tommy it’d be better whole game is just so bad if we killed Abby the game would be 4 hours f we played without the Abby part 6 and if we the whole story was changed to where joel was still the main character 8 game is just one of the worst naughty dog games I’ve seen in my life saddest part of the game is when u kill the dog not even joel death because that is just straight stupid the best part is when u go exploring with Joel . This game is like 2k18 2k17 is the best one (last of us 1) the next one 2k18 is so bad I would never load the game up and was what made me stop playing 2k for 2 years this would be the last of us 2 .

Graphics amazing, Story sucks, after 7 years of waiting and wanting a sequel to my favorite PS3 game of all time, I get this, and it destroys all my faith in ND :( They done Joel trashy, and made Abby a very unlikable person, and toward the end all the killing and death is for nothing, they destroy Ellie, and she is broken and loses everything and doesn't even get her revenge for Joel's death, they should have given you a choice to kill Abby or spare her, such crap! Yea i get it revenge is bad, but the first game and it's DLC was fun to play, this game is not!!! Expand

I wanted to love this game, I wanted to love it so much that I ignored all of the leaks and the early reviews/opinions. LOU was and still is one of my favourite games and I think one of the greatest games ever made.

Unfortunately that was not the case for the second installment, putting the politics aside it was a far cry from what the first game managed to achieve. Yes the graphics and gameplay is better, that is not in question but instead of using those improvements in gameplay it lacks the deep engaging heartfelt story beats that naughty dog managed to perfect in the first. At no point did I feel connected to any of the characters in fact I dident even recognise the ones I knew so well. I found myself bored at various stages of the game, just playing to get through it, this was not an enjoyable experience in any way. It's not a zero out of ten and it's certainly not a ten, anyone that rates it that highly or low have no credibility whatsoever. The last of us part two is an average game trying to be a masterpiece and it tries too hard and fails equally as hard. There is a political side to this game that strangely has absolutely nothing to do with this game but of society. If you feel you need to bully people into buying a game or liking a game you are a despicable human being much like some of those characters displayed in this game ironically. It's okay not to like an idea or a creation, it's also okay to love it.

In conclusion this game does nothing different, nothing unique apart from highlight the flaws in the personalities of the people who review it, create it and play it.

The game tries to "make you feel compassionate" with Abby but for me who played TLoU and had "feelings" for old characters this did not work. Otherwise the plot is OK, sometimes too complicated Expand

However it actually revolves around finding inner peace and forgiveness. This is a good concept executed poorly, as I could not relate to any of the characters; Abby is a muscular woman that can and WILL break you in bed, Ellie has become an arrogant little ****. I have to admit killing Joule made me sad, however it is understandable because it’s a major plot event. I have to admit I played purely for the gameplay, but even then my gameplay was ruined because I had to stare awkwardly at the screen next to my mom BOTH times when Ellie and Dina was getting pretty handsy AND when Abby got porked from behind...therefore I give it a lowish score...The sex was unwanted and uncalled for. An extremely good-looking game with tight controls and a fun gameplay loop that suffers from writers too concerned about specific characters and not enough about others. An example: Jesse, a new character that (contrary to the opinion of many) I actually quite liked and was made out to be a very important part of the story was killed, and nobody gave a damn. The ending was clearly the way it was exclusively to ensure the game could have a sequel if they so wanted to, which is alright, but considering Ellie killed hundreds of people just to get a shot at Abby, had her on the ropes, then decided to let her go? **** writing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Functionally, the game plays well. It’s more or less the exact same gameplay, crafting, and combat as the first game with some tweaks. It looks great, for the most part. No glitches or bugs, so that’s always a relief. Unfortunately, the story structure didn’t do it for me. I understand what they attempted to do, I respect the ambition, but the way the story unfolded made me unable to empathize with Abby or anyone she was involved with.

There must have been another way to accomplish this by telling the story in a different order or by maybe not revealing who murdered Joel exactly or why. Then slowly revealing it as the game went on. I’m not sure, but realizing that I was going to have to play 10-15 hours of this game as Joel’s murderer wasn’t a fun time. I wanted to kill Abby a few hours in and I wanted to kill Abby at the very end. Nothing changed for me. I cheered when Tommy ended Manny. Maybe I’m the psychopath.

Also, was it just me or was this game less scary and tense compared to the first one? I guess because it’s literally the exact same enemy selection as the original with a variation of a new one and a new boss. Were Stalkers new? Two new enemies if so. Also docked some points for being forced to kill normal uninfected dogs. Petty? Maybe. I don’t remember if I had to kill dogs in the original. I put about 60 hours into it since I did New Game+ and got all the collectibles.

It’s a really well made game, but as I described above, it was a really unfulfilling story and left me never wanting to see another game in this franchise again. Which is too bad because the original is one of the best games I’ve ever played. I kind of wish this story had never been told and this game never made now.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
