I avoided spoilers at all cost before playing the game, and I'm very glad that I did. The game is great, even if some parts of the story could be a bit more fleshed out (especially towards the end). Hard to comment much more on the story without adding spoilers. The game will upset you, and that is what makes it great, but I definitely recommend you to push through. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

i don't why, but this game is brilliant. When u buying TLOU2 u have a misterious music, beautifull and unpredictable story. So, my vision of this game:
    Music: 11/10
    Story: 10/10

Gameplay: 9/10. yes, sometimes boring, but i think that this game only about story

From gameplay point of view it's old good first part with new (for this specific game, but not industry) gameplay mechanics, improved enemies behaviour and some other refreshments. Graphic is really something. There are very beautiful and breath-taking scenes, dark places with great attention to details and you can really see that every location was created by people, who care about their work and put their soul in it.

And for those who cares about the plot...

There are really two opportunities (and sort of two "camps"):
    - If you're really feel extremely connected to the characters of "The last of us" and you want to see basically the same story, which the first part had, but new one - then you'll most possibly will join all of those, who are disappointed and angry and better not to start to play this game at all.
    - If you want just to follow the story wherever it'll bring you, putting yourself into game character(s) shoes, then you probably will... maybe not really "enjoy", but understand what this game was aiming to make you understand

As for me, I can get why people got so upset, but that doesn't justify dumping the game in bad scores at the release date. This game really deserves better.
Game events are not going by the straight line, as it was in the first part.
The whole tone of the game is way darker than it was in the first part.
It is very different game and let's just stop the comparison here.
This game is making you to think about things, which you maybe not really facing directly every day, but it's happening all around. This game calls to very controversial feelings, and if you're trying to imagine yourself in a certain situation, presented in the game, it would be really hard to take any side or say "this is right, and that is wrong" - pretty much how it is in life. Funny, but those moments, which are causing so many people "hate" TLOU2 actually my favourite, because you believe it, you can believe that decisions are not made "as they should be", but as REAL PERSON can make them, considering all of the elements.
The only thing I would agree with is that some of the minor characters are not described for us enough, taking into account that this is pretty long game. Just some small details, which will fulfil the image are missing, but in general motivation of every one is quite clear.
I also would say that there are quite some dialogs, which are "just to be there", not bringing too much value, as well as most of the notes, which you'll find during exploration.
But does all the minuses making it the bad game? Not at all.
It's really good game. Quite overrated by critics and very under-rated by disappointed fans.

Releasing to universal critical acclaim in 2013, TLOU was a watershed moment in videogame storytelling. A mature and thoughtfully told tale that culminated in much discussed ending, which perfectly capped off what was originally intended to be the end of the franchise. No mean feat for a medium all too often derided for the quality of its writing. Now, 7 years later, Naughty Dog and Sony decided to re-examine that ending with Part II, a direct sequel to the first game. Described by Naughty Dog as “a game about hate”, TLOU2 is a brutal tale of revenge and redemption and how violence begets violence. And it is brutally violent, not only in the way the story is told but in the moment to moment gameplay too. A great deal of effort has gone into the brutality of the death animations and the truly harrowing sounds of an enemy choking on their own blood, all in an effort to make you feel the weight of your actions, so much so that Naughty Dog has even given names and faces to the many enemies that you violently murder over the course of the game. This means that the game isn’t always what you’d describe as fun, but that isn’t the point. TLOU2 is first and foremost a character study, but as much as this game is about hate it’s also about perspective. One of the biggest differences from the first game TLOU2 is that Naughty Dog goes to great lengths to contextualise Ellie’s actions as well examine the human cost of this very inhumane quest. In order to achieve this TLOU2 introduces a lot of new characters, the most prominent of which being Abby; the focal point of Ellie’s quest for revenge. In an unexpected move, not only is Abby a playable character but just under half the game is spent in her shoes, and it’s her sections that really elevate the game above what it might otherwise have been. When I reflect on TLOU2 as a complete vision, it is indeed the masterpiece it has been touted as but it’s one that doesn’t let its audience in easily. It’s a bleak and pessimistic revenge story that takes until the halfway point to really build momentum, but by the end it’d ripped my heart out and brought a tear to my eye.

The death of Joel was hard to accept but it was necessary to create the emotion for the characters and the audience for the rest of story.

The ending of Ellie losing everything, is a great counterpoint to her thinking that because she couldn’t die creating a vaccine that her life didn’t matter and was meaningless to her losing everything the more she tries to get revenge. Even losing her fingers so she can’t play guitar which is her last solid link to Joel was inspired.

Loved the game, 100% doesn’t deserve the hate it’s getting

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I do not get how this games got such a bad critc. Of course it is maybe a bit unexpected what happens and how the game is build up. But i think that makes it even more great! i really felt that the game direcotr and everybody who worked on this really makes himself much thoughts. And in my opinion this is a mile stone. Maybe it is ahead of its time but that is more what get me shocked. Because i did not think that so many people are that " conservative" . I would find it less good when you would just get a game like every other game on the market, where you play the "good" guys and kill the "bad " guys... this gets boring and moreover it is not the truth. This game shows what really matters. That every Person in this world has a diffrent story and so a diffrent background and opinion and diffrence in his actions. I am so proud of naughty dog that they really are able to surpass the first game. Like with only a little bit more game mechanics but a really much better ground idea! i think the most bad reviews are just maybe sad or sth like that. But that is what happens in life. It is not everything an happy end or a statisfying end for one person. It is always just subjectives.
So you will never make everybody happy but stay yourself and especially stand for yourself! and that is what naughty dog did. Awesome work! so much work to produce a masterpiece like this with this graphics and everything ! i am so happy that i am able to experience this awesome game in my lifetime. In my opinion it is a game that goes the important step into the right way. But like the game and everything else.... All depends from the View.
But to be honest in a game critic you eveluate the game and nobody can tell me that this is not a masterpiece (i mean just dont look at the story if you dont like it but the game mechanics alone are just over the top !nice!
So just think about it and imagine your own end or story that could happen and write it down. Use it for your experience but dont try to demand someones life work to get changed into your own ideas. Just accept the way naughty dog wants to present this.
So for me it is an awesome story with an awesome end and not just because i really love this game and the idea behind alle the games for this but also because it is just really nice made for me!
(especially this religious part so good and the brutallity.. it is so real, love it!)

Despite this problem, Naughty Dog got it right again by changing standards, establishing new characters, and creating a storyline as engaging as the first game. Another point is that yes, TLOU Part II discusses topics such as LGBT +, religious, political fanaticism and that is what makes it so real and so current. Despite the pandemic, we see that the main actors are humans and they are the ones who dictate the direction of society.

Well, now that I've played through the entire game, I figured I'd add my review to the pile. Let me preface by saying that I think both extremes of the fandom are wrong - this is not the worst sequel of all time that deserves a rating of 1 to 4 out of 10, but neither is it a generation-defining masterpiece that deserves all the critic accolades it got.

With that said, let's start with the good. For starters, the gameplay is great. In this regard, the game does what a sequel should do - it builds upon the solid foundation laid by the first title by expanding gameplay options in all directions. The encounters are very fun to play through, whether you choose to take a stealthy approach or gun everyone down, and they are improved heavily from the last game with better enemy AI, more enemy types and more actions available to the playable characters. Exploration is similarly improved from the last game, with more traversal options, and the development team truly outdid themselves with regards to map design - the post-apocalyptic environments are interesting to explore in times of peace, with large maps offering lots of nooks and crannies, filled with both collectibles and items necessary for survival, and the maps provide great venues for combat encounters, with the size and variety of areas giving hundreds of options to approach each encounter. In this category, the game deserves all the praise. In addition to that, it should come as no surprise that, just like every other Naughty Dog title preceding it, the game looks and sounds great. Just like the original game was on the PS3, the sequel is a swan song to the aging PS4 console, squeezing out everything that its technical capabilities can provide. To top it all off, the game is loaded with tiny immersive details that have been a staple of Naughty Dog games for years. From the gameplay perspective, the game is an absolute treat to play through.

Now let's get to the less favorable stuff. The story of the game that the fandom reacted so strongly towards, unfortunately does indeed disappoint. I won't get into spoiler details, but as a huge fan of the first game, I felt like the game mistreated the characters from the original game. And I feel like a large part of the fandom fallout is generated due to Naughty Dog failing to deliver on the promises made to players - namely, that they would tell a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. Throughout the game's marketing campaign, we the fans were assured that the studio understands how strongly people feel about these characters and that the second game would do them justice. Unfortunately, after playing the game, those promises now ring hollow. Despite trying to keep the review spoiler-free, I feel the need to warn any fans of the first game who might be reading this - the game's story trailers are extremely misleading. For one, if you are a fan of Joel, you should know that Joel plays a far smaller role in the game than the trailers would suggest. In addition to that, if you thought this would be Ellie's story first and foremost (something Naughty Dog also assured the players of in the interviews), know that that was also a lie, for the game has a new playable protagonist Abby. The biggest problems with the game's narrative happen due to Abby being kind of forced into it, pulling you out of Ellie's story at a climactic moment, and then spending a large portion of the game playing as the new protagonist instead. And while I felt that Ellie's story was somewhat weak as well, Abby's side of the story is that much weaker. In many ways it retreads a lot of ground from the first game, only doesn't manage to live up to it by a long shot.

The beauty of the first game was in large part due to its simplicity. It was a story of two very likable characters going on a journey together against all odds, and the bond they forged along the way. For the second game the developers clearly wanted to cast a wider net, but in the process, they seemingly forgot or consciously ignored what made people fall so much in love with the first one. While the scope of the second game's story, as well as its cast of characters, is larger than the last game, neither aspect feels as well-done as the first game. Ultimately, the game left me feeling empty that of all the possible ways of furthering the story of Joel and Ellie, they picked the one they did. And this being a story-heavy game, of course that is going to affect the rating a lot.

In the end, I would give this game an 6/10, with the disappointing nature of the story subtracting three points from what could have been a perfect 10/10 rating, and further subtracting one more point for Naughty Dog's blatantly deceptive marketing tactics. I feel like a lot of the backlash for this game could have been avoided if they had been upfront about the kind of direction they wanted to take the game in, instead of "subverting expectations" (god but I've grown to hate that phrase).

Unfortunately, many gamers were critical of the game's story, and this shows that they didn't understand the game because most games have an end that we like (completely stereotypical) and we don't expect to encounter such a story !! And that's too bad.
The game world is apocalyptic. Zombies are on the rise and humans are fighting each other, so anything can happen in this world. Playing instead of two people is a great idea so we don't just look at story from one side!!
Many friends give a score of 0 to game, which means they don't value the game they've been working on for so long, which I think is more of an emotional choice than a logical critique.
Finally, I hope we can understand the games and not just look at them as just a hobby.

The story got me just the way the developers were aiming for. I was so emotionally invested that the final fight was a real struggle. I pressed the button even tho I just wanted them to stop fighting. It took me a while to understand Ellies decision to setting out for Abby again and leaving her family behind. Graphics and the subtle facial animations were some of the best I've seen in videogames so far. My only complaint and the reason I give 9 instead of the full 10 points are the lengths in the second part. I was so tired of the landmarks in the distance...

В плане геймплея это тот же the last of us только с нововедениями.

I feel like many people misunderstood this game. Okay okay, hear me out. Joel's death was not unrespected and the story is not trash.

Tlou has always been in the more realistic side on the spectrum in dealing with human emotions and desicion making. Also, here, any bad thing can happen to anyone anytime. Soo, my take is that Joel's death was not bad writing, but simply just depressing. His death drives the story forward and also reminds us about the kind of world we're living in where it's not just sunshine and rainbows.

Is it unfair and ruthless? Yes, very. But that's real life man, you gotta wake up. Anddd that's my personal take on the game, I just rlly don't like people hating on things they don't completely understand

Naughty Dog has always pushed the boundaries in everything they’ve done, and while that means more high flying action coming from the Uncharted series, it means more heart wrenching moments for the Last of Us. The one thing I can tell people going into this is that Naughty Dog is not trying to appease you, they are trying to tell a story. A very good one at that. Characters will do things you don’t agree with and things will happen that will make you sad. It will make you question “Good vs. Evil”. It will make you think. Which is exactly what a good story should do. There’s so much hate surrounding this beautiful title that I needed to submit my own review. It just confuses me how people can love Game of Thrones for its brutal treatment of its characters and then hate this.
Graphics: Continues to impress. I had to stop and look at the environment more times then I’d like to admit. A beautiful recreation of apocalypse Seattle should floor any graphics buff.
Voice Acting: stellar performances from Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey will send shivers down your spine.
Gameplay: while expanding on the first game by adding going prone and more methods of traversal, my one gripe with the game is that at some encounters it would feel clunky. Quite a few frustrating moments were had when Ellie wouldn’t climb over something or would get stuck.

I have to start by saying I actually played and finished the game, I played it, I didn't just rate it because of some leaks or whatever. I hate all the hate this game got just because of some stupid leaks, the story is so good, it's so different then most games, the death of a character doesn't mean it's a bad story, stories evolve. Just play it.

Last of Us Part II builds upon everything that made the first title a gem of the PlayStation 3. The story telling may not be to everyone's taste as some narrative beats can miss the mark but the gameplay is incredibly satisfying and the quality of the performances and attention to detail is second to none.

A must play for any PlayStation 4 owner.

Nice combats and a difficulty that isn't too easy. The graphics in the game is probably 1:1 of uncharted 4 which is way better than the 95% of the titles on the ps4 system. The only downside with the game that I felt was:
-You can't pick up ammo from everyone you've killed even though they were holding a gun. -Sometimes the camera angle is a bit off and I'd like to be able to adjust it. It's always focusing more on the right side. I'd like everyone who likes good games to play this game. One of the best games ever made.

I've been waiting for this game since the release of "the last of us", I pre-ordered the first game as well as the second and I've been waiting for this game for seven years, I played the dlc "left behind" and followed the networks Neil Druckman and Naugthy Dog social media, trailers, podcasts, everything.
after the death of sarah, tess, marlene, i knew that naugthy dog's goal was not to make the characters immortal heroes but to report the reality of a post apocalyptic world, where everyone fights for their survival and that of their friends , a world where there are no heroes or villains and no one is safe. the game has a huge repercussion and now a fan base divided, because they did not understand what the game wanted to portray, but ignorant aside the Naugthy dog did, for me and for many the best game of the generation, a game that will be scary to lazy companies that promise and don't deliver, that just want to know about the profit of the game. The Last of Us Part II is a piece of art, in gameplay, animations, facial expressions, scenarios, the use of the environment and the improvement of the listening mode in relation to the first game, everything remained the same but everything was changed, and for the better, the game time is perfect, neither too much nor too little, the cutscenes are amazing, the dubbing even better, and the story, I confess, surprised me, made me cry as it made me laugh, but it is amazing, it’s real, it’s felt, I can’t have a single negative review for this game, besides the little variety of WLF’s and Serafitas models, but I understand that it’s a limitation of PS4, it’s old hardware, I expected a DLC or even a Standalone like "Left Behind" where the story of the joel could be worked out after Sarah's death, or about the discarded idea of the joel's girlfriend, but Neil Druckman has already said that he has no plans for it, I almost guess why. Many no longer remember but the HBO series of The Last of Us comes where these themes will probably be addressed. I would like to thank the Naugthy Dog team and Neil Druckman for this wonderful story that has marked the hearts of many and I wish you to continue to dedicate yourself to your projects, and that a new saga comes, with even more dedication.

For a game that is so divisive it is one of the most exciting and interesting experiences I’ve ever played through and experienced. The level design and character designs are beautiful, each level was created so carefully with so many options for movement and progression. AI saw an overhaul and they behave fairly realistic and create challenges (especially on hardest difficulty)

I can understand some gripes with the story not being what was expected. But this does not make Th e game a 3/10 , people need to get over their pre conceived notions and understand what this game is doing and saying with the story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is very good, and while I understand most of the criticism regarding the story, I don't agree with what seems to be a common thread in many of the reviews - that games have to deliver the story YOU want. It drags on a bit, loses a lot of momentum around the middle, where it is also hard to get invested. All of that is true, I think. That being said, the story isn't really that bad. Characters that I love made choices that I strongly disagreed with. It made me uncomfortable, but I also didn't feel pandered to, which I think is pretty valuable in this day and age. Some have objected that the game is SJW propaganda, but I think that's ridiculous, when you've actually played the game. There is a trans-person in the story as well as a couple of lesbians, but those aren't their defining traits. They are actually fully fleshed-out characters, and their presence doesn't make the story any less relatable to me, a straight white man. You can still disagree with all the story choices, characters and such, I guess, but I really feel you're missing the forest for the trees if you focus in on those aspects, and blow them out of proportion.

The game is absolutely visually stunning, the sound design is phenomenal and the acting lives up to the standard that Naughty Dog has set since the first Uncharted. The gameplay and mechanics are basically the same as last time around, but with a few added features and a bit more fluency. The story is pretty bleak, filled with unresolved conflicts and frustrating character choices - but it is perfectly coherent, in my opinion. And I kind of like that. It's a little messy. Like life mostly is. I get it, if that's not your cup of tea, but honestly, if you expected your characters to be heroes and have everything tied up neatly in a bow by the end, you weren't paying attention during the first game. I'd say it's solidly established what kind of people they are, and to the objections that "Joel/Ellie would never do that" I have to say I disagree. I'm dancing near spoiler territory here, but the argument seems to be that Joel would never be caught off guard as he does in this game. But that absolutely happens multiple times during the first one, so... That Ellie is different than the beginning of the first game is another one I've seen quite a lot. But those reviewers seem to forget the last two chapters of the first game, where she was severely traumatized more than once. Plus, she's a teenager now, so...

My point is, just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean it's out of character. If you want more static characters, you could play Uncharted, or something like that.

I sort of digested the experience of completing the game over about a week. I had to get my head around the story, and what it was supposed to show. It's not that it's particularly deep, but the criticism that the point of the story is "violence is bad" is laughably superficial. If that's what people took from it, by all means they should leave it a poor review, but honestly, the review-bombing makes these reviewers look like spoiled children. Grow up. Naughty Dog is under no obligation to make the game that you want. You're free to play something else. Stop screaming in the super market.

Obviously, you can voice your criticism and disagreement, but come on - do you honestly want the entertainment industry to give you exactly what you say you want, every time? That sounds incredibly boring, to me, even if the risk is to sometimes play through something about which you're not quite sure how you feel, as you're playing. Last of Us Part II takes a risk, and hopes you'll give it the benefit of the doubt and play along, to see where it ends. Personally, I think it was more than worth it to follow the story through to the end. I felt sort of as I did after the first one, or after ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, back in the PS2 days - which is to say, it wasn't pleasant. At least not at first. But after mulling it over for a few days, I felt the same sort of understanding, I think. And those kinds of experiences are precious, at least to me. If that wasn't your experience, can I suggest that you either went into it looking for a fight, so to speak, or that it simply just wasn't for you?

Reasonable people can disagree, but if you do, may I at least suggest that review-bombing should be beneath you? If you think it sucks, play however much you want and review it honestly.

Normally, it's probably about 9 or 9,5 for me, but I'm leaving it a ten to balance out the bombers a little, even if it's just a tiny amount.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, English isn't my first language so please don't be that strict with my use of words.
I really don't understand how the user rating have got a such insulting low score. I would guess most of the people who are hating haven't even played the game and just watched the leaked cut scenes or a let's play of it.

Anyways, I don't think we have to talk about the graphics. The game just looks beautiful, especially the light, the spores the water, the wet clothes and so on.
The soundtrack and in general the sounds are really on point as well.
The game design is good too. The combination of stealth, fighting and discovering is well done and there are a lot of secret dialogs and cut scenes which are all optional. Now to the probably most controversial part.
The story is in my opinion also really great. The game tells a story about hate and the urge of revenge and where hate leads you. I loved playing the flashbacks where you really could see how the relationship between Joel and Ellie (or Abby and her dad) went on after the “open end” in the first part. I also loved playing as Abby because there you realized for the first time that from her point of view, all she has done made sense. She isn't the stereotypical villan. She even helped Lev and Yara, even though she didn't have to. She is just a girl who has lost her dad in a pretty **** up world. When you played her, you realized that Ellie isn't really different from Abby. Abby lost her dad and wanted revenge, so she killed Joel. Not Ellie or Tommy, just Joel. Ellie than lost her father figure and also wanted revenge. So she chased the group of people who has done it. There is also some beautiful character development when Ellie realized what she just had done and started crying and her hands started shaking intensively. Then, when Abby finds Owen and Mel dead, it's also just a beautifully made moment when she goes down on her knees, crying and vomiting. What she does after this also just made sense from her point of view. The only reason I'm giving only 9/10 is the decision Ellie makes after she lives with Dina and JJ on the farm: why would she leave the woman she loves and a child she loves just to finally kill Abby even though she already said she doesn't want to go after her again. But if you ignore this one mistake in the story, it all makes sense. After she cuts Abby down from the pole she realized that Abby really cared about Lev and that she is also just a person in this **** up world who wants to be happy with her friends/family. Only because she had a "flashback" of Joel dying, Ellie choose to fight Abby, but in the end she couldn't kill her because she realised how "human" she also is.
From their own point of view, the other ones are the bad guys while they just want to survive with their friend but in the end, they're all the same.

The combat was intense and a pleasure to do, it didn’t get repetitive except same lane every time I’d grab an enemy. The weapons where fun and different, I also like upgrading them which gave me another reason to explore and find parts. The upgrades where pretty simple but that’s ok for a game like this.

The level design was top notch, I enjoyed exploring the world, finding notes telling stories from the past and giving clues to hidden loot and safes, combinations. The world is pretty big which multiple routes you can take and different areas to combat in. There was a small section in the game that was more open world where you had to use a map and you checked off areas and building you have explored, I really enjoyed that. Which it would of continued through the game but in a linear story game I can understand why that would be hard to do. The story is really good. The first part you really care about what is happening and why you’re doing what you are doing. It’s intense sad and at times scary, you care about these people and you worry for them. Then there is a change about 1/3 through. At first I didn’t like it but the more I played through the more it grew on me, the characters grew on me and I was able to see things through a different light than before. 2/3 through the game I wanted it to end, not because I wasn’t enjoying the game or story but because I actually cared and worried about the characters. Don’t want to spoil anything but I really enjoyed the story. I saw some of the hate the game was getting before I got it. I kept waiting for the story to get bad and it didn’t. A part around the middle I thought it got bad but I kept playing and it wasn’t in hindsight. Most of the complaints generally don’t make sense, nothing Social justicy was shoved in my face. There is a trans side character but his sexuality is only mentioned once. Ellie is gay but that’s something brought up in the first game and DLC it didn’t and shouldn’t of bothered anyone then. The story is great but I can see how some might not like aspects of it but hey this is the Last Of Us it’s a dark and sad world it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. This game kept me glued to it till the end. It brought out a lot of different emotions while playing, it had events that stuck with me for awhile and kept me thinking. It has been awhile sense I couldn’t wait to get off work to play a game, you know how the day keeps dragging because you got a great game at home waiting for you. I give it a 10/10.

I have to confess that the first night after the game I was full of thoughts and could hardly sleep.
I understand the frustration of many players about the story because it doesn't work for everyone. You have to bring a good dose of empathy and reflection with you to accept the intended change of perspective. I am glad that it worked for me and in the end didn't hate or prefer anyone.

But now for the review: The gameplay is known from the last part and has been improved by a few nuances. So if you found TloU 1 good, you will also enjoy it here. The graphics are probably the zenith of the Playstation 4 era, but the depth of detail is very outstanding and makes every place look organic and real. The sound is phenomenal and sometimes makes you shudder. Animations are the best I've seen so far. Rarely is a movement unnatural and all animations fit together.
The AI is probably the weakest point of the game and sometimes made a fight too easy for me. However, I had 2 places in the game where I really noticed the AI negatively. Most of the time, the AI is more challenging than in the last part.
In contrast to the first part, the story is more tragic and melcholic with little room for hope. However, it is also authentic and well written.

All in all, I really liked the game and I would be very happy if we get a third part. And maybe this time with hope as a theme.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will agree that i was NOT enjoying Abby's storyline for the first 1hr and half...but i also was tired as hell and angry that i was forced to play this side of the story because i was so sure it was going to feel SO FORCED on me. Like Naughty dog was screaming "PLEASE LIKE HER". Long story short, i started to actually like her from the lev and Abby go to hospital part and from then on i liked her. If you didn't like her at all, that means your still hanging on to the anger you felt when Joel was killed, and thats okay of course, no one is saying if you didn't like her that means you're a bigoted sexist **** or sum stupid **** like that. That only tells me how much you loved Joel and tbh that makes me like you even more because he's one of my favourite characters of all time. The only difference here is the game is showing Ellie and Abby ridding themselves of their anger to have found clarity, I'll get into clarity later. Now the point where i thought it was ABSOLUTELY GENIUS was where it is Abby vs Ellie and you play as Abby after killing Jesse AND Tommy (Supposedly) so then I'm feeling anger going " What the **** am i doing playing as her right now" and your main objective is to kill ellie. At this point i couldn't get enough, this game was forcing me to do something i didn't want to do and made me feel more conflicted than i ever have while playing a game Mind you i don't really feel emotional during games. I couldn't give less of a **** when Sarah died so the fact that the game was able to elicit this type of response from me was shocking to me and i ****ing loved it. So When it gets down to the last part of the cutscene where Abby breaks Ellie's arm and Dina rushes in and cuts up Abby and Gets shot in the shoulder with an arrow by lev then abby smashes Dina's head against the floor and is about to cut her throat and is told that she is pregnant AND SHE SAYS GOOD...i really felt and understood Abby's anger when i looked at it from her perspective. The symbolism between the 2 stories is SO uncanny. Abby's dad is killed because of JOEL'S decision to save Ellie. Joel Kills a Father. Abby's revenge story starts. Obsessive behaviour ensues, She tracks him down and kills Joel. Abby kills a father. Gets most of her friends killed because of this decision. Ellie's revenge story starts. Obsessive behaviour ensues. Ellie kills a Mother AND a Father. It deteriorates the relationships she has with her friends that ends up with them killed or leaving her. These points all started because of Joel's LOVE for Ellie. Ellie's revenge is sparked from her love for Joel. Abby's revenge is sparked from her love for her dad. Abby carrying Lev literally mirrors Joel carrying Ellie out of the hospital to the point of lev postioning her arm out like ellie's in part 1. ABBY'S DAD is WILLING to let the surgery happen, ELLIE'S DAD is REFUSING to let the surgery happen. Abby sees LEV and SPARES Dina, Ellie sees JOEL and SPARES Abby. These 2 stories are exactly the same thing...2 sides of the same coin. It ultimately all leads back to Joel, One person LOVES joel, one person HATES joel... and the lengths they are driven to because of the extreme experience of these 2 emotions results in both of them having lost virtually everything. To be clear, this isn't a "Whoever sees this and still thinks the story is bad is a ****ing dumbass who can't use their brain to understand complex storytelling" this ain't it. We can like different things, and To Me... this story is a masterpiece. Expand

At times this game is a slog and a mess. On the surface it is a simple, occasionally patronising and consistently didactic story about violence and revenge. But look closer and you'll find a groundbreaking odyssey across a broken girl's psyche, a heartbreaking tale of grief, and a staggeringly mature and complex meditation on self-forgiveness.

Those saying this is a perfect game are ignoring its dramatic and structural shortcomings, and the thematic confusion it ties itself in. But those saying it's a disaster have completely missed the point, and I feel never engaged with this story the way it demands. Because it asks a lot from you, empathetically and intellectually, and that's okay. Art can do whatever it likes; artists do not owe 'fans' anything. And if you're not willing to give this story the chance it deserves, that's okay too; similarly, players owe the artists nothing. But I would absolutely recommend trying. Not everything here works, but the bits that do stand as some of the greatest writing and bravest artistry in video game history - especially the ending, which re-contextualises the entire piece and lands like a sledgehammer.

This is a challenging work, the kind you get out of what you put into, and that's not what everyone will be looking for. But after all the pain and frustration and even the stints of boredom, as the credits rolled I was so, so glad I played it. It is an extraordinarily brave and unique piece of art, an audacious script that attempts to wrangle the kind of internal processes that are so seldom written about, and a brutal, tactile video game. In the end it attempts to do too much and ties itself it knots, but that doesn't erase its frequent spots of brilliance. All considered, The Last of Us: Part II is a singular experience that I will never, ever forget.

I undertand the game does not provide a expected ending. It takes away from the player the pleasure of revenge, and leaves a not very good taste in the mouth after.

But a narrative that people some don't like, is different from a narrative porly writen, and this game is very well written.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the GOTY for sure, and another reason I am a proud Sony PlayStation owner/supporter. Every game cannot please everyone, but this one is surely attracting negative feedback because (a) the main character is a lesbian, (b) half of the game is spent playing as the "enemy" Abby, who is a very built female with almost no chest, and (c) there is a high-profile sub-plot featuring a transgender child. When you first control Abby in Wyoming I thought to myself, she seems like the enemy - but I wasn't sure. Obviously that gets cemented pretty quickly as the story unfolds.

Like some of the critics, I was not surprised by what happened to Joel. He single-handedly killed a lot of people (and probably destroyed the Fireflies), and indirectly killed thousands, if not millions (it's unclear how many survivors there are). That said, I always justified his actions because I would do the same for my daughter, and - as I recall - the procedure was not even guaranteed to work. I absolutely love Ellie's reaction when she finds out, but I also buy into Joel being convinced he did the right thing.

From Abby's perspective, she killed his Dad, probably destroyed the Fireflies (her extended family) and stopped the cure in its tracks. He's the villain in her eyes. Sure, the Fireflies are "bad" because they kill people, but so did Joel and Ellie. Everyone with a cause believes theirs is right. No one (except truly evil people) actually believe they are the evil ones.

When it became clear to me I'd be playing as Abby during the same 3 days in Seattle it took for Ellie to find her, I was in a bit of shock. I didn't want to play as her because I was behind Ellie's story. But wake up people, THAT IS THE POINT HERE. Naughty Dog wants us to be uncomfortable. They want us to not care for Abby AT ALL. There's no need for backstory because you are not supposed to understand or feel for her at this point. All the people saying the storytelling here is bad are fools... it's actually brilliant.

Think about it; no one got mad because there are chapters in Game of Thrones or the Expanse novels (or shows) that are through the eyes of the supposed "villains." Heck, people even grew to like Jamie Lannister (or pick whoever else you liked, like the Hound or Daenarys). This is no different. In a video game, the only way to show you things through another character's eyes is to force you to play as her. Kudos to Naughty Dog for having the balls to do it.

By the end of Abby's story, I understood her and felt for her. I wouldn't blame either of them for ending the other's life. I honestly didn't know which way it was going to go (kudos again to Naughty Dog here), and I won't spoil the final outcome here. All I will say is it ended the right way, even if it doesn't give you warm and fuzzies - just as I felt after the first game.

One final note. I think it's sad that gamers expect female protagonists to all look and feel like Lara Croft. I don't feel as if Naughty Dog is pushing an agenda so much as they're acknowledging there is diversity in the world. Joel wasn't comfortable when he realized that Ellie is a lesbian. Abby didn't understand Lev's situation at first. It's OK to not understand or to be uncomfortable, but are you really going to slam a game because it's chosen to make its characters more like actual people? Does the main character have to be a white male or a big-busted female to get positive reviews? If so, that's just sad.

Was this game as good as the first? No, probably not. Sequels seldom are. But was it more of solid Naughty Dog gameplay, visuals and story? Hell yes. I can't wait to play through it again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is a good game. It is not as good as part one, but it still has amazing moments. Yes, there are plot inconsistencies. And yes, it is controversial in its design choices and way of storytelling. But it is not as bad as early user scores seem to indicate.

If you are as lost as me in the whole controversy, just wait until the price drops and then make up your own mind. Just don't believe the hate - you could miss out on something very good here.

Overall, I must give Naughty Dog kudos for the fact that they tried to make the player see the opposite site of the generally accepted game mechanic of killing random people repeatedly, never asking if it’s necessary or justified.
For almost everybody else in the game, Joel and Ellie are the villains, first robbing humanity of a cure, then killing innocent people for their selfish reasons.

The game could have been an outstanding example of showing how morality is a matter of perspective by placing two equally likable characters against each other, leaving the player in an empathy catch 22. But certain character design choices prevented that from happening.

In the end the game is not consequent in following it's own relentless standards. The ending feels surprisingly ineffectual. It should have just gone all in, leaving the character and player alone with nothing but grief and emptiness. But it’s hard to build another sequel on that, I suppose.

If you are into big production great-looking, plot-driven games, you shouldn't miss this one.
But you should also know: if you are looking for a realistic stealth shooter or pioneering inventions in story telling – this is not it.

My Honest Review after being more or less off the Internet to avoid Last of Us Part 2 spoilers.

Writing a sequel to the Last of Us was always going to be a tough one. On the one hand I was never able to imagine a story that did not have Ellie and Joel as we know and love them front and Center. And on the other hand I could not imagine a repetition of the first game´s story and themes that did not fall flat in comparison to the first.
The Story Naughty Dog did end up telling in Part 2 however is unlike any I have ever seen or experienced in this way before in any medium. It does not care about what you might want from the story but instead forces you on an emotional roller-coaster full of trauma, despair and hatred but also cracks of light, laughter and love that shine through a damaged world full of damaged people.
It is by far the most morally grey video-game I have ever played, forcing you to reflect and empathise even when you don´t want to or at first feel unable to.

It is at times suppose to be an uncomfortable experience and while there are many reasons for the insanely negative reviews this game is getting from Users (even hours after the Game released) I believe it is this uncomfortable reflection the game demands of you which is not easy or fun for everyone. It´s not what they wanted and therefore they don´t give it a chance.
But if you do let go of the story that you might have had in your head for years and give it a fair shot, you will find that this game will move you and make you think in ways you might not have expected.

As someone who loved the first game and somehow managed to stay spoiler free I think The Last of Us Part 2 is a Masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rarely do reviews, but for this game I had to write one. For gamers who are looking forward to play this game based on the reviews, I would suggest not to do so otherwise you would be missing out one of the finest games ever.

One observation that I had is how the game's user score kept improving consistently. About a week or so before writing this, the user score was 3.7 and now after 10 days it has improved already to 4.8. This gives an indication how premature those initial negative reviews were. A lot of those reviews might have been made with out even playing/watching the full game. Here's a detailed review for different sections below.

Graphics and visuals: 10/10. Simply can't expect any better than this in current console. Few of the areas looked amazing such as haven, the village, the jungle, the bridge e.t.c.

Gameplay: 8/10. The gameplay is amazing. The stealth aspect is also wonderful. Still I am giving it an 8 because of one reason. That is how the game forces you to play as different characters in the moments of a conflict. For example in the initial fight between Ellie and Abby you are forced to play as Abby and try to kill Ellie. Since by that time Ellie is already such a favorite character, you might not enjoy those few moments.

Level designs: 10/10. To me it has even surpassed the first part. There are many new kinds of infected such as stalker, shamblers, weird new bosses. All that added to the excitement and intensity of these fights.

Story: 8/10. No matter how disappointed you might be after the death of Joel, there is a very good chance you would still like the story for how it is if you go with an open mind about it. Of course, to some people killing Joel in such a way so early in the game would mean end of the game. But to me the story that they put was still good and interesting. I also enjoyed how they organized the whole story telling by switching between characters. One weak point I felt about the story is how easily Abby kills her wolf-mates when she's fighting against them with Levy. Same goes for Yara as well. But of course, desperate times. Despite these the story is still amazing'

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is beautiful in more ways than one. You do have to go into it with an open mind though, or you're doomed from the start. So many people that are team Joel/Ellie just can't seem to fathom that they aren't always right. That actions have consequences. The story is haunting and heartbreaking. I don't understand people saying there are plotholes. Joel has been living in Jackson and trading with strangers for 4 years now, it makes sense than Tommy would introduce the both of them to a group of friends of a woman they just saved. People are being stupidly picky.

I loved the story in a way that you can love something that tears you to shreds. It is in no way a feel good game, at least for me. But it's honest and raw and a different story than one i've ever played. Yes, i'm sorry we lost Joel, but if you knew who Joel was, you could see why he was such a target. I enjoyed getting to know Abby and her life and i understand why she did what she did. In the end both Ellie and Abby lose way more than they gain and that's true in real life as well when people get so utterly focused on revenge.

The game play is beautiful. The new mechanics - going prone, swinging from ropes, breaking glass as new way of entering, new crafting objects, the environment (omg i love ferns and long grass!!!!!). All fun and enjoyable. I plan on enjoying my NG+ and many replays after that. Thank you ND for another great game!!!

It's understandable why users tend to hate this game, all coz of the 2013 game and what made us feel with Joel and Ellie. Easily destroyed and setting a different perspective about them, letting everyone know that they're not the heroes of the story. That's pretty close to what real humans are, so it's a good decision to make even if many users don't like it. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
