This is just about as disappointing as the sequel trilogy for Star Wars, throw away everything good from before, and try to force people to be happy that you destroyed the beautiful original, graphics and music were great. Very disappointing that my favorite character died when acting out of character, early in the game, I would rather have seen him die at a better turning point in the game. I was really hopeful for this game, but now I'm disgusted.… Expand

    This game literally plays out like a fan fiction. It’s unbelievable Neil Druckman wrote the first game, as the second is nothing like it, nor is any respect given to the world or characters it’s in. Though it may look beautiful and play better than the original, the story is possibly one of the worst and most disappointing in gaming history.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is mechanically amazing. The designers and programmers have earned their pay and then some. The story is held together on the good will and solid story telling of the first game. And then quickly destroyed with pandering.

    Many people have said the blatant SJW pandering made the game's story weak and filled it with plot-holes. I disagree, its not that the SJW crap killed the story, SJW issues can be brought into a game with good story telling and plot/character development. its was the writer's need to interject SJW pandering into the game that caused them to tell a good story very very poorly...just like Star Wars The Last Jedi, Han Solo, Ghostbusters 2016 and on and on and on. These could have been amazing movies, but they made it all about the SJW and now all about the story, which just so happened to have alphabet people in it. If it as done that way....many more people could have gotten behind this story line.

    Examples are :
    1.) Not forgiving the guy who genuinely apologized for a snide comment made while he was drunk when he tried to make amends.
    2.) Forgiving the trans char who killed Joel because the writers didn't want to have a trans char killed off. (They haven't said this is why....but we all know this is why)
    3.) The trans char getting raw-dogged like thats how it happens, ...its not. But it can happen when a biological male takes a biological female. It' can't happen that way with biological male on male.
    4.) The trans char speaking in a clearly biological female's feminine voice....no amount of hormones, which weren't being taken anyway, would cause that.
    5.) The awkward lesbian char development.
    6.) The way males and females interact is too.....PC OLICE in nature, that's not how they interact, that is how SJW's wish/think they interact, but its not and likely never will be.
    7.) The over all amount of these topics in the story cut scenes. It just doesn't need to be all SJW all the time. It could have been done with more authenticity and without the need to make the Lesbian/Trans...THE STORY LINE.

    Overall, not a bad game, just another great game killed by the need to make SJW the story, thereby degrading the actual story.Any version three of this game with the trans char is going to be dead on arrival.    … Expand

    I wanted to like it so much. The first game is one of my all time favorites. The wonderful mixture of gameplay and story really sucked you in and you became a part of the game. Not here. The focus is solely on story which would be fine if the story was good but it's not. It's so shallow and predictable it's like watching a really poor movie.     This game like the first part is a master piece. The story get in touch with your emotions, the dynamics are new and fresh, you reconnect with the old characters and create a bond with the new ones. I encourage to everybody to play this game, but not before playing the first part. This is a gem, this kind of game only appears every decade and the 2020 is own by The Last of Us Part ll

    I enjoyed the gameplay very much, Ellie is very flexible, during the fight, she could evade, and strike back, this is also impressive and all of the weapons are very good, the silencer is great, the bow very useful, even more than Joel’s bow

    Story The story has a very big plot hole on it,
    - Joel the experienced veteran man, survived many events, always be careful and very hard to trust someone, He just gave his name to a stranger who he has just met without knowing their background? Like walk in the park and introduce themselves, it doesn’t make any sense at all and because of that, it leads to his death, this is a very big plot hole

    - Then you played as Ellie to go all the way for revenge, kills so many people that did nothing to her, finally just to let that person who killed Joel live? (This kind of understandable if you really try to think that the killer spared Dina so Elli would want to stop all of the revenge and let the killer go)

    - The worst of all, you have to play as Joel’s killer for 8 hours, 8 long hours that I have to play as her, at least you should have given an option if the player wants to play as the killer or not

    I played the last of us part 1 maybe more than 20 times but for the last of us part 2, I don’t think I can go through that again, especially the part that I have to play as Abby(Joel’s killer)

    In conclusion - Good gameplay, - Great graphic,

    The story was just terrible, was i supposed to feel bad for abby for the ten minutes she was a child. For one thing i did not like when she killed joel in the most coward way of killing him like seriously people save you and you shoot him in the knee. Secondly the fact that druckmans self insert was a complete piece of trash spitting on him did not help.     Naughty Dog was famous for one thing and one thing only. Their stories. With this game, they have lost that claim to fame.
    Without going into spoilers, the entire set of main characters comes off as unlikable, the plot that drives their actions forward is so simplistic a highschooler could have written it, and the dialogue is just... bad. There's simply nothing left to feel attached to    Naughty Dog was famous for one thing and one thing only. Their stories. With this game, they have lost that claim to fame.

There's simply nothing left to feel attached to after the first couple of hours, when you realise the characters you came to love in the previous game are either not the same anymore, or not there at all.
    So, once you take the narrative elements out of the equation, what's left?
    Predictably, not much. The gameplay is the same affair we've been seeing delivered by Naughty Dog since the first Uncharted, i.e. mediocre AI taking pot-shots at you from behind chest high walls, while you try to do the same to them. The "stealth" is equally unimpressive.
    Motion capture also felt off at places, which is actually weird given the budget and development time this game was afforded. You'd think for a flagship franchise like this, they'd have taken more care to avoid entering the uncanny valley every time a character opened their mouth.
    And to finally say something positive, and justify those 2/10 points I gave it, the graphics are pretty damn good. If you want to take a glimpse at what the next gen games are going to look like, you should take a look at this game. It really does look amazing.

    So in conclusion, I can only recommend this game if you fetish is staring at stellar quality graphics. If your priorities lie anywhere else, you'll only be dissapointed.    … Expand

    The gameplay...OMG THE GAMEPLAY!!!! While part one is somewhat limited in terms of this, part two improves on this significantly. I have never played a game where the combat feels to grounded and raw. Violent, yes; but an integral part of the story that it is trying to tell.
    I could write an entire essay about this masterpiece, but I want to go and play again on new game plus; survivor. What I will say is this: this game will not be for everyone. What don I recommend? Go into this game with an open mind. Rid yourself of all expectations. PLAY IN A DARK ROOM (for horror purposes).

    I was really disappointed at the end. I know they wanna leave it in a mystery. But the fact that they just left it giving us no knowledge of what happens to her is just crazy to me. But I loved the gameplay, it was amazing.
    But I hated the fact that we barely played with ellie and it seemed like this was an Abby game.

    The Last of Us 2 is hardcore trauma p0rn where cishet characters and racial minorities die horribly or randomly, often traumatizing the hell out of queer characters who end up surviving. Nobody wanted this. It's all shock value. It's especially insulting how the game came out during Pride Month and also Father's Day weekend in some countries.

    Just finished it after 3 days ,my soul was stolen tonight,the beginning of the game is kinda slow but after the 4-5th hour it kicks you in the teeth ,the gameplay is 100 better than the first with many new additions ,story is unexpected,music great as usual- for me this is better even than red dead redemption 2

    This sequel stands alone as a high quality, excellently structured game! Just as challenging as the first. Wish Joel was in more of the game. That being said i am still going to love hours and hours of gameplay!

I don't mind playing for Abby even if a lot of players hate it but that ending rly? Its not the worst game I played but most expansive that I play and became such thrash in second part. I watched Joel’s daughter die in his arms in The Last of Us and loved the relationship that grew between him and Ellie. I saw him grow as a person and while many of us didn’t necessarily agree with his decision at the end of The Last of Us, we understood it because he couldn’t see another daughter (figure) die. I would have accepted his death and Ellie becoming the main character, I have no issues with her sexuality, but to use him as a pawn and sacrifice him in this manner just for shock value was a slap in the face to all fans of the last of us. On top of that, I am forced to play as the character that kills him and then they try to convince me that she isn’t all that bad. Gameplay is amazing, but the storyline that drives the game makes it all not worth playing especially for it to end the way it does (absolute bulls**t). I can’t give this game a zero because of the graphics, world design, gameplay and hard work of the developers are all amazing; But the story was the main reason why people loved this series and now it’s ruined. I avoided all the spoilers and leaks and bought the game but now I regret it. Thank you Neil Drukmann & Anita Sarkeesian for robbing me of $60 and giving me a s**t story in return. This game and Anthem are the most disappointing gaming purchases I’ve ever made and I do not recommend either.… Expand

    Joel gets his head bashed in with golf club in the first hour. That's like killing off Jennifer anistons Rachel in friends season 2 and then replace her with her killer. Like you just don't do that. Graphics are great. Story is terrible and depressing.

    Great graphics, pretty good level design, nothing new on gameplay. For an interactive movie, or a game which relies so heavily on storytelling, Druckmann swung really hard and missed completely. Then you constantly jump back and forth between characters so you don't really form connections with the characters as you switch every couple hours.     A fantastic storytelling mixed with improvement on the first game's gameplay made one of the best games experiences I've ever had!
    And the representativity matters! A strong LGBT female lead is a natural and effective way of doing that!

    The graphics, the level design, character design, GRAPHIC design (there is more than what you think) everything is beautifull and I though DMC and GOW had the best graphics for a PS4 or console game in general BUT this **** is soo special, feels good, lookds good and is kinda fun even though the gameplay is not as polish and milimetric as COD, Overwatch, etc. If you wanna be pleased with marvelous graphics, layout and good looking everything be my guest and play this game.

    THE STORY IS THE PROBLEM, you expect something from a game. If you buy DOOM you wanna feel badass and kill demons moving fast with BIG GUNNS, if you buy dishonored you wanna go stealth or murdered everbody in creative ways. Unless you like to brainlessly spent your money, the process goes by knowing which kind of game you want to play before buying it

    Since the last of us 1 I expected to buy the sequel FOR THE STORY and the story is trash.
    You don't get the context necesary to empathize to some of the main characters.
    Some of the events on the game are pointless, could have been pretended and make the characters to feel really stupid.
    The pacing of the game is horrible, doesn't feels like the events slowly and organically guide to the end but they feel like they wanted the sroty to GO LIKE THIS instead of letting it to unfold itself at a reasonable series of events
    AS STATED BY DRUCKMAN the context will make you understand the reason for it but instead the context given makes you HATE to play it and ends up being unfun
    SOME characters, acts, events, from the first game are disrespected becaus of the dumbass context. If something was gray color on the 1st, will be BLACK AF on this one.

    I wouldn't buy this game if you're comming for the story, so bad that the story is SO trash it eclipse the gameplay and good animations and graphics    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this game. I’ve been looking forward to it for years, much like a lot of other ND fans. I believe that Neil Druckmann was looking to avert expectations and take risks. I don’t think that those risks paid off, because at the center of it- this story is a bleak journey with poor motivations and no real message or heart. The love and theme of parenting in the first game is what made it good- this game doesn’t have anything meaningful to say. It can’t decide on a single message, and that is the worst problem of them all. Many people have argued whether they love or hate playing as Abby. I personally liked it, and I thought that Lev and Yara were great characters that I desperately wish I could have seen more of. The seraphites are so interesting, and both them and the WLF make a lot of sense. Their different ways of living were obviously thought out with extreme care. It’s just a shame that the characters were not treated as well as the environments, tech, gameplay, and sound- which are all fantastic. There are some big pacing issues, with both gameplay and story. Many sequences could have been cut out, and huge, HUGE parts of the story could have been replaced or re-arranged. The timing and location of Joel’s death made it so that flashbacks were dispersed throughout the story in a way that felt disconnected and strange. Despite great performances, it was hard to get really invested or emotional in Joel and Ellie, except for a few key moments. It shouldn’t be hard to invest in them, but the story structure and the heartlessness was fighting.

    The messages of saving the person you love at any cost could have been pushed further. If Joel and Ellie went on a trip to avenge Tommy’s death, that could have allowed these two characters to work out their conflict with what Joel did to save Ellie all those years ago. Joel would have been in-character to tunnel-vision in on revenge, while Ellie would be the one to realize that it was pointless, and it wouldn’t make either of them happier. Perhaps if something then happened to Joel, the story could revolve around Ellie’s guilt and sadness in a more meaningful way. There is much, much more that I can talk about here, but I’ll just cut short and say that there would be many ways to tie in the different factions, Abby, lev and Yara into this game. Countless ways to make them more interesting and relevant to Ellie’s journey. The gameplay adds a lot of new elements to it, that I feel really enhance things. There are some hits and some misses, but boy- the hits are REALLY spectacular. The new enemy types and boss fights (especially the one main one) are more amazing than I could have even imagined. There are many good things to say about the beauty and amazing details of this world. Overall, this game is a bloated, disconnected, meaningless mess. But it sure does look beautiful, and it plays extremely well. I can’t hell but feel like the confidence that Neil Duckmann has had regarding this game must mean that he is an ego-driven writer who needed someone like Bruce Straley to level him out. He’s been a personal hero of mine for years, but he’s lost my faith in him. He told fans to trust naughty dog, but I’ve lost that trust in his writing. I’m not sure how Halley Gross contributed exactly, but she surely didn’t do enough to save the story. I’m extremely sad and disappointed that this wasn’t the masterpiece that I was hoping it would be.    … Expand

    For a game that relies on its story and cutscene heavy hours, it fails to deliver. Poorly written characters, it only has sticks to one overdone subject matter that is not interesting. The gameplay is literally the same as its 7 year old predecessor with cheesable and predictable ai and zombies. The game looks good
