    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is really beautiful, the gameplay is good and enjoyable, but the story is awful, they tried to be George R. R. Martin but in the end they just were David Benioff and D. B. Wiess. Another thing that I hated was that they tried so hard to make us feel empathy for Abby, but that's impossible and when I played with her I only wanted to see her die . The end is the worst part of the game, we did and lost so many thing to get our revenge but in the end we don't have it… Expand

    Everything could be good and match the theme of the first game, but everything goes to waste with its terrible story, recycled gameplay and one of the worst executed endings along with a counterproductive message.

Once the game reaches a fever-pitch with Ellie, they restart the whole game with a new story with horrendously bad characters. They constantly skip past/present/characters and end up with a story that ends up not saying anything at all. I’m happy to see some different types of characters in a AAA title, the graphics were amazing, but this game was a chore to get through, and I can personally say that 95% of The Last of Us 2 was downright bad.    … Expand

The graphics probably aren't best in class, but they're pretty good. The story on the other hand, is a major problem. Every time I get engaged in the story, they start shoving their gay agenda down my throat, and for no apparent reason except pushing the director's ideals in our face. Overall, a decent game. Overall, a step up from the bland gameplay of the first game which relied too much on story, but not enough for the name of naughty dog. Naughty dog used to be synonym with absolute quality under Amy Hennig, but they've fallen so far under Neil Druckmann's vision.… Expand

    I have been a fan since the beginning and unlike a lot of other fans of it I enjoy the sequel. The story makes sense to me because I have read a lot of novels, and I understand the directions they took and why they took them. A lot of people were expecting something generally specific to happen, if that makes sense, and it didn't. So they didn't like it.     I am a hardcore gamer (hardcore!! and old!!!), I've been playing and making walkthrough since ever, I played almost everything and yes I am a fan of naughty dogs #Games, and a hardcore fan of the last of us. YES THE STORY (AT THE END) IS NOT THAT GOOD AND DISAPPOINTING BUT THE GAMEPLAY AND GRAPHICS AND CINEMATICs AND ...ARE JUST SUPER AMAZING!!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am not sure where to begin with this title, but I will say this: TLOU was an amazing, heart-felt, beautifully crafted and written game. Seven years later, this pile gets dumped on us. In an effort to be as fair as I can, the visuals, animations, voice acting, and world are amazingly well done. But...that's not why I wanted to play this game. The gameplay is stale - it does little to iterate or improve on a legacy system (PS3) on the next-generation console (PS4).

    The main characters that I loved so much didn't even seem the same. Joel doesn't act like Joel, Ellie doesn't act like Ellie, and ham-handed new characters that also don't make much sense. The story is shoved down your throat, there is no choice involved, and - lest we call forget - revenge is bad. Unless you're a character named Abby who has cake and eats it too.

    Oh, and you play multiple hours as a ho-hum character that I just couldn't bring myself to give a crap about. The depth of character from the first game is starkly missing.

    Not worth the buy. 3/10 because its sound, acting, and visuals were amazing. Aside from that? Eh, if you're curious, watch a VOD of gameplay on YT or your favorite streaming platform.    … Expand

    I prefer PC gamer, a few years ago i buy PS4 especially fo The Last Of Us - and i really waiting for the part 2, as it turned out - in vain, the 2nd part only spoiled the memories of the original game.

If you just want something new to go through just pick another game.

    P.S. Critic reviews are literal garbage, the only decent thing in this game are graphics, no masterpiece whatsoever, just expectations and hype.
    P.P.S. An update: The game should have been more about the video game part ( zombies and characters we love) not one more kids book life lesson. Repeating myself here most likely, but this is what most hate about this game.    … Expand

The graphics, level desingn, difficulty settings and sound are excellent of course, but that doesn't make the game worth it at all. The political pandering and SJW agenda that is shoe-horned into the game is distracting and completely un-natural and unnecessary. The influence that Anita Sarkeesian has had over Neil Druckman and the studio has ruined their reputation and cannot be forgiven.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've just finished the game. It is an excellent game and it plays really fluently, in terms of game play mechanics. I really liked the refine combat system, especially the dodging and directional dodging. A long, and I bet, awaited feature since the prelude. And the music monumentally outclasses everything below it. It done a great deal with reflecting the right emotion with whatever moment was present in the game. The visuals for a 2013 hardware is incomparable from what I have seen, you can't deny that. I have recently completed the original TLOU game.

    Towards the end of TLOU II and throughout parts of the game, I was simply put, left confused.

    I am not a person to bash on a game heavily. But from what I have played from my experience, to focus on the core characters, and then to veer off to a different set of characters with different lives and intentions doesn't seem to play well with the masses. Very risky move

    When playing as Abby, we are fed the narrative that her life has meaning, is innocent and sweet. And then we are made question Ellie's mission and objective. We can't let part II take away the core characters from the prelude and neglect them, is what I felt was the intention here. I feel that they are neglected in favor for getting a viewpoint from Abby's life. There is no significant breakthrough backstory for Abby. Which I thought was disappointing. She was mundane to play overall. But in the end, were made feel as if all that Ellie has done, is made out to do bad on her journey, fueled by revenge. The compensation for playing as Abby is the empathy you endure as her, but for Ellie it is made out to be a huge task and strenuous. It was evidently confusing to me at first. But these are stark missions both these troubling characters endured on. And for the majority, i'd imagine so too. What I have said so far is a heavily personal on my behalf.

    You always should look on the flip side too, after playing through all of Abby's perspective, maybe Ellie was pushing her luck a bit too much all along, maybe it was meant to be. Who knows. Ellie was always troublesome with the truth. Both were on the same mission and motivation of getting revenge. The longer I go, the more it lingers to me that these new characters introduced in part II, were in a time where Joel and Ellie also happened to exist. You can't really feel for one over the other, when you have new character developments.

    I don't want to get into any stereotypical, racial biases in this game that people discuss. We just got to learn to accept that these are people with their own different beliefs in this game. I have nothing wrong with that. But personally, I truly believe in the ying/yang dynamic, especially with the gender types.

    The developers were very brave to pull such a feat, 7 years of development for this plot. Bold moves set by Naughty Dog. I was just left in a state of confusion. I have nothing inherently bad to say about the story line at all. It's imperative to keep who the core characters are. I might need to replay this game to fully understand the complexities that Part II brings. I want to accept things for what they are. For this game as it stands at the moment, It's going to take a long time...    … Expand

    It is very unfortunate that the last big AAA game on PS4 is as dissapointing as this one, a complete reversal of TLOU where it put a close on PS3 legacy with a bang.

    I don't mind about the story (well i hate it, but i don;t really care enough), but there is nothing new with the gameplay. Even God of War is much better walking simulator than TLOU now.

    Serious save/load/continuity issues. (Useful exploit for speed-runners though.) Molotovs are useless. Dramaturgy issues (during the tutorial I had to control an unknown, androgynous woman for unknown reasons, who had no back story, and it wasn't clear why is she in the game). Graphics are good (excluding winter). Gameplay and exploration is good.

    I honestly don’t understand why people that didn’t even play the game feel the need to post bad reviews about it, it’s kinda sad. Naughty dog totally nailed it with this game, it’s certainly one of the best games I’ve played in years from the gameplay to the way in which the story unfolds.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first game. So much so that my daughter's name is Ellie. The best parts of that game were easily the characters. The story itself is relatively simple, but is made so beautiful with how each event is explored between Joel, Ellie, and everyone else involved. The gameplay was fine. I liked it more than Uncharted because I had grown tired of climbing building after building in videogames. The visuals have become dated, but the cinematic aspects of the game make it a masterpiece in my eyes. The sequel on the other hand... is not.

    The Last of Us 2 improved in many ways from it's predecessor. The gameplay is rock solid - building on the foundations of the first whilst not being an over-complicated mess. Visuals are top-notch for the PS4. The setting & cinematics bring you in like no other narrative driven game. But the major issues lie with the story and the characters. Almost a 180 from the original.

    I don't agree that characters make decisions that don't line up with what was established in the first game. The stakes have changed and I feel like they handled the situations as we can expect. I think the story has very solid plot points that would've been much better if told in a different order. Meeting Abby and then watching her immediately kill Joel was gut-wrenching. And it could've been great storytelling, if they never tried to make us care for her character - but they spend half the game trying to make you like her. While playing as Abby I found myself purposely dying out of spite for her character. I believe a better approach would've been to start the game off as Abby with her father (not dissimilar to Kingdom Hearts II's opening) so that we can better understand this characters actions. Also, it would've been better for Tommy/Dina dying in the opening with Joel & Ellie out for revenge, and later Joel dying in the theater.

    Overall I like the story they wrote, but a little more time in the writer's room would've done this game wonders.    … Expand

Abby should not be a playable character the fact that she is is almost as dumb as drinking bleach. They kill Joel and Jesse like they were random characters. Try to build emotion for killing the people that killed Joel even though non of us give single **** about them. Let Abby live after she kills Jesse and somehow doesn’t kill tommy just shot him in the head(makes sense). I wish they never made sequel ruined my favorite game franchise.     In a world where subjectivism is acceptable, perfect scores on the extremes are not in this context. Even if one attempts to overlook how the plot is build up, gameplay wise there are long stretches of this game that feel untouched compared to the first title. The puzzles are too simplistic and serve no purpose other than to slow you down.

    I tried at least to hold on to gameplay and even in that I was disappointed. For me it gets a 3 based on some sparse thrilling events with great animations and environment but everything else is unfortunately poorly executed. In a game that was designed around linear narrative, it was hard for me not to look at this as a mediocre experience.    … Expand

    Fallout 76 is a more interesting and engaging game. Naughty dog succeeded in the impossible task of one-uping Bethesda in making a horrible game and spitting in the face of the fans and players.

Naughty Dog improved every aspect of the first game to some unreal levels, and if grim dramas are your cup of tea, this is a game for years to come.

    There is definitely wokeness to the story, but its presented in a tasteful and unforced manner, really, and it largely gets lost in everything else, it's a huge game that has logical places for all its elements. It absolutely doesn't not dilute the overall impression TLOU2 makes. As of controversial Abby, she is a great character in her own right, and unlike the neckbeards would have you believe, she isn't transgender.

    Do yourself a favour and play TLOU2, it's worth every minute.    … Expand

    Cons:
    - By "the same gameplay," I do mean the same. Absolutely no innovations were made beyond turning the "counter" mechanic from the original into a "dodge" instead
    - The story is unoriginal. The plot is a tired, dime a dozen revenge story you've heard a thousand times already
    - Characters are inconsistent. Several high-stakes events happen because characters make stupid decisions they never would make realistically. Each character flips from competent to incompetent in a bipolar fashion.
    - NPCs are forgettable. In most cases, when a named NPC died, I (and all of the other characters) had difficulty truly caring
    - The story uses subverting expectations as a huge crutch, to the point where I could usually expect what "unexpected" event would happen instead. One subversion was used on *3 separate occasions*
    - Awful pacing. To make up an example (not a spoiler), lets say you killed a bad character shortly after learning their name and realizing they're in your way. The game would then, 6 hours later, give you a flashback showing you why that character was actually good, to try and make you feel bad.

    Overall, I feel that The Last of Us is a 4/10. It has good graphics and classic TLOU gameplay, but not much else. I would not recommend this game.    … Expand

If you ever played the first Last Of Us and fell in love with the story and characters, then it’s best to steer away from this game and act as if it never came into existence. Graphics And visuals were amazing, but do we not expect that from Naughty dog already? We all expected the graphics to be stunning. Gameplay wasn’t anything groundbreaking. Still picks up the same mechanics from the first one just a bit more refined. This too was also expected from Naughty Dog.     The father and daughter relationship and their grit and intelligence got them through the dangers of the world. They were almost inseparable.

    Last of Us 2 decides to throw all of everything I just stated.

    I waited seven years for this.
    Whatever you call this.

    Only thing that was good was the graphics.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seven years I waited for this sequel, with really (way to much) high hopes and anxious. I loved the first game, it was amazing and for my twelve-year-old self; mind-blowing. But suddenly I get a sequel where not only they kill the favorite character -which they used in the trailers knowing the amazing reactions they would have-, any type of character development and growth was lost within the first two hours into the game. Am I mad? Not anymore. Disappointed? Hell yes.

    Joel's character, an 'old man' that in the first game could recognize an ambush anywhere and never trusted anyone to give any type of information that could kill him, suddenly is al friendly with someone HE SAVED (not the other way around). And when everyone starts to look skeptical after he said his name; he just stood there? Waiting for them to react instead of doing something? No, that's not the same Joel from the first game.

    I won't talk about all the LGBTQ community and SJW thing because I don't care about that, I really don't. Ellie is homosexual? Okay, that's fine. Levi was a trans character? Cool. I really don't have a problem with that, so I'm not going to rant about it.

    But it pisses me off that this game tried to make me feel sorry for Abby's character, when in reality, all I wanted to do was kill her. I wanted her dead as soon as she attacked Joel, even when I didn't know what he did to her. If you kill my favorite character, and make me play half of the game chasing this woman (with an unrealistic body that tried to "represent all women"), and then suddenly I'm playing as her; I will let her die many times in the gameplay, and still want her really dead at the end. She has no purposes more than revenge her father's death, and suddenly she has pity for a woman and her trans brother (which again, I really don't mind him being trans). Everything is just a mess, nobody feels sorry for her character and her past.

    Not to mention the messed up timeline. The players bought the game hoping to play not only with Ellie, but to see the relationship of her and Joel growing even after he lied about the Fireflies. And what did we get? Some poor flashbacks that only makes you even more mad with his death, the worst one being the last one. That's it? They talk about "trying to forgive him" and next day he is dead? Nah, man, that's crappy.

    The ending was just so... unnecessary. Why would I let her go? Why would I ever spare her after everything Ellie had to go through in the game? That's just crap. I did not kill every person that was in the room when Abby killed Joel, only to forgive THE ONLY CHARACTER Ellie wanted dead. Let's remember that she also almost killed Tommy, and that she was about to kill Dina without giving a flying damn that she was pregnant. The player spent 27 hours of gameplay and cutscenes, just to "Go. Just take him". If this game was about revenge, let me tell you; Neil Druckmann clearly failed.
    I only gave this game a 2/10 because of the amazing graphics that had me in love with the visual. And the gameplay, the weapons and their upgrades were just excellent. It really sucks that they decided to ruin the storyline; this game would have been a masterpiece (as a lot of critics reviews said, not the users tho).    … Expand
