The game is beautiful, artificial intelligence is very well done, the environment is dynamic and each match can be finished in many different ways. In a gaming environment it is very good. The story leaves you on the edge of the seat, but there is a moment in the story that represents almost 8 hours of gameplay that feels forced. It had a merciful ending and, in my opinion, it is not as memorable as the first game, but it is still an unforgettable experience and, like all works, is always flawed. What I didn't like was that they delved a lot into the antagonist's story and moved away from the main focus, which was Ellie's revenge. Abby's character feels forced and Joel's death was predictable. My score as a frequent player of naughty dog ​​games is 97. Some things were not for a post-apocalyptic world like that of the last of us.… Expand

    Not a bad game, not a masterpiece.
    Stealth, level design, audio, and graphics are incredible.
    Too much downplay between actual gameplay without any character development. Story is flashback fest. maybe if the scenes were placed chronologically, it could've told a decent story.
    Story is disappointing. But there is lots of good in this.

Making Joel dumbber and getting him killed 2 hours into the game just to pander to a certain audience is ridiculous and straight up disrespectful to one of the beloved and main characters. It makes no sense, considering how Joel's character was in part 1. All the revenge killing and violence that we endure for 25 hours, just to let Abby go in the end is stupid. I'm not even that angry, just disappointed that I waited 7 years for this. Graphics are definitely one of the best features of this game and improvement to the game play is noticeable but not ground breaking. Besides that the game is a huge disappointment. My advice would be to save your money and watch a playthrough on YouTube.… Expand

Many of the fans that are bombing the game have a weird toxic And loyalty to ‘one’ of its characters. that loyalty is blinding them to the message of the game. It’s a amazing experience, it’s very long, but that means that it’s thorough with its themes and    I don’t know why this is getting reviewed bombed.

    Vastly disappointed with the games story and character direction. There are just too many annoying and mishandled aspects of the overall story that ruined the game for me. Anyone who actually is invested in the story would agree. Don't create plot holes and sub par story just to push an agenda. Games have had similar themes, similar characters, and were overall better because that wasn't the focal point. Just because you don’t get the ending you want does not mean the game was bad Not everything is supposed to have a “happy ending” and that’s true about life. Yet many of you are crying and complaining about the fact that Abby didn’t die because it didn’t justify your need for vengeance.

    I personally think the writing was incredible. There were times were I was happy, there were times were I was sad, there were times were I was angry, there were times were I laughed and and a joke lightened the tone of the game. To say that the writing was bad clearly shows that the fandom is selfish and doesn’t understand the complexities of life.

    The game is set in a world where there is no rules but survival. Abby believed she was justified for killing Joel because he killed her father and essentially ruined humanity because there is no vaccine. Was it right for Abby to obsess and track her fathers killer for all these years? Probably not and even Owen wants her to give up on this hatred. She could’ve lived a happier life with her friends still living, But in the end she succumbs to the cycle of revenge and so will Ellie.

    To me that is great writing because we as the audience see a story from two point of views and see how each character develops differently. The moral of the story is that revenge is never the answer because it leads to both sides getting hurt. Trust me I wanted Abby dead as much as everyone else but imagine if the first Last of Us was played as Abby, we would want revenge on Joel too so people need to have an open mind and realize that not everything is gonna have a happy ending so grow up and stop complaining.    … Expand

Gráficamente es un deleite, a nivel técnico un gran mejoramiento respecto a su predecesora. La historia me tiene súper enganchado. No hay más que decir, es un JUEGAZO. Se merece una mejor puntuación.

I felt like i was being tortured and was forced to play through half of the game with a character i absolutely despised . To see ellie decide not to avenge joel and let his murderer go after everything they have been through and after witnessing him being brually beaten to death and spit on was a really infuriating slap in the face and made the journey she had been on seem pointless, especially since she had killed mostly everyone except the actual person responsible for joel's death. the gameplay was ok but it doesnt really make up for how bad the plot and most of the characters are. This game is a dumpster fire and if i had not bought it digitally it LITERALLY would have been dumpster fire right now. im 100% sure the critics who are giving this game 80's and 90's are paid actors… Expand

    Greatest game I've ever played. It's not for everyone, so if you're the type that just likes a story where you run up kill everything and then live happily ever after you won't enjoy it as much. It's real and shows real emotion and consequences.

Let me begin this review by saying yes, I understand parts of the story can be controversial to others and can be disappointing with the choices in which naughty dog decided to go with TLOU part 2. But let me say that even with the ideal story changes, this game was one of the greatest PlayStation exclusive games that ive played since the original TLOU.
    Let me start by saying that the story was shocking and compelling, and for me at times very questionable. Specifically with playing as the character Abby, for with not understanding who she is or what he purpose compromises of, it throws a curve in our feelings towards what the idea of the story will be like. But with this addition of characters, it begins to show not just one side, but both sides of the story. Since this game half way will cut to Abbys beginning of the story when Ellie enters Seattle. It shows the struggle of both these characters attempt to survive through the deserted streets of Washington Seattle, in which two groups are at war over control of seattle, being the Washington Liberation Front known as the wolves , and the seraphites known as the scars. One group is a broken down branch of fireflies that have taken a new name for themselves, being more militarized with weaponry, vehicles, and Dogs. While the other is a cult like villagers that believe in the beliefs of Their prophets, and the ways of the new world and removing the old world, they take advantage of the environment, using guns and mainly bows and arrows. Ellie begins a quest to hunt down Abby due to her actions in the beginning of the game. Throughout this story, you will watch as drastic actions are taken in order to survive in which will change the characters forever.
    For game play, the gun play, stealth, and crafting have been taken to a whole new level with crafting, being an easier and better way to advance your weaponry with you no longer needing to craft holsters but instead finding them within search areas that can lead you to finding guns and training manuals. Manuals are used in this game as a form of learning new skill branches in which could help you craft items more efficiently, enhance your stealth abilities, upgrade your weapon sway and so on. upgrading weaponry now visually shows on weaponry in which now finding parts to upgrade are mainly focused towards only needing to upgrade weapons. Crafting items has been taken to a whole new level with being able to create new items that can help you efficiently in the battlefield against both the infected and human enemies, advancing melee weapons now work in a more efficient way by removing shiv doors in which now gives you a chance to upgrade your weapons more often since hand to hand combat has become a more implemented part of combat. With the removal of shiv doors, this now allows players to be able to enter loot rooms without the use of shivs, but instead will have to find a hidden way into the room. In my opinion I think this is a better addition to the game since while shivs are still an existing tool in this game, are now more used to help with quick stealth kills and to get out of grabs by infected enemies.
    Within the beginning levels of this game, it allows you to explore areas within the downtown seattle area in order to find Ellies beginning items. in which you are able to open a map and find hidden areas that contain loot within question mark areas on your map, in which you will be able to find hits that can lead you to new areas. This is the only time that TLOU uses an open map system, this part can be related to what Metro Exodus does with its maps, while it may be not exactly open world, it does use the same idea of searching areas to find tools and and equipment to help you in your adventure.
    Combat in TLOU is fully insane, gun fights feel a lot more intense and smooth with cross hairs staying the same as the first game. Body damage to enemies has become more visible with head shots now showing a lot more damage, such as holes in heads and blown off jaws. hand to hand combat becomes violent when items are thrown in the mix, especially since with there being more melee weapons to pick up, it also allows you to upgrade every melee weapon you find.
    In the end, I highly think that while many dislike this game due to its story and for some reason its ideal of lesbians being apart of a game being a problem, the game on its own is phenomenal, its game play gets fully overlooked and frankly, if you're someone who doesn't finish a game and writes a review about the game being bad, your'e not just ignorant, but your'e also making yourself look stupid. Finish something before you judge it, because it can contain a lot of potential ideas for future games.    … Expand

    The brigading of this title is unfortunate, because it really is a masterpiece. If you enjoyed the first one, there is no reason you wouldn’t enjoy this one. Definitely highly recommend.

    I have played through the whole game

    Abby tortured and executed joel for pleasure, and never felt sorry. How can you side with a character like that?

    How to fix it:

    Let joel be a bigger part of the start of the game.

    Let joel be held at gun point in to the room.

    Dont torture joel, just shot him in the leg and let him have a final word to elle, before he get shot in the head.

    In abbys story find a way to make abby show she have
    sympathy for elle some how (Elle did kill all her friends, so i dont know how)

    Elles last flashback when trying to kill Abby :
    Elle: "If you ever got killed i will still go on a killing spree, to kill the people responsible"
    Joel: "I dont want you to do that, i dont deserve that, after how i lied to you and killed the fireflies" or something like that.

Graphics are fenomenal, mechanics are the same from the first game but evolved (which is exactly what they should've done), accessibility is to applaud. Technically it's an amazing game. But then we get to the story.
    You don't play The Last of Us for the graphics or the mechanics, you play The Last of Us for the story. And Naughty Dog f*cked up royally story-wise.

    The first game is the best game I've ever played in my life. The narrative took me with amazing characters into a rollercoaster of emotions. However, instead of a rollercoaster, Part II just goes downwards, it's only negative feelings, there's never good feelings (except for the Joel and Ellie's flashbacks). In contrast we have the first game that had cute moments like Ellie stealing the toy for Sam; earned love demonstrations like the "everyone f*cking except for you" scene and how Joel hugs Ellie and calls her little girl; scary moments and funny moments thoughout the game; the fear of losing Joel when he falls onto the rebar and the relief when you see he's actually alive. Part II doesn't have that essence. It tries to shove us shallow relationships between characters, but we don't have a connection to actually care about any of them. And the game doesn't do a good job on building it. Part II just shows revenge and a bloodbath, killing (almost) everyone on your way. It's just negative emotions thoughout the game.

    Then we get to everyone's first or second favorite character's death, which happens in the first 2 hours of the game. Come on ND, you are smarter than that. The reason this game became one of the best of all time was the Joel-Ellie relationship. And instead of building over the amazing foundation you set with the first game, you decide to scrap all that and kill the main character in one of the dumbest ways possible for him. Both Joel and Tommy are survivors, they would never be so careless with people they don't know.
    But if that's not enough, we are also forced to play as his murderer! And not for a little while, you spend almost half of the game playing as Abby so that you can understand why she killed Joel. Guess what ND, from the moment she kills my favorite character, she's immediatly unlikeable! I cannot relate to her! I don't care if you try to humanize her, I don't care about her story, I don't want to play with the person who killed my favorite character.

    To make things worse, after killing hundreds of people to get her revenge over Joel and being seconds away from killing Abby, Ellie decides to let her go. So all those people died for nothing. She lost two fingers, Jesse died, Tommy lost an eye, Dina left her, Joel is dead. It was all for nothing.

    Naughty Dog tried to show us how being good or bad guys is just a perspective. Joel was a bad guy for Abby, but her father was a bad guy for Joel. They tried to show us how the path of revenge is a destructive one that only makes you lose things. They tried to show us how, even though we may love a character, he is just a regular guy that can die in the same way any other would in that universe. They went the realistic way. But we were already emotionally invested. For a game that wants to mess with people's emotions, they failed to take that into consideration. Every single penny they make with this game is because of the first one. It's obvious that people wouldn't like to see their favorite character treated with such disrespect.

    The sad thing is there will probably be a Part III. But I'm not even remotely interested. Naughty Dog, the company responsible for creating the best game I've ever played, killed the best game I've ever played. I'll try to take my mind off it and consider the first game a one and done thing.

    The Last of Us 1 left me wanting desperately a sequel. The Last of Us Part II left me wanting desperately to forget there ever was a sequel.    … Expand

    User reviews only speak of Joel's death, of the wet dreams they may have had with the character, it's always the same. But nobody asks: What is beyond this event? Why it happened? He deserved it? What happens next? What will these characters feel about that event?
    Yes, it was horrible that he died, and he had a pathetic death, but it is the cause and effect of the acts of the "crazy man". It was a death that no one expects from the best character ever written. He deserved a better death, but in the reality of this game it is not.

    This game more than entertain us, it destroys us. It leaves us with an existential void that consumes you and kills you.
    It is a crude game, and cruel and it is in every right to be. It's The Last Of Us!

    If you are looking to leave with a good taste in your mouth, go play fortnite or minecraft. They are fast, frantic games, and you don't need to think beyond their mechanics and kill without questioning the lives of others.
    The Last Of Us more than a game, it is an experience. It is Ellie's evolution and the consequence of her actions. Not everything is Joel. That does not mean that he is an excellent character.

    The world is so used to everything being rosy and that everything turns out as they want, that they are blinded by it and do not see what the human being (in this game or in real life) is capable of.

    This game is great! And it does not deserve the injustice of these empty criticisms that for a fact destroy how great this game is.
    Okay, playing like Abby is maddening, maybe boring at times (No one wants to play like the villain) .. (Ah! But wasn't Joel exactly that in the previous game? ... A Villain?). Just think about it a little.

    Leaving Joel's event behind (which sets fanboys on fire), the endgame leaves much to think about.
    What Ellie did can drive anyone crazy. Would you be able to do what she did without losing your sanity?

    My mother taught me that forgiving is the most difficult honest act to perform in the world. But that is what nobody assumes: Assume when we are wrong.
    More than revenge, this game is about forgiveness.
    And so Ellie deserves more and my respects.

    Great game.

    If you are sensitive-minded, don't buy the game. But it is an experience that has to be lived.

    100% recommendable.

    Writing this review I realized all the sensations that the game makes you feel in greater depth. Very nice job to NaughtyDog.

That being said, everything about this game feels shoe horned in. The weed jokes and references throughout, the LGBT characters, the death of Joel and the forced perspective of the antagonist. In the first two hours of gameplay you find two bongs and a growhouse. The bongs are one of the only things you can pick up in the room and serve no purpose in the game. It just feels like a forced attempt at a joke that breaks the emersion.
    Ellie and her girlfriend make sense and I even enjoy their blossoming relationship. However the drawn out makeout session and the awkward sex scene were unnecessary and once again felt forced.
    Joel was a careful and strong survivor. . Yet he is willing to go to a house knowing multiple armed people will be there and that they will know the layout much better than him. This is foolhardy and it like everything else in this game feels like an unfleshed out plot point in an attempt to force the story.
    We as the player are supposed to feel for the antagonist and understand her decisions. Even empathise with her. The opposite becomes the fact. When you're playing her it feel foreign and cringy. She is not a likable person and she should be as on just the events she has a point.
    Lastly, I feel that the story was not well written as a whole. The moral argument can be made for both choices Joel could have made at the end of the first game. He may have sacrificed the entire human race to save one girl. He actively killed people in the process as well. He was not the shining knight he was a man who loved a little girl as his daughter. Tell that story, show that everything is not black and white and as fans we will back you. That doesn't show up here. This story was distracting and broken in a way that left the fans and gamers like myself feeling empty and unfulfilled.    … Expand

The hours I spent finding parts could have easily been cut in half if this game followed any kind of progression logic like the first game. Your ingame partner, whoever it is as its constantly changing between Joel and Dina and whatever other unimportant crew of side characters, is never challenging you as Ellie did in the first game. You don't have to worry about escorting them through the terrain as they brainlessly follow you around, climb and jump and talk mechanically about their past, all the while you'll be wishing you could push them off a ledge for some peace and quiet. An absolute joke compared to the first game where your companion was more than a ladder climbing npc. I haven't even touched upon the biggest oopsie, which is trying to fit two narratives into one title. The constant flipping of perspective will give you backlash and - honestly- I felt pretty disrespected throughout the entire thing. By the end credits, I had a slight sense of what the writers were trying to achieve, but did that warrant an entire game? Couldn't all of that been established in the first 2 hours of game play? How on earth did I just spend 6 ingame days playing as two different characters just to reach a conclusion that could have happened upon their first meeting? Come on, what a joke. The whole game is a joke. At any moment someone will find an easteregg cutscene that explains the story was all a bad dream and Ellie didn't just spend a week chasing the mailman. The only joy this game brought me was finishing it and knowing I never have to play it ever again.… Expand

    This game is an obvious lgbt/progressivist propanda, really a shame that one of the greatest game was turned into political agenda. Characters ruined, plot doesn't make sense. Really hope Sony will rethink it overall policy. Gameplay, graphics and other stuff however is fantastic, not gonna lie.

The gameplay is just like the first and gave me a Metal Gear vibe with all of the stealth. Game will clock you about 35 hours to complete too, only issue is you think its going to end at points but keeps going, which really isn’t an issue. The cast and crew from ND nailed it again. The negative reviews show how much people can be swayed and become sheep to an opinion of an out if context spoiler when the game is just incredible. A lot of tear jerkers and anxiety driven moments will keep to hooked until the end.… Expand

The themes it tries to portray are undone by the fact that a player has no agency in the choices thrust upon you. The writers are the puppet masters and your only option is to dance. And at the end they look to you and ask why did you do this. After playing I felt like the message that was being forced upon me did not coincide with the resolution of the game. Things felt contrived and as a result the game stumbled into a cautionary tale neglecting storytelling for pure shock. I would give this game a 4/10 .... but I also have to factor in outside influences in my score. The trailers were deceptive. They implied that some characters had a larger role. -1

    Been playing the game for about a week now and I'm loving it, it gives me so much anxiety playing it but I usually get anxiety playing horror games. I love the new characters and story and I'll miss the old but if you live by the sword you'll die by the sword and that pain it cause me got me even more invested in the story

    People complaining about the story are ridiculous. Personally I think the story is very good. It continues off of the first well and shows an honest relationship between Ellie and Joel. People don't like knowing the side of the opposition as human, seeing the leads do horrible and terrifying things. I wanted to root for Abby, I did root for her at the end of the game. That fact that Joel save Abby and then Abby killed him while also presenting no conflict is disturbing. SJW in the game didn't bother me, I just wish it didn't feel forced and the writing was better. Ellie knows why Joel died. Ellie states she will find out why they killed him. Ellie admits to Abby she knows why she killed Joel. Abby let Ellie live twice and Ellie tried to kill her again, instead of having some remorse while letting Abby down from the pillars. The purpose of the whole story means nothing. By the way you can't make a vaccine for fungi, at least not with modern medical advancements. If anything they could test her antibodies, or even have her reproduce and then have immunity through birth.     So good!! I don’t know why anyone would vote it so low. I know it’s incredibly gory but I just finished the game, and I felt an overwhelming rush of emotions. I don’t think I’ve ever had any other video game do that to me.

    Just as good as the first one! The story, the gameplay, the visuals: everything was amazing. The twists and ending are incredible. It took about 23 hours to finish for me, and it was definitely worth it. I cannot wait for the third one!

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
