But no matter what you think of the divisive story choices, divisive or not they are just poorly written story choices that negatively display a story which around those story choices this is well written. The gameplay is fluid, the environment and level design is stunning, game mechanics are well executed. But at the end the last of us 2 fails to write Abby’s character well to justify the game time spent playing as her in a game that isnt bad or inconsistent in writing because plot points were divisive, but in a story that tries to be unpredictable and fails with no adequate writing to explain abby's character or actions with very poor writing to explain a few characters fates. In terms of innovation I feel player choice was robbed in comparison to the 1st game. its more like we are forced into situations with this game in which I think we could had benefited to alternate story choice elements on what in Particular Abby or Ellie does. it would had left it so much more of an impactful first playthrough impression. *** Score:6-7/10 game‬***
why a 7. My average calculates it at a 6.5 based on categories of graphics, how smooth / responsive it runs, overall Story and innovations if applicable. In my score substance needed to stand out more than just beauty. I thoroughly enjoy the 1st last of us game. It is one of the masterpieces that was thought provoking in terms of Joels building relationship with Ellie who is your companion for a majority of the game. the world provided an interesting twist on the common tropes of a pandemic and dystopian settings. the second game is thought provoking but there was a good section of the game I felt like I didn't have as much understanding of character motivations or maybe they were just not written clearly or I could not understand it clearly in particular Abby. The fact the story seemed so linear and not taking into account players being able to to make the choices at certain points in the game us the real disappointment I have in this game. Maybe I set my standards too high but I think that could had helped the game a lot in the story department. limiting player choice to a linear set up doesn't work well considering its predecessor.

Don’t believe the cry babies. If you want something that ends good, go and watch some Disney.

Not every story ends perfect. People can die at any moment in this world. Main characters can die, no one is safe. This is what makes this world believable. But this also makes the story so insanely good. Just because the story doesn’t take the path you want makes it a bad story. Big up to

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve waited 7 long years after the the first game and this is what we got. Shame, if the game was gonna be this bad I would of not of wanted it to be made. For anyone who has played the first I beg them not to waste their hard earned money on this especially during a pandemic, if you do you will be disappointed. The only thing I can admit the graphics and gameplay are an improvement over the first but that story is the biggest middle finger to fans of the first game, they don’t care if you got attached to Joel or Tommy and they make you play as some Abby chick that spoiler warning....... Abby does an Andrew Ryan’s to Joel head with a golf club very early in the game and you have to play as her more than Ellie. Ellie speaking of her you have to bring her new boring forced loved interest Dina. The only reason why she’s there to begin with is because SJW’s and the LGBT community have to force us with content we don’t want. Dina is so plain you don’t even worry about her one bit unlike Riley from Left behind, she’s the perfect love for Ellie and their first love is poetic. If anything Maria should of went instead of Dina since Tommy goes to Seattle. You will cringe during the Abby scenes and you will be even more unsatisfied with the ending. Last of us should of only been a one game franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all,I have to state that the game is not really a "0" score game, due to the amazing graphic and not evolution though still intriguing game-play. If I want to give the game a fair score, it probably will be around 7, purposely because of everything else, which is good game by and large.

BUT!! the idea of shoving a horrible political correct story in player's arse just for political correction sake is definitely needed to be terminated, even not just for gaming industry.

Almost all of the plot driving points are just stupid, long time survivors Joel and Tommy are just lost all the cautiousness, lead to Joel's death, Killing spree machine Abby just let a girl who is apparently closed to Joel go,and the ending which everybody hated.

And the so call meaning of the story is butchered so hard, killing is a big part of LoUS, it is in the game mechanic let alone story. People get reward by killing especially in this sequel which we dealing human much more than the original, it is Apocalypse after all. You want to talk about circle of hatred, that is fine, put in the content, shows in emotions, alter some of actions. Not just consistent killing each other with cold blood and all of sudden spare some lives just for haunting them later at last second. They are just not what people will do in that situation.

All in all, garbage story telling and script, have so much potential with changing ideas of integrated LGBT element in games among gamers but failed miserably, and hated it even more. 0/0

To have such a masterpiece in TLOU 1 to be ruined by such horrible storytelling in this sequel is worse than my parents getting divorced as a child. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite what many “fans” of The Last of Us have been posting. It is plainly obvious that the majority of the negative reviews from gamers have been due to either, 1.) Homophobic ideals or 2.) They haven’t played the full game yet or just decided to hop on the band wagon for negativity. The story is amazing, yea it has a few minor flaws in it, but the response to it has been pointless and illogical. The graphics are absolutely stunning and the gameplay is nearly perfect. I have finished the game in its entirety 2 times as of writing this. No, I am not lying about that. I can just say that it is a very well crafted game that is deserving of the title and is a perfect follow up to the first game. Joel may have been killed very early on in the game, but, he also was well aware that after killing all of those Fireflies, people would try and kill him. He was clearly calm in his last few moments of life because he knew it was going to happen sooner or later. People are whining about how Ellie had no problem with killing all of the other people who were in Abby’s group but not Abby. She never intended to kill them, they attempted to fight back while being interrogated and Ellie defended herself. When Ellie finally confronted Abby in the end of the game, she came to the realization that Abby was in many ways just like her. I get that Joel died and I was pissed off about it, but as the game progressed I began to realize that Abby didn’t deserve to die and neither did any of her friends. So before anyone tries to write a negative review for this game, I highly reccomend you read this post in its entirety and for many people, I reccomend you actually play the game or at least finish playing it before you decide to trash talk it. I am glad I was smart enough that I didn’t get anything spoiled for me because unlike many people I chose to steer clear of any third-party info on The Last of Us Part II because I wanted to experience everything myself for the first time. So either, play this game or don’t buy it and stop posting unknowledgable reviews on a game that you have never even played. These developers worked hard to make this game and their work shows. The game is worth every penny in my opinion and I felt like it was nessicarry to post this review because I at least know what is going on and I have also played the game twice and have a better understanding of the story. I hate seeing the negativity towards great games like this because it is unwarranted and honestly it damages people’s reputation. So if you have been wanting to play this game and/or you aren’t sure if you should buy it or not, I can say that from my experience, it is worth the money. I can’t force anyone into buying it but I can let people know that I have enough time played on this game to make a fair review for this fantastic game. *Again* don’t look at every negative review and believe it, because, more often than not, the person reviewing the game has either not finished it or doesn’t even own the game to begin with. Gunplay is fun as usual especially when wiping out the super whiny enemies. The same scavenging mechanics are present in this one as well, all in all gameplay is still solid. There are many wipe open areas with not much to do especially in the Seattle area which makes it dull for a good chunk of the game.Unfortunately the story in this game is absolutely awful.Do not trust the critics on this one, more than half of them were paid off by Naughty Dog. Aside from the performances by the main cast it does not save this wretched unwanted tale of unrelenting agenda pushing.Neil Druckman has created a compromised mess of a game.By choosing to go the Rian Johnson route by subverting expectations, ignoring playtesters and fans, taking advice from questionable sources, and forcing employees to go through rigorous crunch periods to push out this unrealistic and laughable phantasmagoria he conjured in his head. For a story driven game the writing is stunningly poor to the point where you wonder why noone questioned the choices Druckman has fatefully made.I will refrain from spoilers but everybody knows at this point the dreadful scene that appears very early on in the game. Why naughty dog? Why this way? Why do it so poorly? It was a heartrending scene in not the way they intended. To me it felt like Druckman was personally spitting on whoever enjoyed the first game because he felt like they enjoyed it for reasons he didnt agree with.As i trudged through this bitter clunky story i noticed the Ellie we love didnt even develop as a character, instead becoming static midway through. Why you ask? Because in order to fully insult fans of this game the plot needs to be sacrificed. The controversy surrounding the LGBTQ aspects in this game is of no consequence, its great to see inclusion and perspectives from people on all sides of the spectrum but poor poor misguided Druckman used this as a tool and a crutch.Hammering these character traits down so hard the game seems to be more concerned with the way the characters are perceived and persecuted rather than focusing on an actual story. Making such a spectacle out of Ellie and Abby's sexual preferences takes the opposite effect.Rather than presenting these traits of the characters as something positive and organic,it is used in a very ugly way by punishing the characters for being gay. You can look at it as being realistic but the fact is it is not done in a well executed way.Supporting characters have bad goofy dialogue, poor decisions are made to fit the plot, and a very unfitting and pitiful end for a certain character leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The first game was brutal of course but it had a big big loving heart and by the end you understood whyJoel loves Ellie so much and why he had to do what he had to do to save her. In this game there is no heart, just ugly depressing situations that leave you with no hope and no sense of catharsis by the time the credits roll by.I finished this game feeling burnt out. With whats been going on in the world in 2020 we needed a win whether it be big or small, but this game is one big giant loss.Shame on Mr.Druckman for foisting his vile view of the world onto us. We dont need this game. Personally the story ended for me once Joel made his promise to Ellie after saving her. This sequel is just a representation of a delusional fantasy from a very sad man.Go back and play the first one and dont buy into this nonsense. The shill media overpraises this game because either the reviews are paid for or they are afraid of losing their precious review copies.Save your time and money! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Less of a review and more of an explanation of the story from my perspective. I don’t understand people’s hate for this game, I finally finished the story yesterday, it is truly a story that needs to be played out to its end. The Last of us Part II plays out the repercussions of the first game in a telling and challenging way through the unveiling of people connected to those affected by the choices of our characters in the first game, leaving us with a moral dilemma that examines what it truly means to seek revenge over forgiveness.

This is most prevelant between the characters of
Ellie and Abby as a parallel to the larger factions of the wolves and the Seraphites. In many ways Abby’s story mirrors Joel’s in the first game, where he was a cold, emotionally suppressed smuggler trying to hide away from his daughters death and finding redemption in Ellie. Abby is a cold, revenge fueled girl who has channeled her rage into hunting down Joel, physically and emotionally preparing herself for years on and to face Joel for murdering the fireflies including her own father. And she pursues this at the behest and sacrifice of her own friends. Joel’s redemption began not with saving Ellie from the fireflies but with finally telling Ellie the truth. His gruff, violent smuggler was no more, Ellie’s relationship broke down his walls on the first story arc and he is no longer as suspicious, as quick to act violently or as trusting of his own instincts because his actions against the fireflies have left him seeking moral redemption. This allows him to fall right into Abbys trap, because in saving her from the infected he is playing out this emotional redemption. The last of us part 2 challenges us by showing the repurcussions of a tribalistic society, brilliantly executing a parallel between the Seraphites, the Wolves, the Jackonson-ites and the Fireflies. Particularly the conflict between the Seraphites and the Wolves. Throughout the game as Ellie pursues Abby and Abby seeks redemption for what she has done to Joel we see a stark parallel between the warring tribes that have a stake in the fallen city of Seattle. Each faction believes they are doing something righteous for their cause, and each faction is sacrificing something immeasurable to achieve it. This rings true with Ellie as she is willingly blinded by her pursuit of revenge, whilst suppressing what is revealed to be her intimate knowledge of the gravity of what Joel did to deserve his death. It is not until she loses everyone entirely and faces Joel for what he was, the closest thing she had to a father, doing what he did best, that she realises the gravity of her actions and let’s Abby go. Abby grapples with the guilt of killing Joel throughout the story, justifying her actions through letting Ellie and Tommy survive. It is not until she realise they have gone onto seek revenge themselves that she again pursues revenge. Having saved Lev and lost all allegences to her tribal societies Abbys morality has finally adjusted, she believes in the light once again and when finally faced with Ellie in the theatre she again spares her life. Knowing that her redemption is worthless if she chooses to kill Ellie. The penultimate struggle of the story is in the burning down of the island with the war raging between the wolves and the Seraphites, destruction begets destruction, revenge breeds revenge. Ellie lets go of her promise at a future with Dina for one last pursuit of revenge, leaving Jackson and seeking out Abby one last time. It is in this final conflict, where Ellie cuts down Abby and realises that Abby is uninterested in this battle between, already broken by her capture by rattlers, that Ellie faces her true conflict. Her pursuit of Abby was not one of revenge of Joel’s death, but one of unresolved trauma and pain caused by Joel’s actions. She wasn’t ready to forgive Joel when he died, that was a process still unfolding, he took away her life having meaning in her eyes, he killed people to save her and never cared to think if that’s what she would want. what fuelled her anger was that Abby took away the opportunity to forgive him, to repair that damage, for her Abby represented the part of her that wished Joel had never done what he did. She can relate to her intimately, and ultimately lets her go, and in doing so let’s go of her hatred for Joel.

In the closing scene when Ellie plays the guitar with her two missing fingers, the song is broken and worn as her hands are incapable of playing as they once did. She sets aside the guitar and walks away. Her resentment for Joel is no more, she understands why he did what he did, she accepts it and she has let go the piece of herself that held hatred for him.

This ending leaves Abby to finally redeem herself in rejoining the fireflies and making peace with her choices and Ellie to make her life have the meaning she always wished it had since she was bitten.

This game is entitled The Last Of Us: Part II, implying its the second part of The Last Of Us, the 2013 game that tells the story of Joel and Ellie. Now, Ellie is in the box art, in every promotional material, its the first face you see when you launch the game. I bought this to play as Ellie, with Ellie, to suffer with her, to laugh with her, to have my heart pumping with her. Halfway through the game, my moments with her are taken away from me, and I'm forced to play with a random girl. This is not why I bought this game. In no moment, during these years of promotion it was said half the game I would be forced to play with a character I have no interest in. That's the why I'm giving it a two. Its a dishonest game. There are some sequences in this game that rival box office films and enormously entertaining

Bottom line, this game is a masterpiece. I would give this a 10, but I feel the combat mechanics could have been improved and enhanced in this installment. I would have liked to have seen a new melee combat style for Ellie, considering her/size strength clearly did not match many of her foes in a 1:1 fight, which broke the suspension of disbelief. There are also a few overly drawn-out exposition and backstory sequences that could have been a bit tighter and slow the game's pace.

If you are looking for a story-driven game with complex characters and scenarios, and don't mind a lot of covert, strategic combat, this is the game for you. If you want a standard shoot em up, 1-dimensional, mindless shooter, stick to COD or the thousands of other games that fit that genre. Most importantly, if you are homophobic, anti-semitic, or generally hate anything that challenges your hegemonic masculinity, particularly on who should be a protagonist and who shouldn't, you should probably sit this one out, bruh. Your fragile ego is gonna break.

They killed the franchise, still i can't believe what they've done.
I've almost cryed for the frustation on the bad ending, on the disrespect for the characters, ruinning the best story of the past decade.
Trating Joel like he was a little innocent kid, and killing him in one of the worst deaths ever on any videogame. the story is fuc*ing s**** and isn't TLOU.
Forzing the player to empatize with Abby and then forcing to kill Ellie, this is not right, and is unnacceptable
The gameplay was very good anyway, the new mechanics added fine to the game. we got more exploration zones, some kinda very easy puzzles, and big scenaries. However was a little bit repetitive fighting against humans, or undeads, again and again

Conclusion: Don't waste 60 euros on this, please...

I can only imagine how mentally damaged Naughty Dog studios is now, having endured that abortion of a so called "Game".

And not to mention him forcing his much unneeded "Holocaust" fable into the game. The entire ordeal comes off as a sickly forced waking nightmare that you cannot escape, something more fitting for a book of H.P Lovecraft's insane settings, it's just missing the eldritch monsters or maybe Neil Druckmans sex scene with the Transexual Abby is very much the Eldritch abomination just in modern day artform.

Thank you Naughty Dog and Neil for hopefully ending your careers.

That said, this sequel gets easier to play once you accept that unlike the first game this story is not about Joel and Ellie, but rather about how violence and revenge affects the people living in this post-apocalyptic world. I loved the difficulty. I played on survivor and it is challenging but rewarding. survivor difficulty is in my opinion the best way to play the game. I also loved the gameplay (fights are long, brutal, and satisfying), the sound, the soundtrack (especially the new use of synths during the fight scenarios), and the graphics. However, at the end of the day this game is story focused. For me, the story feels wrong and I wasn't sure how to feel about it until I finished the game. I respect Naughty Dog for what they tried to achieve and even though you feel some of the moments in the end I don't think they were able to do the same with the main characters. There are still some beautiful story moments involving Ellie and Joel reminiscent of the first game but the bad storytelling stuff is just extremely hard to ignore.

Naturally, seeing the news of the sequel and the trailer of the work afterwards, I couldn't help but get excited. I waited for release with high expectations. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an honest review from someone who has actually bought and played the game, not someone who just watched a play through on YouTube. I also avoided all leaks prior to playing. Review:

Absolutely awful. Extremely disappointed in the way the story played out and how poorly it was written. I've been patiently waiting for seven years for this game and WAS a massive fan of the first. If you are debating on purchasing this game...just don't. Where to begin?

First of all, Joel dies. Okay fine. People die. However, as others point out it seems like someone writing the story just wanted to rush to get rid of him.

As we've learned from TLOU1, Joel is very untrusting of strangers. In TLOU2 he is also wanted by many people. So why is he giving his name and location to strangers? Very poor writing. I found the way he died to be in very poor taste as well. Abby. Trans? Okay. I'm fine with that. Being forced to play as her(?) after killing Joel? Why? What exactly is this suppose to convey to the player? That she had her(?) own motivation for Joel's murder? I don't care about Abby or her reasons. Yes, it's an post apocalyptic wasteland where people die every day, but why force us to play as some irrelevant character? Why have Joel killed by said irrelevant character? Imagine if this same formula was used in your favorite movie/TV show. Would Breaking Bad be as great if Walt died in the second season and the protagonist got replaced by some random character we weren't emotionally invested in? How about if Frodo gets killed by an Orc and then we have to spend a full movie with a POV of said Orc? This formula doesn't work. Joel dying towards the end by saving Ellie and telling her how he views her as a daughter wouldn't have left such a sour taste in my mouth. Or anything close to that. What really gets me is I remember seeing trailers of TLOU2 where you play as Joel further on in the story. It feels like the same scenes and game play were replaced by other characters in the actual game, so it's like Naughty Dog lied. Also, the directors self insert into the game where he has sex with Abby just felt weird.

Yes, you read that correctly. The director of TLOU2 made a character of himself in the game and had sex with the trans character. Again, why?

Playing on, the game just feels boring, repetitive, and pointless. I guess it's cool if your someone who's in 30 straight hours of torture porn. Ellie eventually tracks down Abby and kills her out of revenge? No. She let's Abby go. Because killing another human being is wrong...or something like that. Ya know, despite the fact she did not hesitate to kill hundreds of people since the start of her journey in TLOU1.

Without a doubt, the story in this game is so bad I honestly don't want to play the first one anymore. It's like a close friend who got on drugs and then stole $60 from you. You don't want to go back to that friendship despite the good times you guys had.

For all the "journalists" and "critics" saying people hate this game because it has LGBT+ characters in it. No. I'm glad companies are being inclusive to other groups, but the story in this game is just bad. To quote Neil Druckmann, director of TLOU2, "The Last of Us Part 2 isn't for everyone. I'd rather have people passionately hate it than just be like, 'Yeah, it was okay.'"

Welp, you got your wish buddy. What a massive disappointment. So much wasted potential to what could have been the best game of 2020, maybe even the decade. This game was a huge let down. I will never purchase another Naughty Dog game.
