    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay where do I start, rating this game a 4/10 is sad. It truly breaks my heart to rate this game a 4/10, but it truly deserves this rating. This franchise is legendary and it's sad that their second installment of the game is a big disappointment. This game technically is amazing, it has jaw-dropping graphics, incredible animations, awesome cut scenes, great fighting mechanics, and acting. But where this game goes wrong is it's story. Since this is a story driven game, you'd expect the game to have an amazing story just like it's predecessor, The Last Of Us 1. Unfortunately though, the story of The Last of Us Pt 2 incredibly fails expectations. The first installment of this franchise was iconic and it was written perfectly to show human emotion and hope. The second installment falls into a terrible cliche of revenge. The revenge cliche starts with the death of Joel, he is tortured and killed by Abby right in front of Ellie. As a fan of the game, I was incredibly mad at how they killed Joel! The way they killed Joel was an amazing example of lazy writing, Joel would have never ever put himself into that situation in the Mansion. Joel would never be stupid enough to say his real name in front of random people he's never met. I mean for Christ's sake, Joel didn't even trust Ellie in the beginning of The Last of Us 1, why would he trust random strangers? it's the apocalypse! It's clear that Joel would have never put himself in that situation, so why did he? Lazy writing!! So after this event, Ellie goes on a killing rampage to find Abby. Ellie kills all of Abby's friends but never finds her, so Tommy suggests just leaving and letting it go. She agrees until Abby comes out of nowhere and kills Jesse, she then threatens Tommy's life at gunpoint. Abby points the gun at Ellie, the scene cuts and then we as gamers are forced to play as Abby for 10 hours to know her backstory. Naughty Dog, we don't care about Abby! The point of the game was to kill her, so why would you think it'd be a great idea to make us play as the woman who mutilated Joel, for ten hours? This ten hour gameplay with Abby was so boring, and I resented every second I had to play with her. That isn't the worst part though, Naughty Dog makes you beat the living **** out of Ellie! I really don't understand how this game was approved! Anyways, Abby lets Ellie live again, Ellie trys to forget about what Abby did, but she cant, so she once again goes to find her, and once she finds her, (after killing multiple innocent people) she lets her go! Hahahahahaha this game was just pointless! There was no meaning, just death! This game had a horrible intro, horrible plot, horrible character arch, and horrible ending! They made us sit and wait for seven years for this poorly wrote game! What's crazier though is how Naughty Dog is responding to criticism. They are calling every low rating a bot, or a misogynistic person, or a transphobic person, or a homophobic person. Wake up Naughty Dog! We are none of the above! I support LGBTQ+, and I'm not misogynistic! When woman are put in lead roles I don't mind, it's the same as if they were a male. Ellie is one of my favorite characters in all of gaming, same with Clementine from Telltales's The Walking Dead! We're not mad about Ellie's sexuality, we're mad about how Joel died, and how poorly written the story is.… Expand

The problem I have about this game is that “great stories are never executed the way it supposed to be” this basically means that this game is not fan service and that’s exactly what’s wrong with this game. You play video games to escape reality. You read the Bible to work on your character. Please don’t put out another game like this

How in anybody's mind would think anyone would want to play HALF the game as Joel's KILLER!? And not only that, they took out the amazing multiplayer because they wanted to "Focus on the story?" Not only is the story a slog to get through (except playing as Ellie) we don't relate to Abby or her **** unfunny ass friends which all seem likey **** people mind you. They're just seems to be no real honest direction here and it really shows in the end product. There is no desire to play through the game again. This was suppose to be ELLIE'S story, not some two sided story mess we got. Although the locations are great, (even when playing as Abby, the island, the skyscraper were cool locations) it just has bad pacing. Abby is about to shoot Ellie then for like 12 HOURS we have to sit down and try to relate to Joel's killer? For what? Why do I care about Abby? I think her design is cool the way she slams down on her enemies with a hefty "thump" but she feels poorly implemented in the story and to try and make us the players who journeyed with Joel and Ellie in the first game sympathize with her? It just does not work, and it does not. Man I can't believe they cut multiplayer for a mediocre story.… Expand

    The game is really a masterpiece once you finished it, you will only realize it once you FINISH it and FEEL the very end of the game. It made me realize that "Damn, every negative comments about this game is not true" when I finished it myself.

    SPOILERS CONTENT

    Abby got what she deserves, there is no need for further bloodshed if you really are a good person.
    The fact that Ellie sees Joel in a flashback while she's killing Abby means that she CANNOT BRING JOEL BACK and that Ellie's had enough of deaths already, these bad user reviewers did not understand that part. I mean PETER PARKER in SPIDER-MAN 3 let Sandman go didn't he?
    What the **** all these people that they want to always kill almost everyone that's messed with them.
    Naughtydog simply tells you to be a real person in this game. Yes it is ****ed up for what happened to Joel but if Abby is the main protagonist on the first one, for sure you will be hunting Joel too, wouldn't you? All I can say is these negative user reviewers are just weak in the heart, they always want the protagonist to be invulnerable to deaths, well Ellie is the real protagonist since the first one.    … Expand

    I honestly liked this game for the first 10 hours. Then we have to play as the Antagonist for 10 hours. what was really wrong with this story was the ending, which by the way is garbage.

I wish I could have a little bit more time playing with Abby and start liking her before she kills Joel. That would make a much bigger impact on me as a player and I wouldn't hate Abby as much as I did. I still love the time I had playing her caracter. Thr gameplay is perfect, not too far from the first onr with a couple of amelioration too make it spectacular. The graphics are amazing, especially the caracters designs. The journey was still great for me and I truly hope that one day I could revisit the world and the caracters of The Last of Us. The last thing that I found disturbing is the development of joel's personality. When you think about what he did during the forst game, all the traps and enemies he killed or escaped from,he sould have see Abby and her froup coming and not fall into her trap, like in the first game when the bandits wants to take is card by faking an injury. So long Joel and Ellie, I'll keep a good memories of those game and just hope to be abble to see more of that world someday in the future.… Expand

    The last of us part 2 is about hate, just as Neil Druckman said, and for you to understand what this hate is all about you have to complete the game, put yourself in Ellie's shoes, how far would you go? There is no hero in this story. Congratulations to Naughty Dog for being able to express how mankind would survive the apocalypse in the most realistic way.

    I couldn't even finish the game, and I tried so hard to. I usually don't completely quit games without giving it a ton of more chances, but this sequel just didn't click for me.

    The pros are obvious—fantastic mocapping, animations, voice acting, and environment building. I also actually enjoyed the small additions to the combat, including the ability to lie flat on your stomach, craft arrows + bomb arrows, and leave scent trails for the dogs. However, even these pros couldn't get me over the jarring flaws.

    Joel dying is what immediately made me think, "Damn. Maybe I should've listened to the criticisms before I bought this." He dies 30 minutes into the game, and Jesse dies quickly too. NOT good for those who really thought the main protagonist of the first game would play a physical role in the second game. The whole plot of the game also revolves around Ellie chasing after Abby and seeking revenge, but decides against it in the ending, leaving Abby to go free. Unsatisfying and confusing.

    Playing as Abby didn't make me feel sympathy for her. I already hated her for killing Joel, and her backstory was part of such a minuscule detail from the first game that I'm baffled they even decided to focus on it. Abby's route was insanely boring and during that point of the game I quit. Her friends were boring. Her attitude was boring. I couldn't feel sorry for her even as she cried on the floor in front of her dad, who, not to mention, held a blade up to Joel first before he shot him. During the first game, we learned of the deep reasoning behind Joel's selfish behaviors, and we sympathized with him. By showing Abby as an angry murderer before showing her as a fellow human with her own drive and reasonings, it really makes players unable to give her any space to tell her side of the story.

    The characters are out-of-character very frequently. Joel is a molded survivor with the ability to sniff out when something is off. It didn't seem realistic for him to so easily trust Abby and then, in the end, get brutally killed. Ellie is also not the happy-go-lucky girl from the first game. She is moody and apathetic. It didn't feel like I was controlling the same girl.

    The game also seemed to switch its focus onto something completely new instead of what The Last of Us was built on. The story often revolved around human killers and a civil war between the Wolves and the Seraphites instead of the infected and CBI. It felt like the civil war was a bigger part of the plot than the infected.

    The atmosphere just wasn't the same to me either. I can't explain that very well. Maybe it's the lack of Joel. I actually cried during the museum flashback with Ellie and Joel because it was so much like the first game, a striking contrast compared to adult Ellie's adventures. My Listen Mode didn't work, like, at all; could never see the silhouettes of enemies in different rooms. I also didn't like the lack of nail bombs. I've read so many alternatives to this game's plot and it makes me sad to say the majority of them were really better than the canon plot we got. I was really hoping the clips of Abby in the trailers were actually Anna. That might've been a lot more interesting.    … Expand

    The gameplay remains rock solid while story draws you in like any other. Best looking game of this generation period. Can't say when cut scene ends and where gameplay begins. A lengthy game too to boot so value for your money.

    This game is simply amazing! He is able to approach topics about right and wrong in a unique way. This game is not just about killing infected, but about how far you go to get revenge on something, and how you can understand your opponent's side. Without a doubt the best game I have ever played.

The gameplay is solid, the graphics are solid, the score is amazing. We as gamers (mostly) dont give a **** about about the gay stuff, thats fine. WE absolutely HATE Abby, HATE. THAT is why people don't like your game.     I know a lot of people don't really enjoy the game, personally I had a blast with it. I don't think it's amazing story wise but the gameplay was really fun imo! I'd say check it out for yourself if you're up for it.

    At first I thought I would give up on this game....

    After finishing the game I feel absolutely worth the time. Beautiful world, amazing gameplay, complex characters and great stories, almost better in every aspect from part I.

    No matter how angry you feel after first few hours, plz don't rage quit and finish the game. It's totally worth it.

    Just beat the game. What an amazing, complex story from start to finish. Ignore the reviews of the people review bombing because it isn't the first game. It's not meant to be.

    This is my ending and Ik some won’t agree of what I’ll will say Is I liked but ehh here we go (The ending should have went like this imagine Ellie finds Abby she’s hurt from the injury when she stepped in a trap and ending up making her swing to a pointy branch Ellie fights through the groups base killing everyone and letting the prisoners go when Ellie finds her she gets Abby off the postThis is my ending and Ik some won’t agree of what I’ll will say Is I liked but ehh here we go (The ending should have went like this imagine Ellie finds Abby she’s hurt from the injury when she stepped in a trap and ending up making her swing to a pointy branch Ellie fights through the groups base killing everyone and letting the prisoners go when Ellie finds her she gets Abby off the post and lev they walk to the beach lev is unconscious from what happened they get to the boats and they did the same thing like in the game they fight to the death both women exhausted hurt and broken Ellie is drowning Abby and when she sees is Abby smashing Joel’s skull in what happens next is Ellie pushes and pushes down she is angry from what she had just saw and then Abby stops moving Ellie kills her and she drags her body to the shore leaving her lifeless body there dead Ellie leaves on the boat but before she does she puts a gun on lev’s boat she leaves few hours later lev wakes up confused about where Abby is at he turns around to see her body laying there he cries over her wondering what Just happened he digs a grave on the shore after leaves confused on who killed Abby we switch back to Ellie on the farm house finding Dina gone she try’s to play guitar but fails she ends up leaving the farm house and is heading back to Jackson to lay low and try help herself with her PTSD at the same time she finds Dina and JJ there and she begs for forgiveness Dina agrees and they live together Lev is finding the fireflies he does they take him in and he lives there growing and trying to know what happened to Abby - End Tbh I hope ya will read my mind if not it’s fine this is my idea how it could have been also just Joel’s death hurt he didn’t have.     O jogo é incrível, jogabilidade, gráficos, trilha sonora e enredo/história. Tomaram decisões corajosas, o que apenas aumenta o valor da sequência de The Last of Us. Parabéns a todos os envolvidos, uma sequência digna. Maravilhoso!

You get designs that are out of this world. This game looks amazing. Then, the story takes a lot of things from the first game and just disregards it. Joel's character development from the first game gets taken and thrown into the garbage. He make decisions he would have NEVER made in the first game. Its a revenge story that ends in not allowing you to get revenge? The characters feel poorly written compared to the first. If this wasn't a "The Last Of Us" game, maybe it wouldn't have been taken so negatively. The fact is that it IS a 'The Last Of Us" game where a foundation has already been built and the writers smacked their whole audience in the face with this new installment. Take this games graphics and re-write this story because this is something that shouldn't be cannon to the original. Actually, just delete this game and never make a new "The Last Of Us".     This is truly one of the greats. No matter what you have heard, do yourself a favor and pick this up and try it for yourself. You'll most likely be glad you did. This is one of the most beautiful and thought provoking games of the last decade.

    On another note, regarding metacritics review bombing of this game, I do not believe any game can truly earn a 0 score, because giving a game a 0    This is truly one of the greats. Porém história vazia, mudam o foco a cada hr q passa, qrem dar enfase a Abby, uma assassina covarde, fazia parte de grupos de gurrilha, mostram 15 min dela e de seu pai, e acham q isso fara o jogador a crer em sua razão, e matar um ser humano daquela forma. Um mundo gigante sem zumbis, zumbis só coexistem praticamente em locais fechados e escuros. Acabaram com a franquia, com personagens magníficos para apostar em 12 q n dao 1 em carisma iu simpatia, acabaram com a Ellie, do nada a transformaram em assassina louca e do nada tbm a deixaram ser boa de novo. N sabeiam o q queriam, fizeram por fazer, correndo, estragaram tudo. N sei como a crítica elogia tamanha merda, e a historia vale mais q td, pq é metade de jogo só em cutscenes ou dialogos, e foi uma merda… Expand

La verdad me parece un juego bastante bueno, no una obra maestra pero es muy bueno, y eso se ve en la muerte de Joel (aunque se merecía una mejor muerte), porque si moría Dina simplemente íbamos a apoyar a Ellie en su viaje, pero con la muerte de Joel es distinto ya que el juego nos transmite esa rabia y tristeza que siente Ellie al verlo morir, y es por eso que es tan bueno, porque nos transmite las emociones que siente la protagonista, lo cual muy pocos juegos logran. Otro punto fuerte del juego es su jugabilidad, la cuál es muy similar al primer juego pero con algunos detalles como el botón para esquivar que lo hace todo más dinámico y rápido, también tiene personajes bastante buenos como Dina y jessie los cuales aunque son un poco esteriotipados , tienen sus puntos fuertes… Expand

Y eso es lo que dicen todos, en mi opinión no es un mal juego debido a qué tiene momentos impactantes y conmovedores que te hacen reflexionar sobre si las acciones que hiciste anteriormente eran justas o no, y el final del juego te deja entender un mensaje que es el siguiente: "Ellie busco venganza y lo perdió todo" Es un final triste la verdad, pero eso no quiere decir que el juego sea malo, de lo contrario es una obra maestra. No entiendo el hecho de que hayan personas criticando el juego solo por la muerte de un personaje, aunque sí, es verdad que Joel fue el protagonista del primer juego y que hombre, creas que no que te maten a un personaje con el cuál has jugado la anterior entrega y que muera en las primeras horas de la segunda entrega a manos de una mujer musculosa y teniendo una muerte ridícula es un poco bruh, y creo que este es el motivo del hate que esta recibiendo el þitulo ya que muchas personas lo están juzgando sin apenas haberlo jugado ellos mismos y solo por esta parte de la historia me parece un poco estúpido. The infected got me with multiple jump scares. Being able to lay flat and other new perks were fun to use. Loved the explosive arrows. The story is unfortunately terrible. The trailers and even description of the game is deceiving. Due to bad storytelling and pacing issues I spent half the time feeling miserable and angry. The other half I enjoyed was due to gameplay and only when I played as Ellie. A good portion of the game is spent being the person who killed Joel. I do no care for Abby and after playing as her for half the game I still hate her character. Her story was pointless and was just to bring us back to where we were at 10 hours earlier in the story. I was super excited to play this for years and super disappointed when it ended. I will take the good parts to memory (ie Joel and Ellie flashback at the museum, gameplay etc) but forget the rest and NEVER play this game ever again. Thanks for making 2020 more unbearable than it already has been.… Expand

El juego esta muy bueno en cuanto a calidad gráfica la historia llena de sed de venganza y a la vez de arrepentimiento la escena donde matas a nora refleja perfectamente la sed de sangre de ellie la brutalidad con la que la asesina y sobretodo su cara llena de odio me pone la piel China es mi parte favorita del juego pero no todo es color de rosa no me gustó para nada el final me pongo a pensar realmente valió la pena?? Todo el sacrificio de crusar medio país y encontrar a los asesinos de Joel para que al final después de matar a todos los involucrados y dejar libre a la culpable de todo a parte de matar a joel matar a prácticamente toda la familia y amigos de Ellie y que aparte le haya quitado dos dedos hubiera sido mejor si hubiera matado a abby intentaron hacer que empatizaramos con abby pero vamos maro a el protagonista del primer juego y eso a los fans no les gustó nada hubiera quedado mejor si hubiera matado a abby… Expand

    El juego es impresionante en cuanto a narración y ambiente. El mapa es enorme y las mecánicas mejoran al 100% las del primer juego. Los personajes son manejados de forma magistral y tienen una química natural, el escenario y éstos personajes se sienten vivos y son creíbles al 100%.

    if a game really deserved the 95 that its getting, there wouldn't be such a unanimous reaction from pretty much everyone streaming this game on twitch. Like you can literally see everyone struggling to care enough about the game to continue playing to the end. Everyone is just tired.

    I don't know what I was talking about when I gave this a good review. It was a drudge to the end, the story was phoned in, and I never picked it back up after completing it. Anticipating a masterpiece, was not nearly that. Ghost of Tsushima was leaps and bounds better as a 2020 game.

Me parece horrible que mucho odien el juego porque muestre la relación homosexual de eli, o porque mata a joel, entiendo un poco el punto de que no les guste la historia de ABBY, pero no es mala ni nada, todos en el mundo de the las of us son una mierda de gente, es logico que no termine todo bien para la protagonista, y el final me pareció de lo mejor, eli rompió el ciclo de venganza, y termino perdiendo todo lo que amaba por seguir su venganza ciega, no le pongo un 10 simplemente porque le falto un poquito de carácter a abby, pero solo un poquito… Expand

For the story, it was definitely not what I expected (for the record I tried to know the least about the game before going in). I didn’t expect Joel to die like that, but I felt it. I felt it deeply hurt. I understood why Ellie wanted revenge at the beginning. It didn’t feel right that she brutally murdered Joel and got away with it. Progressively, I saw the point of view of Abby. Then, I wasn’t so sure if I wanted revenge. When I arrived at the part where Abby saves the Seraphites children and goes back to the aquarium to see her dead friends that Ellie had killed. I asked myself if Ellie was even the ‘’good’’ one, The violence at one point was just meaningless. I kept asking myself why is this still going? Why is the WLF burning down civilian villages? For what? I didn’t know which would ‘’win’’ the fight in the theater. I didn’t know which one I wanted to win to be frank. All I knew is I wanted it to stop. I want Ellie to have her lesbian ranch paradise. I want Abby to find her people and to be happy with Lev. I didn’t care that Ellie had travelled a long way for that. I didn’t care they would’ve lost a lot for nothing. Just stop it. Right there, I had understood the moral of the story. 10/10 Best storyline in a while.

    This game is art ... I absolutely love it. The story is captivating, the fact that I have to play the villain is shocking and new. This game is dirty, frustrating and great. I like it a lot. In my opinion this is a masterpiece and gives the player a new and never seen gameplay. Of course it is a challenge to cope with all the violence, but as said before - it is art and I love it.
