    This game is a miserable experience from start to finish (and some will try to argue that is its selling point). The problem is it never produces and actual point to the underlying theme of the "cycle of violence" during its long bloated trudge through a clumsy story filled with insufferable characters.

    Formulaic and didn't address the minor issues with the first game. The clicker encounters are drawn out and the "puzzles" are too simplistic. The story is not engaging at all, which was the biggest strength of part 1. Huge disappointment.

    Garbage story. I can't begin to describe to you the amount of crap the writers have spewed into this game. The development is fine, save for some technical bugs (which shouldn't have made it into a game which has spent so many years in development, but that's beside the point). Horrible story in a story based game. Classic move for modern writers and idiotic pandering shillers.

    Joel shouldn’t be tortured and killed that way. And we shouldn’t have to play with the person who did it. ( I don’t really care about the collateral damage he did - just felt like watching Austin Powers when they turned to show the friends and family of the bad guy who was killed by Austin. The point is, who cares about the bad guys? **** them. Same to Abby and her dad. And I had to play half the game with that **** only to see she going away alive in the end. **** it. Someone was even sadistic to make Ellie lose fingers and made you try to play the guitar at the end. Seriously. Bad story. Totally disappointed.    … Expand

    First and foremost - this game is not the continuation of Last of Us story. This is nothing but a fan-fiction. Amateurish, vain, talentless, perverted. It is as bad, as latest Terminator movie.

    The story is based only on a revenge. There is no character development, no emotional connection. Remember how long it took Ellie to build a relationship with Joel in first game? How long it took    First and foremost - this game is not the continuation of Last of Us story. This is nothing but a fan-fiction. Amateurish, vain, talentless, perverted. It is as bad, as latest Terminator movie.

    The story is based only on a revenge. There is no character development, no emotional connection. Remember how long it took Ellie to build a relationship with Joel in first game? How long it took Joel to overcome the loss of his daughter, and to adopt Ellie? Well screw you! Now there is girl, you kissed the day before the game starts, the next day you’re making out and all in love. Also, authors use this logic for the whole game - here we take something away from, and you should be angry. This is a stupid 80s action movie, but not fun at all.

    Gameplay is literally the same as original Last of Us. No new mechanics, no unique encounters, you either slowly walk and loot, or run and shoot. Looting is boring - you can only interact with 1 or 2 objects on scene. Shooting has no feedback at all. You don’t feel satisfied after you’ve managed to make a good shot. And don’t even mention stealth - I thought in 2020 players deserve something more interesting than basic arenas with covers and objects throwing.

    What about famous animations? Have anyone seen any? Choppy, sluggish and absolutely unimpressive. RDR 2 feels more alive than these puppets.

    Visuals are impressive. Impressive how bad they look. RDR2 looked MUCH better than this blurred mess. The very first scene of the game shows you a town, where dozens of people with only 4 different faces and clothes! And it is not action based scene like in a first game, where you don’t have time to notice this - no, you walk slowly and notice everything.

    This garbage deserves nothing but a zero, and I really want writers of this game, those who actually made decision, to understand what an abomination they’ve created, and never do this crap again.    … Expand

    Save yourself the heartbreak and don’t start this game. Garbage story, but the dumpster fire doesn’t start until you’re in pretty deep. Being forced to play as Abby (the antagonist) for 10-15 hours is beyond dumb. Zero stakes. Zero empathy. Apparently, zero understanding of the basic tenets of storytelling. Despite my undying love for TLoU#1, this is a DNF for me.

    This game is a travesty. An abomination. The game has no story if you're honest about it. Just a ridiculous plot strung along to shove unlikeable characters down your throat. Story and its masterfully paced telling was what made the first game the magic that it was!

    Joel dies in the very beginning of the game and he did not die sacrificing himself but died because of, completely unlike his character, trusting a bunch of guys and giving his identity up. To put this into perspective, Joel survived 30 years in the post-infection world where nobody can be trusted easily. If you remember the scene from TLOU1 where he sniffs out an ambush while driving and when Ellie asks him how he knew, he told her he knew because "he has been on both sides." Neither Joel nor Tommy were idiots and just tell a bunch of strangers who they really are! Sigh.

    Ellie is dead (emotionally and metaphorically). Yup, the character you loved from the first game who gave hope in the bleak setting is gone. I had seen most of the leaks as they were unavoidable but what I had apparently missed and lead to a MASSIVE disappointment for me was the fact that YOU DON'T EVEN GET TO KILL ABBY! Yeah, that's right. Because of some "revenge bad" logic which Ellie arrives at after killing hundreds of disposable people throughout the game. Wow, that's some enlightenment alright!

    You love Joel and you don't even get to avenge his death. The morons who came up with this, ahem, "story" need to be fired and banned from ever producing any story driven media ever.    … Expand

The bond between Elie and Joel is what makes TLOU franchise unique. When that story fails to deliver in TLOU part 2, then nothing makes this game standout to other games alike, such as uncharted franchise. Ultimately I wanted to give this a 10 on two principles, most importantly I think this will be looked back on as one of the most important games to be released and may even mark the start of a new trend in story telling in games and maybe even other media and secondly because the people giving this 0 need to go play superman N64.

    That being said there a couple of things that bugged me so 9/ 9.5

    Getting a few things out of the way first, visually its probably just dethroned GOW and HZD for prettiest game this console cycle, right up till the beach scene at the end where they must have taken their foot of the peddle because them textures and depth of field fall off a literal cliff.

    You wont find a game with better writing or understanding of how to set a scene, its cinematic quality in both standards and that speaks to how far games have come as a medium, you could take the gameplay out and this would have been a top notch movie.

    Problems, why yes I have some minor gripes. Jumping is bizzare, I get its meant to be realistic but Lev monkeys his way around so why cant I jump more then half a foot without looking like I havent got off the couch for a while. The UI is still isnt very intuitive, often when things arent going your way you need to react quickly and navigating that menu just doesnt feel natural, if its designed to stress me out further then well done. That being said I didnt look into the control settings so maybe there is something in there.
    The medical supply quest also felt a little unrewarding, I understand why it needs to be there but blah it probably could have been something else.

    Finally the elephant in the room, I am going to ignore the small minded people who are hung up on the LGBT issue and move right on to the two pronged story, this is the first game I can think of that removes the notion of Good vs Evil and puts emotional weight into everything that has happened to that point and even more on whats happens for remainder of the game. The "enemy" suddenly become fully fleshed out characters with their own lives and purpose and you dont get a choice, personally I love it. The world isnt black and white so why should all games be.

    I understand if you dont like that in your games but its not exactly like Naughty Dog hides any of this, the opening minutes of the very first game has someone making the exact same decision so when your response to "Not liking a story" is to give a game 0. It blows my mind, its so childish that it doesn't surprise me the story doesn't appeal to you but honestly its just disappointing.

    There's no downplaying what Naughty Dog has achieved on a technical level. The graphics and gameplay are absolutely stunning and incredible. The customization on the way you want to play your playthrough is far ahead of anything Naughty Dog has put out before.

What’s worse is that it felt as if they were so adamant in pushing their political views that they felt it was justified enough to bury the entire framework of the original games story under the rug.
