    game shoves an annoying "empowered woman" agenda down your throat the entire time. Like we get it. You're progressive naughty dog. Cool graphics are the only saving grace for this snore fest. Imagine a movie, but you have to watch them walking everywhere in between scenes and listen to the small talk.

    From a gameplay/graphics perspective TLOU2 is unrivaled. That being said the story pulls no punches and will leave a lot of people upset. This will not be a game that makes you happy and a lot of people seem to be labeling shocking events plot holes because they didn't like what happened. Play the game for yourself even if you don't like it I believe to undeniable be an experience toFrom a gameplay/graphics perspective TLOU2 is unrivaled. The story chooses to be profound and complicated instead of satisfying. I didn't like the ending Ellie recieved as she just walked away,with no girlfriend and no plans for the future. The finale is the worst. Ellie kills countless enemies in revenge even a pregnant woman to avenge Joel's death and then when she actually is about to kill Abby by drowning her she lets her leave because it is only at that point she has a realisation. The player is left with the an unsatisfying finale and a feeling of emptiness.At the end I felt like I had wasted all the time that I had spent playing it becuase it was not satisfying wheras in the The Last of Us I was satsfied that their journey had come to a fitting end and the bond that Joel and Ellie had developed was amazing.,… Expand

And a useless jump You’re still sneaking around doing stealth kills which gets repetitive. But the gameplay isn’t terrible just hasn’t changed “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” I give gameplay a 7/10
    Graphics are absolutely stunning beautiful on a 4K TV or monitor truly taking advantage out of the PS4 Pro
    Graphics are a 9/10 Now the story is where it really hurts the game it is beyond a slap to the players face for the game to force us to play as Joel’s killer and to feel sympathy for her though out her chapters. And for Elle go to on a quest of revenge to immediately let the killer if Joel loose at the end of the game I wanted Abby to be killed so badly for all the pain she caused Elle. I will never understand why naughty dog wanted us to feel sympathetic for a character we did not want to in the beginning Story 4/10    … Expand

Joel’s death should have happened in the first game imho, but it really sets up the tone for the second part. I’m so glad that Naughty Dog did this. Plot wise it is absolutely necessary. Graphics is great. It loads so fast even on my original PS4. Soundtrack is awesome: battle
    music especially. Enemies are smart and very difficult. Puzzles are creative and fun. I don’t see any filler content at all. Even optional routes contain unique enemies, notes (that you better be reading) and loot. And if some of you developers reading that: I’m buying an acoustic guitar after 15 years of not playing.    … Expand

    the last of us 2 is probably one of the most beautiful games that exist so far and it amazes me how much more they could get out of the ps4.

    the gameplay of the last of us 2 feels like the first part, only much more mobile and expanded. very good and fun. the biggest weakness, which also worsens the whole game. The game tries to make you feel bad permanently with many things. You play a large part as the villain, which would not be so bad if the person had at least a little bit of charisma or wasn't just interested in me wishing her an agonizing death.
    You hurt and sometimes kill as villain important and endearing characters that you couldn't prevent and that's another thing that makes the game worse. You hardly ever play important moments in the game yourself! Sometimes you just hit the hit button or just watch the cutscene for two minutes where the important things happen. without you being allowed to decide anything. Often these are decisions that are exactly the opposite of how you would do it because the game becomes even more unpleasant, which is why it never felt like you were controlling the character of a story game, but of a simple action game. ND wants you to feel bad, so gameplay, story and the universe of tlou had to suffer. Many important characters have died in this part and will never return and the part cannot be rewritten or replaced. The entire world of tlou is almost destroyed with one game. Most of the negative reviews and comments are by people who read spoilers but haven’t played the game. You need to get hands on for you to truly understand it. And as for the gameplay, it’s naughty dog, the gameplay is brutal and grounded. It’s the most smooth a game has ever felt, everything seems to flow like water from character animations, traversal, to combat. This is possibly the best looking console game out, no question.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really loved the story, although there were times when I literally wanted to punch neil druckmann in the face. But that anger subsided on those parts. Overall, I felt like the themes were clear, when seeking revenge, dig two graves. The ending is absolutely heartbreaking and what the did to Joel made me want to hate the game (along with the Abby parts) but as I was progressing I kept getting more involved with Abby and more sympathetic towards her cause. I still wish Ellie killed Abby, however, regardless of how much of a great character I think she is. I still think the original was better and more emotional (except for maybe the ending of 2, because that really got to me) but overall, the second game is more intense and anger driven. And boy do some of the WLF deaths feel good, like Manny, or Nora. But I understand now why Abby did what she did, and I understand why Ellie let her go, they were destroying themselves. They were both just shells of their former selves, engulfed by that fury from the beginning. This is where the game truly shines, in these moments, where in the end, you realize Ellie isnt a little kid anymore and she leaves the guitar to move on from Joel and her past. And the camera pans to a closeup if the guitar to give us that last glimpse of the past we relished in. Ellie is now in a new chapter. If there was a last of us 3, I think it needs to be focused on Ellie slowly becoming Joel, because that is where she is headed. That is the beauty in the story, the subtlety of it all. It leaves the players to interperet, to theorize, to grieve. The game is very reminiscent of the 5 stages of grief.

    Denial: she cant believe Joel is dead and keeps begging him to get up, even after Abby takes that last swing


    Anger: she vows to slowly kill everyone in that room that day


    Bargaining: she begs Abby to take her instead of Tommy Depression: she is torn up inside and depressed at the farm, knowing that she cant leave her past behind her


    Acceptance: she accepts the fact that Joel is dead and theres nothing that can be done and lets Abby go, both of them being just shells of the people they once were, they put an end to the fighting. Ellie then leaves the guitar (her last memory of Joel) in the empty house she came back to. And you can see her leave it all behind.

    She has finally moved on from Joel and is finally ready to become him, and I think we'll see more of Ellie becoming more like Joel if we see a part 3.

    This is an amazing story, it truly captivates the consequences of every character's actions and shows a clear change throughout the story in both Ellie and Abby. Ellie is no longer the loudmouthed fun loving kid from part 1, and no longer the revenge driven woman from part 2. She is Joel.

    Excellent graphics. Better gameplay than in TLoU part I. And i liked stealth this time.
    Some mess with the story, but it was a journey about coming from anger to forgiveness. About loosing all to find inner calm.

    I have no problem with the graphics, gameplay its amazing. But the story is so bad I couldn't get into it I honestly had to grind just to finish it. I stayed away from leaks so I was so shocked the whole game like disbelief how long and boring like a bad fan fiction. How they treated ellie & joel I don't count it as cannon.

It’s not that I don’t like the last of us 2 it’s just like I don’t know I feel the first game had a more realistic story like in the first game the first 3 hours are brutal and you see how time has made Joel who he was and throughout the whole game Ellie breaks him down and he lets her in. In the beginning of the second game you smoke weed, have sex, the death of Joel, and a pregnancy twist from Dina..... like I just feel the first one had more of a grounded story and not like a zombie drama like the walking dead the second one is like. Now I still love the game and seeing Ellie grown up and definitely the death of Joel and even Tommy Made me cry like a baby. I just think that the story is trying to hard to be a drama like those zombie shows and it’s a little off putting after years of playing and crying to the first game.… Expand

    TLOU2 is a notable refinement of every aspect of the first game. The story is an emotional roller coaster, which many cannot stomach (hence the review bombing) but it is a ride worth taking. I’m once again blown away by ND’s masterful use of video game as a medium for artistic beauty.

    If you enjoyed the first games gameplay you will love this as well, not to mention the stellar graphics. While I know alot of people are frustrated with the story I throughly enjoyed it, and I feel the point of The Last of Us is to pull at your heart and this game sure does that. Dont listen to alot of the reveiw bombers and craft your own opinion.

To be frank, I truly believe that, this game requires multiple playthroughs and hours of thought put into the themes of the story before coming to a final review on this game. This is my initial reaction after my first complete playthrough of the story.

    I am going to break down what I think.
    1) The gameplay, visuals, and the world-building in the game is outstanding. Even though the game is mostly linear, it does give the player options to explore and choose their own path in areas like Seattle where you are in charge of a large open map. You can either visit all of them or not. It's up to you. I hope I don't have to explain why TLOU2 might be the best looking game on the PS4. The facial animation and in-game facial moments are really good and it adds to the experience subtly. The enemies are more aware of the surroundings. I played it in the Normal mode and if you can see the enemy, the enemy can see you, just like the real world. The stealth feels satisfying and the dogs bump the difficulty in many areas. I loved it. Even though the gameplay is brutal with its ultra-realistic deaths, I think it fits well withing what they are going for narratively.
    2) The audio and environmental sounds are really well done. Although i would have liked some more of the original tracks from Gustavo especially since this is a 25hr game. But I enjoyed the auditory experience, I just hoped I had more of it.
    3) The UI is similar to TLOU part 1 but the AI is significantly better. See 1
    4) The story is very complex in its own terms. I did have a very powerful emotional reaction at the end of the game. Seeing Abby carry Lev just like Joel carried Ellie at the end of the first game, and Ellie trying to kill Abby brings to the cycle of violence theme, and it hits hard. I was depressed for a whole day at what happened. Do I approve of it?

    Not completely but yes to the most part. I think that the same theme may have been told in a better way. The game is too bleak and depressing and it's not because of the fall of humanity or the need for survival like depicted in the first game but for revenge and hatred. I am not an expert in the human condition but this revenge sometimes didn't bode with me well. But I did understand most of the decisions made by the characters and I think that playing the game the second time will make it even more sense. However, there are major pacing issues especially in the second part when playing as Abby. Meeting Yara and Lev were very nice but how they met after the abrupt cuts, Lev running away on the boat and many hours spent chasing Lev felt like a little drag and could have done better. Of course, the reason for that is to make sure Yara gets killed and to show what violence brings by burning down the island. But the way it was executed was a little bad.
    5) I never thought I will see a resident evil type villain in TLOU2. It just feels so out of place as TLOU was a game grounded in reality and had a hard time believing that in the world of TLOU there can exist such a monster. Of course, I am talking about the one we encounter during Abby's supply run. Overgrown fungal infection over multiple bodies in such a way that their neural connections are linked making it a single organism made of a collective seemed too much for a Cordyceps fungus to manage. Hell! I don't even manage both my hand properly when playing piano and we are talking about 5-10 different bodies being controlled by a parasitic fungus.I wished that the Boss battle never existed.
    6)there are many areas where both infected and humans exist and you can use it against one another. I liked it. I also thought the puzzles are really good. I felt good about myself when solving a couple of them. I loved the idea of safes in the game, it rewarded exploration in a good way.

    The Last of Us 2 is not a perfect game but its a must-play game, according to me. It has a lot of issues but the fact that it made me think for 2 days straight about what happened in the game and its themes proves the fact that it is a thought-provoking game. It does touch on many themes very well. If you are a fan of the first game, I think you won't regret playing the second. Don't expect a time like u played Spiderman. This is TLOU2 its bleak, sad, depressing, and u will be emotionally drained by the end of it. But it's worth it.

    A masterpiece that changes the perspective of video games in gaming history. People who dislike this game... People just want a game that has juicy content and story which is just moving from the protagonist's point of view. They can't just blindly complain about a game. Players should know the moral of the story...Think about the story from the perspective of Abby, please.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is definitely the Last Jedi of video games. It subverted almost every expectation i had for this game. We can all agree the soundtrack and graphics are AMAZING, especially considering this game is running on console, but the story is where everyone is divided. It took me roughly 17 hours to beat and when the credits started to role i felt DISGUSTED! "what game did i just play? What was the point in all of this. Nothing was achieved by anything that i had done on my journey to the end."

    But then i went to bed and thought about it. I thought about it a lot. I was so affected emotionally by how it made me feel i didn't realise how much it got to me. As Neil Druckmann stated, "the first game is about love, this game is about hate". I didn't hate it because it was poorly written, cause its not, i hated it because i wasn't thinking it from every characters perspective.

    When playing the second act of the game as Abby, all i was thinking about was "why in gods green earth am i playing as someone i absolutely loathe AND FOR SO GOD DAMN LONG! What game did i pay for?" i asked myself. But then as her arch went on I understood her head space, it got to the point i even questioned why i loved joel so much to begin with. Context also, last of us one is my favorite game ever, so much so i bought the custom PS4 pro and collectors edition. I could see where Abby is coming from, just as much as i could see where Ellie was coming from. I read a lot of people saying this game has tarnished the legacy of such a beloved character (being Joel), but the way i see it, it made you see the flaws in the people you love. Something a lot of people have a hard time doing even in their own personal lives. This game brought me to a place emotionally no other game has before, which is why i rate it so highly. If you have only seen the leaks without context, i highly recommend you play it as it really can only be defined by the overall journey and the context brought to light because of it.

    And i know most of you haven't played it cause when I beat it, i was one of 0.5% of people who owned the game who had done so. You trying to tell me 36k people make up 0.5% of the game??? im gonna hit F to doubt.

    I didn't give it a 10/10 because of how misleading the marketing was, and not for the reasons you think. I was so not onboard playing as Abby cause i did not get myself into the head space to do so. If it even slightly alluded to the fact in the games marketing that id be playing as someone else for almost a full half of the game (without any narrative context obviously) i would have enjoyed that portion of the experience a lot more.

    This game is BOLD, and begs the question of what defines right and wrong. Both characters are protagonists and Both are antagonists in their own right. I don't think I've ever seen such perfect form of story telling, as well as such well written characters. You will not like this game if you refuse to accept people who you adore have done **** things for their own self interests, and that people you hate have good reason to feel and do the things they do, and vise versa.    … Expand

    I believe that this game is really great, and that it doesn't deserve the reviews it's getting. It conveyed the message that it was trying to convey through it's storytelling, and i couldn't go to sleep out of anticipation to play the game the next game.

But it took me a while to internalize it and think about the story as a whole. Yes the killing of a main character sucks, but this isn’t the first game to do that. The LGBTQ aspects of the game DO NOT bother me whatsoever because it doesn’t make it the main focus of the game. There is no doubt that everything but the story is amazing. Crafting is familiar, weapon upgrading is familiar, the visuals are amazing, voice and motion capture is amazing, combat is way way better. Open level design, etc. Do I think Ellie should’ve killed Abby? I really wanted her to. It would’ve finally given her closure and justice. But where would that have gotten her in the end? She still would’ve ended up going back to a home without Dina and JJ.

    As much as Ellie hates Abby for killing Joel, what Ellie says to Joel the night before he dies “I don’t think I can ever forgive you for that, but I would like to try.” Also kind of ties into the final fight with Abby. She can never forgive Abby for killing Joel (even though she had every reason to) but she’d like to try forgive because of what Joel did to Ellie. She was on the verge of leaving Joel for good because of the lies he told her. Overall, it’s not a terrible game, it’s not an amazing game, I would be categorized it between good and great. It’s definitely not as good as the 1st game. I also don’t think it really lives to the 7 year hype. Again, this game will polarize the fans, but I think everyone needs to step back and really really understand the story in great length. The game was about HATE, I wasn’t really expecting a happy ending to a game about HATE.    … Expand

    I can't help but feel like most of these reviews must have been written by sexist homophobes. This game is heartwrenching and tense, just like the first one. Maybe this game is a little slower with pacing but I kinda had to feel like there was payoff to the end of the first one. It's a John wick style plot and I absolutely love it

I usually have an open mind and take a realistic approach to everything in my life so I feel that Joel’s death wasn’t shocking in any way. Similar to Glenn dying in the Walking Dead. Gameplay and Graphics are improved and the survival aspect for the game feels realistic. Ammo, Med-kits, and Supplies are all scarce. The story isn’t necessarily bad either like everyone seems to say. Just because the Hero doesn’t save the day doesn’t mean it’s bad storytelling. The major problem is that the plot is scattered everywhere when there’s flashbacks so it feels like a mess. Also, the 2nd half of the game where you play as Abby was drawn out way too much and I couldn’t help but feel no sympathy for her through 90% of her gameplay. It could've been shown with a couple cutscenes rather than 5+ hours of gameplay. The game made me get a soft spot for side characters rather than the main characters. Owen, Dina, Jesse, and Mel are all very well written characters with decent backstories. However, I feel that Ellie didn't have enough time to show more of her character. Abby’s character is the exact opposite. Too much was shown of her backstory and most of it didn’t even add to the story. At most points in this game there’s a cutscene with music where I would believe sounds like an ending but it just keeps going onto more gameplay. If they wanted this game to be a lot better, I think they should’ve made Abby’s gameplay DLC but still keeping her backstory in the main game through cutscenes or clues that Ellie finds out. Now let’s talk about the ending phases. Having to play as Abby in the “final” showdown was really a poor choice. Gamers want to play as Ellie in a fight, not Abby. But the 2nd showdown in Santa Barbara was really fun to play. Reminded me of the showdown in Uncharted 4’s ending. The thing that ruined my “reward” for playing this game is that Ellie didn’t kill Abby, even after she bit her two fingers off. That satisfaction from the fight was ruined and I felt nothing for the revenge tale. The actual ending I find to be very heartwarming though. Ellie is no longer able to play the guitar because of her missing fingers and it gives a flashback to see Joel playing the same song. Every Time I saw Joel in the flashbacks I couldn’t help but shed a tear. The game ends with Ellie setting the guitar down and walking off to hopefully find Dina and her child. A bleak but open ending which describes this whole game. This game isn’t for people who want the hero to win like almost every game does. It’s to tell a story about a dark realistic world in a post-apocalyptic setting. Overall I thought the game was fantastic. Besides some parts from the game that could be cut I have no big problem with it. Everyone seems to go at Neil Druckmann for “bad storytelling” even though he wrote half of Uncharted 4 and wrote all of The Last Of US (2 games that were critically acclaimed). The story telling and writing isn’t bad, it’s just not what the normal person/gamer wanted. If you play this game, remember to have an open mind and see the different perspectives of every character in the story. It's a solid game and I feel that it's worth playing.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
